ADSRを変えながら比べる
Tumblr media
今回はVolume Envelope(Attack、Decay、Sustain、Release)のみの影響を調べてみたいと思って作り始めた。

Since I have seen a few people try and frame Tolya being aroace as just a headcanon, or point out the (valid) fact that being aroace doesn't completely negate that someone can be in a relationship as a reason why having him be interested in Inej in the show isn't erasure, I feel like it's important to point out that he very specifically states in the text of one of the books that he has no interest in forming a romantic relationship or attachment with anyone and never has:
Tumblr media
So yes. Shipping him with Inej, or anyone else, is erasing his canon sexuality. That's it.

That caption was awful even without the book context. Honestly if someone defend that because didn't read the books then just watched the show with the head in their ass

Sometimes you don’t NEED skin on skin
Just to really bring the point home for those who have not read the Six of Crows duology and think that Inej deserves to “have some fun before she finds her way back to her true love”, or who perhaps think that a love triangle/jealousy drama would somehow spur Kaz into action (do you even know Kaz Brekker?):
For someone connected to the production to caption a photo of the actors with the (crack) ship name of their characters (“Tonej”) and talk about “skin on skin” might seem innocent (”it’s just an Insta post”), but let’s look at the context for those who are upset by this – some of whom have suffered similar traumas and find comfort/inspiration in Inej’s character.
Here is a sample of Inej’s previous experience of skin on skin:
There were young men, old men, handsome men, ugly men. There was the man who cried and struck her when he could not perform. The man who wanted her to pretend it was their wedding night and tell him that she loved him. The man with sharp teeth like a kitten who had bitten at her breasts until she’d bled. Crooked Kingdom p. 274 Kindle version
And these are the men she remembers; mostly she forced herself to go numb, while making all the right noises and moves so Tante Heleen would not abuse her further.
Because she loves Kaz, she tells him she is willing to work on that trauma IF HE WORKS ON HIS. This does not mean that she is itching for skin on skin action there and then, it means she wants to be ready for it if they are to have a future together.
What if he had come to her, laid his gloves aside, drawn her to him, kissed her mouth? Would she have pulled him closer? Kissed him back? Could she have been herself in such a moment or would she have broken apart and vanished, a doll in his arms, a girl who could never quite be whole? Crooked Kingdom, p. 275 Kindle version
This is her mindset as she boards that ship in S2E8. She does not need a man who is basically a stranger to be her ticket out of trauma – not even a lovely one like Tolya (who in turn does not need or want romance in his life to be fulfilled). She needs healing, a purpose and – as a character – not to be reduced to half a ship in a fling which would be nothing but a waste of precious screentime.
EDIT: Inserting screenshot of the caption/tagging of the photo depicting Amita Suman and Lewis Tan, just to highlight the clear reference to the characters  and not the actors, whatever was claimed afterwards.

i’m going to address tonej because it’s been really bothering me ever since i saw people first shipping them together and this post set me over the edge. yes, everyone is allowed to ship who they want and this is my opinion. the fact that someone who is involved in the show, can so willing disregard inej’s touch aversion and her trauma, when the show hardly addresses inej’s trauma, doesn’t sit right with me. her “skin to skin” joke is not funny, like what the fuck? the fact that people can so willingly disregard her trauma as well as kaz trying to be open and willing to try and change himself so that he can be with inej? jesus christ, and the fact that both freddy and amita have poured so much fucking time into giving the fans an incredible kanej while both respecting their backstories and their trauma, and people just disregard two seasons of their fucking incredible chemistry for a couple of glances with toyla? fuck no. freddy and amita care so much about their characters and have spent hours discussing the books as well as giving us believable performances about two people who are deeply traumatized but want to be together

We learnt how to build an 8 step sequencer with various effects. It wasn't as hard as I thought it’ll be once we’ve broken down the steps. The hard part was figuring out how to get the steps running and implementing tonejs in the framework.

Interactive Music
Anyone else really sad that EyeO is over?
Before I go on, check out this super cool audio-reactive music video: http://dennis.video Everyone has shared it so you might have already seen it, but if you haven’t, it’s wonderful.  Onwards... Scroll to play. It's not not only an interactive music video....it's interactive music.
I like the interaction -- it's different than what I usually see; it gives you much more agency in terms of how it’s played out throughout the entire thing (vs. predetermined moments), and makes you feel like you’re much more in control of the outcome.
It's a simple mechanic, but the audio changes as you scroll. Scroll up, down, sideways...and listen to the music and visuals change as you interact with it. It has a super internet-y aesthetic too it, too. Enjoy.

did u see all the ppl turning on the sab show after they made the ‘tonej’ comment? (far, far too late for fans to try and care abt inej’s trauma now lol but that’s not the point)
do you think they’ll be a subtle shift and more people will start to realise how harmful the show/showrunners are now that the honeymoon phase is over?
I'm not sure which part of that whole post was more offensive: framing Kaz's trauma as a flaw and inconvenience, completely ignoring Inej's own sexual trauma, or trying to put a canonically aroace character in a relationship.
And all of that from one of the show's writers. I honestly don't even need to write analysis of why this Shadow and Bone is a shit show anymore, they're doing it for me themselves

Symph!
So excited to share the capstone project created alongside my amazing teammates Emily Intersimone & Mariya Bogorodova!
We built a web app called Symph that lets you create new musical ideas and share w/ friends. Our goal was to make music composition fun & accessible. Also, we really wanted to play with synthesizing music in the browser. Hope you’ll check it out and let me know what you think! We’re deployed at getsymph.io
You can also take a look at our source code on Github.
We built the app using the MEAN stack - MongoDB/Mongoose, Express, Angular & Node.
In addition, some of the key technologies & libraries we used included:
ToneJS - used throughout our app, this library provided us an abstraction over the Web Audio API, which let us schedule our music in a timeline of notes (instead of dealing with oscillators, frequencies & filters directly through Web Audio API). We scheduled our music using callbacks added to the Tone.Transport object. Our challenge was the make sure there wasn’t latency on playback when we added animations, or when trying to save the notes in a format we could send to the DB.
FabricJS - used on our Loop Editor to create the grid on which you can add notes. This library provided an abstraction over the HTML5 Canvas API. We created a canvas object, and drew a grid on it - FabricJS helped us add the functionality that lets you click, drag, extend, delete notes on that grid. Biggest challenge was making sure we had a way to not only save musical info about notes added to the grid, but also draw notes for an existing loop on load.
HTML Drag and Drop API - we created custom Angular directives to handle the drag and drop functionality on the Mix Editor page. This page lets you drag and drop loops into Tracks to make mixes. Things we had to consider included: copying loops dragged from the Loop Bucket, actually moving around loops that are dragged from within the Tracks, and adding a Delete button. We had to deal with ensuring there weren’t duplicate HTML IDs, and also making sure that when you drop a loop div into the Track, it actually adds that loop’s musical data to the timeline.
Overall, building Symph was an amazing experience - in no small part due to the amazing Mariya & Emily who I was lucky to be able to work with! We’re continuing to add to the application even now, including things like new instruments, sampled instruments (piano sounds!!), etc. As of late, I’ve been working on creating tests for the routes & models, to make it easier to continue developing the app.
Feel free to reach out if you have questions about Symph, want to learn more about how we made it, etc. Always happy to chat! :)
