Dearest People of the Page. This is Christopher. For as long as I can remember the World Trade Center of New Orleans has anchored the foot of Canal Street. Even in my childhood it had a distinctly retro vibe, with its cross-shaped footprint and rounded observatory deck. In more recent years, it struggled to retain occupants and took on a ghostly atmosphere, a shame given its central location. Very recently the Four Seasons company renovated its interior from top to bottom, installing a new luxury hotel and high end condos on the upper floors. As part of this renovation they installed an exhibit called Vue Orleans. Visitors are greeted with a colorful, multimedia exhibit about the history of the city before express elevators whisk them high above the city to an observatory deck offering gorgeous views. Inside the first floor exhibit the novel INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE is featured as one of two novels that definitively captures the New Orleans experience. (The other is the beloved classic "A Confederacy of Dunces" by John Kennedy Toole.) I know that Anne would be deeply thrilled by this honor and my profound gratitude goes to the organizers of the exhibit. Love, Christopher Rice

Disney's The Haunted Mansion | Ships on Fire at Night Changing Portrait (2003 Film Version)

Ships Aflame (or Ships on Fire at night), with Xanthus Russell Smith's depiction of C.S.S. Manassas & U.S.S. Hartford in New Orleans Harbor, a painting that was changed from Jean-François Hue's portrait of "View of Brest Harbor" (in French: "Vue de la rade de Brest, prise au bas de la batterie du château"), appears in the 2003 film version of Disney's The Haunted Mansion. That painting looks different than the "Flying Dutchman" painting from the ride.

CEMETERY TOURS/VISITS

Burying the dead in a place built below sea level was a problem that faced the earliest residents of the French settlement that became New Orleans. The solution agreed upon, to entomb the departed in elaborate marble chambers above ground, created one of the city’s most lingering attractions: cemeteries that are both historic and hauntingly beautiful. Wander the purported resting places of voodoo queen Marie Laveau, musician Al Hirt and Civil War general P.G.T. Beauregard, all residents of what is known in New Orleans as the Cities of the Dead. Osterurlaub

Mit Mama und Papa fuhren wir am 19. nach

Frankreich.

In Reims machten wir nen Halt. Frühstück im 🚐,🚐. 👨‍👩‍👦‍👦👫👩‍🦳🧓zur Innenstadt . Rathaus wo wie standen, Park,Kathedrale, Place Royal und andere, mega Wasserbrunnen Fontaine Subé und zum Spielplatz rutschen und co.⛽

Als Mathis und Christoph schliefen , fuhren wir weiter nach Orleans ,auf einen Stellplatz. Die Grossen beschäftigten sich mit ihnen alse nach ner Stunde wach waren. Mit unseren 🚲und einem Anhänger gings in die Innenstadt. An der Loire gefahren, Park und Spielplatz,fuhren mit dem Sighting train rum(Papa lud uns ein), zum Stellplatz ne Bolo, kochte ich für uns alle. 😴

20.04, Ostern, ich hatte zu Hause noch mit Mama Osterzopf und Karottenkuchen gebacken, was wir uns heute schmecken liessen, gemütlich zu Ostern.

Dann gings in den 🚐🚐 bis nach Sorigny:Family Park. Wie auf ner Kirmes irgendwie,Achterbahnen,Zirkus, Riesenrad, Gaukards, Flieger, fliegende Schauckeln , Trampolin, Autoscotter, verrückte Spiele, Wasserspiele, Springgiraffe, Karussell,Mathis fuhr mit den Minibooten, Schweinezug mit Mathis und Christoph gefahren,auf den Rutschen hatten Finn und Pia ne Menge Spass, Ziegen,jeder hatte für sich Spass und ich definitiv nicht auf den Rutschen.

21.04. 🚲🚲🚲🚲🚲🚲 mit einem Anhänger zur Innenstadt. Rathaus.

🚐🚐, Guizengeard, Safaripark mit Hirschen, Wildschweinen,Enten,Rehe. Wir fuhren da lang und Mathis war das so gar nicht geheuer, dasse uns zu nah kamen und weinte. Oh Mann, ich fand das so toll.

🚐🚐,Begles zum Park am See Les Guetteurs - Refuge Periurbain.👣👨‍👩‍👦‍👦👫👩‍🦳🧓im Park, zum Spielplatz.Wir schlafen in einer Eule, tolles Erlebnis.

22.04, 👣👨‍👩‍👦‍👦👫,👩‍🦳🧓,zum🏝.

🚐🚐,🛒 zum Lidl , 🚐🚐 nach Bordeaux .👣👨‍👩‍👦‍👦👫👩‍🦳🧓 in ein Stadtwäldchen.Porte Dijeaux, Stellplatz, ziemlich komische Brücke Pont Jacques Chaban-Delmas. An der Garonne spazieren, dem Fluss.

23.04, 🚐🚐,Bayonne. 👣👨‍👩‍👦‍👦👫👩‍🦳🧓zur Innenstadt.

24.04,🚐🚐, Biarittz ,👣👨‍👩‍👦‍👦👫👩‍🦳🧓 Leuchtturm, Point de vue de l'Impératrice,Villa Roche Ronde, Miramar🏝, 👣Biarittz 🏝,Rocher de la Vierge,🏝alter Hafen, Hafen, Innenstadt , wir waren vegan essen.

25.04. Die 👶👶, dachten schlafen muss nicht sein und waren schon seit 5 wach. Um halb sieben ging ich mit ihnen raus, 🚶‍♀️👶👶 zu nem Spielplatz der ne halbe Stunde entfernt war.

Nach Frühstück ,👣👨‍👩‍👦‍👦👫👩‍🦳🧓,zur Grotte am 🏝.Mathis lief einfach mal da rein und Finn hinterher 😂. Zu lustig. 🏝der Liebe, Liebestower,Strandpromenade , am Abend gingen wir nochmals lecker vegan essen.

Am Nachmittag fuhren wir dann schon wieder Richtung nach Hause, so schnell ist eine Woche Urlaub vorbei. ⛽

🚐🚐Lyon Raststätte um halb 2 , austanken und nochmals voll⛽, von da an fuhren wir abwechselnd gerade aus nach Haus

26.04,Um 8:00 in Rittersdorf, ☕kochen, etwas 👣vertreten mit unseren ☕bechern, bei der Burg. Während wir ☕kochten machten das meine Eltern, danach wir, die Kinder schliefen wie Engel.👣in die Innenstadt und fuhren um 9:30 weiter. Doch kaum war der Motor an, waren die Kids auch wach.

In Dortmund Halt,Windeln wechseln,👣👨‍👩‍👦‍👦👫👩‍🦳🧓und assen ne Pommes zum Frühstück im Extra Blatt.

Von da aus 6 Stunden schnurstracks nach Hause denn Montag war schon wieder Schule, leider. Mama und Papa fuhren mit zu uns. Das war sehr schön.

Zu Hause bestellten wir noch Pizza, ausgiebig duschen, im 🚐 war das immer ne schnelle Sache, weil wir nie nen Platz fanden mit 🚿.

27.04. Der Alltag ist eingekehrt, die Schule begonnen. Papa hatte die Kids zur Schule gefahren, war zu Rewe 🛒, wir sollten ausschlafen. Naja, Thorge musste auch um 9 wieder beim Kunden sein.

Unsere Wäsche, Mamas Wäsche, an die Strandpromenade mit den Jungs und deren Rutschautos, einer Pia die am Telefon mit Ludwig stritt, Frühstücken, die Grossen abholen und früh schlafen gehn. Wir waren alle irgendwie durch.

28.04.Meine Eltern und ich radelten zum Wochenmarkt nach Flensburg. Papa bestand drauf mit dem Anhänger von Mathis und Christoph zu fahren.

Schlendern über den Markt zu Markus nen ☕trinken und zurück geradelt. Frühstück, Mittagsschlaf, Wäsche, mit den Jungs spielen, die Grossen abholen, mit Mama 👩‍🍳, Tv und 😴.

JOURNAL DE CREATION N°2// SUITE  JUILLET – AOUT 2023  -

A PROPOS DES REPETITIONS DU VENDREDI 1 AU JEUDI 7 SEPTEMBRE 2023

Rassembler un auteur, une écriture et des acteurs, des acteurs et des artistes de l’audio visuel (vidéaste , ingénieur du son ), des peintres … telle sera l’actualité de notre travail au cours de cette première semaine de septembre 2023 .

En juillet et août, nous avons travaillé selon des process individualisés, prioritairement dédiés à l’écriture lorsqu’elle est accueillie dans une pratique d’acteur au moment où il en découvre (déchiffre ?) l’oralité et la gestuelle pour élaborer au fur et à mesure de sa progression une sorte de charte esthétique, un code de vie théâtrale .

Les 3 textes - déjà représentés sur les scènes de grands théâtres internationaux, sont dès leur premi��re lecture, saisissants – chacun des trois l’étant de façon singulière  .

La délivrance en rafale d’une parole jusqu’alors inexprimée, par une femme de 70 ans n’a rien du récit pathétique d’une tranche de vie . L’effet de souffle ravage les aveux convenus . Les mots volent, se heurtent  et se cabossent, rebondissant en cascades, s’étourdissant dans leur chute  lachés  comme des bolides sur l’anneau d’un circuit où ils ne finiront jamais de tourner . PAS MOI   – çà n’est pas une autre, c’est elle qui ne le sait plus, si elle l’a déjà sû autrefois .

Comme une image, cette fleur qui enroulerait ses « bras interminables autour de sa tige centrale, c’est BERCEUSE . Un récit ? ? un poème saturnien ?  un chapelet de prières ? un disque rayé ? A ce point  où l’absence est sœur du vide, il ne reste plus qu’à se raconter des histoires à dormir debout, des histoires qui anticiperaient leur propre fin pour postuler à l’éternel recommencement .

LE DEPEUPLEUR – troisième texte de nos soirées BECKETT qui de lui-même se disait être ” un expert en  racontage ”. On peut le croire à la première lecture de son DEPEUPLEUR qui suppose et expose dans un “ cylindre surbaissé ” la curieuse existence vécue par 200 corps, arrivés là par hasard, jusqu’à plus amples informations . 

Où s’engage t’on en suivant ce récit ? Rassurez vous, l’expert en racontages est un maitre qui, lorsqu’il s’agit de donner corps à des vues de l’esprit, fait des miracles . En révélant ses visions  il nous promène dans sa fiction tout en nous livrant, fibre par fibre, la nature des racines qu’elle plonge dans notre stock mémoriel qu’il soit littéraire :  LA DIVINE COMEDIE de Dante  ou historique : SI C’EST UN HOMME de Primo LEVI  . On peut avoir l’impression d’une visite guidée au début du récit. Et, au fur et à mesure de son développement, s’opère une sorte de retournement – on ne visite rien d’autre que soi même,  projeté dans une histoire déjà écrite,  une histoire entrain de s’écrire … C’est fini ? çà va finir ? ça va recommencer ? BECKETT tourne et retourne ces questions .Écrivain il “pousse ” ses vues de l’esprit à opérer des jonctions  avec  des situations identifiables . Il arrive que l’outre monde de sa fiction s’agrège au monde tel qu’il va . L’un dans le miroir de l’autre, nous imaginons leurs reflets mêlés, la superposition de leurs deux images . Mais se sont les mots qui nous sonnent quand les images qu’ils  délivrent en nous,  réveillent nos sensibilités . .

En septembre , les protocoles individuels seront abandonnés

Les acteurs vont ouvrir leur travail à un vidéaste et un ingénieur du son . Il me revient de saisir les conditions de leur rencontre artistique, de créer les conditions de leur amalgame (de l’arabe amal’ al’game/œuvre d’union ), d’envisager le bénéfice esthétique de leur collaboration .

Qu’avez-vous fait pour la Fête de la Musique ? Nous, 40 rue de la Convention, à 2 pas de chez nous, s’est construit récemment un charmant hôtel, « La Quinzerie », qui a la particularité d’avoir un bar (ouvert à tous), une terrasse en jardin très agréable (en levant les yeux, l’hiver, quand les feuilles des arbres sont tombées, on aperçoit la nôtre) et même un petit roof top duquel on a une super vue sur Beaugrenelle, le « Manhattan du XVe », et la Tour Eiffel.

Depuis peu, au bar, ils proposent tous les mercredis, à partir de 18h30, des mini-concerts de Jazz.

Nous y étions allés déjà 2 ou 3 fois pour prendre un verre mais à l’époque il n’y avait pas encore de concerts.

Mercredi dernier donc, jour de la Fête de la Musique, c’était une occasion idéale pour découvrir cette nouvelle animation.

Très vite les tables se sont remplies, le Jazz proposé était très classique, dans le style New Orleans, les clients, principalement des habitants du quartier (genre jeunes cadres avec enfants mais aussi quelques couples plus âgés et certains de nos âges), très sympathiques et l’ambiance, bon-enfant.

Le rapport qualité/prix entre les plateaux fromages, charcuterie ou mixte, les cocktails et les boissons, est tout à fait correct. Nous reviendrons…

New Orleans is a great place to travel alone

skip Bourbon St. It's smelly, drinks are over priced, all the tourists are 57 and from Idaho

Do check out Frenchman St. It's fun, live music, good late night food, you can dance all night. And St. Claude has bars with dancing, djs, karaoke, drag shows, all the local weird kids go there

Go to French Quarter during the day. Get a daiquiri and walk around. Don't play for an over priced tour. And don't get a reading from the charlatans in Jackson Square. Walk down Royal St. and check out the art galleries. Bring singles to tip street performers. They have some amazing musicans

Take a the streetcar to city park and see the 800 year old trees, the art museum, the botanic garden (my faaaavorite place in that neighborhood) and get beignets. And take a stroll down Esplande Ave. My favorite coffee shop Fairgrinds is on it as well as some great restaurants. Look into renting a bike for the day you can take the greenway from.the hotels downtown to City Park it's a nice safe ride and you can see the homes in Mid-City.

It's not a trip to New Orleans without a ride down the St. Charles Streetcar. It'll be crazy crowded in June so go early in the morning. You can look out the window and see beautiful mansion. Take it up to either Oak St. or Maple St. and have lunch or wine at one of the many restaurants. Or get off at Audubon Park and look for turtles and relax.

Official Bar Recs: The Carousel Bar (it's expensive but so cute and really spins), Cafe Lafitte In Exile (the oldest gay bar in America), Kajuns (the greatest karoke bar), 12 Mile Limit (fun dance parties in a crappy dive bar), Okay Bar (dancing, drinking, locals), Blue Nile (live shows cost $10-$20 but upstairs is free and sometimes they have bands or DJs and a balcony you can look at), Th Dragons Den (you can smoke weed in the courtyard and dance upstairs), The Holy Ground (colorful bartenders, might get stabbed, might run into me), Allways Lounge (burlesque, drag shows, swing dancing on Sundays, only place to get a good cosmo on St. Claude), Piscobar (SOOOO CUTE! on a rooftop, food is edible), Roost Bar (I just like it), Nospi Hotel (rooftop bar, pool, Black owned, great views), Saturn Bar (the little punk bar that could), Bank St. Bar (another punk bar), The Swamp Bar (because you're going to go Bourbon anyways and this is the least awful)

Best in tourist traps: The quarter in general, Cafe Beignet (Cafe Du Monde is crap), The Ogden Museum, The World War II Museum, The Historic New Orleans Collection, The Whitney Plantation, Swamp Tours, Longue Vue House tour, Voodoo Authentica, Bottom of the Tea Cup Room, Audubon Aquarium
