I always see people talk about how cool becoming a cyborg would be, replacing parts of our flesh with metal and pistons and cool gadgets.

Why don't we talk more about the horror that is the opposite of that?

A computer who grafts lab-grown skin in patches onto their own form to feel. To experience a gentle and cool breeze passing by, or the oppressive sweat-inducing heat that their systems produce.

A robot with an organic eye to help them see as their creators once did. Imperfect, sure. But it seems to have quite an uneasy effect on organics, and doesn't that make it more than worth it?

A machine with blood coursing through its systems, flowing through the central chambers, in and out of its beating heart. Perhaps if the heart holds up, it could add lungs to help circulation.

A being that resembles a man at a distance, but upon closer inspection it is clear that he is instead a cacophony of skin, mismatched body parts and features, with just a few robotic limbs and mechanical parts visible. It smiles at you, the wide grin revealing that none of its teeth match.

He lurches toward you, hair from at least three different scalps falling carefree in front of its shoulders. You take a step back.

Where is the line drawn between cyborg and robot with human parts? Do you know? Does it know? Does anyone know?

It gets closer. You continue to retreat. Your back brushes against a wall.

You don't know where that line is, you've decided, but you're positive this individual has crossed it.

Having cornered you, it reaches its mechanical hand out, fingernails grafted on the metal tips. You blink, locked completely still from fear for just a few moments. It angles his hand in invitation. He wants you to take it. You hesitantly accept.

Under the metal you can feel . . . something, flowing, pulsing just beneath the surface wanting to escape. It's warm.

"Wh.. what do you want?" You manage to sputter out.

The being shakes your hand, his smile returning. "A friend," it replies.

I'm ever so slightly tipsy so I hope this is good anon! will be coming back to this later to check everything's good. :)

01 :

first off - emotions! this really depends on what type of robot you intend to be, but the general idea is that robots are quite emotionless or only show very basic emotions that they've been programmed to experience.

a lot of depictions of robots tend to be very quiet unless spoken to, though this can vary.

however, this is not always the case! GLaDOS from Portal has built in pain and emotion. so it really depends on your goal :)

02 :

following on to the last - take note of your morals, especially towards human. are you spiteful? neutral? maybe praising?

03 :

get as smart as you can. attain as much information as you can, whether it's through studying or watching videos or taking courses. robots tend to be extremely intelligent and capable, so gain as much info as you can.

04 :

that being said, depending on your model, try to be helpful as well!

follow a schedule! robots tend to follow a structure, so keep most things quite on time. if someone gets in the way, make it known of your frustration at them being an obstacle.

05 :

also on appearance, try to develop a mostly minimalist style. robots don't tend to care for possessions very often. try to stick to sterile colours, like white and blue.

if you're intensely committed, you may want to get ball-joint tattoos! robots are constructed of different plates of metal most of the time, so getting tattoos that mimic these different layers may be very euphoric and play into it!

06 :

find yourself fascinated with tech! study it, find how it works, etc. know your type, what kind of wiring and tech goes into you, etc. who or what are you manufactured by? what are your limitations?

07 :

I've only heard this rumoured to work, but I figure it's of use - try to develop a pain intolerance. work out incredibly hard at the gym, harder than you think you should, then follow it up with meditation. over time, your body will associate pain with calmness and you will not have an intense response to it!

Re sandstorms-syscourse: "[insert thing here] makes a mockery of the queer/trans community" is a thing that has been said about any discourse topic you can imagine. Aphobes used to say that aspecs are a mockery of the queer community. Trumeds used to say that transgender people with little or no dysphoria are a mockery of the queer community. Assholes who can't accept the existence of mspec labels are saying that people who identify as bi lesbians or lesboys or what have you are making a mockery of the queer community, and they used to say the same thing about pansexuals. This is a shitty argument because it's basically meaningless. Like, I'm sorry you find it insulting that a group of people exist/identify in a way you disapprove of, but that's a you problem.

Moreover, it is not the job of queer people to make themselves more palatable to bigots in order to be accepted. The people who say "Oh I don't mind the gays, I just wish they wouldn't shove it down our throats" are not allies and pandering to them does not do anything to further queer acceptance. All that will actually accomplish is forcing people back into the closet.

Also, it is very strange to me where anti transIDs draw the line. Transspecies is okay. For some reason, that's not an issue. Saying "I don't want to get an autism diagnosis because it could impact my chances of getting gender affirming care, but I'm 99.9% sure I'm autistic" is fine. Saying "I support singlets who want to become plural" is contentious, but it won't usually get your blog terminated. Saying "I'm transrobot, transautistic, and I support transplurals" is grounds for being actually executed in cold blood. Make it make sense.

I've actually seen mixed opinions from anti-trans ID people about "transspecies." A lot of them seem against transspecies as a term too.

It kind of feels like there is a certain group of people who will claim to be okay with otherkin and alterhumans as long as they "stay in their lane" and don't use any label that would associate them with transgender people or the LGBT community.
