Herbal Chinese Medicine Near  Arizona, a cornerstone of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), has been practiced for thousands of years, leveraging the therapeutic properties of plants and natural substances to promote health and treat illness. This ancient practice is deeply rooted in the philosophy of harmony and balance within the body and between the body and its environment.
Historical Context
The origins of herbal Chinese medicine date back to ancient China, with the earliest records found in texts such as the "Shennong Ben Cao Jing" (Shennong's Classic of Materia Medica), which dates back to around 200 CE. This text lists hundreds of herbs and their medicinal properties, forming the foundation for later developments in TCM. Over the centuries, herbal medicine evolved through empirical practice and scholarly refinement, integrating new herbs and formulations as they were discovered and tested.
Principles and Theory
At the heart Herbal Chinese Medicine Near  Arizona is the concept of Qi (vital energy), Yin and Yang (the dual forces that must be balanced for health), and the Five Elements (Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water) that represent different aspects of physiological functions and their interactions. Disease is seen as a result of imbalances or disruptions in these elements and forces.
Herbs are classified according to their energetic properties, such as temperature (hot, warm, cool, cold), flavor (pungent, sweet, sour, bitter, salty), and their specific effects on various organs and meridians (energy pathways). For example, ginseng (Ren Shen) is considered warm and sweet, beneficial for tonifying Qi and strengthening the spleen and lungs. Conversely, mint (Bo He) is cool and pungent, used to expel wind-heat and soothe the liver.
Common Herbs and Formulations
TCM practitioners typically use herbal formulations rather than single herbs to create a synergistic effect, enhancing therapeutic efficacy while minimizing side effects. One famous example is "Liu Wei Di Huang Wan" (Six Flavor Rehmannia Pill), a classic formula used to nourish Yin and treat deficiencies in the liver and kidneys. This formula combines six herbs, including Rehmannia root, Cornus fruit, and Dioscorea, each contributing to the overall balance and effect.
Modern Applications and Research
In contemporary times, herbal Chinese medicine has gained global recognition, with growing interest in its integrative approach to health. Modern research has focused on understanding the pharmacological properties of these herbs, aiming to validate their traditional uses and explore potential new applications. For instance, studies have demonstrated the immunomodulatory effects of astragalus (Huang Qi) and the anti-inflammatory properties of turmeric (Jiang Huang).
Challenges and Considerations
Despite its benefits, herbal Chinese medicine faces challenges such as quality control, standardization, and safety concerns, particularly regarding herb-drug interactions and contamination with heavy metals or pesticides. It is crucial for practitioners to source high-quality herbs and for patients to consult qualified TCM practitioners to ensure safe and effective treatment.
Conclusion
Herbal Chinese Medicine Near  Arizona represents a rich tradition of natural healing, blending ancient wisdom with modern scientific inquiry. By focusing on the body's intrinsic balance and using the natural properties of herbs, it offers a holistic approach to health and well-being that continues to be relevant in today's world. As research progresses, the integration of herbal Chinese medicine into mainstream healthcare holds promise for enhancing our understanding and management of health and disease.

How I designed my characters.
I decided to give my characters, brown eyes, and black hair with colored highlights, because I am Asian, and all Asians have the collectively same brown eyes and black hair. So, they have my genes of course.
Joy
I decided to give her overalls over a red shirt with a Chinese dragon on the sleeve, the overalls over a red shirt give her a tomboyish and childish appearance. It also gives you sense, she is adventurous and does not care about being messy, like she could get paint on herself, and she would be fine. The colorful bracelets make her seem artistic. The yellow star sunglasses and sunflower hairband show she is cheerful and playful. She also has the sunflower because she likes flowers. And the dragon on her sleeve on a red shirt shows her fascination with fantasy, mythology and Chinese culture. A planet surrounded by black on her sleeve, because she like electronic music and space.
Sadness
I decided to give her a sad poet, artist vibe, and she likes indie music, motherly animals, mythology and history. She likes motherly animals which is why her sweater is designed with whales, and she likes mythology and Chinese culture which is why she has a whale yin and yang. She has plusses in her hair because she likes learning health and medicine so she can help people. She has a book design with blue roses behind her whale yin and yang design to give her sad poet, artist vibes.
Disgust
Disgust always must be fashionable. She has a cherry blossom in her hair because she loves cherry blossoms. She has a magenta Chinese silk scarf. She wears a qipao. She wears a white coat, because she likes how it makes her feel clean and stylish.
Anxiety.
I gave Anxiety doomer vibes. It’s always my anxiety that puts me in doomer mode. I often feel very alienated from people and worry about being different, and being an outcast will lead to worse things happening to me and then I exaggerate it. I worry too much about the outside world. So, she has the nuclear sign on her sweater and hazard sign on her sleeve with poison dripping from the hazard sign and orange sleeve collars referencing Riley’s anxiety. She has a tight turtleneck grey shirt under her sweater, her sweater has a zipper collar, so she can hide her face. She has lightning bolt hairclips, because of her speed. She wears wilderness survival boots, just because. Her sleeves are a little bit oversized to hide her hands.
Ennui.
She wears a green plaid chiffon shirt over a grey undershirt, I saw this shirt in Hollister I wanted, but my parents only allowed me to get one piece of clothing. The plaid shirt is to give her Seattle vibes, because I live near Seattle. Her black jacket and cargo pants go with the nighttime garage Seattle vibe. She has a moon necklace and pattern on her phone, she likes how quiet the night is.
Envy
She has the two buns like what Chinese children wear, in two red bows, and a qipao like in traditional Chinese culture, she also wears the qipao because she admires disgust, the fluff in her dress is to add cuteness. She wears a strawberry hair clip to be cute. and she likes fruit. The hairclip and buns and bows represent her childish admiration nature. The braids, denim jacket, necklace represent her desire to be cool, but also her more petty nature. Selena Gomez says her favorite shoes are red converse shoes, so Envy wants to copy her. She wears a silver snake necklace with a black crescent moon which Ennui gave her, she sort of wants some black to be cool, her necklace has silver snakes, because snakes represent desire and that’s fitting for Envy.
Anger
I gave her a leather jacket for her headstrong rebel personality. I decided to make her female because I love female rebel characters. She has long flowy hair, because long hair I think it goes with a flowy, adventurous, rebellious personality.
Embarrassment
The sweater with a hoodie for Embarrassment is too fitting, so I could not change that. But his sweater has a whale on it, because Sadness knitted and sewed the sweater for him. The sweater is also oversized, going over his legs, he has more room in his sweater to hide in, he can even hide his legs if he wants to.
Fear
I really could not think of anything. Most of my fear manifests as Anxiety. I just thought of the zipper collar, and added suspenders because I like suspenders, and a brooch because it looks nice.
Nostalgia
I made her look like an Asian grandma, her hair is still white because she is old. She wears a Chinese silk scarf over a Hanfu dress.

Chapter 1: A Gentle Push
“Remember, even monsters enjoy eating sweets, and the gods have to take their medicine when they're sick.”
It was what Su Anjing's grandma told him constantly. It was to cheer him up, whenever he felt down or believed he wasn't "good enough". Admittedly, it was a silly saying, but it meant a lot to him.
Having been abandoned by his own parents after their messy divorce, and pretty much raised by his maternal grandma. He tried his best to make her proud. Especially seeing how much his grandma was struggling to make ends meet.
‘Waipo [1] should be enjoying her retirement, instead of having to work so hard to support me.’
He thought to himself, keeping his troubles in his heart. As much as they did sting, he tried to ignore them, smiling a bit when remembering his grandma's words. Although, his smile was hidden behind a blue medical face mask. He sighed to himself, as class ended for the day, and he quickly left. Pulling over his black, somewhat worn out hoodie, and headed off towards the bus stop near his school.
With the little money, his grandma secretly gifted him for Chinese New Year, knowing he’d put up a fuss about abiding by old traditions and not using the money for herself. He used it to buy a pair of cheap earbuds for himself, and a scarf for his grandma. Noticing it had gotten colder recently, he worried greatly about her health. Like grandma and grandson, she made a fuss about spending money on a scarf, when she could easily make one herself. Despite her harsh words, Su Anjing spotted her fondly wearing the scarf on multiple occasions. Whether she’d admit it to his face or not.
The earbuds he had bought were definitely the quality that he had paid for. Given that, only within a couple of days of purchasing them, one side broke, and so he could only really hear his music on his left side. Yet, for what it was, it kept him in his own little world and shoved aside the often long wait times for the bus to arrive.
‘So sweet like caramel~ Oh so refreshing and crisp! One bite is all it takes. My candy apple~♪’
An upbeat, cute pop song began to play in his ear, just as the bus arrived, rather early. Getting on and finding a seat near a window, he couldn’t help but feel rather tense. He nearly slipped on the metal floor and felt his cheeks burn a bright red when the other passengers were looking at him. He quickly pulled out his phone and delved himself deep into it, trying to not overthink on the matter and move on… if only that was so easy.
The bus ride home was rather long, over an hour, but thankfully it was the only one he needed to take. Staring out the window and at the scenery that flashed by, he thought how much he owes his grandma for everything.
‘I’m almost 20 now, I should be working and saving up for college and help waipo.’
Though the reflection of himself against the bus's window was not entirely visible, he noticed how messy he looked. He knew his grandma would’ve raised hell at him for leaving the house in such a disheveled state. He closed his eyes, listening to the bus’s metal walls shake as the bus drove across the uneven roads. The bus’s scent was a bit disgusting if he had to be honest, with what smelled like faint skunk spray and cigarette smoke. His grip tightened around his backpack, which he held on his lap, trying to shake away the memory of him almost slipping.
‘That was so embarrassing, why can’t I just walk normally? ’
He internally groaned at his mistake, pinching his arm to make him come to his senses. Only realizing afterward, that he had the same song playing since he got on the bus. Changing it to a calming instrumental melody to soothe his nerves, his mind continued to wander a bit as he glanced at the passing scenery.
‘Maybe I am stupid.’
He confessed to himself, wondering if his parents were justified in abandoning him. Yet as soon as that thought came to his mind, it was as if someone else had heard his thoughts and began "speaking" to him.
'Hey, that's not right! You're plenty smart, they're the stupid ones. What kind of parents abandons their own child?'
'I know that, but they're not wrong, are they? Who am I kidding, I'm talking to myself. I'm stupid AND insane.'
He silently laughed at his thoughts, yet there was a part of him that knew that his delusional thoughts were right. As if, responding back to his “friend”, he shifted closer to the window making room.
'I guess you're right, Abyssal. Thank you. Good thing you're here and not Divine.'
He held back his laugh, thanking his imaginary friend, as he thought she would've nodded at his response. Knowing full well that if it were her brother, he would have agreed and teased Su Anjing first, before offering a few kind words... if he wanted to. It seemed childish to still be thinking about, much less relying on an imaginary friend as a coping mechanism at his age. Especially given there were people his age, or close that were getting promotions, dating around, or simply "adulting" and here he was still playing pretend.
He fiddled with the sleeves of his hoodie, feeling how cold and slightly stiff the material was. He wondered why he couldn’t just believe in himself, like his classmates. At times, he wondered if his name was a bit of a curse, with two characters that basically mean the same thing: quiet. Yet no matter how many times he wished for a magic spell to change him into another person, reality was as cold and stiff like the sleeves of his hoodie.
‘That’s enough, I should look for any jobs nearby that I can apply for.’
He thought to himself, trying to strengthen his resolve, though he figured he would end getting rejected for one reason or another. But he tried to not let any of his other thoughts distract himself, even if they did pass the time on the bus, he disliked how they zapped away at his already subpar energy.
Opening up his phone, he looked through various jobs that were hiring, but many were too far from his school and home to be even viable to begin with. Ideally, he didn’t want to be too far away from his grandma, in case anything were to happen to her. After tweaking with the search results, there was one company that caught his eye and one which he recognized passing by on his way to and from school.
“The Sweet Abyss ”, a new candy store that opened up recently and had relatively positive reviews. All except for the fact that the job listing was rather confusing to say the least. It had two store names listed on the application for a stocker/cashier position. One being, The Sweet Abyss , and the other being “Divine Flower Medical Hall”. A part of Su Anjing wondered if the store owner or whoever in charge of publishing the job listing had made a mistake and included the name of the company that owned the building prior. But that doesn’t make sense, and Su Anjing couldn’t recall ever seeing a Divine Flower Medical Hall.
Granted, his memory wasn’t the best, but such a unique name for a store would’ve caught his attention, or at the very least, his grandma would’ve visited the store at least once. Due to the fact, it sounded like it sold traditional Chinese herbs, which she often commented how there were no stores nearby that sold them. Being the ideal demographic that believes in holistic medicine, he found it strange she never mentioned about a store so close by. Which only confirmed his suspicions, when he couldn’t find any information about it. In fact, his search engine AI thought he wanted to write a story and complimented him how unique sounding the name was. So helpful. Not.
As a last ditch attempt, he even tried typing the translated version of “divine flower”, ‘神花’, into his search bar. Yet nothing about Shen Hua Medical Hall yielded any result. It felt suspicious, but the job offer for The Sweet Abyss was really tempting.
It was the only job that was convenient for him, and its location made it ideal given his circumstances. Although he knew he probably wouldn’t get it, given it was a candy store for goodness’s sake. Most people would want a job like that, especially those who had a sweet tooth like him, and it was a brand-new store. He figured the employer was probably looking for someone with at least a year or two of experience, like with other job listings.
‘I should just do it, right? There’s no harm in applying…'
He agonized to himself, while he began to input his details into his application and when he knew he had his day open for an interview. Moments after submitting his application, a wave of regret washed over him.
‘Oh god, what have I've done? Was putting that I was available to interview for today sounded too desperate? Should I have just put next Monday or Thursday?’
His hand slightly trembling as his head was filled with “what-ifs” situations of things going terribly wrong or him missing the interview. Yet before panic could set in, his phone made a light chime, as he received a notification. He thought it was nothing, but when his phone lit up, the first thing that came up was : “Stocker/Cashier position at The Sweet Abyss/Divine Flower…” , catching him completely off guard. He hesitated for a moment, but tapped on the notification, which led to his email automatically opening.
------
[ From Lucius : Good afternoon, Anjing Su [2] I just received your application for the Stocker/Cashier position at The Sweet Abyss and Divine Flower Medical Hall from Y.E.S. Will you be able to attend an interview on location at 2:40 pm? ]
------
‘Is this a scam? But how would they have known?’
He thought to himself, wondering if he should respond. When he checked how far away he was from his house, he realized that he was exactly 10 minutes away from The Sweet Abyss . Sure, it could’ve been a massive coincidence, and the travel distance was an estimate. Most of the time it was barely ever accurate, due to delays or traffic. Yet at the moment it sent chills down his spine at how quick the response to his application was, and on top of it, he felt as if the recruiter knew how far he was away from the store. Otherwise, why else would they ask to meet exactly 10 minutes later?
‘No, I must be overthinking things. That’s too farfetched, even for me.’
He shook his head at his thoughts, glancing at the time once again. Three minutes had passed that quickly, and so worried about seeming rude, especially as he felt like he should give it a shot. He quickly typed up a reply, as he got nearer to his stop. Within the last second before he grabbed his things to get off the bus, he managed to send in a reply at 2:39 pm exactly. Sprinting off of the bus and to the front entrance of The Sweet Abyss , just in the nick of time. He panted, trying to calm his nerves and his breathing.
Yet no matter how much he tried to rush himself to calm down, his heart was still pounding in his ears and his brain was a garbled mess. He realized he hadn’t prepared anything, and on top of that, he looked like a disheveled mess. All because he thought he was just going to go to class and return home for the day. So he wasn’t dressed “professionally”, prepared, nor was he even remotely calm to be in any way to function, much less speak coherently. With less than what felt like 5 seconds to try to calm himself, a loud fluttering of what sounded like feathers swooshed by his ears. As gasps from pedestrians nearby him spoke amongst themselves, passing by as a rather large raven had landed onto Su Anjing’s shoulders. Its claws only held onto the fabric of his sweater, barely deep enough to cause him physical harm or discomfort.
He froze, unsure if he should move or stay still. He wondered how in the world did this raven mistook him for a perch and also prayed for it to move so he could enter the store as he was now a minute late. Yet, despite trying to send the Raven desperate eye signals, or trying to remain as still as possible. The raven continued to sit on his shoulder, as if it were waiting for him to move. Taking a deep breath, he urged himself to enter the store, thinking that the raven will fly away. At that moment, a soft chime of a bell that hung at the corner of the door rang. Looking into the store, it was shrouded in an impenetrable darkness, which was odd given it was the middle of the afternoon and the store should be open.
In fact, the door was unlocked, which only led to the situation being rather strange. But before Su Anjing could pull away and close the door, worried that he might be trespassing. It felt like an invisible force was trying to pull him into the store, and though he struggled to resist. Something else knocked into his back, sending him face-first tumbling into the endless abyss.

Author's note: Although this isn't exactly my first post on this account, this is the first time I'm using Tumblr to share my stories on. I'm not sure if I did it correctly, but I hope you liked this chapter. I posted this on my Ao3 account, with the same horrendously long title. ^^; I figured to give this a shot, as per my friends' recommendations. Ultimately, I wanted to share my story with someone and get outside feedback, as I've spent far too long agonizing and flopping through different ideas. Hopefully, by posting this story here (and Ao3) I might be able to finish it someday, or at least get past the first chapter and not restart… again. Thank you for stopping by!

In our Spa in Sola we carefully evaluate the client's preferences, medical history, and unique concerns. This enables our expert massage therapist to tailor the method and design a unique treatment plan that meets the demands of the client. Then a necessary warm-up is done before beginning massage therapy, just like before any physical exercise. In order to warm up the muscles and encourage relaxation, our therapist will lead you through a series of mild stretches or movements. This guarantees that the muscles are receptive to the therapist's touch and helps the body get ready for the next massage. Then our therapist applies some essential oil on your body parts for smooth massage and uses varieties of massage techniques with help of their hand, forearms, palm, fingers, thumb etc. During this session you can feel much kind of massage methods which makes you feel deeply relaxed. You can discuss with our therapist to focus more on specific part if you feel discomfort.
In the end the massage therapist will gently transition the client back into a peaceful state. Instructions and suggestions for post-massage care are given with the intention of maximizing the advantages from the therapy. It's frequently advised to stretch, drink plenty of water, and engage in self-care routines to extend the benefits of the massage.
How the Magic of Thai Massage is Beneficial?
Increased Range of Motion and Flexibility: Thai massage targets muscles and joints with a sequence of stretches and yoga-like movements. This is advantageous for people who are stiff or have limited mobility since it helps to improve flexibility and range of motion.
Relaxation and Stress Reduction: Deep relaxation is facilitated by the rhythmic pressure and mild stretches used in Thai massage. Endorphins are released when the body is massaged, which elevates mood and lowers tension.
Pain Management: Back pain and tension headaches are two chronic pain disorders that Thai massage can help with. Stretching and acupressure work together to help lessen pain and release muscle tension.
Better Blood Flow: Thai massage improves blood circulation through the body's manipulation. Better circulation improves the flow of nutrients and oxygen to tissues, which benefits general health.
Improved Focus and Mental Clarity: Thai massage at our Spa near Sola incorporates both physical movement and relaxation, which can improve focus and mental clarity. After a session, many people say they feel more present and focused.
Enhanced Immune Response: Some studies indicate that regular massage, including Thai massage, may benefit the immune system; nevertheless, additional research is required. The general function of the immune system may be enhanced by the relaxation that the massage induces.
Conclusion:
Massage therapy is now a necessary tool for leading a balanced, stress-free life rather than just a luxury for the wealthy. We Blue Sea Thai Spahave examined the great science, extensive history, and amazing advantages that this age-old practice provides in this blog post. Traditional Chinese medicine talks about tea, have you been drinking it correctly?
Tumblr media
When I was young, I only knew of two types of tea: "big bowl tea" and "Biluochun" tea. Later, I learned about tea because of studying traditional Chinese medicine and discovering that tea is also a type of medicine. For example, the Chuanxiong tea blend is recorded in the "Essentials of Materia Medica": "Tea leaves have a bitter and sweet taste. They enter the Hand and Foot Shaoyin, Taiyin, and Jueyin meridians. They are effective in clearing the heart and lungs, purging the intestines and stomach. When combined with chamomile, it can treat headaches; when combined with ginger, it can relieve water retention and stimulate the bladder and kidney meridians when consumed after drinking alcohol." However, tea is ultimately cold in nature, and since my body constitution is weak and cold in the spleen and stomach, I remember drinking Pu-erh tea once and having to go to the bathroom halfway through, so I rarely drink tea. But one chance encounter changed my perspective.
Recently, I went to visit a small shop near the Wudaoying Hutong next to the Beijing Yonghegong Temple. The shop owner is a good friend of mine who invited me to try Biluochun tea. This is a type of green tea, and at the time it was dinner time, so how could I dare to drink green tea on an empty stomach? So I politely declined. But my friend said, "Just take a sip, I guarantee it won't be too cold." She said that this tea comes from an 80-year-old tea tree growing on a sunny mountain in Dongting Lake. This is the first crop of early spring tea picked by hand and processed with firewood, so it is not like other green teas. Unable to resist her persuasion, I sat down and tasted the Biluochun tea. After drinking a few cups, I was surprised to find that my stomach and intestines felt slightly warm and comfortable, with no signs of diarrhea. I let out a few belches and felt quite comfortable, and even had a slight feeling of fullness. I stayed until 8pm, drinking the tea on an empty stomach, without any discomfort, and even feeling slightly full without hunger. The warm tea entered my stomach and I broke out into a light sweat, feeling very comfortable. Later, my friend gave me some Biluochun tea, and every time I drank it, I felt the same way, so it seems to be no coincidence.
This chance encounter changed my understanding of tea, especially green tea, and reminded me of an elderly person who once said that his father, who was over ninety years old, had been drinking tea his whole life and lived a long and healthy life, as did many other elderly people. At first, I thought it was due to their physical constitution, but now I see it's not entirely the case. Recently, I've been thinking carefully and have had some realizations.
Although the nature of tea is generally cool, ultimately its temperature can be influenced by two factors: first, the growth environment, whether it is in a relatively yin, cold, and humid area or a warm and sunny one. Just like the difference between grapes grown in the north of China and those grown in Xinjiang, or the difference between two types of Chinese medicinal herbs called niuxi: Sichuan niuxi promotes blood circulation, while Henan niuxi nourishes the liver and kidneys. Similarly, ginseng grown in the northeast is warm in nature, while American ginseng is cooler. These differences in nature are due to their different growing environments, including temperature, sunlight, soil, and planting methods.
Second, the processing methods are also important. Most teas need to be withered and then undergo a process called "kill-green," which involves roasting with fire. Traditional Chinese medicine believes that medicinal herbs and raw herbs that have been processed by fire have different cold, hot, warm, or cool properties. For example, raw licorice has a cold and cool nature that can clear away heat and detoxify, while roasted licorice can tonify the spleen and supplement qi. Raw rehmannia has a cool nature that can cool and activate blood, while steamed rehmannia has a slightly warm nature that can nourish the kidneys. Most herbs that have been processed by fire tend to have some warm properties, depending on the specific method of fire processing, which can even vary between using firewood or an oven.
There are many steps involved in tea processing, and many of them involve using fire, either by roasting or steaming. The tea processing method determines the warmth or coolness of the tea. I used to think that fermented teas, such as black tea and Pu-erh tea, were not cool, but that was because I didn't understand the fermentation process of tea. Tea fermentation is usually done by spreading the tea leaves flat and letting them sit at room temperature of around 25 degrees Celsius, so it's different from using fire. Therefore, to sum up, the warmth or coolness of tea depends on the environment and processing method.
In light of this, people with a cold constitution are not necessarily unable to drink green tea, while some fermented teas, such as Pu-erh tea, may not be suitable. Therefore, finding the right tea for oneself and knowing the principle of moderation is the key to health.

Walkabout Traditional Vietnamese Medicine in Da Nang, Vietnam
youtube
I recently had the opportunity to visit the Da Nang Traditional Medicine Hospital, a remarkable institution committed to preserving and practicing traditional Vietnamese medicine. Nestled in the heart of Da Nang, this hospital offers a unique fusion of ancient healing techniques and modern healthcare services, attracting both locals and international visitors. Stepping into the lobby, I immediately noticed the tranquility—a stark contrast to the usual hustle and bustle of typical hospitals. It’s a serene space that embodies the hospital’s focus on harmony and holistic well-being, considering not just the physical but also the mental and emotional aspects of health.
I’ve had my fair share of experiences with traditional medicine, with results ranging from mediocre to surprisingly effective. From massages to acupuncture, my interest was piqued as I toured this expansive facility. The hospital is more than just a single building; it’s a network of specialized centers, including a downtown treatment hub. The hospital’s grounds are vast, much more spacious compared to the compact city center, providing a more relaxed environment.  I was thrilled to accept their invitation to film some of the unique treatments they offer.
Traditional Vietnamese medicine, with its roots stretching back over 2,000 years, is deeply influenced by Chinese practices but has evolved its own distinct identity, integrating indigenous knowledge and local herbs. The practice revolves around balancing the five elements—wood, fire, earth, metal, and water—alongside the principles of yin and yang, aiming to harmonize the body’s internal environment with the external world.
One of the fascinating features of the hospital is its pool, which is used for both therapeutic exercises and swim lessons for children. It’s refreshing to see such facilities that blend traditional and modern healthcare approaches. The hospital’s focus on rehabilitative treatments was evident in the neurological rehabilitation unit, where I met Dr. Linh, a specialist in the field. He explained that the hospital serves 20 to 30 patients daily in this department alone, showcasing the high demand and importance of their services.
Vietnam’s diverse flora provides a wealth of medicinal plants, many unique to the region. The hospital even teaches patients how to grow and use these medicinal herbs at home, integrating gardening as part of stroke rehabilitation therapy—a wonderful way to blend physical recovery with traditional practices.
The highlight of my visit was the hospital’s traditional medicine kitchen, an industrial-scale facility dedicated to preparing herbal remedies. Here, herbs are dried and processed using massive heaters before being transformed into various medicinal concoctions. Herbal medicine is the cornerstone of Vietnamese traditional medicine, with a history dating back over two millennia. The hospital’s pharmacy boasts an extensive collection of herbal remedies, many grown right on site. Patients receive personalized prescriptions tailored to their specific health conditions, formulated by experienced herbalists who continue to build on centuries of knowledge.
Another unique experience was the Dragonfire Moxibustion therapy. This traditional practice involves burning moxa, or dried mugwort, near the skin to enhance blood circulation and boost the immune system. I was invited to try it myself for some lower back pain that has plagued me for years. The sensation was surprisingly soothing—an unusual mix of warmth and coolness, much like the feeling of using an icy-hot patch. It’s fascinating how this ancient technique, adapted over time to suit local conditions, continues to provide relief in the modern age.
The hospital also offers hyperbaric oxygen therapy, where patients breathe pure oxygen in a pressurized chamber to promote healing. I was amazed to find such advanced medical technology integrated into a traditional medicine hospital. This combination of ancient wisdom and modern science exemplifies the hospital’s holistic approach to healthcare.
In addition to traditional therapies like acupuncture and acupressure, which are used to treat a variety of ailments from chronic pain to digestive issues, the hospital’s facilities are designed with patient comfort in mind. From air-conditioned rest areas to comprehensive rehabilitation centers, the hospital’s commitment to patient well-being is evident in every detail.
Visiting the Da Nang Traditional Medicine Hospital was a truly eye-opening experience. The dedication to combining traditional practices with modern healthcare solutions is impressive, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to share this journey with all of you. The hospital rarely grants filming permissions, so being able to document and present these unique therapies was a privilege. As the field of health tourism continues to grow, I hope more people will explore the benefits of traditional Vietnamese medicine.
Thank you to the hospital staff allowing me this behind-the-scenes look into an institution that honors Vietnam’s rich medical heritage while embracing the future of healthcare.
