Love After the Fact Chapter 10: Time to Sharpen Up

Chances of survival are dwindling into single digits... because Lance is lousy with a sword.

“Come on now, Lance. You’re better than this.” Alfor frowns, following his son's uncertain footwork.

“I’m really not.” The droid pulls on its whip, Lance’s broadsword tangled in the glowing cord. The Altean is panting, skin glistening.

Alfor presses his thumbs into his eyelids, though whether with disappointment or embarrassment, Lance can never tell.

He’s not a good warrior. Not with a sword.

Keith just watches, tail flicking back and forth, ears following Lance’s movements. Shiro stands on his right, visibly unimpressed, but trying to be polite.

Lance sighs. He’s just not very good at this. The droid charges, too fast. Lance has been distracted by his audience, hasn’t seen the advance. It’s a genuine mistake, this time.

“Lance!” Alfor yells, drawing his own weapon to protect his son while Coran tries to end the training sequence. The training sequence can’t end during an attack.

Too fast. Alfor won’t get there in time.

Lance throws a hand up, a flash of blinding blue light flaring from his palm.

Light threads through every crack and crevice in the charging droid, saturating its wires, melting, warping, disintegrating in the blinding light. It crumbles into nothing a mere spot from his outstretched palm.

He collapses to his knees. Too much. Too fast.

“Invalid technique. Victory forfeited,” rings out from the walls. Keith gapes, eyes wide. What a terrifying thing to be able to do to something. Lance could do that to him.

“End training sequence.” Alfor crouches beside him. “Son, are you alright?” Lance meets his father’s worried gaze with weary eyes. Alfor softens. Lance’s eyes find the floor.

“Don’t worry. You’ll get there.” Alfor gently helps him up. “If nothing else, you have plenty of untapped potential. And I know you’re capable.” The king looks his son over, anxiously checking for injuries. Lance nods, staring at the training room floor. “Look at me.”

Lance looks.

“I know you have it in you, son.” Alfor cards a gentle hand through Lance's hair. Lance nods, more for his father’s benefit than anything else.

He doesn’t feel much at all. The things Lance wishes he were good at are the things everyone knows he’s bad at and the things he’s actually good at, no one knows at all. It’s mostly intentional, but in this case, it’s reality. With his father, his spouse, and his spouse’s brother watching, it bites.

Everyone else disperses to return to whatever they were doing, leaving just himself and Keith. The Galra comes over, tail flicking like a pendulum. “I know you said you were lousy with a sword, but...”

“But quiznak am I lousy, huh?” Keith nods, sheepish. “We should go hunting soon. I can finally try out that bow Zarkon gave me for my birthday. You can see my actual skills then.”

“Sounds good.” Keith’s ears are wilted today. Lance knows why.

“We have a few vargas before it’s time to say goodbye.” Lance puts a hand on Keith’s arm. “Is there anything you’d like to do?”

“I think… I think I’d just like to go and… sit in the loft in our quarters, if that’s alright. I know we have work to do, but-”

“Go on. If anyone asks, I’ll say you’re helping the Captain get his affairs are in order and that you’re both working to ensure your safety after he’s gone. Commander Iverson is certain to be bitter about it, since he’s technically in charge of your safety, but I consider that a bonus, personally.” Lance grins, and Keith manages a small smile, despite both his aching hearts.

Lance only has one. How he gets enough oxygen with only one heart is beyond Keith’s capacity to understand. Perhaps that's why he's so bad with a sword.

Up in the loft, Keith finds himself looking out at the grounds. He can’t see beyond the castle walls. He’s never seen beyond the castle walls, not even when he got here. He’s never met the commonwealth, never seen any wilderness. If this past movement is any indication, the Alteans are perfectly content to restrict him to the castle walls and never give him the opportunity to leave. Keith is still staring out the window of the tower loft, half-extended claw dragging down the fine glass, when there’s a knock at the door. He turns away from the purpling sky to find Adam.

“Prince Yorak, Crown Prince Lancel has sent me to escort you to the launch.”

Keith sighs, nods, leaps down from the landing, not bothering with the ladder. “Will I ever be permitted to go somewhere alone?”

Adam sighs, holding the door open for him. Keith trusts this Altean more than the others, though still not much. “Likely not. You are not held in fond regard.”

“So we are still pretending this is for my benefit.”

“No. You are also under constant surveillance. One of the guards posted outside your door is a Listener, one who uses alchemy to enhance their hearing. You’ll be pleased to know that their only report thus far was that you have not yet consummated your union to Crown Prince Lancel. King Alfor is not pleased.”

Keith stops in his tracks. “My body is the only possession I have left.”

Adam turns to him, pushing up his glasses, ever-present datapad cradled in his arm the way one might cradle a baby to their hip. He looks… sad, but trying for indifferent. “That’s where you’re wrong, Prince Yorak. You swore fealty to your King. Everything that you are belongs to Altea, including your body. You have been contracted out to the Crown. That being said, I have instructed the Listener to wait a phoeb, then claim you have mated with the Crown Prince.” Keith frowns, trying to understand.

Adam smiles, lips curling. “Your reality is that you are a living possession. But reality can be manipulated with relative ease. I can make your perceived reality far, far different from what it is. I can make you charming, demure, innocent, beautiful, powerful, awe-inspiring, terrifying, loathsome, dangerous- whatever Crown Prince Lancel wants. That is what you are.”

Keith stares at the green-scaled Altean, eyes wide. The ruff of fur down his back rises with a sudden chill. “You- I’m beginning to think you are the most dangerous thing on Altea.”

“You may very well be correct. Shall we?” Adam turns, leading them down yet another hall.

“My brother sure knows how to pick ‘em,” Keith mutters, more to himself than anybody else.

Adam trips. “Excuse me?”

“Oh. You couldn’t tell?” Keith cocks his head. Adam blinks, hazel eyes wide. He shakes his head. “My brother is embarrassingly smitten with you. It’s really funny, actually.” Keith smiles. “It’s... nice, I guess. At home, he’s always so imposing. He’s imposing a lot here, too. It’s nice to see some other side of him working its way into the open. He normally saved that for when we were in our den, away from everyone else... I think he likes it here.”

“Everyone likes it here. Everyone except you, it seems.” Everyone else gets to go home. Adam turns before backing his way through the doors to the launch pad. “Though, as far as the commonwealth is concerned, you miss your homeland, but our beloved Crown Prince is the only thing you need to be happy.”

Adam grins as he holds the door open. Shiro tugs Keith out into the open before he can step past, pulling him into an all-encompassing embrace. Keith doesn’t even try to resist.

“I’m really gonna miss you,” Keith whispers, a slight whimper in his voice as he throws his arms around his brother.

“Aw, I’ll miss you too.” Shiro gives him a squeeze, eliciting a gentle purr from the young prince. “It won’t be so bad. Lance is a good man. He’ll be good to you.”

“He has been thus far.” Keith doesn’t enjoy the admission, but there it is. Not everything is terrible. “Even if he’s a terrible warrior.”

“True. He is. But he seems to like you well enough. And this place... I know you haven’t seen much of it yet, but it is beautiful here.”

“I know. And it’s nice. But it’s not home.”

Shiro smiles, one of his large hands rubbing the spots behind the younger Galra’s ears. “I’m proud of you for doing this. For not putting up fuss or fight. Sometimes, that’s the hardest thing you can do.”

“I know. I have no regrets. No matter what might happen.” Shiro steps back then, regarding him with that cool gaze. A soldier’s gaze. The captain nods, lays a fist over his breast. Keith returns the gesture. He’s a soldier. Not a pampered prince. A soldier.

Lance watches the farewell, not saying a word. He knows all of this already. His spouse is a warrior, not a lord or a prince. Lance needs to do better to support that lifestyle. Keith can’t be happy sitting around reading all day. In the meantime, he walks over and places his hand on the small of Keith’s back, trying to be supportive.

He wants Keith to know he's here for him.

Lance is surprised when the Galra’s ear turns toward him and his tail curls around his ankle. It’s the furthest Keith has chosen to acknowledge Lance’s presence in view of other people without it being for show. Adam has fallen to gossiping about how cripplingly shy the new prince is to save face.

Speaking of which... Shiro steps up to the Altean, leans down, whispers something in his ear. Adam’s face turns bright red, scales glittering brilliant green as the Galra draws back, grinning from ear to ear. Lance hears a snort as Keith tries not to laugh. He smiles. “I’m going to invite him back as soon as possible. Watching these two flirt is the most fun I’ve had in my life.”

“It’s hilarious,” Keith agrees, whispering in Lance’s ear.

“Reminds me of watching my fathers flirt, to be honest. It’s the only time I’ve ever seen Alfor undignified.” Lance grins. “I’ll tell you about it sometime, if you want.”

“I- I’d like that, actually.” Keith smiles an uncertain smile, willing but not hopeful.

The spouses stand side-by-side as the ship carrying Shiro departs for Daibazaal. A soft keen in Keith’s throat informs Lance the warrior prince wishes he could be on that ship too.

“It will be alright, Keith. You’ll see him again. I promise.”

The Other Side

Notes: This idea came up while listening to this cover of The Other Side. Ava is basically my version of our dear main character Yuu. This story is taking place little before the Scarabia Episode. Bonus information, Ava is bad at taking decision, so she always orders two drinks because it avoids her the dilemma of choosing.

Please also note that English is not my first language, sorry for any grammatical mistakes.

Ever since Ava sang that day, Azul wanted to get her to sing for Monstro Lounge. That day, after the overblot disaster that happened to him, she went to the piano and sang heavenly to prove him wrong with his "you don't even a beautiful voice" comment when he lured her to sign a contract with him. And she did prove him wrong… Belting, high notes, playing the piano…

She dared to prove him wrong in front of the whole Lounge, sitting at the piano which was usually used as a mere decoration. And what he did not miss was people's reaction: Ace and Deuce were smiling proudly, Grim was already cheering, Jack's ears were standing straight in attention, Jade seemed mesmerized, Floyd had a huge smile and even asked for more… And the clients of the Lounge kept their eyes on her, captivated, and applauded once she ended her performance. A real siren, even if she was only human. And Ava looked so happy, as if playing the piano and singing on the happy beat was what made her the happiest in this world. As if this place was where she was meant to be.

This was when Azul decided he had to make her sing for Monstro Lounge. She would attract more customers for sure, and she would be just were she belonged and was the happiest. A big win-win situation, right?

So why was she refusing each time he made the proposal to her? Was it because of the whole contract incident that made she could not trust him? Sadly, he could not give her wrong for being cautious, after what he did to her. Yet, he was not planning on giving up.

Today again, Ava came to have a drink - or rather two - at Monstro Lounge. It became her way to take a break from Grim's mess. She let him at the Heartslabyul Dorm (with Riddle's permission, of course) with Ace and Deuce, and she came here and ordered something.

"A milk latte and a chocolate sundae, I suppose," Jade said when he saw Ava sitting down at the counter. This is another habit she took, to sit there so she could talk with the twins. "Yes, please," the brunette smiled, before looking around her. "Is it me or is it less busy than usual?"

"It is," Jade replied while preparing her usual drinks. Ava was about to talk again, but she was cut short by a sudden weight on her back. She laughed a little, knowing perfectly where – or rather from who – this weight was coming from.

"Hello, Floyd," she noted, looking up towards the hyper eel, before feeling arms wrapped themselves around her small shape. "Little Shrimpy is back ~" he sang as a reply. He let himself fall on the chair next to Ava and kept his arms around her while Jade settled the two drinks in front of her.

"Thanks, Jade," Ava smiled. She shuffled a little to free her arms from Floyd's iron grip. She got strangely used to it, enough to know how to free herself from it… Somehow. The girl grabbed her milk latte, breathed in its sweet aroma and finally drank a few sips.

"Floyd, we are within working hours."

This voice… That was Azul suddenly coming up to the counter. Ava sighed, knowing perfectly why he was leaving his VIP room to come here. When they come across each other at school, she always smiles at him and is even down for a little chat, to talk about anything. But at Monstro Lounge, it was another story, because she knew what he wanted.

"But I want to hang out with Shrimpy," Floyd pouted. He tightened his grip around the brown girl, gaining a little squeak out of her. There he was, going into his 'not in the mood' mode. The teal haired balanced his legs back and forth, like a child, not moving from his spot. Azul sighed before looking over Jade, this glance alone enough to make him know what he wanted.

Jade managed to undo his brother’s iron grip on Ava and took a grumbling Floyd away in the kitchen. Ava looked away from Azul who sat down where her eel friend was seconds ago. “I know what you want, and the answer is still ‘no’,” she said before he could ask anything.

“The twins seem quite fond of you, I’m sure they would love to have you working here,” he commented. “You won’t have me by using them,” she cut him, “plus, pretty sure they’re fonder of the fun my clumsiness can bring them.” Ava went back to drinking her milk latte, avoiding any kind of eye contact. His eyes with his talk were a deadly combo. After all, this was how he won so many contracts in the past. The brunette knew better to look into his eyes when he was asking for anything.

From the corner of her eyes, she saw Azul take her chocolate sundae to drink a few sips out of it. “Hey!” This was enough to make her finally look his way. “You sure love sweet drinks,” he commented, putting ‘his’ glass back on the table.

It was already too late when she realized her mistake. ‘Can’t believe I fell for this,’ she thought.

Azul kept his eyes on brunette, patiently waiting. Feeling nervous under his gaze, Ava let out a long sigh. “Look, Azul, I know how you told me you were going to tone down with the contracts and shady business, but it doesn’t change the fact I don’t want to work under you,” she explained, “being part of a mafia isn’t really my thing.” Even if she said this last part with a joking tone, she was still half-serious with it.

“Dear, I’m not going to chase you down eternally,” Azul added, “but I do think this offer would benefit us both.”

“First, it feels like I’m being chase down, and second, sorry, but I’m good, busy enough already with trying to survive in this school,” the girl noted in a nervous laugh. Ever since she arrived, she went through three overblot incidents, dealing with a monster cat who refuses to cooperate, dealing with Master Raven not being of any help with returning her home, thinking her head would be literally chomped at some point, being punched by an angry overblot Dorm Leader, having a Magical Shift’s disk smashed into her head, being chased away from her own dorm and around in the sea… So ‘survive’ really was the word.

“Talking about that, we could help you with the surviving part.”

“I’m not searching for bodyguards…”

“I am sure people would come just to listen to your voice and would recognize your talent.”

“I don’t seek recognition either.”

“But you would have fun singing.”

“I can already do that anywhere.”

“And some free food and drinks from the Lounge.”

“You won’t buy me with food, as much as I love it.”

“Financial independence from the headmaster.”

Ava stopped. She had nothing to reply to this point, mainly because this was what she wanted: independence from the headmaster. He always cried about how generous he was to help her, but at the same time used this ‘help’ to make her do anything he wanted. Actually, she thought before about taking a part-time job at Sam’s shop to be a little more independent.

The young lady looked away before looking at Azul again. That smirk on his face… He knew he just found the right string to pull. Sure, he had a beautiful smile, but his smirk made her want to punch him right in the face. 

“This is what you seek, am I right?” The silver haired asked. The lack of reply from Ava was saying everything. “If you accept to perform a few songs to attract more customers, I will make sure to pay you for your work, I promise.”

…

“Being freer does sound nice, isn’t it?” He continued. “I see only winning points for you. Money, freedom, fun, being yourself… I think it is a deal worth making, but as I said, I’m not going to chase you down any longer. So, I will leave it up to you.”

A confident smile on his face, Azul extended his hand to the perplexed girl who just stared at it, trying to take a decision without falling in a trap. And at last, a sigh…

“I’m not signing anything with you.”

“It was not my attention.”

“And I’m not going to help you with anything illegal or deal-related things.”

“I was not asking you to.”

“And I have a troublesome cat to take care of, so I won’t work every day.”

“How does only the weekends at first sound like?”

“Will my pay be real money, though?”

“I would not dare to lie.”

“Can’t you give me a straight answer to this?” Ava sighed. She could not believe she was really doing this. But she finally took Azul’s hand to shake it. This was the cost of being financially independent from the Raven Headmaster. She felt Azul’s fingers wrap themselves back around her hand. Why did she feel like she fell back into a trap?

“You do know it is illegal to work without contracts, don’t you?”

“Oh my god, Azul!”

And so started Ava’s part-time job as a singer for Monstro Lounge.

The Start Of Something New

My entry for the Overwatch Rarepair Week 2018

This is also sort of a background story of my Reinhardt in a University AU. Big thanks goes to @gazeintotheiris for inspiring me with this AU and I hope there’s many more ideas and stories incoming <3

When Reinhardt Wilhelm had first signed his contract for the teaching position at a well-known international university, he had expected his life to change once more and many new things to happen. The changes that were going to happen, though, were something he could not have prepared himself for...he fell in love.

Moving from the city that was his hometown during his time as a student to a new city, even a new country, was a pleasant change of scenery and the first major change in his life in quite a while.

His extraordinary doctoral thesis had opened him the opportunity for this teaching position and the possibilities that were now in front of him seemed almost endless. Even though he had always stayed humble about his own achievements, Reinhardt was proud to have his research and the many stressful hours that he had spent on writing his thesis acknowledged in such a way.

After the first two years teaching he finally finished his first book, a small project he had been writing since his time back in Stuttgart. Much to his surprise, no one else seemed to see it as a ‘small’ project and the sales figures went through the roof. Never would he have thought that people would be so interested in history and philosophy still, but maybe there was something about an ex-soldier, now professor, writing about his experiences with different cultures and the daily confrontations with life and death when on missions in warzones.

As a result to his book being such a huge success, his teaching contract had been extended indefinitely and as a bonus, even though he did not need it thanks to the major sales of his first book, his salary had been raised.

Moving from the small apartment he had first gotten when he moved to the city, into a small house he had bought at the edge of town, Reinhardts life was beginning to settle into a pleasant routine. Time passed with him teaching, researching and writing a second book which kept him busy and content.

That was until he met him in one of his classes.

The new semester had just started and Reinhardt was eager to meet the new students that he was going to teach.

His own background in history and philosophy made it possible for him to teach the lower semesters in almost all of the basic classes that they had to take. Every time he was able to meet young, eager minds who were just waiting to be filled with information Reinhardt found himself reassured that teaching had been the right one decision. Giving these young generations everything they needed so they could mold and form their own ideas, walk their own paths, stand up for what they believe to be right…just like Reinhardt had.

The five years he spent with the military had shaped him into the man he was now and they were the reason he would always thrive for will always make him thrive for peace and equality even if he was not able to actively defend the many, many innocent bystanders anymore. Just a couple of weeks before his 23rd birthday a bomb had gone off right next to Reinhardt and had ended his active duty in the military. Some of the rubble hit Reinhardt directly in the head, causing him to black out and wake up several days later, already back home in Germany in one of the hospitals taking care of wounded soldiers.

The shock of having lost the sight in his left eye and the realization hitting him that his career in the military was over had pushed Reinhardt into a dark place.

To pull himself out of it, Reinhardt decided to go to university and study. Pulling himself out of the dark place he had let himself fall into, Reinhardt decided to study, honoring the lives of his comrades who had been lost in the same attack that he had survived. Having seen many different places on earth and talking to all different kinds of people, he chose to study history in Stuttgart, his hometown. Over the years his interest in philosophy grew. Having seen enough death and war to contemplate the reason of life, the reason why he was alive instead of his comrades, the choice was an easy one. After finishing his Bachelor thesis he continued studying, taking on the philosophy master study of his university and finishing it a couple of months after his 30th birthday.

Thanks to one of his professors, who also became his doctoral adviser later on, Reinhardt decided to take on his doctoral degree. It took him five years filled with research and writing and not much else, all his free time spent teaching in the bachelor studies of both history and philosophy. not much more than research, writing and the first teaching posts in the bachelor studies of both history and philosophy.

Now, being almost 38 years old, he found himself looking over to the faces of each and every student seated in front of him. Bright young eyes looking back at him with expectations.

“Welcome, students. My name is Reinhardt Wilhelm and I will be your professor for this class. We shall see each other quite a lot these first few months of your study so I hope we will all get along nicely.”

His introduction made the room break out in soft whispers and Reinhardt used the time until the small conversations settled once again to take in the room. He had gotten used to his students whispering and talking, and did not take it personally, knowing his presence is special, as his height and build easily set him apart from most other people. The scar on the left side of his face and the white of his blind eye were usually what people talked about the most.

Letting his gaze wander one last time over the rows of students it is suddenly caught by a young man he had not noticed before. His bright brown eyes caught Reinhardt’s blue one, holding his gaze briefly before blinking and turning towards the man next to him, replying to something he had just been asked. Reinhardt took in the sight of the young man, noticing that he was just as different from the rest of the class, his shaved head and darker skin making him stand out in the crowd.

And all of a sudden Reinhardt remembered hearing about him; the faculty had been informed that from this year on they would have a monk among the students, who had travelled all the way from Nepal and had gotten into their university thanks to a scholarship. Something Reinhardt did not judge or think about any longer, after all his own university time had mostly been paid by scholarships thanks to the military.

Shaking himself from his thoughts and finally moving his eyes away from the young man, he returned his attention to the entire class - after all, there was teaching to be done.

This short moment the two of them shared, holding each others gaze locked like that would be the beginning of the biggest change in both Reinhardt’s and in the life of the mysterious young man.

History of the Creed - Part 2: Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood

Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood; the game that is a mission packed sequel and is somehow better than its predecessor… at least that’s how I think… and many other people.

ASSASSIN’S CREED: BROTHERHOOD (The original PC release in Europe: March 18, 2011)

PLOT

We begin our story where the last game ended up. Ezio just beat up the Pope and received a message that doesn’t understand because it’s for Desmond. So he comes back to Mushroom Ki- I mean his villa to finally take a rest from the Templars. Shame it was a bad idea, since Rodrigo’s son, manchild that he is, decided to wreck our shit with his papal army and, to add more salt to injury, kill uncle Mario. I HAVE WASTED DOZENS OF HOURS AND TENS OF THOUSANDS OF FLORINS TO MAKE THIS TOWN NOT LOOK LIKE SHIT! CESARE!! YOU SPANISH FU-

Technical difficulties

What we basically have is a repeat of the previous game: Family member of Borgias ends up ruining Ezio’s life in some way and killing his family member(s) so it’s time to whoop some ass in the old fashioned revenge. I mean it’s not bad but it’s kinda weak to have a story that its foundations are basically the same as the AC2.

Good thing that the characters save the story. Ezio is still awesome as he was in the previous game. Almost all of the secondary protagonists are from AC2 and their characterization is extended in some way (I might also want to add up that even Rodrigo somewhat changed after our last meeting). The new characters (both protagonists and antagonists [asides from Cesare]) are on the same level as the secondary characters in the previous game: nothing great, nothing terrible, just fine. Main villain on the other hand… is basically a large ham. And I fucking love it. It’s the kind of ham that is enjoyable to watch. And the main reason why Cesare is so hilariously enjoyable to watch is his voice actor. Andreas Apergis fucking nails it! He already showed some talent in Assassin’s Creed 2 as Francesco de’ Pazzi and Checco Orsi but this game is when he showed of his talent. The fact that he ended up as a main villain in modern times and as your closest companion in the newest game proves this.

GAMEPLAY

So this game is basically the same as Assassin’s Creed 2 but with few changes. While the parkour is still the same as it was before, the combat got some new stuff. For instance there are kill streaks now. How does it work? After killing an enemy you can aim at the next target and attack them, or in other words, kill them in one shot kill. Also there is a kick. You can kick the enemy in the nuts to make them vulnerable for your attacks.

You thought combat was too easy in the previous game? Well, with this two new addons the enemies are now a complete joke. Even the toughest bastards asides from Borgia captains and bosses will die like a little bitch once you smash their balls off and/or kill streak them.

Speaking off enemies, there are two new types of them. There are Papal Guards who are the amalgamation of all previous enemies. In theory, they are very tough. In practice, kick ‘em in the nuts and they are done. There are also previously mentioned Borgia Captains who will either run away on your sight or fight you, which, in latter’s case, are immune to counters and kill streaks.

…

Oh yeah, you can also hold attack button to do a special attack based on what you have in your hand. That (mostly) useless shit exists.

There is also some upgrades to your arsenal. You can fire your hidden gun much faster. You can fire poison through the shootable darts (when you buy it out from Leonardo). ACTIVITIES

Well it wouldn’t be an Ubisoft game without a fuck ton of side stuff to do, so I’ll try to focus on new things.

While renovations are back, you won’t be able to renovate the building unless you kill the Borgia captain in the region and then burn previously protected Borgia tower. There are also banks spread around Rome so you don’t have to go to one place to withdraw your money like in the previous game.

I mentioned earlier about the apprentices. You can recruit them by helping civilians when they are in danger just like AC1. In return they will join the brotherhood and you can then send them to different cities to level them up to level 10.

Now you can do challenges for mercenaries, courtesans, thieves and assassins. By doing them you can unlock stuff like (respectively) 50% discount for hiring guild members, 2 new abilities per guild and (and this is the only bonus from assassins) a new, powerful weapon. Personally they are fine but some of them are really annoying and tedious (10 times five people kill streak anyone?!).

Beside challenges, there are side missions, like, a fuck ton of them. We have assignments from thieves and courtesans and assassination contracts that unlock as you go further through the main plot. We have Leonardo’s war machines to destroy, which after doing all of them you will be rewarded with parachutes. We have missions focusing on Templar agents AKA characters from multiplayer. We have Christina missions that unlock every 15% of synchronization up to 75%. There are also 2 DLC packs that are free for PC users: The Da Vinci Disappearance and (since 2017 to my surprise) Copernicus Conspiracy.

Did you liked collecting the flags from AC1? Well guess what? They are back. And this time you can buy expensive as fuck maps after collecting 25 of them.

And now… we came to the big one: Full Synchronization. Basically, most of the memories (either main ones or secondary ones) has additional, secondary objective like not doing this thing, killing someone with specific weapon, don’t kill anyone etc. Personally, I have a mixed feelings about it. On one hand, it’s cool to give the game some additional challenge. On the other hand, it feels like it restricts the players (and to be more precise, completionists) from playing how they want. Not to mention, some of these objective are very annoying/hard to get (anybody wants some no detection task?!). Don’t like them? Tough shit! We will have to withstand it for… let me see- 7 GAMES AT LEAST!

Also there are 5 hidden artifacts on modern times. Might want to point it out.

But overall, most of these activities were enjoyable to do. Then again, I think I’m some kind of masochist that enjoys doing that. At least I can say that most of them are worth the award.

THE GRAHPICS AND SOUND

The graphics might be where this game has the biggest advantage over AC2. While the buildings and the rest of environment feels like it’s on the same level as the last game, the character models doesn’t give you a feeling of being outdated anymore (at least in 50-70%): textures look sharper, facial animation looks less wonky/over the top, it all looks really nice… except there is one noticeable problem with some of the animations. Whenever you kill someone with your hidden blade, their forearms doesn’t animate, so it feels like you stabbed a dummy with the inflatable arms. Did some of the animators forgot to add the animation?

The sound effects keep the same level as the previous game AKA very good and the soundtrack is still top-notch. Jesper Kyd once again made a damn good job on the latter’s department. When you compare both soundtracks from AC2 and ACB you’ll notice that the latter one (most of the time) has more aggressive/unpleasant experience, which makes sense, you are in the lion’s den which is Italian Templars’ main base, that ain’t Florence/Venice, that’s home of our main villain. STABILITY

Good news – there were no crashing bugs, nor game breaking bugs.

Bad news – there were more framerate drops this time (especially when it was raining).

So still, the PC version is nicely optimized with a few hiccups. Something tells me I should say more about it but honestly, there is nothing else to add.

SUMMARY

Same foundations for the plot that makes it somewhat boring? Yes. Too much annoying stuff to do? Kind of. Being nothing more but a reheated, mission-packed sequel? Absolutely. But still, this game is the best out of all of Ezio’s trilogy and I would say that even if the boomer fan pointed a gun on my head. It basically takes AC2 but it adds so much stuff that makes the previous game pale in comparison.

Both of them felt satisfied with their choices, and so far—aside from the usual morning sickness and hormonal changes—everything was going fine.

And yet nearly every one who Tim had let in on his decision seemed to have their own, archaic opinion about it. In fact, his former boss Jack’s response—of a tidy final bonus and a crass encouragement to stuff his mate full of pups—had been the least offensive of the bunch, and that was saying something. Tim was sure that most of them had good intentions, but it didn’t stop the questions from becoming annoying after awhile, and he had started to lose patience with anyone who tried to bring up the fact that yes he was staying home to work, and eventually care for the newborns during the day. Especially after a particularly smarmy underling alpha had insinuated that Tim was stupid for leaving his omega “unprotected” at work instead of home where he belonged Jack’s last kindness to Tim had been firing that asshole on the spot.

Though he had the instinctive urges that all alphas did, Tim managed to rein them in and was pretty confident Rhys didn’t need protecting. However, that didn’t mean that Rhys had escaped similar scrutiny to what Tim had been subjected to. Tim tried to put the opinions of the naysayers out of his mind as he set about choosing furniture for the freshly painted nursery on a warm spring morning.

Sleeping in had become something of a myth to Tim since working for Hyperion, and now that he was free to choose his own schedule the idea of napping until ten o’clock was absolutely divine. He had awaken to the sunlight filtering through his room, gently kissing his body with warmth as he had stretched his arms with a yawn.

A fresh cup of tea and some fresh fruit and turkey bacon later, and Tim was seated at the small dining room table, looking through cribs and blankets and rocking chairs on his tablet.

It still shook him to the core with pride that he and Rhys were having twins—something that had been completely out of the blue, with nary a history of multiple births on either side of their family. It certainly wasn’t unheard of for an omega to have more than one child without a genetic predisposition, but it was certainly rarer. Tim smirked at himself in the quiet of the morning, pledging to enjoy it while he could before these daylight hours were filled with emergency feedings and diaper changing.

He bookmarked a couple of soft blankets and pretty, dark-wood cribs for Rhys’ to look at and give final approval on later. Ever since Tim had bought gallons of goldenrod paint instead of royal yellow, he’d learned that Rhys’ input was needed on absolutely everything baby related.

The rest of the day was spent checking up on some freelance projects, followed by grocery shopping and a bit of light cleaning before Tim decided he wanted to surprise his omega with a special treat. Pulling up Rhys’ favorite recipe for iced strawberry-lemon cake, Tim quickly set to work, putting on a nice soothing music playlist as he bounced about the kitchen.

Two tins of cake were baking in the oven when Tim heard the click of the front door open, followed by Rhys’ tired, yet undeniably relieved greeting.

“Heyyy, sweetie,” Tim cooed as he approached his omega, helping Rhys’ out of his light jacket and hanging it on the coat rack. Rhys sent him a soft smile as Tim welcomed him into his arms, holding him close. Rhys let out a content sigh as he nuzzled upwards into Tim’s jaw, hands supporting his swollen belly as he leaned into his alpha.

It sounds like Mona is saying that all these are mere delusions masking the dangers of being around criminals. Makes me think of the terrible first chapters. I still think the story's not that good despite improvements along the way.

Regarding Jason Shaw, I get that it's tempting for me to defend him because he goes after criminals, but I don't see that as a reason to praise him. I could say my feelings are complicated. As much as I understand that he has some sort of moral compass for going after criminals, I think he's addicted to freedom and power that he has lost sight of what his job ultimately means. Not to mention that it would've been better to hand those criminals to justice instead, and him threatening the MC comes across as hypocritical.

On another note, does anyone think Toby is rather suspicious? He seemed to be at the right place at the right time (telling the MC of Colt's operation, outside of the MPC garage when it burned down), and there were moments when he raised red flags that foreshadow something sinister (fixing MC's car, talking to someone during the party at a junk yard). I stumbled upon this theory on Instagram, and I wanted to know if anyone seems sold on it. If it's true Toby's up to no good, what if he was playing the Mercy Park Crew and Brotherhood all along?

Honestly, I’m more excited for Nightbound than Wishful Thinking, mainly because I generally prefer fantasy and supernatural over romantic comedy. In Wishful Thinking’s case, I feel like it should’ve involved a crime-fighting element that makes it similar to Hero. After all, both stories are set in Northbridge. Thinking of it reminds me of Shazam, which I thoroughly enjoyed for its comedic style and serious moments that work well in the story. As for Nightbound, I may be more excited for it, but I’m still fairly wary that it will focus too much on a single male love interest that the entire story revolves around him. This has been going on for a lot of stories, so if the romance aspect is kept to a minimum like The Heist: Monaco, that would be a preferable while highly doubtful scenario.
