wangi’s experience with reading the discworld novels (this is not advice, you don’t have to take it, You Have Free Will):

so, when i decided i would buy the discworld series, it was around 2019, and i didn’t have a shit ton of money to pay the international fee and delivery of all the 41 novels, so i did what any other nerd with a tight budget would do: consult reddit on the matter.

and i found this handy little thing, a reading list by themes/characters.

while i did buy all the city watch novels, i also followed the advice of a very good friend of mine and also bought Mort, which is an early book and also very good at laying the foundation so you can properly understand The City Watch arc, but if you don’t feel like it, Terry’s footnotes provide enough context so you can go along and get what’s all about.

that being said, Death is an amazing arc too, Witches? incredible. you will never hear me say anything bad about Discworld.

if you are someone who likes/needs audiobooks, you can find all of the Discworld novels narrated in Archive.org, and while it’s not narrated by the wonderful Nigel Planer, nor Stephen Briggs, it kinda works.

with that being said, i encourage you to read because Discworld actually changed my life for good, and it can change yours too.

Your Lover to your Nightmare

The weight that Jiang Cheng felt on his shoulders was almost unbearable but who else could take it from him? What about the ache in his chest? He didn’t dare close his eyes; he knew that he would cry and there was no way in hell he was going to cry in front of the stylists and people that worked for the tv network. One drop and they’d be asking him a million questions. Besides, he wouldn't be surprised if there were several questions about Wei Wuxian. 

It was like Wei Wuxian had taken a whip and cracked his chest open all with one fucking photo. The post was going viral and Jiang Cheng had seen it when one of the other stylists began talking about how Wei Wuxian had updated his instagram with a photo of his new tattoo of a sun on fire on his chest. Which of course hadn’t been the issue, there were two reasons the post  was currently on fire: the first being the angle which was obviously taken by someone that was in Wei Wuxian’s lap and the second was the hand on the other side of his chest. Jiang Cheng personally knew the owner of that hand due to a shading tattoo that appeared to look like cracks in the skin. 

Just a friend. That’d been what Wei Wuxian had told him. Right, he should have known but he was so used to Wei Wuxian fussing about his jealousy that he’d ultimately blamed himself.

Come on over, Come on over baa-bbby . His phone sung and he let out a deep sigh. It was Nie Huaisang and he couldn’t not answer the phone. His best friend had to be truly upset and worried for him. “One sec.” He politely asked the makeup artist to give him a second. His assistant happily ushered them out when Jiang Cheng went to answer the phone. 

“A-Sang - “ 

“That asshole. He’s dead to me now. How could he do this to you Jiang Cheng?! I told him what would happen if he hurt you!” Nie Huaisang cursed Wei Wuxian. Trust his best friend to get the knives out. 

“He’s not worth it and it’s not like I -” Jiang Cheng tried to calm him. 

“No. Absolutely not ChengCheng, he doesn’t get a pass on this and this is the whole damn reason you didn’t agree to post couples pictures. It’s because he does shit like this when he’s jealous. It’s not acceptable! And you know what damn corpse boy for agreeing. And why am I the only one angry here? You should be angry! You’ve done everything to reassure him that you’re not with Lan Wangji and the whole time he’s cheating on you with that corpse!” 

“A-Sang, he’s not jealous and stop calling him that. I am angry but I’m just exhausted and hurt. This is his way of telling me he’s done without having to actually break up with me.” Jiang Cheng said his peace even though it hurt. Besides it wasn’t Wen Ning’s fault he was in love with Wei Wuxian. Jiang Cheng wasn’t an idiot. He could see the heart eyes even if Wei Wuxian saw it as idol admiration. Well until now. He also hadn’t missed the naked thigh that’d been in the lower corner. 

They’d been struggling for a long time because of scheduling and Jiang Cheng being protective of his public life while Wei Wuxian didn’t care about the world seeing the inside of their relationship. Wei Wuxian was ready to be open but there wasn’t trust. It was the little things that he did that made Jiang Cheng keep him at arm's length. He knew that once he gave Wei Wuxian an inch the man would go halfway across the damned country. So he wouldn’t budge. Evidently Wen Ning was willing.

“He’s a bastard and I am sorry.’ Nie Huaisang finally deflated a bit so that he could focus on comforting his friend. “Want to come over instead of going to dinner with the cast? I’ve got very berry bunny ice cream.’ His tone changed immediately. 

“I will let you know, A-Sang.’ Jiang Cheng found it in himself to smile. Before he could say his goodbye there was a knock on the door. Jiang Cheng jumped, twisting in his seat when the door opened.

“Jiang Cheng? Are you alright? They are ready for us.” Lan Wangji asked as he poked his head inside. A comforting warm smile on his face. 

“I..I..I am. I’m coming.” Jiang Cheng stumbled to get out. That smile seemed to distract his mind enough that the ache wasn’t so bad. Now he understood how Nie Huaisang's obsession with Mo Xuanyu's smile and claiming it brightens his soul to see it. “Sorry.” 

“There’s nothing to apologize for. I’ll be waiting for you.” Lan Wangji nodded before ducking back out. 

“Right.’ Jiang Cheng stuttered before returning to his call. “I will let you know about dinner.’ Before his friend could launch into an interrogation about how he’d sputtered. Jiang Cheng put his phone on airplane mode and stuffed it in the pocket. He gave himself a look over. The silvery iridescent violet silk button down looked good with his black trousers that fit him well. He’d recently cut his hair with an undercut for the movie he’d filmed with Lan Wangji.The artist had completed her look so he was ready. He let out a soft sigh then headed out. 

“That color looks good on you.” Lan Wangji complimented him the moment he stepped out and Jiang Cheng couldn’t help but flush. Lan Wangji stood up straight 

“Thanks. You clean up well yourself.” Jiang Cheng cleared his throat as he moved to walk along with him. 

“You have nothing to clean up, Jiang Cheng.” Lan Wangji murmured and Jiang Cheng felt didn’t know what to say to that so he just stayed quiet. His heart however skipped a beat. He knew from their time together working on Cut & Run , that Lan Wangji wasn’t like his character. Lan Wangji saw him as a friend and a colleague. Nothing more. They were both damn good actors. 

Jiang Cheng took a deep breath and pushed all other thoughts aside for now.  And to be fair, that truly worked until after the break and an assistant brought the interviewer new cards. It was the sideways glance that they failed to hide that let him know it was going to talk about Wei Wuxian. He always got at least one since Wei Wuxian sniff kissed him during that tiktok live their company made them do while filming the web series Where You Hurt the Most  two years ago. 

“This question is for Jiang Cheng since we are on a personal topic.” The interviewer beamed and Jiang Cheng felt that invisible weight settle once again on his chest. “How is yours and Wei Wuxian’s relationship going with you being here in the states and him in Shanghai?” 

Jiang Cheng was desperate to be done with this interview. He was about to open his mouth when he felt Lan Wangji’s hand slip into his own. He looked up to see Lan Wangji smiling but his gaze told him that his friend was going to help. Jiang Cheng was still in a state of shock that he just nodded to him. He had no idea what was going to happen but it was better than the hell of answering those questions with that picture floating around.

“It’s alright, I’ve got this one. It’s gone on long enough.”  Lan Wangji responded, refocusing on the interviewer that was practically vibrating in her leather chair. 

“What I think you meant to ask is how are we doing, Rachel? Because you’re wanting to know about his relationship with his boyfriend? Jiang Cheng and I are doing just fine. He and I have healthy boundaries when coming to the workload versus our personal time. As for his friendship with Wei Wuxian is solid and I am sure you can look on his instagram to see him and his boyfriend are enjoying the quiet life between jobs.” 

“Exactly and right now we are enjoying ours.” Jiang Cheng couldn’t believe how assured those words sounded as they spilled from his lips but he was glad that he’d gone to acting school. However his poor heart was threatening to pound right out of his chest as Lan Wangji lifted their hands and kissed the back of his palm. He swallowed hard and kept the smile on his face as their interviewer decided on a new line of questions. Jiang Cheng glanced over at Lan Wangji and hoped that the man didn’t expect to get away with this. They were going to talk. Of all the things he thought Lan Wangji would say to get him out of the desperate situation this hadn’t been this.

I think your comparisons of Ximang to Hualian/Wangxian are so interesting. When I first started reading 2ha, I felt like it was a much grimmer take svss (mostly bc I didn’t realize how big of a genre uh…”shizun-fucking” was at the time) so much that I felt like svsss and 2ha were two works in conversation with each other. Each felt like a parody of the other. Yuwu also reminded of Wangxian. Gu Mang and Wei Wuxian have many similarities. Their mischievous and laid back natures, their impressive genius, their lower-class status (although wwx doesn’t face discrimination on the scale that Gu Mang does), and obviously their eventual fall from grace. Mo Xi actually feels like a mixture of Lan Wangi and Jiang Cheng to me. He posses that cold countenance but also that terrible temper. His regret that he didn’t stay by Gu Mang’s when he was suffering but also his intense hatred at his betrayal. All this is to say, at times meatbun’s novels feel much more realistic and tragic compared to mxtx’s but they often share similar themes and it’s interesting how their two of the most popular danmei authors (at least in the western fandom). I never thought comparing Ximang to Hualian though, and it’s very interesting. Compared to Mo Xi and Lan Wangi, Hua Cheng is less concerned with certain societal and moral viewpoints, so he’s able to devote himself to Xie Lian entirely not matter what path Xie Lian walks. Obviously, the fact that they didn’t support the one they love in their time of need is something that Mo Xi and Lan Wangi both regret later on…but I think that Mo Xi and Lan Wangi’s upper class status compared to Hua Cheng’s lower class status plays a role in how they react to their beloved, for lack of a better term, going ape-shit.

Hi! :) Thank you for sharing you thoughts, and you certainly formed some interesting connections between novels and characters that I never thought of. It never occurred to me to compare 2ha with svsss because of their entirely different tones, like the former is all about shoving the depth and magnitude of the sufferings in your face while the latter is about hiding the tears and blood with irreverent humour.

As for Mo Xi, I keep thinking about him in comparison with Chu Wanning - not least because they both have a temper, and that's because they don't know how to express their emotions so every emotion comes out in the form of anger. But Chu Wanning has led a much more sheltered life than Mo Xi because of his extraordinary talent, which secured for him an untouchable position in the cultivation sect so he can just focus on his geeky inventions. Whereas Mo Xi had to fight through his family's downfall, start from the bottom, and survive the cut-throat palace intrigues etc.

The comparison between Ximang and Hualian that anon mentioned refers to this post I wrote - and I agree that with the romance side of things, meatbun's couples feel more realistic and tragic compared to mxtx’s. I think mxtx's strength is in exploring broader moral questions and philosophical themes, and she could do it in a natural, nuanced, and engaging way. Meatbun's attempts in this regard feels somewhat forced and meagre in comparison.

A) The first one is about WangXian having an arranged marriage and Wei Ying in the beginning tries to get along with Lan Zhan but then when he notices that he's not very responsive he ends up being kind of like cold to him but in the end they do realize that they love each other also Wei Ying is mostly a stay at home husband and there are no original characters in this one. I'm pretty sure it has multiple chapters but I may be wrong.

B) The second one is a case fic one where WangXian go to this town where apparently the Yiling laozu is terrorizing but it turns out to be Jin Zixuns son who he himself has possessed and they solve it. Pairing: Lan Sizhui x reader

Warnings: starts with a bit of angst, but fluffier near the end

You stared ahead of you, eyes darting around before landing on Sizhui as he practiced his music skills. His hair was flowing down his back, slightly tied back with a second ribbon so it wouldn’t come in front of his face. His fingers pulled at the strings of the guqin, creating a beautiful melody that echoed through the place. You sat down in the grass, leaning against a tree before closing your eyes as you continued to listen to the music. When it stopped, you opened your eyes and noticed Sizhui in front of you, staring down.

“Why are you sitting here for, (y/n)?” “Just listening.” You answered as he sat next to you. You laid your head on his shoulder with a sigh.

“You are getting better.” You complimented and he laughed sweetly, thanking you. You looked at him as you felt your heart beating faster. For the last 2 years, you had a major crush on him. You grew up together in the burial mountain under Wen Ning, Wen Qing and Wei Wuxian with Sizhui by your side as the only 2 children. When Wei Wuxian died, Lan Wangji took both of you into the Lan clan and acted as a brother/father figure to both of you. You were a year younger than Sizhui, so you had a tendency to actually call Wangji dad, something that only you did and Wangi was okay with for some reason. And then you basically grew up here beside Sizhui, only growing closer and closer in your friendship with the years. 

“When are you going to practice the dizi (Chinese flute like Wei Wuxian’s) again?” He asked and you looked away, shrugging carelessly. “Are you still ashamed?” He asked and you looked at him with a shy smile. Just then, Wangji walked in and you smiled, jumping up and running to Wangji before stopping right in front of him.

“Are we doing something, dad?! Are we going on a hunt or-” You stopped rambling as he looked at you, looking down and biting your bottom lip.

“Sorry...” You mumbled and he chuckled, patting your head softly before looking at Sizhui.

“Both of you have a mission with the others.” He said and you smiled brightly, looking back at Sizhui with a smile. He smiled back before bowing to Wangji. While they talked, you had run off to greet your group and wrapped your arm around Jingyi’s neck, pulling him down to your height. He let out a yelp before glaring at you.

“Hey!” You smiled before looking at the other 2. “Hey, Zizhen, hey, Jin Ling!” You greeted and Zizhen smiled as Jin Ling just nodded.

“Why is she here?” “Cause I’m a good fighter and have the brains in this group.” You said, sticking out your tongue at him only for him to do the same back at you. You let go off Jingyi, who stood back up to his normal height and you crossed your arms.

“What are we doing..?” You asked and Jingyi sighed. “Some spirits are causing a ruckus in a town.” He explained and you nodded at it before shrugging. “It’ll be a short adventure.” You whined and they all chuckled at your response. Sizhui walked to you a few minutes later and you all left, walking to the town. The way there was long, you had walked for a full day before arriving, and you were all tired yet still had to start with the mission. 

“Let’s rest first before starting. It’s night anyway.” Sizhui said and everyone agreed as a room was rented. Yes, you all slept in the same room. You quickly jumped on the bed and basically claiming it for yourself. They didn’t really care that much as you were the only girl and they refused to let you sleep on the ground, but you did it every single time anyway. Sizhui sat next to you and you smiled as you laid down on the pillow while Sizhui laid next to your bed, just like he always did.

The next day you had all separated from each other, each of you searching for information (some better than others Jingyi). After around 6 hours later, you were finally searching around for the actual monster. 

“I’ll check over there.” You said as you walked to the side of the cave that you had just entered and entering a second pathway of the cave. After awhile, you couldn’t see anything and took your dizi, playing a few notes before some light appeared in front of you, making your eyes widen. In front of you stood at least 6 ghouls, all now staring at you with hungry eyes. You took a step back before going into a full sprint only to fall when a seventh one grabbed your leg, taking a chunk out of your leg. Letting out a bloodcurdling scream as it did, you sliced at the ghoul with your sword and hitting it straight in it’s neck and making it let go of you. You scrambled out your feet, running out before almost bumping into Sizhui.

“(Y/n)?” “It’s ghouls!” You exclaimed as you almost tripped over your own feet. Just as you said that, loud screams filled the room followed by the ghouls running in. You heard someone curse loudly (most likely Jingyi or Jin Ling) as you all started running. Halfway, the ghouls had catched up with you and were clawing at your skin. Sizhui was already dragging you because of your leg, but when a ghoul clawed at his arm, he let go of you and you fell. The ghoul that was focused on him was now staring at you and lunged, which you missed by rolling to the side and pushing yourself up. You didn’t feel any of the clawing or bites as pure adrenaline rushed through your veins. Once you all exited the cave, the ghouls hissed at the sunlight that hit them, as you turned around. You took your dizi, Sizhui took his guqin and the other 3 took their swords. Both you and Sizhui started to play as the others attacked. When the ghouls were gone, you stopped playing and sat down on the ground as the pain finally kicked in. You pulled your leg up and inspected the now several bite and claw marks on them before sighing in pain. You could hear some shuffling before spotting Sizhui, who was crouched in front of you with a frown on his face.

“Are you alright? Nevermind, stupid question.” He mumbled as he opened his bag, pulling out bandages and an ointment before he applied it to the wounds. You hissed every time he touched the wounds, trying to pull back only for Sizhui to tighten his grip on your leg.

“Sit still or the poison might kick in.” He mumbled and you hissed again before biting your lip and leaning back as you hands gripped your robes. 

“It hurts...” You whined and Sizhui looked up, worry in his eyes.

“Can you move your legs?” He asked and you tried to move them, but unfortunately they barely did. You groaned, trying again before shaking your head. He frowned, pressing certain spots and watching your reaction. You winced every time, and he nodded.

“At least they’re not paralyzed.” He said as he put everything away again. He then turned around and looked at you.

“Get on.” He said and you blushed before pushing yourself forward a bit before wrapping your arms around his shoulders. His hands took hold of your legs before he stood up and pushed you up once. 

“Let’s get back to the inn.” He called to the rest, watching the rest get up and follow suit. On the way back, you had started to slowly lose consciousness until you finally felt your head fall down on his shoulder. 

Lan Sizhui stayed by your side back in the inn while the others went out with some elders to clear the mission. He had placed a damp towel on your forehead, hoping for your fever to go down. You woke up a few minutes later, but you weren’t yourself. Rather, you were quite delirious as you tried to get out of the bed. He eventually got you to lay down as he laid beside you. You had wrapped yourself around him, arms tightly around his waist as you mumbled nonsense.

“I can’t help it...” You whined loudly and then you paused, which made him look at you. You were looking at him, waiting for some reaction.

“Can’t help what?” He dared to ask and you pushed your body up slightly.

“I like Sizhui~ I like Sizhui so much, but I’m to afraid to say anything...” You whined, letting your head fall down again while Sizhui just looked at you with shock.

“He’s soooo~ pretty and nice. He takes care of me, but he doesn’t see me as more then a friend... Why did I have to fall in love with him? But how couldn’t I? He’s too perfect...” You continued to whine, but the rest of your sentences were more mumbled against his chest.

He couldn’t help his heartbeat increasing as you confessed. He also couldn’t help but feel bad as you laid your soul bare, not knowing that you were doing it to the person who shouldn’t hear. You fell asleep again not much later, still clinging on to him like he’d disappear. 

When you woke up again, you were alone in the room. Your body was fully covered with a thick blanket and there was a towel next to your head, which had probably fallen off earlier. You sat up, whining as you felt a pang of pain shoot through your body as well as the throbbing in your leg. Your head was throbbing as well, thoughts racing through your mind as you tried to remember everything that led to this moments. You came up with nothing, of course.

The door opened and you looked up to see Sizhui, smiling at the male only to frown when he didn’t return the smile. He just looked away from your gaze, awkwardly grabbing the towel from your bed and washing it out in a bowl of water.

“Sizhui?” You asked and he flinched slightly before looking at you, his eyes still not meeting yours. You moved slightly before hissing at the pain, which caused Sizhui to quickly stand by your side. He was clearly concerned as his hand held yours, eyes full of concern as he looked at you for any indication of pain.

“I’m okay.” You quickly said and he nodded before letting go of your hand. You frowned again, trying to look him in the eye.

“Why are you avoiding me?” You asked, but he didn’t answer and tried to walk away instead. You grabbed his arm and pulled him back quickly, making him sit down next to you.

"Talk." You said curtly and he looked at you before sighing softly, still not looking you in the eye fully.

"You just said some stuff earlier..." He mumbled and you frowned, thinking back to earlier.

Then it hit you... You had confessed your love to the person that the confession was meant for.

"Oh, God... That was you!" You exclaimed as you stood up in frustration, hands grabbing onto your hair as you softly pulled the strands.

"So... yeah...." You sighed loudly as you sat back next to him.

"This is awkward..." You joked as you looked at him and he returned your smile softly.

"I meant it, by the way. Sorry if you don't, you know, feel the same..." You said and he looked at you before softly grabbing your hand, a blush appearing on his face. He didn't say anything, but just intertwined your fingers and you took it as a sign of returned feelings. Softly placing your head on his shoulder, you sighed in content with a small smile.

The rest of the boys returned from the mission not much later, stopping at the sight in front of them. You and Sizhui were laying on the bed, Sizhui hugging you from behind as you held on of his hands, and both of you were smiling brightly. Jingyi stared at the other two, pointing at the pair in shock.

"You're seeing that, right?! When did he confess? Did I die?" He asked and you opened one eye to glare at the loud male.

"Jingyi?" "Yes?" He turned around and you sighed at the dumb smile on his face. Your eyes connected to Jin Ling and both of you then looked back at Jingyi.

"Shut up."

Mainly just prompts and ideas I've had written about!!

I like to think these two first met after Fang and the hooligans tried to mug Jest only to get their ass handed to them. Jest finds them pathetic enough to be good entertainment so she follows them around. Mainly Fang because of his ego and short temper. [She gets along with the other hooligans well too!! If you can consider it well!! Her and Bean are as thick as thieves and Bark sees her as an extra problem to deal with]

Fang and Jest on their own work out pretty well, though they're often just found bickering and mocking each other until their plans get foiled. They're threatening, yet you can't help but wonder if they're even focused on whatever's going on cause they end up arguing at random points.

Jest has always liked their bickering, she aims to annoy. After realizing how unphased and attached she was, she realized she had gained a little crush on the boy. It made her even more annoying and more forward with her true feelings.

Jest knows Fang likes her the same and knows he won't admit it so she'll always pick on him for it. [Fang likes being teased to an extent... ;3]

Once Jest became more forward with her love for Fang, she gave him a nickname, "Fangy-Wangy-Woo", which she invented for the purpose of tormenting him with because she knows it sounds ridiculous. It's even more effective when used in front of other people.

Fang also has a pet name for Jest that was originally used more in an insulting manner, "Chubby Bunny". It ended up having an unintended effect and Jest found it more cute than offensive.

Fang has banned Jest from ever driving his Queen but that has not stopped her from taking it out for rides without asking. He does however let her share his seat while he drives.

Jest likes cinnamon buns and she often asks Fang to get her some when they go out. She gets him to try some and they remind him of her.

Though Jest does like Fang, she can be cruel in the name of love, it's part of her sadistic nature. Can she be considered a stalker? Who knows. But she doesn't like it when other people are too friendly with him. [She's giving Trip a criminally offensive side eye rn /lh]

Fang doesn't have any rizz but when he can catch Jest off guard it WORKS WELL.

Though Fang and Jest don't think anyone has caught onto their little affair, many are aware. Bark and Bean especially, they're just waiting for the charade of vulgar insults and bullying to end.

(I'm sticking strictly to book canon for this answer , as when it comes to the adaptations outside of it and the audio drama, no one is explicitly gay and it is not called a romance. )

1: Lan Xichen only realized it after the first siege and said as such when he loses his temper at Guanyin Temple. However he only knows that Lan Wangji had feelings, and had thought Mo Xuanyu, was Mo Xuanyu. He tries to get a read on the situation after Jinlintai when he speaks to Wei Wuxian about his parents and Lan Wangji. He is still unsure if Wei Wuxian is in love with Lan Wangji as well.

2: No, Jiang Cheng is a homophobe and actually uses several insults against Lan Wangi to imply he is gay with Mo Xuanyu, and slut shames him to anger Wei Wuxian. He is shocked and disgusted when all of his insults about them being gay, means they may actually be gay for real.

I think I'd like to talk about them more when I've finished reading the books. I'm in the middle of book 2 right now. Because the show is a censored romance, most of their relationship happens between the lines and in our heads.

I like Wangi's devotion, and I like Wuxian's loyalty and dedication to his principles. I like their teamwork after Wei Wuxian is resurrected, but honestly they mostly make me sad to reflect upon from the show because we get Wei Wuxian recognizing it so, so late.

I'll probably post about them again after I finish the book, because I like them as characters a lot, but they're a frustrating ship because of the censorship for me.

When Wei Wuxian was making drunk and dirty Lan Wangji take a bath to clean himself up after the chickens and vandalism and Lan Wangji also swiftly took off Wei Wuxian's clothing's tie and Wei Wuxian was like "No, no!? I'm not gonna go in with you!?"

It's the time Wei Wuxian wanted to ask drunk Lan Wangji how he felt about him (and kept telling himself that's all his motive). It's so cute how embarrassed Wei Wuxian was about the bath scene, even while he already saw nekkid Lan Wangji in the past. You can really see how conscious he is of Lan Wangji as a romantic interest and I think this kind of "first time" -ness of Wei Wuxian was really cute, even while he was actively trying to know Lan Wangji's feelings for him.

Meaningful favorite moment:

This is difficult!!! I love so many things.

I loved when Wei Wuxian was showing Lan Wangji around Yunmeng/Lotus Pier. Lan Wangji always overtly "rejected" Wei Wuxian's insistent invitations before, he "appeared" in Yunmeng before but it was never an "official visitation" and Wei Wuxian didn't think it was him Lan Wangji was looking for, and it ended in an argument when Lan Wangji insisted on Wei Wuxian to come back to Gusu with him again.

So when Wei Wuxian finally got the chance to have Lan Wangji in Yunmeng to show around, it was so cute (while also sad because of all the memories of his childhood he can't have back, but I am so happy that he got to actually go back, with Lan Wangji - he doesn't have to be alone).

It's like doing everything he wanted to do with Lan Wangji before, and more. He showed all his childhood trails, made Lan Wangji eat the foods he liked, visited the memorial of his foster parents to let them meet Lan Wangji no matter what (and did the two bows with him while holding off on the third bow for a hopeful some day ;o; ), climbed the tree he was stuck in (but didn't tell him the real reason ofc ;w; ), and of course, the moment he jumped straight into Lan Wangji's arms and he caught him (;-; ). It's so cute the way Wei Wuxian slowly realized his own feelings secretly and it was so nice seeing him just....... having a date with Lan Zhan (before he was only 3 year old Xian Xian asking his sister what it's like to like someone... but now he is... at least 10 year old Xian Xian XDDD), and then later slowly moved to know Lan Wangji's feelings as well. (;o; )

intimacy. intimacy is wow. and also, pretend relationships because why the hell not? Hannibal has feelings, which is cool, great, the writing was soothing, charming, IT’S COZY. REAL COZY. i loved it, i love that is a Hannibal pov, there’s so much longing and it’s beautiful, it’s not such a light read but it’s not at all overwhelming, would read again a hundred percent. 10/10

a misunderstanding leaves Hannibal feeling betrayed, and since he has two braincells, he’s somehow convinced by a stranger who looks just like him that switching lives parent trap style is a Great Idea. a Hannibal extended universe fanfic by my favorite hannigram author, it’s as the title says, a parent trap scenario, as always the writing is completely charming, Dev’s Nigel is one of the best, so well written and on character that is really pleasing to read, Nigel and Hannibal are both raging narcissistic assholes, and it’s just so funny and witty and charismatic. 100/10, would read again.

Hello! Wish you to have a wonderful mood :) I have a mood for theories, so question is about that.

If you believe that they got together even before shooting the Untamed, isn't it sounds like a miracle that web character traits were so similar to Lan Wangi?

Like, ok, I can see that when xz was given a role he could recommend his boyfriend to be casted as Lan Wangi, since he is an actor too. But what are the chances that they would cast his bf AND he would be famous for his cold appearence to stranges and being very quiet, speaking very few? Because I think that's the main reason he got casted on a role, because he had this in him. In the interview it was said, that they saw Lan Wangi in him, it was his character.

Especially it would sound like a miracle if he got Lan Wangi role and they didn't know those two were dating.

I just think that they really didn't talk much after DDU, as they said, and got to know each other on set. Things like this happen in life and it certanly sounds more realistic to me.

I love digging into theories, and I'm always interested in looking at things from a different perspective. Yours is an interesting one, but I admit I don't quite follow the logic here.

For readers who are unfamiliar with my thoughts on timeline, here are a couple of posts you might want to read before going any further:

If I'm correctly following what you're saying, here, your basic premise is that it would be wildly unusual and a deeply unlikely coincidence for DD to be so well suited for the role of Lan Wangji and to be cast in that role while also dating the man who was cast as Wei Wuxian. Much more unlikely than them both being cast in those roles because they were suited to them, and later getting romantically involved with each other. There's no way they could have been cast opposite each other without production knowing they were a couple.

Here are some of my thoughts on that:

While GG was basically handpicked for the role of WWX, there is no evidence to suggest that DD was recommended (by GG or anyone else) for the role of LWJ, or had applied for the role of LWJ specifically. All we know is that he submitted a photo during casting. It's possible he was being considered for other roles. His photo had been passed over a couple of times before they decided to bring him in for an audition. At that time all the roles had been filled except LWJ. When the producer saw him in person she immediately thought he'd be perfect for the role.

If - IF - DD was recommended by GG (or anyone else) for the role of Lan Wangji (and I really don't buy that theory - I think it would be more likely that they just wanted to work together on a queer production, regardless of their roles) he might have been recommended for that role because of the sense that DD would make a good LWJ, not just because he was GG's BF.

They would have been looking for someone who was very beautiful, cold and reserved. While DD is definitely all of those things on first impression, those are by no means his only traits (he can be a lewd, crass, hilarious gremlin, for example). It's just fortunate that his demeanour when meeting someone new - particularly in a formal setting - is very polite, obedient and reserved. It gave the producer an immediate taste of that side of his personality, which was suitable for LWJ. And of course DD is definitely A JADE. So beautiful. The photo sent in by his team was wildly unsuitable for LWJ, which was probably the biggest reason he wasn't taken seriously for the role at first.

I strongly disagree with the notion that production would have had any idea they were dating. GG and DD are quite good at pretending not to know each other - we've seen this with our own eyes. I'm not sure why you'd think they'd out themselves to strangers, or let the nature of their relationship be known to people who were considering hiring them. Queer people are exceptionally skilled at hiding their queerness, their relationships, etc. as a matter of survival. That has to be even more true for queer celebrities in a country like China. Even in a queer-friendly production such as the one I believe The Untamed was, no one's going to just barge in and let it all hang out on the first day. Those relationships of trust are built up over time. In the early stages, even if a team was rumored to be queer friendly, everyone would have been very cautious and reserved until they knew for sure.

There are also reasons why the idea they 'got to know each other and fell in love on set' just doesn't hold a lot of water for me. I've talked about that in some detail in the two posts I linked above, so I won't go into it all again.

I think it would be much more unlikely of a coincidence for two shy, 'slow-starting' guys like GG and DD to go from complete strangers to being joined at the hip (and in their own little world with their own language/rapport that's practically incomprehensible to others) within days of meeting, than for a couple of talented actors who are dating and want to work on a queer production together to be hired for the leading roles and do a good job.

But we'll never know for sure, so everyone should feel free to speculate and theorize and come up with their own take on things. As I've said before, there's no need to marry ourselves to one theory. It's fun to consider all angles.

Here's the thing, what about switching means you have to continually make it out of character for them to make it a thing? Wei Wuxian enjoys being in control teasingly and dirty talk, this doesn't mean he wants to be the doer to get his satisfaction. Lan Zhan is fairly shy about things, this doesn't mean he can't be overwhelmed as the apparent top.

Switching also doesn't automatically mean "more inclusive". To posit such a thing is sex shaming anyone's individual wants with sex. Hey, I like bottom Lan Wangji. What I don't enjoy is making him needing to be "more open" or "or more emotional" with the act of bottoming as if that's a claim that Wei Wuxian really needs for them to be equal. Too many seem to rely on this act as if Lan Wangji is somehow letting go for reals. Was him not finally being intimate somehow not enough with the person he loved? Why is switching somehow the true act of equality between couples constantly for fandom, and anything else close minded?

Because Wei Wuxian is the more ideally masculine of the pair and this is said especially of his old self, he would never have bottomed "if it was earlier". As if we weren't shown and told by himself about being taken in libraries or woods for Lan Wangji to do as he wanted. Having want to be submissive and penetrated by a partner doesn't mean lesser, especially for gay men. Lan Wangi despite being described as the maiden of the story, doesn't mean he needs to also be suddenly docilely overwhelmed due to the act of penetration. As described in the book itself Wei Wuxian is the talker, Lan Wangi is the doer. What of this dynamic means they have to shift in preference of action and words to be a top and bottom respectively for the act of sex to make them wildly out of character suddenly because of switching their usual roles during sex?
