Here's a question concerning the mortality of demons in HelluvaVerse.
Stolas is 30-something. We could debate 30-what exactly, but I think his age in the flashback of The Circus is ambiguous enough that we don't need to know exactly. He's 30-something. That has to be incredibly young for a supposedly immortal race of demons.
And "Stolas the Owl Demon of Books, Poisons, and Prophecies" is not a 30-something year old concept.
Why would the Goetia, supposedly immortal race of demons, be so preoccupied with producing precautionary heirs so early in their supposedly immortal lives if there weren't a very real and normal chance that they'd die in a vaguely human-like time frame? Why has Stolas the Demon Prince been in Earth's demonology for so long?
(Maybe questioning the status of souls of creatures that live where human souls go when they die, which is inherently a vacuume of a conversation) but is there some level of reincarnation-style scenario going on with hellborn? Like, Stolas isn't the first Stolas. He isn't the first owl demon prince who's dominion is over poisons, prophecies, and knowledge. There have been other Stolas's, and when one dies another will eventually be born to take his place so that power is recycled. Or more directly, this is just straight up not his first life and previous Stolas's were just him. Like the Stolas from ancient human demonology books was just as nerdy and awkward as our Stolas because it was the same guy.
You could just say that previous depictions of him are from prophecies, that his existence was foretold, but where were his powers before he was hatched? His father? Unlikely his father held the grimoire and those duties for thousands(?) Of years before he was born, because then his father (or whichever of his ancestors were around with the grimoire longest) wouldn't just be more well known in those duties than some owlet that hasn't even been lain yet.
So if the Ars Goetia are potentially in some level of reincarnation deal, and Octavia as a precautionary heir is simply meant to hold the grimoire and its duties until Stolas reincarnated and grows old enough again when he dies, is that specifically an Ars Goetia thing? Like, above them in ranking are the Sins, which I am under the understanding are either confirmed to be or implied to be more actually immortal, like they have been around since the beginning of Hell, they were in Lucifer's circus at the beginning, and above them we get into the Morningstar family.
But below the Ars Goetia? Do other hellborn reincarnate? Like, the other demons of the rins die and then get shoved back into a new body with no memories, or do their "souls" burn up and spawn with each life? Because I refuse to entertain heaven/hell-ception.
*these thoughts were spawned from my wondering for some time about the whole "Stolas is only 30-something, why would he appear in demonology lore/manuscripts/whatever on Earth from hundreds of years ago?" And occasionally seeing someone pointing out that Stolas is "immortal" while Blitz is not. What if Stolas's "immortal" just means a higher resistance to damage (only hurt by blessed weapons) and a definite reincarnation cycle? He's only 30-something!

The Watchmen adaptation famously changed Rorschach's death scene so that Nite-Owl actually witnesses it and is extremely distraught at the death of his friend, beating the living hell out of Ozymandias in a fit of rage and implicitly only going along with the rest of the cover up because he now has direct evidence that Jon might turn him into hamburger if he doesn't play ball. This is a contrast to the comic, where he and Laurie legitimately don't appear to notice that Rorschach was killed at all because they were too busy having sex, and at no point do they appear to inquire into his absence.
This strongly reads like somebody in the writers room feeling like they were fixing something about the original comic- Dan's deeply unsatisfying lack of curiosity about Rorschach's disappearance, the real possibility that he slept through Walter getting exploded. The thing is, though, I think there are a lot of ways in which the comical degree of self-absorption necessary for that to happen is kind of the book's capstone on the question of who exactly Dan Dreiberg is as a person. In catharsis, something is lost

The rabbit looks like it tryna be Judy hopps
POV: you're talking to an AI but he's really anxious and just overexplains everything
Tumblr media
No but seriously this was unintentional haha but I can totally see it!! He's 100% based off of the White Rabbit from Alice in Wonderland, not Judy Hopps, but he lowkey does look a bit like her haha
Who knows, maybe I'll draw them together sometime! It could be fun >:)

Ok someone tell me why I had a dream of being pursued by Anaxagoras (physically and romantically???) and the whole time he's trying to convince me to be with him???
Then at one point I somehow said to him that ok look, this won't work btw us cus this is a dream and you're a FICTIONAL character that doesn't exist for real in my world. Im gon wake up and all of this is going to be gone so what's the point????
I can't fully rmb what his exact reply was, but dream Anaxa was not deterred and said sth like "if everything is going to disappear, all the more to cherish what we have, no?" And im just wozjjeijsksjjjws HELP???
Then it goes back to me trying to avoid/escape him while he tries to pursue me. Whenever he manages to catch me, we end up sharing intimate moments (cough making out). I make sure he's sufficiently distracted enough before I leave him once more, and he continues chasing me without complaint.
There's an unsaid implication that dream Anaxa is aware that dream me is in denial/not mentally prepared for his advances, but plays along the whole time since he sees it as a game/challenge.
Maybe i can write this into a proper fic at some pt but imma post this first for archive purposes

They absolutely dye each other’s hair and share stupid, funny posts when the older Chaos Council members start rambling about who knows what.
Rant time:
You know, one thing that’s really nice about drawing these two is that, one, it’s fun to draw edgy, cringe teenagers, but two, this is an Eggman that isn’t growing up being completely shunned by his age group . While, sure, everyone else hates his guts because he’s part of the council oppressing New Yoke, but now he has a reason to believe that he’s cared for. Every other Eggman (excluding Babbles) grew up in a world that shunned them from the start (or at least has fake memories/memories of original Eggman’s childhood) either by colleagues or family or whatever. However, in an alternate universe in New Yoke, with Agent Stone, he has somebody who cares for him and less of the experience that has caused older him to deny it and say it’s just Stone being a sycophant. Sure, he’s still egotistical and a bitch, but now he’s egotistical and a bitch *with a friend* at the least. He can believe that Stone likes him and can show reciprocate those feelings without worrying about being seen as less because he sees older Stone acting the exact same way, with the same amount of adoration, without having left already. He knows Stone isn’t just going to leave when given a reason to. Obviously he isn’t going to be super obvious about it, he still has to be evil and he probably tries to copy the older members of the council to some extent (that’s just what kids do), but it’s still a lot more than any of the other Eggmen will ever understand.

Okay so I ended up doing explanations for all of the parts of the comic— 1 2 AND 3 and it’s turning out super long. Thoughts on me posting parts 1+2 first and then the part 3 explanations separately?

kind of expected that the ability breakdown wouldnt get that much traction (especially on twitter bc if it doesnt do well in the first few hours it might as well be dead) but what i didnt need to wake up to was looking at my twitter notifications and thinking there was a long comment on it at first but then i read it and it turned out to be some guy having dug up one of my old totk tweets where i talked about how zelda was treated-
and if a quote retweet with a thread attached already starts with "this entitled brat didnt understand that zelda was being a history nerd by being in the past and getting to experience it herself" with two screenshots attached of the end of totk with zelda staring at the cam all uwu (which has ??? to do with their point??) i dont even want to know what else was in that thread
if thats how the majority of the fandom is then im even less surprised that nintendy doesnt even have to try to write anything good :I
ah yes, i am a game nerd, and by putting me in a game where i stand around doing puppy dog eyes while being shoved around by NPCs is me being a game nerd OBVIOSULY
#ganondoodles talks#zelda#sorta#like ok im not saying you cant like the game ffs#but acting like everything is perfect and anyone who dares speak something critical is a heathen and must be PUNISHED or PROVEN WRONG-#-is so godammn annoying#just went on their profile to block and of course it was all screenshots of totks ending with uwu zelda and shirtless cool guy link#also find it interesting that zelda has always been a history nerd now#didnt know interest in shiekah tech and ... frogs? counted as historian#and dont get me wrong it would fit her being interested in that too but the way it was done in totk felt so artificial#like doesnt she say she read in a book that the king who founded this hyrule was called rauru and all that?#like ........ how did that even happen#a book that mentions him BY NAME surviving for WAY OVER TEN THOUSAND YEARS just convenietnly materializing or what#how the hell did that survive when next to nothing did of the ancient shiekah#(granted you can make the argument that the -other- ancient king of hyrule that persecuted them destroyed most of their stuff-#-which would make sense and im rolling with that too but you get my point??)#but raurus shit was even older than shiekah stuff like ......... ok???? how convenient she now suddendly is interested in nothing but#-that and also read a book about it!!! somehow!!#also how does something like that exist but then the sonau where pretty much non existent and irrelevant at all in botw#and even what we had was ACTUALLY done ..by hylians as a tribute to rauru you seeeeeeee#and the botw sonau style was the hylians work .. even though the totk sonau style aligns more with hylian than botw sonau..#if the hylians were so grateful to rauru they built giant stone monuments as a tribute for him that didnt even fit their style-#-why was that the only stuff that survived on the surface ... wouldnt it make more sense that they would maintain the og sonau stuff instea#sure the temple ... castle .. whatever went up into the sky and whatver SOEMEHOW but not everythign did and it was everwhere#but then the stuff left on the surface crumbled away while everything left to rot in the underground and sky is just .. fine#what#also ... where did their castle go anyway#like ... we only see the -new cooler sonau- temple of time on the plateau but its interior doesnt match at all with the throne room#so where was all that#funny it wasnt in the same place as hyrule castle

I've gotten a lot of comments on "not looking Bulgarian" as if there is some Wall of Whiteness that tangibly separates Europe from Asia.
İt is Normal to see a brown person in Türkiye, but is somehow surprising to see a brown person in Greece, its direct neighbour?
İt is Normal to hear "Oriental" music in Türkiye, but surprising to hear it in Bulgaria, its direct neighbour?
İ understand this is a confusing topic to navigate since a lot of us aren't reliable narrators (Greece, Bulgaria, Georgia I'm looking at you); for various reasons, we have also bought into this myth of separation.
Some Bulgarians will comment on the supposed "degeneracy" of our pop-folk genre and its Roma/Turkish/Arab influences, and then turn around and uncritically deem Soviet-influenced folk arrangements as authentic. Some Georgians will claim their identity as Caucasians proves beyond a reasonable doubt they are the epitome of whiteness, ignoring? being unaware? of the term's origin and later semantic drift. Some Greek people will treat many aspects of their musical tradition as Ottoman corruption, when they?? came up with?? it? (makam hijaz).
Being in a region having had so many influences, it is easy to form narratives that favour some of them over others. Keep in mind that lot of us will give conflicting accounts of our cultures - İ used to think white passing and Bulgarian passing were synonymous until İ went abroad. But no matter what type of collective identity crisis we're having, the Wall of Whiteness is always fake.

the experience of writing fic for svsss has been absolutely insane so far. I posted a fic less than 24 hours ago and it already has twenty comments. I have been in so many fandoms where you have to BEG to get comments, where you'd be lucky to get more than ten comments and the ratio between hits and kudos/comments/bookmarks was vast, but so far the scum villain fandom has been super responsive! The hits/kudos/comments/bookmarks ratios have been super tight, even on my fics which have all been oneshots under 10k!
And it's not just me! I regularly see fanart for svsss fics, which was a rare sight in a lot of other fandoms I've been in. People reblog minifics that get posts to tumblr and leave tags and replies on them. I've written for a lot of fandoms in my time, and this a shocking amount of fic engagement compared to many other fandoms I've been in!!
I can't help but wonder if it's because of the nature of scum villain itself? Other people have talked about how the story uniquely appeals to writers, and it ultimately is about the relationship between a writer and reader, especially in a fan space. I can't help but wonder if the combination of this being a fandom with a high density of writers and it being a story about engaging with writing encourages a fandom culture that is super engaged with fanfiction!

the best part of superhero comics is telling whoever asks a single question about any specificity whatsoever that its 'whatever the writer needs it to be at that moment' and watching them get increasingly frustrated

(i meant to specify that like.. there IS a physical danger element. hence the torture game idea. obviously it's not a death game if nobody can get hurt at all)
(not sure how i would categorize a game where the intent is to psychologically torture people? i think it would fall under potentially lethal torture but maybe it's more case-by-case...)
(i suppose it also depends how you classify a game with a "sign your life away" kind of fate. because that's Kind of death and Kind of bodily harm in that you lose agency forever? but then couldn't you just call any super high-stakes gamble a death game? idk)
(oh and also the death/violence part is like. intentional. it's not an activity that just happens to be dangerous, but something designed to hurt/kill people)

"It is too easy to dismiss [Leonor of Navarre] as an overambitious schemer who would do anything to obtain a crown, shedding the blood of her own siblings and her subjects in order to attain the throne. However, a deeper investigation of her long lieutenancy and ephemeral reign shows a woman who fought tenaciously to preserve her place but also worked tirelessly to administer a realm which was crippled by internal conflict and the center of the political schemes of France, Aragon, and Castile. She tried to broker peace, fight off those who opposed her, repair the wounds caused by conflict, protect the sovereignty of the realm, and keep the wheels of governance turning. Leonor was not always successful in achieving all of these aims but given the background of conflict and the lack of cooperation she received from all of her family members, bar her loyal husband, it is a huge achievement that she survived to wear the crown at all. Many writers have argued that Leonor deserved the troubled lieutenancy, personal tragedies, an ephemeral reign, and a blackened reputation, basing their assumption that she committed a crime that cannot be [conclusively] proven. However, a more fitting description of her would be that of a resolute ruler who successfully overcame a multitude of challenges in order to survive in a difficult political landscape and gain a hard-fought throne.”
— Elena Woodacre, "Leonor of Navarre: The Price of Ambition", Queenship, Gender and Reputation in the Medieval and Early Modern West, 1060-1600 (Edited by Zita Eva Rohr and Lisa Benz)
#historicwomendaily#leonor of navarre#15th century#Navarrese history#my post#I mean...the crime can't be explicitly 'proven' but Leonor DID have the means motive and opportunity; she had the most to gain;#the timing was incredibly convenient for her; and most contemporaries believed she was responsible.#She *did* ultimately act against her brother [Carlos] and sister [Blanca]#Though of course the fact remains that:#1) The final responsibility lies with Juan the Faithless: he was the King; the one in power; and the one who rejected Navarre's succession#Blanca herself - while criticizing Leonor and Gaston - placed the ultimate blame on their father as her 'principal...destructor'#All three siblings were reacting to an unconventional disruption in the system caused by Juan & their actions should be judged accordingly.#2) I am hesitant to believe accusations of 'poison' as a cause of murder given how that was commonly used to slander controversial women#and given how it contributed to the dichotomy of Blanca as a tragic beautiful heroine and Leonor as her scheming ambitious sister#3) Even if Leonor DID commit the crime (imo she was at the very least complicit in it) she is still worthy of a reassessment.#I don't think it's fair for it to define her entire identity#Because it certainly did not define her life - she lived for decades before and would live for decades after#It was on the whole one of the many series of obstacles and challenges she had to face before she succeeded in ascending the throne.#The fact that she died so soon after IS ironic but it is in equal parts tragic. And we don't know what Leonor herself felt about it:#Did she think it was a hollow victory? Or did she feel nothing but satisfaction that she died as the Queen of Navarre? We'll never know.#Whatever the case: given her circumstances the fact that she survived to wear the crown itself was an achievement#It's funny because Woodacre parallels Leonor to Richard III in terms of 'blackened' reputations for 'unproven' (...sure) crimes#(thankfully she admits Richard has been long-rehabilitated; what she doesn't bring herself to admit is that he's now over-glorified)#But I don't think this parallel works at all for the exact reasons she uses to try and reassess Leonor#Namely: Richard was the one in power. He was the King. The ultimate blame for what happened to his nephews was his own.#and moreover: Richard's actions against the Princes DID define his reign and were exactly what provoked opposition to his rule.#Any so-called 'rehabilitation' that doesn't recognize and emphasize this is worthless#also if we want to get specific: the Princes were literal children who did nothing and were deposed in times of peace.#Carlos and Blanca were adults with agency and armies and Leonor's actions against them took place in the middle of a civil war#So ultimately I think Leonor's case is fundamentally very different and I don't think her comparison holds well at all
