What are Wren's parents like?
YAYY WREN’S PARENTS !!! they are super interesting To Me and very very important to wren’s new lore™️
here’s them in their slightly younger years,, i still gotta figure out their designs and outfits, but once i do i’ll make a little intro sheet for all 3 solís family members
Tumblr media
i had to put on my writer hat for these descriptions SO PLS ENJOY AND TELL ME WHAT U THINK 😭
alejandro is a man of rugged charm and steely determination. even though he was born amongst some of the best fighters in the world, his innate skill and bravery quickly set him apart in the world of monster hunting. with each serpent and mummy bested and each challenge overcome, alejandro climbed the ranks, becoming a legend in his own right.
his travels took him across lands far and wide, where he became both a mentor and a hero to younger future fighters.
marisol, labeled as the “mother of monsters” by both those who knew her and knew of her, possessed a profound connection to the natural and magic worlds that transcended academic interest. her bond with nature and its most misunderstood inhabitants was almost spiritual, allowing her to communicate with and understand monsters on a level that few could fathom. her approach was one of balance and empathy, advocating for coexistence rather than conquest.
monsters were naturally drawn to her not out of fear or subservience, but because of an innate sense of safety and understanding that she radiated. her empathetic and soft spoken nature allowed her to approach them without threat, and her calm demeanor communicated a sense of peace and acceptance.
creatures responded to marisol’s nurturing spirit as if she were one of their own. they followed her, played with her, and showed affection in their unique ways. in return, marisol offered guidance and care, becoming a figure of maternal significance in their lives.
anyway;:,, idk what isaac and alesia’s backstories will be like, but if i can fit it in, i hc that alejandro was a mentor figure to both of them. probably not a full time mentor because he was always traveling, working, taking on gigs, lowkey being a celebrity, etc. but he was there to teach them important lessons that they carry on with them in the present.
even marisol has an interaction with a very young isaac where she hears the sound of him crying deep in the forest and guides him back to safety. i’m not a fic writer but maybe i should be just to write that 😭
IF Y’ALL GOT QUESTIONS ABT THEM THEN PLEASE DO ASK I LUV THEM ALREADY AND I HAVE SO MUCH MORE INFO TO SHARE

okay so just watched the new ep, here’s my 911 s7 ep 1 thoughts:
nearly broke down watching Shannon read the letter to Chris. “I love you, even from a distance.” I’m unwell.
the bucktalia breakup explanation was funny, but what was funnier and gayer was Eddie’s reaction to it sjdjdj
there’s absolutely no chemistry between Marisol and Eddie.
the whole Bathena marital struggles™️ arc doesn’t convince me too much tbh (although I understand Athena’s thought process & concerns).
Chris putting the Shannon frame back up and Eddie’s heart visibly repairing in front of us will forever haunt me btw
“never seen a man turn off a woman with such skills.” “it’s a gift.” fuck off u homosexual
during that same scene, Buck staring longingly and lovingly at Eddie will also forever haunt me
Buck saying the sexual tension line and Eddie almost passing out is very in character
I genuinely felt bad for Bobby during the whole episode
Madney dating and then not dating makes me fuzzy inside, they’re so obviously in love
shirtless Eddie and drooling Buck <3
Eddie eavesdropping on Buck & Chris and scrunching his face in pain made me stop the ep, sit down on the floor and scream

was genuinely concerned about the eddie and marisol stills at first, but honestly, having a great time with the telenovela ass plot of eddie dropping his son off with his husband to go cheat on his girlfriend with his dead wife's doppelganger like that's just objectively hilarious ???? eddie is so fucking unserious in relationships and also so mentally unwell like every time he dates anyone he just goes balls to the wall insane about it for no damn reason like he is looking for any excuse to jump ship while also trying to get married too soon????

I'm so unwell
Someone said Eddie/Marisol arc was probably supposed to be Buck/Natalia arc
And it was supposed to be Eddie's queer awakening with Tommy
But Natalia's actress is on Broadway
Now we're stuck with this homo-, and transphobe
I'm crying here
This hurts in a weird way
Cause of course I'm over the moon with Buck's storyline
But now we're stuck with this fucking queerphobe while it possibly was meant to be Eddie's queer awakening arc
This is all too much

From the ask meme you posted, would love to know
3. your fav dialogue
and
17. inspirations you had during the creating process
I'm trying to get back into reading (an embarrassing thing to type) and would especially love to know if you had recommendations of horror literature similar to unwell!
FIRST OFF: there is nothing embarrassing about getting back into reading. Activities, even ones we love, come and go through our lives. That's a value-neutral thing~
Gonna give you a few things that inspired Unwell- many of them books you should check out!
Media that inspired/informed/shaped/Reminds us of Unwell
Books/Comics: House of Leaves Wisconsin Death Trip The Gone Away World Sandman Locke and Key Digger
Music: The Mountain Goats (Also, John's books are definitely playing in some similar spaces to Unwell) The New Pornographers Rilo Kiley Defiance, OH Gillian Welch Leonard Cohen Warren Zevon
TV: Gravity Falls Twin Peaks The Haunting of Hill House (Flannagan) Midnight Mass
(also, if others want to send us asks- post link here)
I'm going to hide the answer to #3 below a cut, to avoid spoilers (this is from the end of Season 1)
These are two bits of S1/Ep11 by Jess Buha- I think they really emphasize her incredible range, and also set a really great bar for how weird we could make the show. It also illustrates a way I LOVE to have writers work with me as a sound designer (though I didn't design this episode)- giving me what the audience should FEEL, and evoking something big- rather than telling me exactly what sounds I should use.
=====
LILY: Thanks (to WES) You might be overheated. The sun's setting--it'll get cooler. Here, drink this.
WES: Okay.
WES DRINKS. HE SPITS IT OUT WITH A SOUND LIKE A HISSING CAT AND A TOASTER IN THE BATHTUB.
LILY: Wes, it's okay.
WES KEEPS MAKING THE HORRIBLE NOISE. IT BUILDS IN INTENSITY, SOUNDING LIKE A COMBINATION OF FEEDBACK AND A RABBIT SCREAMING. SOMETHING VIOLENT AND VAGUELY OTHER-WORLDLY.
What that alcohol?
MARISOL: No, just water.
THE SOUNDS OF THE FAIR FALTER. THE WARBLERS SKIP NOTES. FAIRGOERS STOP LAUGHING, AND BEGIN TO MUTTER. SOUR SOUND AS THE BANJEAURINE IS KICKED TO THE SIDE. DIRT RUSTLES AS WES STARTS TO SEIZURE.
RUDY: I don't know. I've never / heard anything--[about it.]
====
And then at the end of the episode, we have this beautiful moment:
====
ABBIE: What did she smell like, when you were a little kid?
SILENCE. LIVING ROOM SOUNDS. HOUSE SOUNDS.
LILY: Like cigarettes.
Like smoke. Like a campfire. Like the ocean. Big and salty--she sweated a lot--I don't know--she was always moving. Always planting a thing or pulling up a thing or painting a thing or hauling a thing. She used to take me on hikes through the forest at night, and she'd turn the flashlight off, and we'd stand there in the darkness, and she'd hold my hand, and we'd listen to the-- you know--the whatevers. The crickets. The owls. Night sounds. It was just us, then. Unlike every other millisecond of the day. I felt jealous cause I guess I wanted her only project to be me, but she was like the ocean, and she had all this other stuff going on. I was always so small in her world--like this small, tiny piece. I just didn't ever want to be forgotten.
ABBIE: I won't forget you.
RUDY: You have a certain je ne sais quoi that sticks in the mind.
And I can't forget good people. Celery liquor?
LILY: Thanks. Lemme grab a glass.
RUDY: Just drink it from the bottle.
LILY: Okay.
LILY TAKES A SWIG.
Whew! Spicy.
ABBIE: Celery-cool.
LILY: Hey, did you win that thing?
ABBIE: Yeah.
LILY: Awesome! Awesome.
END.

no but encountering your dead wife's doppelganger is so beyond fucked up like ???? idek what i think eddie should have done instead bc how do you deal w that. historically repressing things has not worked out for eddie and anyone you try to explain it to w/o proof would think you are losing it. getting proof would probably require him interacting w kim regardless and it would probably end similarly bc eddie is unwell when it comes to shannon. how do you even approach a situation like that, it's like the universe laying a gauntlet down 😭😭😭
i have seen some ppl theorize that eddie is exaggerating how much she resembles shannon in his mind due to unresolved trauma, and i feel like they could go that route. @bichimney said in the tags of a post that maybe they'll start to make her look less & less like shannon as he starts to notice she is Not Shannon, and i think that would make a lot of sense.
alternatively, i could see a world where she really is shannon's doppelganger, and someone (the diaz parents? i hope not chris because i think it would be horrible and sad) recognizes this and comments on it and it blows up for eddie (it will definitely blow up for him either way to be clear). i know buck is gonna meet her so it could be him too (although if it were me and i'd only met her a couple times 5 years ago and she had completely different hair i would not recognize her but maybe buck will). and then my brain goes...why the FUCK are buck and eddie's storylines so connected this season...why is buck involved in the narrative around eddie cheating on his gf with his dead wife's doppelganger.....like why did we NEED a scene of him lying to buck specifically lol
BUT in terms of what eddie should do...i wish he would have broken up w marisol in 7x06 fkdfkslfksdl but it's too late for that so HE NEEDS TO CALL FRANK. AT THIS POINT LOL

perhaps eddie and buck do in fact fuck in the bushes before the wedding 😌
Amanda I am UNWELL thinking about how dirty, disheveled, and sweaty they were in those pictures. Truly unwell. I may have to go to the doctor to get myself checked out because I can't stop giggling.
After seeing the wine on Oliver's pants I've decided they DEFINITELY fuck in the bushes.
But then Buck's date (someone he met like two weeks before the wedding and brought because he really didn't want to go alone and have to see everyone else so in love, only for Eddie to come alone because he and Marisol broke up) sees them coming out of the bushes looking all rumpled and throws it on him.
i'm going to think it so hard that the writers can hear it and decide to add it to the script.

I hope I never have to see eddie call buck exhausting again though because that shit hurt lol but I would love a fight that makes them rethink things. Ryan said eddie "finds out who marisol is" so in my wildest dreams, maybe she has a problem with buck and he makes a choice and realizes he has already "nested" with the right person?
okay maybe not a literally grocery fight 2.0 but i think it would really help them to yell at each other and just say what they're thinking and feeling withour dancing around the topic. i feel a fight would be really amazing angst and also i just think oliver and ryan would killlll that performance. and i wanna see that jwjsjsjs
ALSO I HAVENT BEEN ABLE TO STOP THINKING ABOUT THE NESTER COMMENT. WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT. IM UNWELL

Unwell 5.11
this episode made me cry. don't expect them to be fully coherent, but here are some thoughts.
Blooms loves the town, loves the people, and just wants them to stay forever. it misses people when they leave. I'm guessing it doesn't quite understand death that well, it only sees it as people leaving. but it keeps the echos and memories of people, and it helps the townsfolk.
but Lily came back too. she came back for Dot and not for the town, but she still loves the town.
Lily was so brave and kind throughout this episode.
during the time-warp through the whole history of the town, I kept thinking of the golden groove sent into space, the ones Marisol talked about way back in season 1. babies crying and laughter and music and language. that's the town, that's Blooms.
Silas. Silas Silas Silas. both part of the town and yet not of the town. all the cast-off parts. the representation of all the dark bloody history and pain and murder of Natives. and Reverend Silas the Woodcutter was consumed by the woods.
he was so concerned over Lily. and he actually called her Lily a couple of times instead of Lillian.
as soon as the other ghosts started appearing I knew Rudy would appear, but I still wasn't prepared for it and I cried. I've missed him. and I've missed Norah.
I feel like this whole podcast is about how we handle pain and grief and loss.
I love how Lily echoes part of Chester's speech from last episode - how things change, but not the love.
I feel like the show's also been about the stories we tell, and the history we tell. and now Lily gets to tell the story, in a way that lets Blooms rest.
and when she was saying farewell to all the ghosts I KNEW she would get to Wes, and I was tearing up in anticipation, and then I was crying again.
god. what an episode.
