Hello Hello ~

My name is Tix (they/them), and welcome to my rotumblr blog! I'm 21, I'm from Unova and in Unova and i run a small café on Route 3 right outside Striaton City. If you don't find it, just look for the Daycare on the hill, walk up that hill and look for the building at the foot of the hill! And now come in and get a cupcake, you earned it!

A bit of background info, so you're not put off:

- I'm a trainer, i went on gym journey but i never finished (i have 5 badges). I know a bit about tactics, i like battling as a concept (i love watching league battles and gym battles on TV) but I'm not a big battler myself. If you're interested though, just ask. I have a good team and we do like the exercise. Just... Don't expect me to win.

- My parent's own a farm near Lacunosa Town on route 12. Their main focus is on Produce but they also offer a breeding program. I've worked a lot with them as well, so if you've just gotten an egg from the daycare, i can give you some tips. I don't know everything though.

- I'm a poison type specialist. Don't be put off by this. The food is all safe to eat, the air is safe to breathe and if anything should ever happen, i have antidotes. My Pok￩mon are all sweethearts, but please be careful about touching them. If you would like to pet them, feel free to ask me. I will gladly tell you how to safely do it or if it's not possible. This should go without saying, but some people... Well.

First, this is obviously a Pokemon irl rp blog. As I and the people I'll mostly interact with will pretend that Pokémon are real, this is a blanket #unreality warning. I tried for a while to tag every post with that, but tbh it's tiresome, and I don't think it's really needed. Instead, I'll usually tag with at least one of the following three tags: #pokemon irl, #pkmn irl or #pokeblogging. It's probably gonna be #pokeblogging though.

Second, while both I and my character(s) are adults, I'd prefer to keep this blog semi SFW. (I will act like an adult though.) Mentions and, I'll call it "informative discussions" of sensitive topics are okay, but I try to keep it off screen. I don't think anyone had plans to play out elaborate sex-scenes on here but you never know.

If anything comes up, I'll try to put a warning tag. I'm not a fan of spamming tags, and some posts i already did have quite a lot, so I'll keep it to one format: #cw [trigger]. I will probably still use them sparingly, since i'm personally okay with most things. Please tell me if i should tag something.

That said, i usually don't consider "gore" as NSFW because thats just silly in my opinion. People cut themself and break their bones. I'll still try to keep stuff like this on the low end, and extreme stuff like dismemberment will also be tagged.

Third: I'm not the biggest fan of high stakes, especially on a global scale. I'll decide case to case if i want to react or interact. If it's something personal high stakes I'm more willing to participate (a character's arc that results in a final battle with a nemesis). Like i said, global scale high stakes where the world is threatened is probably not something I'll do a lot (team aqua wants to flood the world again). I do acknowledge it if it's happening because a lot of other blogs do participate and it's just weird if I'll always ask "whoa whats a shadow Pok￩mon", but, like, Tix will probably be a lucky one and be unaffected by most things. If you would like me to participate, feel free to ask though. (I might just decline). Everything will be appropriately tagged #high stakes pokereality. I don't think i will be getting into details like "low stakes" and "medium stakes" for tagging.

Regarding sentient/sapient pok￩mon: Human Characters will treat them as roleplayers online who just have fun. Might play along, might be a bit snarky or so. Pokémon Characters (Porygons, Rotoms, Team Nightdancer) will interact and understand them, even in person. This means that @team-nightdancer is NOT canon to the human run blogs, despite me running both. Exceptions to this rule is the Porygon line, Rotom and possibly very specific cases.

Fourth: as for other tags: all of Tix' and Olivias pokemon will have their own tag in the format #[nickname] the [species] , for example #coffee the koffing . I don't know how consistent I'll be with capitalisation, i try to use all lowercase. All posts regarding Yoghurt the Yveltal while it was still an egg are tagged with #yveltal??? Posts about Cracker the Murkrow and Cheese the Crobat from before they were caught are tagged #unknown crobat . I will not tag Pok￩mon of other people, and I'll only tag the Pok￩mon that are relevant for the specific post/reblog (because i have a lot of pok￩mon and the tags won't end otherwise). If I'm sure something will be the last entry in a longer series of reblogs, i might tag everyone who was relevant, but don't expect it. I usually put them there so people know who I'm talking about, because i use the nicknames. (Another list of the Pok￩mon will be at the very end)

depending on what kind of interaction i am doing on rotumblr, there are 6 tags, 2 for each Tix, Brandy and Olivia. Answers to asks will be tagged with #tix answers, #brandy answers or #olivia answers. If it's about "normal" blogging, it'll be tagged either #tix.txt, #brandy boasting or #olivia online. some old posts might have #tix blogs or #olivia blogs, i won't go through that to change it. posts from before olivias appearance might not be tagged at all in this way. The "event" (idk how to call it) where i come up with weird drinks or things that people order will be tagged with #daily disaster drinks . In character, these will be made by Olivia and will not be daily, as Olivia isn't working at the caf￩ every day.

Ask games or Ask memes or whatever you call them will be tagged with #ask game. Once i reblog them, they are open indefinitely. The tag will be for the initial meme only, not the answers to make it possible to find them. Generally, please put the question for the meme into your ask, especially if it's an older ask game, i might ignore it otherwise. Also, please specify which muse you're asking, if not I'll just decide who is answering on my own. In addition: most ask games i reblog here are also fair game on @drampas-trainers. I also like to do headcanons. These might make more or less sense, depending. I will usually introduce them with "//headcanon time" or something similar and then put a readmore. I also don't mind discussing certain stuff in universe, we can play something like "what? really, i heard that slightly differently!". My characters are both not professional researchers or pokebiologists, but Tix is a poison type expert and Olivia is a battle specialist and teaches at the trainer school. They know their stuff for the most part. Because of this i'd like to ask you not to just straight up contradict me on these posts, like "wow, that's completely and utterly wrong!" I will try to do the same. Please tell me if i overstepped boundaries.

Also all the characters are around 19-20, there won’t ever be anything explicit but they’ll probably make stupid dick jokes at worst. Specifically Blake and probably Auberi sometimes. Info about my OC:

basically Blake is my protag in several pkmn games, specifically SW/SH, X/Y, and B/W! the timeline of those games’ stories are in that specific order in my OCverse. (Pretty much any semblance of a canon timeline in the games is destroyed in my OCverse, except for any games w/ sequels like Gen1/Gen2 or BW/BW2. I’ll probably put together a proper timeline eventually, but essentially it’s just in the order I played all the games. Rn that order is FRLG -> HGSS -> SM -> ORAS -> SWSH -> XY -> DPPT/BDSP -> BW -> PLA -> SV -> BW2)

Bio: Blake was born in Nuvema Town, where they lived until they were around seven before moving to Aspertia City. They lived there until they were about thirteen, before moving to Postwick in the Galar region with their mother. There, they met one of their best friends, Hop. At the time, Blake was super closed off and shy, as their social anxiety made making friends difficult. The only one they’ve ever really let their guard down with was Hop. Watching Leon’s matches on TV with Hop was what inspired them to become a trainer, though for many years they didn’t actually think it’d be possible for them- considering they came from a family who didn’t really like Pokemon, therefore they had nowhere near as much experience with them like Hop did. They feared their social anxiety would get in the way, too.

Once they were 16, they unexpectedly got their first Pokemon from Leon- a Sobble named Kappa. After getting endorsed by Leon and some encouragement from Hop, they agreed to sign up for the Gym Challenge. They had a rocky start- losing battles pretty frequently was putting a huge dent in their already low self-esteem, and it was impacting Kappa as well. But over time they learned the ropes of being a trainer and was quickly becoming a rising star amongst the Gym Challengers. They went on to stop the Darkest Day along with Hop, catch Eternatus, become champion, and earn the trust of Zacian.

During their reign as champion, they trained at the Isle of Armor and explored the Crown Tundra. These small adventures slowly helped them realize just how much pressure their title was putting on them- and finally caused them to slip up during the final match of the next year’s Gym Challenge.

After losing their title, they decided to look for a new path- which lead them to Kalos, where they helped in putting a stop to Team Flare’s plan and caught Yveltal, and eventually back to Unova, where they fought against Team Plasma alongside Reshiram. Following the defeat of Plasma, they’ve enrolled as a college student at Blueberry Academy- and have done quite a lot in the past two years, such as visiting the Paldea region and catching more Pokémon. Now, they’ve returned to Unova, and are resting after having helped in the fight against Kyurem.

Blake is also the main character in my comics, Adventures in Kalos (on my instagram @/xgolden_latiasx) and Unova Fates (on Tumblr, insta, and webtoon). This blog will probably contain spoilers for those comics!

More rules/info/explanations/etc.:

All three of these characters are friends with multiple legendaries, so if they seem overpowered to you… sorry? I’m just having fun over here. They don’t really use any of them for battle that often, though they might threaten to sic their legendary on someone as a joke (but they won’t actually). But as of right now the only legendary that’s actively with the group is Reshiram, he’s the only one who’ll get involved in whatever shenanigans/event the gang finds themselves in. (Unless I’m participating in an event from another person and they say they don’t want Reshiram involved.)

I’m relatively willing to join in on high stakes stuff as long as I feel up to it, but please ask me first if you want one of my characters to actively participate somehow.

Also, this blog runs with the idea that Rotomblr is a weird site that links other universes together. So for example say if… Kalos is blowing up or something on another person’s blog and someone tries to get Auberi involved, I’m just going to say it’s happening in a different universe. Or if a different SWSH/XY/BW/PLA protag character tries to interact.

Please also understand that I have realllllly bad social anxiety and awkwardness. I apologize if it takes me a while to respond to something, or if my replies seem short and uninterested (I promise I’m interested in the conversation I’m just bad at words). Or long and ramble-y. Please tell me to shut the fuck up if you need me to.

percy jackson is the one i consider my first ~proper~ fanfiction. earlier attempts were a final fantasy x retelling with pokémon but i only went through the first chapter and hated it, a guild wars fanfiction which was about my own characters which i abandoned after a few chapters, and fanfiction of a (likely) troll fanfiction. i consider them disqualified for various reasons. others may not.

the hollow folk books. only had one fic on ao3 last i checked. deserves more. the problem is i don't see any angle for a fic with that cast and that world other than the story that is already in the books. so.

Glasses? Contacts?: Both. Since middle school. Used to hate glasses, but now I love them. Only thing I don't like is the poor vision that comes with it, haha. Contacts are for work or trips to places like theme parks where I'm afraid they'll fall off on a ride or something.

Crush on anyone?: No one that's real, lol, and my fictional "crushes" are said more as a joke more than anything. Am I opposed to the idea of romance and being in a relationship? Not at all, but I'm not gonna go out of my way to find one or stress out about it either. If it happens, it happens, and if not, that's cool too.

Favorite fictional characters: Now these I have a lot of. Yusuke Urameshi, Yagami Taichi, Gary Oak, Roronoa Zoro (although I love all the strawhats really), Michelangelo (though again, I love pretty much all the ninja turtles), Knuckles, Tails, Professor Layton, Donald Duck, Sora, Cloud Strife, Vincent Valentine, Zack Fair, Maes Hughes (and most of the FMAB cast), Luigi, and many more. These are just some of the first ones that come to mind, but it would take too long if I did all of them, lol.

Hello friends!

I think this is my first proper post of content I've made-- ever! It's a fanwork for Pokémon (Submas, to be precise!)!

So recently, as shown by my singular shitpost, I've gotten back into Pokémon (do I really ever get out of it? No. No I don't) and have gotten into the submas community!

I've begun a fanfiction of an AU of mine, called Timeline-43/&/76, or TL-43/&/76 or TL-4&6 as shorter versions. It's basically just Pokémon headcanons and some changed stuff and all put into an "AU" lol.

I've started a fanfiction called "Across Space, Time and Dreams", or "ASTaD" (cuz I haven't thought of a more proper name lol) where it's just Submas stuff around when Legends Arceus happens, after the main game! An important thing to note is that I'm gonna be working on multiple versions of this fic because I'm quite indecisive and love sharing my ideas. This one, the one I'm currently working on, is a more simple, less tense fic, which I've subbed "ASTaD_1.0". The more complicated, tense one will be "ASTaD_2.0". There's also "ASTaD_0.0" which will just be ideas for either or if I want to ramble. Hopefully this isn't too terribly confusing, I will try to title and tag each post appropriately so it's easier to navigate lol.

I don't have an Ao3 account or anything like that so I put it on a public Google Doc! Hopefully that'll work! I didn't wanna put it as screenshots, but if it'll be better off as something else, do tell!

Friday 1/10/21 - Media Recommendations #20

Contents: Deltarune

I'd been meaning to get to this one for ages, so once again, I think to make it easier on myself, and my readers, today I am only recommending the latest videogame creation of Toby Fox. This ended up being quite an extensive article, so I split it into sections:

1. MY CONTEXT

So context for my own gaming experience going into Deltarune, I have never actually played Undertale. Back when Undertale was getting big, it was only a PC game I think, and I just don't play games on PC. I probably should but yeah nah. Soon after it got popular however, I watched a comprehensive Lets Play of Undertale by Rubber Ross and Barry Kramer, and their voices for Sans and Papyrus are still to this day how I imagine those characters. Through that Lets Play, I experienced both the Pacifist and Genocide runs, and got intimately well acquainted with the characters and world Toby Fox had created, and how the actions of the player can shape how we save or ruin that world.

As a general context, I have always been a person who likes the idea of turn-based, random encounter fantasy RPGs, but the deepest I really got was Pokémon. I've been trying to change that recently, and after beating Monster Hunter Stories 2 a while back, I wanted to try more of the genre. Turn based battles are a lot more my speed than pure skill, like fighting games I've become sick of, and RPGs seem to be big on story, so when I heard the Deltarune demo had an update, I thought this is finally the time to jump into that world.

Going forward in this review, I'm gonna try and stay broad and unspecific with my descriptions, so as to not spoil. I may discuss some gameplay themes and characters, but I'm avoiding giving specifics away. I really think you need to experience all parts of the game yourself first.

Minor Spoilers for Undertale and Deltarune Ahead

2. OVERVIEW/PREMISE

Deltarune is a project of love. Pure charm and personality ooze from every aspect of the game. Dialogue is clever and snarky, and that charm even leaks into item and location flavour text. The setting and themes are fun, but with a bloodstained silver lining that is best appreciated by mature audiences. I guess I should just explain the premise?

Deltarune puts you in the shoes of a human named Kris. For unexplained reasons you live in a world of monsters and you are the only human. And by monsters, I mean curious looking critters of a variety of shapes and sizes, since, there is really nothing monstrous about them. One day at school, Kris and classmate Susie end up being transported to a whole different world where dark fountains construct monstrous subworlds, and it is up to the chosen ones, the lightners Susie, Kris and darkner (dark world native) Prince Ralsei, to seal the evils of this dark alternate world.

Deltarune is still a work in progress, and as the subtitle of this article suggests, 2 Chapters of a possible 7(?) have been released, and it is unknown at the time of writing if the rest will come out when the game is done, or as more standalone chapters.

3. GAMEPLAY

Deltarune borrows a lot of theming and game loop premise from its parent game Undertale. The tag line of Undertale was: the RPG where noone has to die. This is because the encounter based battle system is built on two courses of action to take. You may FIGHT enemies and reduce their HP to zero, or you may ACT, and talk the enemy into leaving the battle. Deltarune is built on this same system, but with extra layers. Kris is the stand in for the Undertale MC, who has the options to FIGHT, ACT, ITEM, SPARE, or GUARD. Most of those options were in Undertale too, but Guarding is a new addition where you earn Tension Points, or TP, for not engaging the enemy at all.

This TP is used for extra powerful ACT actions, or for special moves of the other party members. This is the main big difference in gameplay loop. Since the player controls a party now rather than just one person, each party member can specialise in different action types. Kris's ACT can incorporate input from other party members; Susie for toughness and Ralsei for softness, in general. Susie is the powerhouse, and if you chose the violent route, she does more damage. Ralsei is the Mage, and can heal allies, as well as use magic to resolve fights peacefully. Those extra abilities use TP.

In most turn based RPGs, there is a back and forth, where the player chooses actions, and sometimes there is a timing aspect to how well those actions perform, and then there's the enemy's turn, where most of the time you just have to wait and let it happen. Undertale and Deltarune have this truly unique system where the soul of the party members, represented by a heart, is directly controlled on the enemy's turn. It's a mini game unique to every enemy type, where you must move the heart around to dodge their attacks, and how good you dodge will decide whether you take a lot of damage, or even none at all. Deltarune adds an extra layer onto this, where if you make the dodge closer, so that the enemy only JUST misses, you earn TP, and open up more options for your next turn. I found this extra detail really endearing, and I made a lot more riskier moves than if there was no incentive to.

I probably mentioned it above, but just to close out this section, the option to either ACT or FIGHT opens up two types of play. Chapter 1, being a sort of intro part, does not differentiate, but the distinction becomes important later. ACTing to SPARE an enemy earns you money, and in Chapter 2, will lead to befriending monsters. FIGHTing will also earn you EXP in Chapter 2, making your options to hurt enemies more powerful. In Undertale, this difference in playstyle actually changed the ending in real time, and from what we know of Deltarune, it is likely going to be the same case.

4. PRESENTATION

Undertale had this unique visual charm to it that may have been a limitation of its Independent Development, but it was probably also a stylistic choice. Deltarune builds on the same type of artstyle, adorable pixel sprite graphics that bring a lot more colour and depth than its predecessor.

Many, but not all characters have little character portraits in their textboxes, and they change expressions to match the situation, and its so cute.

Character and enemy design are so top-notch. A team of designers have been brought on this time, and every one of them have brought gold to the table. Every random battle encounter is dripping with personality, as you learn how best to sweet talk your way out of battle, or how to best destroy them. Most recurring NPCs are lovable, and those who you hate, you love to hate. Dialogue is witty and hilarious, and the writing is fun.

The chiptune style soundtrack is phenomenal. Although I think Undertale's common enemy battle them was more memorable, that may just be that I have become more familiar with it. All character and boss battle themes are so catchy and energetic. Toby Fox is a master of high energy... fun music. It gets stuck in your head, and your brain bounces around at high velocity.

5. CONCLUSION

Ok so this review is already like 3 times longer than a normal Media Recommendation Article, and like 5 times longer than I planned it to be for this one game, so I should probably wrap it up here. Deltarune is a game experience I put off playing for way too long, and now I can't hold my excitement for when the next part comes out. And important to keep in mind, it is essentially a demo, in that it is just a taste of what's to come, but it is a damn meaty demo that will keep you engaged for many hours.

Chapters 1 and 2 are packaged together as a free game on most game platforms at this point, so there's nothing really stopping you from giving it a try. I don't usually rate my recommendations, but since I wrote this more like a review, I might as well...

Creepiest Locations in Pokémon

So, I don't really do Top 10 lists or stuff like that but I recently recieved Black 2 from a friend and reached one of the creepy game locations (you know what I'm talking about).

Suffice to say, I thought I'd talk a little about the creepiest locations in Pokemon.

Without further ado, let us begin!

Strange House - Unova Region

Yeah yeah, playing Black 2 so OF COURSE I'd put this on the list, right? Well that's not why. I put this on the list because it, for me, is the CREEPIEST location in Pokemon. Having not played White 2 in a while (because I lost it heh heh ^^') I had mostly forgotten it until now. I find Strange House to be the creepiest location in Pokemon not just because of the way it looks. The entire thing is Hellagar creepy. Not only does it have some of the eeriest music ever, but the furniture moves on it's own. AND YOU CAN HEAR IT MOVING. Straight up paranormal crap guys (and I'd know, I have paranormal investigative training and I'm a sensitive). When I first encountered this place I was super tentative about walking around inside. I jumped three feet when the first Pokemon Battle activated, no joke. Not to mention the backstory. A little girl put in an eternal nightmare by Darkrai who never wakes up and dies in her sleep? Yeah, no thanks. *horrified shuddering* Let's move on, shall we?

Old Chateau - Sinnoh Region

Yeah, you guys kinda expected this one huh? I put this on the list because it also has some seriously creepy music. Sure, Strange House is creepy, but mostly on the inside. Old Chateau is creepy ALL AROUND. Even the dilapidated exterior just screams "Yeah btw I have demons locked up in here, that a problem bro?" HELLGAR YES, IT IS! But that isn't even the creepiest part. The Chateau is straight up haunted. Ghosts of residents and even a butler can be found wandering around inside. Encountering them is for the most part a random event, except for the little girl, who you simply encounter by entering rooms on the second floor in order. Still not the creepiest part. In one of said rooms is a painting...who's EYES MOVE WITH YOU SO IT IS ALWAYS WATCHING. Plus in the kitchen possessed tableware flies at you if you stay too long. Even better? Find all the ghosts and a secret door under the stairs opens up to take you to the basement. Lovely. And guess who's down there? The creepy as Shuppet Gengar who's been using that painting I mentioned earlier to stalk you. I was so afraid of this place that I wouldn't enter it for like 2 years after the games came out. One look and I was like "Nope, nope, nope, nope, nope. Did I say NOPE?!"

Lavender Tower - Kanto Region

This is obviously a classic from my childhood. Lavender Tower was the original creepfest of Pokemon, and while it may not actually be all that scary anymore, going in there without a Silph Scope was terrifying as a kid. Literally everything was a ghost, not just the ACTUAL ghost of Marowak that haunted the place. Even your Pokemon were too scared to fight in this place. Not to mention the crazy as Shuppet Channelers walking around the joint. Yeesh. Get a life guys.

Caves - All Regions

I know, I know. You're all thinking, Seriously?! You're afraid of CAVES?! Well hold on. Have you ever walked one without Flash, back in the old days when the screen was just black? It's not so much the dark that's terrifying. It's the idea of never escaping that cave. Of being lost in there forever because you can't bear to lose those Pokemon you've spent months lovingly raising. Without Flash, your options were: Try and stumble around in the dark hoping to get lucky and find a way out, or restart your game and do things from the beginning because you done messed up my friend. Horrible. Not to mention you had no idea what might be down there.

Kaminko's House - Orre Region

I don't care what you say, when the screen suddenly goes black and white and some deranged lunatic comes flying out of a creepy mansion surrounded by dead trees roving like a madman to challenge you to a battle, it's creepy. It may not be super scary, but still creepy. Especially when you enter the building and discover that it's home to basically a mad scientist. For a while I thought the player character, Michael, was gonna almost get murdered. Super weird stuff in there I tell you.

Scary House - Kalos Region

Not actually that scary. The way this location becomes pretty creepy is by watching the XY anime episode that goes with it. It reveals the house to basically be a house of horrors for Ash and friends. The old man they find there says it's all for the sake of saying hello the Ghost Pokemon Way. Entertaining his guests with a good scare as it were, except that at the end of the episode both he AND THE HOUSE DISAPPEAR. Then they reappear for Team Rocket. A DISAPPEARING HOUSE?! How is that NOT creepy?

Chargestone Cave - Unova Region

It's dark, weird stones float around, and it has creepy music. Yeah, no thanks. That being said, I absolutely LOVE Chargestone Cave. It is one of my favorite locations in Pokemon, but it's still creepy. You can practically FEEL the supercharged air through the game screen, which sets off all your instincts to flee, and you never know when a Pokemon is gonna suddenly attack you. It just has an all around creepy feeling to it.

Pokemon Mansion - Kanto Region

Oh look, and abandoned mansion. Let's go look inside! Creepy music and statues with switches and eyes that light up? Great! Oh boy, a book! Let's read it. Oh it's a journal…with the creation of a superstrong clone of Mew in it…Oh yeah, btw you're just casually walking around in a place where Mewtwo SLAUGHTERED ALL OF IT'S CREATORS. LOVELY! No big deal, just an abandoned house of DEATH. And you better have an Escape Rope with you if you plan to jump off that broken floor, cuz if you don't you'll be stuck there…FOREVER. Place is super creepy. And thanks to the one and only Braxton Burks and his musical reboot called Kanto Symphony, it just got creepier. Woo!

Route 217 - Sinnoh Region

Yup. I'm just gonna paste this snippet from Bulbapedia:

“If the player re-enters the house near the Ice Rock after the Spell Tag is obtained, the woman that gives it has disappeared. When obtaining the Spell Tag, her speech is: "...A person...? ...A rare sight... ...Thank you for visiting... ...A gift..." The nature of the item, in conjunction with Ace Trainer Olivia's comments of hauntings in the area, implies that the woman was a ghost, specifically a Yuki-onna.”

A Yuki-onna is a Japanese ghost woman who froze to death and roams snowcovered mountains waiting to kill people. It's a wonder the player survived. O.O

N's Room - Unova Region

I LOVE N. Love, love, LOVE him, but his room is creepier than a Mega Banette in a dark alley. N obviously has some serious mental issues, and it's this implication of dereanged mental health, combined with equally deranged music, that makes this place so darn creepy. The whole CASTLE is creepy, but this room takes the cake for creepiest room in the whole building.

Abandoned Site - Alola Region

Not exactly THE scariest location, this newest of creep fests lies in the context of it and the idea of being there in person. I know I'd find it super eerie, especially at night and when Accerola mentions she thinks you're crazy because the room you found Mimikyu in doesn't exist. Gave me some chills, let me tell you. Observant players will notice Mimikyu in the background of this scene, shuffling away behind the chainlink fence.

Pokémon School - Alola Region

While normally cheery and upbeat, if the player does a sidequest in UltraSun and UltraMoon this innocent place of learning turns into the stuff of nightmares. A creepy little girl and her Drifloon want you to look into some rumors...and appear only at night. The music makes for utterly terrifying atmosphere that will give you chills, especially if you find your own school creepy at night. While the occurences turn out to be completely harmless or normal things they make for some heartpounding suspense, and the little girl and Drifloon mysteriously disappear after you finish investigating. Creepy. It is strangely satisfying if you time it right like me and end up completing the quest at in game dawn though.

headcanon: family

alright it’s the moment we’ve all been waiting for: some insights into just how bad gio’s experiences with family have literally always been!! it’s a lot longer than kukui’s was because this is the kinda shit i think about all the damn time [thumbs up emoji]

What is their relationship and feelings toward any major family members? Do they get along with their family? Which family member does your character get along with the best? Who do they get along with the worst?

Giovanni and his mother aren't currently on speaking terms and haven't been in contact with one another in..... 15 years. She might even be dead for all he knows, but he's pretty sure that in the event of her death she'd have shit set up so Giovanni would hear about it. Or. Maybe she wouldn't.

Basically his entire life she never seemed to place much sentimental value on family. She rarely talked about her parents and he never met either of them. The only connections he has to them are his name, which he shared with his grandfather, and a family picture he found with the two of them and his mother. When he was older he tried to find stuff out on his own and learned that there was a lot of painful history there which is probably why MB avoided it so much. I’ll probably make a post on that someday?? We’ll see.

As far as his father goes, Gio literally never knew him so it wasn't situation where he felt like the guy wasn't there for him. He just wasn't there, period. And when he got older, he realized it wasn't even his father's choice not to be in his life. The idea of having a dad was like a childhood fantasy he daydreamed about. Whenever he was unhappy he'd imagine his dad showing up and taking him away on amazing adventures. Basically like dreaming that when you turn 11 you'll get a letter to Hogwarts. He knew it was never ever gonna happen but also a tiny childish part of him thought, “But maybe...”

(The thing about that though is that as he got older he came up with a ton of reasons why he didn't need a father. So in trying to make nice with Silver, it's like all those reasons are coming back turned against him and it kind of makes him Feel Stuff about his dad even though he thought all those issues were in the past.)

But the thing to pick up on here is that Madame Boss was Giovanni's entire experience with family. He literally never had any other relatives until Silver. He and Silver's mother were together at the time, but they weren’t a very compatible couple (read: they were both bad people in different ways) and should never have been together for longer than a few months—instead they had a kid and were basically stuck with one another for years.

Eventually they reached a point where they worked things out so he financially supported her and Silver but didn’t live with her. Which worked out well for them but wasn’t the best environment to grow up in, and things only got worse between them as time went on. Giovanni doesn't consider her family at all and really doesn't give a shit about where she is or what she's doing which is. Realllllly not a good look for him. But if anyone was looking for an in-universe reason why he never talks or thinks about the mother of his child, that's it!

AND FINALLY aside from all the issues with Silver’s mom, Giovanni and Silver used to have a pretty good relationship. Obviously “good” is relative here but he did make some effort to be involved in Silver's life and be there for him and generally give Silv a better experience growing up than he had. Which involved lying to him literally every day but!!!!!!! Yanno!!!

Anyway, he liked the kid and enjoyed having him around and actually probably would have liked being a dad a lot more if everything else about the situation hadn't been so ass backwards. But then he went and fucked it all up and is doing an absolutely awful job of fixing things up. Protip: playing on your kid's past emotional trauma and unresolved abandonment issues and lying about your plans and intentions in order to get them to talk to you again ISN'T A GREAT START!

So as far as ‘best’ and ‘worst’ relationships go..... take your pick, they’re all trash.

Does your character know anyone they consider family but are not actually related to?

Persian. Like, I have no idea how long Pokémon are supposed to live because I honestly can't think of a more fucking depressing question and I'm almost positive it shouldn't be "as long as a person," but hey. Fuck it. Pokémon live forever and they are capable of understanding humans/emotions on a basic level. So Persian is like if your favorite pet could live for 80 years and understand your love for them and fully reciprocate. It's the purest goddamn thing and Giovanni is kinda of the misguided belief that this is a very special relationship that only he and Persian have.

..When in reality this is how most of the best trainers feel about their teams, and if Giovanni had that kind of connection with the rest of his Pokémon, he might actually be the Strongest Trainer. Still, nobody has ever ever ever loved him as much as Persian and she is so supremely special to him. You'd think that relationship would make him think twice about stealing and abusing Pokémon, but instead he's just a massive hypocrite. Nice!!

Also petition to make Jessie and James canon to the group b/c I'm very attached to hcs involving Miyamoto and Jessie being involved in Gio's lil shitty Team Rocket fam. So here have a bunch of semi-relevant hcs for it anyway: I feel like Miyamoto was one of the few people who could make MB genuinely happy, and when she was happy she was much more tolerable to be around. I think Miya would've had some empathy for Giovanni's situation and might’ve tried to make stuff easier on him, even though she always loved MB most. So he'd dislike her for being his mother's second in command but reluctantly admit that she wasn't all bad. Also I love this art and Gio for sure played babysitter to Jessie when their moms were off in Kalos livin it up or whatever the fuck. Major pain in his ass and after her mum dies and she's put into foster care he isn't too upset to see her go... but later he realizes she got a bad break and when she joins TR he cuts her (probably too much) slack to make up for being a piece of shit and maybe also for letting Miya down by not watching out for Jessie the way she watched out for him.

His best memory isn't even all that good really? He was 11 and his mother took him on a cruise to celebrate a big job Team Rocket pulled off. And it was a very new experience not just because of the cruise but because they were there together. She didn’t have to bring him, but she chose to and she'd never done that before. And most of the time she spent with Miyamoto her executives and he was kind of just a tag along but it was the closest to ‘normal’ he'd ever felt.

And his worst memory is probably this since it was so traumatic and MB really did nothing but make him fixate on it even more. But since family isn’t really the main focus of that one, second-worst is probably the time MB left w/o warning for like 3 weeks. No one knew what was up, if TR was over or if she’d ever come back, and 13 y/o Gio kinda had to face the fact that she left without him. She did return and tried to make him feel like he’d overreacted and that there was nothing to worry about, but he knew she was lying. It really broke any remaining trust he had in her and taught him not to rely on anyone else.

Only reason I submitted Leafeon was so I could show off this ~masterpiece~ of a plushie I own. And it's face isn't the only thing wrong with it too lol. YEAH it's super unbelievably fucked up. i think i kinda remember the circumstance being a bit dire so everyone else was more worried about either 1. protagonist getting stomped on brutally or 2. saving the world from kyurem / the bittercold. i was totally under the impression that he was dead in that moment but i guess the characters may have known that he would just come back? i seem to vaguely remember partner being surprised that he came back and being like "but we watched you die :OOO" but maybe i'm misremembering that. i do create a lot of pmd lore on my own time so i have a hard time telling the difference between canon and fanon sometimes
