I got a used copy of The Information by Beck at a random store and I had no idea but I guess it came with stickers for you to personalize your CD box back in the day and theres a whole page of unused pristine condition (if only a bit yellowed) stickers, and for the first time of my life I understand people who have sticker anxiety. I'll probably never put them anywhere and just frame the whole thing.

satoru honestly isn’t half as cocky as the media makes him out to be but he could be because you bring up world champion men’s freestyle swim times and it’s his name on the scoreboard ten times before someone else shows up. he’s faster than himself by fifteen seconds all around, he’s earned a bit of cockiness. mentioned in the last post that whenever he’s at a competition and he finishes a race, he looks at the camera and signs a little infinity sign and then blows a kiss to you. some bitter old coach always calls him out on it, and gets him fined for unsportsmanlike conduct, and he’s happy to pay the fees if it means getting a message home to you, but eventually you two come up with a new code; and at his next race, he places gold, turns to the camera, crosses his middle finger over his pointer finger and smiles. when he’s in his post-race interview, he makes sure to explain that he does it for you with the widest smile on his face.

megumi nepotism baby but not in the same sport. toji was a multi gold medalist back in his heyday for shooting, so it’s not really a surprise to anybody that megumi has scary good aim, but he takes to archery instead of shooting. actually the idea of megumi being an emo little kid and throwing rocks at a tree when his dad pissed him off his hilarious, and even funnier is toji watching him, slightly amused and a little scared because megumi is maybe six and hitting the exact same spot every single time. he grows to be very blase about it—it’s more of a release/hobby for him that he happens to be really good at, and well, now good enough to earn a few olympic medals. megumi is not a fan of having his dad ruffle his hair on international television after he’s won, but he supposes it can’t be helped.

i don’t know where to put yuuta…. tennis…. tempting….. him in his little white shorts…. little grunts after he serves…. cries….. a complete 180 in his personality when he’s playing vs doing anything else. so charming and sweet and kinda shy when he’s being interviewed, and the second he steps on the court his eyes are so cold it’s scary…. need him… extremely nerdy about his rackets, and shoes, and clothes, and rambles to you about aerodynamics and posture and torque whenever you ask him to teach you, and you always have to shutup him up with a kiss and remind him that yeah you sort of want to learn to play tennis for him, but mostly you came bc he looks hot doing it. once he got asked in an interview if he ever thinks about you while he’s playing and his response was very concise, “no, never. it would be a big distraction,” and did not realize the implications of his heavily televised words. 

also…. not to make this post 40% yuuta but we could pull from canon a bit and make his sport fencing. he doesn’t excel because he’s the strongest, it’s because he’s learned to treat the sword as an extension of himself and a good strategist… also because i like the image of him pulling the helmet/mask off and shaking his hair out………..

don’t even know where to put yuuji…. volleyball? basketball? track and field??? the irony of him easily being the most athletic but canonically does not want to play sports 😭 but i can see him playing a sport because someone scouts him and it turns out to be a way to make steady money to support himself and his grandpa :( by the time he’s qualified and made it to the olympics, wasuke is doing much better (thanks to yuuji having landed some preemptive sponsorships and being able to afford better medical care), but not so well enough that he can travel across the world to watch yuuji play. wasuke tells you that you should travel and be with yuuji, but yuuji is so touched by the idea that you would stay with his grandpa and be by his side when he’s away :(( he wins gold, of course, and he doesn’t even wait until the closing ceremony—which, he’d mentioned in all of his interviews, so nobody can be too upset. he’s on record saying, “i’m excited to play, but i’m even happier to be going home. my girlfriend and my grandpa are watching me and i miss them!” several times— he’s on the first flight home with flowers, and tears in his eyes. puts his gold medal on his grandpa’s neck as a thank you, and spends probably thirty minutes straight hugging you and kissing you and honestly don’t put it past him to propose now that he’s got nike ambassador money 

nanami started judo as a way to relieve the stress of his overbearing job, and someone at the gym/training center notices he seems to be a natural despite being a beginner. he starts to draw a crowd, which annoys him at first because the point of judo was discipline and release from having to deal with too many people at his office job, but nanami supposes he can’t be too mad when you introduce yourself as a talent scout and offer him professional training. there’s irony in him accepting your offer, because it was definitely not based in professionalism at all… quitting his job as a salaryman to become a professional athlete in his mid-twenties was not on his bingo chart, but if it means he will have met you, then so be it. you’re with him all the way, through his training, competitions, world championships, qualifiers, all the way until he’s on the podium. you’re the first to congratulate him, but he interjects by telling you he’s quitting. you ask him why—he just won at the olympics for crying out loud, but nanami just shakes his head, puts down his flowers and his medal so his hands are free to hold your face and tell you, “it would be unethical to kiss my manager, so i am quitting.” (later, when everything is said and done, and you two are cuddling, you mention to him that he could just hire a new manager, and not quit his new career, to which he blushes because yeah… that’s probably more rational, but rational was not in his train of thought at the time)

I think Freminet has some of the most interesting dissonance in his self perception of any Genshin character.

Like, of the Hearthlings we know, he's one of the most emotionally mature and intelligent. Lynette might still have him beat, but after playing her hangout... I dunno. I think they're tied. Lyney is Crumbling, Alrecchino is. Well. Arlecchino. Everyone else is a deeply traumatized child or adult and Freminet seems to pretty regularly be people's emotional support. His character stories talk about getting his vision by saving a bunch of other kids on a dive that went bad. The Selkie event literally had him being a therapist for a grownass woman, citing his past experiences with all the other Hearthlings that have died or killed themselves. And he handled that situation WELL. Yeah, he seems to live in a fantasy, but goddamn he's alive and a lot of people in his position aren't so clearly something is working.

Either his or Lyney's character story talks about the time Freminet had reached out to Lyney to try to ease his burdens, which resulted in Lyney blowing up at him. That probably contributed to Freminet thinking he's not good at it, but I think the reason Lyney reacted so badly was BECAUSE Freminet is actually a good support. He can't allow himself that from the little brother he's supposed to protect.

Freminet seems to both cry and dissociate often, but like... Kiddo you are in fact the only person in this family actually processing your emotions. Lynette dissociates 24/7. Arlecchino. Lyney lies and tells everyone he's fine and would literally rather die than admit otherwise. In comparison, Freminet is doing FANTASTIC

Freminet also gets a lot out of helping people! Like anyone, he needs to feel useful and needed. He seems to be an excellent mentor to the younger Hearthlings and perfectly competent on his own, but when you put him in a room with Lyney and Lynette who baby him and insist that THEY take care of HIM, he withdraws into himself.

Like, Freminet by himself feels like a young man and Freminet with the magician twins feels like a teenager. I have no idea how old he actually is. Logically, he would be OLDER than them! He's been with the House much, much longer and his experience shows. I think it's fascinating that they love him SO MUCH and yet, they just Cannot let him help them. Which is hurting him.

(Lynette is much better about not babying him and that is probably why their relationship is so much better than Freminet and Lyney's. Also why she keeps having to mediate between them. Because Lyney charges off trying to Fix Everything and that just makes Freminet feel useless and he doesn't want to get in the way and- you get the point)

Idk. It's hard to tell what things the previous director said to him vs what Arlecchino has said to him. I'm inclined to think our Arlecchino was the one that said he cries too much, but in a "crying in front of your enemies will get you killed" way and she herself is too fucked up to realize how "you cry too much" could be damaging.

Also I try not to consider gameplay stuff when it comes to story, but Freminet also has some of the most BRUTAL animations. He SMASHES HIS EMOTIONAL SUPPORT METAL PENGUIN INTO HIS ENEMY'S FACE. He doesn't think he's the most amazing fighter, and by Fatui standards he probably isn't, but he is winning fights against most grown men.

Tldr Freminet thinks he cries too much and is a burden and isn't good at helping people when he's actually the most mentally stable Hearthling send tweet

"Let me drown in you" - Till knowing deep down that Mizi doesn't love him in that way, but he still asks for that chance because he wants her to love him back

Till being desperate for Mizi's attention, love, ect. he has nothing left going for him, so if she could at least lend him her heart so that he could forget his own pain he'd willingly put himself through the pains of being in Alien stage to get there. He'd let himself get lost in perfect picture of her if only for some semblance of meaning.

"I'll drown in you" - Till giving Ivan his heart isn't an option and he knows it, but Till has nobody else to fill that void, so he'd be willing to let himself be lost in that one-sided fantasy even if Till doesn't reciprocate, because at least he's letting him, and Ivan will continue letting himself be seen as a different person even after he's not useful anymore.

Ivan wants Till's attention, love, etc. and even though Till has nothing to give Ivan, Ivan takes what he can get and puts himself and his pain aside to be next to Till, if only to get Till's heart to himself.

horror being very specific with table manners and he berates people (dust and killer) for eating like fucking pigs

i think it'd be morbidly funny that because there was no food in horrortale but the cutlery and stuff was all there that maybe he would pretend to eat with no food on the plate. it was in a satirical way that he would joke maybe around horror paps or alone where he would pretend to eat and have really good table manners but then the satire joke became REAL and now horror is incredibly specific about how to eat food

you MUST hold the fork in the left and knife in right says horror. no killer you can't duel wield the fucking knives this is a table not a slaughterhouse. dust pick up your elbows off the table. actually how about you get your entire upper body off the table tf why are you SLEEPING ON THE FOOD??? killer's sitting fetal position in the chair because of course he wouldn't sit normally like the idiot he is. dust is forced to put his hood down and reveal his face no more mysterious shadow style because it puts horror at ease. they cannot have a single peaceful meal because once they get past the table manners phase it then becomes a completion to see who can eat the least (because they suck at everything including eating)

I feel very strongly about people having speech difficulties tied to their emotions so take this headcannon: Kevin when especially scared or upset just CANNOT speak english, he can sometimes speak a little japanese but he actually is best at speaking french as his "safe" language during those moments. He speaks very quietly too so for awhile everyone thought he was just muttering in english, it's not until Neil actually replies to him in french once during one of these times people realize it's quiet french not incomprehensible english

Neil also sometimes gets french only brain but for him it's tied to being severely disoriented like the haze he was in in the nest

I have always loved the idea of people losing their ability to speak coherently when their mouth can’t keep up with their brains. People who’ve been through speech therapy to stop a stammer who can’t stop stammering when they’re emotional. People who get frustrated with themselves when they can’t think of the right words during an argument. People who feel embarrassed when they say something that makes no sense, and the more they try to fix it, the worse it gets. People who can’t think in their second language when they’re emotional, who feel like they are so smart in their first language but feel like they talk like a toddler in their second, or their third. Speech impediments in any manner slipping through the cracks. Voice cracks. Their own words failing them when it’s all that they have in a moment of weakness.

I’d agree that French is a safe language for Kevin. In part because it’s that; it’s safe, it’s Riko can’t understand, it’s something he’s learned in life that isn’t Exy. It’s something that was not planned out for him since birth. It was his. Only his. The other part is because of Jean.

When Jean panics, Kevin is there to calm him down with a ça va aller or some other comfort in French. When Jean is hurt, when Jean is afraid. French is always there, his native tongue, to bring him back from the edge. It’s just theirs, his and Jean’s, their own universe, their safe place.

I don’t know how to succinctly explain what I mean; Kevin has always used French as a comfort. So hearing or speaking it is in turn a comfort for him.

He gets frustrated or upset, it’s safer for him to slip into French. If he says “I can feel his feet on my hands” or “I can’t get his face out of my head” in English, eyes are turning his way, people are wondering what’s going on. But when he whispers something to himself in French, he gets it out, but it still stays a secret because nobody understands it.

Yeah, I can picture Kevin having a panic attack, pacing around the dorm, or sitting tight in the corner of the room, and mumbling to himself in French. And then Neil kneels down in front of him and says talk to me. The French is so jarring, even though he’s heard Neil speaking it a thousand times before, because he’s not used to being in such a state and hearing someone comfort him in the way he used to comfort Jean. Andrew doesn’t know what they’re saying, and maybe Kevin doesn’t have the capacity to respond, but Neil speaks to him softly in French to bring him back from that edge, down from the brink. Japanese belonged to Riko. English belongs to the world.

French belonged to nobody else. French belongs to Kevin, and Jean.

It’s safe. It was learned to keep Jean safe, and now it keeps him safe.
