Underwater operation

Three inches of rain last Thursday left a swamp where my neighbor's hunting grounds used to be.

A tree root was obstructing the free flow of a drainage creek that runs through his property, forcing water everywhere. It had to be addressed.

Although neither of us had ever actually submerged the bar of chainsaw in water, we deduced that since some spear fishermen use chainsaws to cut holes in the ice, it must be doable.

And it was. The creek is flowing better now. The saw is resting peacefully, recovering from its cold bath.

Jasper National Park, AB (No. 18)

Nestled at the base of Pyramid Mountain, which overlooks the town of Jasper in Jasper National Park, Pyramid Lake is one of 20 small lakes left behind by retreating glaciers in what's known as the Pyramid Bench area. Found at the end of Pyramid Lake Road, just 5 km (3 mi) from Jasper, the lake is a popular spot for fishing and paddling. It empties into the Athabasca River via Pyramid Creek. There are a number of hiking and mountain biking trails that connect the lake to the town and other natural attractions such as Pyramid Island and Patricia Lake.
