Avoiding Running Again, Starting My New Training Plan Today, Accountability, and Building a Like-Minded Community of Athletes
I'm starting my walk/run program today. Starting goal is to walk/run a 5k trail race. Want to join me in-person or virtually? Email me or hit me up on social and let me know. I want to create a community IRL and virtually of athletes like me!
I’m coming back from a pretty big-for-me injury. I injured my lower back in February 2021. The pain first started with swimming. Then it went away after a few weeks. I thought I’d just thrown my back out from too much stress. Then, in March 2021, I was doing a resistance band workout and my lower back went to the point of pain that I’d never felt before.  Photo by Kindel Media on Pexels.com In…

Hello can I request a nagi x reader shopping at the mall imagine pls❤️.
shopping with seishiro nagi.
Tumblr media
✺ featuring : boyfriend!nagi x reader
✺ don’t say i didn’t warn you : you take your boyfriend out to shop and it’s one of the hardest things you ever had to endure. come on, it’s nagi. he’s a big baby. what did you expect, really?
Tumblr media
“don’t wanna!” your six foot three tall boyfriend whines in the passenger seat, profoundly refusing to leave the comfort of the leather cushions now that you have arrived at the mall.
“what are you, three?”
“it’s so comfortable here. try it and see what i mean.”
you can’t help but glare at him because getting him to get out of bed was already taxing enough, and you were kind to offer to drive so he could take it easy on his day-off from practice, and now you have to basically drag him out of the car too?
“sei, i love you so much but you’re really starting to piss me off,” you say sternly and pull his arm to get him to quit staying comfortable on the seat.
“noooo. don’t wanna piss my pretty baby off.”
he groans while keeping his eyes closed, because he is just too comfortable. now that you held his arm, he tried pulling you to his lap to try and cuddle you instead, hoping you’d be open to the idea.
“baby, just wanted to stay at home with you today. to sleep… and cuddle… and sleep.. and cuddle! see! you’re so, so warm!”
whenever he acts like this, you are conflicted between wanting to just baby him and wanting to punch his face for acting like a baby.
most of the time, you give up and just melt into the cuddle he so adamantly offers you. but this time, with thanksgiving and christmas coming up, you really had to start shopping for gifts and getting cozy with your big baby boyfriend could wait a while.
you succeed in pulling him out of the car but as you enter the mall and stroll along the hallways, nagi just clings on to you like a koala on your back. he literally has his arms around your upper body and his nose nuzzled in your neck, effectively complicating the walking process.
“seishiro, people are staring.”
“mhm? that’s ‘cause you’re so beautiful.”
you roll your eyes because his eyes aren’t even focused at all. it’s either he’s closing them or looking at your face. there is no in between.
“stupid. it’s because you’re latching on to me like that. you’re literally a famous athlete, so there should be no surprise if we see ourselves at a headline. do me a favor and please be a normal person for once?”
“what’s a normal person do?”
“not walk behind me like that? just…” you grab him and get him to stand on your side. he complained but he made amends by holding your hand. you hummed satisfactorily, “alright, see. that’s better.”
“it’s not,” he grumpily disagrees, followed by “you’re a pain in the ass.” which earns another death glare from you, in disbelief that he was the one to say that.
when you finally get to actual shopping, you went to the women’s section first. you think of doing him one and let him sit on the bench nearby, but to your surprise, nagi follows along still holding your hand while you scan through the selection of clothes.
“look at this long-sleeved one. it’s gonna look good on ‘ya, i bet. try it on.” he has some suggestions, although he is so close to picking out everything and handing them to you because he thinks all the clothes around you would look good on you.
nagi misses you when you go into the fitting rooms and evidently pouts when the saleslady told him he cannot follow you inside. he waits impatiently with his lips pursed and eyebrows furrowed, but he beams and lightens up when you emerge wearing the outfits he told you to try on.
“beautiful. what a fuckin’ goddess. my super duper ultra mega gorgeous baby,” he grumbles before pulling you into his arms. you notice the saleslady looking away with her face blushing, but you just laugh it off because you’re too used to this.
when you both move on to pick out something for him, he does nothing. he lets you do it for him. look at his eyes and notice that there’s no thought going on in them, except him considering how the clothes you’d choose for him will also look on you.
he hums in his head and nods. yep, she will look good borrowing all these from me. she’s too pretty.
he has behaved well for the past couple of hours, but nagi seishiro has his limits. he just wants you on his bed snuggling with him as soon as possible. after he uses his card to pay for everything, he carries all the paperbags in his right hand while his left hand is on you. he’s excited to go home and relax.
but you say, “okay! time to buy gifts for our nieces and nephews! where shall we look first?”
the man deflates. “what?”
“what?” you blink up at him in confusion, and he found that really cute so he doesn’t have the heart to stop you from shopping more.
take note that he has no idea whether the toys he bought for his nephew are suited for his age nor does the clothes fit him correctly (don’t worry, they all turned out good), but he just did everything so fast to get you all to himself for the rest of the day.

note : i am in love with him.

“If there is one thing that is abundantly clear, it is that Israelis don't give a damn how you and I think. They simply aren't bothered about public opinion or the U.N. or the ICJ. As long as they have the support of those with bombs and power, there is no consideration for justice and humanity. As we close in on 6 months of genocide, their intransigence is clear.
Although it is hard to imagine, we, the people must be twice as intransigent. They are counting on us to tap out, to back down, to admit that we are powerless, to put away our Palestinian flags and simply give up. If justice and humanity is to endure, we must have the stamina of an ultra-endurance athlete.
We must outlast the thoughtless hate of the West. We must ensure that there can be no brushing facts under the carpet. There can be no forgetting. There can be no peace for public figures that have supported genocide. Not today. Not tomorrow. Not ever.

Taylor Swift is sending a powerful message to women on the Eras tour
Analysis by Emily Halnon, CNN
Tumblr media
Taylor Swift performs onstage during the "Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour" at Allegiant Stadium on March 24 in Las Vegas.
(CNN) My first stirrings of discomfort at Taylor Swift's show in Las Vegas hit after the infectious beat faded from fan-favorite "Cruel Summer," the second song in her supersized set.
Swift strutted across the stage in a sequin bodysuit and matching boots. Her cat eye was drawn sharp enough to kill a man, as she says.
She thanked the crowd of thousands of cheering fans for their deafening support and as the roars died down, she paused, and then bellowed out the line that undid me — and sent a powerful message about embracing success to the tens of thousands of women in attendance.
"You're making me feel like I'm the first woman to ever headline Allegiant Stadium."
She flicked her gaze down to her biceps and pumped her arms in victory.
The crowd lost it. My jaw dropped. My gut clenched and braced itself for a blow.
I'd just heard Swift, a woman, bellow out her accomplishment, with no qualifiers, no, "I did a thing" and not a single ounce of humility to soften the punch.
It was just an unapologetic and audacious declaration of her success.
Challenging double standards
Tumblr media
When I walked into Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, I expected to be blown away by Swift and the 44 songs she performs live for the "Eras Tour." But I didn't expect to feel uncomfortable at her declaration of her unbridled ambition.
The timing of her declaration was a little cheeky; it was part of her introduction to the song, "The Man," which calls attention to the sexist double standards that women face, including ones Swift has battled in the music industry.
"What's it like to brag about raking in dollars and getting bitches and models," she sang. "If I was out flashing my dollars, I'd be a bitch, not a baller."
When she shouted out her accomplishment in Las Vegas, alongside a matching victory dance, I'm sure it was meant to conjure masculinity and highlight the double standard surrounding success, since nothing Taylor Alison Swift does is unintentional. She's known for leaving an unending trail of Easter eggs for her fans to find and decipher, which reveal clues about things like album drops and the true meaning of a lyric.
She's a mastermind in everything she does, sings and shouts to a football stadium full of fans.
That's why, even if the timing was part of her performance around "The Man," it was also no accident that Swift decided to belt out her success that night.
And whether we were cringing in our seats, like me, or cheering her on, also like me, her words delivered a powerful message.
I'm insecure about my own ambition
Tumblr media
Emily Halnon runs through Diamond Peak Wilderness on the Pacific Crest Traail.
The discomfort I felt had nothing to do with Swift or her record-setting performance. My inner cringe was fueled by my own insecurities with female ambition and the social conditioning that has taught me to shy away from owning my successes. I was projecting my own unease on Swift.
Intellectually, I root for ambitious women to take up space in the world, but emotionally, I've got some deep-seated resistance to the idea, as evidenced by my gut reaction.
Like Swift, who will perform for over three straight hours on every night of this 52-stop tour, I'm also an endurance athlete. I'm a long-distance trail runner, and while I'm not even close to being the Taylor Swift of ultra running, I have experienced some successes in my athletic endeavors — but I can barely talk about them in front of a single person, never mind 70 thousands of them.
Like, when I raced a 50-miler a couple of summers ago, and friends asked me how I did.
"I had a lot of fun," I'd say. "I felt strong all day."
I usually waited for my partner or someone else to fill-in-the-blank that I'd won the race. Or I'd just leave that detail out. I do that often, whether it's my finisher place, pace or distance.
I don't want to be 'that' woman
I don't want to brag, or seem cocky, competitive, or, heaven forbid, self-promotional. That phrase alone feels dirtier than the floor of a football stadium after a three-hour show.
I've watched women get villainized for ambition and success since I could say the words, "Hillary Clinton." I know the safer path for a woman is to be humble and modest.
When I decided to attempt a speed record on the 460-mile stretch of the Oregon Pacific Crest Trail, one of the hardest parts of the run was telling people about my goal, which was a requirement for this record.
I didn't want to come off as a strong and competitive woman, who believed that I was capable of achieving something big. I certainly didn't want to seem like I was chasing success, an ambitious woman with the audacity to be confident. The better story would be to stumble into an accomplishment, not to overtly hunt it down myself.
In my first draft of this essay, the one I didn't initially share with my editor, I omitted that I went on to set that record — and beat the men's times, as well. (Editor's note: One of her most notable runs was setting the overall Fastest Known Time on the 460-mile Oregon PCT in 7 days, 19 hours, and 23 minutes.)
She had a powerful impact on me
My discomfort in Las Vegas transitioned to awe, followed Swiftly by a "Hell yeah, Taylor."
By the time I was back home in Oregon, I couldn't stop thinking about how powerful it was that Swift was so bold. It didn't stop at that one statement — she delivered a three-hour masterclass in confidence and pride in what she's accomplished. And I liked it. I think most of us at Allegiant Stadium did. Over the course of this tour, millions of women will watch her share her success.
At least one of those women in the audience needed to hear her to celebrate her own success (and probably more than I would've guessed based on my initial reaction).
I watched clips of her performance at AT&T Stadium, home of the Dallas Cowboys, the next weekend. When the beat from "Cruel Summer" faded, she did it again.
"I'm the first artist to play three nights in this stadium," she shouted.
I watched her shimmy, her face full of unapologetic joy as she shook her hips in front of tens of thousands of people, and this time, I didn't cringe. I thought about how I can be a little more like Swift the next time I succeed.
ts1989fanatic in 2023 no successful woman should feel this way, and if just a few of those approximately 70,000 per show walk away feeling empowered by Taylor Swift as this writer did. Then we are at least making some progress.

5 Key Lessons from book "Endure: Mind, Body, and the Curiously Elastic Limits of Human Performance"
Tumblr media
These five lessons are following:
🧠The Central Governor Model
The central governor model proposes that physical exertion is regulated by the brain to avoid bodily harm. This model suggests our perceived exhaustion is the brain limiting exertion to prevent reaching dangerous physical limits.
💪Ultra endurance Athletes Defy Expectations
Ultra endurance athletes compete in extreme endurance events lasting 6+ hours. Their capabilities defy conventional medical wisdom about the limits of human endurance. Studying these athletes provides insight into how the mind regulates physical exertion.
👁️Mental Fortitude and Perceived Effort
An individual's mental fortitude and perception of effort plays a huge role in physical performance. The brain interprets and regulates signals from the body, so factors like motivation and focus impact endurance capabilities.
🔥Heat Acclimatization Expands Limits
Heat acclimatization allows the body to exert more in hot environments through cardiovascular and sweat gland adaptations. This demonstrates the elasticity of the human body's limits when faced with extreme conditions.
👨‍👩‍👧Genetic and Biological Factors
Genetic, biological and physiological factors influence, but do not fully determine limits. The complexity of regulating exertion indicates there are opportunities to expand limits through training the brain and body.

Your Brain Is The Most Powerful Weapon: How to Cultivate Mental Toughness and Overcome Obstacles
David Goggins, a former Navy SEAL and ultra-endurance athlete, has said that "your brain is the most powerful weapon you have." He believes that the human mind is capable of achieving incredible feats if one is willing to push past their physical and mental limits.
Goggins has experienced this firsthand, having overcome numerous obstacles in his life, including childhood abuse, obesity, and a heart defect, to become a successful athlete and motivational speaker. He attributes his success to the power of his mind and the ability to overcome negative self-talk and limiting beliefs.
According to Goggins, the key to unlocking the power of your brain is to challenge yourself regularly and to embrace discomfort. By pushing through difficult situations, you can build mental toughness and develop a mindset that allows you to achieve your goals.
Goggins' philosophy is not just limited to athletes or those seeking physical fitness. He believes that anyone can benefit from developing mental toughness and embracing discomfort. Whether you are pursuing a career, starting a business, or simply seeking personal growth, the power of your mind can help you achieve success.
In summary, David Goggins believes that the human brain is the most powerful weapon we have, and that we can unlock its full potential by pushing past our physical and mental limits, embracing discomfort, and developing mental toughness.

Another PCT Speed Record Breaks
An excerpt from Grayson Haver Currin's story in Outside online about Josh Perry's self-supported PCT speed record.
Tumblr media
An enduring speed record on the Pacific Crest Trail has fallen. On Sunday, August 7, at 8:56 P.M., Josh Perry—a 27-year-old British hiker —reached the Canadian border, finishing the 2,650-mile trail just 55 days, 16 hours, and 54 minutes after he departed the trail’s starting point near the U.S. border with Mexico.
His staggering time cut the 2009 male self-supported record of Scott Williamson by nearly ten days; Perry shaved five days off the overall self-supported record famously set by Heather “Anish” Anderson in 2013, a feat so impressive it survived a decade of near-constant attempts to beat it. (His record has not been officially verified, but an official at Fastest Known Times said Tuesday she expected it to be.) Anderson’s achievement, which established her as one of the world’s most wowing endurance athletes, is the very thing that lured Perry into long-distance hiking.
Perhaps most impressive of all, Perry finished within just four days of the supported record set last year by Timothy Olson, the Adidas-sponsored ultra-running superstar who slept most nights in a roadside RV with hot meals and sports massages. Being self-supported, Perry mailed himself shoes and supplies in advance and hiked into towns to pick them up. He did not get in a car to reach supplies or accept substantial assistance until Tuesday afternoon, when he emerged from the woods of northern Washington with a new record to his name. Besting Olson’s Fastest Known Time (FKT) was Perry’s true motivation.
“It is incredibly bittersweet, heartbreaking, to put so much effort into something for six weeks and come up short,” Perry said Tuesday afternoon from a hiker hostel in Mazama, the idyllic Cascade outpost closest to the finish. “This time doesn’t represent the best of what I can do. It represents the best of what I could do under the circumstances.”
Perry is talking about the reality of record-setting and thru-hiking at large in this era of escalated wildfires. He cruised for the PCT’s first 1,700 miles in California, finishing the state faster than any other recorded hiker—34 days, 3 hours, and 59 minutes. He shuffled or jogged many of those miles, setting a pace so aggressive he often slept six hours a night. (Those attempting FKTs sometimes deal with only two hours of sleep for days at a time.)
But in Oregon, a trail closure that remains in effect since the 2020 Lionshead Fire near Mount Jefferson forced Perry to find an alternate route that approximated the PCT. He followed badly overgrown trails on the Warm Springs Indian Reservation, and the brush was so thick that he spent seven hours bushwhacking for seven miles. He fell on wet rock scrambles, bruised ribs when he collided into a tree, and suffered a heatstroke after finally walking along a road in temperatures well above 100 degrees. Delirious and dehydrated, he began vomiting and defecating on himself. His condition was so bad that he momentarily decided to quit.
Perry’s decision to get on the PCT at all this year represents a remarkable personal commitment to keep going. In 2019, after setting a self-supported FKT on Vermont’s Long Trail, and before doing the same on the Arizona Trail, Perry made a southbound run on the PCT record. After clocking 49 miles per day for about 1,000 miles, he was stung by a wasp, unaware that he was allergic. Three days later, he collapsed on trail and had to be carried into town by three other hikers.
And then, just last year, Perry had a mental breakdown related to money that resulted in a suicide attempt. He survived, and as he considered the options for his future, he soon resolved to try for the record again this year. “Long-distance hiking is what I have done my entire adult life,” said Perry, who was born in Birmingham, moved around a lot as a child, and has spent about half of each year on trail since turning 18. “So when it came down to decide what I was going to do this year, the healthiest option was to go for a hike.”
Tumblr media
Perry had big adventures planned for the end of his PCT hike—running the Colorado Trail, for instance, and hiking in the Olympic and Cascade mountains. But on Tuesday afternoon, he said those likely wouldn’t happen. He was simply delighted to have cleaned his cut, cracked feet completely for the first time in two weeks. He recounted a litany of overuse injuries, including muscles afflicted with tendinitis, and webs of bruises from exhausted falls in Washington state. For several hundred miles, he even carried a sealed role of duct tape to bind his right quadricep together should it tear, as he feared it might. “I cannot imagine putting a pair of climbing shoes on my feet right now,” he said.

Abby McQueeney Penamonte - Registered Dietitian and Nutrition Coach. Helping women to fuel their bodies, improve their relationship with food, fitness, and body image.
Abby in her own words:
“I used to be a competitive ultra-runner. I competed in 100-mile mountain races and was pretty decent at it. In 2013 I competed and won (female division) the Grand Slam of Ultra-Running. This is 4 x 100 mile races in a 10 week span.
But too much endurance + too little calories and carbs= Burnout. Anyone that doesn’t believe burnout or adrenal issues are real is a liar. It’s real and it’s debilitating to your body and mind.
I was forced to stop running and I eventually found weight-lifting. I tried my best at CrossFit but really gravitated towards heavy lifting and fell in love with Powerlifting.
I worked with a Nutrition Coach and spent years reverse dieting to support my body and goals and un-do all the years of damage I did as an endurance athlete. My sole purpose was to lift as much as I possibly could in a weight class sport and I was pretty decent at it. In 2018 I competed in PowerLifting Nationals. At 138 pounds my best squat was 290 pounds, bench 190 pounds, and deadlift 325 pounds.
I ended up hurting my back while lifting in 2019. I eventually decided to walk away from all competitive sports and focus on living a normal life with food and fitness balance.
These days my goals include lifting weights to support health and hormones. I want to be fit and strong enough to keep up with Molly-dog and continue hiking some beautiful miles in the Colorado mountains. I enjoy eating all foods and consume over 2300 calories. I strength train for ~ 1 hour x 4-5 days per week. I walk 2.5-3.5 miles every-day with Miss Molly.
I am happier and confident with my body now than any time before. You don’t need to be extreme or restrict yourself to get results. I follow an all-foods fit approach. As a Registered Dietitian and Nutrition Coach my mission now is to prevent other athletes from making the same mistakes I made.
My purpose in life is to serve others (women) and help them fuel their bodies, improve their relationship with food + fitness, and body image.”

Game-Changing Moments: Iconic NFL Football Cards
Tumblr media
In the realm of sports memorabilia, few items carry as much nostalgia and significance as NFL football cards. These tiny pieces of cardboard capture not just moments in football history, but also the essence of the game itself. From the rookie cards of legendary players to the rare finds that fetch astronomical prices at auctions, NFL football cards serve as windows into the past, preserving iconic moments for fans to cherish for generations to come.
One such iconic moment immortalized in NFL football card history is the rookie card of Joe Montana. Drafted by the San Francisco 49ers in 1979, Montana went on to become one of the greatest quarterbacks in NFL history, leading the 49ers to four Super Bowl victories. His rookie card, featuring a young Montana in his college uniform, symbolizes the beginning of a remarkable career that would forever change the landscape of the NFL.
Another game-changing moment captured on NFL football cards is "The Catch" – a pivotal play in NFL history that occurred during the 1981 NFC Championship Game between the San Francisco 49ers and the Dallas Cowboys. With less than a minute remaining in the game, Joe Montana threw a pass to Dwight Clark in the back of the end zone, resulting in a touchdown that secured the 49ers' victory and propelled them to their first Super Bowl title. The image of Clark's outstretched arms making the catch has become an enduring symbol of triumph and perseverance, immortalized on football cards for fans to revisit again and again.
In addition to individual moments, NFL football cards also capture the dynasties that have shaped the league over the years. The 1986 Topps Lawrence Taylor card, for example, pays homage to one of the most dominant defensive players in NFL history. As a cornerstone of the New York Giants defense, Taylor revolutionized the linebacker position and led his team to two Super Bowl victories. His card serves as a reminder of the Giants' defensive prowess during an era defined by their relentless pursuit of excellence.
Similarly, the 2000 Fleer Ultra Tom Brady rookie card marks the beginning of another NFL dynasty. Drafted by the New England Patriots in the sixth round of the 2000 NFL Draft, Brady would go on to become arguably the greatest quarterback of all time, winning seven Super Bowl titles and redefining the standards of success in the NFL. His rookie card, featuring a fresh-faced Brady in his college uniform, symbolizes the start of a legendary career that would span two decades and leave an indelible mark on the sport.
Beyond individual players and teams, NFL football cards also capture moments of cultural significance that transcend the game itself. The 1989 Score Barry Sanders rookie card, for instance, commemorates the emergence of one of the most electrifying running backs in NFL history. Sanders' unique blend of speed, agility, and elusiveness captivated fans and inspired a new generation of athletes. His rookie card serves as a testament to his impact on the game and his lasting legacy as one of the greatest running backs of all time.
In conclusion, NFL football cards are more than just collectibles – they are portals to the past, preserving iconic moments and immortalizing the legends of the game. From the rookie cards of Hall of Fame players to the rare finds that evoke memories of unforgettable plays, NFL football cards encapsulate the essence of football and serve as cherished mementos for fans around the world. As the NFL continues to evolve and new stars emerge, these cards will remain timeless reminders of the game's rich history and enduring legacy.

Water Intoxication: Can You Drink Too Much Water?
Tumblr media
Have you ever wondered what happens if you drink too much water? Our bodies certainly need water for survival, but too much water consumption can lead to serious health consequences. It's always possible to overdue too much of a good thing. In this article, we will discuss what water intoxication is, the causes of water intoxication, signs and symptoms, and recommendations for daily water intake to prevent water intoxication from occurring. 📌 Key Takeaways - Water intoxication is when you drink more water than your body and kidneys can get rid of. - Water toxicity can have severe consequences and potentially lead to death if not treated immediately. - Events of water intoxication tend to be rare, most people struggle with dehydration. 🤔 What is Water Intoxication? When you drink more water than your kidneys can get rid of this is called fatal water intoxication or water toxicity or water poisoning. One of the roles of the kidneys is to filter our blood and produce urine. Our kidneys can only handle so much. In fact they are able to remove about 0.8 to 1.0 L per hour. If you're drinking too much water the kidneys will have difficulty keeping up. This can lead to too much water in the blood which dilutes electrolyte concentrations resulting in electrolyte imbalances. One of the main electrolytes that would decrease below normal levels is sodium. When the blood sodium concentration drops below 135 mmol/L, this is called hyponatremia. This is detrimental because sodium helps the body maintain fluid balance. When sodium levels drop because of the excessive water consumption, fluid will move outside to inside the body's cells resulting in swelling. Imagine a water balloon - it only has so much water capacity before it bursts. The same goes for our human cells. When this occurs to our brain cells it is very dangerous and life threatening. 🔎 What Happens if You Drink Too Much Water? When the brain cells begin to swell from excessive intake of water this increases pressure on the skull. This extra fluid in the brain is known as edema which leads to central nervous system dysfunction. If you're wondering what happens when you drink too much water look out for the following signs and symptoms. In these severe cases, water intoxication can even cause seizures, brain damage, comas , and even death. - nausea - vomiting - headaches - difficulty breathing - confusion - muscle weakness or cramping - increased blood pressure - double vision - drowsiness 🩺 What Causes Water Intoxication? There are certain activities or health conditions that may put you at a higher risk for water intoxication. For the most part, it includes people that participate in high intensity endurance sports or those with certain mental health conditions. Endurance Sports There are instances where improper hydration can lead to water intoxication in endurance athletes . This can occur when an athlete such as an ultra-runner may have higher water intake in addition to electrolyte loss through sweat. These two combinations put endurance athletes at a greater risk. In one study, 13% of 488 participants in the Boston Marathon had hyponatremia symptoms, 0.6% had critically low sodium (levels less than 120 mmol/L). You are at a higher risk for hyponatremia during high intensity endurance events and in hotter climates. Military Training Between 2007 and 2022 the Military Health System and Defense Health Agency reported 1690 cases of exercise related hyponatremia among active service personnel. Symptoms of hyponatremia can present itself as dehydration so accurate diagnosis and treatment is vital. In a 2015 report, it was determined that too much water consumption during 40 kilometer marching exercise in hot weather resulted in a fatal outcome. The soldier at the time had consumed almost 13L of water during this exercise when his peers had consumed around 10 L. Mental Health Conditions Compulsive water drinking also known as psychogenic polydipsia is being reported more frequently in psychiatric populations. The effects of excessive water drinking can lead to the side effects mentioned earlier in this article including hyponatremia, nausea, vomiting and in severe cases death. While it is mostly commonly seen in chronic schizophrenia, other mental health disorders such as affective disorders, mental retardation, psychosis, personality disorders, and anxiety are also associated with psychogenic polydipsia. However, no specific cause for compulsive water drinking has been identified. Drug Interactions There have been several cases where use of MDMA (also known as ecstasy) has resulted in hyponatremia. This is partly because after ingestion of ecstasy there is a misconception about water intake resulting in over consumption of water intake and water intoxication. 📖 How Do You Know If You're Drinking Too Much Water? Is is important to note that water toxicity is rare. Most people have difficulty not drinking enough water, however if you feel like you're drinking too much water below are a few things to look out for. Signs of Over Hydration Urine color is a very practical way to determine how well hydrated you are, whether you're dehydrated or drinking too much water. The goal is for your urine to be a pale yellow. However, if your urine is consistently clear, this may be a sign that you are drinking too much water. Pay attention to how often you are going to the bathroom! If you're going to the bathroom more than usual then this could be a sign you're drinking too much fluid. Keep in mind you should urinate six to eight times per day. Other signs and symptoms Consuming too much water can have the same symptoms as dehydration. However, if you have been drinking an excess amount of water and experience the following symptoms seek medical treatment immediately. Other signs and symptoms you're consuming excess water include throbbing headaches all day, discoloration of your hands, face and lips, weakness, muscle cramping and fatigue. 📥 How Much Water Should You Drink? So, how much water should you drink? Well, there are no "official" guidelines on how much water a person should drink each day according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). However, most people are able to stay properly hydrated if they consume 8 to 12 cups of water per day. It is important to keep in mind that your water requirements will differ depending on your body weight, physical activity, climate, age, and more. Make sure you listen to your body! One way to do this is by paying attention to the color of your urine and thirst. If for example your urine is too dark and you are thirsty, this is your body's way of telling you that you're dehydrated. 📑 The Bottom Line The bottom line is that water poisoning is rare. Most people have a more challenging time drinking enough water instead of too much. However, while it is rare some populations are more at risk including endurance athletes, active military members, psychiatric disorders and those that use MDMA. It is important to be able to identify the warning signs of water intoxication in order to have proper treatment. If you have had too much water and experience any of the symptoms discussed in this article, seek medical attention immediately. Continue reading: - How to Know If Your Drinking Too Much Water - Does Water Have Calories? - Is Cold Water Bad for Your Health? ❔ Frequently Asked Questions How Do You Know If You Have Water Intoxication? Water intoxication signs and symptoms can be similar to dehydration. However, some of the warning signs include confusion, nausea, vomiting, low sodium levels, weakness, increased blood pressure and more. You may be at risk from water intoxication if you are an endurance athlete or active military member due to the intensity of activity level required. If you have had an excessive amount of water seek medical attention immediately for proper treatment and avoid serious health complications. How Much Water is Over hydration? There is not a certain number of water per day that would cause over hydration or life threatening water poisoning since the number would likely vary from person to person. However, some resources suggest that you should not drink more than 1 L of water per hour for several hours at a time. Our kidneys are capable of eliminating up to 1L of fluid per hour via urine. As you can imagine, you would have to be drinking a very large amount of water for water toxicity to occur. Is 4 Liters of Water a Day Too Much? If you were to drink 4 L of water in a short period of time, this could result in water toxicity. However, depending on your age, weight, activity level and climate 4 L of water per day would not be too much. In fact, the institute of medicine recommends about 3.7 L of water per day for Men. Baker-Miller Pink & Kendall Jenner.
Kendall Jenner, one of the famous Kardashian sisters, has one of her walls in her expensive Los Angeles home painted the exact shade of Baker-Miller Pink, she explained:
Baker-Miller Pink is the only colour scientifically proven to calm you AND your appetite. I was like “I NEED this colour in my house!”. I then found someone to paint the room and now I’m loving it!
Vollebak recently created a hoodie in Baker-Miller Pink designed for warm-ups and warm-downs, which when zipped up purports to reduce the wearer’s heart rate and slow their breathing by reducing oxygen intake. Vollebak is a British clothing brand specialising in men’s sportswear and adventure clothing. Vollebak designed a hoodie specifically to help the wearer withdraw into a ‘cocoon of calm’. The Baker-Miller Pink Hoodie is intended to help athletes prepare for endurance events,
“built for high-pressure waiting periods in adventure sports and expeditions”.
The pale pink hoodie zips all the way to the top of the hood in the specific shade P618. The intention is to induce a mind hack and reduce the wearers heart rate. Inside, there is a mesh visor that is designed to slow down breathing by reducing oxygen intake. The person wearing the hoodie is able to see out, but no one can see in. In addition, the hoodie also comes with a soundtrack of pink noise that’s claimed to put the listener into a meditative state whilst regulating brainwaves.
