Started Anna Karenina a few days ago and I'm amazed at how easy it's to read (because of the period and the fact that it's such a talked about classic book). Dostoyevsky and Tolstoy seem to never disappoint me💖

Cogli shorts nei paesi caldi o quando gioca a tennis, I'uomo elegante si permette delle calze corte, ma questi due casi sono l'eccezione che conferma la regola. In ogni altro caso solo "le calze lunghe sono abilitate a rivestire piede e polpaccio". Soprattutto il polpaccio. Quando un individuo si siede incrociando le gambe l'eleganza maschile tenta di far dimenticare l'essenziale, cioè che è un uomo in carne e ossa. E un uomo in carne e ossa s'appoggia su polpacci pelosi. Non però quella creatura irreale che è l'uomo elegante. La prova: al posto dei polpacci sotto ai pantaloni si scorgono motivi caviar, losanghe, riquadri, righe verticali, pied- de-poule, blu scuro, bordeaux, grigio antracite, verde intenso (no, non si vedranno né verde prato, né fragola, né motivi dalle dimensioni superiori di quelle del mignolino), in breve una gran quantità di roba molto più rassicurante della pelle umana percorsa da autentici vasi sanguigni. Si controllerà ancora una volta verificando che il colore e i motivi delle calze siano ben accordati alla giacca o alla cravatta, che siano oggetti perfettamente inerti e inoffensivi.
