Upcoming Magical Girl Projects

Magical girl fans are finally eating good after years of starvation. So good, in fact, that I decided to make a list of magical girl projects in development.

The Magical Girl and the Evil Lieutenant Used to Be Archenemies - The most imminent of these projects, since it's premiering only in a few days. It's the story of the forbidden romance between the magical girl Byakuya Mimori and Mira, a high-ranking official of an army trying to take over the world.

Mermaid Magic - In a new western magical girl show from the same studio as Winx Club, Princess Merlinda, with her friends Sasha and Nerissa in tow, ventures to the human world in order to find a way to save her homeland of Mertropia from the ghost pirate Barbarossa and his monster horde. Dropping on Netflix next month.

Acro Trip - One of several new magical girl series coming out in the Fall 2024 anime season, Acro Trip follows Chizuko Date as her efforts to increase appreciation for her idol, local magical girl Berry Blossom, takes her down a "dark path filled with strange folks."

Magilumiere Magical Girls Inc. - Kana Sakuragi is having a hard time finding work, botching over 15 different job interviews. However, her luck changes when a series of events lands her a job at the magical girl company Magilumiere.

The Story of the Girl Who Couldn't Become a Wizard - The third of the magical girl anime coming out in October, MahoNare for short tells the story of Kurumi Mirai as she tries to become a wizard anyways after failing to get into her school's magic division.

Puella Magi Madoka Magica the Movie - Walpurgisnacht Rising - The fourth PMMM movie, which will pick up where Rebellion's massive cliffhanger left off. It's currently set to come out sometime later this year.

Cute High Earth Defense Club Eternal Love! - The magical boy series is getting a new movie in winter 2025 as part of the celebrations for its 10th anniversary. While the movie will "consist entirely of new scenes that will be newly drawn," exact plot details are unknown. (Added August 7, 2024)

Mahou Tsukai Precure: Mirai Days - A new installment in the Precure franchise, Mirai Days will serve as a sequel to Mahou Tsukai, the thirteenth season. Even though it's premiering early next year, specific plot details are currently unknown.

Princess Session Orchestra - A TV original coming next year, Princess Session Orchestra is based on a concept by Akifumi Kaneko, one of Symphogear's co-creators. The land of Alicepia's peace is destroyed when monsters called Jammerwocks attack, prompting a trio of young girls to step up the plate to protect the realm.

Winx Club - The western magical girl classic is getting a CGI reboot. While comments by Iginio Straffi imply that certain characters who were introduced later in the original series (such as Roxy and Nabu) will appear earlier, no specific plot details have been revealed so far. The series is coming to Netflix late next year.

New Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt - Panty & Stocking is getting a second season after over a decade that's coming out sometime next year with no specific plot details revealed yet. (Added August 7, 2024)

Project Symphogear Next - A new Symphogear movie was announced late last year. However, no further details have been revealed.

Hua Xianzi: Zhi Mofa Xiang Dui Lun - A co-production between Tencent Video and Toei Animation's Shanghai branch, this anime is being billed as a "remake" of Lunlun the Flower Fairy. That being said, promises of "a fresh story and characters" make it sound more like a reboot.

Studio Pierrot's new anime - Studio Pierrot, which has made a variety of magical girl anime from Creamy Mami to Tokyo Mew Mew, has announced that they're creating a new TV original magical girl anime. No specific details have been disclosed, but the caption for the teaser image ("I want you to sing once more...") implies that it'll be a magical idol anime.

Lolirock season three - After Lolirock's second season ended with a cliffhanger all the way back in 2017, it seemed like the story would never get a proper conclusion. However, the series's creator and director, Jean-Louis Vandestoc, announced on his Instagram in 2023 that creative meetings for a third season have begun.

Magic Knight Rayearth revival - TMS Entertainment is making a new Magic Knight Rayearth anime in honor of the franchise's 30th anniversary. Unfortunately, it's currently unknown what the format will be.

Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card season two - The sequel to the magical girl classic is getting a second season that will adapt the rest of the manga.

Magical Girl holoWitches - A multimedia project starring six VTubers as fictionalized versions of themselves who work as both streamers and magical girls who save people when they get trapped in the magical Holocas World. There was a four minute extended trailer in May, but the anime's proper premiere date is unknown.

Ojamajo Doremi 16-20's - An adaptation of Ojamajo Doremi's light novel sequel series, which follows the girls as they grow from being in their mid-teens to early 20s. Interestingly, the format for the adaptation (TV show, movie, or streaming series) will be based on the reception of a music video featuring the girls as adults.

you were having a terrible day, nothing was going right and the only thing keeping you from completely breaking down was the movie night you had planned with your boyfriends.

8 o’clock came and you were all set up in your living room with snacks, blankets and of course wolf chan and dwaekki. you were sat on the couch, barely containing your excitement for the night ahead.

but then 8:15 came and you were still sat there alone, and then 8:20 you decided to send them a gentle reminder.

i hope everything’s okay, but it’s getting late so i’m heading to bed, we can do movie night another night, goodnight my loves

now it’s 10:00, you had a terrible day and now the one thing you were looking forward to fell through, you were defeated. at your last texts you moped into your room needing nothing more than your warm bed and comfort movie.

luckily you had already put the snacks away after an hour of waiting realizing they probably forgot. once cozy in bed, you put monsters inc on your tv and pulled the two stuffies to your chest.

it was at this point the realization of what happened hit and you couldn’t stop the breakdown that followed. tears streaming down your face, breathing terribly uneven, and incoherent words falling from your mouth.

“they- they forgot about me.” you whimpered, hugging the plushies impossibly closer to you. the hoodie from changbin that usually helps calm you down, was now just a painful reminder of the two missing people.

you ripped the article of clothing off in an attempt to calm yourself, throwing it across the room. you settled back into the soft mattress, placing the gray and pink plushes to the side, opting for your soft blanket to calm yourself.

luckily after a few minutes your comfort movie had worked it’s magic and you felt yourself relax enough to finally fall into dreamland, tears drying against your skin as you slept.

unbeknownst to you, your boys were scrambling 15 minutes away in the studio. the producers had a habit of locking up their phones during their working hours to limit distractions but unfortunately that caused them to also forget about the plans they made with their favorite girl.

“oh fuck, hyung we gotta go, like now.” changbin shot up out of his chair once he realized the time. they were supposed to be at your apartment 2 hours ago to start movie night. “huh? what, what happened, what’s wrong?” trying to figure out what could’ve pulled such a reaction from the younger boy.

“look at the time,” he points to the time to emphasize his statement. “oh fuck,” the older of the two’s eyes goes as wide a saucers, whipping his head to the former. “we were supposed to be there 2 hours ago.” bin nods his head before moving to shut everything down.

“okay, okay, relax bin, let me save everything, you pack everything up then we can leave, okay?” changbin nods, realizing he’s right, this will all be completely in vain if they lost everything they were working on.

in the midst of gathering their items, changbin finally looks at his phone where he finds all the messages you sent, the last one being sent 15 minutes ago. he quickly texts out a response, hoping you hadn’t fallen asleep yet.

princess we’re so so sorry, we got caught up in work, we’re packing and heading to you now. we love you so so much baby. 🩷🩷

he puts his nail in his mouth, gnawing on it anxiously as his leg shakes. after saving all the files and shutting everything down, chan turns back to find a very anxious changbin staring at his phone.

he makes his way next to him, placing his hand on the shaking leg. “hey, what’s going on?” he asks gently. changbin looks up, unshed tears line his soft eyes. “she texted us 11 times.” his breathes, shaking his head, showing him the phone screen.

“and we ignored every single one of them. what if she was hurt? what if something happened? we would’ve never known” he rambles, sending himself further into a spiral.

“hey, hey,” he gently grabs the younger’s cheek, “she’s safe, she’s home in bed asleep,” his thumb slowly stroking his cheek, soothing the anxious man. “we’re going to her now, everything will be okay, okay?” bin nods his head, closing his eyes, letting a stray tear or two run down his cheek.

chan wipes the tears before placing a soft, loving kiss to his temple. “okay, let’s go see our girl.” chan smiles, grabbing his hand pulling him up with him.

once they made it to your apartment (not without breaking a few traffic laws), they let themselves in with the spare key you made them. quickly discarding their shoes, practically running to your room but not without missing the wrapped up snacks in your kitchen or the discarded blanket pile on your couch.

changbin pauses, guilt clutching his heart as he sees your discarded preparations. “come on.” chan quietly ushers, pointing to your room with a quick movement of his head. bin is quick to follow, needing to see you as soon as possible.

chan opens your door, finding a sleeping lump in the middle of your bed and none other than monsters inc playing softly on the screen. that alone told them everything they needed to know but then the thrown hoodie on the floor and two plushies laying next to you instead of clutched to your chest?

they knew they messed up, big time. bin went to rush to you, to wake you up and apologize profusely but chan stops him. “hold on, you might scare her.” bin nods understanding that even though he means well, you were in a very fragile mental state.

the older man carefully sits on the side of your bed, placing a hand to your shoulder. it was only then did he catch a glimpse of the tears stains dried to your chubby cheeks. his breath hitches, causing changbin to look after, catching sight of the same thing, his eyes filling with tears once more.

chan holds out his hand to give him a quick squeeze and a kiss before turning back to the problem at hand. he lays his chin on your shoulder, softly rubbing your arm to coax you awake.

“sweet girl,” he whispers, placing kisses to your shoulder, trying to wake you up as softly as possible. “wake up baby girl.” you slowly come back to consciousness, realizing that there was someone touching you.

you would have been scared if you didn’t recognize the familiar aussie voice. chan sits back as he feels you stir, bin coming to sit beside him, placing a hand to your thigh.. you turn to find your boys looking at you with the softest eyes you’ve ever seen.

you feel the familiar sting behind your eyes but you quickly rub your eyes, masking your tears. “hi” your voice quiet, sleep lacing your voice. “hi sweetheart.” the aussie coos, “hi bunny.” bin whispers, his fingers tracing patterns on your thighs soothing him you.

“we’re sorry baby, we completely lost track of time, and we put our phones away so we didn’t see you texted, we’re just- really sorry bubba.” you nod, willing your tears away before you spoke.

“it’s okay, i understand.” you say lowly, fidgeting with the soft material to keep your composure. but try as you might the two boys knew you all too well.

“no it’s not,” bin finally speaks, causing you to catch a glimpse of him. two streaks shine on his soft cheeks against the glow of the tv, caught your eye. you sit up, moving chan, attempting to reach changbin.

“it’s not okay, we knew we had plans with you today, and not only did we miss it, we ignored you-” you cut him off with a kiss, your hand coming to wipe the wet streaks away. you pull away, your own tears making their way down your chubby cheeks.

“i am upset, but i’m not mad. i just had a bad day and this was the one thing i was looking forward to and it was just the final straw.” pause, sniffling as chan grabs the hand still in your lap.

“i was inconsolable and your hoodie and the stuffies just felt like a reminder of my bad day.” you look down, your hand falling from the soft man’s cheek to your lap, where he grabs your hand. you hear a sniffle, cause your head to shoot up where you find them both with wet streaks on their cheeks.

your lip wobbles as you see your boys upset, you shake your head frantically. before you can even open your mouth, chan shakes his head before moving behind you, pulling you to his chest. binnie moves to sit in chan’s previous position, placing a soothing hand on your thigh.

“do not apologize, you did nothing wrong, us being upset or missing movie night is not your fault, nor is it your problem to fix.” he whispers in your ear, rubbing your soft tummy. your lip wobbles again, dropping your head into your hands as you sob.

bin moves to wrap his arms around you, bringing you to him as best he could with you against chan. they knew you were upset and the best thing for you was to let you cry it out as heart wrenching as your sobs are.

they just hold you as you calm down, binnie rubbing your back, placing kisses to your temple. chan rubbing your tummy, placing kisses to your shoulder.

you pull away once you feel calm enough, wiping your tears as you sniffle. “thank you, both of you, i love you both more than you know.” you give bin a kiss first before turning around as best you could, doing the same to chan.

“come on, let’s get you to sleep, we’ll talk more in the morning, sweet girl, okay?” he pats your tummy, waiting for you to nod your head before moving the blankets to give you space in the middle of the bed. you carefully move over, shivering as you land on the cold side of the mattress.

both boys get up, chan rounding the bed to get to the other side while binnie goes to grab his discarded hoodie. he makes it back to your side as chan sits on the edge of the bed.

“sit it up for me quick bunny. “ he says, kneeling on the bed, scrunching the fabric. you sit up, lifting your arms so he can slip the familiar fabric over your head. once you slide your hands through the sleeves, the hood covering a part of your face.

you give him a cheesy smile before shooting out to wrap your arms around him. he wraps his arms around your shoulders, placing a big kiss to your hood covered head. “mwah!” he plops down next to me, getting comfy under the blankets.

you adjust the hoodie a bit before leaning against the plush pillows. chan lifts up the two stuffies, placing them to your chest, wrapping your arm around them. you smile once again, rolling over to place a big kiss on his cheek.

once you settle back into the bed, they both wrap their arms around you, making you feel safe and secure. “good night bubba, we love you,” chan whispers in your ear before placing a loving kiss to your soft cheek. “so so much bunny.” binnie finishes, placing a kiss to your other cheek.

you melt right into their arms. you get comfortable, turning on your side to face binnie, laying your head on his chest, grabbing chan’s arm to stay around you. “i love you both too, more than you know.” you mumble, placing a kiss to bin’s pec and chan’s hand.

you all melt into each other, relaxing slowly as sleep welcomes you, the soft sounds of monsters inc playing as you all lay peacefully in each other’s arms.

(I'm very sorry that I didn't publish more new posts a month ago than I did one a month ago; because I'm semi-inactive as long as I'm just browsing on search or on followed tags and reblogged others' posts in my page for my general interest)

Yesterday, it was about four days in a row that I slowly but semi-decidedly finished the design sheet/concept art + supplementary informations of Randall Boggs and Mr. Waternoose from Monsters Inc. in the version of my unfinished but immediate Crossover AU project/fan book called "Star Heart", this is because this idea of mine usually arose from my strange imagination about the fact that it would happen to these two villainous and meanly disruptive monster boys who generally appeared more often in my Crossover AU of the project at all lol XD.

Anyway, I hope you like my conceptual fan work of two MI villains, as I haven't drawn them in two or three years.

Rafiki: The Journal of the Association of Black Gays, Vol. 1 #1 (Fall 1976)

"Rafiki was a quarterly publication from the Association of Black Gays (ABG), a Los Angeles, California gay activist group that organized through education, political engagement, and grassroots activism to improve the conditions for Los Angeles’s Black gays and lesbians.

According to the journal, the title Rafiki was chosen because it means “friend” in Swahili and “that’s what [ABG] hope to be for you.” This first issue includes an article on the history of ABG and the fact that Black gays and lesbians have been largely excluded from the political, social, and economic advances of the gay community.

Included in this issue are articles such as “Homosexuality in Tribal Africa” and “Disco Discontent” (an open letter to the owner of Studio One, Scott Forbes), as well as poetry by Steven Corbin and Frances Andrews, and book reviews. It even contains an ad for the famous Catch One Club owned by Jewel Williams, which is still operating today!"

I Am Your Sister: Black Women Organizing Across Sexualities by Audre Lorde (Kitchen Table: Women of Color Press, 1985; from the Freedom Organizing Series)

"This small twelve-page publication derives from a speech Audre Lorde gave at the Women’s Center of Medgar Evers College in New York City regarding the exclusion of Lesbians in the feminist movement and how Lorde’s identity as both a Black woman and lesbian are inextricably linked.

Primarily, heterosexism and homophobia are major issues Lorde states are “two grave barriers to organizing among Black women.” Lorde ends the essay with the statement: “I am a Black Lesbian, and I am your sister.”

Her emphasis on the duality of this identity stems from a 1960s poster that said “He’s not black, he’s my brother!,” which Lorde states infuriated her because “it implied that the two were mutually exclusive.”

Kitchen Table: Women of Color Press was founded by Barbara Smith—another Black Lesbian feminist—and Audre Lorde in 1980 to create a publishing apparatus for women of color who at the time did not have control over how they were published except through the white-dominated outlets."

Flawless! The Life & Times of T.B.D.J. AKA Tiffani Inc. AKA Mrs. … (Manuscript) by Tiffany Bowerman (July 2007, A&E Publishers)

This autobiographical manuscript traces the life of Tiffany Bowerman aka Tiffany B.D. Johnson (b. 1959), who states that she “was the first African-American Transsexual to have state issued birth certificate reissued [1990]… was the first to legally marry three different active duty military men… [and] first… to found their own Christian Denomination… The Agape-Ecumenical Christian Denomination.”

Further, she states “I have tried to put together something striking and original[,] a journey from childhood to self aware adult. A life that was and is with all regrets included.”

This manuscript is a preliminary copy of a rough draft, and contains various memoirs, photographs, legal documents, and ephemera.

Out in Black and White: A Directory of Publications By, About, For People of Afrikan Descent In-The-Life by the Broward County Library Outreach Services Department Exhibit/Programming Services with direction by Eric Jon Rawlins (January, 1996)

Out in Black and White is a directory of various serial publications (magazines, newsletters, journals, etc.) throughout the United States that are focused on the Black LGBTQ experience. According to the directory, “[t]his project was inspired by the atmosphere of strength, oneness and productivity created by the Million Man March [on October 16,] 1995.”

The Million Man March was a political demonstration that took place at the National Mall in Washington, D.C. with the purpose of encouraging involvement in the improvement of the conditions of African Americans. Eric Jon Rawlins was a Broward County, Florida librarian who at one time was also the second vice president of the NAACP Fort Lauderdale branch in the late 1980s.

Currently, the Eric Jon Rawlins Collection consisting of personal and professional papers, as well as his 6,000 vinyl record album collection, are housed at the African American Research Library and Cultural Center Special Collections in Broward County, FL.

Systech - overdrive

"Have you ever played a pedal that stuck with you forever, even though you knew in your heart it was totally weird, and nobody famous ever used it? For me, yeah, tons of them. But if I had to pick one that best fit these criteria, this one would be it. This is the Systech Overdrive. Before we dive in, let’s talk a little about where it was made.

There was a time when, of all places, Kalamazoo Michigan was an epicenter for musically related things. Apart from being a city referenced by Looney Tunes and the hometown of Glen Miller’s gal, Kalamazoo had the Sound Factory, which was a collective of sorts that featured guitar luthiery, a recording studio and electronic gear manufacturing. The facility sat front and center on Kalamazoo Avenue, smack dab in the middle of the city, and attracted visitors from all over.

Of course, if it was some random outpost of nobodies, the name wouldn’t carry any weight. However, the Sound Factory was shored up by three relatively heavy hitters of the early ‘70s. One such was Greg Hochman, Keith Emerson’s Moog technician. He was joined by Bryce Roberson, otherwise known as Uncle Dirty of Chess Records fame and a relatively unknown person named Charlie Wicks. If you’ve been reading this column for a while, you’ll recognize him as the man behind ProCo—the Ratfather.

Together, these three developed Systech, which itself was short for “Systems & Technology in Music, Inc.” That mouthful of a company was responsible for the Harmonic Energizer, a little-known yet highly influential effect that provided a deep filtered sound in addition to some crunchy drive and sharp resonant peaks. You might know it as one of Frank Zappa’s signature pieces. And while this Overdrive effect wasn’t that, it was derived from the Harmonic Energizer and shares a handful of characteristics.

Basically, if dialed in just the right way, the Harmonic Energizer will make short work of an entire speaker cabinet and anyone in the audience. This is because it was designed to provide a staggering gain of 55dB, enough to cause serious damage to your gear or hearing. The Overdrive was created to get some of those tones at non speaker-shredding levels.

If you’re thinking this unit is some kind of proto-Tube Screamer, think again. Because this was the early ‘70s, nobody had really decided exactly what “overdrive” meant. And though Maestro (coincidentally, also in Kalamazoo) had created one of almost every effect under the sun, pedal fever wasn’t quite here just yet, so Systech was essentially “winging it.” With that said, the Overdrive is actually a pretty aggressive fuzz sound. And to that end, the fuzz circuit is pretty unique. The entire affair contains two transistors—one a JFET input buffer—and one dual op-amp with a handful of other components. Even the topology is relatively simple, but the simplicity ends with the schematic.

The EQ control works unlike pretty much any EQ control you’ve ever fiddled with; as much an EQ as the whole unit is an overdrive. Instead of a simple tonal adjustment, the EQ control is actually an active bandpass filter, in the same family as a wah circuit. With a simple twist of a knob, you can adjust this filter from 122Hz to 900Hz. As you might imagine, the EQ control sounds relatively cocked-wah-esque, but the sound is much more aggressive than any wah on the market before or since. The reason has to do with the Q factor, essentially a bandwidth control. A wah’s Q is set by its 33K resistor and is much wider than that of the Overdrive, so the tone is a little more rounded. While a wah’s filter is a rubber mallet, the Systech Overdrive’s is a tack hammer. While the sound is curious, the thing really comes to life when you crank the EQ control, as it gives you a nice punch in the mids. You lose a little definition when you get to the bottom third, but man is it fun to play with.

“Distortion” is just what it sounds like, but curiously enough, “Gain” is about as close to a volume knob as you’re going to get. Much like Distortion, if you turn it all the way down it kills the entire signal, but it sits behind a final gain stage. If you have the guts to crank both Distortion and Gain, you’re richly rewarded with gobs of gooey sustain, but the flipside is that your amp is likely screaming “uncle.” Worth it? Your call. I say go for it.

Many people say Zappa used a Systech Overdrive, but alas, he did not. However, when you play it, you can definitely see the similarities between this unit and the fabled Harmonic Energizer. But as far as I’m concerned, it’s close enough for rock and roll."

“So, Samantha,” Laswell’s face was placid, her blue eyes scanning Samantha’s face. “Why Studio 141?”

“Well, for starters, the interview room doesn’t have a musty leather couch I have to sit on,” Samantha joked. She swallowed, eyes flicking anxiously over as Price huffed softly. She defaulted to her practiced spiel, “Studio 141 is known within the porn industry as being as ethical, fair and inclusive as possible - values that are important to me as both a consumer and as a performer.”

“You watch our work then?” Price’s voice interrupted her practiced answer.

Samantha nodded, as she felt heat prickle up her ears as she ducked her head briefly. “I - I do. I - shit this feels - fuck, I’m so sorry for my - damn.” She took a steadying breath, closing her eyes for a second. “Sorry - I’ve been subscribed to Studio 141’s exclusive access tier since it was an option in my budget, which was about six years ago, about three months after the studio broke away from Porn Inc. To say I’ve watched y’all grow as a company sounds weird, but…I sort of have.”

She met Price’s eyes again, as he pressed further, leaning forward on the table. “So you are familiar with our ethics and standards. Why should we invite you in as a performer with Studio 141?”

Samantha pulled her eyes away from how his shirt sleeve pulled at his shoulders and how his hands folded themselves together over the folder, meeting Laswell’s piercing gaze. With a slight clearing of her throat, Samantha opened her folder and launched into her spiel.

I know that many people in the fandom are not fans of the Va lx Tylor ship but I don't know in this shot they look like they are on a date at a Hawaiian restaurant or something like that Honestly, I'm skeptical. I like them as friends, but if they become a couple, it wouldn't be something I dislike at all. (If you don't like the ship it's just my assumption, I respect your opinion)

Disney Channel and Disney Television Animation Set Series Order For Centenary Animated Comedy “STUGO” Slated For 2024

Today, during a special presentation at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, Disney Television Animation revealed a brand new animated series called “StuGo” for the Disney Channel and Disney+ on 2024 as the 100th Disney Television Animation series.

“StuGo” focuses about six overambitious middle schoolers who are tricked into attending a fake academic summer camp by a mad scientist. Now they’re stuck for three months on a wild tropical island with mind-reading manatees, giant fighting fungi and fashion-forward mutants — less academia than they’d hoped for, but a lot more adventure.

The newly announced cast includes Tania Gunadi (”Penn Zero Part Time Hero”) as Pliny, Zosia Mamet (”Star Vs The Forces Of Evil”) as Merian, Gabourey Sidibe (FX’s ”American Horror Story” franchise) as Francis, Charlyne Yi (Cartoon Network Studios “Steven Universe” Franchise) as Larry, Zach Reino (”Big City Greens” franchise) as Chip, Deborah Baker Jr. (”Grace and Frankie”) as Sara, and Lorraine Toussaint (”Big City Greens” franchise) as Dr. Lullah.

The Ink Demonth 2023 - Day 13. Children

Day 13. Children Crossover: Gravity Falls A small collage of photos from a trip of some twins and their friend-guardian Soos to a forgotten, abandoned Studio...

Seriously, I would watch a crossover of these two series - and you? Picture this: Dipper and Mabel trying to solve the mystery of the Studio! Better than cross with Scooby Doo. Damn, this could be really great! I know that somewhere in the BATIM fandom there is a comics in which such a story takes place and I even have it on my to-read list - but apart from Dipper and Mabel, there are a lot of characters from other things... And I have in my mind pure crossover of these two.

In case anyone doesn't know, this is what the original looks like. I wanted to keep the sense of individual photos and create analogies - I think I succeeded. Thanks to the people who tried to guess who would appear and possibly where - as you can see, you managed to get a few things right ;) Guzzlordnut in particular was the most accurate!

Originally, there was supposed to be a SATIM crossover with Samdy Kids here, i.e. two Bendies, two Sammys and three children - but it seemed boring to me, it was a backup plan... and then I had an epiphany! And boom, we got it! This isn't my first Gravity Falls fanart, but I think it's much better.

PS. On the top it's not Porter. He's my OC - Brody the Shepherd.

Summary: Y/n was not having a good week. All their efforts to record the song they were including in their next album thwarted by auras, it’s no surprise that they have to deal with a tonic-clonic seizure. They  didn’t account for their lead producer catching on, however.

DS: Epileptic Reader masterlist

The instrumental flows through the headphones, one of the tracks set to be included in y/n’s upcoming album playing. Despite the remarkable progress y/n was doing – three out of nine tracks fully recorded – their health lately has been having other ideas. Namely auras. Daily. For the last week, y/n could do nothing else but stop recording for the day once the auras had started interfering with every little part of their day. But they’re feeling decent today, so y/n sips on a water bottle as they warm up their voice, drumming their fingers along their thigh.

They can do this. They’ll be fine.

“Ready to go, pop star?” Nodding along to the lead producer’s voice, y/n looks up for a moment, meeting Chan’s gaze. “I’ll replay the pre-chorus; I’ve got a good feeling about this one.”

As the song starts up again, y/n goes through their lyrics. The song is fun, bouncy and the musician feels optimistic. It’s going well after all; their tongue doesn’t feel heavy, there’s no brain fog stopping—

“…hey? Y/n – you okay? Can you hear me?” Huh?

Staring at the floor of the recording booth while the rest of their consciousness trickles back in, y/n says nothing, their body catching up with reality. A few minutes and y/n’ll be fine – in theory. But there’s silence, and it doesn't help Chan’s concern one bit, because the producer halts the song and recording in favour of going inside the booth himself.

That’s his artist in there, he’ll be damned if he doesn’t go in and check for himself.

Gentle hands reach for their headphones, and y/n finally feels physically present to react. Muttering a thank you and stepping around the recording equipment, the musician makes their way out of the booth. Chan’s hands on their shoulders help two-fold, grounding them when their posture sways with every second step. Sinking into the plush of the sofa, they nearly wince – three concerned pairs of eyes looking right back at them. Y/n’s medical wasn’t, and hadn’t been, any kind of mystery amongst the people they work with. Not that it was even allowed to be one in the first place.

“Was it that long?” Y/n simply can’t afford to keep cutting their working day short – things need to get done today; songs need to be recorded, photo shoots need to be attended, choreography needs to be worked on. The questioning shrug Jisung sends their way doesn’t exactly inspire confidence either.

“Three— maybe four minutes?” Changbin answers, peering at his phone. “It took a couple of minutes to realise you weren’t responding to any of us.”

Maybe it really was that long.

“Well-!” Chan cuts in, much to y/n’s appreciation. “We’re supposed to be scheduled with you later tonight as well, there’s enough material to work with for now… you could take a nap before heading off for lunch?” And y/n grabs his offer with both hands, getting up with a series of thanks sent the producers way, intent on finding a spare, unused practice room to rest in. Jisung and Changbin do voice their concerns, offering up the studio sofa, and y/n declines – they need the lights off, and it would put a stop to the production team’s work.

“At least let Chan hyung take your stuff?” Changbin offers.

“Sure, thanks Bin… see you this evening?”

“See you later, superstar~”

Y/n does find a space to nap, slipping into the lone practice room and taking their spot on the sofa tucked against the wall. Chan’s not too far behind, slipping inside with y/n’s things in hand while he tries – and somewhat fails – to catch the door with his foot before it ultimately crashes shut.

“Shit— sorry, sorry, didn’t mean to do that.” The producer rambles, a sheepish tug of a smile on his face. Dropping y/n’s bag by the arm of the sofa under the artist’s sleepy instruction, Chan pauses on his way to the light switch.

“Call me if you need something when you wake up, yeah?”

“Yeah, I will. Thanks Chris.”

When y/n wakes up some unknown time later, they’re met by a sliver of light pouring into the practice room and  onto their face. It does a decent job of waking them up, and soon the musician is swinging their legs over the side of the sofa, unable to get themselves back to sleep. They yawn, the last remnants of sleep slipping through their fingers.

The nap was good, very good, but life doesn’t stop for anyone, and schedules still need to be attended to.

Making their way through the halls of the agency with their bag slung over their shoulder, y/n pauses, taking several deep breaths. There’s an annoyingly familiar tingle going up their arm, but it’s probably just going to be another ‘seizure scare’. It has to be. Checking their phone with their good hand, y/n almost wants to cry in relief when their manager texts them with the news that the interview’s been moved a few days forward. There was no way y/n could give a coherent interview today anyway.

Y/n’s on their way to practice when it hits, sending y/n to the floor as their body goes stiff and rigid. Their body isn’t their own; jerking limbs, locked jaw, groaning and wheezing as the seizure takes hold. It won’t stop, y/n can’t make it stop and there’s nothing the artist can do but let it run its course.

“What the—…y/n? Y/n, hey popstar, is that—” Chan falls silent as he comes across y/n’s seizing body, tongue frozen as he scrambles over in a panic, health and safety presentations repeating themselves over and over again.

Y/n’s already wearing a hoodie, but extra protection in the form of their bag wouldn’t hurt.

“…shit, it’s been a couple minutes? More?” Chan rambles to himself, stress seeping into his system as he clears the space just that little bit more. “You’re gonna be okay, it’s gonna be okay, y/n. It’s almost over now…”

Chan hopes it will be over soon.

The third minute mark gives Chan enough fear to start dialling 119. Y/n was already on the ground when he found them, what if they’d already passed the five-minute mark for ‘normal’ seizure? His finger presses the last digit when he spots y/n’s body starting to go lax, and the producer almost wants to cry out in relief.

Not yet. Not until y/n is better and fully aware of themselves.

It takes a while at first; y/n’s hearing starts coming back slowly,  sounds of Chan’s worry and a vague phone conversation filtering its way in. The sensations follow, fingers feeling the fabric of y/n’s hoodie from where their arm had locked in place, the material of their bag cushioning the back of their head. Y/n’s eyes open up slowly, damp with unshed tears, the lights of the company hallway blinding like the heaven’s gates themselves had opened up.

They groan, and finally, Chan cries out in relief.

“Hey there popstar…” he smiles, worried eyes seeking y/n’s gaze, “you with me?”

“…’s bright.” Their eyes get some relief in the shade of Chan’s hand blocking the overhead lights. “Where…?”

“You’re in the hallway mate, the seizure wasn’t too long when I found you.” Chan answers, immediately coming ‘to y/n’s aid when the artist starts to pull themselves up, albeit still shaking. There’s already hints of soreness across y/n’s body, and hints of a headache creeping up on them.

“Hey, Chris?”

“Mhm?” He stands up as soon as y/n does, watching with pre-emptive concern as they reach to collect their things, ever ready to help.

“I think…I think I’m just gonna call it a night,” y/n yawns, “could you drop me off outside my apartment? I’ll pay you back for the gas.”

Sure thing. Don’t worry about the gas money, you just get some rest, okay?”

Y/n smiles. They will.

This year, we were thrilled to see María Berrío’s work at the ICA Boston. Berrío (born 1982) crafts her large-scale collage paintings through a unique, meticulous process of collaging torn pieces of Japanese paper with watercolor to create riveting, magical scenes. Some of the images in this post are from her exhibit at the ICA Boston.

Born in Bogotá, Columbia, María Berrío is a visual artist working in Brooklyn, New York. She grew up between a house in Bogotá and a farm in the Colombian countryside. Berrío came to the United States at the age eighteen to attend Parsons School of Design for her BFA, later completing her MFA at the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan in 2007.

Berrío’s large-scale works reflect on cross-cultural connections and global migration, often highlighting  women and children. She draws inspiration from her childhood memories and South American cultural roots and landscapes.

Mission: Jingle Bells — VoicePlay music video

After the events of "Panic! in 4 Minutes" (and its prequel "Trapped" that they hadn't filmed yet), you might think the VoicePlay guys would be more vigilant against being abducted. But no, they've gotten kidnapped and tied to a circle of chairs again. At least this time their captor isn't actively trying to kill them. He just wants a private performance… or else.

Trivia:

○ Like most of the spoken dialogue in VoicePlay's music videos, the kidnapper is voiced by Eli. The mystery person at the computer equipment is Kathy.

○ The guys have never released a conventional version of "Jingle Bells", but they have done serveral creative things with it:

They performed a fun remix as a commercial bumper during the Sing-Off season 4 finale.

They did a Bollywood-inspired version on their 2012 holiday album, "Peppermint Winter".

And, of course, they included an excerpt in their "Most of the Songs" holiday medley that they performed at seasonal shows, including their three annual residencies at Disney World for Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party.

○ VoicePlay later included the Mission: Impossible theme in their "Aca Top 10 – Movie Themes" countdown with guest Rob Lundquist from Home Free.

○ The fellas made some festive hostage-note-style promo posters that they posted to their individual social media accounts. (Though I can't find J.None's anywhere.)

○ This video was commissioned by Paramount Studios as part of the advertising campaign for the home media release of Mission: Impossible – Fallout, the sixth movie in the series.

○ Instead of a note in the YouTube description, they posted a comment reading: "MERRY CHRISTMAS! This video was sponsored by Mission: Impossible – Fallout — If you're looking for something INCREDIBLE to watch this holiday season with all of your fav secret agents, 😎 👉 http://paramnt.us/Get.Fallout. Today (This comment will self destruct in 5 seconds)."

○ The video won a 2019 Clio award, the industry awards for advertising. The coordinating agency, Think Jam Inc., took home a bronze in the Home Entertainment: Original Content category.

○ Earl got a little lost in the sauce when he picked up breakfast for the guys and their crew on the way to the filming location.
