hi! Love your models alot and was wondering how you uv unwrap them so the pixel art in the texture look /like that/ I also want to incorporate pixel art into my models but the uv unwrapping part really trips me up 🙏
hihi ! yea UV unwrapping can be very tricky and methods vary a lot across model styles, but here's my process:
my models are fairly blocky, meaning that (most) shapes can be broken down into a few "sides". here I've used seams to split sonic's body into 4 sides, so i can then easily unwrap it and adjust the UVs. using seams is very very useful to speed up this process, and it keeps things clean.
this can be seen very clearly in every character's hands ^ basically turning them into lil papercrafts!
with pixel-art textures specifically, there's a few things to watch for: when you unwrap, blender will sorta just orient the UVs however it wants, so it's important to adjust all your UVs to be upright (or just 90-degree aligned), otherwise you'll end up with diagonal pixels. personally, i have all my UVs snap to pixels (UV -> Snap to Pixels -> Corner) to easily align them and make measuring pixel sizes between UV islands much easier, we don't want mixels!!
^ everything lines up perfectly !
this method does mean that i fiddle with pretty much every polygon to avoid pixel distortion .. a wiser person than i might know a good solution to this pshgjkfd. i try to have a rough pixel size in mind while modelling each part of a model, so that the mesh cooperates well with the textures.
when i start unwrapping a model, i create + assign the texture that i'll use, and then fill it with a checker pattern. this helps a LOT to check for pixel sizes and distortion during the process. then i can just start building the texture on top of this as i go.
i HIGHHLY recommend using the Pribambase blender plugin if you have aseprite for making textures; it links the two programs to let you edit blender textures on the fly, easily make new pixel-art materials, and adjust the world grid to your pixel size. vere good .

unsure if my ask went thru bc i didnt see the popup that said it sended over so i’m typing it out again
i NEEED NEEDD a tutorial on how you draw & design mechs bc the way you draw them is literally perfection in every way. this is from an anon who wants to make mech ocs but is unsure where to start theyre so complicated to design
dusting off my tutorial brain
my style of mech is very influenced by transformers (mix of different continuities and tf artists that I like) so I look at a lot of characters for inspiration
There's a lot of stuff you could add to it too like vents, pipes, antennas, fins, wires, joints, etc..
#in a mood to draw bots so weeeee#throws this and dies#am bad at explaining stuff so I try with visuals bleh#tutorial#mecha tutorial#i guess#asfjhasjh#my art

i love ur expressions so much!!!!! Is it alr if I ask for u to share ur drawing process, if u don’t mind!! If you’d rather not that’s fine too :333
I can try!
now this does assume I have a consistent drawing process which I don’t, but ill share what I do most often?
So first of course I have an idea

Then I do some sketchies to figure out what exactly I want the pose to be. I dont always do this except when the pose is tricky and/or im just not being lazy that day

Then I go through my sketching and refining process:

I usually do two or three passes and I try and flip it at least once throughout, to help make sure everything’s balancing. For the final lines I’ll usually make them a medium red that I then set to multiply, but if I plan on coloring the lines later i dont do that and just make them black. This is also the stage when I’m scrabbling about for reference images, here are some of the ones I used here:

I usually hunt down references after I do my initial rough sketch, so I already know what im looking for angle and shape-wise in the references. Now for coloring ill fill in the whole area I’m gonna color with a gray then start putting down flats on clipping mask layers (so they dont go outside the lines)

then for quick and dirty shading and highlights I’ll duplicate the flats, flatten them into one layer, then make them darker and bluer and generally futz with it untill ive got a good shadowed color profile down. I’ll repeat the process but making it all lighter for the highlights. Then ill take both those layers, make them masks, and start painting on the shadows and highlights over the original flats.

then the very final step is the Fussing Stage where I make a new layer or two over everything and start fixing mistakes, adding new colors, adding rim lights, messing with levels, color correcting, adding details like flowers, etc. etc.
this can take a very long time or no time at all, depending on how much effort I wanna put in.
Then I slap a background on it which is usually a solid color or a gradient because im a hack and have no idea what i’m doing and ta-daaaaaa, something kinda okay!

And that is one of the many ways I “fake it ‘till you make it” my way through art!

I didn't realize how yellow season 1 was until I started giffing. I actually think it's so fun learning new ways to de-yellow this show! This post brought to you by this channel mixer tutorial I stumbled across and just had to try it! Of course there are a million other color layers on this too but channel mixer really did give me such a great base!!
#i love a tutorial omgggg#love learning new things too#and like not to say the final product is perfect idk but i think it looks better than with the tint at least haha#also i love this scene#911 abc#learning to gif#week 3 i guess#lmaoo#bobby nash#evan buckley#hen wilson#my gifs

omg HOW DO U DRAW HAIR.... I've been trying forever to draw this one characters hair rt and it's driving me nuts
funny thing
I am notorious for not drawing a character's hair consistantly
I look at a lot of references, but things are always chaging lol
BUT ANYWAY, I'll show ya'll how I do it (:
using V as the victim model *click the read more*
starting off with the head
I'll mark off the hairline, but in the case of the Workers and DDrones, I'll use their helmets or headbands for their hairline
after that, I figure out where I will place their part, if needed
I'll block out their bangs using large shapes
add any side bangs
then fill out the main body of their hair
next I'll clean up any intersecting lines, so I don't have to fight them later, and add any little extra details
then I'll start adding randomish lines, breaking up the main peices
and add more to fill in the gaps
And done!
I tend to use quick, flowing lines when drawing hair, and encourage y'all to try the same
also practice with different lengths and types!

Tofu, where do you find pixel art jobs?
word of mouth and just being in the community / friends with pixel artists for many years (and also having a large following / reach)
hiring channel in my server cafe dot
work with indies, remote game jobs, reddit subs
reaching out to indie studios and shooting your shot (works better than you think, sometimes u just need the audacity)
there are some more niche ways based around certain communities. twitch pixel artists + streamers end up doing overlays and emotes for people. stream avatars commissions if you join the discord server for the app. it depends on your interests and communities
genuinely being a part of a community is helpful and people who like you will wanna commission you (as opposed to being 'that guy' who dms everyone like hey please commission me)
if you dont have an audience yet work on that. keep putting yourself out there and getting so big they cant ignore you

i see you have a little grain effect on all of your digital art that I've seen, and as a fellow krita user i NEEEEEDD to know how you do it bc it's just so scrumptious looking
OKAY SO you want to find a noise texture of your choice and upload it as a pattern here, in the upper left corner, I forgor what it’s called:

Then you can use the bucket tool to fill the whole canvas on its own layer. Then you want to make the blending mode or whatever “combine normal map”. I then turn the opacity down to like 5-10% depending on how it looks with the drawing :)))
Here are some close ups of that grain effect, the combine normal map option makes for some really fun and subtle coloring that I prefer over some of the other blending modes

I know it’s been a bit since you’ve done Ulthane stuff (I think), but do you have any tips on how to draw him? I’m still trying to get him right and I’m struggling so hard 🥹
Ulthane has such a complicated facial structure, and I've gotten used to drawing him in my own sort of way, so this isn't a 'how to draw Ulthane accurate to the game' tutorial, lol.
I've just made a few sketches with the process of how I draw his face. A simple 3/4 view is usually the easiest to practice with.

do you have any advice on drawing slugcats/scavs? i love how you draw both... sincerely...
i'm rising from the dead just to answer this one even though i'm not much of an adviser or a tutorial guy x) my style is not consistent and i just flow with most of things
but here's some tutorial-ish things
slugcats are just...blobs at this point in my style, i don't use many additional lines or smth for them
it's like this one "how to draw a rat" meme where there's only two steps: "draw any shape" "done"
scavengers are more complicated tho!
they have actual anatomy and as stated - i'm still figuring it out x) but at least it's fun
here's some other scavs i drew for a little example - a random one and kinda an OC of mine
i hope this helps even if just a little bit, i really have no idea how to explain my drawing process or give drawing advice :")
#nickeeart#askers: txt#tutorial#uhhh don't wanna put it in the main tag but fine i guess#rain world#i haven't drawn in a while so this might look just a little ugly#oh and thank you for the kind words<3

I used some stamp rubber sheet. It has a Kinda sticky side so you can literally just use a Pencil drawing, lay it on the kinda sticky side, and stroke with a knife. This way the pencil Transfers to the kinda sticky side and you have it mirrored on the sheet. After that you can Redraw the lines if needed and start carving it out.

In the end it should look kina like this
I just realized i didnt show you guys the patches i made with selfmade Stamps!

Dis is my lil cute trash Panda :3

This one is of a German punk band that you can translate to Nausea.. Or more like Vomiting stimulus ig lol.
The best part is that i can make even more of these as long as i have enough paint and fabric. WHO WANTS SOME TRASHPANDAS?
