Series-Uchouten Kazoku 2    (The Eccentric Family 2)     Episodes-12       Subbed          Premiered-Spring 2017          Studio-P.A.Works
(spoilers?)
This is a very story wise and visually unique show. The animation continues to be smooth with beautiful backgrounds. The voice acting is still good and each characters voice feels specialized. The characters continue to develop and go through new stages in their lives. This season had even more shocking moments than the last and a few sneaky plot twists. Yaichirou also got married to the introduced character, Gyokuran, and even though she only just showed up in this season (atleast I think so) she didn’t feel forced just for the sake of having a romantic interest. Yasaburo and Kaisei are also kind of confirmed now? I’m very happy about that though, they have an interesting dynamic. I also liked the character Kureichiro (the real one). I’m not sure though when it was the real Kureichiro or Soun during the beggining. I imagine from the point he was “killed” he permanetely took that form and before that probably did it occasionally but being “killed” gave him an excuse to disappear. I really enjoyed this season and it really expanded on the previous one.
(also I kind of feel bad for Benten, I mean GEEZ that was intense)

Anime of the Decade: 2010s, and Other Reflections
Ambitious project I tell you, but it’s easier when I start off by listing my top 3ish series per year :3
Anime of the Decade: So the bolded titles would be like my CLEAR winner for that year. Some have none, and some have more than one, just because I truly could not choose.
2010: Durarara!!, Kuragehime, Nodame Cantabile
2011: Chihayafuru, Fate/Zero, Hunter x Hunter
2012: Hyouka, Sword Art Online
2013: Kyoukai no Kanata, Log Horizon, Nagi no Asu Kara, Silver Spoon, Uchoten Kazoku
2014: Aldnoah.Zero, Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun, Haikyu!!, Mushishi, Noragami, Your Lie In April
2015: Arslan Senki, Fafner: Exodus, Hibike Euphonium
2016: Boku dake ga Inai Machi, Bungo Stray Dogs, Macross Delta, Sangatsu no Lion, Showa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu
2017: Ballroom e Youkoso, Mahoutsukai no Yome, Made in Abyss, Sagrada Reset, Shoukoku no Altair
2018: Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card, Kakuriyo no Yadomeshi, Violet Evergarden, Wotakoi, Yuru Camp
2019: Carole & Tuesday, Fruits Basket, Kono Oto Tomare!, Kimetsu no Yaiba
Goodbye Forever: Just some manga series that ended this decade, I either really enjoyed the series and/OR I invested a lot of time in them (so even the ones with less than desired endings).
Fullmetal Alchemist (2001-2010)
Naruto (1999-2014)
Assassination Classroom (2012-2016)
Bleach (2001-2016)
Fairy Tail (2006-2017)
Gintama (2003-2019)
Unexpected Happenings: Just some major unexpected things happening this decade, for better, or worse. Probably left some things out, but this was what I got while scrolling through my past posts...
High and Mighty Color breaks up, 2010.
Kawakami Tomoko passes away, 2011.
Hunter x Hunter anime remake announced, 2011.
Ayaka returns after a hiatus of 2 years, 2012.
YUI retires from solo career, 2012.
Fafner new season announced, 2014
Digimon Adventure tri announced, 2014.
Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card manga & anime announced, 2016.
Wada Kouji, Digimon King Forever, passes away in 2016.
Code Blue gets 3rd season after 7 years, 2017.
Fruits Basket remake announcement, 2018.
Aqua Timez breaks up, 2018.
World Trigger returns after a hiatus of almost 2 years, 2018.
Utada Hikaru is back touring after 12 years of hiatus, 2018.
Kingdom Hearts III is finally released, 2019.
Kalafina officially disbands, 2019.
Next Twelve Kingdoms novel officially announced, 2019.
Kyoto Animation fire, 2019.
World Trigger new season announced, 2019.
Also: a whole bunch of artists have officially gone (initially private cuz everything got removed from YT) international/global and we can find them on Spotify T__T thank you ♥
It’s been a wild decade for sure! One good thing though was just the trend of remakes/reboots/new seasons that started for many beloved series after many years. Never would I have thought series like Hunter x Hunter or Fruits Basket would get a reboot, but here they are and they’re glorious.
EDIT: I watched Kimetsu no Yaiba in 2020, but since it’s a 2019 series, I added it in. It’s great!

Hey ever!! What other anime do you watch? :)
yo! Currently airing stuff: BNHA and Voltron, though I haven’t caught up yet. I also just found out there’s a season 2 of Kekkai Sensen and I am hyped as hell to watch that!!
I was watching Little Witch Academia, but s2 is kinda turning me off… I’ve been planning to catch up to 3-gatsu no Lion at some point… I watched and adored Uchoten Kazoku 2 earlier this year… and I think that’s pretty much been all my anime consumption so far in 2017?

Hogwarts house anime recommendations: HUFFLEPUFF
Okay, lately I’ve seen a few people doing book recommendations based on Hogwarts houses, and I thought it was a pretty fun idea. But I have yet to see any Hogwarts house anime recommendations, so I thought I would give it a try. Basically, these shows are what I feel embody the ideals of a certain Hogwarts house, have characters that seem like hardcore members of that house, or just give off a really strong house vibe. If you’re looking for something new or want to get into anime, maybe give it a try.
Starting with Hufflepuff
Some of the key Hufflepuff traits that run through these anime are hard work, loyalty, and strong family/ friendship bonds, which is why a lot of sports anime and slice of life shows jumped out at me. So here’s just a few.
1. Orange
Tumblr media
For those who haven’t heard of it, Orange is a pretty interesting story focuses on a high school girl named Naho Takamiya, who receives a letter from her future self depicting the events of her school life and relationships with her friends. Over time, Naho realizes that the letter is trying to make her correct her past mistakes and make decisions that will save the life of one of her friends, who in the future, has committed suicide.
This is definitely an anime that gives off an incredibly Hufflepuff vibe. Naho is 100% Hufflepuff material, and she shows it in every episode. While she isn’t particularly concerned about how the letter got to her, she cares so deeply for her friends and does so much to help everyone around her that no one really cares about the ridiculous explanation for how the letter arrived or any timeline discrepancies. If you like stories that are extremely heartwarming but also very depressing at times, this is a great Hufflepuff-esque show.
2. Poco’s Udon World (Udon no Kuni no Kiniro Kemari)
Tumblr media
This story revolves around a man named Souta Tawara who is returning to his small hometown from his career in Tokyo after the death of his father to take care of business and clean up his father’s old udon shop. In the udon shop, Souta finds the most adorable child in the world a child who turns out to be a baby tanuki, and wacky hijinks ensue.
Honestly this is one of the first shows I thought of for Hufflepuff when I had this idea. Yes, there are a million slice of life anime that give off a similar vibe (Tsuritama, Sweetness and Lightning, Tsuki ga Kirei, Flying Witch, Tanaka is always Listless, Barakamon, and even Ouran Highschool Host Club) but this is an anime that doesn’t get as much recognition, and it should! This anime is a great example of a show that tricks you into thinking everything is going to be fun and lighthearted, and then you’re sobbing by the last episode. Souta is a good example of a Hufflepuff who is struggling with the idea of doing what is right for him (i.e. his job in Tokyo that his family or friends didn’t really approve of) and family expectations (taking over the udon shop), which is a conflict that resonates a lot more with this generation. It also has a great cast of characters that exemplify the strong bond between family and friends that is essential to the Hufflepuff house. So if anyone is a fan of slice of life shows, this is a great one.
3. The Eccentric Family (Uchoten Kazoku)
Tumblr media
Okay, I don’t even know a good way to describe this one. Basically, it’s a show set in Kyoto about the relationship between the tanuki population and the tengu population and the tensions between the two species. It focuses on one tanuki family, with the main character Yasaburo navigating his way through various bizarre situations and living with the threat of being captured by the tengu and being eaten in a tanuki hotpot like his father was. Honestly, it’s really weird, and I don’t remember much about the first season. BUT the second season is absolutely amazing. It is incredibly creative, fun to watch, and a refreshing take on Japanese myth culture. Plus all the tanuki are freaking adorable.
This anime seems like it is set up as a slice of life, but it is definitely not, or at least it’s not by the second season. Yasaburo is more of an unlikely Hufflepuff to me, and I can see how some can argue that he is a Slytherin, considering he always has his own agenda and tries to smooth talk his way around every situation. However, he seems like the kind of person who doesn’t care what house he’s in, and in the end he wants what’s best for his family. This show definitely isn’t for everyone, but it’s so different and has a great style to it, and overall it just has an extremely Hufflepuff vibe to it.
4. Yuri on Ice
Tumblr media
Okay okay I know, this isn’t exactly unknown, but come on! Just in case, this anime involves the career of figure skater Yuuri Katsuki who works towards winning gold at the grand prix final after being utterly crushed at last year’s final with the help of his boyfriend/coach Victor Nikiforov. Honestly everyone knows what this show is about.
This anime just oozes Hufflepuff with how hard Yuuri works at his skating career, his loyalty to his family and other skaters, and overall kind friendly demeanor towards those he loves. Yes, Yuuri Katsuki is a Hufflepuff, and I will fight anyone who says otherwise. Yes, I could have listed various other sports anime like Free, All Out, and Haikyuu (which everyone should also check out). But I felt like YOI made more of an impact on me personally, and it’s something everyone should see because it doesn’t involve high schoolers trying to win nationals or whatever other sports competition that in the end doesn’t amount to as much. It involves a character’s actual career choice and future and all the emotional choices they are faced with, including battling serious self doubt and anxiety. It makes me sad that one of my favorite shows is part of the house that I’m not in.
5. Natsume Yuujinchou, aka Natsume’s Book of Friends
Tumblr media
Again, this one’s not exactly unknown, but it still doesn’t get as much attention as I think it should. This slice of life anime involves a boy named Natsume Takashi, who has the ability to see youkai or spirits. Basically, Natsume finds out that his deceased grandmother Reiko could also see spirits and apparently spent her teen years going around picking fights with them, capturing their names, and putting them in what she calls the Book of Friends. At first the show focused on Natsume returning various youkai’s names to them, but honestly, that has fell to the wayside in recent seasons with each episode being about Natsume and the youkai story of the week. AND IT’S AMAZING!
This anime has a knack for being incredibly calming and also super emotional at the same time. Again, I believe Natsume is a total Hufflepuff, who just wants to live his life, keep his family and friends safe, and do what is right while also not really caring about being brave or finding out all of Reiko’s secrets. He is also the most precious cinnamon roll you will ever encounter. So much hard work has been put into this story, and it will never get old. I would literally watch 20 more seasons of this.
So that’s just some Hufflepuff-like anime that jumped out at me. Even if no one reads this or finds it helpful, it’s pretty fun to think to think about.
Other house recommendations:

Gryffindor
Slytherin

I love Uchoten Kazoku!! But I'm on the fence about watching Season 2, do you think it is worth watching?
if you loved the first season, you’ll love the second one for sure! The story is great, it’s based on a novel from the same author of Tatami Galaxy: I love Masaaki Yuasa’s visuals but I think the more traditional and slow-paced animation style of Uchoten Kazoku fits this writer’s style even better. There are new very interesting characters and you’ll get to know more about feelings and motivations of the old protagonists.

A checklist of things to do for myself... #deletelater #maybe
read CCS Clear Card manga chapter 29 (and 30 when it’s out in a few days)
finish up whatever series are ending this season (actually, aside from TG, I dunno what else is ending this season, Irozuka Sekai??? everything else seems to be continuing)
finish re-reading 12 Kingdoms (completed 2 books so far, took a break and re-watched the whole series instead... lol)
finish one of those other things I started re-watching/reading and stopped (i.e. HxH, Macross Delta, World Trigger, Uchoten Kazoku...)
start and finish at least one series I saved from a previous season (hahahah...) I binged-watched Banana Fish omgsh and now halfway through Grancrest Senki, I wanna cryyyy T_T
work on a list of things to watch next season
work on a year-in-review post for 2018 anime??? #nostalgia
EDIT (1/1): I’ve accomplished more than half this list!!!! YESSSS!!
