I’m trying to figure out: if a robot girl takes a screenshot what’s it of? What she’s seeing? But a screenshot is usually a capture of output, not input, yeah? I’ve always thought of robot girls as running a “headless” OS and it just occurred to me that I don’t know what happens if you take a screenshot on those.
So to answer in reverse order: on a headless OS you usually just can't screenshot a headless OS. There's no screen to screenshot. In the rare case when you can screenshot it, you'll get a standard desktop with nothing running, because all the programs running don't use the GUI. (Although I've found out the hard way that even when you're trying to do that, sometimes programs will still open up dialog boxes. it's really terrible, never try to automate windows and visual studio, god).
As for robot girls, I imagine they do have a desktop, they're not headless. So like, you'd see some highly customized linux desktop looking thing, and among the windows open would be something like OBS, showing the input from her eyes.
So you would get a screenshot of what she's seeing, yeah, but you might also get things like system monitors (fans ramping up from being kissed by two girls at once), terminals doing various things, and browser windows to different pages. like googlin' "how do you kiss girls?" and things like that.
the desktop background is a cute anime girl or an os-tan, of course.

a new light in the dreary darkness
nanami kento x reader
warnings: none! i was just a little sad and lonely…
[i’ve been listening to djo’s new album on repeat and ‘potion’ is probably my favorite song on there. it’s so tender and sweet, it makes me want to fall in love. i highly recommend listening to it! so here’s a short drabble inspired by that song ! enjoy !! - bunnyy]
The sound of your car door slamming shut and the click of the automated lock echoed through the stillness of the night.
Normally, you’d flinch. Worried about bothering your neighbors with such sudden violent noises in the dead of night but tonight…you couldn’t find it in yourself to care.
Not one bit.
As you trudged up to the door of your dingy studio apartment, a heavy weight compressed your chest, your heart. It wasn’t a new feeling, by any means, but tonight it was especially unbearable.
Unlocking the door, you were met with a bleak darkness and a stale silence.
The pale moonlight illuminated the space, somehow accentuating the emptiness. Accentuating your loneliness. Visually representing the gaping hole in your heart.
Kicking off your shoes, you found that you had no appetite. Barely finding the strength to remove your clothing, switching your stiff work outfit for something much more comfortable and rid your face of the imaginary grime that painted your skin.
Collapsing into bed, you were relieved that it was Friday night, meaning that there would be no blaring alarm waking you at 5am. No meaningless small talk about weekend plans that didn’t exist. No sitting in front of the harsh light of your computer monitor for 8 hours.
This was seemingly the dull, never ending cycle that was your life. No end in sight. No new changes. Nothing but the monotonous day in, day out.
Until one friday night a few months later, when you parked your car with heavy shoulders. Slamming the door and locking up. Trudging up to your door and-
Huh?
Your normally gray and dreary apartment was bathed in warm light. The smell of eucalyptus sending a wave of calm through your body.
Carefully slipping out of your shoes and quietly locking the door, you stepped further only to freeze.
Cuddled up on your couch, glasses almost hanging off of his nose, book still open, soft snores leaving his lips.
Tears pricked at your tired eyes.
He…waited up for you?
Or, at least attempted to?
Your heart constricted in your chest as you approached, reaching out before you could stop yourself and running your fingers through his soft blonde hair.
His nose twitched as he roused from his sleep. Owlish hazel eyes blinking up at you before his features softened, lips pulling up into a sleepy grin.
“Welcome back, my love.” His voice was heavy with sleep but soft and tender all the same. “I’m sorry…I forgot you said you’d be back late, so I thought I’d wait for you. I guess I fell asleep.”
A tear slipped down your cheek. “Please don’t apologize, Kento…I-“ As the words died on your tongue, he pulled you onto his lap and held you close. Tucking you into his chest and pressing a kiss to your head.
“I’ll always wait up for you, hmm? Even if I’m asleep, I’ll leave on the light.”

A New Approach To Performances - Feb 2, 2025
(AKA, "What do you MEAN I can't use one MIDI controller for two programs at once???")
Many of you may know that I perform live! At conventions, at clubs and bars, and wherever else the world needs a dose of eurobeat, I've been performing my work on stage for many, many years now! Fewer of you may know that I've tried different approaches to my shows over the years— for a little while, I'd just play the songs end to end; then I learned how to DJ, and now most of my sets revolve around DJing.
Lately, I've been revisiting that, and trying to figure out new and more compelling ways to perform. For the last year on and off, I've been attending choreography classes. These have not resulted in me properly learning routines, but they HAVE boosted my confidence tremendously. As well, in the last few months I've dreamed up possible performance methods and workflows that are less DJ-centric so I can focus on singing, crowd interactions, the occasional novelty (maybe some keytar sections or playing a drum pad?), and some fun video effects.
Today I began putting that into action by trying out my various MIDI controllers, trying new configurations in Ableton Live and Bitwig Studio, and... failing. A lot.
It turns out, some of my ambitions of mapping multiple functions in two applications to one MIDI knob were a bit more ambitious than I thought they would be. Getting programs on the same computer to talk to each other is surprisingly more difficult than I thought it'd be. Getting Resolume Avenue and Bitwig to communicate worked, Avenue and Ableton surprisingly less so. And even then, getting one or the other to handle MIDI clock information in basic integer values has proven frustrating.
Instead of still trying to mix between two "decks" like DJs do, I may do it one of a few ways: * Pre-mix the set in Bitwig or Ableton, find "pause points" for water/audience interaction. I'd basically be performing to an automated experience, which would be easier to predict and work around, but with little to no flexibility. * Load in songs as clips instead of full-length audio, which would buy me back my cue points from the DJ years; but I'd still have to mix between songs, which increases potential failure points. * Find more innovative ways to use Traktor (my current DJ software of choice) and video/lighting programming, or pre-mix a few songs together and THEN load those into Traktor. Current performance method wouldn't change dramatically, but the overall visual appeal would improve. * Make shorter versions of my songs I play through from start to end, like a traditional concert. (Doesn't seem right, given the nature of eurobeat; but it's not far from what a few eurobeat stars do already!) * Keep pushing towards building a whole one-laptop visual audio extravaganza, restraints be darned.
...I want to see what I can do with some MIDI automation and video for now, with maybe one play-in "novelty" and automated vocal effects with some optional ones I can dial in any time. It'll be a bit weird to surrender some of my control over which songs play when, but I want to start building a more compelling, less DJ-specific live set where I'm a bit more of a performer. I think I'm onto something with this, though time and figuring out the tech will tell.
I'll be chipping away at it in the month(s) ahead. Who knows? If I get it ready in time, it may not be long before it gets a test drive at a real show! 😉

No matter how horny your boss is for replacing you with an AI, a union will cool his ardor
Tumblr media
If the studios can’t use AI to fire writers and replace them with chatbots, they have no reason to shell out millions for enterprise licenses.
Now, there are plenty of other workers in the film-production pipeline that bosses are hoping to make unemployed so that their salaries can be rendered unto the shareholders.
Hollywood is one of the most heavily unionized sectors in America, but there still gaps where workers are atomized and bosses can act without fear of a strike.
For example, there’s the visual effects (VFX) workers, famously unorganized, whose wage-bills are a big chunk of any film budget. These workers already have a heavily automated pipeline driven by sophisticated computer technology, so perhaps they can all be fired and replaced with software?
Well, maybe (especially if you don’t care whether the VFX the software produces is good, and only care about satificing).
Which is why Disney/Marvel’s VFX workers just voted to unionize. What’s more, if Disney doesn’t give them a contract ASAP, the hard-charging general counsel of the National Labor Relations Board is going to simply force the company to honor the terms that other unionzed workers get through their contract.
Unions are back, baby, and the NLRB has instituted a new, zero-tolerance policy for union-busting. Everyone is unionizing, from strippers to Starbucks baristas, and the writers just proved that no matter how horny your boss is for replacing you with an AI, a union will cool his ardor.
-How the Writers Guild sunk AI's ship: No one's gonna buy enterprise AI licenses if they can't fire their workers

— Explaining Konohagakure’s Barrier Team from Naruto to Boruto:
The information presented in this post has been checked and revised. My aim is not to hate or to discredit any of the characters mentioned. Please read about me for further information.
This post will contain evidence in picture format directly from the manga Naruto (1999 - 2014) created by Masashi Kishimoto and published by Shueisha in 1999. I will also use information from the official databooks.
This informative post will explain the role and utility of the Barrier Team from its debut in Naruto to its role in Boruto. I will use information present in the novels and the Boruto manga because it includes character development within canon compliance.
This meta is crossposted in AO3.
I give my permission to use or share this thread with informative purposes as long as you credit me.
I do not support the anime or the work of Studio Pierrot in regards to Naruto because I consider it over exaggerated and beyond biased. Furthermore, these fillers include some actions that these characters are unable to do in the canon according to official sources and they also generate unnecessary debate.
This meta does contain anime scenes from Boruto because it is a monthly manga draft that depends heavily on anime for context.
Please, take this into consideration.
This meta will include a small discussion from my own point of view about the Barrier Team and its members. There will be criticism and complaints, comparisons with other characters, previous leaders, etc.
Tumblr media
The Barrier Team (結界班, Kekkai-Han) is an organization formed by sensor-type shinobi and regular shinobi in charge of maintaining the Sensing Barrier, a giant sphere surrounding Konohagakure and its outskirts, which detects any foreign chakra that crosses the border of the village and the area around it. Many years after the Fourth Shinobi World War, it has been mechanized and transformed into an automated sensing system managed by chūnin and a few sensor-type shinobi and currently led by members of the Yamanaka Clan (although the manga isn't very clear about it).
HISTORY
It's unknown for how long this team has existed, but the Barrier Team debuted in chapter 415 of Naruto. Based on its development, Konoha has kept a Konoha-wide exclusive sensing technique through the ages and, among their ranks, they count with sensor-type shinobi like Hyūga clan members.
This team also has their own unique crest in the shape of an inverted triangle with three circles inside, worn by their members in their clothes in armbands or hats.
Tumblr media
Sensing Barrier and Sensing Water Sphere according to the fourth databook.
Naruto:
During the era of the Fifth Hokage, the Barrier Team was a rather small team located in a room (most likely inside the Hokage Residence) where the large Sensing Water Sphere was guarded and monitored by three sensor-type wearing Shinto robes. According to the fourth databook, Kakoi, one of the sensor-type Shinto priests, was "The leader of the Barrier Team" at the time of debut (結界班の長, Kekkai-Han no naga).
Tumblr media
Kakoi's profile in the fourth databook, page 209.
The Sensing Water Sphere represents the invisible Sensing Barrier around Konoha and the periphery, and the role of the Shinto priests was to inform of any unfamiliar chakra signature that crossed this barrier. When someone or something charged with chakra bypassed the barrier, the Sensing Water Sphere rippled around the area where the aura had been detected; a team of stationary chūnin were automatically sent to the location of the disturbance to investigate the threat.
The Sensing Barrier is the village's last line of defense against intruders. In the outskirts of Konoha, the village has several lookout posts with shinobi who are the first ones to visually detect intruders in the area. Pain was able to successfully bypass the Barrier because he had taken down the lookouts, who would have otherwise alerted the village first.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The lookouts from Naruto chapter 418.
Unofficially, the Barrier Team used to be divided in two groups:
The Detection was the division formed by the sensor-type Shinto priests and the lookouts.
The Interception was the division formed by chūnin, with Izumo Kamizuki and Kotetsu Hagane among these shinobi, in charge of investigating the threat and fighting the intruders.
Tumblr media
The Barrier Team headquarters and both divisions in chapter 419.
The Sensing Barrier extends from the small portion of forest before the very entrance and walls of the A-Un gate, to the portion of land behind the Hokage Rock, according to the view the manga offers, from the right side view. This means that anyone entering the barrier will be detected before they reach the main gates of Konoha, but not if they halt before the barrier itself. Only Pain could come undetected to the very limit of the barrier due to the visibility his Rinnegan granted him; however, the exact spot of the barrier is most likely unknown to non-Konoha shinobi.
According to Pain, it's revealed that the Barrier Team has a special jutsu to get through the barrier without being noticed applicable to ANBU and probably Konoha shinobi, which allowed Itachi Uchiha and Kisame Hoshigaki to enter without alarm thanks to one of the Akatsuki being a former Konoha ANBU.
Tumblr media
The view of the full sensing dome from the right angle (Hokage Monument to the right, A-Un Gate to the left) in chapter 419.
The Sensing Water Sphere, the Sensing Barrier and the sensor-type Shinto priests, or more specifically Kakoi, and all the staff members in the Detection group in the current era, are symbiotically connected with each other. This means that Kakoi’s sensory range and the rest of the staff, only correspond to the range of the Sensing Barrier and not farther, just confirmed by the presence of Pain and his summons by the limit, undetected. This detail also applies to future leaders who are currently replacing Kakoi.
Tumblr media
Kakoi's symbiosis with the Sensing Barrier when he only detects Chikushodo (Animal Path) upon bypassing in chapter 419.
The role of the Barrier Team has remained the same through the eras, meaning that their job is to sense disturbances detected by the Water Sensing Sphere and inform shinobi teams to attack the possible threats. The Sensing Barrier has always remained Konoha–wide too.
Although the Barrier Team doesn't appear again until the Blank Period and Boruto: Naruto Next Generations, we could see a similar version of it during the Fourth Shinobi World War but on a greater scale.
Ao, a former ANBU and outstanding sensor-type from Kirigakure, was appointed the captain of the Sensor Division during the conflict. Alone, he could detect the presence of the reincarnated shinobi among the hundreds of White Zetsu clones in every division of the Allied Shinobi Forces through his Sensing Water Sphere, including natural energy which only a few selected sensors can perceive.
Tumblr media
Ao maintaining the Sensing Water Sphere and sensing the White Zetsu army in chapter 525.
Blank Period:
The next time the Barrier Team appears is in the Sasuke Shinden and Sakura Hiden novels:
According to Sasuke Shinden, after Pain’s attack, Konoha set up a more powerful barrier. However, the exploding humans could bypass the Sensing Sphere because they were Konoha shinobi, and thus, they are not considered intruders. The novel also confirms that the Interception group still exists and they also send messenger shinobi to alert the Hokage.
In Sakura Hiden, we notice a few modernizations. After Sakura Haruno defeated Kido Tsumiki, Kakashi arrived at the scene but was shortly cut by an instant Mind Body Transmission message from the Barrier Team alerting him of ANBU leaving the village.
Tumblr media
Sasuke Shinden (above) and Sakura Hiden (below).
This detail is key to the development of the Barrier Team in Boruto, as telepathy via Chakra Transmission Communication Device becomes one of the most used tools by the team.
Boruto:
By the era of the Seventh Hokage, the Barrier Team has continued to function the same was as before, with the exception of a few changes:
Although there aren't any significant changes in headquarters, the Hokage Residence was reconstructed after Pain’s invasion and so was the Barrier Team chamber. The location of the team has been confirmed in the anime to be inside the Hokage Residence.
The room has decreased in size and the area for the Interception Team has been replaced, in favor of a new Detection Team about the same size as the previous one and with the same amount of people monitoring the Sensing Barrier, although instead of Shinto priests, the members are now regular chūnin.
In the manga, the room only takes a corner of an unknown location in the Hokage Residence. The automated sensing sphere has been replaced by monitors instead.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Barrier Team headquarters in the anime and the manga.
According to Kashin Koji, Konoha used to have a Sensory Team led by members of the Yamanaka clan. However, this information is false.
Tumblr media
Kashin Koji explaining the "role" of the Yamanaka clan in episode 211.
The Yamanaka clan, or at least the only member of the clan in Konoha (apart from Ino and later Santa) was Inoichi Yamanaka, was in charge of the Analysis Team by performing Psycho Mind Transmission on targets that couldn't be interrogated by Ibiki Morino. There are no Yamanaka clan members aside from those three in Konoha, as Inoichi’s subordinates in the Analysis Team are all shinobi of other origins such as Mawashi Dokuraku, Tonbo Tobitake and Aoba Yamashiro, and Fū Yamanaka was an ANBU. Aoba is also the only person other than Inoichi capable of performing Psycho Mind Transmission as seen in chapter 507 and Sasuke Shinden.
Currently, Inoichi and Fū are dead, Santa's whereabouts being unknown and Ino is the only one that remains from the small family. In Konoha, only Sai, Ino and Inojin are members of the family.
The Barrier Team's members aren't Yamanaka either. Members of this clan have distinctive physical characteristics that make them easy to identify, like the long blonde or light colored hair, blue eyes and the ponytail (their clan's trademark). The male shinobi from the team that we can see in the manga have short dark hair. Another point is that if they were Yamanaka, there wouldn't be an automated sensory system because the members would be able to sense and communicate without the technology.
The Barrier Team as we know it now in Boruto exists so that regular shinobi can sense, track and communicate thanks to the technology the automated system provides without external aid or third parties. If they were reliant on anybody outside their headquarters who is not linked to the mechanics and could sense, track or communicate by themselves, they wouldn't exist.
(I personally want to remind you that the Yamanaka Clan isn't known for being sensors of that calibre. They use Yin Release to control other people or even animals to take advantage of their senses. Masashi Kishimoto described as a form of sensing in the third databook. By using Mind Body Switch, Ino controlled a bird to find the Akatsuki members Hidan and Kakuzu even though they were nearby, meaning she doesn't have sensing skills past her own vicinity and surroundings. Mind Body Transmission doesn't use sensory skills to connect people either as it is a telepathy area like a Bluetooth. Telepathy works by sharing their chakra with others as stated by Inoichi.)
Tumblr media
Ino's sensing through controlling other species and the Mind Body Transmission range.
Moreover, the people in charge of the Barrier Team were Kakoi and his team of Shinto priests. This information was fixed in the anime, acknowledging the presence of the Shinto priests and Kakoi after Ukyō Kodachi rewrote the history of Konoha. Many plot points of Boruto that were originally taken from Naruto have been rewritten, this being one of them.
Tumblr media
Kakoi described as a predecessor of the Barrier Team in episode 177.
Ukyō Kodachi has renamed this team as Sensory Team or Sensory Unit, although it's still called by its original name, Barrier Team, in manga and anime in many occasions.
To shed more context into the new era, according to Ino Yamanaka, the Barrier Team has been mechanized and modernized to replace sensor-types with an automated sensing. The Sensing Water Sphere has been replaced by a Scientific Ninja Tools sphere that detects intruders whose chakra has never been identified or saved by the database automatically and an alarm that triggers upon contact inside headquarters.
In the manga, the Sensing Water Sphere has been replaced by screens and the area only takes about a corner.
The new automated system also includes a database with the imprint of Konoha shinobi memorized in it, so anyone not registered within the system will be spotted.

Ino Yamanaka explains the new sensing system made by Katasuke Tōnō and its design in the manga in episode 177 and chapter 81.
The range of the Sensing Barrier has decreased drastically, to the point of only covering from the gates to the Hokage Monument, instead of adding the periphery and the forest like previously established.
They have also decided to eliminate the lookouts that provided a first line of defense in case there were people lurking around the area.
This is confirmed by Delta and Kashin Koji speaking on a tree branch by the A-Un Gate and passing undetected by anyone and Delta moving around the trees by the wall, even though they were within the previous range established by Kakoi in the Pain Arc. As soon as Delta crossed the walls, she was detected, but not before.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Delta and Kashin Koji (to the left) right by Konoha's main gate, A-Un, undetected and Delta being undetected while moving in chapter 30.
The new Barrier Team didn't think about erasing the chakra signature of the deceased Jiraiya either, therefore, Kashin Koji, a Jiraiya clone, is able to come and go in and out of the village undetected. It also doesn't detect objects such as drones, so enemies can use their non chakra-powered devices for surveillance or other tasks.
Led by Ino Yamanaka herself and the other shinobi, the Barrier Team only counts with the Detection group, formed by three chūnin in charge of sensing, or rather, looking at the screens for any intruder and informing anyone they must. According to Shikadai Nara, the Interception group has been disbanded, now only informing Naruto Uzumaki and Sasuke Uchiha of danger so they can take care of it themselves.
The new Detection group informs via telepathy using the Chakra Communication Device, a tool used by the Allied Shinobi Forces to connect each division scattered across the map with each other. This device can cover greater distances than a regular shinobi, therefore we see Mind Body Transmission users, as well as regular shinobi (probably Yin Release users) from the Intelligence Division and other members of each division, wear it.
Despite adult Ino being able to cover at least 100km with Mind Body Transmission unaided, we also see her wear it during The Last: Naruto the Movie to receive messages from other villages, clearly outside her range.
The new Chakra Communication Device from the Barrier Team is a much more modern version of the previous one used by the Alliance. Moreover, all communications performed by the Barrier Team, the content of all mind transmissions, are stored in their own database in order to be analyzed or monitored. The Chakra Communication Device is connected the the rest of the automated sensing system to save all images, chakra prints and telepathy relays.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The telepathy device has a stationary version and two portable versions. Ino using it in the Blank Period and the modern version used by Barrier Team in chapters 537, 520, movie and episode 177 and chapter 84.
As aforementioned, the role of the Barrier Team continues to be that of detecting unfamiliar chakra signatures and informing certain individuals to go and investigate. This time, as soon as someone is detected, Ino could at times contact headquarters to ask them if the presence is registered by the database, and, if not, she will contact Naruto and Sasuke to investigate. Other times, headquarters will perform this task without her aid.
Moreover, they can only detect things charged up with chakra, but not objects like Delta’s drones or shinobi erasing their chakra. This is pointed out by Kawaki, who can fool the Barrier Team by erasing his chakra signature and complains that they are “incompetent” and “only rely on sensing chakra”. This hinders Konoha’s protection.
Tumblr media

It seems that the new modernized version has not only decreased the sensory range of the Sensing Barrier of Kakoi’s time, but it also appears to be unable to deploy a boosting sensing system. In fact, Boruto was flaring his chakra on purpose while he was still inside the village. However, nobody in the Barrier Team was able to pick this up.
Not only does this inaptitude make it impossible to predict upcoming danger before bypassing the A-Un Gate, but it also makes it an impossible task to follow enemies when they have fled away from the borders.
Tumblr media
Ino explains they are unable to trace anything beyond the gates or erased chakra in episode 291.
For this same reason, Naruto Uzumaki had to step in and track Kawaki and Boruto by himself with Sage Mode.
When Kawaki and Boruto Uzumaki left the village, the Barrier Team could not detect them 40 kilometers outside Konoha because they were too far away from their limits. However, Naruto could finish what Ino or headquarters could not, even despite not having Kurama’s power for the extra boost.
Tumblr media
Boruto flares his chakra to no response. Naruto detects Boruto in the battlefield against Code around 40 kilometers away with his sensing skills in episode 292.
One of the most interesting details about the new Barrier Team is that they are self-sufficient and automated because they possess technology to detect chakra imprints without the use of sensor-types, as well as being able to perform telepathy via Mind Body Transmission thanks to their Chakra Transmission Communication Device without external aid.
This clearly makes the role of their leader very questionable but it's not surprising that this is the case.
We have already witnessed the Barrier Team function perfectly without the presence of members of the Yamanaka clan, not only during Kakoi’s time, whose job and abilities are the same and above the current Barrier Team, but also during this era.
This is because the upgraded system with the machines and the automated design exists so that its members, regardless of their background, can perform their duty alone. There is nobody enabling their telepathy or their sensory range. If that was the case, there would be no point in that technology if an outsider or anybody else was doing all the work.
There have been many chapters where the automated sensing and the staff detected (or undetected) chakra signatures using their alarms and their screens, and also contacted Shikamaru Nara or other people through telepathy using their Chakra Transmission Communication Devices.
As of chapters 77, 81 and 88 for example (and future chapters) of Boruto, the Barrier Team is solely demonstrating that they're indeed a self-sufficient team, with any chance of external aid or participation unnecessary, such as Ino Yamanaka from her place in the flowershop that has been taken over by the staff wearing telepathy devices and monitoring the sensing screens at all times. Her role has been changed, now using Mind Body Transmission herself if anyone asks her personally, rather than keeping the connection linked to the system if the users want to keep their conversation privy to the database or anyone that might be interested.

How does the Barrier Team work and what is their role?
Detect chakra signatures that bypass the Sensing Barrier.
Inform the Interception group and send them to investigate. In the new era, inform Naruto Uzumaki and Sasuke Uchiha telepathically.
DISCUSSION
How important is the Barrier Team?
The Barrier Team has experienced a surge of utility in Boruto compared to Naruto. However, being written into the story does not equal being more important.
Originally, they were introduced quite late in the story. Konoha has experienced invasions since Orochimaru infiltrated during the Chūnin Exams disguised as the Kazekage, although their role during Pain’s invasion was decisive to demonstrate that Konoha has countermeasures against enemies looking to enter the village.
Masashi Kishimoto created a group of shinobi exclusively to lead the Barrier Team. This was neglected by Ukyō Kodachi, and he also made it that any sensor-type could replace Kakoi and company.
The equivalent of Konoha's Barrier Team was the Sensor Division. They worked in tandem with Mukta Aburame to discover that the enemy possessed an army of White Zetsu ready, and their captain, Ao, was also responsible of discerning the reincarnated Edo Tensei from the White Zetsu and informing Darui that Ginkaku and Kinkaku were among the ranks.
Tumblr media
Ao senses the White Zetsu among the Edo Tensei and the presence of the twins in chapter 525.
So, the Barrier Team is essential to safeguard Konoha from the inside. Detecting anyone on the spot that has entered is one of the first steps to keep its villagers safe.
In Boruto, the Barrier Team suffered a downgrade compared to the previous appearance. Also counting 15 years of technological advancements that could have been implemented within their ranks, but haven't happened. Because of Kara’s interests in Kawaki, who is currently protected by Konoha, they must maintain their Sensing Barrier in top condition to detect enemies.
A mistake made by Ukyō Kodachi, who made the Yamanaka clan, or rather, Ino, the leader or responsible of this team, is that he made people without tracking feats in Naruto, a representative of sensor-types in Boruto, as they don't sense chakra for tracking purposes, they overtake senses. Choosing someone that can't at least equal, maybe not surpass because it's impossible, Naruto’s sensing techniques granted by Sage Mode even after “nerfing” him, leaves much to be desired about Konoha’s resources and their range of sensor-types.
As well as the plot choosing to forget other essential sensors whose abilities don't rely on chakra such as Aburame clan members with their bugs for surveillance and close communication, the Hyūga clan members with their 20km or ore visual range, or the Inuzuka clan members who can track people across vast distances based on scent alone.
The failures of the Barrier Team:
One of the reasons behind the surge of importance of the Barrier Team is due to Kara’s interests in Kawaki and Code’s desire to destroy Konoha. However, they also shine for their lack of resources and skills; and their lack of applying experience to reforming the new system learning by previous mistakes.
After fighting a large scale global conflict with reincarnated bodies and White Zetsu able to imitate shinobi chakra signatures (i.e White Zetsu impersonating Neji Hyūga to assassinate Sakura Haruno), Konoha’s new automated database and sensing system has not flagged chakra imprints from deceased shinobi like Jiraiya, prompting Kashin Koji to walk into the village as he pleases.
Tumblr media
Sakura Haruno discovers White Zetsu's way of copying unique chakra imprints to fool sensor-types in chapter 540,
Moreover, they rely solely on detecting chakra, making shinobi like Kawaki and Boruto, who can erase their chakra flare thanks to their Karma, and Karin, who can erase her chakra at discretion, to be able to enter or escape the village without being detected by the system or lookouts who are extremely apathetic. Not to mention none of the gates have lookouts like the ones in the War or use other sensing methods like Inuzuka clan, Hyūga clan (who used to be members) or Aburame clan alternative sensing skills that do not require sensing chakra.
Tumblr media
Hyūga with their eyes, Inuzuka with their noses and Aburame with their beetles being pivotal in tracking and sensing. in chapters 419, 467 and 540.
The sensors working for the Barrier Team are very limited to sensing only what's inside the Barrier, making their sensory feats only Konoha-wide or Sensing Barrier-wide. This sensing symbiosis with the Sensing Barrier is a problem, which means that sensors’ skills scale to a machine rather than having abilities of their own. This problem results in them only sensing people when they have already entered Konoha, but not their approach, thus not preventing anything. If the enemy masks their chakra, these efforts are useless because they will not be detected.
This is more apparent for Ino Yamanaka, one of Naruto's classmates with a prominent role as a Mind Body Switch user in Ino-Shika-Cho/Team 10 in the prequel, who was made into the leader of a sensing team and given prominence as someone that could potentially have above average sensing skills, but has failed to compel.
After having no sensing feats in Naruto, she's given a Konoha-wide sensing range equal to the Sensing Barrier’s Konoha-wide sensory to increase her importance. This way, her sensing power scales to the machine at headquarters. However, after she debuts being able to sense Delta enter Konoha like a competent Konoha sensor, she gets gradually worse when it's discovered that she's unable to sense people outside Konoha like Delta and Kashin Koji a few meters from the A-Un Gate or Kawaki and Boruto. Knowing she can't detect anything beyond the gates, it's questionable why a character like her would be chosen to participate in the role of a sensor-type within a team that is completely automated and not reliant on anyone for their basic task.
The writing made the Yamanaka clan into a sensory clan instead of sticking to their original role (or Inoichi’s role because he was the only member in Konoha like aforementioned) as mind interrogators to gather intel, which was scrapped and the whole family rewritten. This inclusion makes it all the more forced and nonsensical.
Tumblr media
Inoichi Yamanaka and the Analysis Team using Psycho Mind Transmission.
Her lack of skills and Naruto’s necessity to use Sage Mode to complete the job of the Barrier Team, has led Mikio Ikemoto to currently use the team without Ino and instead use her like a private telepathy link as she really makes no difference in or out of the team.
Because Ino’s skills as a sensor and telepath are already a task completed by the Barrier Team’s automated sensing and Chakra Transmission Communication Device, it's better to write the team as it was originally intended and introduced rather than keeping third parties who aren't even present in headquarters to monitor any inconvenience like a part of it; because she's fulfilling a role that should not be hers while also failing to do it decently. Connecting people telepathically and detecting intruders is already a role covered by the Barrier Team.
Could they be redeemed?
The greatest disadvantage of the Barrier Team is their small sensing range and their inability to rely on other sensing methods than chakra perception.
After exposing the main problems related to not erasing deceased people’s chakra imprints from their database and failing to boost their system in case of emergency, there are a few points to make in order to make the Barrier Team a competent and compelled facility:
Reuse Kakoi’s greater Sensing Barrier to track Konoha’s forest area before the A-Un Gate.
Use other sensory and perception techniques from other clans like Aburame’s beetles, Hyūga’s Byakugan and Inuzuka’s ninken/sense of smell to counter shinobi’s ability to erase their chakra signature and keeping a wider range of search.
Put the Akimichi clan in the lookout by every gate like they used to guard the Logistical Support & Medical Division during the Fourth Shinobi World War, this way being able to see approaching danger and fighting them before their entrance to give Konoha time to elaborate a plan.
Considered the most powerful shinobi village, using past experiences and the full power of Konoha's shinobi forces, their clans and their technology, could prevent infiltrations; as well as giving each member of a clan their deserved time to show their abilities.
Note: The Fourth Shinobi World W4r has been replaced by global conflict to avoid mature content flags.

Am I a programmer?
I've spent the last weeks developing an actual little app using Python...
It all started with a Let's Play of Subnautica I saw on YouTube. Since Subnautica is one of my all-time favorite games, I got the itch to dive back in (pun intended). I play with tons of mods, so I had to check for a lot of updates and also juggle different versions since the last Subnautica update broke a lot of the older mods. So after some back and forth, I decided to remain on the older version for now. Great! But then I noticed that because of that back and forth and uninstalling mods, all my mods were reinitialized, and that meant trouble for one of my favorite mods, Autosort Lockers. The mod adds automatic resource sorting inside the game, which is super handy. But it was built to only work with the game's resources, not modded items. It does offer config files though. So when I last used the mod, I painstakingly edited the configs and added all modded items, which took hours. And now, I accidentally messed them up and was supposed to redo all of that. The thought filled me with dread. So I asked ChatGPT, which I have grown quite fond of recently, to help me. Why did I ask ChatGPT? Well, I need to go a bit further back in time to explain that.
One day, not too long ago, I asked ChatGPT to reformat a long list. ChatGPT said, "Apologies, I cannot process such a long list. Here's a Python script, here's how to install Python, copy the script, run it and it will do what you want." I thought ChatGPT was crazy, surely that would never work!? Nut I was curious and also a little desperate so I did install Python and ran the script and ... it did what I wanted. I was stunned. Could I use ChatGPT to write code for me? Apparently, the answer was yes. So I spent a lot of time directing it, add this, add that, and I noticed that it was not at all as easy as I thought. ChatGPT removed code when it felt like it, and the longer it got the more it messed up. But also the more time I spent copying/pasting Python code, the more I understood. Sometimes, I would just ask "What exactly does this bit do?", and ChatGPT patiently gave me answers. Running the Python code from the command prompt got tedious very quickly though. I asked: "Can't you make a button for me that I can click??" To my surprise, ChatGPT said: "Sure, let's make a gui." And that was it, the moment I fell in love with Python. So I made a few attempts at this and that, most only half-finished because the project got too ambitious for the little knowledge I had.
I heard about an AI especially made for writing code: Github's Copilot. I decided I had to try that. Since it only worked in real programmer's tools, I installed Visual Studio Code. Now I really felt like a programmer, using fancy tools! And Copilot made things easier, much easier. It did not delete all kinds of code like regular ChatGPT. It was even more helpful. I was super motivated and got to work on my "Autosort Lockers Filter Update Helper" since Python is very well suited for automating stuff. Because several config files were involved, and several values needed to be loaded, converted, compared, merged, loooked up, reformatted, and saved into multiple files, it was quite the undertaking, but I am at a point where most of the logic actually works and I have a real program with real buttons that I can click on. I made a program that actually works with my very limited coding knowledge! It would not have been possible without the help of AI. My patience and long hours paid off. Can I call myself a programmer yet? I'm not sure, since the code was written mostly by AI, not me personally. But I can confidently call myself the director and mastermind behind it 😎 and I actually want to learn more about Python so I can one-day code stuff myself without needing AI to do it for me. The app is not in a publishable state and I guess I would need to do far more tests and let someone who can actually code Python look it over before I would feel comfortable sharing it with anyone else, but it feels incredible to have pulled off something like this. I just wanted to share this accomplishment with someone!
