okay I have to word vomit about this somewhere, lucky y’all (none of this is in music terms, just vibes)
This new band camino album is so freaking good. I still don’t know what they put in it but it’s spectacular. And I’m mad at them for purposely making every song under 3 minutes.
My top 5:
“I’ve been a little careless with my actions, I’ve been a little passive with my passions”. Like that’s such a good line, im trying to work it into a url. The pre-chorus GROOVES. And the shadowy bridge I love that.
This has been my favorite song since it dropped, I love a groove. I was looping it 8 times in a row. I still loop it at least 3 times. It’s so good. That thing in the second verse on “they get fantasize and analyze your every move” that’s a drug for me. Also the chorus, we love a non-jealous lover.
the way “been going to therapy to get clarity and apparently” is sang it’s so good. Also the drums are great.
This song is how I knew the album was going to be great, the drums in the chorus makes me bang on whatever’s closest
GROOVES. the way the music drops out at the beginning of the first chorus and then the instruments come in, godtier.
They 100% landed on something See Throughesque and it SMACKS.
The other 5 are also v good and I can listen to the whole album without skipping.

vainko & basti bounce, brodha v | 2022-2023 — i'm going to cheat on the song total with at least two of these entries so let me start with this one, sfjsfdnkjsdnj. got into him bc he showed up on the Spotify radio recommendations for songs like the Gully Boy OST but tbh he unironically slaps and as a bonus BB is the sequel to Vainko both lyrically and visually. personally Vainko slaps a bit harder bc the pre-chorus makes contact with a certain part of my brain that very few songs have before and after it, could just be the way i operate tho
kana yaari, coke studio | 2022 — k i may have cried to The Quick Style's official choreo MV for this (not the wedding choreo. that sh*t was the sh*t) but. the beat drop after the first verse. Eva B coming in in the second with that hijab and spitting bars like no one's f*cking business. ma'am

(head in hands head in hands head in my f*cking hands this is Amor Fati's long lost twin and it hurts just as much)
besharam rang & jhoome jo pathaan | 2023 — the second cheat but i have no remorse over this bc it's SRK-Deepika!!! Shilpa and Arijit what better voices could you choose for such absolute bangers, honestly. BR gives off Ghungroo vibes which might have been the intent but the lyrics themselves are very 90s Bollywood? idk idk i think i've said this before but my Spotify mutuals probably think there's something wrong with me when they see i've had this playing for six hours with no status change and they have no context as to why
way it is, way it could be, the weather station | 2015 — this song and Chammak Challo fought each other for this spot as the oldest song here but i needed at least one English song in this list and a sacrifice had to be made. i apologize profusely to the many impromptu dance sessions i had with the latter, pls know you were not spurned; it's hard to put a finger on exactly what it about this that has had me in a chokehold. is it the guitar? the sparseness of arrangement? 'the way it is and the way it could be, both are / we got back in the car'? highly recommend bc whatever it is there's something in the song and i go feral for it

1. I CAN’T FIX YOU / THE LIVING TOMBSTONE
OKAY THIS SONG GETS ME. You’ve been mourning your loss here and that’s grinding my gears, how can a human lose their self control? There’s nothing left to make you whole GETS ME. I LOVE Circus Baby & her story and everything about her so this song drives me wild already (unless i’ve interpreted it wrong and it’s not about baby in which case. oops!). the fact she’s speaking to william here and how frustrating it is for her that he’s MOURNING while his hands are covered in blood (her blood). this is such a bitter sad song and it makes me crazy so have some more lyrics that make me insane!
You oversaturate your world with nothing but machines. You might make everyone happy, but you’re dead inside, just like me. And now we’re here at a standstill — I wonder if you feel the kind of pain that puts your insides out (that’s something I know all about).
2. AFTON FAMILY / APANGRYPIGGY
i mean you KNOW my obsession with the afton family. you KNOW how bad it is. switching between each of the afton children and william (WHERE IS MRS AFTON. WHERE IS SHE. WHERE’S THE LOML) is such an interesting take on the song and you already know that the family is my main point of interest in the lore !!! also the chorus just SLAPS: all stay strong, we live eternally! all is well in the afton family vs lives, they fell to pure insanity! all is hell in the afton family is good ok. like i am a simple person with simple pleasures. a good bit of lyrical contrast is one of them ^_^
3. DRAWN TO THE BITTER / DHEUSTA
HENRY AND WILLIAM SONG. HENRY AND WILLIAM SONG. WHAT’S NOT TO BE OBSESSED WITH. if those other two songs weren’t so good then this would be ranked higher tbh!!! i am a SUCKER for this song and also for the pre to post diner era. to me it sounds like it’s from william’s perspective too as he reminisces on the past (a loss of precious life, a part of me died inside that night) and that makes it so much better for me…. the tragedy unfolding through the verses while the chorus drills home how inevitable the events were always going to be … tragedy is drawn to the bitter and william is the most bitter one out there :’)
4. FIVE MORE NIGHTS / JT MUSIC
fun fact!!! i heard this song before five long nights and i love them both. this one slips by into being in my favorite five list though. just a good old fashioned low lore song and it makes me so damn hyped and reminds me of the core of the franchise. the edits i see to this part of the song — did you listen to the vision you saw? as the clock keeps ticking we’ll be giving you more — do you remember the original four? take a look at us now, ‘cause our condition is poor! we were left to decay in this dark troubled place��� — fucking rock ok. like all of them. this song is a bop idc
5. BELOW THE SURFACE / GRIFFINILLA
first fnaf song i ever heard so it holds a special place in my heart :3 also because sl is one of my fav games (that im gonna be playing on stream later most likely YAYY)!! his voice means to deceive you, my voice just wants to lead you. i used to squint a little at the line built without purpose because well . they WERE built with purpose. but in my understanding of the lore, these ones were the first to be built for purposes OTHER than fun/family etc, so they lack an innocent purpose so i get that part of the song now agdkhd. also who can resist exotic butters as the outro huh. c good song, v catchy, it’s gonna be stuck in my head all day now !
1. NO SURPRISES / RADIOHEAD
another afton family insp. song, by which i mean i loop this while writing anything remotely sad about the franchise and cry endlessly over them!!! I’m probably gonna do an ACTUAL line by line analysis of this and how it relates to my will & mike writing, but have a few for now: a job that slowly kills you (both mike & will), you look so tired and unhappy (the job destroying who william once was), i’ll take a quiet life, a handshake of carbon monoxide, no alarms and no surprises (see last bits of analysis), this is my final fate (both of them, father and son, facing painful ends at the hands of animatronics). and then of course we have such a pretty house and such a pretty garden no alarms and no surprises (get me out of here) because so MUCH of the toxicity in the household was so insidious. a carbon monoxide death. william’s effect on the rest of the family poisoned them slowly and michael was resigned to it for so much of his life (no alarms and no surprises) but inwardly wanted out so BAD (get me out of here). this song fucking destroys me!
2. THE MIND ELECTRIC / CHONNY JASH
a cassidy song in my mind. especially this version! really does well at highlighting the bitterness and hatred she feels for william. “this creature hardly resembles a man, my logic is the absolute, his pity parties simply harm these chances at an apt repute esteemed regard in place of mockery” like YES!!! read him!!! have more that’s just SO fitting for the dynamic of these two:

I, K, M & V for the fic ask game?
I: Do you have a guilty pleasure in fic (reading or writing)?
I love reading modern aus, particularly for Star Wars (Rogue One and The Mandalorian included). I don't think I have any guilty pleasures when it comes to writing fic?? I unashamedly adore every trope I've ever put to paper.
K: What’s the angstiest idea you’ve ever come up with?
Many of my angstiest fic ideas are for Top Gun: the AU Where Mav and Ice Broke Up For Angsty Reasons and Then Meet Again At TOPGUN And Think Their Lingering Feelings Are Unrequited (Angsty Exes AU for short), the TG:M AU where Bradley's WSO dies, the magical realism AU where Goose comes back to life and has to deal with the fact that the world moved on without him... I'm currently writing a pretty angsty Roy-centric fic that deals with his relationship with Judaism (enabled by @lichfucker), but otherwise most of my TL ideas are pretty fluffy (and if they have angst, it's always Angst With A Happy Ending).
M: Got any premises on the back burner that you’d care to share?
Very many! Here are five I'm currently working on:
the Sam/Dani time loop / Groundhog Day AU, in which Sam keeps reliving the Man City match that got Richmond relegated and has no idea why.
the Sam/Dani FWBs AU, in which Dani and Sam had a one night stand pre-canon and when Dani finally shows up in canon, he plays for Man City, not Richmond.
the Chaos Fic co-conceptualized with you (which functions as a sequel to / spinoff of my Natedemption fic For A Minute There I Lost Myself), in which Nate unwillingly becomes a football Twitter thirst trap, Colin discovers he has a thing for silver foxes in black suits, and the West Ham and Richmond players Live for the chaos of the Colin/Nate drama while dealing with romantic drama of their own.
the TL OUAT AU, which is in the Very Early Stages right now but currently stars Ted as Emma, Nate as Regina (yes, Nate), Rupert as Mr. Gold, Rebecca as Mary Margaret, and Henry as Henry. (Alternatively, Nora Collins and Henry Lasso will fulfil a dual Henry Mills counterpart, but that's all up in the air right now.) Ships are also up in the air right now, but Ted/Rebecca, Roy/Keeley, and Sam/Dani are pretty much set in stone just because of who I am as a person.
Five times Sam and Dani had sex somewhere they weren't supposed to (and one time they made it to a bed), which is exactly what it says on the tin. Places Dani and Sam have sex where they are not supposed to include (but are not limited to) the boot room, the team bus, and the Higgins' upstairs bathroom.
V: If you could write the sequel (or prequel) to any fic out there not written by yourself, which would you choose?
I honestly don't know if I'd trust myself to write a sequel or prequel to a fic written by an author I adore. I wouldn't mind writing side-bits and outtakes (particularly for your Bantr-verse), but a straight up sequel or prequel? Not sure if I'd do the concepts and characters justice. I'd rather bribe the author with love and comments and validation.

The mood of the song tone seems calming even though the actual song is quite sad.
It symbolizes regret after a breakup that happened when the couple were too young to work together and fix any issues in the relationship.
We also have a bit of rain; (Didn’t another group sing that love and memories fall with the rain?) 
It brings to mind a relationship that started off wonderfully but then grew toxic with all of the arguments
We see people going about their day (People are moving along with their lives but he still lives in the memories of a happier time)
His style was like a smart casual since he paired the yellow tee with a jacket and converse shoes; we didn’t get to see a lot of his dance moves but it felt okay since the song told us a story

favourite fic I wrote: i don’t know how to answer this tbh, shamelessly stealing @sothischickshe’s answer of i’m partial to all of them for different reasons! i guess i’m currently particularly proud of the don’t close your eyes ‘verse (currently consisting of both hands and listening, i’m not saying there’s going to be a third part but i’m not not saying that). writing in so many (hopefully) distinct voices with unique and (again, hopefully) fully fleshed out feeling points of view has been a neat challenge and i’m p proud of how it’s come out. i am also absurdly into the way the timelines of both (and eventually maybe all three) pieces weave together even though i have to use a cheat sheet to keep it straight
fic I want to rewrite/expand on: i don’t hate myself enough to open the door to rewriting anything because if i started realistically i would never stop. i went back and started rereading the beginning of song to make sure i was looping everything into the ending right and had a solid three days of oh fuck i would redo, like, all of this. not necessarily because i think it’s bad or anything (though i am on a constant and never satisfied quest for perfection but that’s a personal problem we don’t need to get into) but because the way i thought about the fic evolved significantly over the course of me writing it and there’s def some thematic stuff i’d go back and build up more.
share a bit of a wip or story idea you’re working on: mmm well lets see, i’m most of the way through the draft of the last chapter of listening, so that’s neat. have had to spend an obnoxious amount of time in dean’s head which makes me feel dirty but whatever. i’ve also v v v loosely outlined a third part to round the ‘verse out into a trilogy. it’d be a beth POV 5+1 that would start around the beginning of listening (which is pre-both hands), fill in some missing scenes from both and probably end either concurrently with listening or not long after.
other than that, obvs working on the last two chapters of song which are p thoroughly outlined, just waiting to be drafted. i’ve also outlined and started drafting what was supposed to be a fairly contained sex pollen PWP but is already upwards of a ridiculous number of words and has mostly been plot so far so that, you know, went off the rails.
i’ve also been thinking a lot about the pacific rim au again. it stalled out because i could not for the life of me figure out how to address everyone’s canon kid situations in satisfactory ways and couldn’t bring myself to leave the concept of kids out entirely (i know plenty of people have written wonderful and in character examples of the characters without kids but my brain is stuck in a box and i can’t get there for myself, it’s extremely annoying tbh), but i thiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiink i maybe cracked it so we’ll see if that actually ends up happening 
at my current rate of production this should take me all the way through to the show coming back, maybe beyond so i think that’s probably enough. *kicks snippets, prompts and ideas folder under the bed* one day i’m gonna write a buffyverse au, though, it’s only a matter of time.

Making Sense of the Yugioh Timeline (Post Arc-V)
Alright so if you have seen some of my speculation pieces before, you might be aware of my original piece centered around the Bootstrap Paradox. A Speculation piece around the scientific theory that Yusei Fudo is the pioneer of Accel Synchro, due to the fact Zone had to learn it from his research for him to indirectly teach it to Yusei in the course of events we see in the Anime.  This predicament is also known as “Who wrote Beethoven’s 5th.”  We know that this act created an entirely different timeline from the original line of events, simply due to Z-ones Historical records. We see in the original timeline that Yusei participated in tournaments with Aki and Hunter Pace something that does not occur due to Z-one’s interference. My conclusion to this speculation was the following, due to Z-one’s Meddling he completely altered the original line of events, in which Z-ones future took place in the original vision for Yugioh 5Ds with Rua being the 5th Signer and Crow inevitably becoming the final boss in the Dark Signer arc, a plot in motion before Blackwings blew up in popularity.  This also explained Jack Atlas’s absence in the historical records as the final triple duel against Goodwin wouldn’t have occurred leaving Jacks character development unfinished.   Now that I’ve got that out of the way lets delve into the timeline.  First things first we know for a fact the Yugioh Timeline pre V-rains looks akin to this: DM- GX - 5D’s - Zexal - Arc-V No its not intentional that this is in the order of release, that is the timeline; we can safely say now that there is no split. How? Zarc. Due to Zarc possessing all 4 summoning mechanics in the UNITED timeline before everything was segregated we can now confirm that Zexal takes place After 5Ds and not in a split timeline. Clearwing Synchro Dragon and XYZ Dark Rebellion Dragon cannot co-exist in a universe if both 5Ds and Zexal took place segregated from one another, note this is in the UNITED timeline before the dimensional split not after. If Zexal and 5Ds were split through a timeline then only one of those monsters could be in the possession of Zarc not both.  We also know Zexal has to take place After 5D’s and that the old Man isn’t Yugi Muto, how do we know this? Tetsu Trudge. Trudge is the embodiment of the confirmation as he is the same Tetsu that bullied Yugi Muto, if Zexal took place BEFORE 5Ds and after GX Tetsu would either have recollection or the XYZ summoning mechanic would have existed in 5Ds.  So this begs the question, why are Synchro’s absent in Zexal? I have a few theories based on actual events in the series that aren’t rooted in wacky time loops, and I will present a few of these below.  1. The old Man in Zexal is not an indication of 5Ds taking place in a separate timeline. This one is pretty easily debunked, the old man is a teacher and he crafts a new statue for every student that concludes their training. For all we know the amount of students he has taught can be linked to how many statues exist in that room aka not many.  Its entirely plausible that due to the sheer amount of legendary monsters whom exist in the anime verse, he just hasn’t gotten round to crafting a Synchro Monster or Stardust Dragon. We see so many monsters that represent many different legendary duelists from the first 2 eras, from Yugi, Kaiba, Joey, Judai, Ryo etc. We can’t confirm the existence of history through a man who enjoys crafting statues, especially when later information comes out supporting the fact that 5Ds and Zexal have to take place within the same line of events.  2. The Synchro mechanic was abandoned/outlawed.  Theory number 2 is my personal opinion as to what I believe actually took place and it does have some merit towards it. This theory takes place after the events of 5Ds, Yusei’s Fortune program succeeds in preventing a second Zero Reverse sparing the World from Z-ones fate. However due to the constant looming danger of Z-ones original future, as a precaution overtime the Synchro mechanic was abandoned. We know this is possible simply due to the fact it has already happened before; in Z-ones original future Antinomy was outraged at the decision of Synchros becoming outlawed, passionately proclaiming what Synchro Summoning stood for under Yusei Fudo.  In short we have seen this very situation occur already in the series so this is what I truly believe to be the case, as this would pretty much confirm why we see no mentions of Synchro’s in Zexal and the absence of culture such as Riding Duels which are synonymous with the Synchro summoning mechanic; out of fear that the end of the world could be the result in the continuing utilization of those monsters.  This allows Synchro’s and XYZ to co-exist later down the line in the united dimension, the mechanic being rediscovered and brought back over the course of a few decades-centuries. Which leads me to my final point. 3. Synchro’s were merely lost to time You know how we never see Rituals in 5Ds? Does that mean Ritual summons never actually existed? No, in this circumstance we could always see a future were the Synchro mechanic simply faded away in favour of XYZs or they were deemed obsolete.  The point of this piece is to simply convey the following: Just because they make no mention of these things in the future series doesn’t mean they didn’t occur all in one timeline. We cannot be certain just how wide the gap of time is when it pertains to how these series all link up with one another, for all we know Zexal could take place centuries after 5Ds in which case a lot of things can change throughout that gap; we also cannot say for certainty that these drastic theories of time loops and split timelines are canon when future evidence straight up contradicts these and states them to be false.  Yes, all of my theories are grounded by comparison. However they are tailor made to support and are foundered on past events we already know to be true from the previous series, such as the outlawing of Synchro as per Z-ones original future. Overall they have much more credibility and evidence behind them that supports the united timeline speculation than the general misconception of “Zexal and 5Ds are two separate timelines.” Something we now know has to be false thanks to the existence of Arc-V.

Forgive Me-Chloe x Halle (A Review)
Introduction 
I cannot describe how much I love this song and the entire Ungodly Hour album. I have replayed it countless times. So now that I have calmed down I could take this apart and appreciate it for what it is....ART. This song and video really plays on nostalgia, control and our generations idea of what a break up looks like.  
The Artist(s) 
So the first time I have ever heard or seen these beautiful girls was from Grown-ish. My friend actually described them as “little Beyonces”. At the time based on their content I agreed but after seeing what their music is like now I would say they are very different because of how much they have evolved.

So to the basics Chloe x Halle is a sister duo who have been singing since they were little kids and their range really proves that. Chloe the older of the two has a more soulful voice while Halle has an eerie, almost haunting voice. This is why their harmonies are so fire because of how different and unique their voices are. It just works!

So the lyrics are so to the point where I feel everything was on your face. There weren’t much allusions and or symbolism but it was still very effective in conveying every single emotion. So the song explains being betrayed by an ex. As seen in most popular songs about exs they tend to be depressing ie see any Taylor Swift song (no shade) but this one had me feeling empowered. Like yes you lied but I can and will do better for myself. 
The whole concept of “Forgive Me” is I am hurt as it is like you wasted my time and energy but I am not going to drown in it and you are going to be mad because I don’t want you back. For instance in the chorus Halle sings “ So forgive me, forgive me/I've been going too hard in your city/So forgive me, 'cause I'm not teary/Best believe I move onto better things” So in all it is this idea of the best revenge is showing someone that hurt you or left you behind that you are happy and doing well.

And y’all that just the chorus. 
These verses and the pre-chorus is the build up. It shows what went wrong in this relationship. I assume there was some cheating and he lied to cover it up according to the lyrics when Chloe says “You ain't gotta tell me what it is/ 'Cause I saw the messages/ You must got me fucked up”. The guy seems completely silenced by being confronted about it because he attempts to “plead the fifth” but that doesn’t even work. She is already gone! 
From the second verse also we see that it seems she knew about the affair and just watching the relationship fade. I am reminded of some people both male and female who stay in the relationship so when they break it off...they are somewhat emotionally detached. This is a means to protect yourself because it is a common thing in our generation to “win” the breakup. And maaaaan I think she won because we see evidence of him regretting what he did like in the lines “ Baby, don't you see, what you done threw away/Know it's hitting you, on the loop, on replay”.

I can appreciate this song a lot on a personal level because after a break up while it is easier to solely slander and criticize your ex, I think it takes so much more effort to put yourself first and try to be without. I mean getting back to who you were before being in love and then being betrayed is hard but it is healthier  and more productive than bad-mouthing that ex who isn’t worth your time. 
He or she is your ex for a reason right?  
I don’t think I need to talk about how flawless the vocals and arrangement are but I still am going to. As I noted previously, their voices are very different and uniquely so. The very subtle harmonies with Chloe holding that melody and Halle doing the adlibs/ background vocals is perfect for this song and its arrangement. Now I ain’t no music major but the chords, the bass and the harmonies were so reminiscent of late 90′s and early 2000′s R&B Pop music with heavy hitters like Aaliyah, Tony Braxton and even TLC. I grew up on that music and it really brought me back to the feeling I had when discovering that music as a kid. I can’t begin to describe the type of nostalgia I felt.   
The video 
Visuals. Visuals. Visuals. My guy, the shots from this music video totally floored me. I mentioned earlier about the arrangement reminding me of Aaliyah and so did the visuals. I literally had like 3 Aaliyah videos in my head: Try Again, We need a Resolution and Are you that Somebody. This isn’t to discredit Chole x Halle’s creation, it serves to say it is so good it can stand next to Aaliyah’s aesthetic and say “hey sis” in the most loving way. I am not sure if that was their intention but it genuinely made us 90′s babies happy. 
On another note I felt like the visuals aided the lyrics. I think this is where the big brain thoughts are going to make their appearance.
DISCLAIMER DISCLAIMER this is strictly my opinion/ 3 am thoughts based on some research.
 In the video there is a consistent theme of Chloe x Halle being these sexy dominatrices ie strong dominant women (mostly in a sexual way). Being a dominatrix is mainly about having control and calling the shots during sex both mentally and physically with the submissive’s permission and kink in mind. The reason I bring up sex is their wardrobe, lots of black leather, chains and those skin tight pants. If you see a picture of a generic dominatrix outfit it is similar to their outfits.How does this tie back to the song? By moving on and being happy that leaves them in control and that is symbolized by their clothing choice. But why would they make it sexual? Because firstly sex sells and they look amazing in leather and this general aesthetic works for them. Secondly in a break up there is a huge power struggle or dynamic and the clearest way that depicts that power struggle was from the choice of clothing and props. Does it stay very true to BDSM culture? Based on some research I did yes it does aesthetically. Relating to the lyrics of the song also yes as it focuses on having that control and existing in a newly developed power dynamic. Do you see the parallels?

Aside from the wardrobe, the overall theme was dark. Like are they really digging this man’s grave? Yes ma’am!. This shows how dead that relationship is and as much as he wants her back, she has to think about herself and her well being. That is so incredibly powerful.  
Also even from the pictures I chose, there is an underlying religious tone. What I understand from it from looking at the dance and certain visuals, it is maybe a play on going to confession. Like being happy after a break up is a sin and she should repent her sins but she won’t. She won’t say sorry for moving on. She will however say “forgive me for putting me first and not crying over you”.

So we have come to the end and I can’t explain to you my loves how amazing this song is to me. Amidst all the chaos in the world there was a certain calm when this video and album dropped. It is inspiring to see these young beautiful black female artists communicate their experiences through art. To be honest, it kind of got me writing again and this is the product. After an impromptu hiatus, a Pom is here once again with a massive blog update! <3
~Mako and Kiku are sporting a new theme! All the thanks yous and love in the world to @soulburnings​ for designing it for me, I love it so much <333
~With that in mind, literally everything has been redone! Rules, the girls’ abouts/bios, verses, relationships - With the exception of an incredibly tiny handful of things, I’ve spent the last four or so days literally rewriting everything and updating their information as a whole.
~Shipping as a whole is now CLOSED. I haven’t been all that interested in finding any more ships in quite a while for this blog, and with this redo, I’m closing it out completely. The ships I have right now are going to be the only ones I’ll have, and Kasa’s Takeru is both Mako and Kiku’s Vrains-exclusive ship. Shipping was never intended to be, and has not been, my ultimate goal, and I’m happy with the ones I have - Which means no more. The girls need friends.
~Kiku has a deck! I’ve likely mentioned it in HC posts before this, I can’t remember, but Kiku runs an Aroma archetype deck built for her by Mako and Takeru. She’s still learning the game and thus won’t really be showing it off at the moment, but she has one - And her own tag for it now exists, as well.
-Mako’s now mainly a Vrains-based OC. 99% of Mako’s development and growth has taken place in her Vrains verses in the last year, and as such, the choice to make her Vrains-based was an obvious one. Likewise, I’ve removed her GX, 5D’s, and Zexal verses from lack of use, and moved everything not her default main and pre-canon/canon Vrains verse to AU. Lightbound and Heartbound still remain her ‘canon verses’ for DM and ARC-V, they’re just not featured as main verses anymore.
~Post-canon is now the girls’ default verses. Details are on their bios and verse sections, but Kiku’s Shining Flowerfalls and Mako’s Fire In My Heart are their default verses, and where I’m more than likely going to set new threads unless requested otherwise. This does not apply to current threads, only new ones going forward.
~Anon is off. For personal reasons, I’ve turned off anon for the time being.
I’m going to start tackling threads again soon, as well as throwing down a starter call again here soon, and I do apologize for my absence. A lot of things happened all at once and threw me for a loop, and I needed to step away from writing completely - So further apologies if I end up coming off a little rusty, too! <3

HATCHIE - STAY WITH ME [8.08] The album's called Keepsake, and it's one we might want to hang on to...
Ian Mathers: I don't care what the lyrics say when you look them up, in the moment of listening I cannot decide each time whether "Stay With Me" starts with "it's all better, now you're gone" or "it's no better". I don't think the song can decide either. It's far from the first song to have that sort of power, just like the drum machine-and-synth, loop-and-swoop approach, while beautiful here, isn't exactly new. But I've heard dozens of songs like this (some even by Hatchie) since the last time one made me feel the way "Stay With Me" is making me feel right now. And isn't that maybe the only true miracle of pop music: that mere human beings can make "just another song," one that on the surface isn't that different than a bunch of others we merely like, and yet it can hit us just as profoundly, as heartwrenchingly bittersweet, as hopefully, as this one is hitting me right now? I could write an essay about the things in my life "Stay With Me" connects up to, people and times and places and songs, but it wouldn't make much sense to anyone else even if it wasn't incredibly, tiresomely self indulgent. But the experience I've been having with "Stay With Me" is among other things a reminder of the worth of staying connected and engaged with the world, in art as in all things, and not just going back to listen to all the things I already love instead. The chances of any other given human being having this reaction to this particular song today ("if I met you in a different moment/if I met you would I be this broken?") are small, sure, maybe even tiny. But god, I hope we all get to keep having those moments, and that we recognize the wonder of them in each other. [10]
Katherine St Asaph: I know this was written as a deliberate experiment in writing a pop song (or so they say; I too have claimed my paychecks as experiments), and thus I know the exact places the mechanics are there to get you (unending wistful chords, the yearning "Everything Is Embarrassing" vocal, with an octave jump exactly where it needs to happen), and the places the mechanics clank a bit too loud (the ending sags before the [perfect] bridge; "I'm not done / I've come undone" is kind of circular, kind of on its own nose). It's also been out for months. But the second time I heard this song it just happened to catch me at the exact moment of flood of memory, of accreted stupid unrequited crushes and breakups and failures and regrets, until I was in tears in a cab, which is really the ideal setting to hear this song. [9]
Edward Okulicz: Oh god, this hits me so hard in my heart, it hurts. "Stay With Me" would have been incredible had it been sung by someone like Foxes as a glass-shattering EDM epic, and it would have been incredible done as a shoegaze number by an alternative universe Lush, but it's also perfect as it is, midway between those two extremes. The lyrics are simple, but they're no more complicated than they need to be. It's some heavy-duty yearning but at the same time it's as light as air. I want to go dancing somewhere this is playing and stare down at my sneakers all night. [10]
Ashley Bardhan: This feels like pretty straightforward dream pop. Super soupy, drowsy vocals over a synth loop. It's very fine, very reminiscent of making out with a 23-year-old mattress boy named DYLAN. [6]
Julian Axelrod: Hatchie's ability to craft grand, immersive synthscapes is impressive, rivaled only by her commitment to pushing semi-formed lyrical conceits past the four-minute mark. [6]
Will Adams: There's a heartbreaking circularity to the lyrics ("you're the one who's won"; "I'm not done/I've come undone") that nails the sense of uncontrollable spinning that comes from an unrequited love. The vacillation between confidence and doubt, the paper-thin façade of indifference, the endless what-ifs and agonizing of what could have been had the cards fallen differently: they all add up to a devastating crush song that, despite never resolving, nonetheless sounds like a massive, necessary release. Alex Clifton: Drenched in reverb, gorgeous synths and a lovely vocal line, and feels like a beautiful dream. It sounds like the end of a movie where there's a montage of the main characters heading off into the sunset, unsure of their futures but exchanging significant looks with one another. I hope this blows up, makes it big, becomes as iconic as it sounds -- everyone needs to hear this song. [8]
Joshua Minsoo Kim: With a sturdy and prominent drum loop, "Stay With Me" brings to mind My Bloody Valentine's "Soon" and the sped-up Zeppelin sample on Chapterhouse's "Pearl." The key difference is how Hatchie's vocals are always front and center, clear enough that each word can permeate every synth pad and twangy guitar line and snappy kick drum with a melange of hopeful desperation and knowing despair. That spacious, ever-comfortable void that her voice rests inside reveals itself to be a place of unnerving contemplation. Despite this, Hatchie convinces you that this purgatorial dream state is far more desirable than the living Hell that is life spent all alone. [9]
Jacob Sujin Kuppermann: The art of the fadeout is an intentionally obscure one. It's the art of making the encroachment of silence into an instrument of its own, of stretching a song's end into a beautiful eternity. "Stay With Me" has a gorgeous fade-out, ending in a heartbeat of a drumtrack as its shoe-gaze-leaning guitars depart, but it in itself feels like a fadeout, taking the dying hopes of some vaguely sketched relationship and letting them sprawl out before you. It takes a while to get going (it didn't click for me until the bridge), but it's the kind of song that deserves your patience. [7]
Alfred Soto: So THIS is the synth pop bauble that Chvrches have failed to write for six years? It stinks of the past, peeks through v-shaped fingers at the future, and in Hatchie's sweet lies ("It's so better now you're gone") an ever-present present. [8]
Joshua Copperman: The tedious, nearly bass-less first half of "Stay With Me" surprised me, especially as so many TSJ colleagues were raving about this song. The lyrics are concise without being cliché, the production is a mostly interesting mix of Madchester drums and modern dream-pop, but I'm left living someone else's nostalgia. Like Snail Mail and other, similar acts, I'm an outsider for not having the same childhood as every other music writer. That doesn't make this a bad song: Once the live drums and harmonies kick in at 2:51, it becomes difficult not to fall in love with the song. But even that is probably because it evokes my own nostalgia -- it sounds like "Wake Up," and not the "Wake Up" indie rockers used to reference. (A bit like this pre-"Radioactive" Imagine Dragons song too, which I loved when I was 15.) And I still remain locked out; the YouTube comments claim that "listening to this song feels like being in a club on ecstasy in the 90's." But really, this feels like hearing someone else remember that oft-reminisced-upon time period, reminding me once more that things were apparently better before I got here. [6]
Vikram Joseph: From sixth form through much of my twenties, I thought I didn't really like dancing; far too late, I realised I just hated having to fake it in bleak, sticky-floored provincial or university clubs, damp with straight machismo and broken dreams. These days, I can lose my shit to "Dancing On My Own" and "Make Me Feel" in queer spaces I feel safe and happy in, and that's wonderful. It stings, though, to have missed out on a kind of transcendence I feel like I should have experienced on the cusp of adulthood, and "Stay With Me" speaks directly, powerfully to that part of me. Those "Born Slippy" synths feel soft-focus and hazy like inebriated happiness itself; Hatchie's vocals in the middle eight feel like they're grasping for something intangible and impossible, chasing every lost night and doomed love into the first glow of sunrise. This is slow-motion, tear-streaked disco-ball euphoria to remind you of nights you're not quite sure belong to you or to cinema; a fever-dream summer dance anthem that makes me believe that the perfect places we have always aspired to are eminently real, flickering in spaces that our younger selves could never have imagined existed. [9]
Iris Xie: When I review songs, I repeat them in order to sink in their atmosphere and be flooded into their sentiments, because otherwise, it doesn't come clear to me. In this discovery process, I often find myself compelled to sing and ad lib along. For "Stay With Me," at 2:50, I found myself unconsciously singing the bridge when the midpoint of the kicks off into the instrumental, specifically these two lines: "If I met you in a different moment/If I met you, would I be this broken?" I kept singing these two lines over and over again as each repeat occurs, and then I realized that the bridge is the verbal personification of the instrumental, and it is the underlying sentiment that drives all the stark, urgent confessions, so naked in their desperation and knowing that it is futile and they won't be heard, but nevertheless, they must be said. This stands in contrast with the first two lines, which put on such a brave face that contains a bitter heart: "It's all better now you're gone/It's all better on my own." When you sing these lyrics over each other, the synths are so lively and comforting in this melancholy and blend together with warm guitar strums, and solid drums to illuminate these sentiments. Hatchie is in pain from having to deal with such a broken void, and the vibrant singing of the bridge contrasts with the reluctant, forlorn sentiment of the initial verse, so it actually reads: "It's all better now you're gone/If I met you in a different moment/If I met you would I be this broken/It's all better on my own." Even though Hatchie acknowledges it feels wrong, saying "stay with me" is the balm that she settles on to ease this pain of her lover's departure because she's responsible for this pain. The beautiful part about the instrumental is that it reminds me of why music, and art overall, is so deeply important: when one is able to access the space of these heartfelt emotions, and to use the tools at your disposal to create the specific weight and textures of those experiences, it also can help give shape to those who are also feeling these certain ways, and allowing them to release and transmit it. I've shied away from my own private embarrassment and shame about this exact situation for years, and have only recently started talking about it with my therapist and supportive friends, but yesterday, I allowed myself to look through old journals and communications about that relationship. In reality, I never allowed myself to feel comfortable with the endless weight of these emotions and regrets, for I never wanted to be haphazard about the textures of this experience, even in making art about it. I feared it'd only sour the reality and aggravate my anxieties about people not taking the level of pain I had seriously and mocking it. Putting myself in that impossible situation for not wanting to mar those moments, I shut it down for the past few years. But I've had to let those similar feelings wash over me in the past few months to create art and even give justice to the reviews that I want to give on TSJ and elsewhere, so now I have to acknowledge that buried sadness. I no longer feel shame about that plaintive way to express my emotions about those situations, for this song's fuzzy, warm haze of disorientation is so familiar, and now I trust myself to just go, which is what I did with this review today. I guess that's one reason why pop is so lovely -- a salve for private hearts, not ready to debut, until they are. It's clear now. [8]

2. “21″ by Gracie Abrams.

A piano melody that resembles bells; to me, a soothing alarm. I wouldn’t hesitate to choose this as that song to wake up to. The note-repeating rhythmic acoustic guitar that joins it puts a feeling of rush inside my body. I’ve gotta be somewhere, but where? 
Gracie keeps up with the instrument with a few lines that help complete the feeling: She should be elsewhere as well. In this first verse she tells us she’s missing the birthday party of who I think is one of her first lovers (if not the very first), someone whit whom she’s been really close, considering their mother knows her well enough to love her. 
I don’t really get what Gracie’s trying to say in the pre chorus: “Sometimes I go blurry eyed, small talk and you tell me that you’re on fire. Lights on and it’s black and white, I couldn’t stay forever”.  I could easily search for the meaning of it in the “webs” but that would be cheating. I’ll eventually do it, but I wouldn’t put here the words of another person. To me, “small talk and you tell me that you’re on fire” sounds like they are fighting over stupid stuff, but I bet I’m looking too into the words and it means something entirely different.
This is the most upbeat track on the album, with a sweet low four on the floor that resembles a beating heart, which adds to that feeling of adrenaline I’m getting throughout the whole song. However, the lofi snare that comes before the kick gives me peace. 
The lines on the chorus are just beautiful: “I see the look in your eye and I’m biting my tongue. You’ll be the love of my life when I was young.” Who doesn’t remember their first love and all the feelings that came with it? The nervousness, the eagerness, the anticipation of it all.
Each side of the relationship has a story to tell, and, if something’s wrong, both will do whatever they can to defend their position, as it clearly states on the second chorus: 
“Just because you’re hurting doesn’t mean I’m not, (but) If it doesn’t go away by the time I turn thirty, I made a mistake and I’ll tell you I’m sorry.” It would take Gracie nine more years (since their lover just turned 21 and I’m assuming she’s the same age or younger) to realize she was wrong. 
The whole musical scheme doesn’t change much, except for a deep bass that comes halfway through the first chorus — lasting for a bit and coming again in the second chorus— and some percussive stops, which help “21” not become a dull, repetitive song, although I wouldn’t care, I’m a sucker for loops. The vocal harmonies, the different take on the same melody but this time on a windy synth, and some white-noise ambient that pans rhythmically AND randomly left and right also help raise the song to the top in the outro.
With a three minute and five second mark, I find this song really fun and easy to digest.
Personal Favorite Phrase: “Just because you're hurting doesn't mean I'm not."
Objective Findings:

Instruments: Piano, acoustic guitar, vocals, bass, kick and snare, synth, harmonies, and I’m guessing an ambient white noise generator, but it could be a pad or even wire brushes lightly scratching a snare. 
Chord Progression: I-V (G and D)
Effects: Reverb, delay, saturation, a chain of compressors, equalizers and limiters. 
Note: I’m sure they worked with more effects, but these are the ones that are more noticeable to me.
