THE DAY I MET SHANNEN

We've always loved Shannen Doherty, actress, activist, author and director. First we noticed her when we were maybe around 9, watching "Beverly Hills 90210" at granny's.

Earlier this year we knew she was going to be in Europe - Paris and Wales - for some conventions. So it was now or never! My sister and I decided to go to the Paris Manga Scifi Show, the first time we attended such an event like this.

We bought the ticket... Wait, no, we bought the extra photoshot but not the actual ticket and we didn't know! So run and buy a ticket. I was actually panicking, what if there are none left? Luckily there were tickets...

We didn't know how this thing worked as it was the first time we attended, so we just bought to have a photo with her (not autograph, not meet & greet, not group photos), and then we were told there was a conference at noon, included in the ticket, and then after that, there were the photos with her.

It was morning time so we just strolled around the place, it was great, filled with many Japanese/manga stuff and also classic cars from classic films, and shops selling beautiful things. We had an early lunch and off to the conference we go!!!!

It was great to see these people there, these actors that we spend many evenings with, watching their characters and stories to grow, change, facing enemies, loving each other...

The bond between Shannen and Rose was amazing, and while Shannen and Holly were in good terms, Shannen and Rose had a very big connection. Brian and Drew were very funny!

They were asked about a new show or film. They were saying they didn't know but you couldn't believe them! then Shannen said all of them would like to but it was not up to them, so I guess they have to find great producers and writers. The show finished many years ago and there are still many fans out there, young and old! the fact that the sisters in the show had to hide that they were Witches, opened the door to many fans who were struggling with their identity or illnesses that they had to keep as a secret, so it created a bond between these fans and the characters they were watching in the show.

I think they could do a double Power of three... the three alive sisters (Paige, Piper and Phoebe); and the three dead ones (Prue, their mum, and their grandmother)

Also Shannen was asked if she knew she was going to leave the show before or after the final episode was filmed, and if the other cast members knew. She said she will have a podcast and she will explain everything there. Also she said she would like to have had Prue and Paige being together, so I think or either it would have been the 4 sisters, or someone else had to leave... (this she didn't say).

Also they were asked if a famous person was fan of the show, and Holly said Julia Roberts said it to her when they met at "Ocean's 11" film premiere. Shannen said something and Holly snapped "You were there!". You actually don't know if Holly was speaking like Piper, or Piper was speaking like Holly the whole time! haha

And then it was THE TIME!

Me. This was actually in the morning. We were told individual shots were in the afternoon...

We waited all this time, from January/February, for this moment. When I saw her, when 2 or 3 people before me were having their photos taken, I got so excited!!!! I couldn't believe she was there!!! Then my sister... and then ME!!!!!

I told her "I love you"and I hugged her, photo, and said goodbye stretching my arm to her and moving my hand to her... and that was it!!!! so short!!!! she even didn't know my name nor anyting!!! but she was so sweet and lovely!!!

So yeah, for the next time, autographs, meet & greet, and group photos MUST be included haha

I recommend it to everyone, if you can go to Wales or Indiana, please go!

April 2023 - Jane Asher as Lady Catherine "Kitty" Champion-Cheney in W. Somerset Maugham's "The Circle", running at Orange Tree Theatre in Richmond, London, from April 29 to June 17, 2023. This photo was sent to my email account from the theatre thanking me and my sister for having seen the production, directed by Tom Litter at his debut as an artistic director of Orange tree Theatre.

Seeing Jane on the stage has been a dream to me since the late 1990s when I knew about her (I think it was late 1990s anyway). But because I was little, my English wasn't good, studies, work, etc, it looked it was an impossible task. And every time there was a stage production in which she was performing, I sighed and thought "Hopefully next time!".

Then we watched the recorded version of "An American in Paris" when it was played in cinemas in Barcelona in 2018... and the pandemic came, thinking maybe I would never be able to see her live on the stage!

So luckily when the world came back to normal (more or less) and saw this production, I told my sister this was the time to go... I also asked Pri from @lady-jane-asher if she could come with us, but it was impossible for her this time.

Anyway, we bought the tickets, we also purchased a program, and we wrote a little postcard for Jane. We gave it to a lady who was working there when we came in:

And here's some photos of me that my sis took outside the venue that morning (we spent the day to the Kew Gardens nearby, it was a very lovely day!):

And then in the evening we went to see the play!!! It was very funny, you laughed with the characters, you suffered with them... seeing lovely Jane on the stage doing what she loves and what she's best at is priceless. She was very good, all of them were.

We were sitting in the first row (of course! haha) and we got this little gift, a thankful note, to have supported the play, the venue, the art.

As you may have heard, our beloved Professor Kaja Foglio—writer, webmistress, and all-around madgirl—has been in and out of the hospital this week for emergency gallbladder surgery + some ambiguous, painful complications thereof. So we haven’t had any new content in a full week, not even a sketch…which means idk about you, but I am both:

jonesing for new Girl Genius content like an addict who, quite literally, is pretty sure I haven’t gone this long without some sort of update since I started reading in 2014, because these people are insanely good at regular delivery; and

very much wanting to send Kaja my support!

So! Do you have a Girl Genius WIP that’s nearly done, or could use an update? For those post... 2010? The Nanny fans who want more fic and haven't discovered this one yet (or those older fans who thought this site was lost), let me introduce you to the Real Unofficial Nanny Home Page (RUNHP). Not online anymore, but well archived on the Internet Archive.

It was my home away from home for much of my teen years. It had screen caps when only a few people had capture cards. It shared interviews, appearances and titbits before we knew how to find them (especially us non-US folks). And it had fanfic. So much fanfic. I have personally archived about 800 stories from there.

Barb was the webmistress of the site, and especially in the beginning, you had to submit your story and she might not publish it. Also, most stories were written during the shows run, which means that most of it is Fran/Max. There is some Niles/CC, and I don't think there are any other pairings (except maybe TN Character/OC). Also, most of it is rated G or T, later stuff might be rated M/E.

Some authors made it over to FF.net (I don't think I know of any besides me who made it to AO3, if there are I would love to know) and republished stories there. But a lot are just on that site. Also, we did a virtual seventh which was quite fun.

Recommended authors: Christine Davis (F/M & N/CC), IvanaBGood (N/CC and the one who opened my eyes to that pairing), and SMB (F/M). If you want angsty teenager-written fic (some self-insert even) written by me, look for Sara (the one with the most fics).

Anyway, if you are craving more fics, if you want to see what people thought while the show was still on the air (and we didn't know even if Fran and Max would get together, let alone Niles and CC), have fun!

NB: There are later snapshots but at some point the encoding got messed up, and there are no newer (or not many at least) fics in later archiving.

POV: Young Royals is an early 2000s Web 1.0 juggernaut megafandom

During my hiatus earlier this week, @heliza24 and I had a conversation about what Young Royals fandom would be like if it were not a modestly-sized tumblr fandom in the 2020s, but rather an early 00s juggernaut megafandom like the kind you saw on livejournal and individual web pages scattered throughout the internet.

Note: the tone here is 100% silly and inspired by a) my personal history in long ago fandoms and b) repeated viewings of fandom history videos by @strange-aeons. The internet had a bit more of a “wild west” feeling back in those days and you will see that reflected in our ideas.

A lightly edited transcript of my conversation with heliza about fanfic archive names and potential early internet dramas follows…

blue: So here’s a topic of discussion YR fandom hasn't done yet. What would each pairing's archive be called if we were watching this show in 2003? I feel like Wilmon would have a few archives, each with a different flavor. Like there'd be a catch-all archive that's pretty friendly and welcoming, an archive just made up of fics where they're adults, and then something for kink and/or dark fic (or those would be separate)

heliza: Our weird multi shipping poly archive is called sprucewood obvs!

blue: Oh there'd probably also be a Wilmon archive that's Edmar RPF-friendly

heliza: One of them would be called The Frog Prince and the Popstar. Maybe that's the RPF favorable one, idk.

blue: Originally was going to say the catch-all, but I think you're right. The catch-all friendly archive would be The Fish Tank.

heliza: Yes love that ahaha. Is the kinky one like Fuck the Monarchy or something like that?

blue: Something like that. Although. Okay there might be two adult archives, but only as a result of an intense fandom schism I feel like there'd be an offshoot of Fuck the Monarchy for people who want King Wilhelm and Prince Consort Simon. Something like King & Consort.

heliza: Ahahah yes perfect. I think there would be a separate Sargust archive! What would you call it?

blue: Yes! With a little cordoned off adult section with its own name. Hmmm I haven't thought of a name yet but I feel like the web design of it would be very Goth.

heliza: Absolutely.

blue: Black backgrounds. Blood red rose incorporated in the web design. Horses, naturally.

heliza: ... The Stables?

blue: Secret Stables

heliza: Yes good

blue: The adult section of the website would be called something extreme like ~Bit & Bridle~

heliza: Perfect

blue: The Stedrika archive is called Lavender Crush because of Stella's hair in S2. It's small but the webmistress is very dedicated and very transparent with her updates.

heliza: yes haha and she's always trying to convert people to femslash. I feel like she would eventually let Sara/Felice and Maddie/Rosh in as well.

blue: I think she co-runs a second site called Manor House which is all YR femmeslash.

heliza: oh right of course

blue: The other webmistress of that site is her wife ten years later.

heliza: Yessss. Strangeaeons makes a video about them. Because there's enough drama but then they end up together

blue: Yes! I think the other mod ran a Rosh and Ayub fan page. Oh there'd be a general fandom archive called Hillerska Skolan Library or something, but it would be a lot of cross-posting. 

blue: I feel like we need a Forest Ridge archive too.

heliza: Is that where the Walty and Nilcent goes?

blue: Yes. And like. Alexander being shipped with various people. I feel like it's 2003 so there's lots of combos. And some Wilhelm/Simon/Henry? It would exist, don't ask me how I know, it's just vibes.

heliza: There's a renegade writer who keeps writing Wilhelm/Nils and one who posts August/Simon and it sends the site into an epic fight because there are some mods who insist that this is for ALL THE BOYS EXCEPT SIMON AND WILHELM. And some of them don't mind.

blue: Omg there'd be a small August/Simon archive too

heliza: The lavender crush people are like "wow those boyslashers are intense"

blue: But it's all cross-posting with Forest Ridge… Oh god. Oh god I just thought of the name of the Simon/August archive help.

heliza: Go on

blue: Ok ok… it's a rowing pun… forgive me… it'd be called… Take Out Your Cox

heliza: АНАНАНАНА INCREDIBLE

blue: There's actually a violent schism among sargusters about whether it's ok to also ship Simon/August or not. This schism lines up almost exactly with one's sargust kink preferences and ability to have a sense of humor.

heliza: "It's incest if you ship both!!!"

blue: If a sargust has written dom August, then they are against Simon/August. If a sargust writes Sara domming or writes them switchy, and they have a sense of humor, they definitely write Simon/August… also is the Forest Ridge archive just called Forest Ridge? Wait. The Forest Ridge Archive is called On The Table.

heliza: Oh yes perfect.

blue: OK ALSO—IT IS 2002 OF COURSE THERE IS AN INCEST ARCHIVE SIGH. "Royal Family Affairs" or something.

heliza: Wilhelm/Erik would be big I think

blue: Wilhelm/Erik, Erik/August, any number of other things. Ok but is it primarily dudeslash. Do they shut out the Kristina/Carl Johan shippers? Is that on fandom_wank?

heliza: I feel like the mods would have to let it on because technically it fits the description. But there would be a side chat bitching about it. Wilhelm/August!!! There would be that too.

blue: The mods who are against Kristina/Carl Johan would bitch in an AlM chatroom. Eventually screencaps are leaked, and the Kristina/Carl Johan people start their own archive called Unfortunate Romance.

blue: Ok one more thing. We need a name for the Felice specific archive. Where the Felice/Wilhelm/Simon polyshippers hang out in abundance. I grant this one to you, heliza.

heliza: Is that not Sprucewood? Or a different name?

blue: I leave it to you!

heliza: We haven't used sprucewood yet so I think we should!

blue: Sounds good to me!

heliza: Or if it's just Felice centered it could be Modern Nobility. I think Sprucewood is a reactionary thing actually, where the mods specifically say that all ships are allowed after drama has gone down at enough of the other sites.

blue: Yes. Sprucewood is also the most poly and kink friendly of the sites.

Transsexuality

A beautiful little website by the iconic Jennipher Diane Reitz on "transsexuality". This website is from 1998, so the content is very outdated and may be seen as offensive to modern viewers. Still it is a wonderful peek into the past of not only transgender information available on the early internet, and into the life of the webmistress.

yay anon is back <3 recently you tagged a photoset with 'webmistress barbiehead' - ive been dying to know more about this mysterious barbiehead figure from the huge pez dispenser tattoo (!!) and the livejournal mentions. i did try to do my own research but i didnt dig up anything. not that i need a name or other invasive personal details, who cares about that, just terminally insatiably curious about anything punk related and lowkey hoped to find some funny anecdote explaining the nickname. so how did you put together that the old cmpunk dotcom webmistress and the elusive barbiehead were one and the same? is there anywhere i can read some tidbit or other? thank you if you choose to answer. <3

Oh man, now you got me wondering if I just made that connection up. I feel like I read something on his website that made me put one and one together but I can't find it now. Anyway I think it makes sense because barbie head also got access to his livejournal and got Joe his livejournal and also in his thank you post he lists her pretty high up but no webmistress and he says she's rad for doing "all this nonsense" for him on his livejournal.
