So here I'm thinking I must be doing something wrong because I can't figure out how to make this UI dingus I'm working on do what it needs to do without generating two AJAX requests rather than one, then for the sake of comparison I load up an allegedly best-in-class enterprise CRM to see how it's handled there, and discover that an equivalent operation somehow manages to hit the server seventy(!) separate times, and you know what? I think I might actually be on the right track.

Instead, this utilizes a Reshade/Gshade add-on to remove the lot outlines and being able to do so whenever you want with just a shortcut. Requires Reshade/Gshade and the Shader Toggler add-on. Works on both DX9 and DX11.

this ask has been in my mind for a while but I never really got to do something with the idea- but here we finally are after uh.... 4 months or so. whoops
this is within the same au as the scugerators btw :)
feel free to come up with titles/names for them if you want, my mind is blank on that part
Suns: can shoot their quills like a porcupine if threatened
in case you can't read the writing:
Pebbles: can charge electric spears + temporarily stuns creatures with an electric shock (momentarily weakens him)
Moon: can jump really high and descend slowly at will. (don't ask how it works. IDK and frankly don't care)
Sig: has an armored back + overall sturdy. back deflects spears

i made an extended version of my cyberpunk text threads tool with themes that emulate different messaging interfaces, and the ability to customize the colors, fonts etc. i've seen at least one person on ao3 who was using the "minimal" interface for non-cyberpunk fics, so i thought i'd generalize it a bit more!
you can also now add centered, freeform timestamps (ie "Yesterday" and "Today" in the image above), hide the per-message timestamps, and/or use a 12hr format instead of the 24h-with-seconds format

i'm working on adding an avatars feature too :3 (edit: avatars have been added)
and here's a live preview of how these display on ao3!

A fun part of being deep into web UI development is starting to be able to tell by feel which specific tools a given site is using.
A not-so-fun part is the concomitant awareness of just how much of the public-facing Internet depends on Javascript libraries that haven't been maintained since 2012.

will also show my general ui/mock-up progress, for anyone curious. had a general idea of the screen division to start with, then tried to figure out more how it would look. i wanted there to be a heavier emphasis on it all being a sort of "stage" production to start with, so i initially had the idea to have an old roman stage on the left. ultimately i found this too distracting, though, so i ditched it; you can still see this influence in the scroll bar, whose base is a heavily simplified version of a roman pillar. lenora only got one sprite due to jam restrictions so i was figuring out how she should look throughout all of this (so that she could harmonize with the other UI elements). Everything was half trial-and-error, half looking up the UI of other games to see how they implemented things!

if anyone is wondering why loading screens seem to break and show the grey llama image instead of the plumbob, it's because they changed the instance number of one of the plumbob image assets from 6aec0ad1d1ed59c2 to 6aec09d1d1ed580a.

yeah, a simple change in the instance number is all you need to make a UI mod break, among a couple of other things 🥰 this happens if your loading screen mod only includes the ScaleFormGFX file (where you change the background) and doesn't include the plumbob image assets that has the old instance #.
how it works:
Mod includes an old GFX file and its associated image asset(s) w/ the old instance # -> UI doesn't break, game reverts to the old loading screen as a result. (Think of TMEX's Clean UI that keeps the old main menu design.)
Mod includes only the old GFX file, while the image asset w/ new instance # comes from the game files' itself -> UI breaks, there's now a disconnect between the old GFX file and the new image asset.
(more details on why/how ui mods break the way they do at some other time)
so in theory, if you are to import all of the older plumbob image assets (before 22 Oct update) into your loading screen mod and keep the old instance numbers as they were, your loading screen will "fix" itself because the GFX file in your mod can now find the image asset that it was tied to, or as stated on the 2nd point above, revert to an old version of the loading screen.
