Take the trope of Steve’s mom becoming better and returning to Steve and flip it and reverse.

Steve called his dad an asshole but it’s just because he might be a bit of a hard ass because he’s trying to teach Steve personal responsibility (which teenagers hate), Steve knows his dad cheated on his mom and that’s why she goes with him on business trips, and because his mom keeps lowkey indicating that his dad is to blame for everything and that manipulates Steve’s thoughts on the matter.

BUT.

Steve’s dad really does love Steve and only wants what’s best for him. Wants him to be self-sufficient and responsible and not rely on others because contrary to popular belief, it’s actually Steve’s MOM who holds the power. She comes from a well-respected family, she is the one respected in town, she is the one who was the “catch” of the marriage and she never lets her husband forget that.

Her husband doesn’t even have his own company, instead working for her father’s company—another reason why he wants Steve to be able to support himself and learn how to provide for himself. He’s not even upset that Steve didn’t want to work for him, but he’s determined for Steve not to be lazy and entitled.

And one of the reason Steve’s mom is so respected, besides the rumors that her husband slept with his secretary etc? Because she’s seen to be on the right side of politics. She’s conservative and a Reagan supporter, which is what you’re supposed to be in a small town like Hawkins.

And Steve’s dad? It wasn’t his secretary he cheated on his wife with, but another man.

Steve’s dad is secretly gay and married his wife for her family wealth and name, while she married him for his looks and because it would look like a good marriage as he was from a decent family and has business savvy, and all she really cares about are appearances. It’s why her house looks more like a catalogue than a home.

Maybe she knew he was gay when they got married, or maybe she didn’t. Maybe it was unspoken but suspected. Steve was the token and necessary heir that they were obligated to have, but they don’t really have sex after he was born.

But so his dad slept with a man and his mother found out and now she follows him on trips to keep him from sleeping with other men and threatening him with “you would be nothing without me” type shit.

And then maybe one day Steve’s dad catches Steve with a boy and while Steve is terrified thinking his father is going to hate crime him, his dad is merely realizing that despite his best efforts, his son will never have an easy life. But he wants his son to have a HAPPY life, and his dad is realizing that he’s not happy either, that he’s tired of lying, of pretending just for the ease of prestige and money.

So, for the sake of his beloved son, he files for divorce, knowing that his soon to be ex-wife will get the house, the money (besides what little bit he’s granted, and what Steve’s granted in a trust), and the ability to tell everyone that her ex-husband is a queer. (She won’t, but only so she can keep it in her back pocket as a threat.)

But Steve’s dad? He gets the better end of the bargain. He gets Steve. She can have everything else, but he gets custody of his boy.

And okay maybe the boy Steve was caught with was Tommy or maybe it was a rando, but they decide they can’t lose their easy hetero-appearing life so they drop Steve and pretend nothing happened. Maybe Steve and his dad have to move to Forest Hills, at least until his dad can get back on his feet, find a new job. A BETTER job. One that lets him be part of his boy’s life more.

Maybe Steve starts interacting with the other boy around his age at the trailer park who never would have suspected Steve of all people to be new trailer trash like him.

Maybe Steve and the town Freak realize they have more in common than they thought.

Maybe Steve’s dad tries to live a little more authentically. Maybe he and Steve both do. Maybe his dad finds someone, maybe he doesn’t. But what matters is that they have each other.

Maybe Steve and his dad don’t have the life they were expecting, but it’s the life they never thought they could have: a happy one full of love and acceptance and family.

The more I think about it, the more I want Moxxie to be the one to comfort Stolas when they find out how bad things were with Stella.

We love Blitz’s ability to just speak whatever’s on his mind. But this situation is so delicate, and I can see him unintentionally driving the knife further in by just blurting out the first thing that comes to mind. Stolas is aware that Stella is a cruel, unloving person and he did nothing to deserve her abuse. But he may still blame himself for other things: for not leaving sooner. For not refusing the marriage in the first place. For not fighting harder for full custody of Octavia. For not taking her threats of assassination seriously. For…

But you know who it would click with immediately?

Moxxie.

Moxxie, whose mother was murdered just to keep him in line. Moxxie, who has a powerful father that only sees him as a token to trade away. Moxxie, who was saved from his own arranged marriage by Blitz. Moxxie, who had nothing but the cold and the dark for most of his life.

Moxxie will know the stakes. Moxxie will know Stolas did his best in an impossible situation and is crumbling under the weight of expectations. Moxxie will know that Stolas had no good options, so he picked what he thought was the least bad one. Moxxie will see Stolas for what he is: a broken, burnt out man that is in no condition to fight for his life, anymore. He’s been fighting for his life with no one in his corner for nearly forty years, and it’s killing him.

(I have to imagine that, despite him loving Octavia, he does have to feel some kind of way knowing that he has a replacement ready and available in case he steps too far out of line. Maybe that’s why his comforting words to her were always ‘You’ll be okay when I’m gone.’ Because he knows there’s no reason to keep him around once she turns 18 and he’s tired of trying to find reasons to not just give up).

Moxxie would never criticize Stolas for not leaving earlier. Or for thinking that he could shield Octavia from Stella’s cruelty if he took all the ire. Or for getting so used to the death threats that he stopped listening.

And I think more than anything, Stolas needs someone in addition to Blitz whose approval he is not dependent on to tell him he did the best he could, and he can’t feel guilty about that.

On the topic of Dick Grayson's birthday, and I know I'm late but ignore that, but what is going on??

Like, I know DC never locked it down and most people just slap it onto the first day of Spring, but consider this:

Dick's birth and adoption dates are both incredibly vague- and when I comment on his adoption know that I know he was a ward for a long time, but I need like a Bruce and Dick moment where he's like "will you be my son?" And then everyone cries.

Point is, and the point is incredibly angsty, that when Dick is nine, he just knows his birthday is the first day of Spring. When his custody is transferred again and again before Bruce, any sign of foreign birth certificate is lost in the system (not to mention Dick was literally born in a circus so that already makes things a little muddy).

They celebrate accordingly, very hesitant and usually on March 20th.

Another point, slightly lighter and because I refuse to admit that Bruce never officially adopted Dick, is that they do celebrate his Gotcha Day.

Maybe it wouldn't be openly celebrated, but it would be at the very least unspoken acknowledged.

Dick's favorite dinner, a family movie night, and even maybe a small token.

He never expects anyone to really know, but I think the fact that there's a highlighted date with no words in each child's assigned colored code on the family calendar is enough to make Dick at the very least smile.

It's definitely a fond memory. Even though the whole idea of a Gotcha Day is pretty Western, I still like to think Dick still feels like it's a reminder of when he got a happy thing in dark times.

As Schilling recalls, "Lisa Marie, was always a very perceptive child. She realised this was not the usual way her daddy said goodbye. Normally, Elvis would says, 'Button-head I'm off to work. What do you want daddy to bring you back, this time?'"

"This day was strange, and Lisa knew it. She looked into her daddy's eyes and asked him, 'Are you crying, daddy?"

At the point, Elvis flashed Priscilla a look that could kill, then delivered Lisa into her mother's awaiting arms, turned on his heels, walked back into the house, without looking back.

"I'd seen that look before in Elvis eyes," says Schilling. "It a look that still sends a chill went down my spine, when I think of it... It's was a look of pain, anger, desperation and hurt."

"For the rest of that day, till about 4 am that night, Elvis closed himself up in his bedroom. He wouldn't eat or take our calls."

"We got very worried. We thought maybe he had knocked myself out with a whole lot of sleeping pills."

Ladies and Gentlefolks: The Asylum Challenge

I got tired of having Lilac cooped up in a bunker (and the main reason was because of the meanness bug anyway, which for me at least has been patched), so instead she is cooped up in an asylum! Onwards and upwards, eh Lilac?

So yes, we ('what do you mean, we?' she asks) are doing the asylum challenge, with some minor tweaks to the rules. Since the whole conceit of Lilac is that she shouldn't be there, I let her keep her regular traits (SELF-ASSURED, LAZY and FREEGAN) aaaaand since her housemates are pre-made townies, I likewise didn't alter them.

Although some, you may agree, should be locked up for something.

(Disclaimer: I know that institutions can be - to put it nicely - problematic, in the real world, and it is not my intention to make light of this. This is just for the silliness factor and other than doing my best to keep them bound to one lot, the Sims will be able to act as they do normally.)

Li Lun, a villain I feel for (Pt. 2/4)

So, by the beginning of the drama LL says that he wants to kill all of ZYZ’s new friends. In fact, he just likes talking. He says: “Let’s kill ZYZ’s friends starting with Baize Goddess, like the previous time” so the viewer thinks he killed previous goddess off, but later we learn that he didn't do it. Even if he has a perfect opportunity to kill someone of ZYZ’s new friends without ruining his own schemings, he does pretty nothing to achieve it. He just stands and talks. Because he doesn’t really want to kill anyone, including ZYZ. He wants to attract ZYZ’s attention and to make ZYZ stop ghosting him.

Li Lun speaks to Big Bad in Mask while possessing a courtesan. Meanwhile, he lends Truth Eye to Ao Ying so she could see his true self.

LL joins hands with Big Bad in Mask, not knowing he was the one who tortured demons in that bloody dungeon (yeah, LL is not the smartest guy of the Universe). By doing it he tries to achieve his own goals. First, he wants to break free from his custody, and second, he wants to get attention from ZYZ, who ignores him.

In order to break his chains LL works as matchmaker for ZYZ and his girlfriend, so they could fall in love with each other and find and unite pieces of Baize token, because only if the token is intact, it can be broken and its spells can be dissipated. He is not a saint, so he kills some folks (by possessing them or just because) and tricks other demons into helping him, although he is said to value his own kind more than anything. It means he goes through break-up with ZYZ so badly, that even his principles fade into the background for his anger and pain. Or it’s just another script flaw.

Li Lun behaves himself very much as a ghosted ex-boyfriend (in fact, he is), and I understand him well. He goes through stages of acceptance: throws himself from denial (ZYZ is no better than me, why don't you treat him the way he treated me?) through anger (ZYZ, I’ll kill your friends and make you suffer!) to bargaining (Why does he find you better than me? What if you would be like me, would he still love you?).

To talk about his feelings with someone, he uses the only way to leave his dark lifeless place of imprisonment, which is possessing others. At first, this ability and an omnipotence of it looks intimidating, but later we learn that he cuts his lifespan by a half each time he does it, so his need to talk to someone is very desperate. (Later, LL says that it was his way to enjoy the world and freedom but GJM never showed us such a use of this LL's ability). ZYZ knows that destroying LL’s leaves (through which he possesses bodies) will hurt Li Lun, yet he does it anyway, and LL kinda... enjoys it bitterly. As if the fact of him being not ignored by ZYZ is more important that his wellbeing. It's miserable and pathetic, but understandable.

And anytime LL tries to get some answers for his questions, ZYZ and his friends say something like “You don’t understand a thing, I won’t bother to explain, though.” or “We have friends and ZYZ is our boyfriend, and you are a lonely loser!”. How it supposes to help LL understand his wrongs? I have no idea.

Ghosting your ex is the sure way to make him a villain.

LL breaks free from his jail and destroys a “support beam” of the “wall” around demon ghetto. An accent on “I’m destroying the wall” is strange, because I can’t understand the gain demons will have when they aren't in their ghetto anymore (and it obviously should be). Would Great Demons even the scores of victims if not only humans would catch and torture demons but demons would also catch and torture humans, or what? However, it sounds pretty fair, as long as said Baize Goddess’ and ZYZ’s protection of demons consist in only preventing them from going outside their ghetto without passport, LOL.

Although LL is free from the seal, he is still dying from the fatal wound causing by ZYZ 8 years ago. His true body is smoldering slowly, so he has got not so much time left.

For plot purposes, the main heroes need to visit LL’s birthplace to get the last cup of magic water to fix Baize token and to restore a “support beam” of ghetto’s wall. What would a normal villain do, knowing about it? Yes, he would spill it. What does LL do? He, in fact, hands it over to the main heroes. Yes, stained, but LL was a student of Mountain God, too, so he could know that there is a way to restore the pureness of magic water, and the best way to destroy the token for good is to spill this water.

During their visit LL kidnaps ZYZ’s girlfriend (it is funny that the main heroes don’t notice it for something like first five minutes 😅) and has a phycologist session with her (in which she is a psychologist). They have a superstrange conversation, something like: LL: “ZYZ supposed to be my friend but ghosted me for no obvious for me reason and I’m hurt!”. WX: “Oh, it’s because you are a loser with no friends, ZYZ did everything right!”.

Then ZYZ and his current boyfriend come and LL tries once more to tell ZYZ that he is hurt, but ZYZ has absolutely no desire to talk to him or to explain to him something and acts like they were never boyfriends and LL is his archenemy.

So, they fight and ZYZ hurts LL with Everburning Wood once more, now deliberately. LL dies, and although ZYZ has red eyes at this moment he never thinks of LL again. So, LL is right: ZYZ is a hypocrite with double standards. It is such a contrast with the stories of the main heroes and ancient dragon gods, in which killing your friend for Higher Goals is a tragedy.

As a fellow historian, do you know if anyone has tried to interview The Shade? It keeps me up at night wondering if he’s ever written stuff down about his life, because god forbid he somehow dies someday and all that KNOWLEDGE and EXPERIENCE disappears.

We know he HAS a diary. We, by that same token, also know it would probably never end up in the hands of the public interest.

(A portrait, we assume of The Shade, discovered in a secret safe thought to be owned by Oscar Wilde. No seriously. Draw your own conclusions) The Shade, AKA Richard Swift (if that is his real name but I wouldn't count on it) has been alive for a very long time and most of the details of where he was, what he was doing or who he was going it with have been obscured by the shadows of history. One can assume most of that obscurity was either purposeful on the Shade's part or suited his purposes. But we also know that The Shade is something of a romantic, in the classical sense. He has a poet's eye if not necessarily its heart and has a remarkable nostalgic streak particularly for his adopted home in Opal City. When that city came under threat from the forces of The Mist and his hooligans, The Shade stepped in to assist the young Jack Knight in taking over his temporary role as Starman. It is there that a few details around the outside begin taking shape. Jack Knight was not what one would call THROUGH with his police reports, very few heroes are. A superhero who fully fills out a report to a workable amount of detail as a first hand source is a broad rarity and Jack's general slacker attitude only further enforced his disinterest in the practice but like it or not every word he said in nearness to an active disaster or case was recorded and more than once he mentioned that The Shade entrusted him with a diary granting him crucial insight to a problem's context at the 11th hour. That being SAID he was also quoted as saying that the diary was sworn to secrecy by the Shade himself and I very much doubt that The Shade plans to let the Knight estate keep custody of his writings once Jack or perhaps Jack's children pass away.

Laz is my scrunky lil guy! He started as a dnd character for a (still ongoing but nearing the end) Curse of Strahd campaign and ended up being the Token Guy in a party of ladies (Truly the game of strong/scary ladies and like, wet rat guys lmaoooo) who also ends up being the PC most in distress too sdfghjkl He's a shadow monk and a bitch ass lil punk~

....This is gunna be a big one actually so I'll put most of it under a readmore,,,,

Because he's ALSO got a modern AU that got spun out of a hiatus in the game, which fits in w/ him very well but also just is So Much Worse for him rippppp (there's whump in his og dnd universe but it's toned down)

He'd been in Barovia for ~7 years before the party hired his mom the paladin who's barn he squats in and he tagged along~ Everyone in Barovia just assumes he's her "guard dog", so when he snaps at people, they'll just talk to her over him (and TBH it doesn't help that she'll scruff him or tell him to drop it if he's biting someone oops) and until recently, it was a bit of an open secret in Valaki that the owner of the orphanage outside of town had a vampire under her thumb, but they tolerated it bc he (usually) listens to her and just offloads his morality to her

Lazarus was also already a vampire BEFORE he found his way through the Mists but he was completely feral before Eurydice (our paladin) got him to start staying in her barn. Like, can't read, can't write, couldn't or didn't speak any Common, growling and snarling in the woods feral. He didn't remember anything about what he'd been doing before and was really blase and indifferent about his vampiric status (mostly just.... Didn't want Strahd to find out there was another vampire in his territory and REALLY offended if someone insinuated he was actually a spawn and not a full vampire lmfao) even though the party and Esmeralda started gently trying to pry about how he "clearly" died young. ....He did NOT in face, die young. But he argued that if he DID, then that was fine because he's not a stupid weak living person anymore and everyone was like mmmmmmm should we unpack that??

We found out later that Lazarus can actually eat other vampires and when he DOES, he physically grows/ages and gets a little stronger. ....And then we found out Laz is actually a weird little flesh-crafted vampire that was made by ritual! And he's never been alive in the first place! (This also means the wizard is our One Single Party Member who was actually born, because the Warlock is an Awakened Mimic, Laz was a test tube baby ritual summon, and our paladin actually hatched from a gourd (even though she looks like a regular aasimar)

The DM/plot has put him through the WRINGER though- he gets the shit beat out of him a lot (made worse because everyone else has some kind of aura against undead or vampires lmao) and he fucked up and killed a guard who was running away WHILE Strahd and his ilk were in town, so they made an example of him and decided to "re-train him" at the Castle, which was mmmmmm tasty tasty~

One of the BIG ones was "Kindness"- a big, scary Conquest Paladin and one of Strahd's "Iron Nails" (the DM's rework of the Brides to make them the embodiment of each PC's fears) who took an interest in Lazarus. SHE wanted him as HER dog, not Eurydice, and SHE was the one to take him into custody after he killed the guard. She was the one guarding him while everyone figured out what to do with him (and going in and just exerting power over him for any little thing she wanted to) and the one who brought him to Ravenloft after Eurydice kinda sorta signed custody over to Strahd whoopssss

....And she DID kind of get in his head because Laz likes to lie to himself and say he believes "Might Makes Right" and Kindness scared him into instinctively wanting to listen to her because she WAS stronger. Kindness could choke him out like it was NOTHING and he landed a hit with his claws that did absolutely nothing to her, which scared the SHIT out of him (This turned out to be because she had armor or an aura that made her immune to bludgeoning and slashing damage, and hid VERY well that she was weak to piercing damage) While he was bound and gagged at the castle, Strahd also leveraged the orphanage's safety against him to force Laz to let him kinda sleeper agent charm him and mmmmmmmm it was so tasty~ He couldn't say what happened but he couldn't say he couldn't say, so it was a lot of him being cagey and frustrated~

BUT he did eventually, finally overcome what happened and snap out of it in a fight that went VERY sideways and he got to gut Kindness and tear at her throat!!!

In the Modern AU.... Modern AU-wise, he's uhhhhhh in a worse spot. He's a bit more defiant and argumentative here (hard to believe with how many fights he picks normally, but usually he ends up shutting up and letting someone else talk) Still squats on Eurydice's property but it's her shed in her backyard lmao~

....Or he DID because in the modern AU Kindness is the chief of police and scooped him up off the street, so most of what I draw is him trapped in her basement lmaoooo

He still killed some folks- including a vampire cop (which tipped her off) but his hobbies are more making fake IDs, trespassing, and making punk accessories but he's also VERY easy to disappear because he doesn't really exist in the first place lol.

Kindness still likes forcing him to obey her and breaking him in, but there's more of an emphasis on the "dog" part, because she's done a lot of K9 animal training in the police, so she's trying to make him her little "enforcer" pet. (What vampire wouldn't want a vampire who can eat other vampires under their control?)

Lazarus fucking HATES this, but Kindness knows how all his abilities work and how to counter or cancel them (and there's an actual day/night cycle) so he's shit out of luck and pretty isolated. And she doesn't even let him shapeshift into a wolf that much!

Laz ends up duct taped or muzzled a looooot, though whether she's leaving him alone shut away somewhere or actively invading his personal space and trying to grind his pride into the dust varies
