Billboard USA Exclusion Zone Episode 10 (04/29/2023)
Tumblr media
This week seems to be pretty busier that one meets the eye. Yes we have some shakeups especially in the top 10 with Idol by Yoasobi surged so high. But, these debuts are just all over the place. Well it's gonna be a blast anyways so let's get to this!
----------------------------------------------------
4. "un x100to" by Grupo Frontera X Bad Bunny
You know since the regional Mexican sound is the biggest musical moment of 2023, I think I will make my stance on the broader genre of Regional Mexican sound. I get the appeal of these type of songs. Yeah it's ramshackled and the mix can be very live version of itself. But, the composition and the instrumentals here reminded me a lot of dangdut or koplo which is the Regional sound of my country. That said, I prefer the accordion one rather than the brass and acoustic bass that Peso Pluma helped popularized.
14. "Daylight" by David Kushner
So apparently this guy is a tiktoker who is making folk pop that wanted to get Hozier to be on this song. All I can say right now is that he's definitely the poor man's Bon Iver with lyrics leftover from Father John Misty's b-side
28. "Chemical" by Post Malone
This is actually quite decent. But, this song is sounded like Fine Line rejects with a bit more inspiration from Tears for Fears.
72. "Princess Diana" by Ice Spice ft. Nicki Minaj
I did listened to Ice Spice debut EP and this is handly the worst song on the album. Getting Nicki Minaj isn't helping this generic ass beat to work y'know. Also I'm kinda mad that In Ha Mood didn't get pushed hard enough.
84. "美しい鰭" by SPITZ
Now we are talking about a veteran alternative rock band getting their first hit ever on the chart. This song is so likeable this is basically why I like J-Pop more that anything else sometimes. The guitar solo is just immaculate as does the production which is I would describe as "RHCP if they chose jazz influence than rap influence".
91. "Peaches" by Jack Black
I will give the Super Mario Bros movie a 7/10 it's a great popcorn movie.
98. "Wish You The Best" by Lewis Capaldi
See this song is the prime example as to why I don't like Lewis Capaldi's writing. There's not enough detail to justify this guy's longing for someone's that he used to love. Glimpse of Us this is not.
138. "El Tonto" by Lola Indigo & Quevedo
I think I can see the differences between Spanish reggaeton and LATAM reggaeton. The main one is the differences in how it's produced. The Spanish one seems to have other influences such as the dance scene in Europe. So that's why you have those sfx sprinkle throughout it.
151. "El Tsurito" by Junior H X Gabito Ballesteros X Peso Pluma
....Huh?????? Why does this sounds like DistantCry made this beat???
157. "See You Again" by Tyler, The Creator ft. Kali Uchis
I'm so glad this song became a viral hit because this is probably one of his best singles ever. The production here has influenced RnB world till this day with the trumpet, the strings, and that heavy hard hitting beat drop. Kali Uchis' breakout performance, the longing from Tyler about his crush is just breathtaking. This is truly one of the best songs of 2017.
170. "Cruel Summer" by Taylor Swift
[Insert the "this should've been a singles" jokes here]. But like can you blame Swifties in this? This song is too good for being a deepcut. The production is probably one of Jack Antonoff's best and yeah it's a great song.
181. "Fragil" by Yahritza y Su Esencia X Grupo Frontera
Remember the trio that gotten viral for their song? Yeah they're back with Grupo Frontera with probably the weakest accordion Regional Mexican song so far.
188. "Seu Brilho Sumiu" by Israel X Rodolffo & Mari Fernandez
Now for Brazilian sound...yeah I don't really get it. I think the percussion is not my thing in general here.
189. "Moonlight" by Kali Uchis
Speaking of Kali Uchis. If the vocals were mixed a bit better this could've been a sexy jam. Instead it's just a good one.
I highly recommend everyone to listen to these songs.

Scrunkore Media "Thread" 2023: Part 6
Tumblr media
the scrunko core has burned out, rebooting
63) Cassette Beasts (PC, 2023)
This is a really cool monster tamer RPG, it came up with a really fun type interaction system and there are are excellent designs in it especially with the eldritch-style bosses, that's super fun. Big fan of the setting and its unique vibe too, if you've played the game you'll know what I mean about that. Great indie I enjoyed my time with, though the romance feels tacked on and I thought the ending was just Fine. [4★]
64) Doctor Who, Series 6-10 (TV, 2011-2017)
Moffat's entire tenure with the greatest TV show in Britain, knocked out within the year, and honestly I think it was quite good. Plenty of flaws, like his messy ambitions, how weird he is about women sometimes, and how some episodes just genuinely fucking suck, but you get that with every era of the show really. The highs are damn high, especially with Capaldi's Doctor in episodes like Heaven Sent and The Doctor Falls, and I think that's enough to outweigh the bad. And I feel like series 10 in particular is often overlooked more than it should be, pretty strong one that is. No rating, but I love Doctor Who when it's good.
65) Mad Rat Dead (Switch, 2020)
MAD RAT MONDAY!!!! I played this game because of the soundtrack, which totally bangs and of course you need that in a rhythm game like this one. Fun one it is too, it has options to make it less challenging and the story is unexpectedly pretty cool. I'm not very good at it, but I beat it and I had a fun time doing so. Rats rule. [4★]
66) Doctor Who: The Lonely Assassins (Switch, 2021)
This is apparently the only good Doctor Who game still officially playable, and yeah, I can see it. Immersing yourself in a mystery contained within a smartphone featuring an iconic monster and fun appearances from existing characters is pretty cool, though it can be kinda janky and there's not that much to it in the end. Certainly an alright experience though. [3★]
67) F-Zero 99 (Switch, 2023)
My only experience with F-Zero so far, the surprise announcement that jumpscared fans of the series before turning out to be a battle royale type game that's actually... kinda good? Chaotic fun with decently engaging gameplay, it's something you pick up and play for a bit before doing something else but don't play for hours once the honeymoon phase wears off. Sure helps add something to NSO, sure hope it doesn't get taken down in a year. [3.5★]
68) Sonic Superstars (PC, 2023)
A good new Sonic game! From Sonic Team! The series really has been popping off lately, and though some people complained about this one, I genuinely think it stands at least close to the classic titles it's following up from. Levels are fun and creative with the only real bullshit being in the optional postgame (which does kind of suck if you're not good), and though the soundtrack has plenty of duds it's still pretty decent overall. Cool cast of playable characters too, and it's great seeing Fang come back, with the new character Trip also being a fun addition. I don't think this is peak Sonic, but for me it was a good time that I enjoyed for the most part. [4★]
69) Super Mario Bros. Wonder (Switch, 2023)
Oh 2D Mario is so fucking back, this takes the formula that the "New" series was running with and gives it a super aggressive shake-up and an injection of creativity that it really needed. It has a really nice visual look, actually cool level design that is great to run through, fun powers, and a large roster of playable characters including Daisy finally. Not to mention it sounds good, the music is a great important part of it and the talking flowers in every level are honestly just fun. One of the best platformers on Switch right now, I like it more than Odyssey honestly. [5★]
70) Shaun the Sheep: Farmageddon (Movie, 2019)
Bit of a silly watch this was, but in all honesty I'll always be a fan of Aardman's work and this is a pretty fun movie that all ages can enjoy whether they like Shaun the Sheep or not. It's animated as well as you'd expect, does some cute stuff, and honestly I kinda like the music in it too. Just a funny little adventure with that silly sheep and his weird cute alien friend. [3.5★]
71) Suika Game (Switch, 2023)
Suika Game.
72) Mario Kart 8 Deluxe: Booster Course Pass (Switch DLC, 2022-2023)
Dropping a two-year DLC that doubles the track list and adds a bunch of new characters and balance updates to a Mario Kart game we thought was over was a fucking wild thing to do, but Nintendo did it and honestly it worked out quite well. Sure, it's clearly all Tour ports and a lot of them don't look too hot, but for the sheer quantity of it I don't think I can complain too much. They even chose pretty good tracks for the most part, with only a few favourites being left out that I can only assume will be remade in the next game and therefore end up better than ever. I think the game is actually done now, and I think it's probably the best Mario Kart at this point. Not bad at all. [4★]
73) PLUTO (Anime, 2023)
An anime that took ages to get made, and it shows all the polish that much time of production should have you expect (perhaps too much polish with all those unnecessary digital effects). It's a pretty complete adaptation of a much-praised manga about war, robots and consciousness, some strong science fiction with quite good writing based on an old arc from Tezuka's Astro Boy manga. It's pretty tragic how things turn out for most of the characters, but it's so good how it goes about things, and I think it was worth the wait. One of the best Netflix-distributed anime, I'd say. [4.5★]
74) Super Mario RPG (Switch, 2023)
Geno fans have not shut up for years, so how does his game hold up now that it's been polished up into HD? Not bad, honestly. It's a solid RPG experience with simple yet engaging battle gameplay that laid the foundations for other Mario RPG titles to come, and now it's all shiny and stuff. It's a fun journey through a whimsical Mario setting with the quirks you'd come to expect, apparently a pretty faithful remake with only a few new additions and script edits that it sort of needed. I don't think this game is really that special in 2023, but I liked it plenty. Funny that Geno is barely a character though. [4★]

Note
what is your favourite form of potato?
I’m glad you asked! These are all the different forms of potatoes, ranked worst to best:
18. Potato Salad
Potato salad is the opposite of fruit salad. Number one: mayonnaise. Mayonnaise is the most pointless liquid in the universe, and I like on the same planet as piss. Second off, there’s a right way to do onions and a wrong way. Potato salad does it the wrong way. Overall, potato salad is far too wet. It sticks to my mouth like a blood sucking parasite. However, instead of sucking blood, it just sucks joy.
17. Just a Raw Potato
Too hard. Tastes just like how it looks. I tell raw potatoes just what I told my ex, “call me back when you’ve been near a fire for a long time and also have been lightly salted.
16.  Potato Bread
Why would you do that? This is an offense to nature.
15. Baked Potatoes
Baked potatoes have the flavor of a Lewis Capaldi song. Sure, it’s one of the most basic form of potato, but that’s what makes it so boring. It’s like playing as Mario in Smash.
14. Smashed Potatoes
Mashed potatoes, but with the lovecraftian horror of potato skins in the potatoes added in.
13. Mashed Potatoes
Everytime I eat mashed potatoes I’m disappointed. They look so creamy and frothy and then I eat it and it tastes like how airplanes smell.
12. Hasselback Potatoes
These ain’t much different than baked potatoes, but there’s something about the insane amount of slicing that is so…alluring, sexual perhaps. The amount of slicing is just so utterly ridiculous you know that something must be going on. However, these are just one trick ponies.
11. Gnocchi
Gnocchi tastes good, but their appearance reminds me of maggots.
10. Potato Wedges
What french fries would be like if they were mid.
 9. Potato Skins
I like skin.
8. Potato Chips
Ohhh yeah…now we’re getting into the good stuff. A massive jump up in quality from previous offerings. Who doesn’t like potato chips? They set your mouth on fire, they turn your lips into deserts, they cut your tongue, and it’s amazing.
7. Patatas Bravas
Hey, what if potatoes, but spicy? Absolutely genius idea Spain, gold star for you. These taters will set you on fire in all the best ways, and they may also cure erectile dysfunction. You never know with potatoes. These are, without a doubt, the Kid A of potatoes.
6. Scalloped Potatoes
The answer to the question, what if hasselback potatoes but we added other tricks to the pony? And boy oh boy does this pony have tricks! Cream and onions and sunshine and rainbows and all the love in the world.
5. Hash Browns
How can one bite into a hash brown without instantly being teleported to somewhere where there are a lot of hashbrowns?
4. Latkes
Ain’t no party like a Hanukkah. Obviously, everything is better when you smother it in oil and then set it on fire a bit.
3. Roasted Potatoes
Fuck yeah. I like my potatoes like I like my woman, set on fire for extended periods of time. At least, I assume that’s what roasted means. Nevertheless, roasted potatoes are juicy, succulent delights.
Tater Tots
Now, sure, your ordinary elementary school cafeteria tater tots might not be anything special. However, those fancy deluxe tater tots? Those are to die, kill, maim, torture, and break the geneva convention for. Every bite just oozes with untold amounts of flavor.
Truely, tater tots are the OK Computer of potato forms.
French Fries
One of the greatest foods known to man. One bite of a single french fry is enough to make all your worries melt into a puddle and then fall down the drain. However, it is here that we must rank the various kinds of french fries.
1d. Normal french fries
Great, but ordinary, like a warm blanket or a cup of hot cocoa. Not anything groundbreaking, but enjoyable nonetheless.
1c. Curvy French Fries
I am literally salivating. Oh god…so good.
1b. Waffle French Fries
One of the best things ever created. Second only to…
1a. Garlic French Fries!
Garlic French fries are the best things ever because garlic.
