Pairing: Astarion x F! Chubby! MC

Plot: Through some mysterious and very miraculous events, a young woman finds herself literally stuck with a character from her current video game obsession. You can guess it already. It's an isekai type fanfic. Except in this case Astarion is stuck in our modern world.  I was gonna call the MC Tav, but since the actual game character Tav is mentioned I just named her Winnie. 

Content Warnings: Death….sorta, An asshole of a stepdad, MC uses She/Her pronouns, eventual smut and sexual content in future parts. Characters may be Ooc, grammar/spelling mistakes are possible. MC has very low self esteem. Depressed MC.

“Argh I knew something would go wrong with this game!” The female huffed, staring down at her computer. Her eyes scanned over the error message titled ‘Character not found.’ She gritted her teeth in frustration. “God forbid I try mods….” 

The young woman groaned, shutting her laptop and falling back onto the bed. Apparently after finally installing a cheat mod onto Baldur's Gate 3 the game decided to retaliate and locked her out of her save files. She couldn't even create a new character either! The same ‘Character not found’ message seemed to pop up no matter what she did. The girl’s name was Winnie, a college student in her early twenties who was still living at home. Not too long ago Winnie had gotten the game upon release. She'd played it several times since then and even yet was still able to find some hidden secrets she didn't notice the first time. Honestly this game had really helped with her current state. Life had just been dull and miserable. All her friends had moved on and had their own lives now and she really wasn't the best at making new ones. 

She had a dull boring job, did online writing classes and also had to put up with the asshole her mother married. This game had been a godsend for her these past few months. It gave her an escape. A way to be someone else, at least for a little while anyway. 

Not to mention live out her somewhat cringey teenage girl fantasy of dating a walking red flag of a vampire. In this game she felt important. Like she was some badass heroine who was ready to take on any foe.  Not the shy, scared, awkward woman who she saw in the mirror.

Her cat Maddie broke Winnie from her thoughts as she hopped up onto the bed and crawled onto the young woman's chest. Winnie ran her hand over the cat's thick fluffy black fur.  Maddie gave a small mew before purring noisily and gently kneading her claws into Winnie’s chest.

Winnie sighed, scratching the sides of Maddie's face as she was soothed by the feline’s pur. 

“WINNIE! GET YOUR ASS IN HERE!!” A gruff male voice shouted from the other room, causing Maddie to jump and scramble off of Winnie and hide under the bed. 

The brunette haired girl sighed and got up, walking out of the room and cautiously stepping down the hall. 

“Yes, Brian?” Winnie spoke up as she entered the kitchen.  She looked over to see her stepfather stumbling about. Brian was a rather large man with short dark hair and beard. He was well….very unpleasant.

“Where are the goddamn car keys?” He growled out. 

“Dunno, I don't drive.” Winnie said calmly as she leaned up against the wall, “mom probably put them somewhere. Check the coffee table by the recliner.” 

Brian stomped off, a tiny tan fluff of a dog following after him.  He grabbed the keys before walking back into the kitchen. 

“I'm going to the store. Keep that stupid cat of yours in your room! It keeps shitting all over the carpet!” 

“I've told you over and over. Maddie only goes in the litter box. It's your dog that keeps making a mess in the house because you don't take him outside when he needs to go.” Winnie rolled her eyes.

“Don't fucking talk back to me! You're lucky your mother lets you stay here, if it was up to me you'd have been kicked out of here a long time ago.”  Brain snapped, making Winnie flinch a little at his tone.  “Now make sure the trash is taken out before I get back.” He said before stomping out the front door and slamming it behind him.  Winnie flinched once again at the loud sound before letting out a sigh and pulling the trash out of the can despite the fact that she distinctly remembered her mother telling Brian to take it out this morning. 

Winnie took out the trash before coming back inside heading back to her room. Her eyes scanned over her laptop as Maddie crawled out from under the bed.  She walked back over and opened the device, logging herself on before attempting to open her game back up.

[Character not found.]

Winnie groaned before filling out a bug report and then putting her computer up. She needed to get ready and go to work anyway.

A few days had passed and nothing seemed to work. Winnie had disabled and deleted all the mods, sent in about a dozen but reports and still nothing. The only thing left she could try now was uninstalling the game and then reinstalling it. 

Winnie sat on the bed waiting patiently for the game to download though she knew it would at least take an hour. She pulled out her cellphone, noticing a text from her mother. The message was informing Winnie that Brian and her mom wouldn't be home until late tonight. At least this meant she'd have plenty of peace and quiet in the meantime. The young woman spread out on her bed, stretching her limbs before slowly closing her eyes, resting lazily.

Time passed as she slowly dozed off…Eventually she was awoken by the sound of beeping? It was some strange noise that she couldn't quite put her finger on. She quickly looked over to her laptop and her eyes widened as she noticed it seemed to be going crazy. Blinking and beeping.

“What the fuck!?” She exclaimed, grasping her computer and frantically clicking the mousepad. 

Then the screen went black before seemingly returning to the home screen. However, everything on the computer was gone save for one shortcut. Baldur's Gate 3.

The game’s shortcut sat in the very center of the computer, practically screaming at Winnie to click on it. She clicked it and the game opened up. 

Everything seemed to go as normal up until the title screen.  Winnie’s eyes widened in shock as she noticed all of the menu options were gone aside from (New Game).  She raised an eyebrow before clicking on the only option available and waiting as the opening cinematic played. Everything continued as it usually did. Winnie created her Tav, a human druid with an urchin background, then proceeded to hop into the game. 

Winnie did a bit of a speed run, moving through the Nautiloid as quickly as she could. She recruited Us, Lae'zel and freed Shadowheart before reaching the helm and crashing the ship.

Upon reaching the ravaged beach was when things began to get strange. 

The game buffered and blinked a bit, skipping the scene where Tav would check themselves out followed by some voiced narration. Tav was kinda just there on the beach. 

“Oh God. The game is glitching….” Winnie whined. She sighed in annoyance before clicking on the ground where she wanted Tav to walk. Winnie REALLY did not feel like uninstalling the game and waiting another hour to try again so she decided she'd play for as long as the game would allow.  Winnie had Tav wander over towards where Shadowheart would normally be laying after crash, only to find an empty space where the half elf should be.  Winnie groaned assuming it was another glitch before continuing on along the beach. While most things were there like the dead bodies and the intellect devourer enemies, Winnie did not see any sign of Shadowheart at all. Not even near the ruins where she'd be if she wasn't rescued by the player.  Winnie decided to quickly go and look for the other characters, sneaking her way past the little brain creatures and moving down the path where Astarion, the elven rogue companion, would be waiting to ambush the player.  He was Winnie’s favorite. She had a soft spot for sassy morally grey characters with tragic backstories. And he was also secretly a vampire to boot which just added to the appeal.  Winnie had her Tav approach the area before she let out a sigh of relief seeing as the vampiric elf was in his starting area shouting for help like normal. At least the game wasn't completely broken.

“Hurry I've got one of those brain things cornered.” Astarion’s dialogue began as soon as Tav got close enough to interact with him.  “There in the grass, you can kill it can't you? Like you killed the others?” 

“Uh….I kinda actually didn't kill any of them…Heheh.” Winnie chuckled before dragging her mouse over the dialogue choices.

Winnie clicked on choice 1 before her Tav walked over to check the tall grass for the intellect devourer that was actually non-existent. 

Instead a wild boar leapt from the grass and made Tav jump in surprise, giving Astarion the perfect opportunity to strike. He pinned the druid to the ground, pressing a dagger to her neck.

“Shhh…Shhh….Not a sound…Not if you want to keep that darling neck of yours.” The vampire practically purred out.  Winnie blushed, a shiver going down her spine. There was a reason she always found herself choosing the elven vampire as her character’s love interest. Initially when she first got the game she felt he came off as a pompous prick (which he is) but damn he was so fucking seductive. It drove Winnie absolutely mad. Not to mention it helped given he had sweet delicious character development later on in his story and actually could be kind of a sweetheart… To the player at least.  

The romance in this game had to be Winnie’s favorite aspect of it. She was very romantically inexperienced to say the least and this just added to what made the game her perfect escape from reality. It made her feel like someone actually liked her. Winnie prepared to select the next dialogue choice when suddenly she noticed they had changed.

She looked up and saw a smirk form on Astarion's lips, his eyes appeared as if he was staring back at Winnie from through the screen. Before she could speak Astarion slit Tav's throat and let them drop onto the ground.

“What. The. Fuck.” The brunette haired female went pale as she stared at her computer screen. Astarion sighed in what sounded like relief?

“Finally, we've done that old song and dance so many times! The novelty has completely worn off.” He stretched out his arms, before wiping his dagger on the ground. “It feels so invigorating to try something new, wouldn't you agree?” 

“Uhh…..What's going on?” Winnie asked aloud. She was shaking a bit in both confusion and a little fear.  Her character was kinda just laying on the ground dead…and Astarion was talking….to her!?

“Oh dear, it seems I've gone and frightened you. Ahaha!” Astarion chuckled before appearing to move closer to the screen, even going so far to place his hand on it…

“Hello darling…”

I've seen you posting about what I think is a DnD campaign, and I'm wondering what software the screenshots are from?

It is a DnD campaign, even if an odd one!!

We use FoundryVTT, which is an absolute godsend. It's a Virtual TableTop (like roll20), with a few differences:

It's single payment. $50, but it goes on sale, and it's very lenient with the license (one person gets it, the whole group can use it to DM as they'd wish! they don't really care)

No subscriptions or extra payments after that. You get the entire software with all of its utilities for that.

It's self-hosted (think like Minecraft servers) but it's easy to set up and it's wonderful since you don't need to worry about storage

It comes with just all sort of functionalities out of the box and it's far much more fleshed out than roll20. There's a lot of integrated TTRPG systems in it already (including 5e, Pf2e, Blades in the Dark, Call of Cthulhu, etc), which update constantly

The software itself is also actively updated and they add more functionalities constantly- It's already VERY good, but they keep expanding it!

A very important one, but it allows modding and has a very active modding community, so if there's a functionality the base software doesn't have, chances are that someone already did it. for example, the healthbar or the turn markers are mods

Honestly the devs are pretty cool too and I appreciate the work they do

For some of the cool functionalities it has that I really use (most of which roll20 doesn't have)

It's just really well optimized and they actively work on optimizing it further with every update!

This one is very important to me, but it allows animations natively, which I use quite a bit for animated tokens. There's people who have done animated spell effects and such too. It supports webm, which are much better than gifs

Overall a LOT of visual customization. You can set lights in the scene with lots of animation, filters, there's a mod to add weather and particle effects, you can have forehead tiles (basically stuff that is over the character), etc.

The sheet and inventory management system is so much better than roll20! you can drag and drop features, classes, spells, all that sort of stuff. Pf2e's module is particularly well done and you can just drag about everything and get a sheet ready in no time

it has a delightful vision system with integrated walls, fog of war and so on (yknow, that thing that roll20 has behind a paywall, but better)

integrated rulers and templates too!

and of course just endless customization with mods

a really nice system for journals, player notes, handouts, etc

fairly specific but you can make both lootable chests and interactive shops for your players with a mod and I LOVE that

I could fawn ALL day about how much I love this software. I ran my campaign in roll20 for two years and the amount of wrestling I had to do with it was infuriating! I really recommend FVTT to pretty much anyone. It can be a bit overwhelming at first since it's a bit harder (given how much functionality it has), but once you get used to it, it's hard to go back to other stuff tbh

Without @orange-peony and @bubble-gumhead I literally would not have completed this. I had a whole different fic outlined but knew I would not be able to do it justice in the amount of time for this fest, despite desperately wanting to write it (I still will, mark my words). Honestly, I very nearly dropped out of this fest because I was sure that I would not be able to create anything worthwhile. But these two helped convince me that I could still write something for my giftee, that it wouldn’t be complete shit, and that I should keep going.

My beta, @m0srael, is a freaking godsend. Mose, I could not have done this without you. I was so worried about this fic, but your editing and suggestions made me believe it was something I could realistically submit. You are, as always, brilliant.

Thank you so much to the mods who were generous with allowing me to put my original idea on pause and start over with something new towards the end (literally a week or two before the deadline!), ensuring that I would be able to submit a completed fic for my giftee. Finally, to @secretartlair. As I said originally, this is not the fic that I had planned on writing for you. (Trust me when I say I will still write that fic! Yep, that's Kotone, as far as I could work with the CAS to make something like her. And she's working as an Entertainer. Oh, what's that, Fuuka below? Yep, that's her, and she's working as an artist for a video game company of some kind.

That National Treasure poster? Blame Kotone. Although a poster for the Da Vinci Code would have been nice... oh, damn, I need to finish that book...

I have a bit of a... how do you call it... DVD commentary-type-thing about when I tried to create her: for one, I was really embarrassed when trying to make the two—honestly, I didn't put much effort into creating Kotone, I just thought a randomized Sim would work as a good base for her. So, I adjusted some of her features, followed the concept artwork that I could find on the Megami Tensei wiki for clothing ideas, and made her a little erratic. All was good.

Then the time came to make Fuuka. My will to create Sims based on Persona 3 just exploded, and I just went like "No, no, please, I don't want to do this anymore!" It didn't help much that the randomized Sims didn't make a great base for her. So, I went to NexusMods (where I got the Persona 3 hair CCs,) and decided to pick up those Kotone and Fuuka Sims that MissPiggeh made.

It did sound like a good idea at the time. I mean, it was nearly a godsend, being out of place with the style I usually make Sims with be damned, but it would have been much so had I followed the CC list that MissPiggeh put in the .zip file. So... yeah. She came out looking wrong—with 'em big 'ol eyes... Honestly, I have played with her being like that for a moment, before deciding, "No, that is wrong. I need to fix those eyes." I know that it is not very good and strikes away from her source material, but I did what I had to do.

I'm sorry, MissPiggeh, considering the "Modification permission" bit on the mod page. Very sorry.

I'm also very sorry for bogging this down with a piece of DVD commentary, playing the "I wrote the book they ignored" role...

Right, so, back to the thing.

Anyways, Makoto decided to give her a visit.

For one, Makoto and Kotone do not get along pretty well. Well, they do somewhat get along, but they do get weird. No, I won't say that they hate each other, just too distant to make any sense. ...Hm, what kind of personal subtext could I put into this?

Speaking of getting along, Fuuka and Makoto do actually get along well.

Don't look at the bottom left. I really hate how Sims looks like that when the "Very Happy" Moodlet is on. It's as if that's the most horrifying thing I've seen, only second behind that Callia Maebey thing.

This is a strange headcanon. Fuuka being a Trekkie? I can see that this is getting more and more interesting and further away from the Persona canon. On the other hand, I thought she looked fairly adorable.

By the way, Makoto's back again.

They're fine together again. Settled their differences? No, they didn't. There are no differences to settle. Just two minds in different alternate universes arguing with each other over who gets to kiss Aigis.

I don't know what Tʜᴇ Vᴏɪᴄᴇs are trying to tell Kotone, but okay.

I decided to let Kotone have a little socialization by putting her in a little pub at Henford. (That is the dumbest, yet most accurate fictional British countryside town I've ever heard.) So, yeah, she got to chat around, make a few connections and prevent a possible midlife crisis or something...

That is the gayest tie I've ever seen. I want one.

By the way, she also went to talk with Henford's probably-mayor (I think? I haven't checked.) She also happened to meet Blake and Yang during their little chat.

What the hell, they do get along pretty well.

I guess great minds do think alike. Are they great minds? I don't know. I think that's how the original quote went.

Back at the house, after Kotone had gone to work, Makoto had come back again. He's a bit angry for some reason, I don't remember if he kicked the bin or not, but at least I managed to figure out what had the game decided to give his orientation.

I think he's gay.

Tag Game for Historical Simblrs! 📖

1. What has been your favorite time period to play in or which one are you most excited for?

Since I’m currently only in the early 1900s (in game), I’ll say which time period I’m looking forward to! It has to be, without a doubt, the 50s-70s. The fashion, the music, the art! It’s all just so- ugh. Y’know? I absolutely can’t wait for the hair and beautiful swing dresses!

2. Do you have a favorite piece of historical cc? (CAS or BB)

Oh god, do I have to pick just one? This is so hard 😭 This may be a little odd, but it could be this dress for toddlers/infants by vintagesimstress. It’s just so easy to pop that on a toddler when there’s so little historical cc for them, and much less for infants! It’s a godsend in my save.

3. Who is your favorite sim currently?

You all haven’t met them yet, but one of Walter and Eva’s children I’ve grown so attached to. They’re the absolute cutest and I really hope I can do their story justice!

4. What is your favorite world?

Glimmerbrook! I love the woods and the river that runs through the tiny, little world. Plus, the aesthetics of the spellcasters is just gorgeous. Close second would have to be Forgotten Hollow, which is a shame because I don’t know if I’ll ever have my historical sims live in either of those worlds. 😓

5. Are you more gameplay or story focused?

Hm, honestly I’m not sure. I try my best to balance out both so I don’t burn myself out, so I’d have to say I’m both!

6. Do you like to play with pets in your historical saves?

I try to, but honestly they’re so annoying to deal with. 😭 I really don’t like Sims 4 pets, which is a shame because I love pets in the previous Sims games. Pets, if I ever incorporate them in the story, will be for story purposes only!! 😅

7. What’s your biggest immersion breaking pet peeve with the game?

NPCs who are dressed in jeans and a tshirt! I am so grateful for the NPC overrides by cowplant-snacks. Am I gonna suffer once long skirts are out of fashion? Yes. But for now I am happy with my lil victorian mailmen strolling around my game 😌

8. What’s your favorite in-game historical item? (CAS or BB)

The entire Vampires gamepack catalog. I use those items for nearly every build for the time period I’m planning in, and they’re all just so pretty. Maybe excluding the coffins.

9. What would you like to see as a new pack or asset to the game?

I’d like more things for children to do! And I don’t mean another activity table. Although Growing Together did help with that, I still struggle with things children and toddlers can actively do. I rely on mods to sometimes send them to rabbithole activities because I just have nothing for them to do once they max out their childhood skills. So yeah! Maybe like, an arcade pack or something?

10. What pack do you think is invaluable as a historical simmer?

Cottage Livings, hands down. In those earlier years, if you don’t want to play as an already richer family, playing as a simple farmer is not only fun but realistic! I have another historical save that I play from time to time just for myself, and my family starts out farming and having chickens and cows and it’s all just so fun!

11. Do you have a favorite mod to enhance historical gameplay?

There’s so many, but I highly recommend the Phone to Notebook Replacement Mod by ayoshi. For some reason, mods that are supposed to make Sims not pull out their phone ever two minutes just don’t work in my game, so this mod just allows them to continue to be obsessed with their phones, they’re just now little notebooks! No time travellers in my game.

12. What’s your ideal family size for playing?

For strictly gameplay, I usually prefer families about 3-4 in size. The Baudelaires will eventually grow to 7 in total, which is a lot of Sims for me, but I’m excited to have the challenge!

13. Do you use poses?

14. Do you use any overrides in your game?

Oh my god, yes. I have so many, from eye overrides to cloud overrides. Also, just the few I’ve listed here, just help so much with immersion! I couldn’t play this game without them.

15. Do you, or did you, play off-the-grid during your game?

I really tried to at first, there are just not a lot of necessities that actually WORK off the grid, cc or otherwise. So I just replaced everything I could with older looking electronics. Although, I really wanted the lighting from the candles. Yes, it’s bad at times, but I like it for some odd reason.

16. What lifespan do you play on?

Long/custom lifespan settings! Since every four days is equal to one year in my game, I tried to reflect that in the lifespans.

17. What inspired you to start playing a historically?

I’m almost positive it was the amazing Pixelnrd. I actually started this blog as a royal simblr! I was scrolling around on Tumblr and found Pixelnrd’s blog and that was that. I’ve always loved history and once I found this challenge, I fell in love with the idea of it!

Thank you so much. Honestly I think having a good ability to interact and a USP helps but the advice I would give is a good head mod.

Streaming is often treated like a monolith but its been so much easier after I started working with my mods more directly.

Of course lets give some serious love to @hesitating-anxious-aliens . Not only are they an amazing partner but also have done so much bts work that really makes the streams so much better. They are a godsend and I couldnt do this without em.

Honestly the legacy this blog has within the fandom is insane, it really does blow my mind. We only ever had 5k followers at our absolute most popular but it has definitely been used and talked about widely by way more than 5k people, I’m sure of it.

“Princes do not fall in love with gardener boys,” he told himself one night, staring into the shard of looking glass he kept on a shelf, hoping it would help, hoping that hearing it out loud would make him believe it, would help him put all these ridiculous notions behind him.

It didn't work.

Crowley and Aziraphale, the gardener's boy and the prince, meet as children and develop an unlikely friendship.

By the time they're twenty, everything has changed.

In the heart of a bustling fantastical city, Mr. Fell’s Arcane Tomes and Curiosities supplies illustrious adventurers with magical weaponry and armor. One fateful day, a regular customer brings Mr. Fell a strange instrument inscribed with demonic script, which turns out to be a prison for an unlucky lamia demon named Crowley. As far as demons go, Crowley seems to be more disgruntled and sarcastic than outright evil – and all he wants is to be released from his prison.

And Mr. Fell has problems of his own: he has no memory of who or what he is. He’s plagued by illnesses and terrifying dreams. Deep within, he believes he might not be human at all, but something much more powerful – and much more dangerous. Mr. Fell’s life is hardly stable to begin with, and Crowley might be the catalyst that causes it to crash down for good.

Hi there! Honestly discovering this blog has been a godsend. Its helped me manage fandom and interactions with others 💕

Idk if this would be the place to ask, but how do I write for a specific character to be canon compliant? I get jealous and upset when I see others write said character well and have them fit to their ship with their oc, and I feel like every time I try to write in character it feels flat and not like the character at all. Has this happened to you, and if so how did/do you navigate it? Thank you so much for your time ❤️

i have DEFINITELY felt like this before. my primary selfshipping activity (aside from daydreaming) is writing short-form fanfiction, and some of my faves have absolutely been harder to write than others. the advice i'd give here about all forms of fanwork applies: spend time studying the source material, take notes on what contributes most to the "feel" of the character (such as personality, dialogue, actions), and don't be afraid to keep trying until something starts to stick. it's okay if you fail a few times! it's just part of the process of getting to know them. remember that you are your own harshest critic.

here's one more tip i've used before: try switching up the perspective you're writing from! if your character is a protagonist or viewpoint character in their source, it can feel more accurate to write from THEIR point of view so you can explore their thoughts in detail. if their inner thoughts are left a mystery in canon, though, describing them from the outside might resemble the source more closely. as another example, i had a f/o who was fairly one-dimensional in his source, and one way i got comfortable portraying him was by literally writing a talk show-style "interview" between him and another character, which i used to tease out his thoughts in a conversational scenario. trying little fun things like that can be a great way of getting through the mental block.

hey nino! i don't know if you're intending on your ts2 ventures to continue, but if so, would you consider making a ts2 cc finds and/or resource page? i really want to get (back) into ts2, but not knowing many creators, essentials or where to get the "good stuff" can seem a bit daunting, tbh

hi rudy! i have a rather cluttered side blog for ts2 cc finds here that nobody has ever seen before, lol. it's primarily full of cas items and the occasional build/buy or defaults, though. i do plan on making a resources page for cc that i personally use for ts2 , but in the meantime you might want to check out this comprehensive aesthetics guide! i learned how to install reshade through this guide and it's 80% responsible for how my game looks. everything you need to know about aesthetics (defaults, lighting, mods, etc) is right there, it's a godsend. honestly, truly.
