Can you explain what rufousing is?
Rufousing is a polygenic trait which influences the “richness” or “warmth” of phaeomelanin pigment in agouti cats.
Polygenic means there isn’t just one “rufous gene,” but rather multiple genes which influence the phenotype. When it comes to rufousing in cats these genes have not yet been isolated and identified.
That hasn’t stopped breeders from being able to select for more or less rufousing, though! The ruddy Abyssinian being an excellent example.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
On the left is the ruddy Abyssinian WCF Ch Lissana's Fiesta and on the right is White Wolf Phaeton.
These are both black-based ticked tabbies.
Tumblr media
[Source: Sparrow’s Garden]
In tabby cats the “true” color is portrayed by the stripes, which is why what’s frequently referred to as a “brown tabby” is actually black-based.
The rufousing polygenes work on the banding in between.
Tumblr media
Here are some more examples!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
One the left is a cool-toned Exotic Shorthair with low rufousing from Puro Glamour and on the right we have a very warm-toned Persian with high rufousing from Belcanto.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And then on the left we have a Siberian with low rufousing compared to the very warm-toned Siberian with high rufousing on the right. Both cats are from SarSibi.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In silver cats rufousing is referred to as tarnishing. On the left we have a Maine Coon without tarnishing (tarnish id undesirable in the breed) from Imperial Family and on the right we have an American Curl with tarnishing from ILmatar. This cat is not a tortoiseshell.

PROTAGONIST POST
pov designs! Read More for small design notes! will update links as I draw them
Tumblr media
FIREHEART/STAR - for fire coloured, I decided to imply yellow-orange-red with his stripes
BRAMBLECLAW/STAR - I feel like comparing his tabby pattern with Flame, Alder, Shadow, and Tawny kinda shows the Tigerstar tabby pattern.
LEAFPOOL - thought adding lines to the stripes by her eyes could imply more leaves or more stress
SQUIRRELFLIGHT/STAR - definitely has some of Firestar's tabby pattern
STORMFUR - I wanted him to look like an old man when he's a kid, kinda like how I think of Graystripe.
FEATHERTAIL - ear tufts extend to the side of the ear for a feathery look and fuzzy Graystripe chin
HOLLYLEAF - Leafpool's eye shape! also you may notice that for black cats, I draw their fur thinner by their ears. this is a small personal thing bc I've noticed that the fur is thinner there and it's especially noticeable in black cats
JAYFEATHER - blind =/= cataracts imo. His eyes can be unfocused/"lazy eye". His ears being thinner?? at the base is inherited from Crowfeather
LIONBLAZE - at first it's very believable that he's related to Brambleclaw, but then you notice his ears, eyes, eyebrows, nose, tabby markings above his nose/over his eyes are either more similar to Leafpool or just not from Brambleclaw...
DOVEWING - green eyes with a golden ring around the pupil. it's not visible here but she's got a white spot on her butt, based on a common trait among rock doves. small eyes, nose, and ears, kinda emphasizing how her power to see/smell/hear is even more unbelievable and supernatural
IVYPOOL - ear notch shaped a fun way. Despite her more prickly personality, she still gets the fun hair swirl like Dovewing
FLAMETAIL - ArchdemonSains on toyhouse has a flame-point Flametail, and I thought it was a perfect idea. These colours are also on Tawnypelt
GRAY WING - warm gray to contrast brother, slightly darker points. not visualized here, he had gray on his back.
THUNDER/STAR - bright orange boi with some brown. brighter orange than Firestar, but not quite "fire coloured" pelt. Ear notch has a lightning strike shape, like the Clan logo.
CLEAR SKY/STAR - cold gray with white points, contrasts brother. not visualized here, he has white on his chest. Round bite-like ear scar is supposed to be like the tree in the Clan logo, but I'm not a big fan of the execution
ALDERHEART - Squirrel's hair and dark colours with Bramble's tabby pattern and light colour
TWIGBRANCH - didn't want her to look too related to another protagonist. however, I did do the same kind of Leafpool cheek stripe to imply a twig on a branch haha
VIOLETSHINE - vaguely petal-shaped spot of black, also two different coloured eyebrows bc I think it's cute. Same chin shape as Twigbranch
SHADOWSIGHT - kinda forget the exact causes of his scars, but I think a bite mark barely missing his eye looks super cool. Has the Tigerstar-lineage ear-base tufts and tabby pattern, but Dovewing's lighter forehead spot rather than the lineage darker spot.
BRISTLEFROST - I like to imagine Bristlefrost with a thicker, bulkier build like her dad. Some similar nose/forehead pattern and hair as Ivy
ROOTSPRING - similar ears and eye shape to Violetshine. Wanted "yellow tabby" to be distinct from Lion's golden or Thunder's ginger. Want his tabby pattern to be kinda pretty and dappled and wavy. maybe ticked tabby while Tree isn't.
FROSTPAW - colour point, some diamond-shaped speckles/point pattern. Longer, curling cheek fur from her mom.
NIGHTHEART - looks more like Larksong than Sparkpelt, but fuzzy chin is from Sparkpelt's side. not pictured on his chest are some faintly lighter shapes that can be interpreted as small flames/sparks or as shining star shapes.
SUNBEAM - also wanted to differentiate her from others to look unrelated. round chin, big radiating cheek fur. different tabby pattern. White is slightly assymetrical. Added the creamy bits to the brown tabby part because I noticed it on my own pet tabby cat and thought it was pretty.
TAWNYPELT - Tigerstar lineage tabby pattern with ginger. eyebrows are both two-coloured.
LEAFDAPPLE/STAR - brown and cream tabby. tabby patterns are leafy and elegant. ears end in a point, like some leaves (the first example I can think of are lilac leaves). eyebrows are also leaf-shaped. Wanted her warrior name -dapple to be evident in the design
MOONPAW - wanted a new shade of ginger for her. both eyes have rings of the other colour because it's cool lol. played around with different fur lengths, eye shape, ears... chimera of a ginger tabby and a tuxedo so she still kinda looks like a tortoiseshell but still clearly distinct enough to be interpreted as a sign from StarClan.

I saw on the cat genetics visual guide that you reblogged that it says Agouti Ticked cats are a/a instead of A/-. Which I didn't know before. I always thought Agouti Ticked cats were A/- and homozygous for Ticked. (or maybe the guide is just incorrect? Or maybe I just missed this bit of information)
Do you know the science behind that?
And does this apply to Abyssinians and Somalis as well? Or can they be either a/a or A/-. I've just always wondered what makes them so different from normal Ticked cats besides breeding. (I assumed homozygous for Ticked + breeding for those visual traits)
There's also the Singapura and I've seen Agouti Ticked Maine Coons.
I am obsessed with animal color genetics, (cats, dogs, rabbits, horses, foxes, crested geckos, etc) and I really like trying to figure out specifically what's going on in the background. So sorry for so many questions 😅. (I also adore your blog and the tournaments!)
No, the guide is wrong there then, ticked is definitely A/_. I didn't read it over this thoroughly, sorry.
I think you have the right idea about somalis and abyssinians, they are selected for certain polygenes that give them their characteristic warm coloration and fur texture.
Yes, ticked is present in many cat breeds, including those you listed, and several more. These black ticked tabby kittens are norwegian forest cats, for example:
Tumblr media
Haintrollen cattery
Ticked is the most 'dominant' (or epistatic, to be precise) tabby pattern, all the others can only manifest if the cat is a recessive homozygote for the ticked gene. But ticked cats still carry all the other tabby genes too, just don't express it.
Don't worry about the questions, i'm always happy to answer them 😸 and i'm glad you like the blog!

Crossed Paws, Book 1: Rising
The Characters of Crossed Paws
WOODCLAN
Territory: a small, overgrown area of a large coniferous forest
Prey: Cuckoos, woodpeckers, goldcrests, kingfishers, firecrests, greenfinches, green lizards, dormice, red squirrels
Dangers: Goshawks, ospreys, buzzards, red kites, long-eared owls, tawny owls, adders, badgers, bats, stoats, pine martens, foxes
Camp location: hidden in a ditch in a large, particularly overgrown forest grove
Current High Saint and Herald: Tumblestar and Brightfoot
Formerly known as the Clan of Rustling Trees, WoodClan was once celebrated for its warm hospitality and deep sense of pride. In their early days, they were renowned for their openness, forging strong bonds both within their ranks and with neighboring Clans. Their territory, characterized by the soft whispers of ancient trees, symbolized peace and shared history, where stories of ancestors were told with reverence, and newcomers were welcomed with genuine warmth. However, a series of betrayals, territorial disputes, and devastating losses gradually eroded this open-hearted nature, leaving deep scars on the Clan’s collective psyche.
Now known as WoodClan, they have become markedly more isolated, shunning the close connections they once valued in favor of self-reliance. Their pride has shifted inward, focusing on survival rather than alliances. This change in mentality has led to a state of hypervigilance, with constant suspicion of outsiders and a heightened alertness that permeates every aspect of their lives. The once vibrant spirit of the Clan has dimmed under the weight of caution, yet their isolation has fostered fierce independence, honing their skills to a razor’s edge. Despite the challenges, the memory of the Clan of Rustling Trees lingers, a reminder of what they once were and perhaps what they might strive to reclaim.

Greenwood Faction Cards - The Stormborn
Tumblr media
The Stormborn have always been regarded as the most unusual and strangest looking creatures of the forest with their long, plush tails and short but feathery ears. Compared to the other factions, it wouldn’t be hard to mistake them for being near completely defenseless with their fluffy tails and thick coats without horns or fins. The enemy who makes this mistake however will come to immensely regret it - for mixed within their long coats, sukeme of the Stormborn have long barbed quills that lay calmly against their skin. When feeling threatened, it’s not just their hackles that raise but these pointy, painful defenses.
These long quills start just before their hindlegs forming a sort of cloak over their rump, blanketing the top of their tails. Speaking of their tails, though plush and fluff; the underside of around half-way down is also laced in sharp quills and woe-betide any attacker who makes the mistake of trying to grab them by it. It’s recommended that if you are speared by their quills that you wait until a trained mender can attend to you and the subsequent bleeding.
Quills aside, the Stormborn tend to be various kinds of tabbies that hide them well in their dense forest homes. Tortoiseshells are equally common, finding their best luck when the leaves drop from the trees - their dappled pelts matching the fallen leaves sprinkling the forest floor. They sport powerful, muscular builds, large paws and broad faces - there are often whispers that due their founder showing the most repentance for The Spilling, the Souls were kinder to the Stormborn and left some of their Ancient power within them giving them more lion-like features.
--
Common Patterns - Mackerel/Ticked Tabbies, Tortoiseshells
Common Colors - Red, Brown, Black, Gold
-
Uncommon Patterns - Spotted/Classic Tabby, Torbie
Uncommon Colors - White, Silver, Ruddy
-
Rare Patterns - Colorpoint
Rare Colors - Cream, Blue (Cool Gray)
--
OVERALL TERRITORY
The Stormborn are settled in the primarily deciduous part of the Greenwood Canopy - while there are evergreen trees scattered throughout the forest, they are primarily found further north-west than the others. They are unanimously agreed to have the most frustrating territory for a newcomer to navigate - the ground level is completely covered with brackens and bushes, thick layers of moss coating the barks of trees and the twisting roots of their oaks. The branches are mostly interlocking, ensuring the ground is dappled with sunlight throughout the day; enhancing the camouflage provided by tortoiseshell pelts.
Though visitors complain about the confusion turning them in circles, the Stormborn themselves can easily navigate their territory. From early training, cadets are brought through a series of routes to different important locations in their territory that escalates into leaving the cadet in specific locations with orders to get as quickly to a different location as possible. By the time a legionary earns their true name, they’ve mastered and memorized every leaf and bramble in their forest.
They proudly boast that their territory always looks gorgeous - in makiim (summer), the branches are a vibrant green with beautiful blossoming flowers and juicy fruits; in ahaliim (autumn) the ground is dappled in leaves of many colors - gold, red, orange and brown; in ilkiim (spring) the buds wave in the wind as freshly born animals scamper about their territory, little puddles of water twinkling in the sunlight. Even dahiim is beautiful - the ground sparking with white snow, icicles dangling from branches and frozen bonds providing windows into the waters.
Notable Landmarks:
The Old Basin - An old hollow full of soft, warm pink-ish red sand that used to be filled with water once upon a time when the river was wider. Eventually the water drained away leaving the smoothed sand and silt from the river. The Stormborn have many theories about the Old Basin - some say that Sunsoul dried up half of the river and Treesoul took what remained and used it to nurture the surrounding trees given how rich and tall the trees around the Basin are. Others say Riversoul reached down and rerouted the river like he did with the part around the Suncairn.
The Neutral Stretch - A large stretch of fertile territory popular with prey of all kind. Politically the land belongs to the Shining Sun - lost during The Raids started by The Mad Storm - and is frequently used to train squires and as a dumping ground for excess seed. The scarred trees mark the divide between the Stretch and solid Shining Sun Territory. This little bit of land has saved the Stormborn many times over during hard times as the dumping of seeds keeps prey animals coming back even during the snow-season.
The Suncairn - A massive collecting of rock outcroppings that are surrounded by a well-drained patch of land on the edge of the deciduous forest that led out to the main river. It seems like the rocks were once large buried deep beneath the river and for whatever reason, were pushed to the surface before being smoothed down by the river’s current. For a long time, the river flowed around the Suncairn preventing anyone but the swimming Shorerisen from accessing it but then slowly, over-time the river-rerouted. The Suncairn has been a place of bloodshed, outrage and conflict ever since as the Stormborn and the Shorerisen fight over the valuable land.
The Boa’s Sarsen - A large collection of somewhat jagged rocks slated together in a way that resembles a coiled snake, creating a series of nooks and hidey-holes that are inhabited by largest collection of blackwhips. The Sarsen is religously significant to the Fennyield, though because it was a Storm cat that was their goddess Hakassebera’s friend; the Storms retain the territory on their own land. Occasionally there have been conversations about officially handing the location over but it remains a popular spot for Fenns and Storms to speak with each other peacefully, especially as cadets.
The Deer Trail - A long since trotted down section of territory that marks the border between the Fennyield and the Stormborn. Deer and wild-boar and even wild horses have long-since trampled the grasses down into a firm trail of dirt, pressing the pebbles and stones deeper into the earth. Almost nothing grows on the trail anymore both because of how long it’s been used but also because the Storms and the Fenns both made dedicated efforts to maintain the easily seen border. The Deer Trail is a dangerous place in ilkiim (when the wild boar return and hae their piglets, becoming hostile to everything with a pulse) and in ahaliim (when stags are in rut and begin fighting each other).
Temekur’s Oak - The tallest stretching oak-tree in the Storm’s territory that hosts a permanent owl’s nest. Generation after generation of owl has been raised in and buried around that tree all stemming from the first, very intelligent owl to scamper from its branches. Said to be the home of Temekur, the owl who saved the Stormborn from a truly terrible famine and the place where the fallen owl was buried and made a god. The Stormborn occasionally leave offerings of prey at the base of the tree that the owls have come to accept, and the hunters are all taught a special tune to use in dahiim that signals to the owls that their cat friends need their help once more.
The Prisoner’s Barracks - An open clearing in Stormborn territory that brushes against firmly packed and dense soil guarded very heavily by the thickest thorns and brambles the forest has to offer. It’s a well-defended and hard to access place - which of course is exactly why the Storms have turned it into a prison. Proponents of mercy and firmly against executions, the Stormborn are the only faction to regularly keep prisoners enclosed within their territory and are the only faction period to have a set of regulations dedicated to managing them. Even those who’ve been imprisoned in the barracks don’t know where it is in Stormborn territory as they are usually blindfolded in some way when they’re led out. To the outside, it appears to be the average tangle of plants, brackens and vines.
Treesoul’s Ravine - A sloped valley sort of area surrounded by some of the strongest, healthiest looking trees in the forest that opens out into a little meadow type area. The largest stream in Stormborn territory runs through the Ravine, creating a little pond against a hilly-edge; the area littered with brilliant green brush and a variety of berries. Treesoul’s Ravine is the most popular burial location for the Stormborn, a vast majority of the faction have requests to specifically be buried in special locations of the Ravine. BATTLE TACTICS
Contrary to what many will say, they don’t love battle nor are they battle-hungry, their warnings and cautions are just that - warnings though the other factions have been known to take them as challenges.
The Stormborn prefer to end battles as quickly as possible, minimizing the amount of suffering either side goes through and as such, typically target who they deem to be battle-leaders and second in commands. Demoralizing the enemy is plays along well with this trait of theirs - a signature tactic of theirs are Brush Rushes. The thick, dense brush of their territory can safely hide even the largest of their legionaries well enough that a patrol of Stormborn cats can follow invaders for hours without the invaders themselves noticing.
Naturally this has been worked into a battle advantage. When the Stormborn feel that a patrol has overstayed their welcome, they rush from the bushes and attack hard and fast with the goal of disorienting their enemy before retreating as quickly as they arrived. The break in attack is an offering - telling the enemy to return to where they came from. If this offerring is not respected, they will be rushed again - this time with the intent of dealing painful, lasting injuries. The rushes will continue until the enemy retreats or until the Storms declare an outright battle and summon reinforcements.
Recognizable Tactics:
Tail Tucking - The Stormborn have sharp, painful barbed quills lining their hindquarters and tails. When an enemy attempts to attack them from behind, they tuck the soft underside of their tails to their bellies and bristle their spines; impaling those who would attempt an ambush
Land Grapple - It’s rare that someone wants to keep their enemy close-by hence this being a very recognizable Stormborn tactic. Grasping the opponent by their shoulders either from above or below, hold tight; forcing them to either rip their fur free or stay for a pummeling. They will snap at their enemy’s face and ears while using their hindlegs to shred them. The enemy is only released when they express surrender.
CULTURAL VALUES
> The Maternal Bond should always be respected and harshly punished if ever abused
> There is incredible bravery in honesty - a legionary should always be confident in their actions; regardless of the consequences
> Though there are four factions, there is only one Empire and when one is in need; the other three should be honor-bound to assist
HOLIDAYS
The Last Snow -
QUIRKS
A legionary having relations within another faction will say they’re ‘patrolling’ as a way of being discreet about their relationship. It’s more noticeable if the reasoning is claimed after high-sun, when the Storms are mostly at rest
Though barracks tasks are common punishments for misbehaving cubs, any of them can be picked up by anyone. Cubs who take a liking to a specific task are encouraged to keep at it.
Temekur’s Oak has a series of increasingly higher notches from cadets challenging each other to climb. Legionaries will brag moons after promotions about taking the highest marks
The Stormborn tend to come out during rainstorms to let a few drops of water hit them. It’s said that you can receive omens from the blurry vision granted when rain hits your face
The Storms are the closest to omnivorous as you get in the Empire, it’s not uncommon to catch them snacking on berries of all sorts throughout the day; preserving prey for actual meals

A Forceful Reminder
Summary - an insecure, chubby girl gets forced to face her beauty
➤ Pairing - gxg ➤ Length - 3k
➤ Content Warning - dubcon, body image issues
"Tabby, you simply have to come!" Her coworker and close friend of three years said as she stirred her black, sugarless tea. "I can't go to the wedding alone."
Tabitha tried to smile. "Liz, why don't you take your boyfriend?"
"Apparently he'll be working on that weekend," Liz sighed, running a hand through her short black pixie cut. "Asshole. I think we're coasting towards a breakup but at this point, I don't really care. The sex isn't that good either."
Tabitha bit her lip and added more sugar to her cup of instant coffee and immediately regretted it. She couldn't dump it back in the packet, so she miserably added hot water and watched the fragrant steam rise.
"What about you?" Liz asked, turning sideways so she could squeeze past Tabitha to reach the microwave to heat up her croissant.
Her body brushed against Tabitha, causing her to jump slightly. The kitchenette was small and everyone seemed to complain about it, but no one actually had a problem with moving around till Tabitha was in there too. Her coworkers were all very professional and didn't even seem to notice her size, but Tabitha was so self-conscious that they might as well have been eyeing her constantly and making remarks.
"Tabby?" Liz nudged her.
"Oh! Um, what was the question?" Tabitha asked, pushing a strand of curly brown hair behind her ear.
"Are you seeing anyone? Fucking anyone?" Liz's lips pulled up into a mischievous grin.
Tabitha's face went warm and she hurriedly lifted the mug of coffee to her face to try and hide the blush. The coffee burned her tongue as she sipped it.
"Um... Well," Tabitha fumbled, mortified.
Did Liz know she was still a virgin at twenty-four? What was she going to say? She wasn't good at lying either, so that was off the table. Her perceptive friend would see right through her.
Liz flapped her hand like she was shooing the question out of the air.
"Oh, sorry Tabby. That's a rather personal question, isn't it? I forget myself sometimes."
"It's okay," Tabitha said quietly, and she gladly let Liz prattle on about the wedding, which people would be there, and what the hell she was going to wear because she didn't own any dresses.
"Oof, I forgot I have to make some document copies for the Big Guy," Liz said, gulping down the rest of her tea. "I think I'm close to a promotion, so I have to keep up my pace."
Tabitha glanced at her, admiring the way her white blouse clung to her small, firm breasts and smoothed over her slender stomach. Liz did yoga three times a week and lifted weights at the gym as well. Her body was strong and muscular, bordering on masculine. Liz was glorious to look at. Tabitha was terrified of going to the gym. People would laugh at her. Well, maybe they wouldn't but Tabitha would rather die than risk the chance. Her mother's voice still haunted her. The last time she and her mother had talked on the phone her mother had said,
"Have you lost some weight, my dear? You need to drop some of the pounds. No man would like to marry a whale and as you know, the clock is ticking!"
And then her mother laughed like it was a great joke and hung up. Tabitha had cried, curled up in her bed. She felt so, so helpless. Her mother was right, she needed to at least try. But the task seemed so daunting, and every attempt in the past had only led to binging and more weight gain.
"Lost in your thoughts again?" Liz said.
Tabitha's eyes zeroed in on her friend. "Sorry," she said.
"You have nothing to apologize for!" Liz laughed. "How about we go shopping for dresses together after work? The stores will still be open."
"I... I don't know," Tabitha said. "I've never been to a wedding."
"It'll be fine," Liz said and put a finger under Tabitha's chin. "Please. Come on, give me a smile."
Tabitha pulled her lips into something of a grimace, and Liz shook her head in amusement.
"Okay, I gotta run. I'll see you later?" Liz said before leaving.
Tabitha swallowed hard. She could still feel the lingering sensation of Liz's touch. It reminded her that she had a crush on her friend, and she hated it. Fat girls were never so lucky as to find love, that was what she had been told and despite herself- believed. Besides that, Liz had a boyfriend and was probably straight. Tabitha shook her head to herself and took her coffee to her desk. She had to stop thinking about it.
A few hours later, she was working on her laptop when a voice said,
"Well, you definitely need some shopping therapy!"
"What?" Tabitha looked up to see Liz leaning against her desk with both hands.
The band of her ID card was nestled between her breasts, the tops of her small breasts visible as she leaned down to look at her friend. She had a small mole on the swell of her left breast. Tabitha's eyes shot back up nervously but if Liz had noticed her staring, she didn't say anything about it.
"Shopping," Liz said. "You know work hours were officially over twenty minutes ago?"
"I was, um, just trying to squeeze some more work in," Tabitha replied.
"You came to work with the bus, right? Let's take my car," Liz said.
They took the elevator down together. They were some of the last people in the building, so they were alone in the elevator. Liz sighed and rolled her sleeves, showcasing a tattoo on her forearm. Tabitha sucked in a breath.
"I didn't know you had that!" She said. "Since when?"
Liz cracked a grin. "A few weeks ago. Sexy, right?"
"Yeah," Tabitha agreed.
The elevator dinged, and they stepped out. Tabitha took a deep breath of the crisp air, berating herself mentally. Wasn't she making her attraction too obvious? Did Liz know and she was just too nice to say anything about it?
She would probably never know.
For all of Liz's excitement to go shopping, the woman seemed a little lost as they stepped into one of the stores.
"I've got to be real with you, I've never worn a dress before in my life," she said.
"Really?" Tabitha laughed. "Well, you do have a tomboy sort of vibe."
"Yep. Unfortunately for my parents, I never grew out of it," Liz smirked. "Let's quickly pick something out for me, and then we can spend more time looking for something for you."
"Oh, anything will do," Tabitha said hastily.
"No," Liz said, fixing her with a look. "I want your dress to be as radiant as you. It's got to match."
Tabitha's eyes widened and she laughed nervously. "R-radiant like me?"
"Yeah," Liz didn't seem to think much of her compliment, but Tabitha was freaking out inside.
That was the nicest thing anyone had ever said to her. Liz held a blue dress up against her chest.
"What do you think?"
"It looks nice, but I think you'll look even better in green," Tabitha said.
"Aha, this one is green," Liz said, pulling another dress off the rack. "Damn, look at that low back. Everyone is going to see how muscular my back is. My parents will throw a fit."
"Your parents are going to be there too?" Tabitha asked, touching the silky material of the dress.
She remembered that Liz didn't get along too well with her strict, religious parents.
"Yeah. And they hate me looking too manly. Prissy bitches," Liz grumbled sourly.
"I think you'd look great in it," Tabitha said.
Liz's eyes lit up. "You do, huh? Let me try the dress on and we'll see what you think then."
When Liz stepped out of the changing room and twirled, Tabitha's mouth dropped open.
"Wow," she said. "You weren't kidding about being muscular."
Liz flexed her back, and Tabitha burst out laughing.
"Stop it," she grinned and then sobered up. "But really, the dress fits you so nicely."
"I agree. I'll buy this one," Liz said decisively. "Your turn!"
Liz had really meant what she said about spending more time on her. They went through several dresses until Liz picked out a peach-colored one with a plunging neckline.
"You have to try this one on!"
"Really?" Tabitha said hesitantly.
She didn't like showing much skin. Her breasts had stretch marks, and this dress would show that. But she didn't want to disappoint her friend, so she stepped into the changing room to at least try it on. It fit like a glove, delighting Tabitha. The only problem was that she couldn't pull the zipper up on her own.
"Um, Liz?" She squeaked. "I can't get the zipper up."
"I'll help you. Can I come in?"
Tabitha opened the door and Liz stepped in. The changing room could fit one person comfortably, but with two of them in there, they were practically up against each other. Tabitha turned her back slowly, unhappy about Liz seeing her back rolls. Liz grabbed the zipper and was about to pull it up when Tabitha blurted out,
"I'm sorry."
"What for?" Liz paused, looking at her in the mirror.
"Um," Tabitha said. "For having to see me sort of naked?"
Liz sighed, and her hands dropped. "Tabitha..."
Hearing a note of unhappiness in her friend's voice, Tabitha hurried to undo the damage.
"Sorry for ruining the mood," she said. "I shouldn't have said anything."
"You know... I see the way you treat yourself," Liz said slowly. "And I think that's a shame. You're so self-conscious about your body that you're blinded to your beauty, Tabitha."
"H-huh?" Tabitha stammered, staring at Liz in the mirror.
The front of the dress began to droop, so she quickly held it up.
"What are you talking about?" Tabitha said.
"You're beautiful. You're so damn pretty, and you can't or won't see it," Liz said quietly.
"I'm not," Tabitha sighed. "You don't have to try and make me feel better, Liz."
"I'm not. I guess I'm just tired of keeping my thoughts to myself," Liz said.
Instead of zipping up the dress, she put her hands on Tabitha's hips and pulled her back against her body. Tabitha went very still, flushing hot and cold with confusion.
"What are you doing?" Tabitha murmured, her eyes wide with shock, breath catching in her throat.
"Trying to convince you to see what I see," Liz said, her lips very close to Tabitha's neck.
Goosebumps covered Tabitha's arms. "Liz... You have a boyfriend."
"Not anymore, actually," Liz smirked. "I broke up with him over a text message."
"That's... Kind of horrible," Tabitha said.
"He deserved it," Liz said.
One of her hands came up and yanked on the front of the dress, pulling it out of Tabitha's hands. It dropped, exposing her large breasts which were clad in a red bra.
"Liz!" Tabitha gasped, trying not to be too loud.
"Look at yourself, Tabby," Liz said.
Tabitha turned her head away with a defiant huff. The chubby woman was not expecting her friend to grab her jaw and force her to look back at the mirror. Tabitha's eyes were wide, pupils dilated. Her body trembled.
"Liz, please stop," she whimpered.
"Why should I? I know you think I'm attractive, Tabby. I'm just returning the favor," Liz whispered in her ear.
Liz's voice had become deep and rough, almost unrecognizable. Tabitha bit down on her lip to stifle a cry of surprise when Liz cupped her bra-clad breasts with her hands.
"You have such nice tits, you know. Shame that you're always hiding them," Liz said.
Even though Tabitha felt vulnerable and stripped naked of her pride, she didn't stop her friend from groping her breasts. A small whimper of shame escaped her lips and she said,
"They look like overbaked muffins. They're always spilling out."
Liz let out a small laugh.
"You're just too good for me to let you slip out of my fingers, Tabby. And since you refuse to see the good side of yourself, I'm going to make you."
"What are you even talking about-" Tabitha shuddered when Liz yanked the bra cups down, letting her breasts spill out.
Neither of them could pretend this wasn't happening anymore. Nor could they just stop and carry on shopping like normal. Things could never be normal between them ever again. Tabitha's mouth popped open as she stared at her breasts. Her nipples were so hard that they tingled. There was no denying she was aroused, even though she shouldn't be.
Liz was kind of forcing this onto her.
"Look at you," Liz purred, her hands coming up and gripping Tabitha's breasts, her index fingers circling over her nipples.
Liz's hands looked even more manly from this angle. Honestly, she had nice-looking arms. She was quite a bit taller, having to lean down slightly. Tabitha had to grab the bar on the wall where clothes could be hung to stay upright as her legs wobbled. They were both breathing hard in the tiny space, staring at each other in the mirror. Liz's expression was all hard, hungry angles now. Tabitha had to slap her hand against her mouth to muffle her squeal when Liz lowered her head and bit her shoulder gently, soothing it away with a kiss.
"So soft," Liz said, and for probably the first time in her life, Tabitha felt good about that word.
Her lips parted, her mind battling whether she should tell Liz to stop or not. Liz released her breast, smoothing her hands over Tabitha's belly.
"Let's get you out of this dress," Liz said, pushing it down over her hips. "It looks great on you by the way."
"T-thank you?" Tabitha replied, cringing as the dress finally came down and she was left in her matching bra and panties.
Liz draped the dress over the bar and put her arms around Tabitha again, holding her close.
For a moment they just stood together and looked. Tabitha hadn't looked at herself in a full-length mirror in months and she found herself staring critically at her body. Was Liz really telling the truth? Did she like her like this? Soft folds on her belly and thighs that didn't have a gap between them? Tabitha snapped out of her thoughts when Liz cupped her breasts again.
"I like big tits," Liz said. "You know, not many people know that I'm bisexual. My parents would kill me if they knew. It's our secret, right?"
"Yes... Okay." Tabitha gulped.
Liz grinned, and one of her hands snuck over Tabitha's soft stomach, moving downwards.
"Wait!" Tabitha yelped. "Wait..."
"Shhh!" Liz hissed back. "We don't want anyone to hear you now, do we?"
Tabitha could only whimper in response as Liz pushed her hand into her underwear. Her finger slid through her soft curls, brushing against her clit and labia which was warm and slippery, telling her all she needed to know. Tabitha's face went bright red as Liz laughed softly.
Liz curled her finger and rubbed it gently against her clit and Tabitha jumped like she had been electrocuted as hot pleasure raced through her. Conflicted, she grabbed Liz's wrist, though her hand refused to do more than that. After a mocking pause, Liz continued her ministrations. It was embarrassingly obvious that even if Tabitha was having second thoughts, her body was all for it.
She closed her eyes and tried not to make any noise as Liz rubbed her clit with one hand and played with her breast with the other, pinching her nipple.
"I can't wait to do this again someplace private," Liz said. "I want to hear all the cute sounds you make."
Her words were rewarded by even more slickness from between Tabitha's legs, and she grinned.
"You like the idea of a next time," Liz said triumphantly. "You like this."
"No," Tabitha lied.
Liz paused, and Tabitha's eyes flew open.
"I guess I've failed then," Liz said offhandedly. "We can buy the dresses and go."
Tabitha bit her lip. All she wanted to do was ask Liz to continue, but now that she had her focus back, she felt painfully vulnerable. She was reaching for the dress when Liz grabbed her wrist and pulled her around.
"I don't think so," Liz said. "I'm not giving up on you that easily."
Tabitha sucked in a breath when Liz's hand dipped between her legs again, teasing her. This time, she kept her damn mouth shut. Tabitha stared up at Liz's face, wondering if this counted as consensual or not. She wasn't saying no. At least, not anymore.
"Stop thinking," Liz said. "You're ruining your orgasm."
Tabitha blushed. "I can't tell if I'm going to hate you for this or not," she confessed.
"If I didn't think this was worth potentially ruining our friendship I wouldn't be doing it," Liz retorted.
The situation was so confusing and arousing and Liz looked dead serious even with her hand between Tabitha's legs. She couldn't help it, she giggled and looked away. Liz caught her jaw and made her look up at her. The woman stared down into her eyes, catching each tiny cue as she finally slid two fingers inside.
Tabitha leaned forward and pressed her mouth against Liz's shoulder to muffle her moan. It felt so good to have someone else touch her for a change. Her hips twitched, pressing her pussy harder against her friend's fingers, begging for more.
"You are so fucking tight," Liz murmured breathlessly.
Because I'm technically a virgin who barely masturbates, Tabitha thought silently.
She gripped Liz's shirt and said,
"Please, Liz. More."
Liz gave her exactly what she asked for, squeezing a third finger in while her thumb tapped and rubbed Tabitha's clit, a combination that had her legs trembling with pleasure. When she climaxed she couldn't help the cry she let out, partially muffled against her friend's shoulder. Liz pulled her fingers out, her eyes heated as she leaned against the wall. Keeping eye contact with Tabitha, she sucked her fingers clean, taking her time, as if she was savoring the taste.
Tabitha pulled her clothes on silently. When they exited the changing room, an employee was standing nearby with a suspicious look on his face. Tabitha paid for her dress first and hurried out of the shop, leaving Liz behind. Once she was out of the store, she began to jog. She needed to get away and think. She didn't remember the last time she'd been this active.
It actually felt good.
But... How was she going to face her friend now?

hey, so my brother sent me this person's cat online and was wondering why it was cross-eyed. i've learned a lot of info from you so i tried my hand at guessing, but i don't want to believe what i said just because i think it's right.
Tumblr media
i told my brother the cat in question looks to me like a tabby x ragdoll mix. i know ragdolls are commonly seen with higher chances of cross-eyes, and when i tried to search 'ragdoll tabby' i only got them mixed, not the pattern itself.
i brought up how the weird white patch on the cat's muzzle could be coming from the ragdoll's side, and the pointed out that the [from what it looks to me] shorter fur and less puffy build could be the tabby.
here's some more pictures of the cat [again this cat isn't either of ours so i can only send what i can find. however the cat owner is softwilly on social media]
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
regardless if you end up helping me with this i do appreciate what you do as i've learned SO much about cat genetics through your page and being a cat lover it's like a treasure trove of cat education! have a good day/night :]
Hey, I’m glad you enjoy the blog! I like your icon, hyenas are awesome.
So “tabby” is not a breed, it’s a pattern. That feels like a good place to start!
Our adorable little house cats were once upon a time descended from the African Wildcat, so the default/wild-type appearance before all of the mutations and breeds and such came into play would resemble this ancestor.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Talk about family resemblance!
The Domestic Cat on the top [source] is a shorthair black tabby, closely resembling the phenotype of the African Wildcat on the bottom [source].
A mutation on the agouti (tabby) gene causing an increase in the production of black pigment is where out solid colored cats come from.
UC Davis page on Agouti
Due to other genes which determine and influence the presentation of the tabby pattern we have quite a few tabby options now. To keep it simple these are primarily mackerel, spotted, classic and ticked but can be modified even further the more genes we add in (bengal modifier, wide band, etc).
Since tabby is the original flavor cat the majority of stray/feral cats you encounter will be sole flavor of tabby but various types of tabby patterns are permitted in many, many, many different breeds.
The white smudge on the face as well as the bib and mittens are due to one of several mutations on the KIT gene. These mutations are very common in domestic animals which is why piebald patterning is so widespread in domestic varieties but rare uncommon in wild specimens.
UC Davis page of Dominant White & White Spotting
So although this is a mutation and not part of default settings it, like solid cats, is incredibly common to find cats with white markings in the wider stray/feral population as well as in a huge variety of cat breeds.
Tumblr media
Here is a black tabby point Ragdoll with white mittens [source].
The distinctive masked pattern is caused by mutation which effects pigmentation, ranging from being fully normally colored (wild type) to albinism. In between this range we have colorpoint, mink, sepia and most recently mocha… but I’m only going to discuss colorpoint right now.
The colorpoint pattern is a form of albinism influenced by body temperature, turning the cat into a living heat map. Pigment is turned off in warm areas and is produced normally in cool areas, such as the extremities. So if you peeled the colorpoint off of this Ragdoll they’d look a lot more similar to the cat you’re sharing!
UC Davis page on Colorpoint Restriction
This is another mutation notably absent from our default wild-type and is a little less common than solid or white-spotted but still pretty well distributed throughout the stray/feral population as well as being accepted in many breeds.
Unfortunately there seems to be a higher incidence of strabismus (cross-eyed) in pointed cats than those with full color expression, not just Ragdolls. Nystagmus (involuntary eye movements) is also unfortunately common, which @the-adventures-of-dave’s Kepler (Bengal) has.
But pointed cats don’t have a monopoly on these problems! There are plenty of pointed cats without eye problems and there are plenty of full expression cats with eye problems. Sometimes cats are just cross-eyed, just like how sometimes people are just cross-eyed.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The truth is most cats aren’t any breed or a mix of any breeds, they’re just… cats!
Cats and cat breeds aren’t all that similar to dogs and dog breeds. Cat breeds are a relatively new occurrence, often have allowable outcross with other breeds, and comprise a miniscule portion of the overall feline population.
Pedigree, Purebred, Mixed Breed, Random-bred - What’s the Difference?
What’s the Breed of Your Cat?
So this is all a very long way to say that the very dashing cat you shared is most likely a black tabby Domestic Longhair with white spotting and the strabismus is likely unrelated.

The second clowder in my Australian warrior cats story! (designs and names subject to change)
Mountain Clowder cats are strong: dense fur, long, strong legs, and clear minds. They have a reputation for being self-absorbed and bossy, but good-hearted. Their members are usually greys or browns and have low amounts of white, if any.
They have large paws and long legs, which allows them to easily scale the steep sides of their mountain homesite. They live at the top of the mountain the Clowders call home and consider themselves closer to the Cloud Steppers. They sleep outside, in warm piles of cats. Friends and family often sleep in the same pile.
They despise Stone Clowder, they used to be a part of Mountain Clowder, before splitting off, renaming themselves Cloud Clowder, and then fleeing and renaming themselves (again) Stone Clowder.
Their fighting style involves speed. They dart in, land a few blows, and then dart out. They are trained in where to hit an opponent in order to hurt them the most. They maintain a few hunting trails they walk along and try to avoid overhunting one area.
They use hunting trails to trap game. They are the only Clowder to hunt kangaroos and succeed, giving them a grudging respect by other Clowders.

Snippets: Do You Have a Moment?
Word Count: 890
Characters: Cicadafur, Boulderpelt, Nightpool, Peakclaw
Some warrior enjoy the greenleaf sun. A relationship is blossoming in RidgeClan, to the chagrin of the Clan’s resident loud-mouth.
—————
Cicadafur rested in the light of the greenleaf sun, pale fur soaking up the heat. Her head laid on Boulderpelt’s flank, the other tom gazing at her curiously.
She hadn’t asked before she laid upon him. She had returned from a hunting patrol, set her freshkill on the pile, and then flopped on top of Boulderpelt, who had already been enjoying the sun. He hadn’t twitched his leg or opened his mouth to scold her; in fact, he moved his tail to lay it over her exposed stomach, though he looked quite confused.
She tilted her head to look directly at him. His face looked quite silly at this angle, and she let out a titter of laughter, using a paw to bop his nose. She could feel Boulderpelt wrinkle his face in surprise beneath her paw, which caused her to laugh more.
“Your face is broad. Like a rock. I like it.” She twirled her tail around in excitement.
“Oh- I like your face too.”
“What about it do you like?” She mewed.
“Your snout.” He put a paw on her nose like she did to him. “It’s thin, kind of like a fox’s.”
She brought two paws up to feel the shape of her muzzle. “It does? I hadn’t noticed.”
From somewhere nearby, Peakclaw growled, “This is the worst flirting I’ve ever been subjected to.”
Cicadafur didn’t even turn to look at him as she said, “I’ve heard you composing a poem for Brindlecloud at night.”
“It’s a tradition in BoulderClan!” Came the defensive reply. “What would you know about romance anyway? You said Boulderpelt looked like a rock!”
       Boulderpelt’s ears lowered with embarrassment.
“What’s wrong with rocks? They’re warm and nice to lay on.” She nuzzled further into Boulderpelt’s flank. The red tabby tom seemed surprised but flattered, tail curling around her more tightly.
“They’re also boring and thoughtless, so I guess quite fitting for Boulderpelt.” There was a rustle of short grass as Peakclaw sculked away.
Boulderpelt sighed, glancing at where Peakclaw had been. “He’s worse than a snake with a toothache.”
      Cicadafur hummed in agreement.
“Sorry to interrupt, but Cicadafur, do you have a moment?” A soft, elderly voice asked. Cicadafur lifted her head to see Nightpool. The black molly sat down in the grass. “I’ve got a tick on my back that I can’t reach. I’d ask Peakclaw to help but…” She trailed off, glancing to where Peakclaw was observing the sky, presumably thinking of more lines to his love poem.
Cicadafur stood up, shaking a bit of dust off her fur. “Of course I can help Nightpool.” To Boulderpelt she said, “I’ll only be gone for a few whisker twitches.”
She walked away with Nightpool towards the medicine cat den but made sure to run her tail underneath Boulderpelt’s chin as she passed by him. The elderly molly purred with amusement, “When can I expect kits?”
Cicadafur tilted her head in consideration. “You probably won’t be alive to see them,” She answered.
Nightpool flicked her tail. “A simple ‘not anytime soon’ would suffice.”
      “Yes, that.”
“Don’t mind Peakclaw by the way, my dear. He’s jealous that other cats have mates when he’s been pining for moons.”
“Did he tell you that?” Cicadafur padded into the cave that constituted the medicine cat den, easily located the mice set aside to have bile harvested from. She collected the bike with a wad of moss, and Nightpool turned her back to Cicadafur.
“He doesn’t have to. He reminds me of my old mate, Tigerfur. He acted like such a mousebrain around other cats but sweet as a songbird to me.”
Cicadafur could see where the tick was. Nightpool’s fur was thin with age, and the swollen lump was difficult to miss. She pressed the bile to it and then tossed the moss ball towards the far end of the den. Lightfur could deal with it later.
“I’m glad Boulderpelt isn’t mousebrained like Peakclaw.”
“Oh but how would you know? When a tom gets around a molly he fancies, he can become an entirely different cat.”
Cicadafur considered that for a moment. What if Boulderpelt was just like Peakclaw, a total fox-heart to every cat except her? Her ears flattened. She liked Boulderpelt because he was serious, considerate, and never said no to her. If he was the opposite… Her tail bristled just thinking about it.
“I don’t think so,” She meowed slowly. “I think I would know.”
Nightpool shrugged. “That might be true. You have better intuition than most cats.
The tick, suffocated by the bile, fell off. Cicadafur pierced it with a claw. “Tick is gone.”
      “Thank you, dear.”
“You’re welcome, Nightpool.” Cicadafur made her way to leave but paused at the entrance. “And thank you for the talk. It was… insightful.”
“Why, it’s no problem at all. I’ve gathered all this wisdom; I might as well share it.”
Cicadafur nodded. She could see Boulderpelt, still laying the same way he was when she was laying on him, staring off into open air while waiting for her to return. He was a bit mousebrained, Cicadafur acquiesced, but she didn’t think he was as two-faced as Peakclaw.
She trotted over to him and flopped atop him, this time a bit closer to his face. She could feel his pelt flush beneath her. “So, where were we?”

Sphynx Cat Personality, Price, Adoption, And Special Profile
The Sphynx cat, also known as the Canadian Sphynx, is a breed of cat known for its lack of fur. Hair loss in cats (HairLess Cat) is a naturally occurring genetic mutation, and the Sphynx was developed through selective breeding of these animals, which began in the 1960s.
According to breed standards, the skin should have the texture of chamois leather, as it has fine hairs, or the cat may be completely hairless. Whiskers may be present, either whole or broken, or may be absent altogether.
Cats have narrow, long heads and webbed feet. Their skin is the color their fur will be, and all the normal cat markings can be found on the skin of a Sphynx cat.
Because they have no fur, Sphynx cats lose body heat more easily than coated cats, making them both warm to the touch and prone to seeking hot spots.
