joel did so well, winning in a proper blaze of glory like that— so fitting, especially after losing gem, his anchor. and his alliance with grian in the end was Killing Me. grian plain-faced telling him "you could win this," and saying he will give his life to joel? grian telling him "it's your turn."

i can't wait to see what grian was thinking before that final fight. he just kind of disappeared while joel was on an absolute rampage. and when they met back up for the final fight, he was actually fighting against joel, contrary to what he said before. maybe he realized that he knows joel, and joel would never be happy with a sacrifice. maybe he knows that because he knows what sacrifice did to him, way back when.

so he decided to fight, for joel's sake, and maybe his own, too. and when he died, he died falling. just like 3rd life.

I’ve been rotating this group around in my head in like a group microwave session and they’ve been sufficiently reheated I think!! (the difference in time they took me is crazy like Scott and scar and Joel took me like five minutes to figure out their designs and palettes and everyone else wanted to fight me!! Especially martyn holy cow!!)
