To expand on my girl sad about her arranged marriage trope post, I think the trope can be subverted (woman is happy about arranged marriage) but it can also be done well and without modern sentiments (ew, sex with someone I don't love is yucky/I want to marry for true love/I want to be a GirlbossTM)
For example, princess is sad about her arranged marriage because:
-Her nation and the prospective husband prince's nation were at war five minutes ago and many members of her own family died in the war. The marriage is designed to cap off a peace treaty but what happens if peace doesn't last and she finds herself the queen of a nation at war with her own homeland? If you want real angsty enemies to lovers, the prince himself killed her own brother in the war.
-The nation the princess is marrying into is very culturally different from her own, very far away/a dangerous journey, and she hasn't been able to learn the language. She will be bringing some of her ladies-in-waiting but fears being very homesick in a place so different from her homeland.
-The princess already married for political reasons and her husband has now died. This time she wants to make her own choice because she's paid her dues (there is historical precedent for this)
-Princess has known her future spouse since childhood and was happy to marry him, he died suddenly and now she's being asked to marry his weird younger brother whom she knows well and dislikes.
-Princess is heavily prejudiced against the nation she is marrying into because of racism/xenophobia or whatever but they have a resource her kingdom needs and a baller army, so marriage it is! She overcomes her pride and prejudice as she falls in love with her husband.

tw kidnapped reader, reader is forced to be jason's companion/spouse. arranged marriage elements, i guess. knight au
jason todd is a soldier first. he's never been anything but.
he's the kingdom's best. the king is quite proud of his best soldier. his violent mercenary who's as loyal as they come. he's fantastic.
but he's been at war too long. the king knows this, and understands he must do something to help his best soldier adjust to life back home if he wants him to continue to fight. jason's a prized racehorse, but he gets skittish, moody. the nightmares don't help. what do you do to help a racehorse? you get it a goat to calm it down. so, the king gets his soldier a "goat" to soothe him: you.
you're perfect! you're perfect because you're just a commoner, in no way a threat to anyone, and completely ordinary. no one will miss you. but. but. jason met you once in town and lingers outside the bookshop you work at every time he comes home from battle. he never goes in. suddenly, you're no longer ordinary.
so months after jason's return, you're summoned by his majesty. you are the best match for his best soldier, he says, and that's that. they leave you in jason's cottage that's miles from the kingdom. you're given a tea that knocks you out cold, but that's just a precaution! there's no need to be afraid. the accompanying maid even pretties you up a bit, not that you need it.
and jason comes home to you, the lovely bookshop worker he's watched for forever. he promised himself he would be good; he wouldn't approach you and scare you with his awful scars or his growly voice. he knows soldiers are rough. he swore he'd only watch you for your safety, because you're so damn nice, too nice for this kingdom, and he doesn't want a flower like you to be crushed.
and what a flower you are, laying in his bed, beautiful and unmarred and sweet. you're in delicate nightwear, with a ribbon around your neck, like you're a present to unwrap. jason immediately feels sick. he can't do this. he can't keep you, be responsible for you. why would his king do this to you? to him?
he hovers over you for what feels like ages, watching your chest go up and down as you sleep. he's still in his armor, dirty from training. he should go bathe. he should sharpen his weapons. above all, he should not touch you.
and then you awaken. you take a deep breath and your eyes crack open. jason stumbles backward and nearly knocks over the nightstand. you watch him, confused and somewhat wary.
this hulking soldier almost falls over apologizing, cheeks flaming red. he hightails it out of his own room, and you don't see him for the rest of the night.
you fall asleep in his bed. in the morning, there's still no trace of him, save for a plate of crumbly bread and cheese and a mug of tea on the table nearby.
you wonder if you're a gift or a curse.

arranged husband!geto suguru would let you play with his hair. when it's his day off, he would sit on the floor and you sitting on the couch, right behind him. his head is between your thighs, and you will pull his hair back a bit so you can take some strands to braid it.
"ow..."
you chuckled, muttering an apology as you continue to braid his hair, loosening your hand a bit so it's not too tight.
and if he's feeling a little generous, he'd even let you put some clips or ribbons in it.
arranged husband!geto suguru likes to lay on your chest when you're done doing his hair. you'd lay on the couch comfortably, while he wraps his arms around you as he almost bury his face on your breasts.
"do i look pretty?" his voice was soft, and a little muffled as he spoke.
"you're gorgeous." you laughed at him.
arranged husband!geto suguru will not take his braids off until the middle of the night. he doesn't care if the maids see him in such style, as long as you're happy and he gets to keep your handiwork with him.
arranged husband!geto suguru who would try to do your nails. his hold on your hands is soft, carefully painting your nails with a color that he chose. his moves were slow, but a little shaky since he never done this before, but you were shocked to see that he did a great job once he finished.
arranged husband!geto suguru who'll take you out on a night date once in a while. you two would walk the city hand in hand, savoring the calming atmosphere that it radiates. then you two will stop at a convenience store to buy some ice cream.
"what a beautiful boyfriend you have there, sweetheart..." the old cashier lady said, smiling at the two of you.
you blushed, as suguru chuckles as he says, "she's my wife, ma'am."
arranged husband!geto suguru who'd help you bake red velvet cookies, since it was your favorite. you two never fail to make a big mess in the kitchen, flours and frosting all over your hands and clothes.
suguru swiped a frosting in his fingers, and then unexpectedly wiping it on your face. you gasped, slapping his arm. "suguru!"
"cute..." he says as he licks the frosting over your nose.
arranged husband!geto suguru loves you a lot. and he wants to show it in many ways. through his words, through his actions, and through his gifts.
"suguru, what's with the flowers?" you asked as he handed you a bouquet.
"the garden has bloomed so many flowers this season, i thought it'll be fun to make a bouquet for you."
"you made this?!"
arranged husband!geto suguru who finally convinced you to always sleep in the same bedroom with him. after days of sleeping separately a few times, and together during your lovemaking session, you're now finally sleeping in the same bed with him, like a real husband and wife.
and he's so happy that he almost suffocates you with his hugs.
all he really wanted was you. to be a part of your every day as he spends the next mornings with you as his lovely wife.
