Hi Littles!

I am having a small problem. If you all don't know, I'm non binary and don't really feel like "mommy" or "daddy" would work for me. So I went and searched for gender neutral terms thar could possibly be used. There were some from other cultures or a combination like "mapa" and those just don't sit well for me personally.

I thought of two that I do like. The two titles are Baba or Nomy (No-me). Or just a nickname of Twyla, like Twy. The last resort is being called CG or sitter since I'm not currently looking for a little of my own.

With this being said, I'd love you all to help me decide or if you have another suggestion!

I didn’t plan on living this long and I don’t really have much in terms of a life trajectory and to cope with this I am going to love my wife and continue to go to as many concerts as possible.

I went to two killer local shows this month and also maybe befriended one of my favorite North Carolina fifth wave bands (they’re called Moving Boxes and they’re very sweet NC state undergrads who just put out a killer album produced by Nick from TWY and mastered by Will Yip) and now I already have plans for ten (TEN!!!) tour dates plus probably another 3 or 4 local shows between now and the end of June. I have Foxing/The Hotelier/Glitterer next week at Cat’s Cradle, Origami Angel and Mom Jeans in DC in March, Wax Bodega tour plus Spanish Love Songs x4 in April, Hozier in May, and Aaron West/Future Teens x2 in June.

NC is officially my “home base” for shows at this point bc I can get to every major city in North Carolina faster or in the same amount of time it takes to get to my own state’s capital and I started making both friends and enemies here. But we keep getting mcfreaking skipped on tours!!!! So my ass is going to Detroit and Cleveland and DC and Philly and Boston for most of these!!! So much travel!!!

Omg ALSO we are going to Boston for my birthday for the future teens/Aaron west show and taking the Acela from Philly to Boston and I’m so excited I love trains. Man life is so good because the world did not end when I was a teenager.

The timing is finally right and I can respond to a tagged prompt!! @explosionshark tagged me asking for 5 songs I'm into recently, so let's see if I can actually remember any of them. I finally subscribed to a streaming service (Apple), so I've been digging into all sorts of random music corners I don't normally spend too much time in, so a couple of these picks are real big, obvious songs, but fall under the category of I don't think I've ever listened to this on headphones before??? Which is a very particular fun kind of novelty. For me.

GODDAMMITALL by The Wonder Years The Greatest Generation is ten years old and I am consequently made of dust. But this b-side that TWY unearthed and re-recorded like the two tracks they did celebrating The Upsides and Suburbia, I've Given You All..., is honestly probably one of the top five TGG tracks, which is saying something. TGG is my (and MANY others') favorite wonder years record, and this song fits in so squarely that I almost lose my mind every time I think about it. Like come on "I'm a sweater that you've given to Goodwill, or lied about and sent to the landfill" is a LINE. Also I am going to rip my vocals cords to shreds screaming the GODDAMMITALLs on that last chorus when I see them in the fall. Def Leppard-Photograph File this under one of those "I never listened to this song with headphones for the first 33-ish years of my life" songs. The production on this song is just fucking insane. It's SO tight. I recently read a theory breakdown of this song that Stereogum did, which I only understood maybe 50% of, but even with that 50%, I learned so much about why this song works the way it does. It is perhaps THE perfect hair metal song. IT JUST SOUNDS SO GOOD GUYS. THE ARPEGGIO GUITAR IN THE CHORUS.

The Pharcyde-Passin' Me By Another one of the I never listened to this on headphones before songs. I was introduced to this track via the Aggressive Inline video game soundtrack in the early 2000s (1. I know of ancient extreme sports video games you have only dreamed of and 2. yes I am one of the whitest people alive on earth). I always enjoyed it, but I had no context for it, and was just much more walled off from hip-hop when I was a young teen. But this song fucking slaps and the sampling in it is unparalleled. And the "my dear, my dear, my dear, you do not know me but I know you very well" verse lights up my brain in the best fucking way.

Hot Mulligan-The Song Is Called What It's Called I was always fine with Hot Mulligan, and enjoyed a lot of their songs, but never really got them. I am just too old and decrepit, and not young and hip enough to listen to the number 1 hot new band, but with this record I finally got it. Or HM is old enough now and has been at this long enough to make something more appealing to my ears, which is obviously what every band should strive to do. But this song in particular does it for me. It's mostly a road song, which I have a love for, but it just feels like a particular distillation of everything this band has been building towards their whole career. Why Should I Watch is a special one, and I hope whatever legacy they leave remembers it that way.

Bad Operation-What Keeps Us Moving This. Is. New. Tone. There's no other band out there doing what Bad Operation is doing. They coined a term for a new wave of ska, one that is truly diverse, accepting, and engaged in away it hasn't been since 2 tone in the 70's. And they did it while making the BEST ska of this decade, if not this century. They are my favorite current ska band, melding so many influences, remaining political in a direct way that still integrates with their music, and just making shit you can DANCE to. Also this is A Summer Song, fucking rock this shit at your next barbecue! No one is doing what Bad Operation is doing, I hope they make 75 more records, and also that I can finally see them live soon.

“Oh, my God, Twy—” Alexis wants to explain to Twyla her and Ted’s fallout, why making him jealous was the only logical choice she could come to in terms of getting him to stay the hell away from her, but before she has a chance to open her mouth, Twyla is gone. She searches around the room for her to run after her like a clichè Hallmark holiday romantic comedy except it's too late.

Most common argument?

hmmm! unlike my response for alexis/twyla, i don't think it's space in this instance. the nice thing about their situation is that if someone needs time together or space away, if one partner isn't up for it, they can try to find that with the other. for the three of them, i think it's more about a kind of fairness in their relationship, if that makes sense, and an acceptance that by the very nature of their relationship, there will be individual relationships within it that are unique. ted and alexis have a special bond from the years that they dated, and i think it takes time for twyla to come to terms with that and to feel confident that it doesn't mean they don't love her less. alexis and twyla have unique, similar experiences with trauma that i just rambled a lot about, and ted can't fully understand that even if he loves and supports them. meanwhile, ted and twyla grew up together and have a long, shared history that alexis can't relate to. once they find a way to let these unique bonds strengthen the relationship between the three of them, it gets easier to navigate the ebbs and flows of the dynamics within it.

Nicknames? & if so, how did they originate?

i def think they're keeping 'twy' and 'lex,' although ted is less likely to use 'twy.' i also have very strong feelings about twyla calling ted 'teddy bear' and it probably stemmed from when they were kids. alexis calls both of them 'babe' and likes to greet them as 'hey, babes.'

Who worries the most?

they're all worriers, even if alexis wouldn't ever admit it. but i think she secretly worries the most about losing the people who mean the most to her, and feels undeserving of both of their innate goodness. she hopes she won't ever screw things up to the point where that could happen.

Who initiates kisses?

alexis! but i think they're all very happy to receive them. :)

2 - Is there a trope I want to try my hand at but have yet to do so? Well, over the past 18 years and multiple fandoms, I’ve probably gone through most of them - but I haven’t done them for Blindspot, so...

I want to do a proper Only One Bed fic for Jeller, like a proper, awkward, ‘I don’t want to admit that I want you but now we’re sharing a bed and I like it’ kinda thing. I do have Jeller sharing a bed in TWY, but Jane’s in horrible pain and they’re pissed off at each other, so it’s not really the ‘good stuff’. :D

I also want to do some proper Jeller kink-fic, but my stupid brain is still stalling a bit there.

Oh, and ‘I had to kiss you as part of our cover for the case’.

And obviously Chocolatier Rich, because humour/really AU AUs aren’t something I do a lot.

6 - A writing weakness I have? I’m not very descriptive in terms of the five senses, I guess. My written style is more geared towards telling a story than painting a picture. Some writers are really good at giving the reader a sense of what everything is like, from the breeze in someone’s hair to what every blade of grass in a field is doing. That’s not me. I wouldn’t want to go overboard, but I do tend to skimp on description sometimes.

14 - Worst writing advice I’ve ever come across? “‘Don’t use the word ‘said’.” No, seriously. USE IT. It’s an invisible word. Vary it up occasionally, but people don’t notice it, especially if you don’t use dialogue tags for every line spoken. Otherwise you get ‘she hollered’ and ‘he laughed’ and other distracting things like that as dialogue tags, and they jar you right out of things.

20 - Perfect writing conditions? Sitting on the couch, laptop on lap, cosy blanket, cat asleep nearby, chocolate and a cup of tea on standby. And good friends to squee with in between writing sessions, of course.

Ok so i'm asking this cause i have no one i can ask :I often change my view on someones appearance after meting them and knowing their personalty, like i have meet people that i didn't find attractive , and after knowing them actualy find them cute , the reverse is also true , like there was a girl in my class that i hated , but if i looked at her long enough to separate the personalty from the person i had a "uau ,you are actually rly pretty" (is that a pan thing , all my friends say this doent

apply to them . I usually say that i’m bi because “if not giving a fuck was a sexuality that wold be me ” and “i like sex and occasionally i also like people” but since i realize i might experience attraction i have been confused ,I have no one that id as pan or even bi around me that i can bring my prob to (i always though that i was to sex driven to be pan but now i’m confused )

So Imma just start off by saying that sexuality is way too fluid and it’s hard to fit the mold of a certain label to the exact extent that is expected. Labels are weird and they don’t always fit perfectly.

I, myself, identify as Pan because I believe I fit into that mold the most, I ain’t a perfect Pan, but damn it I twy. (I am a child, lol). So I’ll be talking more in that point of view.

I understand the ‘changing the view on someone’s appearance after meeting them’ all too well. That is how I work, I don’t really find myself attracted to someone until I get to know them. Some would say that would make me Demisexual, but that doesn’t sound right to me since I don’t really need a very close and personal bond with the person in order to find myself sexually attracted to said person. And with the reverse, that’s just me knowing that “Oh, you fit the social standards of what attractive would be’. I’m not you, so I’m not sure if that’s what you’re feeling or not. 

Usually, people, like myself, with the ‘if not giving a fuck was a sexuality that would be me’ idea identify as Pansexual since the technical term for Pan is something along the lines of “Attracted to all genders/sexes”. 

And your sex drive doesn’t really fully determine what your sexuality is. Your sex drive is just something you either have or don’t have. You can be Pan with a very high or very low sex drive, it honestly doesn’t matter in that sense. 

I hope my little spiel helps you out at least a little. I’m always open to talking more about this if you need. I also have a Discord and we’re all caring and supportive and are willing to talk with you too.

2000′s (mainstream) poppunk:

blink-182 - Enema of the state, Take off your pants and jacket, Self-tltled

Sum41 - All killer no filler, Does this look infected, Chuck (on Chuck there’re sometimes heavier riffs that remind me of Metallica)

Green Day (even tho BJA doesn’t like the term ‘poppunk’) - Dookie and  Nimrod (90′s still), American Idiot, 21st Century Breakdown, Revolution Radio

Good Charlotte - Self-titled, The Young and the Hopeless, Youth Authority, 

New Found Glory (personally i’m not really into them)

American Hi-Fi (they always remind me of American pie movies)

AFI (they changed styles a lot tho)

Perhaps the biggest question The Wonder Years try to answer with their songs is “who am I and how do I fit into this life I’ve found myself in?” Obviously, those are questions that we all wrestle with at various points in our lives, and that uncertainty weaves its way through almost every song the band has written.

“Passing Through A Screen Door,” off of The Greatest Generation, pushes that anxiety to the forefront. After more than three years almost constantly on the road, Campbell is questioning whether being in a band professionally has been the right choice. It’s hours upon hours of driving, monotony, states away from home for weeks at a time. He misses so much while he’s away, and it’s a kind of arrested development. This life has changed him, but is it actually getting him anywhere? Because all these people he graduated with are married with kids, own homes, have stable jobs with steady incomes, and he’s doing the same thing he’s been doing since he was 20, and it doesn’t afford any stability. The whole thing could go off the rails tomorrow, and then what would he be left with? Everyone has their shit together, why can’t he? And is it because he has always been fundamentally different? Or has this life changed him into this person who’s always itching to leave and is terrified of something steady?

I’m 28, the prime age for everyone I know to get married and start families. And while I’m not in a band, being trans and queer sometimes feels like it has left me falling behind my peers. Because rationally, I know that I didn’t really start my life until I came out at 20, and my second puberty didn’t start until I was almost 24, so I can’t measure myself up against traditional milestones of adulthood. I drifted around for years not knowing what to do with myself, taking shitty retail and food service jobs to get by, not having the luxury of being able to not work in order to take the time and figure it out. I luckily found something a couple years ago that has put me on some vague sort of career path, but it’s so difficult to not compare myself to my friends and wonder where the fuck I messed up so bad. (spoiler alert past/present self: it has a lot to do with generational wealth, which you very much do not have). I have a long term partner, but we aren’t the marrying type, and we are definitely not the having kids type, and even though we are both sure in our decisions, it’s still hard not to feel a bit of a tug from heteronormative nuclear family culture telling me I’m wrong for not wanting those things.

So much of what TWY writes is about that push and pull, of wanting to be sure about yourself and what you want, but never knowing if that’s the right choice, the answer most likely being that you’ll never know. And as you get older, trying to get more comfortable with never being certain, and just trying your best to do right by yourself and the people you care about.
