my job is wild i was surrounded by teens using blowtorches today
#assisting in an HVAC class#the students were learning about sensible vs latent heat and doing a demo in which they blasted ice water in a beaker with a blowtorch#and measured the temp change#showing the temp didnt change until all the ice melted#bc latent heat exchange just changes the state of matter but doesnt change the temperature#which is pretty cool#i love science

You know, sometimes I’m grateful that my first summer in my graduate lab, at the impressionable age of 22, my main assignment was to design and build a full closed-loop water cooling system, with a chiller whose heat exchanger had to also be connected to the building cold water system (which, if you screwed it up, had enough water flow that you could flood the whole lab). And I gained familiarity with all the main types of hose, tube, and pipe connectors and how to install them.
I also learned the very important life lesson of, if all else fails, a blow torch can solve nearly any problem. I think I solved three different problems with a blow torch that summer.
No home plumbing I might undertake will match the disasters I ran into that summer.
#I couldn't get my pipe threads to stop leaking no matter how much I tightened them or added or subtracted teflon tape#so in the end I soldered them#I've never had to do that at home#so I feel like home plumbing is consistently easy#someday I should tell the story of the students at the table next to me#who used sink water to cool their electronics#rather than my closed-loop distilled water system#where the building water was only on the other side of the heat exchanger--never going through my delicate electronics and lasers#because the thing is... tap water has all sorts of junk in it#iron and calcium carbonate to name two of the most common ones#calcium carbonate... also known as lime#and if you run it through a narrow tube for years on end...#well you can end up creating your own limestone caverns#in the end a stalactite formed in their acousto-optic modulator#big enough to break the gasket seal#so suddenly their AOM was leaking water all over their optics table

#i started talking to a girl in line and she was my translator in the in between segments dlgnsljl#and we exchanged ig handles#the korean was only translated to swedish so i just didn't know what i was screaming abt but that's what i did#but there was a girl who needed medical assistance or at least be brought outside i hope she's ok#it's possible that many people had heat exhaustion or smth bc the line outside was nowhere near a shady area#it was very warm and i had to drink 2 waters as soon as i got inside#but people were very well behaved and they made way for anyone who needed it#the hall was maybe half full but the energy was amazing#and billlie girls were just incredible i was actually enchanted hahah#i forgot i was filming very often and the videos are probably shaky as helllll

Principle of operation
The temperature in the panels will always be managed below 40 degrees Celsius - the main purpose is to increase the conversion efficiency of the Electrical System. And this is also the best time for the Evaporator to absorb heat, causing the COP system to push up very high for the Hot Water part. Efficiency can be much above 8.0, something that very few Heatpump machines with high COP can meet.
In particular, during the day the solar panel will absorb solar energy and then store electricity. In case of rainy days (overcast weather), it will provide electricity to the heat pump . So we won't need to worry about energy problems when there is no sunlight but we still have hot water to use.
