Yakou and Yuma QuickFic

I've been feeling a little down today, so I decided to write a small drabble/flash fic to try and cheer myself up.

Nothing too whumpy, nothing too emotional or extreme, nothing that drags and nothing too OOC. Just domestic and straight to the point.

Another fairly tame sickfic.

Enjoy.

Warm and Weary

Word Count: 900+

Characters: Yuma Kokohead, Yakou Furio

Genre: Hurt/Comfort, Domestic Fluff, Sickfic

Yuma had just started walking back to the submarine from his outing. He had been investigating the city for a while, helping other people out, and making sure to stay out of the Peacekeeper's sights. But he started to grow a little tired.

Shinigami had told him in a nagging annoying tone to keep going, but he just didn't have it. He felt tired and drained from everything that's happened to him so far and the rain certainly wasn't helping him.

So to make sure he didn't cause any further trouble unexpectedly, he slowly trudged back to the agency and walked up the ramp onto the deck. His legs feeling heavier with every step.

As he stepped down the stairs and out of the humidity of the rain outside and into the cool air conditioning of the entrance of the sub, his temples had started to hurt slightly. Placing a hand to his head with a small look of strain, he walked slowly into the main office removing his rain attire. He really wanted to sit down.

He entered the room to see the agency's boss sitting at his desk reading his newspaper and smoking a cigarette like usual.

"Yuma, welcome back." Yakou said looking up from his reading.

Yuma nodded, hand still to his head "Thank you..."

"You're back a bit earlier than usual, something going on?" the chief asked raising a brow at Yuma's gesture.

Yuma sighed as his head started hurting more. Then he started feeling dizzy and his vision was getting a bit bleary. His legs almost felt like lead, but he somehow still had the strength to stand and kept standing. His body started feeling like it was slightly achy and as he took his hand off his head and looked down at it, there was a clear liquid substance on it. He was sweating.

Putting all these thoughts together as a detective does, Yuma came to a deduction to what might have been wrong. He spoke tiredly, but honestly and calmly.

"Chief, I think I have a fever..."

Yakou looked worried. "Oh, really? Here, lemme see..."

He slowly got up from his chair and walked over to the tired trainee by the doorway. He would have asked Yuma to come to him but seeing how tired Yuma looked, that probably wasn't a good idea. Without a single word more he leaned down slightly and slid his hand under the boy's bangs.

Yuma's deduction was spot on.

"Yeah, you sure do." Yakou said with a frown feeling the warmth of the boy’s forehead.

“Sorry…” Yuma weakly apologized.

“Hey, it happens. You were probably just pushing yourself too hard out there.” Yakou replied placing a hand to Yuma’s shoulder.

“C’mon, let’s sit you down and I’ll see if I’ve got anything you can take.” Yakou lent Yuma his aid as he used his arm to support his back, helping him walk to the purple sofa.

“Thanks…” Yuma responded accepting Yakou’s assistance as he slowly stumbled to the sofa. Once he reaches his destination he sits down slowly. Feeling the world spin a bit as he closed his eyes.

Yakou observed Yuma carefully as he was seated. Concern all over his face as Yuma looked down.

“Yeah, you don’t look so good now that I take a closer look at you. You’re trembling a little too. I’ll see if I got a spare blanket.”

“N-No it’s okay... I’ll be fine if I just rest here for a little bit.” Yuma insisted looking back up at him.

“A little bit? Forget that! You’re burning up! You’re staying right here the rest of the day so I can keep my eye on you.” Yakou insisted even harder, purposely exaggerating the situation to make sure Yuma stays put.

“Huh? I couldn’t ask you to do that...” Yuma said.

“Too bad, you’re getting it anyway. I’m the chief and you’re the trainee. Far as I’m concerned my word is absolute.” Yakou said before scratching his head. “Or at least…it should be absolute.” he chuckled awkwardly.

He stood up. “Anyway, stay there. I’ll be right back.” He left Yuma alone as he went to the next room.

When he came back, he found a ‘blanket’ in the form of some extra sheets that were in the shower room and got some painkillers from the cabinet in the kitchen. He covered Yuma up and handed him the tablet medication with a glass of water to drink. Yuma took the medicine calmly, drinking the water to help it go down.

“Alright, I’ll try to make you something light to eat later, but for now I think you should take a nice long nap.” Yakou said looking down at Yuma who was now lying down under the covers with a damp cloth under his bangs.

“Thanks, Chief Yakou… I appreciate this.” Yuma said as he yawned. “I do feel pretty tired…”

Yakou just laughed. “Yeah. That's probably the painkillers. They usually knock me out like a light whenever I take ‘em when I have a headache from overnight work sessions or if I’m a bit hungover from drinking.”

“Chief, you should take better care of yourself…” Yuma said with both the intent of concern and to slightly tease him.

“Like you’re one to talk! You could fry a rice omelet on your forehead!” Yakou retorted back playfully.

Both of them laughed.

“But seriously, get some sleep Yuma.” Yakou said.

“Okay… Thank you again.” Yuma responded moving his body into a comfortable position closing his eyes and getting the most comfort he could from the sheets covering him.

“Hope you feel better soon.” Yakou said patting his back before getting up and turning off one of the lights before he goes back to his desk to sit down. Putting his cigarette out to not affect Yuma’s sleep.

At least he knew Yuma would avoid getting into any trouble for today.

I have to wonder how many people celebrating AI translation also complain about "broken English" and how obvious it is something was Google translated from another language without a fluent English speaker involved to properly clean up the translation/grammar.

Because I bet it's a lot.

I know why execs are all for it—AI is the new buzzword and it lets them cut jobs thus "save" money and not have to worry about pesky labour laws when one employs humans—but everyone else?

There was some outcry when Crunchyroll fired many of their translators in favour of AI translation (with some people to "clean up the AI's work") but I can't help but think that was in part because it was Japanese-to-English and personally affected them. Same when Duolingo fired many of their translators in favour of LLM translation. Meanwhile companies are firing staff when it's English to another language and there's this idea that that's fine or not as big a deal because English is "easy" to translate and/or because people don't think of how it will impact people in non-English countries.

Also it doesn't affect native English speakers so it doesn't get much headway in the news cycle or online anyway because so much of the dominant media is from English-speaking countries and English-speakers dominate social media.

But different languages have different grammar structures that LLMs don't do, and I grew up on "jokes" about people speaking in "broken English" and mocking people who use the wrong word when it was clearly a literal translation but the meaning was obvious long before LLMs were a thing, too. In fact, the specific way a character spoke broken English has been a way to denote their native tongue for decades, usually in a racist way.

Then Google translate came out and "Google-translated English" became an insult for people and criticism of companies because it was clearly wonky to native speakers. Even now, LLMs—which are heavily trained on English compared to other languages—don't have a natural output so native English speakers can clock LLM-generated text if it's longer than a sentence or two.

But, for whatever reason, it's not seen as a problem when it goes the other way because fuck non-English readers or people who want to read in their native tongue I guess.

#and it's not like no people were doing translations so wonky translations were better than nothing #it's actual translators being fired for a subpar replacement #and anyone who keeps their job suddenly being responsible for cleaning up llm output rather than what they trained in #(which can take just as much time or longer than doing the translation by hand from scratch)#(if you want it done right anyway)#hell to this day i hear people complain about written translations of indigenous words and how they 'aren't english enough'#even though they're using the ipa and use a system white english people came up with in the first place #and you can easily look up the proper pronunciation and hear it spoken #but there's such a double-standard where it's expected that other languages cater to english/english speakers #but that grace and accommodation doesn't go the other way #and it's the failing of non-english speakers when an english translation is broken #you see it whenever monolingual english speakers travel to other countries and utterly refuse to learn the language #but if someone doesn't speak in unaccented (to them) english fluently in their home country the person 'isn't trying hard enough'#this is just the new version of that where non-english speakers are supposed to do more work and put up with subpar translations #even as a native english speaker/writer i get a (much) lesser version of this because i write with canadian spelling #and some people get pissed if their internet experience is disrupted by 'ou' instead of 'o' or '-re' instead of '-er'#because dialects and regional phrasing/spelling is a thing #human translators can (or should) be able to account for it but llms are not smart enough to do so #and that's not even getting into slang and how llms don't account for it #or how llms can put slurs into translations because it doesn't do nuance or context and doesn't know the language #if you ever complained about buying something from another country that came with machine-translated instructions #you should be pissed at companies cutting english-to-[language] staff in favour of glorified google translate #because the companies are effectively saying they're fine with non-native speakers getting a wonky/broken version

hey so do you think wtv keiko had to deal with growing up with yusuke could be considered a type of parentification

#god chapters where barely anything happens except a character's realization about things can be hard ...#im writing another keiko pov chapter and it's hard because well!!#keiko was never really a main focus in the series and as time goes on she gets even less of a focus so i have to fill in these spots #in her personality and views that aren't really explored. im taking a lot of liberties lets say #and idek if it's gonna read as in character cos of that #anyway im tryna say that like. pre series keiko was basically this presence in yusuke's life and he saw her as a pain but he cared #she was there to scold him and cajole him into going to his classes and she was his only friend #now we know atsuko was negligent and idk how involved the yukimuras were in his life but i feel like keiko #whether directly or indirectly was given this duty like you have to keep him outta trouble #you're smart you're mature he needs someone like you. this responsibility just kind of put on her before she can understand the weight of i #and she can't really comprehend that weight until it's abruptly taken from her. yusuke dies and there's no one to shepherd #i feel like keiko should get to be mad about this. this realization of the nature of their dynamic. keiko planning things around yusuke #who's never done that in his life. not because he's purposely being thoughtless but bc he was never the one to have to plan #to think about what their future looks like. he just kinda drifted along and keiko tried to do damage control. it wasn't fair #yusuke is keeping secrets from her she is scared of high school and that he'll die again without her knowing why and it's unfair #so she should get to be mad also because girls getting to be mad is one of my favorite things 👍🏼#the realization that yusuke won't be lost without her so she shouldn't hinge her life on the expectation that he will be #she worries about yusuke a lot i think. especially after he comes back from the dead. and i think kuwa's presence would help ease that #dread in her heart. it doesn't have to be just me. there's someone who can be there with him always and it doesn't have to be me #the guilty relief of not having to be the sacrifice. but kuwa doesn't mind so maybe it's okay this way #idk just rambles about my fic while i puzzle out how to word it #character analysis #yukimura keiko #yu yu hakusho

One of the things I love about Glass Onion is the way that the camera and music work together to tell nonverbal jokes.

Like when Benoit basically has to hold Miles' hand to get him to the conclusion that someone reset the puzzle box Benoit lies about receiving:

Benoit asks if it's possible that someone reset the box, and Miles then declares that someone must have reset the box like it is this huge reveal - and the camera zooms out while the music subtly swells as though he really has figured out something smart, when actually he literally restated what Benoit just said.

#I LIKE Dostoyevsky. I like how mysterious and unreadable he is. What is his goal!!!! Why does he do what he does!!!!!!! He's very cool #I think knowing his ability now REALLY adds to his character. Him being so smart so manipulative so disruptive in the way he–#seemingly kills people on touch! Only added to this impression of him being “demon” and “inhuman”#But now that we know his ability you realize... That's all his doing; no ability.#His ability in a way does help humanize him by reaffirming that except for the moment he dies– he's got no superpower at all!!!#It's just him.#And yet at the same time also solves the exact opposite role of dehumanizing him because if it's not his ability that makes him like *that*#then he's even different than other ability users!!! Then‚ if not an ability user‚ if not a non ability user: what is //he//?#It's all SO compelling!!! Also makes for an extremely insightful narrative parallel with Dazai #Not an ability user not a non ability user. Not good not evil. (I feel like Dostoyevsky does exceed the definitions of good and evil as–#much as Dazai does. If he causes evil‚ yet does so with the intention of bringing salvation to humans– is he really *simply* evil?)#Both have these borderline superpowers that make them extraordinary beings (we can call it super intelligence‚ but it goes from controlling #their own heartbit to everything else) but are unrelated to their respective abilities! Once again making them neither this or that #I find Karma's words at the end to be extremely insightful.“Ace was evil for sure‚ but this man isn't even evil.#He's a being from the beyond. A being that exceeds human limits.” Like!!! That's all that there is to it!!!!!!#Back to this chapter / episode. There's some themes / worldvies once again I don't agree with but narrative wise I think it's extraordinary #I feel like after the Guild arc the writing really matured a lot and this is a kind of preview of what the doa arc is going to be like #(aka very very well written especially if compared to the previous arcs)#The plot twists of this episode are all so unpredictable and exciting!!! I think it's remarkably witty how it takes advantages of previous–#clichés - villains always revealing details about their own ability in a way that is quite baffling - to actually surprise the audience.#It's so effective. How skillfully unpredictable Dostoyevsky is to the point you can never guess what he will do next!!!#Him killing Karma is... Idk so so soooooooo interesting. I could talk about this forever but I'm being very dispersive in the rable and–#running out of tags. The whole episode you're sorta rooting for Dostoyevsky. He's very cool and comes out charming in the way he keeps–#surprising the audience. He looks bothered by Ace's disregard of other people's lives and that makes him sympathetic too.#But then he kills Karma out of nowhere and it's an “Ah! You fell for his lies too– remember he's nothing but evil. He cares just as little #about life as Ace does”. And then??? Karma in his last words is himself so generous in his words to Dostoyevsky. It's baffling.#And it almost feels like thenarrative is once again turning around and telling you you should root for Dostoyevsky.#It's endlessly fascinating.#I have more to say about the worldviews I don't share and the art style Dostoyevsky was portrayed with this episode (love it!!)#But alas ran out of tags

at the end of the day the thing i love the most about tmnt is that it's not just boys being boys (in the wholesome way), it's brothers being brothers

#where has this series been my whole life #even tho im a girl ive always related to male characters more. i just like them more.#i like to watch series focused on boys and my favorite character is almost always a boy and i love to write for boys #all my fav ocs are boys #in this aspect tmnt was like MADE for me. i love boys #i think thats part of the reason i rly hate the idea of them introducing sisters into the mix in the later seasons of rise #honestly im kinda glad the show ended before they got to that point #like no.... pls dont take the boys dynamic from me...#theyre house must be SUCH a bachelor pad #in smart lair when splinter tell them theyre staying home to clean #and leo goes 'but we cleaned laaasst yeeear' i ALWAYS die #what can i say. men simply fascinate me.

Honestly a lot of the time, it's not even about people having to agree with me, it's about needing to know that they actually heard and listened to what I had to say even if it didn't persuade them

Just... some basic indication that there's enough respect to give a shit about what I said, and also to make sure that they disagree because they actually disagree and not cause they just didn't bother listening

It's all I really ask

study smart not hard (altough both is best actually) this saying is so true

#my advice #but this saying is sooo true #i know some people at uni who study for exam so long and hard but then fail or just barely make it :(#like what are you doing? i don't mean this in a mean way but it doesn't have to be this difficult #i don't understand how some people can study for an exam for 2 weeks or even a month and still fail and i don't think they're stupid #or i don't see myself as particulary smart #but i guess they just waste their time a lot and i realized studying effective is so important #now everyone is a bit different and has to find what works best for them but there are certain techniques which are proven to work well #there is so much information on the internet on this look it up seriously #it made my life sm easier i never struggled in uni like i did in school and i get good grades #and if i ever struggled a bit it was because i started so late it was almost impossible to pass 😂#which is why to do both is still best 😂#but i actually always made it and i never failed an exam at uni (which i studied for)#(two i was fooled into to just try without studying bc it's easy lol)#i mean i shouldn't speak too soon but i already made it through some of the most difficult of my studies #ofc it depends on what you study how well this works but i'm speaking for myself #i once passed an exam with a B studying only 2 days as one of the best students while others studied 2 weeks #and got worse grades or failed #still studying only 2 days is stupidity don't do it 😅#so the techniques i find very helpful are ofc exam questions probably the best one #if there are none make your own #then blurting for which there are different ways but i like to just go over a topic and then write down everything i remember #then fill the gaps #quizlet is also great it's an app which allows you to create cards and then tests you in creative ways #videos can be helpful as well for summaries and using summaries in general is normally enough it saves you sm time #normally you don't actually need to know everything but you should be careful it's not a bad summary leaving out too much 😅#and i also like mindmaps bc i'm a very visual person #but all those tipps are mostly for remembering information so it doesn't work so well for other fields of study #well i hope this is somewhat helpful idk 🙈#oh and reading texts over and over again is the most useless in my opinion i don't remember much at all and it takes sm time

#i really hope its decent proposals are really hard for me to write. i never really understand how much im supposed to say #also i dont plan stuff in advance! i hate drafts and proposals why cant i just jump in and run w my topic #i dont Know exactly what im going to cover just yet can i get back to you once ive covered it #levi.txt #i spent One page just opening the two page proposal so. i know it needs some cleaning up #but the last time i wrote one of these i only got a 75 (not a bad grade but i could do significantly better) bc. and i am not kidding.#i wrote a several page intro abt the themes of a story i was super pumped to write. and forgot the /plot characters and title/#a 75 was honestly generous. that prof already liked me and knew my work so i got very lucky #also i just think the guy im working with for my essay is so cool and i want to impress him bfhshsk #ive taken 2 classes with him before he is so smart and so enthusiastic. i was 1 of only 3 who was there for every class both times #everyone whos helped me has been so cool and very nice to me i want to do a good job and prove that im as capable as they think #and also jesus fucking christ ive worked so hard for this degree PLEASE #if i dont get honours im walking into the forest laying down and letting the fae take me as they will #side note: i have 1.5 movies left (its late and im finishing army of the dead tomorrow + watching evil dead rise)!! thats so exciting #theyve (mostly) been really fun and i feel like i have a really good general idea of where im going w my essay now #the movie eras are starting to kind of organize themselves into coherent themes in my mind #i think its smth along the lines of racism/xenophobia -> social change -> satanic panic -> action and militarism -> prejudice/bias #and i actually think were in smth of a thematic reckoning w zombies rn as a culture that im excited to discuss!!#for so long weve accepted that zombies arent people but weve really been starting to interrogate that since abt the mid 2010s #w tropes like searching for a cure (not just a vaccine) or movies like warm bodies or evil dead where you can truly turn back #and im really excited to see where the future takes the zombie genre!!

so like the thing with hannibal is that hannibal lecter is supposed to be such a competent and charming presence that despite his really obvious hiding in plain sight thing everyone's confidence is so unwavering that they outright ignore his direct involvement in these murder cases. its. supposedto be a scary thing? and i dont know if its just mads mikklesens like silly demeanor or the framing but it just comes off as ridiculous its a big reason why hannibal is funny and it is supposed to be funny you know but i cant tell if this specific type of funny is intentional or not

#it especially comes off as funny because of the serious super horribly lit tungsten filter that chokes every scene #anyway the biggest thing about how hannibal lecter got away with it is not very perceptible when its supposed to be the most #perceptible thing about him. that hes easy to trust. and obviously they had no intention of having the audience fall for it because one #he is already an established character from the books and movies and most of the audience already knows his deal #and. i forgot what two was going to be.#well anyhow. the way all of the other characters who we are supposed to be believe are super smart react to the idea of hannibal having ill #intentions with anything ever is just really funny because theres no shared suspension of disbelief between #the characters and the audience. so the audience knowing turns it into a comedy.#but what im trying to say is. depending on the intentions with the writing which in this specific case i kind of cant tell #it isn't working in one way but that weakness ends up making hannibal a fun watch #im not good with judging acting which is why im like well i dont know.#so like i said it depends #honestly i can not tell what im trying to say but it doesn't matter. hit post

#fucking. god dammit. i hype myself up like: fuck it i dont want a uk phd #and then i fucking pre interview. which was a full on fucking hour long interview and im reminded how #fucking cool the project is. like hhhhh why cant u b in the us????#they can only pick one candidate. and like oh yea we could send u to the arctic or southern ocean #fuck u thats so cool hhhhhh ugh. im hoping when i visit [redacted] school i fall in love so completely that i can say no #but ugh its so so cool. and i feel like they were impressed with me. like i feel the interview went well #and one guy was like: even if u dont end up here youll have a stellar research career. and im like 😭#like i kno im not a perfect fit for the project but like im. i think my brain is good at some things so i could contribute things #ugh now im all shaky a sweaty. and after i visit the other school i have to immediately let the uk school kno if i wanna comit to them #then i could maybe visit the lab. tho idk when id have the time to fucking fly to the uk #uuuuuugh school bullshit. so stressful. but im glad they think what ive done is cool #like i feel so dumb all the time bc the trauma of being dyslexic in the american public school system that as soon as someone says im smart #or impressive im like 😭😭😭#also they asked how i feel abt writing papers and i was like: convention is bullshit and i dont think thats what the guy was expecting lmao #its true tho. fuck convention. challenge convention. be open to new ideas. otherwise whats the point #sigh. well i felt awful this morning. i mean. its only like 9.30 now but i feel a bit better now #since my last interview was a disaster i feel way better abt my interviewing skills now. which is good bc i have 2 more looming #unrelated
