Unenlighted: Sky and Wild don't have that good of a relationship due to Sky's guilt and Wild not feeling he's good enough when compared to any of his predecessors because he failed the kingdom once and it gets exacerbated by the events of TOTK, similar case with Flora and Sun.
Enlightened: Sky and Wild have a pretty good relationship, but it's still strained because of both their problems and the strain grows bigger after TOTK when Fi breaks, Sun likes Flora just fine as a descendant while Flora is incessantly tormented by the fact she always believed her entire life she'd never measure up to the other Zelda's because she couldn't fulfill her duty anymore than Wild could, and it causes communication.
Ascended: Sky and Twilight having a full blow custody war in the back because they both see Wild as a better successor than he believes himself to be due to the parallels to BOTW, TOTK and Skyward Sword even though it's technically Twilight Princess' spiritual sucessor (since it was originally made to be a sequel to that game) and Sky and Wild both get along well with one another, and instead of getting angry at Wild for breaking Fi he's more so worried for him and her equally (and then has to be held back by the rest of the Chain along with Twi to not eviscerate whatever's left of Ganondorf's body) meanwhile Sun all but surprise adopted Flora as a sister and is super supportive of all her pursuits and number one hype woman because she was as unhinged as her at her age and Flora is flabbergasted but really really happy and relieved she doesn't see her as a disappointment or anything and they get along like the sister she never had growing up. Specially since they can both bond over not being quite regular humans anymore and can help one another deal and learn more about it.
I will not elaborate.

How I got scammed

I wuz robbed.
More specifically, I was tricked by a phone-phisher pretending to be from my bank, and he convinced me to hand over my credit-card number, then did $8,000+ worth of fraud with it before I figured out what happened. And then he tried to do it again, a week later!
Here's what happened. Over the Christmas holiday, I traveled to New Orleans. The day we landed, I hit a Chase ATM in the French Quarter for some cash, but the machine declined the transaction. Later in the day, we passed a little credit-union's ATM and I used that one instead (I bank with a one-branch credit union and generally there's no fee to use another CU's ATM).
A couple days later, I got a call from my credit union. It was a weekend, during the holiday, and the guy who called was obviously working for my little CU's after-hours fraud contractor. I'd dealt with these folks before – they service a ton of little credit unions, and generally the call quality isn't great and the staff will often make mistakes like mispronouncing my credit union's name.
That's what happened here – the guy was on a terrible VOIP line and I had to ask him to readjust his mic before I could even understand him. He mispronounced my bank's name and then asked if I'd attempted to spend $1,000 at an Apple Store in NYC that day. No, I said, and groaned inwardly. What a pain in the ass. Obviously, I'd had my ATM card skimmed – either at the Chase ATM (maybe that was why the transaction failed), or at the other credit union's ATM (it had been a very cheap looking system).
I told the guy to block my card and we started going through the tedious business of running through recent transactions, verifying my identity, and so on. It dragged on and on. These were my last hours in New Orleans, and I'd left my family at home and gone out to see some of the pre-Mardi Gras krewe celebrations and get a muffalata, and I could tell that I was going to run out of time before I finished talking to this guy.
"Look," I said, "you've got all my details, you've frozen the card. I gotta go home and meet my family and head to the airport. I'll call you back on the after-hours number once I'm through security, all right?"
He was frustrated, but that was his problem. I hung up, got my sandwich, went to the airport, and we checked in. It was total chaos: an Alaska Air 737 Max had just lost its door-plug in mid-air and every Max in every airline's fleet had been grounded, so the check in was crammed with people trying to rebook. We got through to the gate and I sat down to call the CU's after-hours line. The person on the other end told me that she could only handle lost and stolen cards, not fraud, and given that I'd already frozen the card, I should just drop by the branch on Monday to get a new card.
We flew home, and later the next day, I logged into my account and made a list of all the fraudulent transactions and printed them out, and on Monday morning, I drove to the bank to deal with all the paperwork. The folks at the CU were even more pissed than I was. The fraud that run up to more than $8,000, and if Visa refused to take it out of the merchants where the card had been used, my little credit union would have to eat the loss.
I agreed and commiserated. I also pointed out that their outsource, after-hours fraud center bore some blame here: I'd canceled the card on Saturday but most of the fraud had taken place on Sunday. Something had gone wrong.
One cool thing about banking at a tiny credit-union is that you end up talking to people who have actual authority, responsibility and agency. It turned out the the woman who was processing my fraud paperwork was a VP, and she decided to look into it. A few minutes later she came back and told me that the fraud center had no record of having called me on Saturday.
"That was the fraudster," she said.
Oh, shit. I frantically rewound my conversation, trying to figure out if this could possibly be true. I hadn't given him anything apart from some very anodyne info, like what city I live in (which is in my Wikipedia entry), my date of birth (ditto), and the last four digits of my card.
Wait a sec.
He hadn't asked for the last four digits. He'd asked for the last seven digits. At the time, I'd found that very frustrating, but now – "The first nine digits are the same for every card you issue, right?" I asked the VP.
I'd given him my entire card number.
Goddammit.
The thing is, I know a lot about fraud. I'm writing an entire series of novels about this kind of scam:
https://us.macmillan.com/books/9781250865878/thebezzle
And most summers, I go to Defcon, and I always go to the "social engineering" competitions where an audience listens as a hacker in a soundproof booth cold-calls merchants (with the owner's permission) and tries to con whoever answers the phone into giving up important information.
But I'd been conned.
Now look, I knew I could be conned. I'd been conned before, 13 years ago, by a Twitter worm that successfully phished out of my password via DM:
https://locusmag.com/2010/05/cory-doctorow-persistence-pays-parasites/
That scam had required a miracle of timing. It started the day before, when I'd reset my phone to factory defaults and reinstalled all my apps. That same day, I'd published two big online features that a lot of people were talking about. The next morning, we were late getting out of the house, so by the time my wife and I dropped the kid at daycare and went to the coffee shop, it had a long line. Rather than wait in line with me, my wife sat down to read a newspaper, and so I pulled out my phone and found a Twitter DM from a friend asking "is this you?" with a URL.
Assuming this was something to do with those articles I'd published the day before, I clicked the link and got prompted for my Twitter login again. This had been happening all day because I'd done that mobile reinstall the day before and all my stored passwords had been wiped. I entered it but the page timed out. By that time, the coffees were ready. We sat and chatted for a bit, then went our own ways.
I was on my way to the office when I checked my phone again. I had a whole string of DMs from other friends. Each one read "is this you?" and had a URL.
Oh, shit, I'd been phished.
If I hadn't reinstalled my mobile OS the day before. If I hadn't published a pair of big articles the day before. If we hadn't been late getting out the door. If we had been a little more late getting out the door (so that I'd have seen the multiple DMs, which would have tipped me off).
There's a name for this in security circles: "Swiss-cheese security." Imagine multiple slices of Swiss cheese all stacked up, the holes in one slice blocked by the slice below it. All the slices move around and every now and again, a hole opens up that goes all the way through the stack. Zap!
The fraudster who tricked me out of my credit card number had Swiss cheese security on his side. Yes, he spoofed my bank's caller ID, but that wouldn't have been enough to fool me if I hadn't been on vacation, having just used a pair of dodgy ATMs, in a hurry and distracted. If the 737 Max disaster hadn't happened that day and I'd had more time at the gate, I'd have called my bank back. If my bank didn't use a slightly crappy outsource/out-of-hours fraud center that I'd already had sub-par experiences with. If, if, if.
The next Friday night, at 5:30PM, the fraudster called me back, pretending to be the bank's after-hours center. He told me my card had been compromised again. But: I hadn't removed my card from my wallet since I'd had it replaced. Also, it was half an hour after the bank closed for the long weekend, a very fraud-friendly time. And when I told him I'd call him back and asked for the after-hours fraud number, he got very threatening and warned me that because I'd now been notified about the fraud that any losses the bank suffered after I hung up the phone without completing the fraud protocol would be billed to me. I hung up on him. He called me back immediately. I hung up on him again and put my phone into do-not-disturb.
The following Tuesday, I called my bank and spoke to their head of risk-management. I went through everything I'd figured out about the fraudsters, and she told me that credit unions across America were being hit by this scam, by fraudsters who somehow knew CU customers' phone numbers and names, and which CU they banked at. This was key: my phone number is a reasonably well-kept secret. You can get it by spending money with Equifax or another nonconsensual doxing giant, but you can't just google it or get it at any of the free services. The fact that the fraudsters knew where I banked, knew my name, and had my phone number had really caused me to let down my guard.
The risk management person and I talked about how the credit union could mitigate this attack: for example, by better-training the after-hours card-loss staff to be on the alert for calls from people who had been contacted about supposed card fraud. We also went through the confusing phone-menu that had funneled me to the wrong department when I called in, and worked through alternate wording for the menu system that would be clearer (this is the best part about banking with a small CU – you can talk directly to the responsible person and have a productive discussion!). I even convinced her to buy a ticket to next summer's Defcon to attend the social engineering competitions.
There's a leak somewhere in the CU systems' supply chain. Maybe it's Zelle, or the small number of corresponding banks that CUs rely on for SWIFT transaction forwarding. Maybe it's even those after-hours fraud/card-loss centers. But all across the USA, CU customers are getting calls with spoofed caller IDs from fraudsters who know their registered phone numbers and where they bank.
I've been mulling this over for most of a month now, and one thing has really been eating at me: the way that AI is going to make this kind of problem much worse.
Not because AI is going to commit fraud, though.
One of the truest things I know about AI is: "we're nowhere near a place where bots can steal your job, we're certainly at the point where your boss can be suckered into firing you and replacing you with a bot that fails at doing your job":
https://pluralistic.net/2024/01/15/passive-income-brainworms/#four-hour-work-week
I trusted this fraudster specifically because I knew that the outsource, out-of-hours contractors my bank uses have crummy headsets, don't know how to pronounce my bank's name, and have long-ass, tedious, and pointless standardized questionnaires they run through when taking fraud reports. All of this created cover for the fraudster, whose plausibility was enhanced by the rough edges in his pitch - they didn't raise red flags.
As this kind of fraud reporting and fraud contacting is increasingly outsourced to AI, bank customers will be conditioned to dealing with semi-automated systems that make stupid mistakes, force you to repeat yourself, ask you questions they should already know the answers to, and so on. In other words, AI will groom bank customers to be phishing victims.
This is a mistake the finance sector keeps making. 15 years ago, Ben Laurie excoriated the UK banks for their "Verified By Visa" system, which validated credit card transactions by taking users to a third party site and requiring them to re-enter parts of their password there:
https://web.archive.org/web/20090331094020/http://www.links.org/?p=591
This is exactly how a phishing attack works. As Laurie pointed out, this was the banks training their customers to be phished.
I came close to getting phished again today, as it happens. I got back from Berlin on Friday and my suitcase was damaged in transit. I've been dealing with the airline, which means I've really been dealing with their third-party, outsource luggage-damage service. They have a terrible website, their emails are incoherent, and they officiously demand the same information over and over again.
This morning, I got a scam email asking me for more information to complete my damaged luggage claim. It was a terrible email, from a noreply@ email address, and it was vague, officious, and dishearteningly bureaucratic. For just a moment, my finger hovered over the phishing link, and then I looked a little closer.
On any other day, it wouldn't have had a chance. Today – right after I had my luggage wrecked, while I'm still jetlagged, and after days of dealing with my airline's terrible outsource partner – it almost worked.
So much fraud is a Swiss-cheese attack, and while companies can't close all the holes, they can stop creating new ones.
Meanwhile, I'll continue to post about it whenever I get scammed. I find the inner workings of scams to be fascinating, and it's also important to remind people that everyone is vulnerable sometimes, and scammers are willing to try endless variations until an attack lands at just the right place, at just the right time, in just the right way. If you think you can't get scammed, that makes you especially vulnerable:

Some of my favorite, understated moments with heartbreaking implications for Halsin
1. Halsin threatening to turn into a mouse in the epilogue if the player brags about his achievements- he's so shy and humble that just being acknowledged for LITERALLY BUILDING A COMMUNE HIMSELF makes him want to hide. A mouse is a very symbolic choice here: not only easy to hide, but also easily overlooked and forgotten. The idea of his accomplishments being acknowledged is so terrifying for him that he wants to turn into an animal no one will notice, instead of his usual strong, large, noticeable bear.
2. "Sometimes, I think people look at me and imagine my feelings can't be hurt." This isn't the kind of thing that happens after one or two people act like jerks. This is years and years of cruel treatment, of his emotions being demeaned and mocked because of his size. Of people judging him before even meeting him- and forming an entirely wrong view of him. Halsin is a bighearted, tender, sentimental man, yet because he's big... Well, big people don't have feelings, surely. /s
3. "You and I may struggle to go unnoticed in such environs, Karlach[...] Folk of our stature can be a lure for drunkards seeking a brawl, I have found," combined with, "There is a particular discomfort to besting one you know to be weaker than yourself - even when needs must," from a different scene. People have sought him out and fought him because of his size (which had to have been terrifying, especially the first time), and he feels guilty when he takes out someone he knows is weaker, even if they STARTED it. How many times has the poor guy been traveling and then had to defend himself against someone 1/2 his size, making HIM look like the asshole to onlookers, and reinforcing that whole "people think I can't be hurt" thing?
4. "It was always destined to be so, if we prevailed. But the foreknowledge makes it no less bittersweet..." (About the players' paths diverging post brain battle), combined with "I see... After all my years of living, I know all too well that nothing lasts forever. Yet a parting can sting, nonetheless," if the player breaks up with him in the ending. This poor guy was having the time of his life adventuring with the group (and possibly falling in love there) yet never believed it would truly last (because of his abandonment issues). And then to have it confirmed.... he must have felt so awful in that moment, even if he was being dignified about it.
5. "You came for me... thank you. I feared Orin's accursed smile would be the very last sight I beheld," when Halsin is freed from Orin, combined with, "Orin's blades. I hoped my friends would save me..." If he is killed by Orin instead and Speak With the Dead is used on his corpse. The tone of his voice in the first line, especially added to that bit in the second... he never thought the player was coming to save him. He HOPED they would. Not "believed". Hoped. He thought he was going to die there- just like how he was in the Underdark for THREE YEARS and no one came to save him. And if it's confirmed... Yeah. That. (Sidenote: if you ask his corpse if he has any regrets, he says not telling Thaniel and Oliver goodbye, and not getting to see their land flourish. :( My heart. :( )
6. "I... have not had true confidantes for some time. The Shadow Curse robbed me of almost all my peers, and replaced them with the weight of responsibility. Perhaps that caused me to gild undeserving memories of my youth." Halsin was so miserable and stressed being Archdruid that he romanticized his past as a sex slave, viewing it as a safer, even happier alternative. There were actually times when Halsin thought he might rather be a sex slave than continue to be Archdruid. In a sense, for the 100 years the Shadow Curse was around, Halsin was just as much a prisoner as Thaniel was in the Shadowfell, but Halsin's prison had invisible bars. The Shadow Curse took away his entire support system, and being Archdruid forced him to be the strong one, always, never allowed to be weak or scared, forced him to take control of situations when he hated it, forced him to spend his time sorting out people instead of being in nature. And he was MISERABLE. For 100 years.
7. "You understand me almost perfectly. Only my late mother may have bested you." (Said if you get one question wrong at the love dryad test). He misses his mama. :( Especially when you consider that if you steal Balthazar's "Mother Dearest" and taunt him about it, Halsin disapproves (and is the only one to do so), while returning her gets you approval (which only Halsin approves of). And then the line when you look into a mirror while controlling him, "more like my father, with each passing day..." He really misses them. :(
8. "I am loathe to see anyone behind bars. It reminds me of my time as a guest of the goblins." He is, secretly, still quite traumatized from his time in the goblin pens, but he brushes it off. Just like every OTHER time he is hurt.
9. "I am aware [of having a habit of getting captured]. Perhaps I put too much faith in my skills of negotiation, or want to see good where there is none. It would be easy to resort to nature's fury whenever something stood in my way, yet I cannot help but feel I would be sullying the Oak Father's gifts. Naive perhaps... but I still draw breath." Halsin is aware he gets hurt often because of his desire to see good in people until he has no other choice, but refuses to give up anyway (which is backed up by that letter Gut had on her where she reveals Halsin TRIED to help the goblins, saying he could cure them of their tadpoles, only to be thrown in the cage, with Gut threatening to have his stomach cut open and maggots placed inside it.) Further, even though he is an Archdruid, and one of the most devoted, and explicitly has Silvanus's favor (Halsin says that gaining his favor was the only way he was able to open the portal to the Shadowfell), he still constantly worries about using Silvanus's powers, to the point of wondering if an actual threat to his safety actually merits using his powers. Which... combined with some other stuff, reads like one hell of a problem with self-worth.
10. "At least you were not present. Grim as [the ruined battlefield] is now, it was worse on the day of the battle. A vivid wound upon my memory[...] I was lucky - I lived, when so many did not. It would take me a day and a night to recite the names of all the friends I lost" combined with, "I was [present when the Shadow Curse was unleashed]. Part of my spirit was shorn away from me here, and never left," and, if Last Light falls, "All gone... devoured by the shadows. Oak Father preserve us, it's just like a hundred years ago[...] We are [still standing]. Yet there is a burden to being the survivor... the witness to others' tragedies. It only grows heavier with time." He has so much PTSD and survivor guilt from the Shadow Curse. :( No wonder it's all he can think about- to the point that some of the other companions even get annoyed at him for his obsession.
11. "I never quite realised how burdened I was, until I met you. The threat of the shadow curse, the politics of the grove... I was forgetting who I was, but you lifted the fog. Thank you." Not only does this tie in with the above, with his PTSD from the curse and his utter misery at being Archdruid, but this HEAVILY implies Halsin had depression. Like... that "fog" line hits HARD if you have or have had depression, because that's exactly what it feels like. And the "forgetting who I was" bit too. Not just losing his sense of self to the depression, but to the neverending responsibilities of being Archdruid. I keep repeating myself, but damn, this guy has really and truly spent an entire century being absolutely MISERABLE. :(
12. "Forgive me. I... lost the run of myself. Sometimes, if blood runs hot enough, it's difficult to tame the beast." With that little disgusted groan/sigh, the fury and disgust at himself visible on his face, and the way he rushes to get out the rest of it- he thinks he fucked up so badly that you're about to leave him, maybe forever. And then if you reject him after this? "Ah... I see. Well, of course. Back to camp then." He has the most heartbroken look on his face here, and the way he says "of course" like he just... knew this was coming the instant he accidentally wildshaped. He felt that the first time he let ANY of his imperfections show, the player would leave him. :(
13. "Death is nature's final slumber - it awaits us all. Do not punish yourself over those lost, or give in to despair - not while there are still folk in need of your help." (Said to a Dark Urge if they tell him they're not much of a hero and most people needing them end up dead) Not only is Halsin speaking from experience here, but it's very clear he is STILL doing exactly what he tells Durge not to do, to himself- punishing himself over those who were lost, struggling with devastating survivor guilt.
14. "The grove has cut itself off from the world, to jealously guard its own little pocket of nature. No one shall ever enter or leave again. And I have been evicted from the very place I was charged to safeguard. A telling summary of my time as Archdruid, perhaps..." If the Grove is sealed and you ask him about it later, this is what he says. Interesting that he views being evicted from the place he was in charge of protecting to be a "telling summary." He was forced to take the leadership role there, and yet it was clear he wasn't wanted or respected by a great number of the Druids (exempting Nettie, Rath, and Apikusis). He got a truly thankless job that took damn near EVERYTHING from him emotionally/mentally, causing him to develop depression and causing him to backslide in his previous healing from his trauma from his time as a sex slave, he still gave EVERYTHING to the Grove, and in return...... almost none of his Druids appreciated or even liked him. (I could seriously write at least five metas about how obviously miserable Halsin was at the Grove, despite caring for it deeply).
15. "You could have done anything, gone with anyone... yet you chose me." Said at the epilogue to a solo romanced player who went to the commune with him. There's so many layers of heartbreak here. He is still surprised, six months later, that the player chose him. He even thinks the player will regret it, and will decide they want an adventurer's life after all after seeing everyone else. He doesn't think he is good enough- doesn't think he deserves the player, and yet at the same time he loves them so much that he is heartbroken over the possibility they might agree with him. He thinks that given a chance, there is little chance they would actually choose him again. (He is put at ease quickly when the player promises they picked him for a reason, but even the explanation he gives for why he was so worrie is heartbreaking- that he's so used to a tumultuous life that he thinks something must go wrong. He has been so traumatized so many times over the years that he just has almost no ability to think that true happiness is possible [or deserved] for him.) Something about that is just heartbreaking, even though his ending is one of the happiest of any of the companions.
Someone give this sweet bear man a hug, please :(

Looking for a saucy medieval tradition to weave into your historical romances? Have no fear, foot-of-the-gallows marriage is here! Basically, if a man was about to be hanged and a woman stepped forward and said “I will marry this man!” he was spared because it was was seen as like “oh, she’ll rehabilitate him so we don’t have to kill him.” Now, I heard this from tiktok, so I could be wrong, and it could just be a folk tale or something that rarely happened in actuality. Either way, it’s a cool troupe I think more people should use (and I myself will be using). I think it would work really well with Orcs and Elves!
This is such an intriguing idea! I had to try it. If you end up writing it, tag me, if you are comfortable! I'd love to see what you do with it ^_^
I keep getting Orc ideas, and I can't resist them *feral invasive Orc thoughts* ( ̄ w ̄)Ψ

“Goodness, what’s this all about?” you grumbled, clutching your basket closer to you as you made your way through the crowd.
The stench of rotten vegetables and too many people lingered in the air.
“It’s a hanging,” a helpful imp beamed, hopping on his tiptoes to see over the crowd. Why people gathered all around to watch someone die, you had no idea, but more importantly, the crowd was blocking your path home. Industrious vendors selling ale and popcorn wove through the throng to collect what coins they could from the event. In the capital, everyone had a hustle, and few left the chance to make some money at the table.
“Out of the way!” You shouted, shouldering whoever was unlucky enough to be in your way.
The voice of the city guardsman who was reading off a list of offenses to the crowd drowned yours out, but with a few well-placed shoves, you managed to make it to the front. You were looking around, trying to figure out how to get across the plaza, when you glanced up to see a familiar face.
“It’s you!” you blurted as your eyes locked with the brilliant chartreuse irises of the Orc standing on the gallows.
He gave you a wan smile, lifting his tied hands to wave at you. His straight nose was up in the air as if all the rabble around him should be fortunate to have the privilege of watching him die. The thick olive locs you remembered being long had been roughly chopped short around his ears. Still, even dressed in an ill-fitting prison jumpsuit, he had a regal air about him. His barrel chest was puffed, strong muscles peaking between the frayed fabric.
“Fifty counts of robbery…25 counts of counterfeiting gold coins…seven counts of horse theft…”
The Orc you’d met before’s name was Saber. He’d helped you get your broken cart into town one rainy afternoon…, and then he’d also stolen your necklace, which you’d realized after he’d disappeared.
“As per the King’s edict, If any citizen pledges to save this soul from the gallows by way of marriage, please step forth.”
Though he was handsome, no one raised their hands to save him. Instead, they all booed. Judging by the rotten vegetables hurled at him, he seemed to have robbed almost everyone in the capital.
“Aye!” you shouted, hiking up your pants to pull yourself onto the stage.
The guardsmen’s eyebrows shot up when you’d straightened yourself.
“I’ll marry the sorry bastard.”
“Are you sure? He’ll most likely rob you and run off. He’s better off dead.”
“I have business with this one,” you informed him, snapping your fingers. “Come on then. Let’s get this over with.”
The guardsman shrugged and jerked the noose off of his neck, a little disappointed. The crowd wasn’t happy either, hurling insults along with their vegetables.
“Quiet! Quiet!” the guardsman shouted after shoving Saber forward for the “ceremony.”
He took a deep breath, jerking a notebook out of his pocket.
“Alright,” he began, snorting. “State your name for the record.”
“(Y/N).”
“Lovely elven name,” he murmured as he jotted it down. “Now then, do you (Y/N) take this here, criminal, Saber Wintermaple to be your lawfully wedded husband?”
You gave him a sharp nod.
“I do.”
He swung a lazy eye at Saber.
“Do you Saber Wintermaple, take this kind elf to be your betrothed?”
He gave you a bright smile.
“I do.”
The guardsman snapped the book closed, shoving Saber towards you.
“I hereby declare you two duly betrothed under the King’s law. This Orc is your problem now, citizen. You’d better keep him out of trouble, or you’ll be up here next to him!”
He handed you the thick rope looped around the binding, keeping Saber’s hands tied, and waved you two off. The audience, bored without bloodshed, had already started dispersing, making it easy for you to tug Saber towards the road leading to the forest.
“I didn’t know I made such a pleasant impression,” Saber said cheerfully, following you out of town.
You whirled around and jammed a finger in his face.
“I wouldn’t describe it as pleasant. You owe me a gold necklace! Give it back, or you can work off the coin you owe me!”
He chuckled.
“I’m fresh out of coins, little elf.”
He scratched his chin and looked up, thinking.
“I’m pretty sure I lost that necklace in a game of dice.”
He shrugged.
“You lost my only possession of any value in a game of dice?”
You scrubbed your hand over your face, counting back from ten so you didn’t explode.
“Maybe I should have let you die.”
Frowning, you looked over him from toe to head.
“At least you look strong enough. I’m sure I can find something useful for you to do!”
You stopped where the two of you stood in the middle of the trail and pulled a small charm from your basket.
“I was going to use this on my coin purse since there was a thief on the loose, but it’s probably better applied to you!”
You looped the charm around his neck, closing your eyes to whisper the spell. A gust of spirit wind, fluffed your hair as the magic twirled around Saber. When you opened your eyes again, there was a blue thread linking the two of you that only you could see.
“What was that?” he asked, narrowing his eyes on you.
“It’s a binding spell, so you can’t run off with my stuff again,” you explained.
His eyebrows jumped, and he tugged at the little talisman around his neck.
“It won’t come off.”
You nodded proudly.
“Exactly.”
He took a moment to examine you carefully, tapping his chin again.
“Interesting,” he murmured.
“What? What does that mean?”
He smiled and shrugged.
“Lead the way, spouse.”
You sighed, turning and pulling him through the bumpy trail in the woods to your little home. When you’d fled your homeland to the Capital, you’d been lucky to find an abandoned cottage outside the city walls. It wasn’t massive, with only the basic living quarters, but it must have at some point belonged to someone’s Saber’s size, as the door and counters were much too high. You’d spent much of the money you earned selling charms and ointments, buying stools and ladders to reach things.
“You poor thing,” Saber sighed as you passed through the magic barrier you’d cast to keep your home hidden from bandits.
“You don’t need to patronize me,” you huffed. “You’re the one almost hanged and run out of town.”
He ignored you, looking around.
“I feel kind of bad for stealing your necklace now that I’ve seen where you live. This place is a mess.”
You examined your home, trying to see it through his eyes. Every available surface was covered in books, alchemy equipment, or ingredients. Even the chairs were covered in cast-off scrolls, books, or charms.
“It’d be nice to have a workshop,” you admitted. “But that’s much too expensive.”
You straightened your slumping shoulders and lifted your chin.
“No matter, you won’t be spending much time sitting down. I’ve got loads of things that need doing.”
He gave you a sharp nod and held out his hands.
“You’ll have to untie me if you want me to work.”
Pulling a small blade from your basket, you sawed through the thick binding. Free to move as he pleased, he wrung his stiff wrists as he perused your living room. Occasionally he would pick something up, then put it down again, finally crouching to examine a bucket filled with water.
“What are you doing?”
He peered up at the leak in the roof that was letting rainwater drip through.
“This needs fixing, or the roof will rot out.”
Pushing off of his knees, he turned to you.
“How long have you been living alone?”
You blushed, embarrassed.
“I dunno, my whole life, I guess. The elven town where I came from didn’t have an orphanage or anything, so when I was old enough, I took off toward the capital. It took a while to get here…but here I am. I thought there would be more…I don’t know…opportunity here.”
“How has that worked out for you? Living in a house clearly not meant for you and marrying a man on the gallows.”
You gave him an indignant snuff.
“At least I’m not a thief!”
He chuckled, leaning against a bookshelf, rolling a gold coin on his knuckles. Your eyes narrowed on it, and you reached in your pocket to find you’d been relieved of your day’s earnings.
“Hey! You stole that!”
He laughed, revealing straight white teeth, and jingled the other coins in his pocket.
“Don’t worry, I can’t get away with it, right?”
You sucked in a deep annoyed breath.
“I have things to do. Make yourself useful and chop some wood. It’s going to be cold when the sun sets.”
“Whatever you say, spouse,” he replied, giving you a sarcastic salute as you dropped your basket and hurried to the kitchen to get started on dinner.
What had you been thinking marrying a criminal? You paused for a moment, eyes growing misty. You didn’t really think he still had your necklace, did you? You let out a sigh just short of a sob. Were you really that lonely? Maybe it hurt that he’d been so kind to you, just to trick you. You should have been happy to see him hanged, yet the lingering magic that followed all elves had whispered that you ought to save him.
But why? You weren’t in any position to support a husband. Though you’d instructed yourself on the knowledge of various potions and charms, you weren’t the only one. The city was teaming with Academy-bred alchemists who far surpassed your skill. They had access to rare ingredients and an army of assistants. You had to scrape out a living selling your wares far cheaper than the competition even to get noticed at the market. Hustling day to day, you certainly didn’t have the time or money to pretty yourself up to find a partner.
“Stupid, stupid, stupid,” you grumbled, returning to chopping tubers for soup.
A thick THWACK, drew your eyes out the kitchen window to Saber splitting logs across the lawn. He’d divested himself of his ratty shirt, and every thick muscle was on display as he lifted the ax over his head and dropped it down again. The logs felt apart like they were nothing more than twigs under his might.
Your eye focused on the dark, wet slashes across his shoulder blades where his jailors had beaten him. He must have felt your eyes on him because he glanced up and waved. Blushing, you hurriedly pulled the curtains, returning to your task.
Unable to get his injuries out of your mind, you felt bad for making him chop wood while he was hurt. When you’d plopped the tubers into your cooking pot, you gathered up some healing and numbing salves, making your way out the door.
“Need something?” he asked, looking up from his task.
“Sit down,” you barked.
A thick eyebrow rose, and he tipped his head.
“Why? Planning on lobbing my head off?”
You wrinkled your nose at him.
“No, of course not! You’re massive. How would I even go about burying your body? I can’t have a rotting corpse stinking up the place. Just sit!”
He leaned his axe against the stump he was using to brace the wood and sat down on it. You dug in your basket, pulling out some cleanser to clean the wounds. Beside the big ugly gashes, Saber’s skin was a smooth, pretty green, the planes of his muscles sharp and defined. The first brush of your hand on his back made him jump.
“S-sorry,” you muttered.
“‘Ts fine. Just not used to people touching me. Go on.”
You spread the thick gel you used carefully over each angry line.
“What do you mean? You’ve never had a partner before me?”
He paused for a moment before he jerked his head.
“I had a girlfriend once, but she left me.”
“Why?”
“Some noble offered her his hand and well…I couldn’t compete.”
He sighed.
“She was happy to keep me on as her side piece, but I’ve got too much of an ego to be someone’s toy.”
Your eyebrows jumped at his candor, but you just hummed, plastering clean wraps to his skin so the wounds could heal. His skin was warm under your fingers, making the tips tingle. When you were done, you found yourself tipping forward on your toes to peck the back of his neck. When you’d realized what you’d done, your ears burned, and you coughed loudly.
“Sorry, ah…sorry,” you muttered, unsure what to say. “You’re…ah…going to have to sleep on your stomach, so you don’t make these worse.”
He swiveled around to look at you, smiling.
“Thanks, doc!”
“I’m not a doctor.”
He shrugged.
“What’s the difference?”
“Ten years of special-”
You shook your head, realizing he was teasing you.
“I think that’s enough wood for tonight. Come inside. Dinner’s almost ready.”
He grinned at you, his stomach grumbling, as he scooped up some of the wood he’d cut and tucked it under one arm. You wondered how much they let him eat in prison, worried he was starving.
“What’d my sweet little spouse cook for me?” he asked.
“Just some sweet potato soup. It’s not gourmet.”
He frowned.
“No meat?”
You blinked at him.
“You have all the money I made today in your pocket. How can I afford meat with those few coins?”
He nodded, appearing to be thinking through the problem thoroughly.
When you returned inside, you dipped the two of you bowls of soup, filling his twice as much as yours. You assured yourself it was because he couldn’t work without proper nutrition, not because you liked him.
“So how far does this magic thingie let me go?” he asked as you sat down at the table.
“Why, trying to run off?”
He smirked.
“No, why would I want to run away from you?”
He chewed on a big spoonful of sweet potatoes before he continued.
“I’ve got a cute little spouse who makes me dinner and kisses my cuts.”
Your cheeks blew up in flames, and you choked on a mouthful of soup. You tried to retain your composure by quickly wiping your mouth with a napkin.
“A couple of miles in any direction.”
“Wow, didn’t think you’d give me such a long leash.”
You shrugged.
“I can’t be right at your side every minute.”
He gave you the biggest puppy dog eyes you’d ever seen.
“You don’t want me by your side every minute of the day?”
Unsure if he was joking or not, you jerked your spoon at his soup.
“Let’s…stop talking for a while. Eat up. You’ll need your strength.”
While the two of you ate quietly, you did your best to keep your eyes on your bowl. Every time you happened to glance up, he was watching you with an odd smile on his face. Almost like satisfaction.
You were relieved when you finally finished and could turn your back on him to rinse the dishes.
“You can take the bed if you want,” you called over your shoulder as you stood on your tip toes to return the bowls to the cabinet. As your arm stretched, Saber appeared behind you, plucking the dishes out of your hand and easily placing them where they were supposed to go.
“Where are you going to sleep?” he asked, extending a hand to help you off of the little ladder you were perched on.
“There’s a couch in the living room.”
He wrinkled his nose.
“It’s covered in stuff.”
You shrugged, trying to hurry past him.
“I’ll clean it up.”
You found your feet swinging in the air as he picked you up and tossed you over his shoulder.
“Wh-what are you doing?”
“My spouse is not sleeping on the sofa. I never thought I’d have a spouse, so I’ve got to take proper care of you.”
He patted your butt for emphasis.
“Are you crazy?” you snapped, only not banging on his back with your fists because he was injured. “We can’t sleep together! We just met!”
Your body bounced on his shoulder as he chuckled.
“You weren’t concerned with that when you insisted on marrying me!”
“They were going to kill you!”
He flopped you down on your bed, caging you in with his big arms. His head dipped to drag the tip of his nose along the length of your neck.
“So you do like me!” he whispered into your skin.
“I do not,” you huffed, pushing his chest.
Though your muscles did nothing to move him, he rose so you could scoot out across the bed. You quickly scrambled into the bathroom to change into your pajamas.
When you came back out, Saber was slipping off his pants.
“What are you doing now?” You gasped, cheeks heating at the sight of the thick shaft hanging between his legs.
He glanced up, a slight smirk on his face as he folded his clothes.
“I can't sleep in these prison clothes. I'll get the sheets all dirty!”
You sighed, rubbing your eyes. He was right. He was filthy from sleeping on dirty straw in prison.
“Come on,” you said, flicking two fingers at him. “You need a bath. You’re probably covered in fleas!
Fortunately, your house came equipped with one large enough to fit Saber’s big body. With a flick of your fingers, the tub was filled, and with a few whispers of a spell, the water was hot.
“Get in,” you said.
Making himself comfortable, he looked back at you over his shoulder, an eyebrow raised.
“You tryin’ to watch? Naughty little elf!”
You let out a long sigh.
“No, I’m just going to ensure you don’t get your bandages wet, or it will all have been a waste. Supplies are expensive,” you huffed, picking up the sponge. “Now, sit still!”
Saber smirked but let you lift each of his arms as you scrubbed him.
“So how did your old girlfriend take it when you decided you wouldn’t be your affair partner?”
He glanced at you, eyes ever thoughtful. His long look brought heat to your cheeks.
“Sorry, you don’t have to answer that.”
He shrugged, his jaw tightening.
“She was rather smug. She spent her whole life wishing to elevate herself.”
A long sigh slipped past his lips.
“I could never make her happy. I lied, cheated, stole; whatever I could do…but she looked down her nose at all of it.”
Your mouth fell open.
“I’m…I’m sorry. You don’t have to…”
He waved a thick hand, his warm palm gently landing on your head and lightly ruffling your hair.
“Think nothing of it. It’s kind of nice to get it off my chest.”
“So that’s why you're a crook? To make her happy?”
He smirked.
“I was a crook. Now I’m a married man. I can’t get into trouble. I have a spouse who relies on me.”
He pinched your chin.
“Prison was difficult enough without knowing I was missing out on such a cute little face. Now, it would crush me.”
Your cheeks burned even hotter, and you jerked your head away, grabbing the nearest towel and tossing it to him.
“Careful, don’t jostle your bandages,” you wheezed before making your escape. “Whoever lived here before left some clothes in the chest by the door. They ought to fit.”
You were so busy slowing your beating heart that you blew out the lantern and slid into your bed without thinking Saber would soon follow. You squeezed your eyes shut, trying to feign sleep, when you heard his heavy footsteps approach. He paused for a moment, doing Goddess knows what, before he carefully laid down next to you.
The mattress dipped under his weight, and your body slid into his. You heard him draw in a sharp breath as your warm forms pressed together.
“Mind your wounds. Make sure you sleep on your side,” you whispered into the darkness.
You felt him adjust slightly, and then a heavy arm draped over your waist. Despite yourself, it was warm and the weight felt nice. Comforting. Now that he’d used your soap, he smelled like home. His breath brushed the hairs on your neck and another arm slid underneath you to use as a pillow. You would have pulled away, but you’d never slept so close to someone before.
Living on the street for most of your life, left you with scars. You didn’t realize how deep they’d cut you until Saber’s large body curled around yours. You felt safe.
When you woke the next morning, the bed next to you was empty. Your heart thumped heavily in your chest, wondering where he’d gone. Had it all been a dream?
The pile of dirty prison clothes folded and placed on top of a chest proved that it had not.
Breathing slowly, in the meditation you’d taught yourself, you stretched your awareness out, reaching for the blue thread. Saber was half a mile from you. You wondered what he could possibly be doing.
“Orc things, probably,” you muttered, making your way to the bathroom to clean yourself up.
It wasn’t like he could run off; there was nothing in that direction but trees. Through the window, you could see the sun up over the tree line, telling you that you’d slept much later than usual.
Usually, you’d have left at sunrise to sell your wares in the Capital market, but it was far too late now. Instead, you grabbed an apple from the kitchen and started fussing with your alchemy materials. Now that Saber was living with you, you were sure you needed to straighten up so he didn’t break something.
Walking across the room, you automatically skipped around the bucket on the floor; only the bucket was gone. You frowned, but looking at the ceiling, someone had replaced one of the boards with a fresh one. Had Saber done that while you were sleeping?
You huffed, returning to straightening your books. At least he’s putting himself to work.
You were trying to remember the order in which a pair of books written in ancient elven were arranged alphabetically when the bell above your door jingled.
Since your home was hidden with magic, the bell told you someone was nearby. It was a charm you rarely used. No one had any reason to look for you. The most it had rung was when you ordered a special cauldron or tomb and happened to have the cash to have it delivered.
Curious if a traveler was lost, you put your books down and wandered outside.
“Morning, spouse!”
Saber’s voice made you jump when he appeared hauling a deer on his shoulders.
“What’s that?”
He shrugged the creature off of his shoulders.
“Meat!” he announced proudly.
You nodded at him, your eyes catching on his bare chest, glazed with a sheen of sweat.
“Where are you off to?” he asked.
“Someone is here,” you murmured, forcing your gaze from the sharp planes of his muscles to continue down the path.
A shadow draped over you, and you glanced up to see him looming.
“What are you doing?”
“I’m going with you. It could be someone dangerous.”
You shook your head but continued on your way with him in tow.
“Helloooo? Helllloooo?”
A female voice was screaming through the trees. When you rounded the bend, your eyes landed on an expensive carriage and a beautiful fairy shouting at the top of her lungs.  Her pink hair fell in glittering curls around her shoulders, and matching wings emerged from her back.
“Damn it! Saber! Where the fuck are you?”
“Can I help you?” you asked as you stepped through your magic barrier.
Her eyes narrowed, but not on you. She looked directly behind you.
“Saber! There you are!”
She grinned, fluttering her winds and flying past you. Irritation immediately pricked your heart as the woman threw her arms around him. Turning around, you found him looking at her with wide eyes.
“Melody…what are you doing here? How did you find me?”
“I’m here to see you, of course. I heard you were going to be hung, but an elf saved you! I asked around the market and was told you’d been taken here. I was so worried!”
When she cupped his chin with her delicate hand, you crossed your arms, eyes narrowing.
“Not someone. Me.” you interjected.
You marched towards Saber and grabbed him by the arm.
“Saber is my husband. Who are you?”
She wrinkled her nose at you, ignoring your question. Her hand slid down Saber’s chest despite you.
“Is there someplace we can talk? Privately?”
Saber’s shocked face tightened.
“I don’t think that’s an appropriate ask in front of my spouse, Melody.”
She scoffed.
“You’ve been married…what? 8 hours? Saber, I think I more than deserve a little of your time. Especially as the mother of your child.”
Your jaw dropped, and your hand pulled away from Saber. It was true, you’d only known him for a few hours, but a child was something he ought to have mentioned.
His brow drew, looking between you and her.
“What child?”
She huffed, frowning at you.
“Fine…If you must do this, this way.”
She turned to the carriage and yelled.
“Nora, bring the baby!”
A maid climbed out of the carriage holding a small whimpering bundle. You gasped as the woman presented Saber with a little green newborn.
Saber’s eyes popped, his mouth opening and closing as the maid pressed the child into his hands.
“This…he…is mine?”
Melody nodded.
“Yes, and it’s time for you to take responsibility.”
He glanced up at her.
“You want to get back together?”
She let out a cruel but trilling laugh.
“Oh heavens no. I need you to take him. Dante hasn’t seen him yet. He thinks I’ve delivered his child. I had the maids tell him I was recovering for the past month so I could sneak him out. If he finds out I’ve been carrying your baby this whole time, he’ll throw me out on the street!”
Anger roiled under your skin.
“So what baby are you going to present to him?” you demanded.
She snorted as if that were a foolish question.
“I’ll get a baby from the slums. Plenty of mothers would happily give their child the life of a Lord’s son without question.”
She fluttered her iridescent wings.
“It only need be a fairy child.”
You could see the pain and confusion settle on Saber’s face. Stepping between the two of them, you gently pried the bundle out of Saber’s hands, looking at his cute little button nose and glossy baby curls.
“Of course, we will take him, but on one condition.”
She glanced at you.
“What do you want? Money?”
You let out a tight chuff.
“No. We never want to see you again. If he is our baby, he is ours. Don’t think you can change your mind and come running back here looking for him or Saber. The second you step foot in your carriage, this child and my husband are dead to you.”
Her eyes jerked to Saber.
“Saber. You can’t mean that. Of course, I want to see you…Dante, however, can’t know. You understand, don't you? This is everything we've dreamed about! You ought to support me!"
You scoffed, rolling your eyes.
"I grew up in the gutter, too," you hissed. "But I'd never treat someone the way you have treated my husband. He is too good for you and I won't tolerate you buzzing around us like a nasty fly."
She glared at you.
"He's my child! You're just jealous Saber and I have history!"
Saber's jaw locked, and he put his arm around you, giving her a disgusted grimace.
“Have you named him?” he asked.
She looked contrite but lifted her chin.
“I…ah…it didn’t occur to me...”
He nodded and glanced down at you, holding his child.
“Then…I agree with (Y/N). You’ll never know his name. You’ll never see him grow. You’ll never return to ruin our peace.”
“But Saber-”
“Don’t say my husband’s name, either.” you snapped. “You thought you’d come here and drop all of your responsibilities in his lap and then keep stringing him along as a toy? It’s not going to work like that. You have your family, and we have ours.”
You jerked your chin at her.
“Make your choice. Either leave the child or be prepared to explain to your husband who he belongs to. Those are the only options.”
Her pretty face contorted into an ugly, wrinkled mask, and she lifted her skirt to turn on her heels.
“Fine! It’s not like I want the child of a thief anyway!”
Snapping at her maid, she hovered back to her carriage, and they disappeared down the road in a cloud of dust. You smiled down at the little baby, who’d managed to sleep through the drama.
“Saber, I know I shouldn’t have spoken for you…I just- He deserves better than to grow up with the knowledge his mother believes him to be less than. Can you imagine him living as her secret? Sneaking around to hide him? If she passed him in the street, she’d ignore him to preserve her status. He’d be heartbroken. I won’t let that happen. I hope I didn’t overstep, but I’m not sorry for it.”
He dropped to his knees, eyes wet, and pushed his head into your shoulder. His big arms wrapped around your waist, squeezing you tight.
“You said just the right thing,” he murmured, then turned his head to look at his son. “What should we name him?”
You smiled at him.
“Let’s talk it over over lunch.”
The two of you walked back down the path together, both having a hard time keeping your gaze off the baby. He wriggled in his sleep, making you both see hearts.
“Maybe we should move,” you murmured. “Just to be sure…and to give him a fresh start.”
He looked down at you.
“You won’t miss this place?”
You sighed.
“No…this is just a house. We have a family now. He should grow up in a happy little town, not the capital…we’ll have to save for a few months, but I think we can do it.”
“We don’t have to save. I have plenty of money.”
You froze in your tracks, looking up at him.
“What? I thought you said you were broke?”
He smiled down at you.
“I meant I didn't have any coin on me. I didn’t just piss all of my ill-gotten gains away. I hid them. Follow me.”
He tugged the two of you into the forest, walking quite a ways until you reached an oddly placed rock. Saber crouched down and uprooted a bush with a stiff jerk. Then he cleared the soil away, revealing a wooden chest. He turned the little dial a few ways until it clicked, and the chest opened with a creak. Your eyes widened at the hundreds of gold coins piled inside. He casually tugged the gold he’d lifted from you out of his pocket and tossed it inside with a metallic clink.
“I think we can buy a nice place with this.”
You were still completely confused. He rummaged around in the coins, producing the gold necklace he’d stolen. Standing, he fastened it around your neck with the nimble fingers of a thief.
“I thought you lost it gambling?”
He shrugged.
“I lied.”
“Why did you keep it?”
He gave you a long look.
“I’m not sure, to be honest. Something told me not to sell it.”
“But…what about the rest? I thought you gave it all to Melody?”
“I tried to…we grew up in the capital, in the same slums she wants to buy a baby from. It wasn’t ever about what I could provide her. She wanted to erase her past. She wanted a title…to be a lady, to be able to lift her nose at the very people she grew up with.
I started saving after she failed at her first attempt at seducing some highborn. At the time, I had this romantic dream that I could surprise her with a big house, start a business, and be the Lord she wanted so badly…but… as time passed, I realized I was already tainted in her eyes. She wanted the right blood attached to her money. It took me too long to be ready to pull away. Dante was the nail in the coffin, so to speak.”
He tugged the chest from the ground, hauling it onto his shoulder before leading you back through the forest.
“Even though I knew I wasn’t enough…I foolishly still loved her. I was a mess when he proposed. That’s why I got caught. I went on a bender that lasted most of a year…Fortunately, I never touched this. Maybe I held out hope since Melody still entertained my attention…but I got sloppy and ended up in jail.”
His gaze dropped to the baby.
“If it weren’t for you, I wouldn't have ever known about him. Anything could have happened to him if you hadn’t-”
He choked a bit, a couple of tears slipping down his cheek. You didn’t push him to finish his sentence. You knew what he was trying to say.
“What about Arel?” you asked.
“Arel? That sounds like an Elvin name.”
You smiled at the little baby’s chubby cheeks.
“It is…it means ‘treasure’.”
He stopped, bending down to examine his son more closely. The baby’s eyes opened, and you saw that they were the same pretty chartreuse as his father’s. The two of them looked at one another in awe.
“I like Arel,” he said, brushing a thick finger over his cheek.
Arel’s big eyes grew wet, and he started to croon.
Shock and worry bloomed on Saber’s face.
“Is he okay?”
“I think he’s hungry. I have some goat milk at home.”
Saber straightened, and you had to almost jog to keep up with him, the two of you hurrying home to start your life as a family.

A Day Off at Miguel's🥗📺💜
Miguel O'Hara x Fem reader
Tumblr media
A/N: my 300 follower celebration blurb I just typed up impromptu. Sorry if it's a little messy. Just the classic, your boyfriend is an ahole and Miguel is your shoulder to cry on comfort vibes. ;) I got carried away. Word count 2.4k
TW: a little angst, cheating, some violence/threats nothing too graphic, your ex is mean and Miguel handles him for you, other than that just fluff.
------
You stared down at the sidewalk with your hands on your knees, hyperventilating, a sick feeling pooling in your stomach which you surely thought would spill itself onto the street. You wanted to break something. You wanted to fight somebody. Your no-good, lying, cheating hoe ass boyfriend, or the skank he had in YOUR bed with him when you unfortunately walked into the scene of the crime. Maybe both? Definitely both. You don't even know anymore.
I'm gonna quit my job, leave the state, change my name. I'm so over everything and everyone... nobody's there for me... fuck, let me call Daniela...
*Ring* *Ring* .....
c'mon girl pick up, I know you have no service in your cabin in Switzerland with your sugar daddy but I need you right now....
*Ring*...... You have reached the voicemail box of...
FUCK
You try so hard not to throw your phone, but then you get an idea. Maybe Miguel? No, no way..he's your co worker...not going to lie, the tension was there, but you kept it short with him because you had a boyfriend. He had been your mission partner for about 6 months now, you came in to fill in for Jess when she went on maternity leave. He was really grumpy at first, but he slowly let his guard down when he saw how kind you were.
Even the times when he snapped at you, you just responded in a calm voice, giving him a smile. On Valentine's when you found out he was going to be alone, you bought him a heart filled with chocolates, some teriyaki flavored beef jerky, and a little teddy bear who had a sticky note in his paw that said, "From your secret admirer." He recognized your handwriting anyway from all the paperwork he did. He didn't have the courage to ask you about it. He became softer, feeling bad for when he was harsh with you.
There was a time when you both got done beating the crap out of another Vulture that was terrorizing folks at the DMV that you turned and looked at him and already caught him staring. But for the first time you didn't look away. Miguel turned a deep red and cleared his throat. "Do you...um..are you hungry? We could get lunch after this?"
Your heart fluttered for a moment but you remembered that you had a boyfriend back home. If he went out on a lunch date you knew you'd feel a little jealous too.
"Oh...um..." Shit shit shit.
"I have to meet my boyfriend after this. I'm sorry..."
Miguel nodded, trying to pretend like he wasn't disappointed but it showed all over his face anyway. "Of course, of course...no worries..." he stayed silent and opened a portal back to Nueva York and walked through.
He never asked to hang out again after that.
Now, knowing your now ex-sack-of-shit boyfriend was doing you dirty anyway, you figured you wouldn't mind risking it all right now.
----
Miguel headbutts a man who was trying to rob an elderly woman. He sees an incoming call on his watch as the man lays sputtering on the ground, while the old woman fans herself in relief.
Miguel's eyebrow raised but he answered it, putting it on bluetooth. "Hello?" He throws the robber over his shoulder.
Your tear stained voice comes through on the other line. "Miguel...?"
Oh that sweet voice of yours saying his name like that. Stay calm.
"Hey..." He throws the robber in the backseat of the cop car and nods to the chief. "Aren't you still on your day off?"
"Yeah I w-was...but um..." you sniffle, more tears coming down. You just need a hug right now.
Miguel pauses. It's more obvious now you're crying. It makes him feel sadder and more concerned than he has a right to be.
"I was gonna surprise my boyfriend...I walked in and..." You can't maintain your composure.
"And what?" Miguel asks, his voice worried now. "And what? Where are you?"
"Can you just come get me please?" You cry and stutter, lip trembling. "I n-need y-you..."
Miguel's heart melts. Is it bad he's low-key celebrating this moment in his head right now?
"Of course. Send me your location. I'll be there in about 10. Do you need anything?"
"All my s-stuff is still in the apartment but he won't let me in...he kicked me out after cheating on me and told me since I never gave a shit about this relationship, he doesn't give a shit about my stuff and I can go find somewhere else to s-stay..."
Miguel feels his adrenaline rising. "I'll get your stuff for you. Don't worry about it. Let me talk to him."
"That's not necessary..." You suddenly feel nervous but a little flattered at how protective he sounds. "I d-don't want you to hurt him..." You knew he would snap him like a twig if he wanted. "Promise...?"
Miguel pauses. "I won't. I'm approaching your street right now,I think."
You look up and sure enough you see him walking briskly towards you. His heart breaks when he sees you like this, your eyes puffy, heartbreak worn all over your face.
"I'll be right back..." He starts jogging up the stairs to your apartment.
"Miguel! Just get my stuff don't worry about him! Miguel!"
He doesn't hear you. Your ex answers the door with an annoyed look on his face.
"I'm here for your girlfriend's clothes." Miguel says, the storm seething underneath the surface.
"Ah, so she sends the work side piece to get it for her, typical!"
Miguel grits his teeth. "I'm not her "side piece" as you put it. I didn't come here to fight. I'm just here to get her things and then I'll be on my way."
Your ex huffs, "I could give a shit what that bitch wants!"
Miguel clenches his fists. "Don't speak that way about her."
Your ex stands up, chest puffed out despite being overpowered by Miguel's height. "And what are you going to do about it? This is my house, motherfucker. When she gave you her sob story did she leave out the part where she spends all her free time at work and forgets about her boyfriend who put a roof over her head? What was I supposed to do?"
Not cheat, for one...Miguel's face is red with rage, trying so hard to keep his promise.
Your ex wears a shit eating grin. "Wanna hit me, big guy? Go ahead. Tell me you're a goddamn cuck without telling me."
Miguel turns to the side and blows air out of his nostrils. Shortly after there's a crash and the sound of Miguel's fist pummeling the smug look off your ex's face and the screams of his mistress when she saw the commotion.
Miguel reemerges some time later with your small pink duffle bag. "I grabbed you some sweatpants and a couple pairs of underwear. I couldn't find your toothbrush...I'm sorry."
You shake your head. "oh my God...no, it's okay. Thank you so much Miguel..." You take the bag and look through it. "What happened? What'd he say?"
Miguel looked at you with a poker face, the sight of your ex's bloody face shooting across his memory. "He honestly didn't say much."
That would be the one and only promise he ever broke to you.
Miguel took you to the department store and let you pick out any toiletries you needed. He watched you with a gentle look on his face as you tossed a toothbrush, toothpaste, floss, some makeup wipes, your skin cleanser, some lotion, pads, tampons, a couple scrunchies, chapstick, and anything else you thought you might need into the cart while he pushed it.
He paused when you got to the shampoo and conditioner, only getting the travel size. "That's all you need?" He asks.
"Yeah, it'll only be for a few days until I can go back and get the rest of my stuff."
Miguel shakes his head and puts the liter size shampoo and conditioner in the cart. "Let's get the bigger size just in case."
You look at him, puzzled.
He gives you a shy smile. "You're... you were planning on staying at my place, right?" His heart pounded on the inside.
You nod your head and try to play it off. "Y-yeah. I mean, I don't want to intrude or anything, you know?"
Miguel grins. "Not at all. I have a spare bedroom you can use." Since he's a gentleman.
You smile and nod, can't help wondering how long this sleeping arrangement will last.
After checking out and he foots the bill at his insistence, you two go back to his place. His apartment is small but sleek. It definitely screams neat freak but he's very welcoming and shows you to your room. It used to be Gabby's old room but he eventually just turned it into an unused guest room. The curtains were still pink because he didn't have the heart to take them down.
You smile and sit on the bed and he walks into the kitchen to order food and give you time to settle in.
Soon, you're sitting on the couch together, shaking your bowls from Cava and you're sipping an extra large iced tea, swirling the drink and hearing the ice cubes clatter against the plastic, humming in satisfaction.
"What should we watch?" Miguel asks, sitting back and looking over at you.
You look at him then look at the clock. "Don't you have to get back to work?"
Miguel shakes his head. "Nah. Today's about making you feel better."
You smile but feel a little guilty, "I don't want to take up too much of your time."
Miguel gives you a soft smile, "You can make it up to me another time. What movie are we watching?"
You give a soft chuckle then look at the menu he's browsing on the TV. "Ummmmm, 13 Going on 30." You answer, taking a sip.
Miguel looks at you. "You sure a chick flick is the right answer right now?"
You nod. "I like watching romantic movies when I'm going through break ups. It's very cathartic."
Miguel raises an eyebrow but puts it on at your request. "Okay... Don't say I didn't warn you..."
He ends up being right and your lip is trembling at the end. Miguel looks over at you and gives you an endearing smile. He scoots closer to you, just a bit but, you close the gap immediately and just throw yourself in his chest, crying into it. Not caring that you're just friends or this is the longest time you two have ever spent alone together, wanting nothing more than to just be held by him.
Miguel freezes, his hands in mid-air, but they gently come to rest on your shoulders. He plays with your hair, letting you cry it out in silence. His body feels warm as he holds you, as though this is where he was supposed to be this whole time.
He's just sorry he couldn't have been there sooner and you had to get your heart trampled on for it to happen eventually. He feels on top of the world, but simultaneously aches at seeing the sadness coming out of you, wishing he could absorb it from you completely.
Your breathing slows down, shuddering a little as the last of your sobs come out, and sit up and wipe your eyes. Miguel looks at you, running a thumb down your chin. He gives you a teasing grin. "Told you you'd cry."
You give a little snort. "Whatever. I just got cheated on dude, cut me some slack here."
Miguel smiles and nods. "You're right, you're right. I'm sorry..." His voice lowers a little bit. "But really, you deserve so much better than that."
You nod slowly, blowing your nose. "Thanks Miguel...I just don't get how he threw two years down the drain for some chick he just met..."
Miguel nods, tucking some hair behind your ear.
"It has nothing to do with you. Usually when people cheat, it's because there's something wrong with the one who cheated. You didn't cause this at all."
"Yeah but, maybe if I didn't work so much..."
"-Work's not an excuse," Miguel says gently, cutting you off. "You don't use anything as an excuse to hurt the ones you love. I mean if I was in his shoes..." Miguel clears his throat, "hypothetically, of course..."
A small smile forms on your face at the mention of you being his.
Miguel fumbles a little bit with his words, the facade shielding his true feelings unable to stand any longer, causing them to be painfully obvious. "....uhem, well, I definitely wouldn't hurt you like that." he said abruptly, looking away.
"If I was yours, huh?" You give him a cheeky smile, your face still puffy from tears, leaning on your elbow.
Miguel shakes his head. "We don't have to focus too much on that part... I was only giving you an example..."
"Or a suggestion....?" You ask, your stomach starting to jitter a little bit.
Miguel huffs and looks down, then looks at you again, the air becomes thick. "I was only..."
"Just admit you like me, Miguel." You say in a soft tone, your hand coming to rest on his leg.
Miguel has been waiting for this moment for months, but somehow now that it's right in front of his face, he's shy and scared as hell.
"I...." he looks at you, his jaw tensing as your eyes go half-lidded, coming to rest so subtly on his lips. "I....," he repeats. He's stuck with nowhere else to go. Your eyes are holding him captive.
He just goes for it, cupping your face with one of his hands and pulling you into a warm kiss. Your cheeks are still a little wet under his touch, but the feel of you causes him to melt away as the kiss slowly gets a little more deep, your tongues beginning to softly mold and explore the other's mouth. His lips plump and soft, his calloused hands normally rough handling your waist with careful touches as they chase your worries and your sadness away.
Miguel breaks the kiss gently for just a moment, his mouth mumbling into yours, "I wanted to do that for so long..."
You smile and hum in agreement, peppering little kisses all over his face, making him chuckle.
And so the rest of the afternoon and night was spent lazily on the couch. Watching movies and even cartoons you both loved as a kid, eventually dozing off until Miguel woke you up about 10 pm, and you both ended the night cuddled in his bed.
The alarm on his phone was set for 6:30 am the next morning so you two could have enough time for a shower and coffee before you headed to work.
You never left his side after that.

The Who of Hua Cheng
I am going to venture a guess that I spend more time than at least 99% of the population thinking deeply about Hua Cheng (not that hard but the brain rot is still real).
I find myself turning around and around in my mind the who of Hua Cheng, because TGCF is written from Xie Lian's point of view. We see moments with him, which are keystone moments in Hua Cheng's life for certain, but are brief compared to the rest.
And sometimes I worry that we don't think enough about Hua Cheng as a fully fleshed person. Is he a supreme because of XL? Absolutely he is. But all the rest of the things about him are very much inherently him.
It means that tiny Hong'er was extremely smart even when marked with the curse. And that Hong'er was tenacious too. It meant that Hong'er had martial prowess great enough to ascend, all on his own. In another world (one where he was not born under the Star of Solitude), Hong'er would be a god.
I think it bears mentioning that even in spite of being born under such a curse, all he needed to reach the heights he was destined to reach was the kindness of a single person: Xie Lian.
Was Xie Lian his totem? Absolutely! But the thing about being devout is that it comes from within. Hua Cheng's strength is not something he borrows from Xie Lian. It's not something he depends on Xie Lian for in order to flourish and grow.
And I think that's important.
Hua Cheng is very much his own person. He's made thousands and thousands of choices in his life. Are they choices that he weighs based on what his god would do? Yes, very much. But he does not depend on Xie Lian to make those choices.
He made Ghost City in part to curb the worst instincts of people. And he also made it to give wayward wanderers with nowhere to go a place to call home.
He answers the prayers of children going to his temples over rich folks.
He made a teleportation array that serves half as a prank to people who use it.
All while searching for his vagabond god.
Don't get me wrong, this does not mean that he would not give each and every piece of himself to Xie Lian once the two were reunited. And those other things he did are truly secondary to his vow to love and protect his god, but I don't think we should forget how extraordinary Hua Cheng is, even in the secondary.
Xie Lian fell in love with Hua Cheng so easily because of the person he was. He's clever, and he's funny, and he's kind (even if he denies it), and he's a martial master. He was these things independent of Xie Lian, but because of Xie Lian's moment of kindness, he was also not robbed of sharing those parts of him with the world.
Hua Cheng and Xie Lian truly belong together. Not because Hua Cheng is devoted, but because Hua Cheng is amazing.

Tumblr Live: it’s not that serious. By BorderlineBelle
Literally I met mutuals of 10+ years on tumblr live.
The hatred over tumblr live was over the top and insane… it truly wasn’t that serious.
If you can stand to be thought critiqued, stay. 🙂
Yes, they robbed us of all our personal info, that’s our choice. Basically.. that’s every single app ever. Wake up. Everyone is just choosing their daddy to participate in this society, which exists ONLINE in equal measure.
Ya’ll bend over to SOME cloud daddy collection somewhere.. unless all your family photos hit printer ink 🫨 why is this the hill you were willing to die on?
Tumblr Live was good.
People hung out, did hobbies, met mutuals, discussed old and new tumblr, made new friends, shared art and music and passion and hobbies…
Before the flood of MeetMe folks… (which was awful. as an OG… I get it) .. it was a chill place to hang out.
The active and consistent and LOUD trolls made it so negative and latched on and like the USUAL TUMBLR PIRANHAS… wouldn’t let it GO.
You made a hashtag and shopped it day and night. Like why???
#TurnOffTumblrLive … was wild.
I consider myself part of the few who supported EVERY FANDOM.. kinda 😅. I’ve been on tumblr for my whole life and before that and I try to be a GOOD community member!
I wasn’t actively working for every fandom 😅 but if it was a high holy holiday of your fandom or a meme or a joke that was so popular it circulated into the main highways of tumblr… that needed spreading… I of course let it roll across my dashboard. I reblogged your top chosen artists and musicians, whomever your communities had chosen … we supported. I supported. As a bit of an outliner. A sad girl yadda yadda mentally ill and sexy… screaming into the void at the porn bots 🤷🏽‍♀️ it was a niche trust me… but I did and do participate with positivity even if I didn’t get the joke.
And … YOU ALL… BURIED AND KICKED AROUND tumblr live as if she was a DiLaurentis triplet. 🤧
Tumblr media
It was way overboard imo. 🤧💅🏽
Some people used tumblr live for good. 👁️👁️
Then the REALLY determined trolls harassed the poor CEO guy and we ALL KNOW HE’s STRESSED. His hair is thinning. We can see it and ya’ll demand and do too much. i hope to one day sit with the man and say, “you’re doing mostly, kind of .. a fine job.” 👍🏽😬
Tumblr, in general, is one of the few places left on the interweb that maintains the primary basic deliciousness of self expression through the works of others. It remains from LONG AGO.
Don’t fucking ruin the overall umbrella of the tumblr space… with deep… leaving funny and entering disturbing… cynicism.
Tumblr media
Remember the LISTEN to OTHER pov’s too. 🤷🏽‍♀️🙂
Real people exist behind the cameras.
That’s all.
I’m glad it’s gone too.
2024 tumblr is gonna be shmexy.

I would really love for the rdr community as a whole to stop trying, (and failing), to defend Dutch, and shift the blame entirely onto Micah. Red Dead Redemption and Red Dead Redemption II are both beautiful and well thought out games both in the gameplay and the storytelling. But I think a lot of people simply ignore those things, hence my long rant of a post.
TLDR: I think Micah was intentionally written to be one dimensional, and Dutch was manipulative from the start. Arthur is just a unreliable narrator.
We play through Arthur's eyes and see/believe what he does. We can see Arthur's loyalty blinds him (and by extension, us) to Dutch's behavior. I would know peace if some folks to took a media literacy class. Red Dead one & two are shining example of the bias in an unreliable narrator. Video games are not exempt from literary tools because you control part of the story. That control is limited to the actions of your bias protagonist, in this case John and Arthur.
The same applies to Micah. Arthur never trusts Micah from day one, and so we as the player don’t trust him either. It would be incredibly lazy on Rockstar’s behalf to created as one dimensional of a character as Micah. But the thing is, Arthur views him that way, a no good money-hungry thief from the start. Arthur is able to see through him, but he is blind to Dutch’s similar behavior because of his loyalty. It’s an incredibly smart tool to use in video games. Once you replay the game without the blinders on of your first playthrough, you’re able to see that Dutch has behaved the very same ways from Chapter One, all the way through Chapter Six. The only difference is that Arthur (and we the player) is slowly becoming aware of the patterns for the first time.
Now, for the blatant mischaracterization of Dutch entirely. To blame everything on Micah diminishes Dutch’s character to such an extent it completely disregards the decades long manipulation he inflicted on the gang, that is very real and very obvious. I won’t get into the way each individual character’s behavior was effected by this, but I will speak about Arthur and John briefly.
Dutch takes in people that are vulnerable and that he knows he can manipulate for his own gain. Children included. Multiple children, in fact. He always has a plan, not to keep folks safe, but to keep everyone comfortably under his thumb. It was always, "Are you with me, or against me" from the beginning. Everyone was either a means to his end, or they were worthless. The second someone did not agree, it was a betrayal, and an attack. I don't doubt he did some things out of kindness, but there's always ulterior motives. Dutch is nothing but a man of pretty words that hide his manipulation.
Dutch maintains an air of grandiosity amongst the gang. He obviously holds the belief that he is above them in all ways. He believes he is their leader because he is simply better than the rest of them. He’s smarter. He’s this god-like figure in his mind. He’s their savior. Hence his distaste for any doubt, or even being challenged.
Lenny and the conversation he has with Dutch about Evelyn Miller for example. Lenny indirectly call’s Dutch’s empty words out and points out that both Miller (Dutch’s idol) and Dutch himself hide behind their flowery words and phrases. Or Arthur and Hosea voicing their concern about robbing Leviticus Cornwall, it’s seen as a betrayal. Or when Uncle pokes fun at Dutch in camp and Dutch says to him, “I would really like to kill you right now.” Dutch may not be entirely self aware, but any attack at him does dig at him for a reason. And this is all from chapter two! There has always been a pattern.
Dutch says he "saved" them. He saved Bill, and John, and Arthur and Lenny and Javier. He saved all of them, and he is above all of them. Dutch sees people as nothing more as tools to meet his goals. There are instances where he does seem to genuinely care, but the ulterior motive is always there.
Dutch and Micah were written with the idea that we see the story through Arthur’s eyes. Arthur is blinded by his decades long to loyalty to Dutch and slowly coming to the realization of the truth. Micah is incredibly one dimensional cause Arthur sees through him and views him as a rat from the start. The truth of the story can be seen through repeated playthroughs. Dutch’s paranoia from the start, questioning Arthur’s loyalty from Colter. Micah sniffing around about the Blackwater money from the beginning. Arthur’s journal entries about the his biased version of the truth. Media literacy is necessary even in video games. God.

How does it feel to stay winning Petty? Also who would've guessed that baby Barcode would be the one of the BOC boys to collect kisses from all the homies!?
Anon, I appreciate you sending this because, right now, I feel like an elite status female rapper. Like CL from 2NE1 rapped in their 2011 hit, "I am the best", Be On Cloud owns me, and y'all can't tell me shit about this show.
Tumblr media
I know I have some Wild Ass Theories and I'm always clownin' in these BL streets, but I love when my theories actually hit their target like . . .
When I knew Teacher Chadok was in a relationship with Teacher Dika since the first episode of The Eclipse.
Tumblr media
When I knew Kanghan's house was going to be robbed and his dad would be shot since the third episode of Dangerous Romance, even though I thought Saifah would do it.
Tumblr media
When I knew Pat was working with Joke to win over Zo since the first episode of Hidden Agenda.
Tumblr media
I love making Wild Ass Theories no matter how crazy they are, like my belief that the twins' dad is involved in this whole murder and sex work plot in Playboyy. No matter what happened in this past episode, I still believe it and am eagerly awaiting the upcoming chaos to see how hard I clowned.
Which is why I LOVE Dead Friend Forever.
Tumblr media
I want the record to state that no matter what happens after episode seven, that at this exact moment in time, I love this show. It makes me happy to be alive at the same time this is airing, and I'm not joking. I want to remember that at one point, this show was everything to me, and even if it goes down hill, it had all my attention in the first seven episodes. I want to appreciate it right now because regardless of what happens, it did everything right in the first half.
Tumblr media
With the way some shows keep losing their footing in the end, sometimes we forget how good they were in the beginning, and the emo in me doesn't want to forget this feeling. Some of my favorite movies are Scream, Heathers, and Jawbreaker so this show has been giving me the explicitly queer version of kill your frenemies since the very first episode, and I love it.
Tumblr media
My internal alarm went off the second Tee got upset that Phi was speaking to White in episode one, then the dark hand touched him making him enemy #1. I didn't like the way he told White he needed to obey him, and I feel like the dark hand wasn't too pleased with it either. It was a vibe.
Tumblr media
And now Non has a hurt hand in the past from falling off the bike . . .
Tumblr media
Then, Jin was the main character of the previous film, so he was either the killer or the biggest baddie.
Tumblr media
But Phi was just so sus, that I clocked him as a killer.
Tumblr media
Which meant Phi and Jin were the killers, but Tan has no backstory and people with no history are intentionally hiding it, so they can kill everyone and peace out.
Tumblr media
So in my mind, Tan and Phi were regulated to the killers, Tee was the second to last to die, which I'm hoping it's by his boyfriend White who he thinks disobeys him, and the rest of the squad would die as needed. Which left Jin to be the baddie.
Tumblr media
All of my theories could blow up at any second because we don't know if Jin actually sent that video or if his computer fizzled out before it finished uploading, so he could still be a killer avenging Non instead of a baddie who wronged Non (but he took the video and that is messed up regardless of what he planned to do with it).
Tumblr media
But either way, I'm hoping it comes down to Phi and Jin in that forest because the show started with them.
Tumblr media
And I don't think Jin realizes who Phi is to Non since Jin never got a good look at Phi's face in the past.
Tumblr media
The Twitter folks spotted that Phi's dad was the police chief from the letters the boys got calling them in for interrogation in episode six.
Tumblr media
And now the knife from episode two is showing up in the past in Non's backpack.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Up until this point, I feel the show has laid out a solid story with a good cast, and I think Be On Cloud relied on their KinnPorsche casting to throw people off in this show because who expected Us to be doomed in the first episode? That was like Drew Barrymore dying at the beginning of Scream.
Tumblr media
People have felt off about JJ's character, but the show wouldn't really have JJ do anything bad to sweet Barcode, right?
Tumblr media
And Barcode and Ta being paired together was a pipe dream for the Macau x Porchay shippers, so it could never happen here!
Tumblr media
Especially because Ta and Copper won The Hidden Character, which meant they were going to be the main pair of this show, right?
Tumblr media
WRONG!
Tumblr media
Barcode is gonna be involved in some fucked up shit, and according to those MDL comments, people are realizing they messed up making any assumptions before this show started based on what the actors previously did.
Tumblr media
I truly feel like BOC looked at its lineup and said "Baby Barcode was babygirled so hard for the past two years that the audience won't even think his character is capable of such things"
Tumblr media
and I love that for us.
Tumblr media
BOC gave these youngsters (19-23 in age) a script from Dr. Sammon and the Pit Babe writers and said "go HAM, bitches"
Tumblr media
And the audience stays winning.
This isn't about my Wild Ass Theories coming true. This is an appreciation post for what this show has given to me up until this point - a good mystery.
Tumblr media
Every week I have more questions and none of them feel like they will go unanswered. Is Non dead? Did Jin actually upload the video? Is Tan a killer? Why did Phi hook up with Jin? Will White finally snap, crackle, and pop like a bag of Rice Krispies treats for the mere fact that he simply wanted a nice weekend getaway with his boyfriend and now has to deal with all this bullshit?
But most importantly, when did Phi realize he was going to kill all of them after making them run around scared for their lives?
Tumblr media
Because by time the show makes it back to the present day, I'm sure we're all going to want to watch these kids suffer in the worst ways possible.
Manipulate, Murder, Mayhem

Explicit content under the cut
Never trust a "runaway" O'Driscoll ever again. You was on the run now, away from those freaks and needed a proper escape at least for the time being. Why you chose to not accept Arthur's offer of joining the gang was beyond you. You knew each other well in Blackwater before they had to leave, he suggested you join since you'd be a great addition and trustworthy, but you declined. Later on you were picked up by a "runaway", he sold you out and now you're high tailing it to the nearest escape.
You stumbled across a particularly high end looking train that looked like it was headed west--aka opposite way from this shit. Your initial intent wasn't to rob it, yet. You just needed a quick getaway from this madness. Quick and sneaky you were getting into the back past a few guards. You found an abandoned ticket under a seat and stuffed it in your pocket, walking around until you found an empty cart that looked quite fancy.
You kept your head on a swivel and constantly looked out the window for any suspicious activities when somebody barged in. You quickly stood up and drew your revolver when you realized who you laid your eyes on.
"...Arthur?" you said. His eyes adjusted from the sun reflecting off the window when he heard his name escape from your lips, recognizing your voice almost immediately.
"What are you doin' here?" you both inquired in unison.
"Put your damn gun down I ain't here to rob you." he said sitting down on one of the two seat chairs covered in leather. You slid it back into the holster with curious eyes still on him. Just how long had it been? Why was he here?
"You normally waltz into carts that aren't yours?"
"Ain't that what you did?"
...he had a point.
"Maybe, but I had a reason."
"You sayin' I'd hop onto a nearby train for no reason?"
"I ain't seen or heard from you in almost a decade, Arthur. I don't know what I know anymore. Where's the rest of Blackwater's finest?"
Arthur just leaned forward to rest his elbows on his knees. There was a deadpan look in his eyes as he recalled everything that went down in the last two weeks. All the betrayals and chaos started to montage in his mind all over again; how he was this close to death, but managed to escape somehow.
"Dead, on their own, or all the above. Remember John? I helped him and his folks get out. The others...well I don't rightly know where they are. And quite frankly I don't care."
You sat in front of him as you processed his words. What's understood don't need to be said, and you knew this well.
"Is that why you're here?" you asked. It felt like a question with an obvious answer but you honestly just wanted a confirmation. It wasn't like him to just run off, at least from when you last seen him.
"In so many words, I guess. Although I didn't expect to see a woman of your caliber running away from your bullshit either. I'd like to know too, if you don't mind."
"Oh hush that up." you waved his comment off dismissively, "I was sold out."
"Well I'll be. You know I always wondered what you were doing or who you decided to hang with if not us. Who in their right mind would sell out one of Blackwater's most wanted?"
In your time together you always had a playful relationship, but you could tell in his tone there was slight bitterness or sarcasm. Truth be told he started to feel some type of way when he realized you declined him just to end up with some other gang that clearly didn't give a damn about you.
"Watch yourself." you warned, your tone half serious half playful.
"What? You didn't want to be around folk who had your best interest that's fine. I won't say I told you so."
"When the hell did you tell me so?"
"The day before we left." he answered without hesitation. "The night we spent together? Ring any bells?"
Damn. You tried to forget that night since the day he had to leave and you too shortly after. You didn't want to remember all the fun you had. You didn't want to remember his hearty laugh at your stupid jokes. Hell...you didn't even want to remember just how good he treated you. He treated you like a lady, unlike most of the men you came across. All it took was one heated kiss, and you both were hooked. But also knew it couldn't be given both your circumstances.
When he offered for you to join you wanted to jump at the opportunity. So why didn't you? Because, well, you loved the man. You thought your own feelings would hinder the morale of the group somehow and break it apart, and you wouldn't dare that be on you. Plus you couldn't really tell where he stood. He's a guy who treated most people with respect despite how he grew up.
Back then he mentioned how people like them were hard to come by and that most gangs were either just downright pieces of shit or cultish. So he in fact did tell you so, and you tried to forget that as soon as possible. Didn't want any sort of thoughts of him clouding your mind or else you'd go crazy.
The only reason you two didn't get intimate that night is because he respected you and your boundaries. He still does. He didn't want it to feel like he was grasping on to the nearest thing to fuck with and then dip. That's not the kind of man he was nor will he ever be.
"What does that night have to do with why I'm here now?" you tried so hard to seem like it didn't completely take over your thoughts, but this is Arthur Morgan for christ sake. He's damn good at reading people.
"It can mean just about anything, sweetheart, but I know it meant something to you just as much as it did to me." he said. The tone of his voice sounded a bit like he was trying to convince himself that was the case. If it wasn't, he wouldn't know what to do.
You sat back in your seat but that didn't take away the feeling of his gaze pouring into your soul. "It did." you said looking down at your hands
"Then why decline? Was it me? I know it's not my lifestyle because we lived the same way."
"I didn't want to get in the way, alright? I knew you'd be gone often and would be out for days at a time while I worried if you'd come back in one piece. I've been there and done that. Wasn't doing that again."
Arthur leaned back up in his seat and ran his hand over his face, sighing. He didn't want to come off so strong, but he felt real feelings for you and didn't know how to process it properly. The woman who's been on his mind since the day the gang left Blackwater sat in front of him and he felt like a lost puppy all over again.
"Okay." he said softly, "Was I on your mind at all?" he continued looking down, mumbling under his breath but you still heard him.
"Everyday since." you said standing up. He slowly looked up at you with those pearly blues that never failed to capture you. He was just so relieved that it wasn't just him. That it wasn't one-sided. Grabbing his hand you pulled him up to meet your eyes--like he wasn't visibly looking down at you.
"I thought about you so damn much I guess I had to distract myself by running with some undercover O'Driscolls. I figured out who they was too late and voila, lawmen breaking down my door."
Arthur shortly chuckled upon hearing you explain more of your situation. To him it was unbelievable, and he never thought he'd hear that name ever again especially after seeing Colm swing.
"This evening is full of surprises. How do I know this isn't some big scheme to take me down once and for all?" he said while wrapping his arms snug around your waist and his voice grew more rugged and deep. Oh how he missed this. What this is, who knows, and who cares?
"I don't need some big scheme to take you down." you said placing your hands on his biceps, squeezing just a little bit. He smirked at this action and pulled you closer.
"That so?"
You hummed in agreement, and it didn't take long for you two to finally lock lips together after a bit of playful murmuring here and there. And just like that, you both were taken back to that night. That heated kiss you shared was the absolute highlight of your lives, and you intended to relive that again and more.
It's like you never left but kissed like it's been forever. He ran his cold palm up your back to hold you while the other unbuttoned your pants. Even after almost ten years, he didn't miss a beat. He still got it. Are we surprised? You followed his lead and kept one arm around his neck while the other attempted to pull him free.
His hands were quick and nimble like yours, so next thing you know your pants are on the ground and you're sitting comfortably in his lap. You was now clad in a loose collar shirt and underwear and his shirt remained unbuttoned at the collar. Your mouths never stopped dancing throughout this whole process too.
Arthur just kept groaning into your mouth at every subtle grind on his thigh. This was only the second time of you two getting together like this, yet it feels way more than that. That same drunk feeling from the night made its return and wasn't going anywhere anytime soon.
You pulled back so you both could catch your breath, holding his face and running your thumbs over his stubble that was soon to becoming a full beard.
"I missed you...so damn much." you said in a tone just above a whisper.
"I can't imagine more than I have..." he replied while toying with the hem of your underwear. "Would you give this old outlaw the honor of... having you? All to myself?" he asked, looking deep into your eyes. You could feel him fully hard and his hands trembling a bit, but he still wants to hear it from you. One part is confirmation, but the other? He would easily gain satisfaction from knowing you want to give yourself to him.
"Well...I've saved a horse...and I plan on riding a cowboy," you whispered and smiled against his lips before leaning back in. Arthur chuckled into the kiss, wasting zero time pulling them panties to the side and slide right on in.
Your breath hitched as you eased on down his thick shaft. "That's my girl." he whispered, right next to your ear so he could physically feel you clench against him from his praises. You gripped his shoulders as your eyes closed shut, expelling light whimpers here and there as you set a place. He placed his hand on your back once again to encourage you, feeling a little smug at your struggle to keep up.
Best believe you weren't no bitch though; you swallowed thickly and kept on riding him. The ambience of the train was quickly fading as you two became lost in your own desire.
Were you expecting your orgasm to approach so quickly? Honestly, it made sense. Arthur knew all the right things to say and touched all the right places that churn your butter.
He was also nearing the end, and yet he had such a genuine smile on his face. He grunted with every time you sank back down into his lap and this meant he simply could not be happier. He's been dreaming of this moment forever, and finally. Finally, the woman of his dreams is having the time of her life because of him.
To keep yourself grounded you pulled his head up to rest your forehead on his, "Please, cum inside me," you begged. Your climax was seconds away from hitting you and you wanted to reach bliss at the same time.
You ain't have to tell him even once with how quickly he followed suit. Your hips slammed right back down into his lap as you both tried to stifle your cries of pleasure, still mindful of other passengers.
After you both calmed down in each other's arms, you cleaned yourselves up and plopped back down onto the two person couch you had just gotten intimate on. You held his bicep and laid your head on his shoulder with a content smile on your face. His the very same.
"You sure know how to get down for someone I ain't seen in a long time." he said playfully, looking down at you.
"Who said I ain't got none in a long time?" you replied a little too fast for his liking, looking up and seeing his expression comedically fall to a straight one. "I'm just messing, I wouldn't dare risk having anybody else's kids but yours." you continued casually before shutting your eyes. You had to stop yourself from laughing at the sound of his heart rate getting faster through his chest.
He chuckled, looking out the window at the scenery become painted with the pinks and yellows of the sunset passing by.
"You are something else."
