Was thinking about how eye-pocalypse avatars were dealt with after the fact (and how all that is described in tmagp) and it got me thinking about unwilling avatars, namely Jordan Kennedy (the exterminator guy trapped in ant hell that jon ..... "saves"). Assuming that we get to hear more about the post-200 archives universe (which i think we will considering there are some things that were left out in Georgie/Melanie's first description of it to Sam that would be very pertinent to what's happening now), it would be really interesting to either hear about/hear directly from Jordan. Because where would he go from there? Did everybody in the domains hate him too? Does he hate himself for it? Is he involved with the efforts going on in London now or has he tried to disappear and forget? Given the longevity of his character in tma and the fact that he's a unique case that we never really got to hear the proper "end" of, I wouldn't be surprised if he's at the very least mentioned again

Recap Notes: MAGP 12 "Getting Off"
Tumblr media
Spoiler Warning: this is a purely selfish exercise in remembering what the hell happened last season (from someone caught up thru MAGP32, 3/6/2025 & all of The Magnus Archives). No promises I'll keep up with it.
Summary: Bonzo! Bonzo! Bonzo! Oh, and Sam is done with Magnus stuff, apparently. Pfft.
Casement: CAT1RB4728-09032024-13032024
Alice being the MOST ok with Sam & Celia is oof. As for Celia, It's a stretch, because we know she's busy with the whole sleepwalking to Oxford thing going on, but just pointing out that she pivots pretty quickly from hesitancy to agreeing to meet Sam under the clock at Leicester Square for their first date. A 10 minute from Soho Jack's (where Bonzo goes for a bro buffet). Most likely London is London and things are bound to be close every now and again, but if Celia wanted to do a little freelance investigation, I'm just saying it'd be a convenient trip to hop over and check it out. That's all.
Otherwise, great showing from Bonzo. His chant "he wants to play, he wants to stay" does make me wonder if his whole monching deal is what keeps him able to manifest / stay in this world to do it. A trade, like the one Celia's gearing up to make. And still no closer to defining CAT1 but at least worth mentioning most of our classic monsters do seem to filter into there. Mowbray, Bonzo, Ink5oul, Needles, Rupert the demon child, etc. Don't think it's as easy as "inhuman", but something to watch.
“I dream about it most nights. In the dream it digs through all those men to get to me, grabbing fistfuls of them and throwing them to smash against the wall. The strobe fires as its hands plunge into the pile of us and each flash shows a little less flesh between me and it, between me and all those teeth… Finally everyone else is gone. I raise my arm to protect myself and it gently but inexorably lifts it into its mouth, smiles and bites.”
Haven't been paying too much attention to dreams in TMP, but I might retroactively look to see if there's anything there. Doubt it'd be the same mechanism as Jon's dream hopping after he feeds from TMA, but suppose I shouldn't throw the baby out with the bathwater just yet. In general, I hope the more this mystery unfolds the more it's it own thing. I like the homages, and of course adore the source material, but I think it's a much more compelling game to take what we think we know and twist. Part of the reason I never tried too hard to fit any of the early casements into Smirke's 14. We don't know the rules here. That's the joy of playing. I will also be keeping a lazy eye out for mention of a Barry, Basil or Sebastian. With Gwen's upper class contacts, and the way she keeps her cards close to her chest, I wouldn't put it past her having known Baz before he was on the menu. Feels like a real Lena move to test Gwen's mettle by having her be responsible for the death of someone she rubbed elbows with.
GWEN You never wonder what the point is? Who benefits from all this awfulness?
ALICE I don’t wonder. I know.
GWEN What? (sitting up) Really?
ALICE Oh yeah. (portentous) I’ve known for a while, what we’re doing here. It’s all part of a grand plan to satisfy one of the most unspeakable evils known to mankind…
[Gwen’s on the edge of her seat.]
ALICE (almost a whisper) …the UK government.
[GWEN sighs, sitting back]
GWEN Thanks, Alice. Utterly useless as always.
Hilarious, but Alice's probably not wrong. Again.

Both of Nicholas Meyer's Star Trek films (II and VI) are the ones where the budget was obviously slashed to barely nothing because their more expensive predecessors had underperformed, forcing the production team to use every single trick in Roger Corman's book to save money. Sets, costumes, models, and whole FX sequences from The Motion Picture were reused for Wrath of Khan, and the bulk of the movie was just shot on the same bridge set, which was used for the Enterprise and Reliant. Meanwhile The Undiscovered Country just used as many redressed Next Generation sets as it could.
Meyer made both films on B-movie budgets, yet still managed to make them feel bigger and grander than the expensive films that came before them.

Jonathan Sims ALIVE?? I Believe I Have Proof.
(Spoilers for The Magnus Protocol!)
You heard that right. And if you've listened to TMP 39 - Dependents, you've heard it too. Not only can I prove without the shadow of a doubt that not one, but two Archivists are roaming TMA's London, but I can also prove with spectrogram + phonetical analysis exactly what Jon is saying.
Let me prove it to you.
First, let's start with an unedited audio sample, taken at 16:30:
Did you catch it? If you didn't, I don't blame you. There's a lot happening here. Let's check the official transcript for more context about what we're hearing.
Tumblr media
So, what we're hearing is definitely the Archivist. It's evident that it's whispering something, but the specifics are currently hidden under layers of reverb, static, and tape winding. Let's clean it up a bit to get a better listen. I pitched the audio down 30%, reduced the background noise, and ran it through a few frequency filters to make the speech more prominent.
Oh.
Oh, shit.
Yeah, that's definitely Jon.
At the very least, we know this is obviously not Beth Eyre, who voices [ERROR]. Since the transcript states that this audio has to come from an Archivist, that really only leaves us with one other possibility.
But let's assume you still don't believe me. I took the liberty of isolating the vocals entirely and running them through a linguistics analysis programme called Praat (which is fantastic + free by the way!). This way, we can analyse the speech all the way down to the position of the Archivist's mouth when speaking.
Here's the new sample we're working with:
I admit, the speech is a tad more muffled in this version. However, the lack of background noise makes the spectrogram much easier to read, which is what we are aiming for here. We're far past the point of just using our ears.
Behold the Spectrogram:
Tumblr media
Looking at this diagram, we can conclude that there are four words being spoken here. (The second word is the gap in the middle part. Note the density shift at around 1000Hz. We know this word must be free of any sharp consonants.) More importantly, the formants provided can be compared to samples of Jon's RP dialect to determine if there's a match. If the frequencies match, it's the same voice. If we get the wavelengths to match, it's the same word.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Let's start with the first word. I'll skip the specifics, as explaining every minute detail would take forever and bore everyone to death. The left image was extracted from the spectrogram above. The right photo? That's Jon saying the word "this."
Note how both waveforms are split into two halves, low then high. Note how the high half trails off at the end. Take into account the similar placement of the red formants. This is the same word, pronounced in the exact same dialect, with the exact same frequency. It is Jon.
Let's do that again with the second word.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Again, the formants line up in the exact same order. The audio on the right is a bit louder, which is why the waveforms have a higher contrast.
What did this word happen to be? World.
Tumblr media
Here is the original spectrogram in Audacity. The two bright spots on the right-hand side are easy. It's the same sound as the end of the first word as well. (Notice the frequencies are the same.) These are an easy Letter S. I then fact-checked this using methods like before.
Finally, we have clear, undeniable proof:
"This world isn’t yours."
Edit: thank you to @thestrangepoet for correcting “is” to “isn’t!” The presence of the letter T was a bit inconclusive, but it makes so much more sense in this context.
Now, what does that actually mean? Well, he’s likely referring to Sam. The extent of what he actually knows I’m uncertain of. Feel free to theorise and let me know! I have an idea about how this affects the overall story, but that's a post for another day.
I furthermore checked every single instance [ERROR] spoke for occurrences like this, and what did I find? Nothing. There was a bit of whispering in TMP 10 that I couldn't manage to isolate, but the voice was definitely Beth Eyre's. The only other time an Archivist audibly appeared in this fashion was... Oh, Hello. The TMP series teaser with Jon and Martin. Brilliant.
Now I just have to hope that nothing gets debunked by tomorrow. I'm crossing my fingers, TMP 40.
Thank you to Rusty Quill for sending me down this rabbit hole! The details added to all corners of the production bring so much life to the Magnus mystery. I'm glad I could dig deep and analyse this - We love you!
