What is the best web-based enterprise accounting software?
Tumblr media
In the fast-paced and ever-evolving landscape of business, staying on top of your finances is crucial. As enterprises expand their operations, managing accounts efficiently becomes a daunting task. Thankfully, with the advent of technology, businesses now have access to a plethora of web-based enterprise accounting software options to streamline their financial processes. In this comprehensive guide, we will explore the ins and outs of web-based enterprise accounting software, helping you make an informed decision on the best solution for your business needs.
Understanding Web-Based Enterprise Accounting Software
Web-based enterprise accounting software, often referred to as cloud accounting software, is a digital solution that allows businesses to manage their financial activities online. Unlike traditional accounting systems that rely on on-premise software, web-based accounting tools operate in the cloud, offering users the flexibility to access their financial data from anywhere with an internet connection.
Advantages of Web-Based Enterprise Accounting Software
1. Accessibility
One of the primary advantages of web-based accounting software is accessibility. With data stored securely in the cloud, users can access their financial information anytime, anywhere. This proves especially beneficial for enterprises with multiple locations or remote teams, fostering collaboration and efficiency.
2. Cost Efficiency
Web-based accounting solutions often follow a subscription-based model, eliminating the need for costly upfront investments in software and hardware. This cost-effective approach makes it easier for businesses to scale their accounting infrastructure according to their needs without breaking the bank.
3. Real-Time Updates
In the dynamic world of business, real-time data is invaluable. Web-based accounting software provides instant updates, ensuring that users have access to the most recent financial information. This feature is crucial for making informed decisions and adapting to market changes promptly.
4. Automatic Updates and Maintenance
Gone are the days of manual software updates and maintenance. With web-based accounting solutions, updates are automatic, and maintenance is handled by the service provider. This frees up valuable time for businesses to focus on core operations rather than managing software updates.
Features to Look for in Web-Based Enterprise Accounting Software
1. User-Friendly Interface
A user-friendly interface is essential for ensuring that your team can navigate the software seamlessly. Look for solutions with intuitive dashboards and easy-to-understand features to minimize the learning curve for your staff.
2. Scalability
As your enterprise grows, so do your accounting needs. Choose a web-based accounting solution that can scale with your business, accommodating increased transaction volumes and additional users without compromising performance.
3. Integration Capabilities
Efficient accounting doesn't happen in isolation. Ensure that the web-based accounting software you choose integrates seamlessly with other essential business tools, such as CRM systems, project management software, and e-commerce platforms.
4. Security
The security of your financial data should be a top priority. Opt for web-based accounting software that employs robust encryption protocols and follows industry best practices for data protection. Additionally, check for features such as multi-factor authentication to add an extra layer of security.

1. Assess Your Business Requirements
Start by identifying your business's specific accounting requirements. Consider factors such as the number of users, the complexity of your financial transactions, and the need for integration with other business applications.
2. Set a Budget
Determine a realistic budget for your accounting software. While web-based solutions often offer cost savings compared to traditional software, it's essential to choose a solution that aligns with your financial resources.
3. Explore Free Trials
Many web-based accounting software providers offer free trials of their platforms. Take advantage of these trials to explore the features and functionalities of different solutions before making a commitment.
4. Seek Recommendations and Reviews
Consult with other businesses in your industry or network to gather recommendations and insights. Additionally, read reviews from reputable sources to gain a better understanding of the user experiences with different accounting software options.
The Evolution of Web-Based Enterprise Accounting Software
As technology continues to advance, so does the landscape of web-based enterprise accounting software. The evolution of these platforms is driven by the ever-changing needs of businesses and the ongoing developments in cloud technology. Let's delve deeper into the evolving trends shaping the future of web-based accounting solutions.
1. Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Automation
The integration of artificial intelligence and automation is revolutionizing how businesses handle their financial processes. Modern web-based accounting software is incorporating AI algorithms to automate repetitive tasks, such as data entry and invoice categorization. This not only increases efficiency but also minimizes the risk of human error.
2. Enhanced Data Analytics
In the age of big data, the ability to derive meaningful insights from financial data is paramount. Advanced web-based accounting solutions are now equipped with powerful data analytics tools. These tools help businesses analyze trends, forecast future financial scenarios, and make data-driven decisions.
3. Mobile Accessibility
The shift towards mobile accessibility is a notable trend in web-based enterprise accounting software. Businesses are increasingly relying on mobile devices for day-to-day operations, and accounting software providers are responding by offering mobile-friendly applications. This allows users to manage their finances on the go, providing unparalleled flexibility.
4. Integration with E-Commerce Platforms
As e-commerce continues to thrive, businesses are looking for accounting solutions that seamlessly integrate with their online sales platforms. Modern web-based accounting software often includes features tailored for e-commerce, such as automated transaction reconciliation with online sales channels and inventory management.
5. Blockchain Technology
Blockchain technology is making waves in various industries, and accounting is no exception. Some web-based accounting solutions are exploring the integration of blockchain for enhanced security and transparency in financial transactions. This could revolutionize how businesses handle aspects like auditing and transaction verification.
Common Challenges and How to Overcome Them
While web-based enterprise accounting software offers numerous benefits, it's important to be aware of potential challenges and how to overcome them. Here are some common issues businesses may face:
1. Security Concerns
The sensitive nature of financial data raises concerns about security in the cloud. To address this, choose a web-based accounting solution that employs robust encryption protocols and complies with industry security standards. Additionally, educate your team about best practices for secure online behavior.
2. Connectivity Issues
Reliable internet connectivity is crucial for accessing web-based accounting software. In regions with unstable internet connections, businesses may face challenges in real-time collaboration and data accessibility. Consider implementing backup solutions for offline access or explore accounting software with offline capabilities.
3. Customization Needs
Every business has unique accounting requirements. Some businesses may find that certain web-based accounting solutions lack the level of customization they need. In such cases, explore platforms that offer extensive customization options or consider integrating additional specialized accounting tools.
4. Data Ownership and Control
Understanding the terms of service and data ownership is essential when using web-based accounting software. Ensure that the chosen platform allows you to retain control over your financial data and provides mechanisms for data export in case of migration to a different system.
Conclusion: Making the Right Choice for Long-Term Success
In the fast-paced world of business, the right web-based enterprise accounting software can be a game-changer. Whether you're a small startup or a large enterprise, the key is to stay informed about the latest advancements in accounting technology and align your choice with the long-term goals of your business.
As you navigate the vast landscape of web-based accounting solutions, remember that the best choice is the one that seamlessly integrates with your business processes, enhances efficiency, and adapts to the evolving needs of your enterprise. If you have any specific questions or need further guidance on a particular aspect of web-based accounting software, feel free to ask for more information!

Weaponizing violence. With alarming regularity, the nation continues to be subjected to spates of violence that terrorizes the public, destabilizes the country’s ecosystem, and gives the government greater justifications to crack down, lock down, and institute even more authoritarian policies for the so-called sake of national security without many objections from the citizenry.
Weaponizing surveillance, pre-crime and pre-thought campaigns. Surveillance, digital stalking and the data mining of the American people add up to a society in which there’s little room for indiscretions, imperfections, or acts of independence. When the government sees all and knows all and has an abundance of laws to render even the most seemingly upstanding citizen a criminal and lawbreaker, then the old adage that you’ve got nothing to worry about if you’ve got nothing to hide no longer applies. Add pre-crime programs into the mix with government agencies and corporations working in tandem to determine who is a potential danger and spin a sticky spider-web of threat assessments, behavioral sensing warnings, flagged “words,” and “suspicious” activity reports using automated eyes and ears, social media, behavior sensing software, and citizen spies, and you having the makings for a perfect dystopian nightmare. The government’s war on crime has now veered into the realm of social media and technological entrapment, with government agents adopting fake social media identities and AI-created profile pictures in order to surveil, target and capture potential suspects.
Weaponizing digital currencies, social media scores and censorship. Tech giants, working with the government, have been meting out their own version of social justice by way of digital tyranny and corporate censorship, muzzling whomever they want, whenever they want, on whatever pretext they want in the absence of any real due process, review or appeal. Unfortunately, digital censorship is just the beginning. Digital currencies (which can be used as “a tool for government surveillance of citizens and control over their financial transactions”), combined with social media scores and surveillance capitalism create a litmus test to determine who is worthy enough to be part of society and punish individuals for moral lapses and social transgressions (and reward them for adhering to government-sanctioned behavior). In China, millions of individuals and businesses, blacklisted as “unworthy” based on social media credit scores that grade them based on whether they are “good” citizens, have been banned from accessing financial markets, buying real estate or travelling by air or train.
Weaponizing compliance. Even the most well-intentioned government law or program can be—and has been—perverted, corrupted and used to advance illegitimate purposes once profit and power are added to the equation. The war on terror, the war on drugs, the war on COVID-19, the war on illegal immigration, asset forfeiture schemes, road safety schemes, school safety schemes, eminent domain: all of these programs started out as legitimate responses to pressing concerns and have since become weapons of compliance and control in the police state’s hands.
Weaponizing entertainment. For the past century, the Department of Defense’s Entertainment Media Office has provided Hollywood with equipment, personnel and technical expertise at taxpayer expense. In exchange, the military industrial complex has gotten a starring role in such blockbusters as Top Gun and its rebooted sequel Top Gun: Maverick, which translates to free advertising for the war hawks, recruitment of foot soldiers for the military empire, patriotic fervor by the taxpayers who have to foot the bill for the nation’s endless wars, and Hollywood visionaries working to churn out dystopian thrillers that make the war machine appear relevant, heroic and necessary. As Elmer Davis, a CBS broadcaster who was appointed the head of the Office of War Information, observed, “The easiest way to inject a propaganda idea into most people’s minds is to let it go through the medium of an entertainment picture when they do not realize that they are being propagandized.”
Weaponizing behavioral science and nudging. Apart from the overt dangers posed by a government that feels justified and empowered to spy on its people and use its ever-expanding arsenal of weapons and technology to monitor and control them, there’s also the covert dangers associated with a government empowered to use these same technologies to influence behaviors en masse and control the populace. In fact, it was President Obama who issued an executive order directing federal agencies to use “behavioral science” methods to minimize bureaucracy and influence the way people respond to government programs. It’s a short hop, skip and a jump from a behavioral program that tries to influence how people respond to paperwork to a government program that tries to shape the public’s views about other, more consequential matters. Thus, increasingly, governments around the world—including in the United States—are relying on “nudge units” to steer citizens in the direction the powers-that-be want them to go, while preserving the appearance of free will.
Weaponizing desensitization campaigns aimed at lulling us into a false sense of security. The events of recent years—the invasive surveillance, the extremism reports, the civil unrest, the protests, the shootings, the bombings, the military exercises and active shooter drills, the lockdowns, the color-coded alerts and threat assessments, the fusion centers, the transformation of local police into extensions of the military, the distribution of military equipment and weapons to local police forces, the government databases containing the names of dissidents and potential troublemakers—have conspired to acclimate the populace to accept a police state willingly, even gratefully.
Weaponizing fear and paranoia. The language of fear is spoken effectively by politicians on both sides of the aisle, shouted by media pundits from their cable TV pulpits, marketed by corporations, and codified into bureaucratic laws that do little to make our lives safer or more secure. Fear, as history shows, is the method most often used by politicians to increase the power of government and control a populace, dividing the people into factions, and persuading them to see each other as the enemy. This Machiavellian scheme has so ensnared the nation that few Americans even realize they are being manipulated into adopting an “us” against “them” mindset. Instead, fueled with fear and loathing for phantom opponents, they agree to pour millions of dollars and resources into political elections, militarized police, spy technology and endless wars, hoping for a guarantee of safety that never comes. All the while, those in power—bought and paid for by lobbyists and corporations—move their costly agendas forward, and “we the suckers” get saddled with the tax bills and subjected to pat downs, police raids and round-the-clock surveillance.
Weaponizing genetics. Not only does fear grease the wheels of the transition to fascism by cultivating fearful, controlled, pacified, cowed citizens, but it also embeds itself in our very DNA so that we pass on our fear and compliance to our offspring. It’s called epigenetic inheritance, the transmission through DNA of traumatic experiences. For example, neuroscientists observed that fear can travel through generations of mice DNA. As The Washington Post reports, “Studies on humans suggest that children and grandchildren may have felt the epigenetic impact of such traumatic events such as famine, the Holocaust and the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.”
Weaponizing the future. With greater frequency, the government has been issuing warnings about the dire need to prepare for the dystopian future that awaits us. For instance, the Pentagon training video, “Megacities: Urban Future, the Emerging Complexity,” predicts that by 2030 (coincidentally, the same year that society begins to achieve singularity with the metaverse) the military would be called on to use armed forces to solve future domestic political and social problems. What they’re really talking about is martial law, packaged as a well-meaning and overriding concern for the nation’s security. The chilling five-minute training video paints an ominous picture of the future bedeviled by “criminal networks,” “substandard infrastructure,” “religious and ethnic tensions,” “impoverishment, slums,” “open landfills, over-burdened sewers,” a “growing mass of unemployed,” and an urban landscape in which the prosperous economic elite must be protected from the impoverishment of the have nots. “We the people” are the have-nots.
The end goal of these mind control campaigns—packaged in the guise of the greater good—is to see how far the American people will allow the government to go in re-shaping the country in the image of a totalitarian police state.

ok since i've been sharing some piracy stuff i'll talk a bit about how my personal music streaming server is set up. the basic idea is: i either buy my music on bandcamp or download it on soulseek. all of my music is stored on an external hard drive connected to a donated laptop that's next to my house's internet router. this laptop is always on, and runs software that lets me access and stream my any song in my collection to my phone or to other computers. here's the detailed setup:
my home server is an old thinkpad laptop with a broken keyboard that was donated to me by a friend. it runs yunohost, a linux distribution that makes it simpler to reuse old computers as servers in this way: it gives you a nice control panel to install and manage all kinds of apps you might want to run on your home server, + it handles the security part by having a user login page & helping you install an https certificate with letsencrypt.
Tumblr media
***
to stream my music collection, i use navidrome. this software is available to install from the yunohost control panel, so it's straightforward to install. what it does is take a folder with all your music and lets you browse and stream it, either via its web interface or through a bunch of apps for android, ios, etc.. it uses the subsonic protocol, so any app that says it works with subsonic should work with navidrome too.
Tumblr media
***
to listen to my music on my phone, i use DSub. It's an app that connects to any server that follows the subsonic API, including navidrome. you just have to give it the address of your home server, and your username and password, and it fetches your music and allows you to stream it. as mentionned previously, there's a bunch of alternative apps for android, ios, etc. so go take a look and make your pick. i've personally also used and enjoyed substreamer in the past. here are screenshots of both:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
***
to listen to my music on my computer, i use tauon music box. i was a big fan of clementine music player years ago, but it got abandoned, and the replacement (strawberry music player) looks super dated now. tauon is very new to me, so i'm still figuring it out, but it connects to subsonic servers and it looks pretty so it's fitting the bill for me.
Tumblr media
***
to download new music onto my server, i use slskd which is a soulseek client made to run on a web server. soulseek is a peer-to-peer software that's found a niche with music lovers, so for anything you'd want to listen there's a good chance that someone on soulseek has the file and will share it with you. the official soulseek client is available from the website, but i'm using a different software that can run on my server and that i can access anywhere via a webpage, slskd. this way, anytime i want to add music to my collection, i can just go to my server's slskd page, download the files, and they directly go into the folder that's served by navidrome.
slskd does not have a yunohost package, so the trick to make it work on the server is to use yunohost's reverse proxy app, and point it to the http port of slskd 127.0.0.1:5030, with the path /slskd and with forced user authentification. then, run slskd on your server with the --url-base slskd, --no-auth (it breaks otherwise, so it's best to just use yunohost's user auth on the reverse proxy) and --no-https (which has no downsides since the https is given by the reverse proxy anyway)
Tumblr media
***
to keep my music collection organized, i use beets. this is a command line software that checks that all of the tags on your music are correct and puts the file in the correct folder (e.g. artist/album/01 trackname.mp3). it's a pretty complex program with a ton of features and settings, i like it to make sure i don't have two copies of the same album in different folders, and to automatically download the album art and the lyrics to most tracks, etc. i'm currently re-working my config file for beets, but i'd be happy to share if someone is interested.
Tumblr media
that's my little system :) i hope it gives the inspiration to someone to ditch spotify for the new year and start having a personal mp3 collection of their own.

The “worst nightmares” about artificial intelligence-generated child sexual abuse images are coming true and threaten to overwhelm the internet, a safety watchdog has warned.
The Internet Watch Foundation (IWF) said it had found nearly 3,000 AI-made abuse images that broke UK law.
The UK-based organisation said existing images of real-life abuse victims were being built into AI models, which then produce new depictions of them.
It added that the technology was also being used to create images of celebrities who have been “de-aged” and then depicted as children in sexual abuse scenarios. Other examples of child sexual abuse material (CSAM) included using AI tools to “nudify” pictures of clothed children found online.
The IWF had warned in the summer that evidence of AI-made abuse was starting to emerge but said its latest report had shown an acceleration in use of the technology. Susie Hargreaves, the chief executive of the IWF, said the watchdog’s “worst nightmares have come true”.
“Earlier this year, we warned AI imagery could soon become indistinguishable from real pictures of children suffering sexual abuse, and that we could start to see this imagery proliferating in much greater numbers. We have now passed that point,” she said.
“Chillingly, we are seeing criminals deliberately training their AI on real victims’ images who have already suffered abuse. Children who have been raped in the past are now being incorporated into new scenarios because someone, somewhere, wants to see it.”
The IWF said it had also seen evidence of AI-generated images being sold online.
Its latest findings were based on a month-long investigation into a child abuse forum on the dark web, a section of the internet that can only be accessed with a specialist browser.
It investigated 11,108 images on the forum, with 2,978 of them breaking UK law by depicting child sexual abuse.
AI-generated CSAM is illegal under the Protection of Children Act 1978, which criminalises the taking, distribution and possession of an “indecent photograph or pseudo photograph” of a child. The IWF said the vast majority of the illegal material it had found was in breach of the Protection of Children Act, with more than one in five of those images classified as category A, the most serious kind of content, which can depict rape and sexual torture.
The Coroners and Justice Act 2009 also criminalises non-photographic prohibited images of a child, such as cartoons or drawings.
The IWF fears that a tide of AI-generated CSAM will distract law enforcement agencies from detecting real abuse and helping victims.
“If we don’t get a grip on this threat, this material threatens to overwhelm the internet,” said Hargreaves.
Dan Sexton, the chief technology officer at the IWF, said the image-generating tool Stable Diffusion – a publicly available AI model that can be adjusted to help produce CSAM – was the only AI product being discussed on the forum.
“We have seen discussions around the creation of content using Stable Diffusion, which is openly available software.”
Stability AI, the UK company behind Stable Diffusion, has said it “prohibits any misuse for illegal or immoral purposes across our platforms, and our policies are clear that this includes CSAM”.
The government has said AI-generated CSAM will be covered by the online safety bill, due to become law imminently, and that social media companies would be required to prevent it from appearing on their platforms.

Internet Solutions: A Comprehensive Comparison of AWS, Azure, and Zimcom
When it comes to finding a managed cloud services provider, businesses often turn to the industry giants: Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Microsoft Azure. These tech powerhouses offer highly adaptable platforms with a wide range of services. However, the question that frequently perplexes businesses is, "Which platform truly offers the best value for internet solutions Surprisingly, the answer may not lie with either of them. It is essential to recognize that AWS, Azure, and even Google are not the only options available for secure cloud hosting.
In this article, we will conduct a comprehensive comparison of AWS, Azure, and Zimcom, with a particular focus on pricing and support systems for internet solutions.
Pricing Structure: AWS vs. Azure for Internet Solutions
AWS for Internet Solutions: AWS is renowned for its complex pricing system, primarily due to the extensive range of services and pricing options it offers for internet solutions. Prices depend on the resources used, their types, and the operational region. For example, AWS's compute service, EC2, provides on-demand, reserved, and spot pricing models. Additionally, AWS offers a free tier that allows new customers to experiment with select services for a year. Despite its complexity, AWS's granular pricing model empowers businesses to tailor services precisely to their unique internet solution requirements.
Azure for Internet Solutions:
Microsoft Azure's pricing structure is generally considered more straightforward for internet solutions. Similar to AWS, it follows a pay-as-you-go model and charges based on resource consumption. However, Azure's pricing is closely integrated with Microsoft's software ecosystem, especially for businesses that extensively utilize Microsoft software.
For enterprise customers seeking internet solutions, Azure offers the Azure Hybrid Benefit, enabling the use of existing on-premises Windows Server and SQL Server licenses on the Azure platform, resulting in significant cost savings. Azure also provides a cost management tool that assists users in budgeting and forecasting their cloud expenses.
Transparent Pricing with Zimcom’s Managed Cloud Services for Internet Solutions:
Do you fully understand your cloud bill from AWS or Azure when considering internet solutions? Hidden costs in their invoices might lead you to pay for unnecessary services.
At Zimcom, we prioritize transparent and straightforward billing practices for internet solutions. Our cloud migration and hosting services not only offer 30-50% more cost-efficiency for internet solutions but also outperform competing solutions.
In conclusion, while AWS and Azure hold prominent positions in the managed cloud services market for internet solutions, it is crucial to consider alternatives such as Zimcom. By comparing pricing structures and support systems for internet solutions, businesses can make well-informed decisions that align with their specific requirements. Zimcom stands out as a compelling choice for secure cloud hosting and internet solutions, thanks to its unwavering commitment to transparent pricing and cost-efficiency.

The latest version of the Kids Online Safety Act (KOSA) is focused on removing online information that people need to see—people of all ages. Letting governments—state or federal—decide what information anyone needs to see is a dangerous endeavor. On top of that, this bill, supposedly designed to protect our privacy, actually requires tech companies to collect more data on internet users than they already do.
I have long supported comprehensive privacy protections, but the details matter. KOSA gets the details consistently wrong.
Although KOSA has been revamped since lawmakers introduced it in February, and improved slightly, it’s still a dangerous bill that presents censorship and surveillance as a solution to some legitimate, and some not-so-legitimate, issues facing young internet users today.
The Good
KOSA is a sweeping update to the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act, also known as COPPA. COPPA is the reason that many websites and platforms ask for you to confirm your age, and why many services require their users to be older than 13—because the laws protecting data privacy are much stricter for children than they are for adults. Legislators have been hoping to expand COPPA for years, and there have been good proposals to do so. KOSA, for its part, includes some good ideas: more people should be protected by privacy laws, and the bill expands COPPA’s protections to include minors under 16. That would do a world of good, in theory: the more people we can protect under COPPA, the better. But why stop with protecting the privacy of minors under 16? EFF has long supported comprehensive data privacy legislation for all users.
Another good provision in KOSA would compel sites to allow minor users to delete their account and their personal data, and restrict the sharing of their geolocation data, as well as provide notice if they are tracking it. Again, EFF thinks all users—regardless of their age—should have these protections, and expanding them incrementally is better than the status quo.
The Bad
But KOSA’s chief focus is not to protect young people’s privacy. The bill’s main aim is to censor a broad swath of speech in response to concerns that young people are spending too much time on social media, and too often encountering harmful content. KOSA requires sites to “prevent and mitigate mental health disorders,” including by the promotion or exacerbation of “self-harm, suicide, eating disorders, and substance use disorders.” Make no mistake: this is a requirement that platforms censor content.
This sweeping set of content restrictions wouldn’t just apply to Facebook or Instagram. Platforms covered by KOSA include “any online platform that connects to the internet and that is used, or is reasonably likely to be used, by a minor.” As we said before, this would likely encompass everything from Apple’s iMessage and Signal to web browsers, email applications and VPN software, as well as platforms like Reddit, Facebook, and TikTok—platforms with wildly different user bases and uses, and with hugely varying abilities, and expectations, to monitor content.
A huge number of online services would thus be forced to make a choice: overfilter to ensure no one encounters content that could be construed as ambiguously harmful, or raise the age limit for users to 17. Many platforms may even do both.
Let’s be clear about the dangerous consequences of KOSA’s censorship. Under its vague standard, both adults and children will not be able to access medical and health information online. This is because it will be next to impossible for a website to make case-by-case decisions about which content promotes self-harm or other disorders and which ones provide necessary health information and advice to those suffering from them. This will disparately impact children who lack the familial, social, financial, or other means to obtain health information elsewhere. (Research has shown that a large majority of young people have used the internet for health-related research.)
Another example: KOSA also requires these services to ensure that young people do not see content that exacerbates a substance use disorder. On the face of it, that might seem fairly simple: just delete content that talks about drugs, or hide it from young people. But how do you find and label such content? Put simply: not all content that talks about drugs exacerbates their use.
There is no realistic way to find and filter only that content without also removing a huge swath of content that is beneficial. For just one example, social media posts describing how to use naloxone, a medication that can reverse an overdose from opioids, could be viewed as either promoting self-harm, because it can reduce the potential danger of a fatal overdose, or as providing necessary health information. But KOSA’s vague standard means that a website owner is in a better position legally if they remove that information, which avoids a potential claim later that the information is harmful. That will reduce the availability of important and potentially life-saving information online. KOSA pushes website owners toward government-approved censorship.
The Ugly
To ensure that users are the correct age, KOSA compels vast data collection efforts that perversely result in even greater potential privacy invasions.
KOSA would authorize a federal study on creating a device or operating system level age verification system, “including the need for potential hardware and software changes.” The end result would likely be an elaborate age-verification system, run by a third-party, that maintains an enormous database of all internet users’ data.
Many of the risks of such a program are obvious. They require every user—including children—to hand private data over to a third-party simply to use a website if that user ever wants to see beyond the government’s “parental” controls.
Moreover, the bill lets Congress decide what’s appropriate for children to view online. This verification scheme would make it much harder for actual parents to make individual choices for their own children. Because it’s so hard to differentiate between minors having discussions about many of these topics in a way that encourages them, as opposed to a way that discourages them, the safest course of action for services under this bill is to block all discussion and viewing of these topics by younger children and teenagers. If KOSA passes, instead of allowing parents to make the decision about what young people will see online, Congress will do it for them.
A recent study on attitudes toward age verification showed that most parents “are willing to make an exception or allow their child to bypass the age requirement altogether, but then require direct oversight of the account or discussions about how to use the app safely.” Many also fudge the numbers a bit, to ensure that websites don’t have the specific birthdays of their children. With the hard-wired, national age verification system imagined by KOSA, it will be much harder, if not impossible, for parents to decide for themselves what sites and content a young person can encounter. Instead, the algorithm will do it for them.
KOSA also fails to recognize the reality that some parents do not always have their childrens’ best interest in mind, or are unable to make appropriate decisions for them. Those children suffer under KOSA’s paternal regime, which requires services to set parental controls to their highest levels for those under thirteen.
KOSA is a Poor Substitute for Real Privacy Online
KOSA’s attempt to improve privacy and safety will in fact have negative impacts on both. Instead of using super-powered age-verification to determine who gets the most privacy, and then using that same determination to restrict access to huge amounts of content, Congress should focus on creating strict privacy safeguards for everyone. Real privacy protections that prohibit data collection without opt-in consent address the concerns about children’s privacy while rendering age-verification unnecessary. Congress should get serious about protecting privacy and pass legislation that creates a strong, comprehensive privacy floor with robust enforcement tools.

internet censorship bill about to pass congress:
ao3 is facing a ddos attack from an overseas right-wing anonymous group because it contains "degeneracy and disgusting things like LGBT and NSFW".
they're not the only right-wing group that is attacking fanfiction sites because of queer & nsfw content. the Heritage foundation, the US right wing think tank that writes laws for republicans, wrote an article about how "big tech turns kids trans" in which they're advocating for the Kid's Online Safety Act to pass because it will give state attorney generals power to sue websites for "potentially harmful content towards minors". in this article they point out websites like wattpad, tumblr, tiktok, twitter as sites that GOP attorney generals can and will target for censorship if this bill passes. all places where fandom, that's mostly queer, hangs out.
if you think this bill has no chance of passing because of all the red flags it poses, think again. it currently has 38 cosponsors in the senate, and is being pushed by the democrats as a "protecting the children!!" type bill.
there are left-aligned orgs in congress rn lobbying for this bill to pass. july is extremely decisive, because if KOSA goes through to markup it'll be bundled with the Earn It act, Restrict, and all the other bad internet bills and passed as a package, completely censoring the internet forever.
if you want to learn more about the bill, go here. also sign the open letter against it here
it's ESSENTIAL that you call your members of congress, specifically Maria Cantwell (you can call from out of state) and tell them DO NOT PASS KOSA. this site here connects you to your members of congress and gives you a short simple script to read off of! super easy and doesn't take much out of your day! please do this now!!

How a Web Development Company Builds Scalable SaaS Platforms
Building a SaaS (Software as a Service) platform isn't just about writing code—it’s about designing a product that can grow with your business, serve thousands of users reliably, and continuously evolve based on market needs. Whether you're launching a CRM, learning management system, or a niche productivity tool, scalability must be part of the plan from day one.
That’s why a professional Web Development Company brings more than just technical skills to the table. They understand the architectural, design, and business logic decisions required to ensure your SaaS product is not just functional—but scalable, secure, and future-proof.
1. Laying a Solid Architectural Foundation
The first step in building a scalable SaaS product is choosing the right architecture. Most development agencies follow a modular, service-oriented approach that separates different components of the application—user management, billing, dashboards, APIs, etc.—into layers or even microservices.
This ensures:
Features can be developed and deployed independently
The system can scale horizontally (adding more servers) or vertically (upgrading resources)
Future updates or integrations won’t require rebuilding the entire platform
Development teams often choose cloud-native architectures built on platforms like AWS, Azure, or GCP for their scalability and reliability.
2. Selecting the Right Tech Stack
Choosing the right technology stack is critical. The tech must support performance under heavy loads and allow for easy development as your team grows.
Popular stacks for SaaS platforms include:
Frontend: React.js, Vue.js, or Angular
Backend: Node.js, Django, Ruby on Rails, or Laravel
Databases: PostgreSQL or MongoDB for flexibility and performance
Infrastructure: Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines for automation
A skilled agency doesn’t just pick trendy tools—they choose frameworks aligned with your app’s use case, team skills, and scaling needs.
3. Multi-Tenancy Setup
One of the biggest differentiators in SaaS development is whether the platform is multi-tenant—where one codebase and database serve multiple customers with logical separation.
A web development company configures multi-tenancy using:
Separate schemas per tenant (isolated but efficient)
Shared databases with tenant identifiers (cost-effective)
Isolated instances for enterprise clients (maximum security)
This architecture supports onboarding multiple customers without duplicating infrastructure—making it cost-efficient and easy to manage.
4. Building Secure, Scalable User Management
SaaS platforms must support a range of users—admins, team members, clients—with different permissions. That’s why role-based access control (RBAC) is built into the system from the start.
Key features include:
Secure user registration and login (OAuth2, SSO, MFA)
Dynamic role creation and permission assignment
Audit logs and activity tracking
This layer is integrated with identity providers and third-party auth services to meet enterprise security expectations.
5. Ensuring Seamless Billing and Subscription Management
Monetization is central to SaaS success. Development companies build subscription logic that supports:
Monthly and annual billing cycles
Tiered or usage-based pricing models
Free trials and discounts
Integration with Stripe, Razorpay, or other payment gateways
They also ensure compliance with global standards (like PCI DSS for payment security and GDPR for user data privacy), especially if you're targeting international customers.
6. Performance Optimization from Day One
Scalability means staying fast even as traffic and data grow. Web developers implement:
Caching systems (like Redis or Memcached)
Load balancers and auto-scaling policies
Asynchronous task queues (e.g., Celery, RabbitMQ)
CDN integration for static asset delivery
Combined with code profiling and database indexing, these enhancements ensure your SaaS stays performant no matter how many users are active.
7. Continuous Deployment and Monitoring
SaaS products evolve quickly—new features, fixes, improvements. That’s why agencies set up:
CI/CD pipelines for automated testing and deployment
Error tracking tools like Sentry or Rollbar
Performance monitoring with tools like Datadog or New Relic
Log management for incident response and debugging
This allows for rapid iteration and minimal downtime, which are critical in SaaS environments.
8. Preparing for Scale from a Product Perspective
Scalability isn’t just technical—it’s also about UX and support. A good development company collaborates on:
Intuitive onboarding flows
Scalable navigation and UI design systems
Help center and chatbot integrations
Data export and reporting features for growing teams
These elements allow users to self-serve as the platform scales, reducing support load and improving retention.
Conclusion
SaaS platforms are complex ecosystems that require planning, flexibility, and technical excellence. From architecture and authentication to billing and performance, every layer must be built with growth in mind. That’s why startups and enterprises alike trust a Web Development Company to help them design and launch SaaS solutions that can handle scale—without sacrificing speed or security.
Whether you're building your first SaaS MVP or upgrading an existing product, the right development partner can transform your vision into a resilient, scalable reality.

How To Make Sure Information On Your Old Computer Is Really, Truly Deleted
It Isn’t As Simple As Pressing ‘Delete’ And Emptying The Trash. Here’s A Step-By-Step Guide.
— By Sean Captain | June 17, 2025 | The Wall Street Journal (WSJ)
Tumblr media
Illustration: Jon Krause
Spring-cleaning season is almost done, and it is time to finally get rid of that old computer. But be very careful before you sell, give away or recycle it.
You could be handing over sensitive information.
Even if you think you deleted everything on it, your old computer may hold lots of personal items you don’t want anyone seeing. In a 2019 study by the University of Hertfordshire (funded by security tech-reviews site Comparitech), researchers purchased 200 used hard drives from the U.S. and U.K. An analysis found data remaining on 59% of the drives, including passport and driver’s license scans, bank statements, utility bills and “intimate photos.”
Just pressing “delete” and emptying the Trash in macOS or the Recycle Bin in Windows won’t do the trick. That’s because your computer maintains an index of where every file resides. Deleting a file erases only its entry in the index, telling your system that it can put new files in that space. But until the system actually does put new files there, the old ones remain accessible. Simple consumer-level file-recovery apps can get at it—never mind professional-grade forensic software.
Here’s how to make sure your data is really gone—even on a computer that won’t start up.
Back-up And Log Out
Start by backing up anything you want to keep. You could drag files onto an external hard drive or use backup software such as the Time Machine app in macsOS. You can also back up to the cloud using Microsoft OneDrive, Apple iCloud, Google Drive, Dropbox or other services. (Don’t empty the Trash or Recycling bin. The wipe process will take care of this.)
Next, log out of applications or games with an online component, so the license is no longer associated with your old computer. Also do this for services like Gmail or Facebook, and web browsers like Chrome that sync your data online—on the admittedly remote chance that an incomplete wipe allows the next owner to access those accounts.
Another step for any type of computer is making sure your files are encrypted—scrambled in a mathematical operation based on very long strings of random numbers and letters called encryption keys. The wiping process will delete the keys to make sure any files that may remain on the machine are unreadable.
What you do next depends on your operating system.
Clearing Out A PC
Windows 10 and the current Windows 11 have a feature called “Reset this PC,” which, with the right settings, thoroughly wipes your data. First, make sure your operating system is up-to-date, as Microsoft recently fixed a bug that sometimes caused the reset process to fail. Press the Windows key, search for “updates” and select “Check for updates.” Install any that are available.
Now check on encryption. In Windows 10 or 11 Home editions, press the Windows key and search for “device encryption settings.” Click “Device encryption settings” on the next screen, then make sure the switch next to “Device encryption” is toggled on. Windows Pro, Enterprise and Education editions have an encryption utility called BitLocker. To enable it, click the Start button, type “bitlocker” and select “Manage BitLocker” from the list of results. (All versions of Windows 10 and 11 also encrypt deleted files.)
Now you’re ready to wipe. Tap the Windows key again, search for “Reset this PC,” then click on it. On the next screen, tap “Reset PC” (Windows 11) or “Get started” (Windows 10), and on the following screen, click “Remove everything.” On the next screen, select “Local reinstall.” (If this doesn’t work, try the “Cloud download” option.) Then click “Change settings,” and on the following screen (under “Clean data?”), toggle the switch to “Yes” and press “Confirm.” On the following screen, press “Next” (Windows 11) or “Reset” (Windows 10). On Windows 11, you will press “Reset” on one more screen. Then let the process run for a few hours.
“Reset this PC” deletes your files, apps and settings, logs you out of your Microsoft account and disables the “Find My Device” feature so the computer is no longer associated with you. Then the serious wiping starts. The encryption keys are deleted, making any encrypted data irretrievably scrambled, and the Clean data option overwrites the ones and zeros that had encoded data on your drive. A clean copy of Windows is also installed.
The MacOS Method
Apple’s “Erase Assistant” feature made its debut in 2021’s macOS 12 Monterey. If your current OS is older, you may be able to update it. To update an older OS to Monterey or a later one, click the Apple menu, then “System Preferences” and “Software Update.” If the update process doesn’t work, jump to “If all else fails” below for another option.
As with Windows, the “Erase All Content & Settings” process should start with encryption. On newer Macs (starting between 2018 and 2020, depending on the model), data is encrypted automatically. Just to be safe, though, turn on a feature called FileVault that adds encryption to older systems and an extra layer to newer ones. Click the Apple icon, then “System Settings” (or “System Preferences” in Monterey). In the next window, click “Privacy & Security” (or “Security & Privacy”), then click FileVault.
Now it is time to wipe. Click again on the Apple icon and “System Settings” (or “System Preferences”), click “General” on the left, then “Transfer or Reset” on the bottom right. Finally, on the next screen, click “Erase All Content & Settings.” (In Monterey, you’ll go there directly from “System Preferences.”)
This process signs you out of Apple services, turns off the “Find My” and “Activation Lock” security measures so that the system is no longer associated with you, and erases all your files, settings, apps and anything else. It deletes the encryption keys, permanently scrambling any data that remains.
If All Else Fails
If your PC or Mac is so old that it can’t run a modern wipe process, you have one more option before seeking pro help. For Windows, several experts recommended the KillDisk app. The $49.95 Professional version runs from a USB drive and overwrites the ones and zeros that encode data on your hard drive with all zeros. Afterward, your computer will no longer boot into Windows unless you reinstall the OS.
For a Mac, your best option is a complex process that Apple describes online.
If these processes sound too complicated, or if your system won’t even turn on, use Apple’s recycling program for Macs or a disposal company that offers hard-drive destruction (or shredding) and recycling for consumers with either type of system. Look for ones that issue a certificate of destruction to verify the process. For instance, Ship ‘N’ Shred accepts drives or whole devices, with prices that include shipping ranging from around $30 to $200.
Modern technology leaves a lot of digital footprints, but at least you can sweep them off your old computer.

Cloud Platforms Testing at GQAT Tech: Powering Scalable, Reliable Apps
In today's digital world, most companies use the cloud to host their software, store their data, and provide users with seamless experiences and interactions, meaning their cloud-based systems have to be fast and secure (it could be an e-commerce site, a mobile app, or corporate software platform) and be able to provide a robust reliable level of service that does not fail. All this hard work to develop a cloud-based application means nothing if the application is not subjected to testing and verification to work properly in different cloud environments.
Credit should be given to GQAT Tech for making cloud platform testing a core competency, as the entire QA team tests applications in the cloud, on cloud-based platforms, i.e., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, or Private Cloud, while testing for performance, security, scalability, and functionality.
Now, let's explore the definition of cloud platform testing, what it is, why it is important, and how GQAT Tech can help your company be successful in the cloud.
What Is Cloud Platform Testing?
Cloud platform testing provides validation of whether a web or mobile application will function correctly in a cloud-based environment (as compared to on a physical server).
It involves testing how well your app runs on services like:
Amazon Web Services (AWS)
Microsoft Azure
Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
IBM Cloud
Private/Hybrid cloud setups
The goal is to ensure your app is:
Scalability - Will it support more users over time with no performance degradation?
Improve security - Is my data protected from being compromised/attacked?
Stability - Is it repeatably functioning (no crashing or errors)?
Speed - Is the load time fast enough for users worldwide?
Cost - Is it utilizing cloud resources efficiently?
GQAT Tech’s Cloud Testing Services
GQAT Tech employs a hybrid process of manual testing, automated scripts, and real cloud environments to validate/applications in the most representative manner. The QA team manages real-time performance, availability, and security across systems.
Services Offered:
Functional Testing on Cloud
Validates that your app will behave in an appropriate way while hosted on different cloud providers.
Performance & Load Testing
Validates how your app behaves when 10, 100, or 10,000 users are accessing it at the same time.
Scalability Testing
Validates whether your app is capable of scaling up or down based on usage.
Security Testing
Validates for vulnerabilities specific to clouds: data leak vulnerabilities, misconfigured access, and DDoS risks.
Disaster Recovery & Backup Validation
Validates whether systems can be restored after failure or downtime.
Cross-Platform Testing
Validates your application's performance across AWS, Azure, GCP, and Private Cloud Systems.
Why Cloud Testing Is Important
By not testing your application in the cloud, you expose yourself to significant risks such as:
App crashes when usage is highest
Data loss because of inadequate backup
Cloud bills that are expensive due to inefficient usage
Security breaches due to weaker settings
Downtime that impacts customer frustration
All of these situations can be prevented and you can ensure your app runs smoothly every day with cloud testing.
Tools Used by GQAT Tech
GQAT Tech uses advanced tools for cloud testing:
Apache JMeter – Load testing and stress testing
Postman – API testing for cloud services
Selenium / Appium – Automated UI testing
K6 & Gatling – Performance testing
AWS/Azure/GCP Test Environments – Real cloud validation
CI/CD Pipelines (Jenkins, GitHub Actions) – Continuous cloud-based testing
Who Needs Cloud Platform Testing?
GQAT Tech works with startups, enterprises, and SaaS providers across industries like:
E-commerce
Healthcare
Banking & FinTech
Logistics & Travel
IoT & Smart Devices
Education & LMS platforms
If your product runs in the cloud, you need to test it in the cloud—and that’s exactly what GQAT does.
Conclusion
Cloud computing provides flexibility, speed, and power—but only if your applications are tested and validated appropriately. With GQAT Tech's cloud platform testing services, you can be confident that your application will work as required under all real-world environments.
They will help eliminate downtime, enhance app performance, protect user data and help optimize cloud expenditure—so you can expand your business without concern.

Tired of Paying for Tools? These 40 Open-Source Alternatives Have You Covered?
Let’s be real for a second.
We’ve all been there—mid-project, mid-semester, or mid-burnout—when a paid tool throws up a paywall and asks for $19.99/month just to export your file. It stings, especially when you’re trying to keep your budget lean.
Tumblr media
But here’s the good news: the open-source community has your back. 💪 There are dozens of completely free, insanely powerful tools that can do (almost) everything their paid counterparts can—without locking your best features behind a subscription.
Whether you're a freelancer, student, startup founder, or just someone who loves great software, this list is your new toolbox.
🚀 Why Open-Source Is the Underdog That Wins Before we dive in, let’s clarify something: Open-source ≠ low quality. In fact, some of the world’s biggest companies (Google, NASA, Netflix) use open-source tools every day. These aren’t sketchy knockoffs—they’re community-powered, security-tested, and constantly evolving.
Now, let’s talk about the 40 free tools that could save you hundreds—or even thousands—of dollars a year.
🧠 Smart Swaps for Everyday Tools
LibreOffice → Ditch Microsoft Office Docs, Sheets, Presentations—all offline, all free.
