Leon hums thoughtfully as he hooks an arm around Matthew’s calf, resting his head against his leg.

Matthew sighs and runs his fingers through Leon’s sleep mussed hair, “Good morning.”

“Morning.”

“How are you feeling?”

“I’m fine,” Leon looks up, “You?”

“Fine, I guess,” Matthew forces a smile before stepping off the porch to pet Bowie who had come bounding up to them.

Leon watches the lines of Matthew’s body as he picks up one of Bowie’s balls and chucks it across the expanse of grass. He’s wearing one of Leon’s hoodies and a pair of sweatpants that Leon couldn’t even remember who they belonged to originally. Another deep breath as Leon buries his face in his hands. It all would come back here eventually, just like it did last time. That didn’t mean that it was any less overwhelming currently, though. 

“Hey,” Matthew says quietly, kneeling on the grass between Leon’s legs. He gently takes Leon’s hands in his, “You know I love you.”

Leon looks up and nods, “I love you, too.” 

There’s not much to say that they haven’t already said. After this Matthew would go back to the hotel with his team, and they probably wouldn’t talk until after the cup had been lifted. Leon really tried not to think about how last time it was over a month before they did.

“We’ve got this,” Matthew grins as his his hands wander over Leon’s legs, taking the time rubbing a spot here and there, “You take care of yourself, okay? Need you in one piece on the other side of things.”

“Guess you’d better tell your guys to take it easy on me, then.”

“In your fucking dreams, Draisaitl.”

Leon smirks, “Well. Worth a shot.”

“Come on, lets go make some coffee,” Matthew heaves himself to his feet, and taps his bare foot against Leon’s, “Weirdo.”

“Takes one to know one,” Leon says with a pointed look at Matthew’s own feet as he follows him back towards the door, Bowie trotting at their heels. 

Matthew sticks out his tongue as he walks backwards into the kitchen and Leon rolls his eyes, but smiles anyways.
