I'm gonna have a controversial opinion here but for some reason, I totally see Arizona who'd want to be Robbins-Torres, or even just Torres, especially if they got married again, legally, after the plane crash. Idk it just seems like she'd want to have the same last name as her wife and daughter, to have the same family name, to feel like she belongs to Callie. I could also see her wanting to give her baby the last name Torres, again because that would just be their family's name, her wife's name. I get that not everyone agrees with that, but I think you could make a good argument for Arizona wanting to be a Torres, I don't find it completely ooc like something like naming their kid Mark Timothy, which is just absurd.

honestly that all makes sense and i think really proves the importance of having a reasoning behind character decisions. that all tracks and fits with arizonas overall character and what we know of how she views family.

the issue arises when it’s just “arizona wants to only use callie’s last name end of story” bc that doesn’t at all track with what we know about arizona

this time around i am midway thru season 10.... my #1 blorbo is about to leave and im worried and scared because of some spoilers i read. but anyways here is my current analysis!

BLORBOS

- meredith grey. we started off rocky but i love and support her wholeheartedly now. has done the least stupid stuff as a doctor! bonus points for that. has gone through so much more than she deserves.

- derek shepherd. has done a lot of stupid shit and is a very stupid and reckless man. but underneath all of that he is a good man who wants to do good and help people. an amazing father!!!! and husband.

- cristina yang. the closest to perfect. i wish she would stop making awful relationship decisions. in my world she is happily married to a woman. a nurse, maybe.

- george o'malley. my perfect perfect son. ohhhhh my son. i am so sorry you died. i wish you had gotten to be happy with callie and have a great little family together and be an amazing surgeon.

- callie torres. brilliant surgeon brilliant woman. a little stupid at times. but i think her strengths are all way stronger than that.

- mark sloan. also very stupid! but in a very charming way. was amazing to watch him grow and change.

- lexie grey. deserved a better exit from the show wtffff. got used as an extra trauma to throw at meredith or something like damn. she was amazing and excellent in her own right. justice for lexiepedia.

- april kepner. BABYYYYYY. amazing and deserves the world, honestly. i have nothing but admiration for her i think.

- heather brooks. AAAAAAGH?!!!!! she was so cute and fun and brought an energy to the show nobody else has! deserved soooo much better.

- alex karev. has done too many messy and problematic things to be a full blorbo but like derek he is ultimately a good man who wants to do good. amazing peds surgeon. can't wait to see him as a dad i bet he'll be a little league coach.

- miranda bailey. now normally she would be full blorbo but she's been bothering me a little lately! amazing surgeon! amazing woman! but she needs to get her life more under control or something.

- jackson avery. i was gonna put him in "it won't work" but it could eventually idk. he's great for april and a good doctor! i don't like his face tho and mostly he kinda bores me

- reed adamson. i think i would have loved her so much if she got to live longer. i think about her and april a lot.

- addison montgomery. i think i just don't see her enough to be a full blorbo. excellent character tho.

- teddy altman. i think when she comes back on the show she'll get an upgrade but right now she's away and not on my mind. she was pretty damn good tho.

- stephanie edwards. she's really great but right now her plot is kind of just avery. i hope to love her more soon!

- izzie stevens. used to be my favorite.... she was so great. honestly i blame cancer for everything. Except the denny lvad thing i think that was precancer. but the romance with george that she dropped so fast? and then doing all that crap to alex? unforgivable. i hope she finds happiness in a new life with new people but i want her far away from my blorbos.

IT WILL NEVER WORK BUT I DON'T HATE YOU

- owen hunt. i DO hate his pro-life stance. treated cristina awfully there. but he is also the best love interest she had. and he's a great trauma surgeon, and the best chief i have seen! we just have too many differences to ever truly blorb together.

- arizona robbins. Honestly? most of the time i Do hate her. but i also respect her too much to Anti her. especially her growth after losing her leg! but it fucking sucked for callie. i think if the show had kept mark alive i could have gotten along with her more but she has been awful to callie way too much.

- leah murphy. Mad respect for her crazy but her emotions are also what ruined her. i hope she has a good career elsewhere.

- ben warren. sometimes he's good for bailey sometimes he makes her worse. but i respect him.

I DON'T KNOW

- jo wilson. uhhhh..... she just kinda exists i don't know. sometimes she's good for alex. but i am not very interested in her. does not spark joy.

- charles percy. i think we would have had a very rocky relationship had he lived but i think the way they killed him was very artful? it was one of the best death scenes i have seen.

ANTI BLORBOS.

- richard webber. he has done too much fuckass shit and acted insufferably FAR too many times. way more tolerable as a general surgeon and not as chief but still incredibly irritating.

- preston burke. took advantage of cristina in so many ways and never once truly considered himself and his own actions. selfish, awful man.

- erica hahn. Too bitter. involved emotions in her work in a way i disliked? i think she was never meant to be a main character.

- shane ross. Bruh what the fuckkkkk. he has done way too much wrong. maybe someday if we actually tackle the fact that he kinda Killed heather we can be at least partial or something but ..... i don't want him on this show.

- ellis grey. Noooooope. don't even care about all her groundbreaking work or her disease or whatever. i want nothing to do with her.

- adele webber. i hated her so much and there was no reason to make her so evil and irritating so much??????? the show would have been way more interesting and webber might have been more redeemable if she had been Good.

- sloan riley. this girl pissed me offffff like she went thru it she was having a bad time but ultimately she just ruined shit for mark and lexie and that sucks.

- catherine avery. whenever shes around and is rude to jackson he becomes a temporary blorbo. he doesn't deserve the shit she puts him through. frustrating character overall. But! mad respect to her work as a urologist she always brings interesting cases to the show!

Three Words, Eight Letters (1/1)

Fandom: Grey’s Anatomy

Characters: Arizona Robbins, Callie Torres

Summary: It is Callie and Arizona's first Christmas after the plane crash, and they are determined to make it as normal as possible for Sofia. As the day unfolds, and with The Colonel and Barbara Robbins spending Christmas in Seattle, the Robbins-Torres family find a way of reconnecting thanks to the magic of the holidays.

Note: This fic was original written in 2012 as part of the callie_arizona Livejournal Secret Santa gift exchange, so if it sounds familiar, you may have read it before. It is one of the fics I am most proud of and it sits on LJ where it gets no love so, even thought it's ten years later, I thought I'd cross-post it to AO3 as part of my fic archive. (Also how has it been ten years since I wrote this?!)

The prompt I was given was: The Robbins family comes to their first post-plane crash Christmas. Tense or delightful, or both, whatever you want.

It was an unusually quiet Christmas eve at Seattle Grace Mercy West Hospital and Callie found herself hanging up her lab coat in her locker at six o’clock. As so often these days, she did it with some trepidation.

Slipping into her coat and grabbing her bag, Callie made her way out of the hospital. She shivered in the winter air and pulled her scarf tighter around her neck to stave off the cold. Despite the drop in temperature, she began her walk home, a recent habit that she had developed. It had started as a way to put off getting home for a little while longer, but now she simply enjoyed the chance to clear her head before facing whatever the evening threw at her.

On good days, Callie would arrive home to find her wife on the floor, surrounded by books and toys, with Sofia running around her playfully. She would hear them from outside the apartment and know that the evening ahead of her would be a good one. On bad days, Arizona would shut herself away in her bedroom and refuse to talk to anyone, leaving Callie to explain to their daughter once again why Mama wasn’t eating dinner with them.

The holiday season had not brought with it the joy that it usually did. They had tried to embrace Christmas: the apartment was decorated and they had chosen Sofia’s gifts together, making plans for Christmas Day, just like last year. Except it wasn’t like last year at all and they both knew it. The last six months had been filled with so much hurt and anger and sadness, that even the decorations and presents and the excited smile of their daughter could not push it all aside.

Absent parents that're leaving their messy young adult children to teach themselves how to be adults and a family that's so fallen apart and passive agressive about it? How could I choose just one?

FULL BIOGRAPHY

BRIEF BIO:

Sofia was basically local golden child growing up, as well as everyone's big sister. She did well in school, and traveled cross country to do her internship at Johns Hopkins and intended to come back to work somewhere in Seattle after getting that unique experience but she ended up staying through her residency as well.

The little group of interns she was paired with became incredibly close with one another. After a year working together, a few of them moved in together and became a little dysfunctional family. A couple of them ended up moving hospitals but staying roommates/besties, but Sofia and another one of the interns ( Mallory ) became inseparable. Mallory had no real family, bouncing around foster homes as a kid and becoming her social worker's favorite success story with her college/med school/internship achievements. 

With some of the group split and some still thriving in their residencies at Hopkins, things were going great. Even when Mallory found out she was pregnant the first year of her residency, they became a little sitcom family all chipping in going to doctors appointments, and Sofia even delivered the baby. They cared for the baby ( in really the only way Sofia knew ) as if the kid had four parents, and everything was woohoo aww cute.

Sofia was working the ER one night when an accident came in. Three of the hospitals own residents and an infant were involved. Miraculously, the baby only had a few cuts, but the adults were all in critical condition, sending Sofia into a night of desperately trying all she could to save her best friends.

As it goes, attempts were unsuccessful, their injuries were too much. In the blink of an eye, Sofia lost all three of her closest friends, three people who had become her family. In the midst of her grief, Sofia was reminded that she was the baby, Emma’s, legal guardian. A simple title given to Sofia over a year prior when she was born, one that she never imagined would come to fruition.

So now there Sofia is, suddenly raising a toddler on her own and managing her residency. It was then that she began the journey of transferring home, pulling a month at Seattle Pres before finally getting a spot at SGMW.

Claudia was born to parents who were only fifteen and had no idea how to take on the task of being parents. Deciding that they couldn’t raise a child yet, she was put in the system when she was a month old. Cooper was the pediatrician that she saw as a toddler, and she took a liking to him and vice versa. After a lot of persuasion from Cooper, he and Charlotte chose to foster to adopt, and Claudia became a permanent member of the family.

When she was young, she was one of the sweetest kids you’d come across. However, despite this, people would tease her and call her dorky because she had clunky glasses, and she always seemed to have her nose in a book. She’d walk around every day with her hair in pigtails, wearing cute little dresses. It carried on that way until high school. 

On her first day of high school, a few girls two grades up decided to take Claudia under their wing. They were far from good influences. Claudia started to change, both appearance and personality. The good girl in the pigtails and dresses with the big glasses was replaced by a leather jacket, ripped jeans, contact lenses, and red lipstick wearing girl. Her books were becoming more and more untouched on her shelves. She would skip class, mouth off to teachers. She’d go hang out with her friends and smoke, drink, and whatever else they’d say was a good idea. 

When her friends graduated after she had finished 10th grade, she was left to fend for herself. The person she had become still stuck for the most part, but she tried a little harder in school, mostly because her parents began to crack down on her for slacking so much. She had a knack for English, math, and sciences, so while she may have been doing poorly at things like geography and history, she still had something she could excel in. She did still find herself in trouble a lot though, despite starting to put in more effort into her learning. She found it hard to give up the smoking, and the drinking. The latter, she still does regularly, trying her best to keep it a secret from her parents. She doesn’t think it’s a problem.

When she was 15, she came to the realization that she was gay. She knows her parents will probably be okay with it, but the fear that maybe they won’t be is something she thinks about a lot. The world not being the most accepting place either is the reason she’s still in the closet. She has been debating coming out, but she wants to make sure it’s the right moment for her, so despite being almost 20, she’s just very insecure with herself.

Claudia has always been curious abut her origins. Not because she didn’t love Charlotte and Cooper, or her siblings, but because she felt abandoned by her birth parents. She struggles with it because she’s wants to know about who they are and she kind of wants to meet them someday just so she can ask why the hell they gave her up, but she also has a lot of hate in her heart towards them. 

Claudia is in university currently. She’s got aspirations to follow her parents’ footsteps into the medical field, hoping to be a trauma surgeon. She also has a passion for music, and will write and perform in local showcases, coffee shops, and various all ages venues.

Liliana had a normal life for the first four years of her life. She had a ‘traditional’ family - a mother, a father, living in a cute house in Seattle’s suburbs, church on Sunday and holidays. Her perfect little life came crashing down when she woke up in the middle of the night and smelled something. She’d learned young about fire safety, and she knew that she was not safe to leave her bedroom through the door, feeling the heat coming from the other side. She hid herself in a corner, watching as the fire made it’s way into her room. She was scared. When a female firefighter came in and got her out, she clung to her tightly, asking where her parents were. It was while she was being treated for mild burns and smoke inhalation that she learned that her parents had both burned to death in the house. The fire started in their bedroom, and by the time firefighters got there, they were long gone.

Apparently Lili made an impact on the woman who rescued her, because every day she was visited by her, and when it was time to go home, she learned that this firefighter, this Andy Herrera lady, was going to be taking her with her. From that point on, she was a Herrera, and as she grew older, a lot of her memories faded, but she never forgot the night that everything turned life upside down. She always admired her mother for what she did every day, but she knew for sure that she didn’t want to follow in her footsteps. She held a fear of fire for her entire life, something she hasn’t shaken to this day.

Liliana was a very sassy, passionate person, and she was very blunt. There was no beating around the bush, no filtering. She just didn’t have that in her, no matter how hard Andy tried to teach her. She was a smart cookie, and she was dedicated in school, but she was also a troublemaker. She absolutely snuck out at night to party, she would take Andy’s car. She earned a reputation in high school as being brilliant but easy. She had a habit of sleeping around, but she didn’t care. It made her feel validation, wanted. 

Lili has a hard relationship with food, and has since she was a teenager. She’s struggled with disordered eating for around a decade and she has a lot of good days, but when the bad ones hit, they hit hard.

In present time, she’s been fooling around secretly with a few of her professors, and she’s a stripper. She is employed by a hot spot strip joint in Seattle, and when she’d not doing that, she’s studying to get a PhD in astrophysics. She makes good money, being one of the club’s top girls, which helps pay for her school, her apartment, and any other expenses that arise.

For Ginny, the only family she’d ever known was the one she was adopted into. She was given up straight from birth, and was adopted by Callie and Arizona while they were still together. She was always a happy kid, never having much to complain about. Her favourite thing to do was read, and force everyone around her to play the game Operation. She was the champ; that man’s nose never glowed red.

She was quite honestly every parents’ dream. Kept her grades up, stayed out of trouble. She helped out around the house. When her parents split though, she hit a rough patch. She just sort of shut down, and became more quiet and secluded. She wasn’t a complete disaster about it, but she always felt like she had to choose between them, no matter how much they said she didn’t. It was easier to just keep to herself. If she was at Callie’s, she didn’t talk to Arizona in so much as a text, and vice versa.

It wasn’t until she moved out on her own and got to make the rules that she started finding her voice again. The independence lit something in her. She was more outgoing, and really found herself through college. Her relationship with each of her parents grew separately, and she was grateful for that.

Ultimately, Ginny chose to follow both her mothers into the medical field, and has just begun her first year as a surgical intern at the hospital.
