HMD took a gamble that didn’t quite pay off with the 9 PureView, but now it’s looking to return to form with a formula it knows well - meet the new Nokia 8.3 5G. Positioned in the “flagship killer” segment its claims to fame are a great big display, a quad camera with ZEISS certification and unrivaled 5G support. HMD says the Nokia 8.3 5G is all about futureproofing - it supports more 5G bands than even the priciest flagship out there, which will make it compatible with all of the existing and upcoming 5G networks around the globe. The phone is built around a 6.81” Puredisplay of FullHD+ resolution. It’s an HDR panel with Adaptive display support that adjusts contrast depending on how much light is around you. Inside the punch hole in its upper left corner sits a 24MP front-facing camera with ZEISS optics. The ZEISS quad camera on the back has a 64MP main sensor and a 12MP ultrawide module designed with a focus on video recording and low-light performance. In binned mode its pixels reach 2.8µm in size and it also gets ZEISS cinematic effect that gives you more control over the video capture. OZO audio and action cam mode complete the camcorder arsenal. The other two modules are less exciting - a depth sensor and a dedicated macro camera. Inside sits a Snapdragon 765G chipset with 6GB or 8GB of RAM and an integrated 5G modem. It runs stock Android 10 and is part of the Android One program so you’re guaranteed 2 years of upgrades and 3 years of monthly security updates. Storage is either 64GB or 128GB and either way you get a microSD slot for expanding it further. The phone is powered by a 4,500mAh battery that can be charged at up to 18W speeds. It seems like Meizu is pretty generous with information surrounding the upcoming Meizu 17-series lately as the company shares two more teasers. One claims that the Pro version would have a 129-degree ultra-wide camera and the other one is all about the great-sounding stereo loudspeakers. If the translation and the teaser itself is accurate, this could mean that the Meizu 17 Pro would sport one of the widest ultra-wide cameras on the market, if not the widest. Additionally, the lens will be paired with a 32MP sensor and we assume it does 4-to-1 pixel-binning. The second and most recent teaser says that the Meizu 17 - probably the 17 Pro as well - will boast third-generation "dual ultra-linear stereo speakers". Those of you who are familiar with audio tech, you'd probably know that this means maximum output with minimal distortion. In most cases, that is. DxOMark has finally come around to the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra and posted a full review. The delay is likely a good thing, as Samsung issued a number of firmware updates to improve the performance of its flagship's camera since releasing it in March. The Galaxy S20 Ultra scored a very high 132 for its photos but was let down by its 102 video score for a total camera result of 122, which puts it in joint sixth place along the Honor V30 Pro. DxO praised the Galaxy S20 Ultra's lively colors, wide dynamic range and nearly the best noise control in the industry. The ultrawide camera was deemed class-leading. Where the Galaxy S20 Ultra faltered is autofocus performance in low light (the 108MP sensor lacks the dual pixel AF of the Galaxy S20's 12MP main camera), which was deemed slower than the competition, if still accurate. The dynamic range, while wide, wasn't as good as that of the Huawei P40 Pro and the sharpness was slightly behind that of the Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro (which outputs higher-res 25MP images).
