“so happy the gaang got their happy ending”
what mf happy ending are we talking about exactly ?
you mean the happy ending where aang gets to live forever with the constant reminder that he is alone, that the genocide of his people happened and there is no going back ? where he has the responsibility to assure that the air nation doesn’t die off with him after his death ? where he has to forever live with the fact that he disappeared for 100 years and that the world he lives in now isn’t his. he’s a relic of the past, the testament of a forgotten culture, the last remaining of what is left of the air nomads. he’s alone, forever, at least a part of it died with his people, forever lost.
or you mean the happy ending where Katara & Sokka go back to their tribe, scarred forever by war and loss, having to rebuild the southern water tribe after 100 years of war ? having to rebuild their culture, forcefully destroyed by all those fire nations attacks ? forever living with the urge to cradle between their mom’s arms, but never quite being able to do it. Katara will forever see her mother in her brother, his face, his eyes, everything reminding her of her mom, how she misses her. and Sokka being unable to remember his mother’s face, always ending up picturing Katara instead. even with their dad on their side, Kya will always be missing.
or you mean the happy ending where Toph goes back to her toxic parents that really couldn’t care less for who she really is ? and leaving the gaang, the only family she ever really had, who have to take on various missions around the world to rebuild it after the war ? and let’s not forget how scarred and terrified she could be after barely surviving their last battle.
or maybe you mean the happy ending where Zuko, after living a childhood made of lies, abuse, neglect and grief, has to become fire lord at 16, with no idea on what he is doing ? after having half his face burned by his own father, for defending his nation, will experience numerous assassination attempts as a new ruler and have to rebuild the whole world because of the wrongdoings of his ancestors ? his hands are tainted red by blood that his swords didn’t shed, but the crown on his head now is his, and that’s all that matters in everyone’s eyes. that’s all that will always matter.
or you mean the happy ending where Suki, after months in prison, simply has to go on with her life as if nothing ever happened ? as if she hadn’t rot in prison for months ? as if she hadn’t experienced the war firsthand by helping the refugees in Ba Sing Se ?
or maybe you mean all those other kids, that the gaang met during the series.
characters like Haru, who saw his dad being imprisoned, fearing for his life and the life of his mother everyday.
character like the freedom fighters, orphans, who had to become child soldiers in order to survive, who built a family around the hope that they were doing something right. only for it to be washed out by the destroying of a village, and the splitting up of their group.
characters like Jet, who never even got to see a life after the war, who was born in a world scarred by flames and loss, forced to become a parental figure to dozens of orphans, and who died by the hands of his very own country, forgotten forever under a lake, among other forgotten bodies.
characters like Mai or Ty Lee, that never really got to choose what they wanted to do, forcefully put into a role maintained by fear and violence. in a world that asked only thing from them : to fight.
characters like Azula, who got her whole life taken away by one cruel man, forced to become a weapon. who’s forever scarred by the way she grew up, by the way no one saved her, no one helped her, by the way she lost her mom and her brother, because of one, very, cruel man.
or Yue, who sacrificed herself for the wrongdoings of yet another man, who never got to experience adulthood, never got to experience the joy of growing up.
y’all can’t even comprehend that they are all DOOMED. they will never have a normal life after the war, never. their whole lives are forever scarred by the mistakes made by thousands of people before they were even born. they are born with tragedy, loss and war in their blood. ALL OF THEM. nothing will ever change that, no matter how good their future could be. even Aang, who was born before the war, was ultimately tainted by the horrors of it. after experiencing, seeing, all the suffering, all the wrongdoings.
they got the weight of the world and the hopes of long gone generations on their shoulders. not a single one of them got to be kids. not a single one of them got to experience a normal childhood. not a single one of them will live freely after the war. some of them won’t even live after the war.
because how. how can you forget, how can you forget 100 years of pain and suffering ?
(I know this all sounds pretty pessimistic but they all make me so, so sad… I love all of these characters so much. all of them. they make me sad in the best way possible and the tragedy of their story will forever make me cry.)

idk i just feel like the more pressing matter with sokka is the fact he’s been played by a white dude than whether or not he still hates women or whatever. and it’s so weird too because the casting for everyone is pretty spot on at least broadly speaking and then you get to sokka and it’s just (karen smith voice) if you’re from the water tribe, why are you white?
Well, for starters, we don't actually know that he is white.
I'm reluctant to relitigate this at this juncture, since there's been a lot of speculation with very little evidence, and frankly, even if he is white, the cast is still a damn sight more diverse than any installment we've ever had. The original main cast of the show was white--with the exception of Zuko and Iroh--as was the main cast of the movie adaptation (again with the exception of Zuko and Iroh, funnily enough), AND the creators were white AND all of the writers were white (and almost all of them were men), which means that there were approximately zero poc with storytelling authority involved with the show. Even if Ian Ousley is white (which is still an if! and I'm not gonna be out here demanding his 23andme results), that's one flub against an entire cast of Asian&indigenous actors, showrunners, writers, and directors (of which there are also considerably more women than the original could boast).
I'm not willing to throw that baby out with the bathwater, so to speak, and I'm going to err on the side of if the rest of the cast is ok with his presence, then it shouldn't bother me too badly. They have excellent chemistry in interviews and on screen, and, from what I've seen, seem to be friends, and that's good enough for me.
Also, I just want to take this moment to point out that trying to rely on looks to determine who is or isn't a poc is problematic at best--and I think that, without bias, Ian doesn't look out of place next to Kia, Dallas, and Gordon. It's not like he's Jackson Rathbone, guys.

Even though Ahsoka's aroace in my main timeline, the time travel Ahsoka/Vestara ship is A Thing in my head, and I just came up with a take that's particularly satisfying in that inexplicable way villain AUs so often are:
The Force yeets Ahsoka from a few minutes after The Wrong Jedi to a point in time between LotF and FotJ, and a point in space that leads to her getting captured by Lady Rhea'a crew on the Eternal Crusader.
Ahsoka shows herself as a Force-user during the fight that leads to that. While she's unconscious in the brig, the Sith do some holonet searches and find out who she is. Vestara, who already has a crush on the pretty Togruta girl, decides to boost her own reputation as a Sith by providing the Lost Tribe with their first convert from off Kesh, so she seduces Ahsoka to the dark side.
In Ahsoka's personal timeline, it's been less than a day since the Jedi cast her out, and she's such a wreck in general that Vestara - who is by a long shot the hottest girl she's ever seen, and knows how to use it - doesn't have to do that much manipulation to get her to process the trauma from the betrayal, and the loss of faith and trust in the Jedi, into such a direction as to let in the dark side, and to fill the holes in Ahsoka's identity with that of a Sith.
So we get Ahsoka and Vestara as hot Sith girlfriends, and Ahsoka having to learn all of Kesh's cultural weirdness, not to mention that their system is not set up to accommodate recruits found this way, so the Circle has to figure out where she fits in. Which isn't fun.

Gimly's D&D 5E Player Characters - #3
Name: Khazaal the Apostate
Race: Hobgoblin
Class: War Cleric
Background: Slaver
Ability Modifiers: +4 Wisdom & Constitution; +0 Charisma
Campaign: I played Khazaal in a quick experiment thing my roommate and I did. One of us would build a dungeon out of tabletop terrain, and then the other would make a story and treasure and guards and traps for it, while the first would play as two characters and try to get through it, then switch. Seeing as this was just an experiment, and evil player characters often do not fit in actual campaigns, I figured this was my chance to bring the biggest bastards I could create to the table.
Khazaal and Legion (but especially Khazaal) were those two characters. They did end up beating the dungeon, but that's where I left them, probably forever.
Backstory: After Khazaal's vast hobgoblin warherd suffered a stunning defeat at the hands of small band of Acolyte heroes, she, the only survivor, questioned the immutability of her god Maglubiyet. She was cast out of goblinoid society for daring to think such heresies.
Even a Hobgoblin soldier as bold and enduring as Khazaal would not survive long alone, and without a tribe, she was forced to seek out strength elsewhere. On this journey, she met a group of zealots who were her match in combat, and soon after she became a devotee of the Wargod Bane, whose ruthlessness in battle reminded her of Maglubiyet, and whose symbol of the black hand, she likened to The Hand formation of Hobgoblin society, where she had once been a Fatal Axe.
Now with stability, Khazaal next sought out prosperity. To this end, she became a slaver, and was commissioned to search for slaves who had gone running.

Some initial design choices for the Forrad brothers cuz I've been focussing more on the Myriad Tribe and the assassin squad as I'm planning to try and write Niv's story (finally. After 4 years)
Some information about them under the cut!
Bendik Forrad is the older of the two brothers and is Niv's adoptive father. He found the boy in a burning ship as a newborn, with his parents no-where to be found. He had assumed they had perished in the fire and sunken to the bottom of the ocean, so he had decided to take the infant under his own wing to raise to become a successful member of the Myriad Tribe.
Bendik is a very strict parent (if you can even call him a parent) and due to a fear of bonding with others, not very emotionally available. He lost an older sibling bc of the assassin training program as a child and still has a lot of issues left over from it, resulting in the way he is as an adult. Still, he's regarded as a highly successful individual, being a part of the council and often being told he should challenge the current chief to become chief himself. It is quite unknown if he's actually gonna do this
He, his little brother Ludvig, and Niv all live together in the same hut and due to this forced proximity, he and Ludvig are closer than expected. Bendik still feels some sort of responsibility to his brother, certainly after Ludvig's difficulty entering adulthood
Ludvig Forrad, in return, is quite the bitter person. He failed his first assassin job as a teen and the guilt and shame that has brought him, hasn't faded yet. His whole life, he had been praised and had been told he'd become the greatest of his generation, but after his failure, all society would talk about, was his one mistake.
He's not exactly a loving uncle to Niv, being rather suspicious of this rascal of a boy and very distrusting of his capabilities. Ludvig believes Niv doesn't fit into the Myriad Tribe, but Bendik would kill him if he ever told him that. Still, Niv reminds him of the past that keeps haunting him over and over again - something in those eyes and in that way of speaking triggers him time and time again, causing in Ludvig often taking his anger out on the boy and leaving Niv terrified of what the man is capable of
Ludvig is, in fact, one of the most skilled assassins of the Myriad Tribe, but is never taken seriously bc of his past failures (he's very angy about that)

LITTLE BACKSTORY ABOUT MY VERSION OF DIMENTIO (USELESS STUFF?)
I saw some people think/draw/tell Dimentio's backstories pre Super Paper Mario events...
I would try to say something too. Idk lol.
However:
My version of Dimentio was a god like being, like the Ancient Tribe.
(I see the Ancients like deities because in SPM there is a church/sanctuary about them in Flipside.)
Dimentio was the last one remained of the Ancients Tribe and he was sane in the beginning.
Unfortunately, he was really prone to stress unlike the others Ancients and for him was particulary overwhelming ruling all universes/ dimentions but with the help of the other Ancients the work was more simple...
One day the Tribe of Ancients got erased suddenly because people who lived in the worlds ruled by the Ancients don't liked their rules. Only Merlee and Merlon survived. Dimentio too. But his mind changed after the trauma.
He swore revenge on the rebels and to create a world where anyone can't escape his control and his goverment.
He already suffered of narcissist personality disorder but now more than ever...
