The only reason I'm not going into about the writing as well is because this is SO worth reading for yourself.

But holy fucking shit you guys this is so good. The visuals do not overshadow the writing, in fact they must be at this level to meet the bar.

If you aren't reading absolute wonder woman you are doing yourself a disservice.

I have always been a little obsessed with this version of the stained glass window back drop but until today I hadn't bother to look into it in any more detail. After watching Suspiria and being reminded of this by some of the incredible set designs and use of light and colour (and after brain rotting with @positivelyghastly about Terzo and this film) I decided to look into it a bit further and found some interesting stuff.

It was created by Mattias Frisk (who it turns out also designed the original mummy dust) and you can read the detailed write up of the creation process here but other than the the part that really stuck out to me was this:

The overall design is based upon the five wounds of Christ accompanied by nails, and for the middle panels the lance of Longinus in the hands of our mighty lord Satan, bringer of light and destroyer of worlds. I decided to go with the five elements as an overall theme for the window, one element represented in each window, from left to right, water, earth, aether, fire and air (each nameless ghoul has been given an element so I thought that it was a good idea).

The aesthetic of era iii is so thematic and interesting and visually appealing (much like the man himself) I figured others may find this interesting as well!

Synopsis: A visit to an art gala brings Lyra face-to-face with someone from her past—Mattias Slater. Grayson never liked him, and now he has every reason not to.

Lyra hadn’t thought of Mattias Slater in years.

At least, that was the lie she told herself as she adjusted the strap of her dress in the mirror, her lipstick just a shade too careful, her curls pinned with more intention than she wanted to admit. Grayson’s reflection stood behind her, tall and watchful, buttoning his cufflinks with the kind of elegance that made her heart skip.

He didn’t know. Not everything.

The invitation had arrived a week ago.

“Slater & Co. Visual Showcase: Curated Artists and Collaborative Perspectives.”

The name was familiar, heavy. Her stomach had dropped when she saw it, but she’d tucked the reaction away.

Grayson had caught the flicker of something in her face and asked, “Old friend?”

“Not exactly,” she’d said, breezy.

He let it go. But Grayson never really let anything go.

The gallery was housed in a renovated textile mill, with high ceilings and exposed brick, a contradiction of elegance and edge. Spotlights danced off modern sculptures and oil paintings that made you feel both seen and unsettled. Lyra scanned the crowd, feigning casual interest.

Grayson’s hand rested lightly at the small of her back. Protective. Possessive, maybe. She wasn’t sure which one comforted her more.

He leaned in. “You’ve been quiet.”

“I’m just taking it in.”

“You know this place feels like a front,” he murmured.

She smiled, but it didn’t reach her eyes. “Aren’t all galleries?”

“No. Some of them are honest about their pretension.”

He was trying to make her laugh. She appreciated the effort, even if her chest felt like it was wrapped in glass.

Then she saw him.

Mattias Slater stood across the room, surrounded by a halo of admirers. He hadn’t changed—still sharp cheekbones and messy confidence, still dressed like he’d stolen his wardrobe from a catalog and made it look better. He was laughing at something, head thrown back in a way that used to make her feel like the only person in the world.

Now it made her stomach twist.

Grayson followed her gaze, and she felt the shift in him like a ripple of static down her spine.

“That’s him, isn’t it?” he said softly.

She didn’t answer.

Grayson’s jaw clenched. “You dated Mattias Slater.”

“It wasn’t serious.”

“Bullshit.”

Lyra turned to him. “I didn’t lie to you.”

“No, you just didn’t tell me.” He took a step back. “Big difference.”

Mattias spotted them. Lyra didn’t miss the way his expression changed—like the wind had shifted in his favor. He crossed the room with deliberate grace.

“Lyra,” he said, voice low and warm like memory. “I wasn’t sure you’d come.”

She forced a smile. “Mattias.”

Grayson didn’t offer his hand. “Slater.”

Mattias’s eyes gleamed with something close to delight. “Hawthorne. I heard you were the serious type.”

“I’m serious about the people I care about.”

Lyra stepped slightly between them, tension coiled in her shoulders. “We were just leaving—”

Mattias held up a hand. “Actually, I was hoping you’d stay. There’s a piece I want you to see.” He looked at her. “It’s yours.”

Grayson’s voice was a blade. “What did you just say?”

Mattias smiled. “Not literally. But it was inspired by—well. You’d know.”

Lyra’s skin went cold. “Mattias—”

“You never saw it. I started it after Paris. Finished it after you left.”

The words hit her like ice water. Grayson looked between them, fury held just beneath his skin. “He painted you?”

“It’s not like that—”

“Oh, forgive me, it sounds exactly like that.”

“Grayson—”

Mattias raised a brow. “Still reactive, huh? I always wondered what kind of man you’d end up with, Lyra. Never guessed you’d go for one with a trust fund and a savior complex.”

Grayson stepped forward, dangerous now. “You want to say that again?”

“I think you heard me just fine.”

People were starting to watch.

Lyra gripped Grayson’s arm. “Stop.”

Mattias tilted his head. “Unless you’re worried I’m right.”

“I said stop.” Her voice cracked like a whip.

Both men froze.

“I didn’t come here for this,” she said. “I came to see art, not relive mistakes.”

Mattias’s gaze softened. “You weren’t a mistake.”

She shook her head. “But you were.”

Grayson didn’t say anything until they were outside.

The night air was cool, sharp with the distant scent of city traffic and spring rain. They stood in the alley beside the gallery, the weight of the moment pressing down on them.

“I didn’t know he’d be there,” Lyra said quietly.

“You didn’t think he might be? His name was on the goddamn invite.”

“I didn’t go to see him. I just—I wanted to see what he’d done. From a distance.”

Grayson’s laugh was bitter. “He didn’t keep you at a distance.”

“That wasn’t my fault.”

“I didn’t say it was. I’m just trying to understand how you ever looked at him and thought it made sense.”

She turned sharply. “What do you want me to say? That I was stupid? That I let someone charming and complicated pull me into something that never made sense and hurt me more than I’ll ever admit?”

Grayson said nothing.

“Fine,” she said, quieter. “I’ll say it. Mattias was beautiful and brilliant and selfish. He made me feel like I was art one moment and a smudge the next. And I let it go on for too long because I was convinced I could matter enough to make him stay.”

Grayson’s throat bobbed. “Why didn’t you tell me?”

“Because I hated who I was with him. I didn’t want to bring that part of me into us.”

Grayson stepped closer, voice low. “But he’s already here.”

She looked away.

“You’re not her anymore,” he said.

“I know.”

“I just hate the idea that he gets any part of you. Even a memory.”

Lyra’s eyes shimmered. “He doesn’t. Not really. That piece in there—it’s not about me. It’s about the version of me he wanted to remember.”

“And what about the version I know?” Grayson asked. “The woman who reads poetry aloud when she thinks I’m asleep. Who organizes books by mood. Who makes coffee like it’s a love language. Who runs when she overthinks. Who looks most beautiful in pictures when she doesn’t realize i’m taking them.”

“She’s yours,” Lyra whispered. “Only ever yours.”

Grayson was quiet for a long time.

Then, softly, “Don’t let ghosts rewrite the story.”

She stepped into his arms, and he let her. Held her. Let the fury cool into something heavier—something like sadness.

“I’m not afraid of your past, Lyra,” he said. “I’m just afraid of losing the version of you that trusts me with it.”

She pressed her face into his chest, the hum of his heart a steady rhythm. “I trust you,” she said. “Even when I’m scared. Even when it’s hard. You’re the only future I want.”

Grayson kissed the top of her head. “Then let’s go home.”

They walked away, hand in hand, the past still echoing—but quieter now.

And behind them, in the gallery of fractured glass and painted lies, Mattias Slater watched them go.

one of my favorite things about ghost eyes is all the little details

for example, the font changing between the regular narration font and mr edburt’s dialogue font in this flashback about august edward

or the specific border styles and other visual motifs depending on whos having A Moment

(note: the degree to which the distortion in mattias’s panels has increased was probably because of kiraba but i think it strengthens my point. im sure static is still a visual motif for mattias because its used in the dream/artistic chapters right before he and his siblings leave for grandma schneien’s house)

or whatever THIS THING is. the subtle changes in the setting/big details that are hard to miss in the moment. second was pointed out by @/a-misfortune i didnt see this at all until a few days ago……….

im really so completwly normal. you can tell mcp puts a lot of effort into these kinds of things and its a big part of why i look up to them so much as an artist eeeeee. it makes me so happy when people put little details like this into their work

a running tally of who has gotten the vest this season because i've noticed it's felt skewed lately!

some fun facts about the vest stats:

tage thompson has only received the vest one time this year

only 13 of 23 players on the team have received the vest (including only 4 of 8 regular dmen for the team)

the vest not having a video has happened 5 times this season, more times than all of the team has had the vest

beck malenstyn has gotten the vest twice, same amount as jj peterka, alex tuch, henri jokiharju and jack quinn (more than tage thompson)

dylan cozens, despite playing over 60 games for the team never got the vest (same with owen power)

upl has gotten the vest the most times, although not in nearly a calendar month now. meanwhile reimer has gotten the vest 2 times in the past two weeks

What is one thing about each of your OCs that you have as part of your headcanon for them that people don't know? Since you are just now introducing your OCs, this gives you the opportunity to say something about each of them. Have fun with it!

Ahh, hey Lis! I'm so excited to answer, I'll make sure to also send my asks next Sunday to people involved! :D I'll be introducing the OCs I mentioned in my fic (Courtney, Lucien and Nico) and also some new OCs that my next fic will be about! I don't want to reveal absolutely everything about my OCs here, so I'll just say some basic info and fun facts!

Lucien LaVeau : Lucien was born and raised in Canada, though his great grandparents (Dad's side) moved there from France! He has an older brother, I may introduce him as an OC one day too. He's a 2nd year Architecture student and is 21 years old, his birthday is January 28th! I hope you could tell from the fic that he is a rather private person and doesn't like other people up his business haha He's allergic to Soy, though he doesn't know it 100% yet. If you want to imagine him better: He's 178cm tall, blond (for haircut, think 90s Leonardo DiCaprio), a mix between lean/skinny and has sharp(er) facial features, though a rather 'button' nose! His eyes are a mix of green and blue-ish, his complexion is rather paler, but not completely pale!

Nicola de Scarzis : I referred to him just by that in the tags, but actually his full name is Charoen Nicola Mattia Janus de Scarzis (but he chose to go by Nico so that his name won't get mispronounced)! But that tag would've been simply too long lol He's half Thai, half Italian, but moved to Canada for college! He's a 1st year law student and currently 19 years old, but he will be turning 20 on the 11th of August! Nico isn't allergic to anything, but he gets carsick easily, though mostly his problem is that no matter how nauseous he gets, he can't throw up easily to feel better. Now, something for visualisation : He's 183cm tall, has dark brown curly hair and is more toned than Lucien! He also has sharp facial features, a 'greek' nose and an eyebrow slit from a scar! His eyes are light brown, and his complexion is tan!

Courtney Ambers : Courtney is from Nigeria, but her family moved to Canada when she was young. She's a 2nd year fashion student! She'll be turning 20 on July 2nd and she's Lucien's childhood friend, and probably the person he trusts most right now! She's not officially allergic to anything, but has a sensitive stomach in general! She also has a girlfriend, who is an F-1 driver :) I'll introduce her later though, to not spoil the fun! For visualization, Courtney is 175cm tall, she has long, wavy dark brown hair with some white and purple streaks in them! For her figure, think Aphrodite Rhithymnia sculpture (I don't mean to disrespect the goddess in any way, I just hope people can look up the sculpture and have a clear image in their head)! Her features are softer, and she has a 'flat' nose! I'm not sure how to describe her complexion, I'm not black myself and don't wanna be disrespectful! I think the best I could describe it as would be a deep brown, I also saw some palettes describing it as chocolate or cocoa!

Zhang Zheyuan (surname, given name) : Zheyuan was born in china, and then got sent by his parents to move to Canada as a teenager and stay with his aunt! He's currently 22 years old, his birthday is on February 12th! He works as a content creator and posts his own song and covers and vlogs on YouTube while studying business (3rd year)! He's allergic to strawberries and can't digest large amount of lactose (he's fine if it's in moderation). For visualisation, he's 175cm, and also between a lean and skinny, but unlike Lucien, he leans more towards the skinny. I'm not sure how to describe his nose shape, but it's between 'flat' and 'button'... Does that make sense...? His hair is blonde (dyed) and he attempts to go for this 'styled unstyled' look! His eyes are dark brown and he has a scar on his upper lip! His complexion is between light and tan - not as tan as Nico, but more tan than Lucien!

Dominic Roy : Dominic is fully Canadian haha He's 23 years old and his birthday is on December 8th! He works as a full-time streamer - he streams games, showcases products and occasionally also does covers of songs. He doesn't attend college - and never did. He's intolerant to gluten (not celiac disease!) and has trouble sleeping. For visualisation, he has thick, a little wavy, deep brown hair. For haircut think like... Zuko season 3, but thicker and... Wavier. His complexion is also more tan. He's 180cm and well, can't really describe him as skinny, but he's also not as toned as Nico. Think Sarawat from 2gether the series. His nose shape is similar to Nico's.

Mattias Douglas "Mattie" Archer // he/him // 23 (as of june of 1999) // aroace // a ghost hunter in new york city who grew up in a haunted house somewhere in maine, with a debilitating fear of bones and a passionate love of cartography.

5'9"(a little over 175cm), natural hair color is black but he bleaches it to within an inch of its miserable life; hair is also super long and like, wildly curly and very hard to handle. he's also got a beard. very freckley! eyes are a sort of greenish-brownish-hazel color; also has a bad habit of just. staring at you. very smiley. very expressive in general.

to describe his personality...he's about as rambunctious as rambunctious gets. never sitting still, always making noise. half the time he's just talking for the sake of talking. a hooligan since birth with a flair for the dramatic. he loves lying and stealing and making people mad. a bad reputation is all he wants, and boy does he have one.

he's got an uncanny talent for all things geometric, a deep passionate love for architecture, and a habit of just compulsively sketching out floorplans of buildings he walks into.

for reasons he refuses to tell anybody, the very thought of bones is often enough to make him quite nauseous. he also struggles with vivid visual, auditory, and sensory hallucinations and intense intrusive thoughts.

there's...a lot of things that have happened to him in his life. but he gets his happy ending.

11.09.24 Catherine Christer Hennix (1948-2023) memorial at Performance Space, NYC. For this memorial program, members of Hennix’s ensemble—Ellen Arkbro, Amir ElSaffar, Mattias Hållsten, Marcus Pal and Amedeo Maria Schwaller — presented Kamigaku in her absence, following the sonic ideals and performance practices that she specified - musicians should be allowed unrestricted space and time for them to be able to play (only) when they feel inspired and (only) for as long as they feel inspired.

Catherine Christer Hennix was a Swedish musician, poet, philosopher, mathematician and visual artist. As a musician, she worked with figures such as Pandit Pran Nath, La Monte Young, and Henry Flynt.

Scottish / Dutch, He / Him, 26 A burning fire     Hotheaded and loyal. Mattias’ whole world is his friends, and he would do almost anything for them. Ashamed by his past association with some of Caesar’s most well-known Guardsmen– including Abe Bruley–Mattias does all he can now to help people like himself and his friends by picking up any odd job he possibly can, though his hotheadedness and tendency to speak his mind before using it to think makes him both incredibly popular with the younger and poorer Campfolk and extremely unpopular with the older and richer Campfolk. He’s considered a problem by the Guardsmen and Caesar, and while most would find the targets on their head horrifying, Mattias instead flaunts this, using it to show that if one young man terrifies Caesar so much, just how strong is he? He doesn’t seem afraid of anything; nothing can get under his skin. He won’t let it.     Tim and Emmett are his inspirations, along with Trond, who he hopes to change the mind of. While his look towards the world is much more bitter than hopeful, feeling that the injustices done to people who’ve done nothing but try and survive are needlessly cruel, he hopes to change it.

A LITTLE TALK ABOUT FROZEN IN LORCANA

This first group of cards is based on "Frozen 1", but Elsa got some cards inspired by "Frozen 2".

ELSA: She has the titles Snow Queen, Spirit of Winter, Ice Surfer and Queen Regent. She is ranked as a Queen.

The first and third art are original visuals. The second and fourth are based on "Frozen 2" (outfit from "Show Yourself" and fight against Nokk). The last two are inspired by "Frozen 1" being the first one "Let it Go".

ANNA: Although Anna's look is inspired by "Frozen 1" she is ranked as a Queen, a small teaser for the set of cards from "Frozen 2".

HANS: Although in the movie he tried to decapitate Elsa using a sword, in his card the slashing weapon looks like it was switched to a dagger due to lack of space.

I admit I'm surprised that there aren't any Trolls cards and especially Oaken who is a very recurrent character. There is only one representation of music like "Let it Go" is also curious, I expected the inclusion of "Love Is an Open Door" (but then we would have 3 Hans cards, and a duet card which is something that the card game only includes ultimately as "A Whole New World").

WHAT CARDS WILL BE PRESENT IN THE FUTURE UPDATE?

Oaken will come and maybe the Trolls will be remembered, but in the latter case it will be more based on his participation in F2 than F1.

Mattias, Bruno and Nokk will definitely come. Gale and Earth Giants have my doubts, but I would bet they come.

Honeymaren and Ryder will come, but Yelana I wouldn't be surprised with her out. Still about Honeymaren, I bet her card will come with a "Brave Warrior" title, I wanted "Wife of the Snow Queen", but that title can be saved for the card based on "Frozen 3".

Runeard, Iduna and Agnarr have a high chance of appearing.

Among the songs, in the first group of cards we only had one song represented, but will we have more this time? The candidates: All is Found, Some Things Never Change, Into the Unknown. When I Am Older, Lost in the Woods, Show Yourself and The Next Right Thing. I think they'll pick just one Elsa solo, Kristoff's for sure coming, I hope Some Things Never Change for Anna, and Olaf will have the one he sings.

On the website there are descriptions of the characters, and in the description of Elsa they mention a certain curiosity. The original rumored "Frozen 1" plot had Elsa turned villainous after being rejected at the altar by a man (Elsa suffered a 180-degree turn in her character), but I've never heard information about that man beyond that, until now. In this website description, one of Elsa's curiosities is the name of this man: Kai. I don't know if this is 100% reliable, but there it is.

🦊;; Mattia generally wears long sleeves and gloves, in a mix of casual, to business-formal on his day to day styles, depending on what he's doing that day.

His casual clothes usually exist as a hoody that he keeps the hood pulled up on, a leather jacket and a pair of jeans and work boots. He'll be wearing a pair of leather or climbing gloves depending on what he's doing. The gloves are either to hide his finger prints or the scarring on his left hand and cover that up as much as he can. (The are the clothes he'll wear around his home, or if he's doing his own dirty work within Gotham and doesn't want to draw attention to himself.)

His business formal clothes are what he wears when he's in the office, or a planned meeting for his less than legal job as head of the Romano crime family. This is usually a suit, either a dark blue, black or grey in colour, with a tie to match, or if he's familiar enough with the person, he'll forgo the tie entirely. He wears leather gloves as well and a decent pair of dress shoes. The gloves serve the purpose to hide his scarring, but also to hide the activation of his powers if he needs them, since the tips of his fingers illuminate. (this is what you're far more likely to catch him wearing, he likes to dress to impress after all.)
