origin story

shin is a relatively new magical person, having been one for only seven months at the age of 16. unlike most people, they were never a fan of the magical people. they were either neutral or subtly critical, questioning the situation while others gushed over the heroes.

"does no one find it suspicious that these enemies keep showing up? or that some of them resemble the past magical people??"

convinced there was something sinister brewing beneath the surface, shin began investigating. though they looked like any other average high schooler, shin was already a well-known figure among the city's police officers, often assisting the law enforcement team (whether it wanted the help or not) with tricky cases.

but during one of these investigations, they got caught in a villain attack. injured and cornered, shin thought their time was up—until a glowing key appeared before them.

with no other choice, they used the key to transform and defeated the villain. becoming a magikey user, however, was a double-edged sword. on one hand, it granted shin a firsthand view of the magical society and its secrets. on the other, it placed them directly under the scrutiny of crowley, someone shin didn't fully trust.

now, seven months into their role as "veridic", shin walks a fine line, balancing their secret investigation with their newfound magical responsibilities.

a hunter’s pattern

it had been an ordinary tuesday when shin walked into the police station, expecting the usual exchange of banter and case updates.

"yo! your favorite menace is back here yet again oof—"

but immediately, they were almost sent to the floor as an officer bumped into them. he muttered a quick apology and a "car accident” as he and others rushed out the door.

accidents weren’t part of shin's specialty (murder cases were). usually, they would leave it to the professionals, but this one happened near where they lived, so shin felt they should at least check it out (and honesty they were kinda bored). without asking for permission, they slipped into the police car, and by now, the officers knew better than to argue.

when they arrived at the scene, it looked like any other tragic car accident. nothing was out of the ordinary, except for the fact that shin recognized the victim: a magical girl they had once worked with as veridic. as shin scanned the area, their eyes landed on the victim's bag, items spilling out beside her, and immediately felt off.

only after approaching the bag and watching an officer carefully sifted through it, placing items aside to check for the victim's identification, did that feeling of unease suddenly clicked into place—the magikey was missing.

initially, shin didn't think much of it, writing it off with excuses like maybe it got lost during the crash (after the clean up, they asked the officers if a key had been found. they didn't.), or maybe the victim left it at home (unlikely, magical users usually keep their keys with them at all time).

but over the next few months, more similar cases unfolded—magical users shin recognized, all found dead, and each time, the magikey was gone.

by the fourth case, shin was confident. this was no coincidence. it was a pattern.

someone was targeting the magical people and stealing their magikeys.

Josh Charles is playing Commander Judd and Serena marries him thinking she’s going to make a difference in Gilead but she ends up being the first wife he bluebeards…

Keeps the general audience happy because “yay Serena is finally dead” and there’s also the poetic justice of her finally being hoisted by her own petard (thinking she can reform Gilead and that she’s above it all when the country is an absolute cesspool and she never stood a chance)

Still not over how June was *so* into running away with Nick. Absolutely love it when my girl is impulsive af.

She really was just super keen on this idea. She loves him that much. Like the whole "I can't just leave everyone" was so giving, talk some sense into me. Cause I want to leave with you more than anything. The way June kisses him to say "yes!" was so PERFECT.

You know, I think this really speaks to how there's such a part of June that just wants to live. She just wants to live. To actually have a life that's been stolen from her for so long. And she wants to live that life with Nick. He's the one she's imagining building a future with. Alas my poor baby has more plot to go through and can't take a much needed vacation. The burden of being the protagonist truly.

Realistically, had they actually done it. I would give it a few months to a year tops until they got back into the fight. Obviously, June won't be totally at peace until both of her children are safe/Gilead is gone. Nonetheless this was absolutely amazing and such a treat. Truly the peak romance of it all!

Just the fact, that when opportunity presented itself, June made her choice.

I recently started watching The Handmaid's Tale on Hulu (the last episode I watched was S2 ep 7) and I'm curious what the general consensus is on Luke & June vs Nick & June bc I really like Nick for June and Luke doesn't seem terrible at all. Still, that one flashback scene where he reassures June that they should stay together even though they started their relationship while he was still married to another woman, "she doesn’t matter because we’re going to get married. I’m going to make you happy." gave me the ick.

Like, you married Annie, too and you still cheated on her so how is that at all reassuring? I'm still waiting for a flashback that shows what Annie and Luke's relationship was like bc I have absolutely no clue why he cheated on her. I can understand why June technically cheated on Luke with Nick which was bc she was trapped in a terrible system where she was abused and felt unloved and unwanted and she was separated from her loved ones and she just wanted to feel something. So far I haven't seen any dialogue from Luke saying anything about what his marriage with Annie was like but if I had to guess, based on the episode where Annie stalked June and accused her of "stealing her husband" as if he's not also a human being capable of making his own choices, maybe they had differing views/ideas on what they wanted out of marriage, or he fell out of love with her, or he cheated just to cheat like a lot of douchebag guys do.

And yes, I am aware that June is also in the wrong for knowingly going after a married man, she isn't innocent in this either. She did seem to consider ending the relationship after Annie confronted her (which, why did it take his ex confronting you for you to consider not getting with a married man? Did Moira not give you any criticism for it? She seems like the type who would bc real friends tell you when you did sth wrong and they hold you accountable but judging by how they act around each other Moira seems very supportive of their relationship) whereas Luke didn't seem to think there was anything wrong with staying with the woman he started a relationship with while he was still taken at any point in time but that means nothing since she did end up staying with him despite that.

Sorry for how long this is, I originally meant for this to be shorter lol I'll put a Keep Reading tab in case ppl just want the tl;dr at the top. So, with all this considered I'm wondering if everyone else that enjoys this show wants June to end up with Nick or stay with Luke and which one is supported by the majority of people?

mutuals before i shower and settle down to write, if you'd like to keep dedicated track of my whereabouts, my attention's mainly been split lately between three blogs; here, @kojikis and @tenkoseiensei! dark n dai have the bulk majority of my drafts and interactions so i'll probably mostly put myself to work here, but i don't want anyone wondering where i am when i do pop onto other blogs for the occasional alt muse/interaction.

listen to my fake mainline pokemon plot idea boy

a new region and youre the typical protag ready to get your first pokemon. its nothing out of the ordinary. every kid gets their first pokemon from the regions professor.

your rival is your childhood friend. hes the typical happy outgoing type who always has your back. think haus positive friendly energy with juns comedic antics. he always calls you by a nickname only you both know since you were kids. you two grew up together so it makes sense youre both getting your first pokemon together.

its nothing out of the ordinary. youre the protag and hes the rival whos always one step behind you.

then theres the regions champion.

hes the mysterious enigma who suddenly appeared and overthrew the elite four and previous champion years ago. hes so strong and so mysterious that people rarely see him or know what he looks like. what people Do know is that hes insanely strong and hes waiting for the one trainer who will defeat him one day. only the elite four and professor know him but even then he rarely shows himself

you then proceed with your normal pokemon journey. in time, you meet a mysterious man. hes quiet and kind but you sense that hes a powerful trainer all around. hes the typical adult character who cheers you on and helps you with your journey. it starts off small at first like healing your team and giving potions. but you, the protag, soon realizes his presence starts getting more and more plot relevant like giving items to get rid of plot roadblocks or giving tips in stopping the regions evil team

the man soon reveals that hes the mysterious hidden champion

hes so kind and so powerful. hes always there to help you or give you words of encouragement. you figured hes the typical supportive champion like previous games.

then theres a scene where the man meets your rival. your cheerful rambunctious rival who doesnt mind losing against you. whos always one step behind you. you get a shock of a lifetime to see the man acting disdainful towards him. the man chastises your rivals actions, saying he will always be weak if he continues to rely on you. you, the protag and player, understandably get angry and your rival gets irritated as well.

but your rival shakes it off. hes hurt but he shakes it off. screw what the guy said. hes here to enjoy life and have fun with his pokemon journey with you, his best friend after all.

but then the climax of the story happens. the evil teams leader resurrected the box legendary. it creates havoc as the legendarys power is the power of desire--no matter good or bad.

youre the protag. of course youre in charge of stopping the evil villain.

but suddenly, you, the player realize youre set to always lose. no matter what team you have. what strategy you use. what you do. the game sets to you, the protag, losing

this sets a cutscene of the evil leader using the legendary against you. the leader wants to annihilate anyone who stops him. the leaders desire was to gain strength--even if it means killing you

before you could get killed, you heard someone calling you by your childhood nickname

your childhood friend/rival didnt call out to you

the mysterious champion did

he stops the incident before you could get killed. he butts in before the legendary pokemon could get to you.

he got himself almost killed

it is then that you soon realize the plot twist of the game: the mysterious champion is your rival who had travelled back into the past and grew up

he travelled back. a few years too back after losing you, his best friend and dear rival, forever to the legendary pokemon

you learn that the 'other' rival was too late in his time to save the 'other' you. since then, he blames himself and has a deep hatred for himself and his weakness.

his desire to be strong. to save you. to protect you. it was more than enough to entice the legendary pokemon again to grant his selfish wish. he was transported back in time but in a time where you were still a toddler.

he was broken. but he knew he had to be strong in order to protect you

so he trained and trained until he became champion of the region. he knows being champion will allow him the sources to go against the evil organization. he knows being strongest will allow him to be the one to face against the legendary and save you

thats why he hates your rival--his younger, foolish self. he hates how carefree he is. he hates how he always stays in your shadow. because of his weakness, he lost his dear friend

the champion is your rival all along. broken. desperate. he did all of it. everything. just to make sure youre alive in this timeline.
