The first volume of The Steel Claw from Rebellion and their Treasury of British Comics line.

This is the webshop exclusive hardback edition with a great cover by Brian Bolland.

The Steel Claw originally appeared in the Valiant weekly comic and made his debut in the 6th October 1962 issue.

This volume collects that 1st appearance and others till the 21st September 1963 issue plus tales from the Valiant 1965 & 1966 Annuals.

These stories were written by Ken Bulmer and illustrated by Jesus Blasco.

I have to say, all the talk about the Japan exclusive gunpla and people not knowing about Gundam because they don't engage with anything produced outside the west have become hilarious in hindsight after the day I've had.

My journey started when I decided I wanted to find out if my local-ish comics/manga/physical media/figurines/etc. store had any gunpla. To be more specific, I was looking for a HG model kit since I'm new to all this and it seems like a good place to start. So I looked around the store and only managed to find a few anime collections(G Gundam, Seed, Seed Destiny, G-Reco, and 00) on my own.

I try to ask one of the people behind the counter if they sell anything related to Gundam. In return I received a thousand-yard stare and that's barely an exaggeration. Keep in mind this person works in a store that sells manga and anime. In fact the main manga section is located right in front of the counter. This was definitely not a case of someone being uncultured but still drew a black at the mention of Gundam. The other person behind the counter had heard of Gundam though but seemed rather exasperated all of a sudden. What I presume to be one internet search later, everyone gets on the same page. I get told to ask the person downstairs about what I'm looking for.

One trip downstairs later I walk to another counter and wait for the person operating it to return. When that happens I'm immediately asked what I'm looking for and I explain that I want to know if they have any Gundam figurines. I once again receive a black expression, though less extreme this time. After a bit of looking around I'm presented with an SD Gunpla. I try, somewhat poorly, to explain what SD is and politely decline.

So far, so absurd.

My next course of action is to look up if there're any stores that sell gunpla within the country I live in. As far as I have been able to find the only place with a decent supply of gunpla a webshop that has only been active since 2019. It's run by this one dude who went to Japan and decided to bring a couple of model kits and might now be the sole provider of gunpla in the country.

This has been the beginning of Sodasa vs gunpla. The kits I'm most interested in turned out to be more affordable than I thought so this journey of mine is most likely far from over.

Also the fact that I would've had a hard time understanding the vocabulary of the Gundam fandom just a few months ago and look at me now. You guys sure got me initiated fast.

I want to buy 3 schleich horses from this years line up. But I'm going to have to buy them one at a time. So my question is when is the selling period so I know I won't accidentally miss buying one? I tried looking it up myself but it's giving me conflicting information. Thanks in advance!

It changes, but most figures are available for 2 or 3 years before they're retired. Some are retired after 1 year, if they're unpopular, but afaik that's mostly true of wildlife figures? The oldest horse currently in the Schleich webshop is from 2017.

Some retailers will continue carrying figures after they're retired, though, so if a figure was released in 2024, you might have until 2030 before you can only find it second-hand.

This does not include online exclusives, which are never available for more than 2 years. If it's an online exclusive horse you want, it's best to act fast!

A week ago I just steped in a comics shop,one i am familiar with for many years now.Once I noticed this one “Black beth” it got me hooked.

What’s this all about? A dark fantasy,sword and sorcery comic

So it’s by Beth perspective,with a Serious fighting girl that should never stoop to the low as her enemies.If she would become as much Despicable as they are then all these she’s doing are good for nothing! it’s Chilling.

The creative team have crafted Beth being something Higher than any one would call it ‘ a mere poor immitation of Conan the barbarian,or Red Sonja”.The artist has done serious,detailed work on her Boob armor.Besides scientifically such armor works fine:)

Let's play a game to motivate ourselves: I have a bunch of stuff (actually, it's not a "bunch of", it's just "exclusives") in my basket at the Funko Europe webshop. If I can work enough today so my earnings cover the price, I can order them.

That means at least 31K characters. Doable.

When enough is never enough.

No-one could ever accuse Rebellion of being shy when it comes to milking their fanbase. On the one hand, as someone who grew up in and remembers the pre-Rebellion days when obtaining reliable and consistent collections of any 2000AD material was well-nigh impossible (especially living in Australia!), it's nice to see parts of the back catalogue return to print.

On the other, how many definitive editions, apex editions, webshop exclusive editions et merde does anyone actually need?

This latest series is a bit of a double-edged sword. These hardcovers look nice, they're reproduced at what looks like the original size of the art, and there can't be too much Kevin O'Neill or Bryan Talbot art in the world. But after the natural endpoint for the series in Book IV (The Gothic Empire) the series felt like it was struggling for a reason to exist (beyond providing a showcase for Talbot's gorgeous artwork). And post-Talbot, the writing reflected the beginning of Mills's shift to polemic over narrative.

Would I buy these editions? The first two volumes (presumably collecting Books I to IV) seem like a no-brainer, back when Nemesis was a dark and wild sci-fi & sorcery epic with outstanding artwork from O'Neill, Talbot, and the underrated Jesus Redondo. Volume 3 might be worthwhile for Talbot's artwork in Books V & VI, so I'd give that some consideration, too.

But the final two volumes are likely to be fairly lacklustre, with Mills continuing to string the series out across another four books rather than bring it to a satisfying end. And this time even the art can't save it: John Hicklenton's art is dark, visceral and striking, but was never really to my taste; David Roach produced clean, elegant and grounded work, but ultimately felt too normal given what his predecessors had done.

And now I'm not sure who I'm more annoyed with. Rebellion for producing yet another edition of something I already have in a couple of formats, or Pat Mills for not knowing when enough was enough.

KOKIA in flashback - 2009

After her 10th anniversary year, KOKIA does decidedly not take it easier in 2009. She releases two albums on the same day: KOKIA∞AKIKO ~Balance~ and AKIKO∞KOKIA ~Balance~, to celebrate the conclusion of her 10th anniversary year. The AKIKO album is only available via her webshop and at concert venues and is distributed via her own office, anco&co, whereas the KOKIA album is distributed via Victor Entertainment. She explains that the AKIKO album deals more with her ‘inner’ songs, as she feels she is both KOKIA the artist and Akiko the person.

She departs on a world tour this year, called infinity (as the ∞ symbol from her albums is the symbol for infinity), starting in Japan before traveling to France, Ireland, Poland, Belgium and Germany. This results in two concert DVDs: 2009 infinity tour at Tokyo, recording the performance in Tokyo, and Wherever I am, a 3 disc documentary covering her journey and performances abroad.

2009 also marks the start of her Life Trilogy digital singles, with the first two releasing this year. The final one will come out next year.
