Un coeur en demi-teinte (part 1?) Yandere x F!reader
Tumblr media
Yandere Priest character and art by @meo-eiru. I love that man despite any logic or survival instincts.
There will probably be 2 or 3 chapters total (maybe idk), this chapter is more to set the scene.
Warning : none... For now
Tumblr media
Father Micah walks peacefully among the stalls of the market, politely smiling at the passersby greeting him with respect, sometimes even bowing their heads to him a bit.
“Hello, Father.” They say.
Micah pursues his groceries, occasionally caressing the heads of some children running to him in awe, following him around like a celebrity.
He is a celebrity here, and Micah is deeply respected in this town. People come to him for his blessing, for his forgiveness, and advice. They come lost and destroyed but after a discussion with him, they leave the monastery rebuilt, new, serene...
People look up to him each time they are in trouble and follows blindly his opinion.
People were skeptical about this new technology called Phone Marty and some protested the installation of one in the town hall, descending the streets with signs, screaming that this object would bring decadence and destruction to the town. Micah intervened in favor of it and even agreed to put on a show to call the Bishop of the region in front of a public with a smile. He had a small speech arguing that this was the future and the town should follow, that he saw no ill in this piece of technology and the townies had nothing to fear about it.
Micah was not in the least surprised of the townies reaction. He chosed this city for a very specific reason after all.
The city is isolated between steep mountains and the first train station of the town is very difficult to access and was built 80 years later compared to the rest of the country. This city is like a bubble, blocked in the past and Micah saw an opportunity here.
To rule unquestioned on a small bastion.
With careful planning and politics, the young Priest carved himself a place in the town and gained immense popularity and influence over the population ruled by old rigid traditions.
Micah calculates his move carefully, even going against the Church’s wishes sometimes to base his power over the entire town. He fought for mandatory vaccines for children, getting vaccinated himself as an example, and helped eradicate the smallpox from the town that took so many lives before.
He fought for a mixed school for adolescents, choosing to trust them while their parents thought it would pervert an entire generation and the nation was distrustful of the process. He held the class in an isolated room of the Monastery, welcoming for free any young who trusted the project, allowing the young girls and boys to meet organically while the town slowly lost population due to low birth rates.
His project was fruitful.
A larger range of young earned their diploma and married soon after with their school sweetheart, bringing new babies to the town. The Mayor who did not believe in his idea and fought against him had to come personally to present his excuses and ask to work together for the betterment of the town
Micah accepted as he won what he wanted.
Power.
Power to reign supreme over the town.
Any new decision needed the young Father’s approval, any new Mayor needed his support to win. Micah decided what to do with the town, whom to accept and whom to ban from the town, which new law to install, and which one to repel.
Micah could model the town at his will, making it his personal kingdom and Eden’s garden for his personal enjoyment. People believed any word he said and he earned that power. People followed his lead like a dog obeys its Master and he used this power wisely.
Micah had everything to be happy.
Or what he thought he needed to have to be happy...
But as the years passed by, a growing hole appeared in his soul, devouring any sentiment he had in his heart. He felt dissatisfied and like something crucial was missing in his life.
Until recently, that is!
Until...
“Father Micah?” A young woman’s voice pulls him out of his reverie before a stall.
“Yes young Lady?” He politely smiles at her.
She blushes hard and searches for something in her pockets, taking out an envelope that she hands him, the face bright red. He considers it for a second before taking it gently. The envelope smells like rose and lavender.
Perfume cost a fortune in this day and age but this young woman still used it on her letter for him.
She bows to him, still red, and runs away to a circle of other young women waiting for her in the distance. Surely her group of friends.
Micah observes the envelope of a delicate pinkish color.
A love letter.
Another one.
He turns away from the girls and crumples it in his fist, throwing it away as he leaves the Market for the Monastery.
He has no use for this love or any love that came before it.
Micah crosses the town until a paper pinned on a pole catches his attention. On it, the portrait of a young woman he knows very well is drawn, offering a large sum of money for her capture.
“We still did not catch that witch?” Someone asks behind him.
He turns to an old man, taking support on a cane to stand still.
“The sheriff did not warn me that they did at least.” Micah explains, taking the paper in his delicate hand “So young... Who could have known such a monster was acting among us...”
“That angel of death! I hope she burns in hell!” The old man spit on the ground.
“This is a terrible thought, sir. Such desire could bring you down with her, be careful.” He warns.
The old man sniffs, but ultimately nods.
“Did we find new victims?” He asks.
“I cannot reveal such information, sir. The Sheriff trusts me with it.” Micah retorts gently
“You are the light of this town, Father. You should not let us in the dark like that, if even you start having secrets we are done for. Surely you know something!” The old man begs.
Micah pretends to look around them before leaning to the ear of the old man and starts whipsering.
“We think a recent death in the Monastery hospital might be due to poisoning...”
“Hell! She found her way in the Monastery hopsital?! This witch has no limits! She deconsecrates the church and the souls of the victims!” The old man rages.
Micah presses his finger on his lips.
“Of course, this info is strictly confidential for the investigation. I would not want it to spread in the town and cause a mass hysteria, can I trust you?”
The old man’s eyes start glimming mischeviously.
“I will be as mute as a tomb, Father.”
“Good. Go now, I must prepare for the Mass tonight.” Micah politely enjoins.
“Of course father. Another mass to pray for her victims’ souls?”
“I will hold as much as it is needed. Until we capture and judge her for her deed.”
The old man nod and walk away.
Micah smiles to himself.
The old man lost three grandkids to that woman and his hate for her is deep.
His hate for you...
Of course, he is going to spread the word to the town, enraging the spirits even more, starting a new witch hunt in the Mountains and the forests nearby.
Micah tears your poster off the pole and walks to the Monastery. He crosses it to gain his apartment, a small house in the garden of the Monastery, isolated and peaceful.
His castle in his kingdom.
He opens the door and locks it behind him immediately.
“Rosebud? (Y/n)? I am home.” He announces.
You open a door and come running into his arms, pressing you against his taller frame.
“Father Micah...!”
“Did anyone see you?” He investigate.
“No! I remained hidden like you ordered me to.”
“Good. You must not leave this house under any pretenses, you are not safe outside.”
You part from him, sighing.
“I know Father, I know... Did you talk to the Sheriff?”
“He is busy with a new case, unfortunately.” He explains, putting down the groceries on the table, “I will plead your case do not worry. But the spirits are boiling and vengeful, a new victim has been discovered.”
“I did not kill them! I did not kill anyone! You know that, Micah, don’t you?!” You beg with eyes wet with tears threatening to spill.
“I believe you, (Y/n). I do. But you know how the town is, you know how they think. It will be hard to clear your name of any suspicion.”
You lower your head defeated.
“I see...”
“I am with you in this trial, my child.” He takes your shoulder in his hand to squeeze it gently, a reassuring smile on his face.
“I know... Thank God at least you believe me... If you did not, I do not know what I would have done...” You sob, “I would be lost forever...”
“Dry your tears, my darling. I am working on it, do not fret.” He promises, pulling you to him to die his nose in your hair.
You smell delectable, just as he loves.
You press your feminine curves against his body in a desperate search for support, wiping a tear away.
Micah smiles to himself again.
Poor little lamb... So lost and fragile.
So adorable
So intoxicating
His darling
His rosebud.
His...
He cups your cheek to make you look at him.
“Come on now. I must prepare for the evening Mass, do you need anything?”
“Will you be gone for long?” You grab his hand desperately.
“No. 2 hours at most, as always.”
“Come back to me soon...” You beg, “I feel so alone in here.”
“I promise, my darling.” And he kisses your forehead tenderly.
Not your lips.
Not yet...
This is for later
For when you will totally be at his mercy, under his power.
Then he will break his vows and delight himself of your soul and body.
He will eat you up
Devour you until you beg for his mercy
And maybe he will stop
Or maybe not
He is a capricious man and he is demanding.
You did not know what kind of hell you entered when you got down that wagon train, when you entered that secluded town as an outsider...
But you are Micah’s hell
His obsession
His rosebud
His darling
He will have you, wether you like it or not
After all he reigns supreme.
And unquestioned.

Now that I've added the En transcript for the last post
Kr/En Comparison time!
Happiness is so difficult. Even though it's very close, we often miss it without realizing it.
What is Happiness…?
Happiness is like a butterfly, I try to catch it but it escapes from my hand.
The meanings are so different and lost. Damn.
A cookie with such an empty heart, even though countless other cookies' hearts are pointed at it~! But don't worry~ Your empty heart can be filled with love too!
Countless Cookies love and care for you, and yet… your heart is void and empty!
But don't worry, heh! Even a heart like yours is capable of finding love!
Kr line is cute because the character sticks to his cupid arrow theme.
Hollyberry keeps on running away from reality. Why are you making her find love?
"Filled with love" could mean to try and over flow it... Hmm.
Welcome to our Sugar Paradise. I am the one who cultivates this paradise that spreads happiness.
Welcome, welcome to the Garden of Delights!
I am the Bringer of Happiness to this paradise of Joy~
Paradise is more fitting name for a place "opposite of reality", but "Garden of Delights" also reference "Garden of Eden".
I think that Eternal Sugar's (uncorrupted) title in Korean is "Cultivator of Happiness". It's not exactly mentioned yet so we'll have to learn more from the Korean story version as soon as it's release.
It's been a long time since I've received such kind and considerate treatment… Thanks to this, the dough powder doesn't fall off anymore…
Wow… They're tending to us with so much love and care…
Ahh, I feel so much better…!
Straight up disappointing.
Forget about the complicated things that keep you from filling your mind while you are here. How about thinking only of you? Just me… Only you.
Please try to forget your worries and troubles, and for the first time in a long time, allow yourself a moment to rest. Just for you alone~
Just for me…?
Just for you.
"Only you" is more homoerotic than "Just for you"
Kr Suga isn't even telling her to try. Straight up forget everything girl!
"While you are here" and then the next lines are a warning about how they'd never leave.
"Hearken you who have stepped foot on this land, do not look back and get out of this land Before the devil comes in the sweetest form." What does the sweetest look mean?
"O trespasser, heed these words. Turn back at once, and go no further."
"Before the demon arrives, cloaked in its sweetest guise."
"…It's sweetest guise" …What could that possibly mean?
Not so different in context, but Korean is more simple.

Another Eden's "Gender Unknown" 5★s: Ciel and Clarte
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ciel and Clarte are the only 5★ characters in the game listed as having 'unknown' gender, despite both being referred to with he/him in English.
Ciel
Ciel's quests involve many scenes where he is assumed to be a girl. Even Aldo thinks that he's a girl until the first time he says that he's a boy. Some of Himmel!Ciel's fans argue about what gender he is.
Ciel does not express much discomfort with being misgendered. Both Ciel and Himmel!Ciel say that they don't care about the concept of gender. Ciel is only once upset by someone refusing to believe that he is a boy after saying so.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ciel's event quest, Foreign Skies and the Ship to Freedom, has themes of the oppression queer people face. A vague description to avoid spoilers would be that Ciel's parents and older sisters grew up in a highly oppressive environment that punished deviance from the norm, and wanted Ciel to live without bearing that past. His family and family friends are described as "eccentric" by the narration, and "loonies" by the antagonists.
I interpret Ciel's 'unknown' gender as representing how crossdressing can be a genderqueer act, and that while he identifies as a boy he isn't upset by being assumed to be a girl, implying he is not attached to being cis or binary.
Clarte
Clarte's ENG voice actor is a man, and their JP voice actor is a woman. While the actress is said to be 'typecasted as young men', her performance for Clarte is sometimes ambiguous.
Clarte's TVTropes.org entry for 'ambiguous gender' says that some of their sprite's stock animation rigs are ones used mostly or only otherwise by female characters. I don't have any recorded, but I can remember seeing them have animations used more often by women than men.
The strongest lore about Clarte being nonbinary are heavy spoilers for the final chapter of Mythos: Song of Sword and Wings of Lost Paradise. I will stay as vague as possible but it will be below the cut nonetheless.
The English localization uses he/him for Clarte, and I'm a bit disappointed that this is the case as their lore would make they/them most accurate.
However, I don't believe it to be malicious. I'm assuming that as the story released in parts, the people translating/writing the early story didn't know Clarte was explicitly implied to be nonbinary by their lore. There's a line in Ciel's event story where his mother refers to him with she/her. Localization teams being split from the writers and/or being outsourced leads to mistakes. Another Eden also just has poor proofreading with occasional typos and spelling errors being normal.
The fun interpretation of this would be that Clarte is nonbinary and transmasculine, choosing to go by he/him despite having no assigned gender. Being referred to with he/him doesn't mean that the EN localization suddenly decided that Clarte is a cis male, just that they go by he/him. I personally am going to use they/him.
Most basically, Clarte was "made" for a purpose. The purpose was not related to emulating humans, so they very likely have no genitals at all, as there would be no reason for them to have any. Thus, they have no sex, and no way to be cis.
TVTropes says that NPCs from where Clarte is from express "confusion over what Clarte's gender is", and that they were supposed to "be neither male nor female".
I have found the NPC that says Clarte has no gender, and while it's worded differently from the TVTropes, it says the same thing: that Clarte has no gender.

PARASSYTE : THE GREY // KDRAMA DİZİ YORUMU
UYARI : Yazılar genel olarak spoiler içerebilir. İçermeyedebilir.
İmdb puanı: 7,3 Benim puanım: 8
Drama: Parasyte: The Grey
Hangul: 기생수: 더 그레이
Director: Yeon Sang-Ho
Writer: Hitoshi Iwaaki (manga), Yeon Sang-Ho
Episodes: 6
Date: 2024
Cast: Jeon So-Nee, Koo Kyo-Hwan, Lee Jung-Hyun, Kwon Hae-Hyo, Yoon Hyun-Gil, Kim In-Kwon
Son olarak, Parasyte: The Grey, dünya çapında tanınan Japon mangası Parasyte’tan esinlenmiş olsada, kendi kimliğini oluşturmayı başarıyor.
While watching this drama, I found myself wrapped in a mixture of curiosity and unease. It’s a deeply impactful production—both in how it builds a dystopian atmosphere and how it confronts the darkest aspects of human nature. The show gives off a chilling sense of foresight by reflecting the dead-end roads of current technological and scientific progress.
As the title suggests, the story revolves around a war against parasites that invade the human body and take control of the mind. One of our main characters, Jeong Su-in (Jeon So-nee), is introduced as a cool-headed scientist who tries to maintain a rational perspective. What makes her so compelling is her ability to approach terrifying events with logic rather than pure panic. But even her reason is pushed to its limits as the parasite outbreak intensifies and the threat of losing humanity looms closer.
On the other side, we have Seol Kang-woo (Koo Kyo-hwan), a character driven more by emotion and rebellion. His approach highlights that this isn't just scientific chaos—it’s also a profound moral reckoning. His rawness contrasts sharply with Su-in’s analytical mindset, which brings a compelling duality to the narrative.
The atmosphere of the show is outstanding. The cinematography paints a bleak and hopeless future while allowing the audience to truly feel the collapse of the world. Set design and production serve the dark storyline perfectly. The scenes where parasites reveal themselves and take over human bodies are especially bone-chilling.
However, the slow pacing might be a downside for some viewers. The narrative can feel a bit stagnant at times, but this slowness actually gives space to fully grasp the characters’ struggles and the ethical dilemmas humanity faces. That’s where the real strength of the show lies—it conveys fear, horror, and helplessness not just through visuals, but with profound emotional impact.
As for the performances, both Jeon So-nee and Koo Kyo-hwan were striking. Jeon So-nee brings a depth and humanity to Jeong Su-in that turns her from a mere scientist into someone the viewer can empathize with. Koo Kyo-hwan adds vitality and complexity to Kang-woo, and their chemistry is one of the key factors that balances out the show’s sometimes slow rhythm.
Finally, Parasyte: The Grey—although inspired by the globally known Japanese manga Parasyte—successfully builds its own identity. Adaptations of manga often face criticism for failing to capture the magic of the original work. But this series manages to stay faithful to its source while also crafting an original narrative.
Overall, Parasyte: The Grey is a strong recommendation for fans of science fiction and horror. It may not appeal to everyone, but for those who enjoy dystopian storytelling and layered moral questions, it’s definitely a must-watch.

Altered - Angels and Devils 3
Author: Akira
Characters: Hiyori, Nagisa, Tsumugi, Rei, Shu, Natsume
Translator: Mika Enstars
EN Proofer: PitXRoxas
"If the angel and devil are chatting amicabLY, that'd just be a boRE, wouldn't iT?"
Season: Winter
Location: SS Finals Live Stage
⚠️ This is an import from a unproofed Twitter Livetweet!
Tumblr media
Hiyori: Yaho yaho! ♪ Are you doing well, Five Eccentrics~?
As you can see, somehow, someone like me is in low spirits! What horrible weather!
Nagisa: …Fufu. It's nice to see Five Eccentrics appear to be happily smiling and getting along, as usual.
…No, I used the wrong expression. I'm envious, rather.
Tumblr media
Tsumugi: It's hell over here comparatively, isn't it…
It's like a bed of needles. Having been the leader of fine, it sure was like that every day… It's nostalgic to remember.
Rei: Boisterous since the moment you step on out huh? I'd say you're as much so as us Five Eccentrics.
Well, not in terms of trouble-making, you're not.
Tumblr media
Tsumugi: Ah, Rei-kun, please help me! The two from Eden who were originally in fine, they may appear peaceful, but they're always in this horrid mood~!
Hiyori: What reason is there to even be in a good mood?
I had no intention of being in the position of playing the role of an angel who exterminates the bad guys again.
Nagisa: …Perhaps this is once again our destiny.
…Fufu, compared to Hiyori-kun, I'm having a relatively good time.
…I'd overheard Sakuma-kun's words earlier, and I wanted to express my shared feelings accordingly.
Hiyori: To laugh at the fate of the story of the Five Eccentrics and us fine?
Tsumugi: That's the set-up.
Hiyori: But, honestly… I don't feel comfortable, it's like stepping into dirt with your bare feet, where you don't want anyone to touch you.
Shu: Heheh. Afraid, are you?
Hiyori: Excuse me?
Tumblr media
Shu: What a pity, isn't it. The past up until now where you triumphed over us had become historical fact. You had found peace in winning and then running away, with that flimsy glory of yours.
But now that you're on a big stage with nowhere to run, you'll have to face us, and be forcefully made aware of just how small and weak you all are.
If you don't like that, if that makes you afraid, then run away if you insist. Losing dogs are losing dogs until the very end, hole yourself up in that private heaven of yours with your bones in your mouths.
Hiyori: Ahaha, check this out, Nagisa-kun! The losing dogs are calling US losing dogs! Isn't that interesting?
Natsume: Shu-niisan, you've gotten better at provoking otheRS.
Tsumugi: He's had a lot of run-ins with society, hasn't he?
Natsume: You speak as if you weren't one of thoSE…
Shu-niisan would piss others off naturally in the paST, much like yOU, Senpai, but now I can tell he's provoking on purpoSE.
I suppose being defeated and humiliated so many timES, Shu-niisan has polished himself up after days of biding his tiME.
AlthouGH, that's the case for all of us Five Eccentrics. While you have been able to live peacefully on the side of the victOR, we've had to endure a great number of troublES.
Tumblr media
Tsumugi: But I'm pretty sure I've shared the same environment as you, as a member of Switch…
Natsume-kun, why do you refuse to acknowledge that, and instead act like a stranger to it? It's lonely, Natsume-kun.
Natsume: If we act like we get along weLL, we'll confuse the audienCE, you knOW.
Tsumugi: You have a point… Even though the story has to be set to be the culmination between villains and the allies of justice with a showdown.
Natsume: YuP. It is meticulousLY, excessiveLY, and overtly staged to be that wAY.
If the angel and devil are chatting amicabLY, that'd just be a boRE, wouldn't iT?
Tsumugi: I'm not much of a fan of that composition, though.
Not a single one of us now believes we were of pure righteousness, and you guys as evil to be destroyed.
And here we are being forced into such roles. I don't feel comfortable.
Natsume: HaH, you crack me uP. I'm sure if it were during the war two years aGO, you’d want to play that very roLE—You guys of fine.
Tsumugi: Well, I can't argue with you on that…
It's true that we donned masks as emissaries of justice and vanquished you, whom we named to be evil. We acted accordingly to a plot spun by someone else.
Natsume: It's the fact you obscure who it is by saying “someone else” there that bothers mE, Senpai.
Tsumugi: Does it~? And I'm even trying to behave in a way that makes others as little uncomfortable as possible…
Natsume: You're a natural at saying things in a way that makes others uncomfortable. That bad habit of yours shows every now and thEN, Senpai.
AnywaYS, needless to sAY, that mastermind in question behind the conflict of the past was who we call the “Emperor”—Tenshouin Eichi.
At least everyone here is aware of iT.
Tsumugi: You should be calling him Tenshouin-“senpai”. Since he's older than you.
Natsume: If that's the only thing that concerns you heRE, people will think you're a psychopaTH. Your priorities are ALWAYS way out of ordER.
Tsumugi: But it's important. It doesn't bother me, but when I think about your future…
Natsume: MhM. I know you mean no maliCE, Senpai.
But that's why it's all so puzzliNG. We were just discussing this earliER, but who on earth is behind all of thIS?
This fuss called “OO” that's going on right now is based off a proposal that I once put my all into creatiNG.
Tsumugi: Ah, is that so?
Natsume: YeaH. You probably had no idEA, Senpai, since you didn't read the original proposal before you burnt in that bonfiRE.
Tsumugi: Ah, from back then… But if that's the case, then that's strange.
The plan should have been burnt to ashes, shouldn't it?
Nobody should've been able to know what it was about, essentially. If OO appears to be a recreation of it, how could they have gotten that information?
I don't think it could have been a coincidence. Hm~, what a mystery…

Human Error series by teeth_eater - Alright, first up we have the Human Error series! This series uses the "humans are space orcs trope" in that Tommy is a human stowaway on an alien ship run by SBI. Hijinks and angst ensue.
Questions for Ada series by SilverWing15 - Aka that one fic series in which Tommy is a werewolf who so happens to go through the foster system. He's placed into the SBI household and tries to keep his werewolf stuff a secret.
when the wolf comes home by ThatWeirdGuyInTheBushes - Clingy Duo oneshot of after the New L'Manberg explosion.
Dollhouse by Lacy_Star - Holy frick Cam can I not recommend this one enough. It's fic in which the premise is that Dream locks everyone inside Pandora's Vault so they can all be one big happy family again. It's absolutely chilling and lowkey horrifying in which some of the characters behave towards their new predicament. 10/10, leaves a pit of dread in your chest afterwards.
that's it, it's split (it won't recover) by Jk_Kat - Tommy is revived and gets addicted to being dead after seeing all the new changes to the server. Angsty but with a happy ending, I love it.
keep you warm and safe by always_an_anxious_mess - Bench Trio fluff + WingInnit = Very fluffy preening scene.
dissonance by shrugofgod - Tubbo centric fic that can kinda act as a character study. Deals with him processing his trauma.
Adagio by eneli - Another one I absolutely adore. I enjoy most works by eneli in general, they're an amazing writer. But anyways, this fic is a modern setting AU with coming of age Tommy and his new friend Tubbo. Focuses a lot on Tommy's relationship with SBI and Tubbo. I must warn you however, if you choose to read the rest of eneli's fics you'll notice a certain trend with them (not bad, just ohohohoho).
As for another work by this author I recommend TommyInnit's unbeatable method of avoiding sudden death. Vigilante Tommy crack fic. So much crack. So much humor. Made me cackle several times while reading.
Saturday's at the Diner by justsummr - SBI foster family focused fic (surprise surprise, you can tell what fics I highly enjoy). Wilbur, Techno and Phil own a family diner in which Tommy starts visiting pretty often. Very heartwarming fic, I adore it.
where did my courage go (I think I left it under the rubble) by violet_sunflowers - Ah the vigilante fics I read. This is one of them and focuses on Vigilante Bench Trio + Superhero SBI (Phil, Wilbur and Techno).
Saturday series by ScumbagSimon - Another vigilante fic series. The first book focuses on Vigilante Tommy and Bench Trio, in which Tommy gets into encounters with Villain Dream Team and Superhero SBI. The second book is more Ranboo centric with Villain BBH + Crimson.
Bee & Boo & Michael (and sometimes Tommy) series by Doodlebloo - Ah the series which I go to ignore canon. Heavily Bee Duo centric with lots of fluff and a bit of angst.
Casualty and Consequence by skyestar7703 - The SMP is a hellhole Tommy, Tubbo, Ranboo and Purpled are the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. Literally.
On another note, definitely check out the Living in the Circular series by the same author. This one has certain DSMP characters going through multiple "loops" and basically serves as a fic in which they go into several pieces of media and AUs possible.
east of eden series by subwaywalls - Holy shit Cam. This is another one I can't recommend enough, the description is beautiful and this series left me with a bittersweet numb ache after reading it. One of those fics that made me cry. It's an SBI foster family fic in which Phil is the equivalent to a biblically accurate angel, and Wilbur, Techno, Tommy and Tubbo are different magical beings. 10/10, I love to reread it.
ad astra per aspera series by cacowhistle - From difficulty to the stars. It's a canon divergent fic set near exile time in which Bedrock Bros heal together and more characters join in on healing. I very much adore this series.
I was a kid in the village, doing alright, then I became a prince overnight by sircantus - Phil's a king, Techno and Wilbur are princes and Tommy's an orphan who gets adopted into the royal family. Hijinks galore.
Another fic by the same author I like is Change fate by being aggressively kind. Phil's an avian in a world where avians are rare, Techno, Wilbur and Tommy are the Minecraft equivalents of the Antichrist. Cue Phil having another way to stop the apocalypse without murdering the children.
Honeycomb by khaoticwoes - Tangled AU in which Tubbo is Rapunzel, Tommy is Flynn and Dream is Gothel. Tommy's just accidentally caused crime towards King Phil, and we also have Sapnap and George as criminal brothers to Tommy.
Stream Labs LIVE by A_Non_ymousWriter - AU in which there's an ARG surrounding genius teen scientist Tubbo that is very highly produced. Turns out this ARG isn't an ARG an everything is happening in a fantasy world parallel to the modern one. I recommend other works from this author as well.
We'll (Ender)walk this long road together by Ravivkit - Bee Duo centric fic in which Enderwalk Ranboo cares about Tubbo very much, but Ranboo is unaware and afraid of it. Cue lots of fluff but also some angst.
Those are my fic recs for now! I hope you enjoy them!

Dean Winchester - Killing Boys
“Since he died..” Dean starts hesitantly, “I’ve been having nightmares, as you heard. But also these.. these kinds of flashes and memories coming back. Stuff I had no idea about but stuff which fucked me up, you know?” The words are still getting stuck in his throat and he has to force them out to keep going. “It’s not just some daddy issues about growing up hunting and seeking revenge, and learning how to build a gun before you know how to count. There’s.. more. And Sam can’t get it. And it’s okay, I’m not gonna tell him - who knows if he’ll even believe me. But there’s a distance between us now. I want a distance to be there. Because I can’t keep up, I can’t breathe if he’s too close to me.” “So you’re hunting… him ?” “Yeh.” “To breathe?” “To be free.”

TO THE GARDENS OF LOVE
she tells me: our deadbeat fathers - gods or lucifers when they thread their so-called destiny made us creatures of greed and feathers - not worth mortality
she learned poetry from trees and beating hearts a fruit from a soil which would nurture nothing in Heaven alas, she sighs, a few allegories never killed anyone let alone an angel
it's a tragedy alike those of the Greeks we only move and forget, never forgive and repeat one can not be alive in the infinite
I tell her: devoted hustlers - gods or reapers crushed me into black ashes one could only hold through a stolen skin, a slough that would never stick
those roots that you crave, they threw me away with their trash from a soul to empty bones to cut on a rack seeds for an Eden of apathy labeled some demon witch something - never someone
it's a romance, don't your Greeks have these? we may live and forget, I won't pack any regret I've only been alive with you to cherish
I plead: can't you see? we're creatures of lust and fire! free from faithless submission!
what could Thanatos give that we can't create in the space between the stars and the salt of the seas flowing into your grace I found humanity and we got enough love to spend eternity

you don't understand the roadhouse episode is about dean starting to flirt with jo but it's not really succeeding not bc of being turned down but BC he's not feeling it, he can't keep faking. literally starts and can't go through. he's tired. and yeh it could be simple legit "he's not feeling it bc he's grieving" BUT THEN you have Ash.
it's an episode about dean not wanting, turning down, a woman. all while actually flirting with a man. his dad is dead and his posture is falling down. he's going for it he digs the haircut. they drink from the same bottle.
it's about dean rejecting jo and his comphet and embracing openly/in front of sam his homosexuality in this essay i will-

Series: The Heir, The Reader, and Clay
Title: Run It Again Fandom: Assassin’s Creed Characters: Desmond Miles, Malik al-Sayf, Altair ibn La’Ahad, Maria Thorpe Pairings: Altair/Malik Chapters: I | II | III | IV | V | VI | VII | VIII | IX | X | XI | XII | XIII | XIV | XV | XVI | XVII | XVIII Enabler: @kingbob2-0 Beta: @claire-the-queer-dragon Tags: Time Travel, Dad Malik, Desmond Raised By Others, De-Aged Desmond, Dad Altair, The Dad-ening, Maria Is Precious Too Summary: They hadn’t found an answer yet, and Layla was impatient despite the promise of the Grey being timeless in its nature. She didn’t want to have to search for an answer that might never come–so she made another suggestion. Why not just change it? Why not counter the Isu influence on the Pieces of Eden where it counted, and counter what Juno inevitably did to the Eye in the Grand Temple?
It was all the push that Desmond needed to let himself be just that bit more selfish. So selfish he chose to be, and there was one moment where the Isu’s hold on the Pieces of Eden had a profound effect–the Levantine Brotherhood. Altair Ibn La’Ahad. Al Mualim. There was just one problem–Desmond was eight, a child, and didn’t remember dying.
Layla at least had his back, even if she was just a bit fashionably late.
Malik paced in the Bureau for lack of anything better to do. He'd gone from his Novices--each were resting after the eventful day yesterday; the twins curled into one another with Jamal between them; Jawad shuffled between the twins and his duties to the Bureau as Malik's apprentice; Hakim and Alem worked on their stock of medicines while Malik's own remaining apprentices practiced in the yard under Kadar's keen eye. It left Malik with little to do, especially when he finally turned his attention toward Desmond and Altair only to find them gone. A part of Malik felt cold when they were not at the table that clearly covered in Desmond's workbooks, but the rest of Malik knew that Altair would not have taken the boy and left.
It wasn't to say that Malik was not furious--he very, very much was. Desmond was not in the Bureau, the city was no doubt still on high alert after yesterday's assassination, and Altair was missing too with two injuries at least. A quick check of the rest of the house revealed to Malik that Altair had not even left in his Assassin whites--for a full minute when he found them left in the crumpled pile Altair had dropped them in the day before Malik stared at the cloth, held tight in his hand. They would need to be cleaned and mended, Malik noted with a critical eye, and carefully spent the next thirty minutes gathering up Altair's discarded robes and set them to soak out the blood that stained the cloth.
The only thing of Altair's not present was his sword; the rest of his weapons and accoutrements including his hidden blade were all accounted for in the Bureau--which meant that Altair decided to leave not only dressed down, but with one blade on his person when Altair was normally a walking arsenal. It meant that Altair had left quickly--that speed was more important than caution and sense. It meant that Desmond had already been missing when Malik turned his focus on the Novices and Malik burned with the thought. How could he not have known Desmond was gone? He should have checked on the boy first--he, who claimed Desmond as son, should have checked on his son before his Novices. The Novices were all trained, knew patience because patience had been drilled into them for years.
Desmond--Malik bit his lip and ducked his head from behind the counter as he clenched his fist. No, he was providing Desmond a disservice to claim the boy was not trained, not well aware of the value of patience. Desmond knew such things all too well--but Desmond was also young enough and felt safe enough to ignore the trained patience--to simply act when he noticed something instead of being more methodical and waiting--and if he had dared to look around with his gift then--then Malik could see Desmond leave, silent and like a ghost in the way that Desmond moved. Malik sucked in a shuddered breath, settled himself onto his stool behind the counter, and buried his face into his hand.
What was he doing? Malik did not know what he thought he was doing anymore. He'd kept far too many Novices under his care; juggling them was tricky enough and he had to rely on Kadar far more than he knew he should. Kadar who was an Assassin in all the ways except for ceremony, whom he held back out of fear--Kadar who was skilled enough, clever enough, to do the job Malik pushed on his shoulders and more--but he shouldn't have to. Malik should handle his own Novices himself; it was why they were his.
Then there was Desmond; he loved the boy dearly, cared for him and not just because Desmond had arrived at the opportune moment and enabled Malik to save his little brother. No, Desmond endeared himself in quick succession to Malik, nestled himself close to Malik's heart. Malik always knew he was a bleeding edge of a person, who cared too much and too strongly to make an actual decent Assassin. He heard all that Desmond had to say, and all that Desmond didn't, and he attached himself tightly to the boy--perhaps too strongly, sometimes, perhaps too quickly. Did Malik care? Not really, Desmond was his; his precious child, his chosen son--and Malik would have that no other way except--except he already had a fair bit of work on his shoulders with his Novices and the contacts in the city to add a son on top of it?
Altair, too--Altair who came back into his life as Malik had begun to somewhat settle, stressed, and overworked that he was. Altair who breezed into his space without a care in the world, who carefully upended everything that Malik had started to at least settle with--Altair who brought hints of something untoward in Masyaf, of conspiracies that Malik did not want to entertain but needed to because it put his own at risk. Altair who confessed to him--Altair whom he was fond for, whom he wanted--whom he needed. Malik's mind cast back to his actions earlier that morning and a flush of embarrassment crossed his cheeks even buried into his palm as they were. With a groan Malik leaned himself back until his shoulders hit the bookshelves and he dragged his palm down until it covered just his mouth as he stared at the ceiling.
Malik wanted to cry; he wanted to rage and scream and burst out of his skin. He wanted to take his blade and hack Al Mualim into pieces, and then aim himself at whomever else had hurt his Novices and his son. Perhaps he would introduce Faheem to the sharp end of his blade, alongside Desmond's 'Bill' before he turned that blade on the rest of Masyaf that rejoiced in Altair's pain. He felt too tight, the furiousness that burned within him at the danger Altair had been in, at the danger Desmond might be in, at the danger against his Novices and at the danger he was willing to send his brother into. Malik shifted in his seat and tried to breathe against his palm, to force himself to calm. He felt like he could shed himself into a being of fury and rage and so much hate, and he hated it. He hated how he felt long and drawn out and tired.
What Malik needed was a good, long moment to let loose. To work everything out; to clash blade against another and another and another until his muscles ached and burned and his breath stilled in his lungs and he was free. Until blood flowed and limbs hurt and until he couldn't even think anymore. Malik needed to hurt in a physical way to break the emotions that whirled in him like a storm. The sex from the morning had done nothing more than draw Malik's attention to the tightness within him, to the beast--the demon--beneath his skin that wanted to be let free. It teased him with it--with the edge of the thought of burned muscles and hinted pain. It was a rush and breathlessness that Malik craved but it hadn't satisfied and now--now with all the fears that crashed in Malik's head he wanted more. He needed more.
Malik needed to let the beast free, but he couldn't--and it grated something fierce.
The door to the Bureau opened and Malik tilted his head forward, shoved himself off the bookshelves to train his gaze on the door--and tension bled from him when he caught sight of Desmond, held to a familiar frame. Without even thinking Malik was on his feet and across the room as Altair set Desmond down on the floor--and Malik was there, knelt down to look the boy over with a critical eye and a stern gaze.
"What were you thinking?" Malik said, words on the edge of being hissed, barely contained as he scrubbed his fingers through Desmond's hair, relief at a safe and whole son had him drag his hand down to pull Desmond into a hug. "It is not safe in the city, habibi, especially not alone."
"'M sorry," Desmond mumbled into Malik's chest and Malik sucked in a breath, then let it out and curled himself over the boy and barely stopped himself from trembling.
"You must ask before you venture out," Malik said, words soft but sharp, "and you must not venture out alone. If you wish to explore more of the city then I or Altair or Kadar will take you, but you must ask." Malik pulled away only when Altair laid a hand upon his shoulder, gaze instantly up to Masyaf's Eagle who had pulled at the cloth he'd wrapped his hair and face in, lips curled into a fond smile. Malik's face crossed into a frown immediately as he waspishly bit out, "What are you smiling at, Novice?"
"Did I not tell you, eaglet?" Altair said, as Malik rocked back, and Desmond glanced between him and Altair with wide eyes. "You need only ask us if you wish to go outside of the house--and see? Malik agrees."
"You’re not angry?" Desmond bit his lip and Malik blinked; he glanced to Altair who tilted his head back slightly, eyes eagle sharp as he gazed back at Malik and Malik sighed, heavy and deep as he climbed back to his feet and took Desmond's hand.
"I am furious," Malik said, but his words were calm as he spoke, the edge dulled as Altair stepped to his shoulder, wrapped an arm around his waist and walked with him as Malik led Desmond back toward the house proper. "That you left without asking, without even telling a soul--I had no idea where you were or what had happened, Desmond." Desmond ducked his head at Malik's side and his hand in Malik's tightened for a moment, then tried to slip away so Malik fastened his grip. "I am also happy that you are safe and sound. I was terrified, Desmond. You cannot leave the house like that."
"But he was important," Desmond mumbled and Malik paused at the door to the Bureau and then glanced to Altair at his shoulder, who looked off to the side with a pinched expression. Malik frowned; there was something there in the way Altair looked, how he kept his gaze everted and how his eyes were narrowed, and his lips pressed thin that was worrying. Malik glanced to Desmond again who stared at his feet, hand limp in Malik's grip.
"Who was important?" Malik asked, words light. He slipped out of Altair's grip to haul Desmond up with one hand and drop him on the Bureau's counter. "What drew you away from the safety of our home?"
"It was--was--" Desmond fumbled for his words, his hands folded in his lap repeatedly, fingers twisted together. Malik reached out and stilled them with his own hand, rubbed circles to the back of Desmond's fingers as he hummed softly to try and settle the turmoil that appeared in his son’s mind. "Golden-orange-important," Desmond said, worlds half-mumbled as he stared at his hands and where Malik's hand rested on his. "Surrounded by red on all sides and unknowing knowing of the dangers and frustrated with the false falseness that surrounds him." Desmond raised his head sharply and he had a pout to his lips as he said, "He felt like you, papa. Like you and--and Alty and--and like safety and peace and I couldn't just--just leave him there! With all that red and frustration and hurt!"
"My little savior," Malik said under his breath as he moved his hand up from Desmond's, to run his fingers through his son's hair and cradle the back of the child's head. "Not everyone needs or wants saving, child."
"But--But--But he belongs here!" Desmond said, frustration lining every inch of his frame. His hands curled into fists and he nearly slammed them down on the table when Altair reached out from around Malik and grasped them tight.
"What did I say about hitting things?" Altair spoke, words soft but a steel beneath them that had Desmond stilling. Malik glanced back to the taller man, brow raised, but Altair didn't even spare him a look as he stared down at Desmond who ducked his head and murmured something that sound like 'not to' to Malik's ears. He wondered what happened, who they found, and what had really brought this on at this moment. There had to be a trigger, right? Something to set his son off--something to drag his attention to this stranger that Desmond felt belonged to their home.
A stranger that gave Altair a pinched, complicated expression; Malik would admit to open curiosity at that. He'd never quite seen Altair with that expression before, and it was one that both gave him pause and slight amusement because whomever can put Altair on edge was someone to be wary of, but at the same time whomever could put that expression on Altair's face could be a great potential ally. Malik blinked away the thoughts as he focused back on Desmond and asked, "Does this important man have a name?"
Desmond paused, then ducked his head and said quietly, "Maria."
Malik had to pause, to parse the name, and then he glanced to Altair with his brow raised and watched the way Altair looked at him back, and then shifted his gaze away with a softly spoken, "Maria Thorpe."
English, then, Malik noted and fought the faint curl to his lips. English meant possible ties to the crusaders which was unfortunate but not something necessarily bad; after all Altair's own mother had been English in her origins although most of Masyaf liked to pretend to forget that except when it became a convenient insult. Malik breathed in slow; Maria however indicated someone wholly female--and Desmond clearly named this important Maria a man. It wasn't the first time Malik noticed Desmond commenting about someone in such a way; he was not blind to how Desmond spoke of Jamal, and the frustration Desmond outright displayed with Kadar quietly corrected him.
"Maria is a...man?" Malik asked, words cautious as he wondered if he had put off certain conversations with Desmond for a bit too long while Desmond nodded rapidly to Malik's question and Altair--shrugged.
"Thorpe was dressed in men's clothes, and held themselves as a man," Altair said, carefully, "but they were soft in the face and the voice." The more Altair spoke the more Malik's brow raised. Altair whispered so that Desmond could not hear, "They did not correct him."
"Crossdresser?" Malik asked back, words under his breath in response, and Altair shrugged.
"It was hard to read," Altair responded and Malik processed that quickly; Altair was rather good at parsing who a person was, so for him to sit there and claim someone hard to read had to be a feat in and of itself. Malik stared at him, stared at the way Altair's cheeks flushed. He ducked his head a second later and Malik returned his gaze to Desmond who stared at them with his head tilted to the side, a puzzled expression bare.
"What does clothes or voice or softness have to do with anything?" Desmond asked once he had Malik's attention again, and Malik breathed out slowly and carefully and wondered if now he should address this--except if he addressed this now then he was not addressing the problem at hand which was Desmond's choice to wander into the city alone after some vague sense of important.
Malik shook himself of his thoughts and to say, "I will be happy to discuss that with you later, Desmond. Right now we need to talk about why you left." Desmond frowned, opened his mouth, but Malik raised his hand to stop the boy and obediently Desmond went quiet, gaze tracked to the palm. "You left because of your second sight, did you not?" Desmond frowned, opened his mouth, and then closed it a second later as he turned his gaze downward. "Desmond...."
"...yes, papa," Desmond mumbled.
"That special way you see the world is not wrong, Desmond," Malik said, and he kept his words careful as he placed his hand upon Desmond's knee. "You get so much extra information when you put your mind to it--but you cannot rely on just your sight. You left the house without knowing what situation this important person was actually in, only a feeling--right?"
"...yes..."
"You could have gotten hurt, child," Malik said, and watched the way Desmond's eyes started to water a bit. "You could have gotten hurt and I would not have known, and that terrifies me, Desmond." For a long moment Malik looked at Desmond, at the way Desmond sniffled and then rubbed at his eyes--and then within a second Desmond flung himself into Malik's waist, crying.
"I didn't mean to worry you!" Desmond practically bawled, and Malik breathed out a slow and deep breath as he wrapped his arm around Desmond's back.
"I know, I know," Malik said as he slowly rocked Desmond back and forth. He felt Altair come up to his back, and then arms were around him and around Desmond too, chin rested on Malik's shoulder.
With Altair Malik kept up the gentle rocking of Desmond until the boy had settled from his sudden hysterics. When Malik felt Desmond had finally calmed enough he pulled back slightly to look Desmond over. His cheeks were bright red and tear stained as he stared up at Malik and Altair--enough that Malik reached out with his sleeve and carefully dried away the remnants of the tears. As he did so he said softly, "You are still in trouble, Desmond, because you did a very dangerous thing." Desmond sniffled as Malik cleaned his face first with his sleeve, and then with a careful application of saliva to his thumb, which he rubbed along the tear tracks on Desmond's face. "For the next few days there will be no blade training, and no visits to the Souk."
"Ok..." Desmond mumbled, and Malik could hear the frustration and disappointment keenly; they were emotions Malik knew well enough.
"Now, inside," Malik said, as he backed up into Altair's chest to allow Desmond the space to hop down. Desmond dropped to the ground and looked to Malik who raised his brows. "You are filthy, child. Go and wash; Jawad has prepared an afternoon meal for everyone." With a nod, calmer, Desmond scooted around Altair and Malik and through the door to the bureau. Malik watched him go for a moment with Altair wrapped tight around him--and let the need to be calm, to bury the edge that burned beneath his skin, go.
At his back Malik felt Altair shift slightly, the only acknowledgement that Malik had let himself completely settle and that Altair could feel the shift, before Malik tilted his head back and regarded the taller man with a faint sneer. "If you were not already injured, I would beat you black and blue," Malik ground out.
"Promise?" Altair whispered in his ear, and Malik smacked him in the stomach sharply with his hand. He listened to the grunt with a faint thrum of pleasure. After a moment of staring into Altair's smug continence Malik turned his gaze away--but he did not try to get out of the arms wrapped tight around him. "I am sorry I did not tell you, but I thought it more prudent to find Desmond first."
Malik snorted. "You were not wrong," he agreed. "I would have eviscerated you never mind your injury if you came to me without him found first." Malik narrowed his eyes at Altair. "As it stands, I demand your time before you leave. We will cross blades."
"I look forward to it," Altair murmured back, and Malik let himself fully relax with the promise of mutual violence in the future. He could wait a week; he could last that long to beat the itch--to ache and bleed from a good scrap in a ring with Altair. "In the meantime, let me take care of you," Altair said, and tightened his grip just enough for Malik's attention to be drawn to the pressure. He dug his fingers in tight to Malik's sides, against his hips, and Malik breathed out slow and steady.
"Later," Malik said like an oath. "The meal applies to you as well. I have some expected business."
Altair tilted his head, and then ducked it in acknowledgement as he loosened his grip and then slipped away from Malik's back. The man uttered a short, "Dai," in a low, drawn way that settled straight to Malik's gut far too comfortably. With barely any movement Altair ghosted into the Bureau proper, and Malik could not help the way he watched the graceful motion--a weapon and a sin wrapped as temptation. Malik shook himself and reached for a book he needed to translate. There was work to be done.
Maria swiped a hand over her brow as she stared at the row of houses in mild frustration. She'd gotten distracted, which was poor performance on her part but the child who had come up to her--Desmond, Maria remembered he introduced himself as Desmond ibn Malik--had been rather adorable. His curiosity and worry for her had been refreshing, and the way he happily referred to her as 'sir' had left a little butterfly in her stomach. She still wasn't sure if Desmond realized she was not a man, but his precocious misunderstanding had been cute while it lasted.
Given the boy had come up to her after another round of her companion’s choice to barrage her about her position--being de Sable's double came with its perks and its poorer moments, such as earlier--well Maria figured a bit of distraction would do him good. At the very least she could ensure the boy got home safely given the rather large number of slavers in the city that would happily take a small child for his pound of flesh. With her plan and distraction in motion Maria set out with the rather talkative and precious child for the next fair bit of the day--and yet all too quickly it came to an end.
She still wondered about that man, Altair. Maria narrowed her eyes; he certainly looked like the boy, but Desmond had named his father Malik and even Altair agreed the boy's father was Malik--and yet so, was he? It did not quite add up; she worried she left the boy in poor hands but when she tried to follow Altair and Desmond, she'd lost them in the crowd. Altair certainly had talent to avoid a tail; it did not lend him favorable consideration. Maria just hoped Desmond made it home safe and that Altair was as trustworthy as the naïve child felt.
Without her distraction though it meant Maria had to continue her original journey; the bound journal of loose pages tucked into the breast of her tunic reminded her clearly of her original goal. The Order, and by the Order Maria fully meant de Sable, had heard of a talented scholar who had a way with words that set up shop in Jerusalem. He apparently had other skills, but Maria's main interest was about his knowledge of languages. The hope was this scholar could translate the text that not even de Sable's own contacts had luck with; there was something about the loose pages that had confounded all the Order's various scholars, apparently, but Maria called bullshit on that.
More likely de Sable had decided to look for another contact in the city; another poor fool to potentially exploit if it came to it in the end. With pursed lips Maria looked over each house with narrowed eyes--she knew the shop was run out of a home, she just was not sure which. Each of the houses in this area apparently doubled as places of work, and there weren't any clear signs to indicate which was which. Maria ground her teeth and wondered how she was expected to find the scholar--guess?! After another moment contemplating the houses, Maria huffed a breath and closed her eyes.
The answer was before her; she knew that clearly--could feel it--and when Maria opened her eyes, she turned toward the middle house and marched her way up to the door. Maria didn't bother to knock; the front room was a place of business after all. She had frequented such an establishment once before, so she knew the routine easily enough. The entryway as she entered was clear, led to a large open room with bookshelves that lined one wall, a counter, and what looked like a few worktables. Maria blinked at the various paraphernalia that were laid out on tables, pinned with small rocks or books. A side door led to what looked like a garden area, probably meant for relaxation and conversation with potential customers.
Maria caught sight of what looked like a detailed map of Jerusalem; her brows raised as she glanced to it and then focused her gaze upon the counter. Sat behind it was a man, dark of skin and dark of hair like everyone else Maria has met in this land, a small goatee settled to his face. He seemed rather engrossed in what he was focused on, carefully writing on something as he peered at another item--translating, Maria figured. It was something that he was known for--translation, as well as that he had a single arm, although he did not seem to let the disfigurement stop him from quick turnaround times.
"I will be with you in a moment," the man said, words careful as he worked in front of him--and then he set the brush down and leaned back against the stool, rubbed at his neck with his right hand before he stood up and focused on her. "Welcome to my humble shop. How may I be of assistance to you?"
Maria stepped further into the room; there was a small pot of incense burning in one corner, and she could see a cup of some liquid half-abandoned on the counter. A few candles provided some additional lighting in the room, for what little the sun did not provide through the doorway to the garden. Carefully Maria made her way to the counter as she said, "I was told you have skill with languages and translation."
The shopkeeper sighed as if tired, but he nodded his head. "It is a skill I have, yes. Let me see what you have, then."
Maria clocked the faint reluctance immediately; this man did not like the act of translating for translations sake. Given the large number of maps that were half-finished about the room, and what Maria thought was a book of codes from what little she could see on the other side of the counter, she bet the man was interested in more esoteric writings than straight translation. Perhaps de Sable had chosen well, then, Maria decided and reached into her tunic to pull out the book of loose pages.
"If you know the language you are already above the rest," Maria said as she handed the book over. He took it almost reverently and Maria had to reassess the reluctance she noted; perhaps it was less about translating for translations sake and more something else that made him wary of a new text to handle. She watched as he opened the book, thumbed through the pages with a faint hum--and then a pause of surprise.
"Egyptian?" he said, brows raised. "Late Egyptian?"
Maria leaned forward. "You recognize it then?" she asked, curious.
"My Egyptian is a little rusty," the man shrugged his shoulders, "but I can read this, at least...I think that is a bit of Grecian, too, actually. Hm." He tilted a page and narrowed his gaze for a moment before he slipped the pages back into place and closed the cover. "Intriguing. Where did you get such a text? Clearly not the original; there are hesitation marks in the copy."
"My master only wants it translated," Maria said clearly, and instantly the shopkeeper raised his head to reassess her, eyes narrowed as he looked her up and down clearly.
"I see," he said. "And the name of the one who requests the translation?"
"Maria Thorpe," Maria nodded her head, and watched as the brows raise again faintly.
"Your master is a Maria Thorpe?" came the faint surprised question and Maria frowned.
"No, I am Maria Thorpe," Maria corrected and watched as the shopkeeper paused, reassessed her again, and then slide the book off to the side.
"Malik al-Sayf," Malik introduced, words slow as he tilted his head. "I can have you a rough outline in about ten days. Any more than that will take additional time and money. As I said my Egyptian is a fair bit rusty, my Grecian less so." Maria stilled at the name; Malik--could it be a coincidence? A part of her wanted to ask about the boy, about Desmond, but she stilled her tongue. "Half payment up front, the rest after."
"Quarter payment up front," Maria countered, aware that haggling was a common curtesy. "For a rough outline quarter payment is plenty. Second quarter after the outline is received, remainder of the payment once translation is completed."
Malik inclined his head in agreement, a pleased smile to his lips as he made a gesture and Maria quickly pulled out her coin purse to count--the door opened as she did so, and swiftly Malik grabbed a book from the counter and moved around it.
"Abdul," Malik said and Maria turned to watch as he quickly moved across the room to embrace the man that entered. "The translation of myths you requested for your boy. Let me know if he has any questions, hm?"
"Thank you, Rafiq," Abdul said, and he seemed near reverent, Maria noted--at least rather pleased with the book that Malik handed over with little fanfare aside from a small smile. They exchanged a few more words that Maria decided to ignore out of politeness, and then the door opened once more, and Malik returned to the counter. She finished counting out the coin and waited as Malik counted the coin back before the deal was finalized.
Malik settled the book into a corner, took out another book--a ledger, Maria noted, given how he quickly marked down the amount she gave him, her name, and a short description of the request before he gave her a final nod. In quiet Maria turned and made her way out of the shop; she knew where it was now, and the man behind the counter--she would find them easily if she needed to in the future. At the doorway Maria eyed the map of Jerusalem; she might have to return with a request of her own, if this was the skill the man displayed. Later, though; for now, she needed to report to de Sable about the book and Malik al-Sayf.

Secret Service: GLOBALISM Chapter 4
Season: Winter Author:  Akira Characters: Kohaku, Hiyori, Jun Proofed by: gigi (EN)
<Hours later, in Kyuushu>
Tumblr media
Kohaku: —To make a long story short, I came all the way out here to teach Madara-han a lesson.
Tumblr media
Jun: No no no……. Coming here is a big ‘NO’. Traveling to other areas during the qualifying round is prohibited, isn’t it? Are you gonna be okay, Sakura-kun?
Kohaku: It ain’t okay, exactly, but I’ve managed to cobble some things together in order to help ensure things go smoothly.
I’ve asked my older sister, who’s real talented at makin’ disguises, to temporarily switch places with me一
And just in case my rule-breakin’ gets found out, it seems like Rinne-han has some dirty tricks up his sleeves.
He looked like he was behavin’ himself all this time, but in reality, he’s already prepared a couple of things.
In fact, he got mad at me for not tellin’ him earlier. If you're going to do something bad, you need to be ready for anything, y’know, and all that.
Jun: Up to no good again, Crazy:B?
Kohaku: Hmm. If you wanna think of something that opposes justice as being ‘evil’, then yeah, Crazy:B is evil.
However ... We're on the side of the idols and the fans who support them. Don't worry, it won't turn out to be a sad story for everyone.
Jun: Haaa... I don’t really get it, but I don't think we have the right to interfere with your situation, do we?
As your friend, I don't want to see you get into any kind of serious trouble.
Kohaku: I'm sorry. At the very least, I'll be careful not to cause you guys grief.
First of all, tell me where Madara-han is and I'll be on my way—if you know anythin’ about his whereabouts, please let me know.
I came all the way out here to beat the stuffing outta him, but I don’t have the foggiest clue of where to find him.
He's probably somewhere in Shikoku. Shikoku’s a huge island though, so I was hoping to have some idea of where to look first.
Right now, Madara-han is working with Adam, ain’t he? If that's the case, I was wonderin’ if I could trace them back from Eve, who’re also in Eden.
Jun: Aha, so that’s why you came looking for us, even though we’ve been staying put at the inn this whole time.
But unfortunately, as I said on the phone yesterday, we don't know where Adam is or what they’re doing.
Adam—or rather, Ibara—is stubbornly keeping us on the straight and narrow, preferring to do the dirty work all by themselves.
Kohaku: …
Jun: So, while I'm sure there's some bad stuff going on somewhere—I don't know much more about it than that. I'm sorry I can’t be of more help.
Kohaku: That's fine. I thought it was somethin’ I couldn’t discuss over HoldHands, so I had to come see you in person just to be sure.
Jun: Ibara’s the same way. I was wondering why everyone stopped using HoldHands as frequently after the qualifying round started, especially since it’s so convenient.
Kohaku: Rather than sayin’ that others don't use it anymore, it's more that they don't talk about important matters on there anymore.
Because of the way HoldHands works, conversations that take place there go straight to the top brass of ES.
Those who don’t have any trust in the folks in charge of ES or the management shouldn’t use HoldHands, just in case.
Jun: Hmm, so it's like an information war.
I guess that’s the right choice, if even people who are good at that kind of stuff like Yuuki-san and Ibara choose to avoid using HoldHands.
Kohaku: Yuuki-san’s that guy from Trickstar, ain’t he?
He couldn’t use HoldHands even if he wanted to, considerin’ that they confiscated his phone before throwin’ him into the jungle. (1)
Jun: A lot of units have been thrown into some pretty reckless situations this time...
The feel of SS has changed a ton this year, hasn't it? It wasn't like that at all last year.
The more serious units who thought it would be the same as last year and prepared themselves in advance must be having a hard time this around, right?
On the other hand, for newcomers who don't know anything about idols and aren't interested in the history of idols, this year's development is in their favour. Isn't "Crazy:B" in a position like that?
Kohaku: Nnn~ Rinne-han and HiMERU-han are actin’ surprisingly old-fashioned, so they've been complaining on and on about it nonstop. As for Niki-han and I, we’ve been enjoyin’ it normally up till now.
We’ve been watching the live broadcasts from other areas, and laughin’ till our stomachs hurt.
If it were simply idols singin’ and dancin’, we probably wouldn't have had the slightest interest in it until last year.
It would be like watchin’ a match at Koshien Stadium for people who don't know anythin’ about baseball—we sure wouldn’t have enjoyed it all that much.
There's a whole lotta variety this year, so it's mighty fun to watch. Isn’t it this way so that even people who don't know much about idols can enjoy it and be entertained?
Jun: I guess so. My whole life has revolved around the concept of idols up till now, so I've watched SS with great interest every year.
From this year onwards, it seems like the plan is to try and involve the general public as a whole, not only the so-called idol otaku.
It seems like ES wants to conquer the world with idols, so I guess it's a necessary process.
Kohaku: That's right. Most of the people living on this planet aren’t the least bit interested in idols.
Moving forward, if we want to make a breakthrough in the future, we need to attract that kind of broader demographic.
If we just keep doing what we've always done, we'll eventually hit our limit.
Jun: That’s right, I know. There are just so many things to do and things to think about, it’s hard~... I'm not the handy type at all.
By making it a nationwide festival and involving the general public, I feel that conventional wisdom is no longer being applied, and it's a little scary. Honestly—
—Geh. Sorry, Sakura-kun. I've been complaining about something stupid, haven't I?
Kohaku: Haha, it’s fine. It seems like Jun-han’s been caged up in the inn for a long time, so he must be feeling pretty mad and resentful.
Jun: That's right. Right now, I have to be on standby for any request for help, but I wish I could go take a break somewhere.
Tumblr media
Hiyori: If that’s the case, then let’s all go for a trip together!
Tumblr media
Jun: ...... Ah? What's with the sudden appearance, Ohii-san?
And what do you mean? Can't you speak in a way that makes sense?
Hiyori: Yes! Not a robot, I am!
Kohaku: Oh, hello there. Sorry for the bother.
Hiyori: Yes, welcome~ ♪ Thank you for always playing with this Jun-kun of mine, Kohaku-kun!
Jun: What are you, my parent?—And what do you mean by “go for a trip”? Aren’t we already on a trip away from home right now?
Hiyori: Non, non! Being holed up in an inn and soaking in hot springs all the time can’t be called a trip just by itself, even though there are some trips that focus solely on this type of comfort!
I want to go around to see more of the sights and sample some of the local delicacies!
And after that, take lots of pictures for the memories, and then buy more souvenirs than we can carry—
That’s the kind of trip I want to go on! We’ve got a lot of time, don’t we?
It all works out, we’ve got the wherewithal to go on a trip like this~♪.
Jun: … … ?

Fresh(?) Impressions (11)
Other parts: |Trickstar| |UNDEAD| |2wink| |Ra*bits| |Akatsuki| |fine| |Ryuseitai| |Knights| |Valkyrie| |Switch| |MaM/Double Face/Crazy:B| |Eden| |Alkaloid|
----------------------------------------------
Hello Enstarries~☆ The most very likely longest post I've ever posted on this hellsite (affectionate) is here! I'll rate MaM, Double Face & Crazy:B (not in this exact order) and it should be obvious I'll only show one picture per character except for two. It would probably be better to show their whole outfit but I wanna use their cards for the aesthetic. I'm actually procrastinating rn bc I still have so many days left to do in the current event (Intersecting Motorshow) but the repidigit mission is causing me psychic damage. I'll come back to it later.....Oh and my wrist is still killing me 😭 It's actually both of my wrists now....
DISCLAIMER!: Everything said here is for entertainment purposes only and not meant to attack anyone. This is not an accurate description of any characters but my subjective rambling for fun, so please don't take it too seriously. (Just to be safe, I'm kinda scared of elite idol fans) Also, you will hear me mention other games a bunch of times bc I'm that bad and uncreative at explaining and I'm still grieving A3!EN's shutdown. Eng is my 2nd (or 3rd?) language so there might be some weird grammar or spelling mistakes. And I write at 3 am usually.
Without further ado.....Let's Ensemble~☆
----------------------------------------------
Tumblr media
By the time I am writing this part.....it is unfortunately not high noon; it's 9pm right now!!! Interesting to see one guy being a w h o l e unit by himself. I was always confused why there's just one guy but eh whatever. No idea where the idea of spreading hope, positivity, motivation and cowboys intersect but if it works 🤷‍♀️ I can't say I like his outfit bc cowboys aren't my thing but he looks decent enough. The colors especially fit him very well but that's to be expected, considering there's only 1 guy to tailor the outfit to. The red piece of fabric on his waist is a very nice pop off in terms of colors & sillouette. Btw is that brown strap on his trousers the gun holder? Inconvenient placement but it would be very cool if the gun is an actual part of his outfit lol. Now comes the sad part, I don't vibe to his songs I've heard yet in the game. There is smth that makes me unrationally irritated and angry???? He's just cheering us up and encouraging us but I just don't like his songs for some reason? Sorry man 😣
5.5/10 - I think it's the first time the music brought the rating down
Madara Mikejima
Tumblr media
Howdy boiiiiiiiiiiiii I feel so bad 🥲 He seems like a genuinely good guy. I mean, I did hear smth about him lowkey gaslighting Anzu into thinking they're childhood friends to get closer to Trickstars somehow but I don't think it could have been so bad. I hope. He really wants to spread ~good vibes~ and all and is adamant in being true to himself and his fans. Going after his own beat so to say. A strong boy. Another rich boy apparently???? Which I didn't see coming at all, though he doesn't really care much about that anyways. A very healthy boy. Like, carrying a 17-18 y/o girl is still taking a lot of power and energy even if she's only 50ish kg. And he went quite a while from what I get in his Ep.1. The absolute confidence this guy has to just become a solo performer amidst all these groups. Ik inside the world there are obv other soloists but he radiates confidence one way or another. Initially, I thought it was just the fandom making him out to be the mom friend bc of his unit name and personality but he actually says it himself 😶 I get the feeling others tend to underestimate or are intimidated by him due to his self-assured and almost over-friendly attitude, which he makes use of very well. He's the perfect example of charismatic. I am pretty sure he's also quite popular with mothers, grannies and children. Kinda like Chiaki in a lot of aspects. He looks pretty good. He's falling perfectly into my preference of brown haired green-eyed 2D guys so that checks out. His voice is also pretty nice. It's smooth, rich but still somehow airy like.......liverwurst (I had to google this word and, like, I didn't expect it to be a literal translation from the german one, very very tasty btw). There's still smth nnnggghh about it, though only minimal.
7/10 - kinda intimidating extrovert but definitely looking forward to learn more about him
Tumblr media
Ah yes, another one of my fav units musically. They just sound so DAMN AMAZING!!! No idea what genre they tend to go but it's wild and fun and makes me just lose myself. There is not a single song I dislike, literally every song is a banger in one way or another. They all sound good together and just !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'd keyboardsmash but I think you get it already. If I were forced to chosse favs, I'd say Crazy Roulette and PARANOIA STREET but all songs are really good. It was when I watched their MVs when I noticed how long their torsos and tiny their waists are. I like their uniforms very much as well. There are 2 variants with slight differences and everyone wears individual accessories, which is a bit like Ra*bits and obv makes me weak. It looks like a stylish everyday outfit, if not a bit fancy but it fits the theme of freedom and fun. Black and white are always safe options to go with but it's not boring at all with the different prints, the little bit of other colors and the bling overall. The bee brooches are soooo cute and just make the outfit 10x better. The buttons are shaped like honeycombs!! Honestly, it's probably one of the best regular unit outfits in the game, for me ofc. No idea about the group dynamic but I know that everyone is kinda wild and weird and not a single normal person is in this group, which might not seem much in this game but I mean, I can't even see them functioning with each other but at the same time it's kinda obv they just do whatever and it somehow works??? As I've said, officially, I've only read their Ep.1. And with the memes (and therefore random spoilers), that's kinda the vibe I get. That and I saw a twitter post on tumblr listing their canon crimes, which I shouldn't trust blindly ofc but there's that. I guess it's in the name. Kinda cute how they're bees though. You'd think they'd go for cooler animals like idk leopards or dogs or smth and not little bees but it's a fun novelty.
9/10 - I wanna gobble those bumblebees
Rinne Amagi
Tumblr media
A runaway ex-monarch, now where have I heard that before???? Well, Citron (A3!) eventually got back, gave up the throne and peace somehow happened with everyone but I don't think that's the case for this guy here. I don't know much more about his past except, that he's Hiiro's brother and they lived in a remote conervative village. I can definitely see, that he used to be smn important with how he acts. He seems very carefree, lax and rough around the edges but he is in no way stupid and actually pretty sharp, I think. I couldn't fully concentrate when I was reading his Ep.1 bc 1. it was midnight and 2. he talks like a radio host or game commenter 😂 Talks a LOT and very lively. I already knew he had a good as in attractive but yeah also good singing voice but holy did his normal talking voice catch me off guard. It was very...👀 To put it in my unique descriptions....idk man. No words, it's a bit more difficult bc he goes up and down a lot, it's a very nice kind of deeper voice, though. He'd tell the best stories for children. I guess it's comparable to a nice quiet day at the beach with a bit of wind. Not too sunny or too hot. Unsurprisingly, he's obsessed with thrills and new things too, I'd say. Probably stems from the fact, that he used to live a set path in his zraditonal village. Likes gambling and considers even marriage gambling, which isn't wrong. Nothing in life is set in stone, after all. I did hear he can be kind of an asshole and self-absorbed, which is also not surprising. His vibe kinda gave it off. Very likely impulsive and does not think things through 80% of the time, which makes him not stupid but stupid. Fun person to watch but not to hang around with. I feel like he'd drag you in his problems regularly. I don't think he can cook or do basic household chores so how did he survive alone then??? He didn't get scouted immediately, right? He can clean the toilet at max. Btw. he has a pretty good sense of fashion for smn who's pretty new to urban life. He also has certain charm to him and looks kinda good. Oh and he seems like he's in his 20s, which makes me question why he calls us Nee-san. "Miss" would be more appropriate, no?
7/10 - interesting fun guy but I'm preparing myself for the coming headaches
HiMERU
Tumblr media
So mean of him to let i be the only small letter :( Or is it some symbolism? Ok, so straight up, I heard he's impersonating for his younger hospitalized brother, which is why he always refers to himself as "HiMERU" and not in first person. If I remember correctly ofc. Now, that already goes to show he cares greatly for his brother but also that he has determination of steel bc who would go through so much trouble wth. And the thing with acting as close as the original Himeru is just.....😧 Why would he do that? Does he actually care for him, or was he somehow forced to do it? He seems pretty chill, obv very secretive and relatively distant, to no one's surprise. He's also polite but can roast you without you even noticing. Maybe I'm just being judgemental but he might also be more cold. His hair looks like bedhair but the good "I woke up like this" ⭐ variant Nonetheless, he should probably get those strands down and away from his face. Black goes very well with him for some reason. His voice sounds so seductive when he sings but is pretty calm and rather quiet otherwise. It's not weak, though, and rather like a sturdy bench but with ventilation since it's also a bit airy.
6/10 - there's a lot to uncover but I'm in no hurry to find out
Kohaku Oukawa
Tumblr media
I'm having difficulties telling his and Niki's singing voices from each other apart. It's so stupid considering how often I listened to the songs but their differences are not that noticable and both fit. Kohaku's normal talking voice is very easily recognizable, on the other hand. In Crazy:B at least. It's similiar to Mika and Shinobu but he has a less stretchy speech pattern (M) and his voice is deeper (S). He sings pretty decent. Not 100% sure what's up with him but wasn't he some assassin or smth? He seems too friendly and normal to be one. I almost wanted to ask what one would even do here but that's a stupid question 🤦‍♀️ He seems to have family problems. I heard somewhere that he likes sweets as well so....Welcome to the club💖!!! I sure hope he's open for all kinds of sweets around the world. I thought he'd be more grumpy and serious but he's a normal amount of that. I like his hair and eye color. It's the same combination as Shu's but I like it on him more. Probably bc I like his hair more and he just looks friendlier.
7/10 - sympathetic dude fr
Niki Shiina
Tumblr media
I see a lot of :P from him. Is the bit about his condition about being less able to absorb nutrients true? That would suck man. Being hungry 20/7 sounds like a nightmare. What also sounds like a nightmare is cannibalism, which I sure hope is just a misnderstanding or misinformation bc wtf. Anyways, aside from that, he can cook! Plus point here already. Trust goes through the stomach after all. Talks similiarly to Rinne but more playfully. His voice reminds me of fresh citrus fruits. Seems diligent (for the sake of food) and is pretty cheerful (unless there's no food). Mans got his priorities straight of retiring as an idol if it strains his physical and therefore mental well-being. Must be a bit of a pushover if he got talked into becoming an idol of all possibilities. I mean, it's obv they can't eat a lot and have to work hard to stay in shape and sing well. I thought he'd be more reserved and uh normal bc malewife material and memes portrayed him as the one who cleans up the chaos. Maybe, my memory is pretty hazy on that regard. I like his appearance. Pretty hair, blep, kinda cute.
7/10 - kinda like and curious about him
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Remember how I said the typical idol outfit is inspired by imperialistic european military uniforms? I guess it's taken literally here but more shifted to the 20th century. I have no idea what the theme is supposed to be. I did see that they were called executioners when I picked the cards from the wikia but is that it? Back to the clothes, they look good! You can't go wrong with suits and gloves. It's with darker grim colors (pretty sure they're from Madara's MaM outfit) which fits to executioners. The sherrif star is a bit funny but I guess it works as a medal here. What puzzles me is the puzzle piece on their belts. Are they also seekers or smth? The harness??? or how they're called on Madara sure give the extra spice along with the ¾ sleeves, that leave a bit of room for peeking skin. And the magically hanging coat gives him the a bossy feel. Kohaku on the other hand resumes the role of being the cuter one out of the two and has cool cape-shirt to his shorts and overknee boots. The asymmetry of the top makes it more interesting to look at and shifts the focus on the basically only patch of light color on his outfit. He looks like Madara's assistant or second-in-command, not that there are others.
I don't think the group exists yet bc 1. it's not shown anywhere in-game and 2. Kohaku is a new character after all and just got introduced to be part of Crazy:B (I think, I haven't read the story yet). It will probably be formed later on for some reason. It doesn't seem like he left the other unit like Nazuna left Valkyrie. The music can be pretty good. It's more serious sounding compared to what they usually sing and it sometimes reminds me of these cool cinematic chase scenes in oldie movies.
7.5/10 - dunno what's up but I'll look forward to more or actually seeing it formed Ig
----------------------------------------------
Conclusion
Sry to any MaMPs here, I guess the positive songs are too pure and burn my dark soul away or smth along that. Maybe Madara is mermaid prince and his songs are effective against me, an evil fish (Mermaid Melody reference that nobody gets bc barely anyone knows it :,)). Crazy:B got pulled like crazy high through their songs but they're also pretty balanced on their own.
It is now 5 over half 6 am and I already completed the event before starting Crazy:B's part. I am literally so close to simply drifting off to dreamland. I tried to look out for any mistakes but I don't think I found them all. I'm gonna do the rest this week no matter what.
If you wanna share smth just write away with the limit being respectful boundaries and the knowledge, that everything here is just for fun and games! See ya'll later~☆

Note
[arrives 4 days late with fc5 character questions] 3, 7, 20, 28 for nora please?
(For the Far Cry 5 Deputy/OC Questionnaire)
3. What’s their style like? (Clothing style, hats, gloves, masks, etc.)
Nora wears things that expose her midriff a lot. Cardigans in cooler weather, usually either with a deep v neck or buttoned all the way up to the neck, and the same rule applies with t-shirts. Go hard or go home. Florals and knit clothes both look good on her, and white, emerald green, tan, mustard yellow and light grey/blue are all colors she wears often. She’s highly sensitive to the cold; slippers at home, thick socks at work. She buys her winter coat in mid October. Fuck you, Pratt, it’s practical. When she was a teenager, she got piercings between her breasts, which she wears studs in sporadically, enough to keep them from closing up.
She rarely wears her hair in one style for more than a year. She had a lot of protective styles & bonnets forced on her as a kid, given the dry heat of the desert, and as such wore it loose once she had the freedom to. Loose hair requires management, though, and that’s not always possible - she shaved her head when she first moved to Montana, then again after the Reaping started. It doesn’t get long again until after Joseph dies.
After Joseph and Ethan’s deaths, Nora starts wearing the Judge mask on a cord hanging over her chest, and Joseph’s rosary wrapped around her left hand in the same manner that he did. The sudden face exposure and the co-option of one of the Father’s signifiers both feel unclean in their own ways, but she perseveres.
7. What are their thoughts on the cult?
The southwest is home to cults under all sorts of guises - churches, brothels, ranches, etc. - so Nora isn’t completely caught off guard by the presence of one in Hope County. Part of what unsettles her about Eden’s Gate is the virulent nature of the doctrine; it’s not some tiny, inert sect out in the middle of nowhere, it spread across the area like a disease, something you’re just as likely to get sucked into as you are to pass it by unscathed. Most uncomfortably, a lot of the people involved (people she ends up killing en mass) aren’t dissimilar from her and her family; alcoholics, immigrants, vagrants, veterans, former and current criminals. If Nora wanted a cause to devote herself to, dismantling the Project is the first worthy one to present itself since she became a police officer, but it’d probably feel more heroic if she didn’t see herself in the people she was killing.
20. How do they feel about Jacob?
A cat will sometimes carry a live mouse in their teeth for a while, bounce it around with their paws and act like they mean to eat it, then just let it scurry off once they’re done playing. That’s what Nora sees Jacob as.
None of the Seeds treat people like they’re fully human, but Jacob brings it to this brutal conclusion that the others don’t, where your will to survive is repurposed to serve your tormentor’s needs - John violently and permanently forces his viewpoint on others, Faith turns them into disposable, braindead servants, but Jacob is the only Herald who demands his victims take an active role in the process of their own dehumanization. Being covertly reworked into a semi-conscious tool for killing is mentally unmooring in a period of her life which is already riddled with new horrors and doubts, essentially the worst thing that could happen to her after finishing off the other two. By the time she gets to Joseph’s island, she’s honestly baying for blood, if she’s not exactly vocal about it.
(On that note, the fact that Jacob is the Seed who had the greatest immediate negative impact on Nora while also being Joseph’s favorite sibling definitely adds to the already overwhelming bunker tension. The anniversary of Eli’s death is always nasty, as is the inevitable day when Joseph becomes older than his older brother.)
28. Thoughts on Joseph?
Tumblr media
How do you feel about the prospect of freezing to death?
If the answer is “horrified by the level of suffering implied, giving consideration to the idea that god isn’t actually benevolent,” that’s a good summation of the overall feeling Nora associates with Joseph. At first sight, there’s nothing particularly imposing about him, but he comes to be associated with such excessive violence and evil that he sort of… exits the mortal plain, in Nora’s mind. In the bunker, it gets much more muddled, but he’s never someone she can just exist around; you can can talk with Joseph, you can laugh with him, but then he’ll say something or look a certain way and you’ll remember very abruptly that there’s just something deeply wrong with the man, down to his marrow.
Nora can’t imagine him as a child, if that puts it into perspective. Once she is able to, she still can’t manage to feel bad for him - she comes to understand the full extent of his suffering in the bunker and it sort of just… sits in her, acknowledged and observed with distant pity but devoid of any real connective empathy. Ironically, it’s nearly identical to how Joseph feels towards the people he kills.
She has jealousy towards all the Seeds, and with Joseph that manifests itself as bitterness that he never has to feel truly alone, given his assurance of the presence and guidance of god. They all get more than they deserve, she thinks, the murderous cunts. No matter how little they think they had.

MOVE TO HEAVEN // KDRAMA DİZİ YORUMU
UYARI : Yazılar genel olarak spoiler içerebilir. İçermeyedebilir.
İmdb puanı: 8,5 Benim puanım: 9
Drama: Move To Heaven / Move To Heaven: I Am a Person Who Arranges Articles Left by Deceased (literal title)
Hangul: 무브 투 헤븐: 나는 유품정리사입니다
Director: Kim Sung-Ho
Writer: Yoon Ji-Ryeon
Date: 2021
Cast: Lee Je-Hoon, Tang Joon-Sang, Hong Seung-Hee, Ji Jin-Hee, Lee Jae-Wook
Move to Heaven is a deeply emotional and meaningful production that tells the stories people leave behind after death. The series follows a team that organizes the belongings of the deceased and delivers their stories to their families or loved ones. While each episode focuses on a different story, the past and development of the main characters also add depth to the narrative.
Lee Je-Hoon’s performance is one of the shining highlights of the series. Having been familiar with him from previous works, he once again wins admiration here. With his accent, posture, and way of speaking, he completely transforms into someone else. Watching him is always exciting because he brings a completely new identity to every role he plays. His character Sang-Gu, with a tough exterior hiding deep vulnerability, is crucial in carrying the emotional weight of the series.
Tang Joon-Sang, on the other hand, was a new face for me, but thanks to Move to Heaven, he captured my attention and earned my appreciation. Playing the autistic character Geu-Roo, the young actor portrayed his role so successfully that it felt like falling into a true story. His ability to foster empathy and his attention to detail mesmerized the audience.
This series had been on my watchlist for a long time, but I kept postponing it, mainly because I thought I would cry too much. However, after I started watching it, I regretted not starting sooner. Yes, some scenes broke our hearts, but the storytelling was so refined and delicately handled that each episode offered a unique experience. With a new story in every episode, it shines a light on different aspects of life, making the viewer both emotional and contemplative.
The series’ success isn't just due to the leads; the supporting characters also made significant contributions. Every side story served the main theme with a powerful narrative. The direction and cinematography perfectly complemented the show's atmosphere. The simple yet impactful settings enhanced the realism of the stories. Furthermore, while dealing with a heavy theme like death, the use of pastel tones and a calm atmosphere offered viewers a soothing yet poignant experience. Move to Heaven not only delivered emotional stories but also conveyed messages that highlighted empathy and human relationships. Many viewers shared that after watching the series, they approached their lives with a renewed perspective.
In conclusion, Move to Heaven is not just a series, but an experience. With its story that both makes you cry and somehow heals you, it draws the viewer in and leaves a lasting impact. If you haven't watched it yet, I highly recommend adding it to your list.

I’ve been trying for the past few days to properly put my thoughts into words. But I haven’t been able to because anytime I’ve thought about saying goodbye to Tangled, I’ve broken down and had to stop. The only reason I’m finally committing to it now is because I don’t want the show to end before I can make a long post about it.
I’ll admit I haven’t been here as long as a lot of people have. I was 7 years old when the movie came out, so I never got involved with the fandom right after the movie. And I was a victim of Disney’s crappy Tangled promoting, so I didn’t find out that the show even existed until right before season 2 started.
I came across a post about it randomly on Instagram. I had been looking for a new show to watch, and I was surprised to find that a show had been made continuing the movie that my entire childhood basically revolved around, so I gave it a try.
My ADD has always made it hard for me to focus on anything for an extended period of time, and I was never a binge-watcher for anything. But I binge-watched the entire first season of Tangled the Series in less than one day.
And it felt like something in me clicked. I know it sounds silly, but I felt like whatever I had been missing in my life had finally came back to me. A missing puzzle piece in my heart had been placed back where it belonged.
This was about 2 weeks before we got our first promo for Beyond the Corona Walls, and I was thrilled. I watched the season 2 premiere live the morning it aired, and the rest is history.
I was in a really toxic fandom before this. Things were getting out of hand and the series had already ended and I just didn’t feel comfortable anymore. So I decided to give the Tangled fandom a try, and it was the best decision of my life.
Suddenly, I felt like I had a home. The fandom was so welcoming and nice and sure, we have our problems, but it’s a type of community that I’ve never gotten to be a part of before. I joined the Cassunzel Committee and made a lot of fellow Cass-loving friends. I met the Eggheads, a group who formed when season 3 started and somehow bonded over a bald Moonsandra picture and a friendship that became so much more.
I’ve met so many other amazing people in this fandom, I wouldn’t be able to list all of them. But any person I’ve interacted with I consider a friend.
And I can’t even begin to explain the impact the show itself has had on my life. The lessons it’s taught me, the smiles it’s made me crack, the tears it’s made me shed, and the love it’s made me develop for its character and its world.
Thank you Rapunzel for being my light in the darkness. For being with me for the majority of my life and teaching me that my abuse doesn’t define me, and that no matter how dark things get, I can find freedom and happiness and control of my life.
Thank you Eugene for never failing to make me laugh. For showing me that where I come from and what my story is doesn’t matter, and that I don’t have to take on a fake identity to have a purpose in the world.
Thank you Cassandra for being the love of my life and for being the biggest comfort character I have. For showing me that I don’t have to be anyone but myself, for being such a strong role model who can overcome anything while also being vulnerable and soft when the opportunity shows itself.
Thank you Lance for always being a beacon of love and positivity. For making angsty and stressful situations easier to deal with and for bringing some much needed diversity into the Disney world.
Thank you Varian, Adira, Fred & Ari, Maximus, Pascal, and every single other character in the show. Thank you Chris Sonnenburg, Mandy Moore, Zachary Levi, Eden Espinosa, James M. Iglehart, Jeremy Jordan, Ricky Roxburg, Amber Leigh, Tom Caulfield, and every single other person who made this show what it has become. This show has brought me out of some of my darkest times and is an experience I will never forget.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for everything, Tangled. I love you and I’m not ready to say goodbye, but I know that Rapunzel’s story will end meaningfully and the way it was always meant to end. Plus Est En Vous. ☀️💜🌙

Noah Primeval Preface Snark
If you enjoy the content you are reading, please like and follow the Center of Stupidity blog.
Summary: The author claims that his stories are rooted in "the theological and spiritual intent of the Bible."  He also loves to scripture drop. The worst is yet to come.
In case anyone wants to read the original author’s preface in order to form their own conclusions, you can read it here.
In the event that this gets flagged, here is another place to read the chapter snark.
Inspired By True Events.
Keep this in mind, folks.
Because...
Tumblr media
The story you are about to read is the result of Biblical and historical research about Noah’s flood and the ancient Near Eastern (ANE) context of the book of Genesis.
Translation: Because I did some research, it means that the novel is deep and elevated lit-ra-choor.
While I engage in significant creative license and speculation,
....
..................
......................................
That’s a verbose way of saying “I created a work of fiction.”
all of it is rooted in an affirmation of what I believe is the theological and spiritual intent of the Bible.
Even though there are countless Bible interpretations.
You found all of the "hidden truths"and know the "correct" way to read the Bible.
Tumblr media
But silly me.
This is the same person who spews vitriol at movies that don't conform to his beliefs and wrote a paper called Calvinism and the Bible.
In the document, Godawa insists that "Calvinism is simply Biblical Christianity" and how the five points of Calvinism are “truly Biblical doctrines, then most of us western American Christians have been sold a bill of goods as to what the Gospel really is."
For those who are leery of such a “novel” approach,
Tumblr media
Like some other writers, Godawa believes that he has a Wildean wit.
let them consider that the traditional Sunday school image of Noah as a little old white-bearded farmer
Tumblr media
I gotta call bullshit.
The traditional Sunday school image depicted Noah as being a white man.
It didn't emphasize that he was an old farmer.
building the ark alone with his sons is itself a speculative cultural bias.
It's been a while since I've been to CCD…
But I don't remember them ever discussing at great length on how the ark was built.
They don't deal in the minutia.
Instead they focused on educating people about their faith.
And the whole "speculative cultural bias" comment is rich...
Coming from a man who preaches in his fiction and does evangelizing podcasts with his friends.
The Bible actually says very little about Noah.
Instead we get lengthy details about who begat who and what tribe they came from.
We don’t know what he did for a living before the Flood or even where he lived.
Which is why the Midrash aggadah was written.
According to MJL, Midrash aggadah interprets biblical narrative, exploring questions of ethics or theology, or creating homilies and parables based on the text.
For instance, one of the best known midrashes is the story about Abraham.
It states while Abraham was a young child in Mesopotamia, he was smashing idols.
This story suggests that God didn't randomly pick Abraham.
Instead, God knew that Abraham would be receptive to His voice.
How do we know whether he was just a simple farmer or a tribal warrior?
The answer?
We will most likely never know for certain.
And secondly, who cares? It is minutiae.
Oh wait.
The author is going to bestow us the answer.
Genesis 9:2 says Noah “began to be a man of the soil” after the Flood, not before it.
Tumblr media
Genesis 9:2 says this:
The fear and dread of you will fall on all the beasts of the earth, and on all the birds in the sky, on every creature that moves along the ground, and on all the fish in the sea; they are given into your hands.
(This comes from the New International Version.)
And I checked two other translations: the King James Version [KJV] and the English Standard Version [ESV].
They are the same as the first.
The passage about Noah becoming a farmer comes from Genesis 9: 20
Noah began to be a man of the soil, and he planted a vineyard. [ESV]
Noah, a man of the soil, proceeded to plant a vineyard. [NIV]
And Noah began to be an husbandman, and he planted a vineyard. [KJV]
So in conclusion:
Tumblr media
If the world before the flood was full of wickedness and violence,
Because they would all fight evil physically.
It's not like righteous men would ever combat evil by using their words or practicing non violence.
Noah would not have been that different from Abraham,
Or…
He could have been a prophet whose words inspired others.
Nobody knows for certain what Noah did prior to the flood.
who farmed, did business and led his family and servants in war against kings.
Man, Godawa is obsessed with the idea of righteous warriors.
We know very little about primeval history,
Tumblr media
There is a newfangled thing called archaeology.
but we do learn from archeological evidence that humanity was clearly tribal during the early ages when this story takes place.
Um…
The previous line belies the rest of the sentence.
Where's the editor?
Yet, nothing is written about Noah’s tribe in the Bible.
We also don't know anything about Jesus' childhood.
Your point being?
It would be modern individualistic prejudice to assume that Noah was a loner when everyone in that Biblical context was communal.
Who ever said that he was???
Is Godawa just making up arguments so he can tear them down?
Noah surely had a tribe.
You already said that. Move along.
There is really no agreement as to the actual time and location of the event of the Flood.
And in other news…
Bears shit in the woods and the Pope is Catholic.
So B. Godawa lists some theories about when and where the Flood took place.
He thinks it is "Early Bronze Age Mesopotamian contexts" because of some passages in Genesis.
By the by... He doesn't mention any specific passages.
At some other time, I'll take a look at the appendix.
Because right now, I'm not in the mood to read an appendix that is about one hundred pages long.
The Bible also says Noah built the ark.
And now for the following news bulletin:
Adam and Eve lived in a place called the Garden of Eden.
Are we to believe that Noah built it all by himself?
Yes, if you take the Bible literally.
It doesn’t say. With his sons’ help? It doesn’t say.
Tumblr media
But that very same book does say earlier that Cain “built a city” (some scholars believe it was Cain’s son Enoch).
Which scholars said that?
Because doing a quick Google search got me absolutely bupkis.
Instead, I got a bunch of websites that talked about Cain building a city and naming it after his son.
Are we to assume that he built an entire city by himself?
No lie… I had to check and see if Cain had a son named Enoch. (And he did).
Because after the bungling of a verse from Genesis, I wasn’t sure if this was another mistake.
As for Cain building an entire city single handedly?  I’m sure Christian fundamentalists would respond with “yes”.
My response would be “no” followed by:
Who helped Cain to build a city? A lot of golems? Some demons? Or did he hire a lot of people in the nearby area?
If Cain just hired a bunch of people, wouldn't the idea of God only creating two humans [a.k.a. Adam and Eve] be false?
How did Cain get the materials to build a city?
How would Cain know which materials would be good for building a city?
And why did Cain want to build a city in the first place?
Tumblr media
Ridiculous.
Who knew that with one word, such disdain could drip from a person’s tongue?
Cain or Enoch presided as a leader over the building of a city by a group of people,
Tumblr media
Wait a tick…
Godawa previously said that it was Cain that built a city but some scholars believe it was Enoch.
And now he is stating that it could be Cain OR Enoch.
Does that mean that Godawa forgot what he wrote previously?
Or the man who sees himself as the Grand Poobah of Biblical Knowledge is finally admitting that he doesn’t have all the answers?
just as Noah probably did with his ark.
So in other words, Noah just sat on his ass and barked orders at people.
Because as we all know, that is a great leadership style.
One of the only things Genesis says about Noah’s actual character is that he was “a righteous man, blameless in his generation. Noah walked with God” (Gen. 6:9).
Now a normal person would interpret this to mean that Noah was a good person who conversed with God.
But Noah Primeval turns Noah into a Gary Stu. (By the way, this will be revealed in future chapter snarks).
The New Testament clarifies this meaning by noting Noah as an “heir” and “herald” of righteousness by faith (Heb. 11:7; 2Pet. 2:5).
ESV [English Standard Version] said Noah as a “herald of righteousness” while NIV and KJV described Noah as a “preacher of righteousness” (2 Peter 2:5).
While ESV, NIV, and KJV all described how Noah “became an heir of righteousness.” (Hebrews 11:7).
You might be thinking to yourself: What’s your point?
If we are to take into account what the Bible said about Noah… It describes Noah spreading God’s message (like a herald or a preacher). But it also adds that because of Noah’s faith in God, he “became an heir of righteousness.”
This differs from the depiction in Noah Primeval where Noah is the Chosen One from an ancient prophecy.
And that makes him superior to all the other filthy mortals along with slightly less perfect than Jesus.
The popular interpretation of this notion of “righteousness” is to understand Noah as a virtually sinless man too holy for his time, and always communing with God in perfect obedience.
But is this really Biblical?
If you mean, some people acting like sanctimonious hypocritical assholes, then I would loudly shout “Hell yes!”
Would Noah have never sinned? Never had an argument with God?
Personally, my answers would be “no” for both questions.
But in this novel, when Noah isn't acting like a bratty teenager, he acts like a smug douchebag.
Yet the reader is supposed to see Noah as a paragon of virtue.
Never had to repent?
In order to repent, a person must have genuine remorse for their actions. It also requires accountability.
It doesn't entail a person rending their garments melodramatically until they are completely naked and then yelling at the top of their lungs. I'm looking at you, Noah Primeval.
As a matter of fact, the term “righteous” in the Old and New Testaments was not a mere description of a person who did good deeds and avoided bad deeds.
Maybe it is because the writers of the Old and New Testament know that good people are not perfect. They make mistakes and take ownership of their actions.
Righteousness was a Hebrew legal concept that meant, “right standing before God” as in a court of law.
Tumblr media
What makes me so fucking disgusted is that Godawa has no qualms with cherry picking things from different mythologies and whatever doesn’t suit his narrative is either discarded or depicted as being malevolent lies.
It carried the picture of two positions in a lawsuit, one “not in the right,” and the other, “in the right”
You mean a lawsuit involves two sides:  the prosecution and the defense?
Tumblr media
or “righteous” before God.
And this series doesn’t hesitate to jump on a soap box and shout at the top of their lungs.
It was primarily a relational term.
*Sigh*
What’s next?
Are we going to define the definition of is?
Not only that, but in both Testaments, the righteous man is the man who is said to “live by faith,” not by perfect good deeds (Hab. 2:4; Rom. 1:17).
Tumblr media
So righteousness does not mean “moral perfection” but “being in the right with God because of faith.”
In other words, ice is cold and fire is hot.
….
This is leading up to rant filled with gratuitous Bible citations.
Tumblr media
What’s more, being a man of faith doesn’t mean a life of perfect consistency either.
You mean good people aren't perfect??? Thanks for notifying me Brian Godawa!
Look at David, the “man after God’s own heart” (Acts 13:22), yet he was a murderer and adulterer and more than once avoided obeying God’s will. But that doesn’t stop him from being declared as “doing all God’s will” by the apostle Paul.
At risk of sounding like a broken record, good people are not perfect.
Which is why repeating the obvious makes a person look like a blithering moron.
Or consider Abraham, the father of the Faith, who along with Sarah believed that God would provide them with a son (Heb. 11:8-11).
What does this have to do with anything? Is Godawa trying to dazzle the reader with how many Bible verses he can quote?
Yet, that Biblically honored faith was not perfect, as they both laughed in derision at God’s promise at first (Gen. 17:17; 18:12).
I guess Godawa never heard of a thing called context.
According to the Zohar, Sarah laughed because her son would have a feminine soul.
The Zohar also states that a soul from the "feminine world" cannot have children.
Sarah knew this and laughed because this contradicted God's promise to continue Abraham's bloodline.
God had to remind Sarah that He has the power to do anything. Which means He can turn a feminine soul into a masculine one.
And because Godawa loves to scripture drop, he cites additional examples from the Bible when people either argued or complained to God.
The very name Israel means “to struggle with God.”
I normally don't split hairs but considering the fact that the author fancies himself to be a scholar…
The word Israel means "God contends".
An alternate translation is "He Retains God"or "God Is Upright".
All the heroes in the Hebrews Hall of Faith (Heb. 11) had sinful moments, lapses of obedience and even periods of running from God’s call or struggling with their Creator.
According to the NIV translation, it commended the people for having a strong faith in God and how that faith allowed them to do what it is just. It does not give blow-blow descriptions of their spiritual struggles or a detailed accounting of all of their sins.
Now that I'm thinking about it… I have a sneaking suspicion that this is leading up to Godawa justifying his depiction of Noah.
Tumblr media
It would not be heresy to suggest that Noah may have had his own journey with God
Well, duh.
Noah's spiritual journey would have started with baby steps.
It is not like Noah would be chummy with God the very second he was born. A relationship with God is developed during a lifetime.
that began in fear and ended in faith.
Tumblr media
That's assuming that every person that started a relationship with God that said relationship was founded on distrust (which is fueled by fear) or the case of Noah Primeval, built on a foundation that is a passive-aggressive hate boner for the Almighty.
For some individuals, their spiritual journey never originated from animosity or distain because they always had faith.
In fact, to say otherwise is to present a life inconsistent with the reality of every human being in history.
Tumblr media
I'll say it again.
Every person's spiritual journey with God is different.
To insist that every person's relationship with God originated from negative emotions is not based in reality.
To say one is a righteous person of faith is to say that the completed picture of his life is one of finishing the race set before him, not of having a perfect run without injuries or failures.
Tumblr media
It is time for a writing exercise! Let’s take this wordy sentence and make it concise.
I'll go first.
The completed picture of a righteous person’s life is not a perfect run without injuries or failures but rather they finished the race set before them.
Now that I'm thinking about it …
This verbose sentence sounds like something that belongs in a fortune cookie.
Also, I find it odd that this little nugget of wisdom uses the gender neutral phrase “righteous person of faith” but then uses his | him pronouns.
Why am I getting the feeling that this is a subtle message that only a man can be a "righteous person of faith"?
Some scholars have even noted that the phrase “blameless in his generation” is an unusual one,
“They also think it is peculiar that the Flood lasted for forty days and nights. Why not eighteen or twenty-five? Is forty God’s favorite number or did He just pick it randomly?”
reserved for unblemished sacrifices in the temple.
Wait a minute.
So these scholars are stating that the phrase "blameless in his generation" is only used for animal sacrifices.
Which means Noah is likened to an animal sacrifice…
Tumblr media
Which is totally different from Noah Primeval's depiction of Noah as a macho and virile warrior who is the Chosen One.
Also, it is really dodgy when someone only gives some citations or doesn't provide any.
This physical purity
The words "physical purity" just sent shivers down my spine.
Because when words like that casually enter into a conversation, it is not long before an argument is made in favor of eugenics.
takes on new meaning when understood in the genetic context of the verses
"Genetic context"?
I didn't know that words had DNA.
Flippant comment aside, all this talk of "physical purity" and "genetic context" prompted me to do a quick Google search of the following:  Noah blameless in his generation animal and it  brought up a thread asking if Genesis 6:9 is referring to Noah's genetic purity.
before it that speak of “Sons of God” or bene ha elohim leaving their proper abode in heaven and violating the separation of angelic and human flesh (Gen. 6:1-4; Jude 5-7).
Um…
This is sort of correct.
Genesis 6:7-4 is about the Sons of God marrying beautiful human women and having children called Nephilim. Yet it also states that humans will live to be 120.
While Jude 5-7, the writer reminds the reader that God delivered his people out of Egypt and destroyed the non-believers. They also said that the angels who "did not keep their positions of authority but abandoned their proper dwelling" along with the sinful people of Sodom and Gomorrah will be punished by "eternal fire."
Within church history,
Tumblr media
The concept of the Grigori and Nephilim originated in Jewish folklore and legends.
At some point, early Christians either stumbled across an old scroll discussing these ideas or simply heard about it. They probably found the whole story to be fascinating and proceeded to write their own interpretations.
there is a venerable tradition of interpreting this strangest of Bible passages as referring to supernatural beings from God’s heavenly host who mate with humans resulting in the giant offspring called Nephilim.
The idea that some angels came down from Heaven to mate with humans doesn't sound bizarre to me.
Frankly, the Book of Revelation reads like John was on a big acid trip.
Other equally respectable theologians argue that these Sons of God were either humans from the “righteous” bloodline of Seth or a symbolic reference to human kings or judges of some kind.
Again, Christians didn't come with these alternate explanations. For instance, Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai strongly opposed the idea that the "benei elokim" were angels.
I have weighed in on the supernatural interpretation
That is a weird way of saying "I have decided to write a novel that depicts the Grigori as angels."
According to the Collins dictionary,  the words "weighed in", means:
give an opinion or enter a discussion or argument
to measure how heavy someone is, esp. before a competition
It is important to note that The Free Dictionary  and the Oxford Learner's Dictionaries has these definitions but with slightly different wording.
In conclusion?
Tumblr media
and have provided appendices at the end of the book that give the Biblical theological foundation for this interpretation.
Tumblr media
Only a filthy peasant has opinions.
An enlightened individual only believes in facts and since they are benevolent, they are imparting their wisdom to others.
This novel seeks to remain true to the sparse facts presented in Genesis (with admittedly significant embellishments)
“Admittedly significant embellishments”?
That’s putting it mildly.
More like “being preachy but insisting that you are only telling people facts.”
interwoven with theological images and metaphors come to life.
Tumblr media
I’m sorry but I can’t take this statement seriously.
Because it reminds me of a scene in the movie The Ref when Gus is talking about how “a complex web of complications need to be weaved and woven into a quilt of some kind.”
Where I engage in flights of fancy,
That’s putting it mildly.
This story never put its feet on the ground.
such as a journey into Sheol,
Pray tell, what is Sheol?
An explanation would be nice because for all we know, Sheol is the name of a cave or a forest.
I seek to use figurative imagery from the Bible, such as “a bed of maggots and worms” (Isa. 14:11) and “the appetite of Sheol” (Isa. 5:14)  and bring them to life by literalizing them into the flesh-eating living-dead animated by maggots and worms.
Let’s break this down, shall we?
Isaiah 5:14 ESV says this:
Therefore Sheol has enlarged its appetite
and opened its mouth beyond measure,
and the nobility of Jerusalem[h] and her multitude will go down,
Isaiah 5 is about the people of Israel who will be punished for their sins. This specific passage is discussing how the sinners are going to die.
Isaiah 14:11 ESV says this:
Your pomp is brought down to Sheol,
   the sound of your harps;
maggots are laid as a bed beneath you,
   and worms are your covers.
Isaiah 14 discusses how Babylon will be destroyed by God.  This specific passage is about how the haughty King of Babylon will perish.
It still doesn’t answer the question of what Sheol is.
If we are still looking at the Bible for an explanation, the NIV translation of Isaiah 5:14 states:
Therefore Death expands its jaws,  opening wide its mouth;
Also, the New International version of Isaiah 14 doesn’t use the word Sheol.
Instead,  it uses the words to the grave.
Based on these translations, one can make the assumption that Sheol is the word for death or grave.
However,  Sheol is a place where the souls of the dead reside.
Let's take a look at this line more closely:
bring them to life by literalizing them into the flesh-eating living-dead animated by maggots and worms.
The Bible having figurative imagery? That is not a groundbreaking revelation. Plenty of Bible scholars have written papers and or books analyzing this.
Figurative language is not supposed to be taken literally. It is used by a writer to convey an idea (example: time is a thief) or to paint a picture in a reader's mind (example: the flowers danced in the wind.)
To take something figurative and make it literal is asinine.
Also, "flesh-eating living-dead"?
I guess the word "zombie" is too plebeian.
Another player that shows up in the story is Leviathan.
“Another player”?
I bethink he is a pretentious rampallian who thinkest by using an antediluvian word maketh him intelligent and literary sir.
“Player” is an old fashioned word for actor.
It DOES NOT mean character.
So in conclusion:
Tumblr media
While I have provided another appendix explaining the theological motif of Leviathan
Translation?
“Behold my dizzying intellect!”
as a metaphor in the Bible for chaos and disorder, I have embodied the sea dragon in this story for the purpose of incarnating that chaos as well.
One word:
Tumblr media
I have also literalized the Mesopotamian cosmology of a three-tiered universe with a solid vault in the heavens, and a flat disc earth supported on the pillars of the underworld, the realm of the dead.
Thanks to Brian Godawa, the words "metaphor" and "literalized" annoy me.
I'd hate to rain on your parade but Mesopotamian mythology isn't the only one who had a three-tiered universe.
Below is an image of the Hebrew cosmology:
Tumblr media
It also has an universe that has three levels: heaven, earth, and the underworld. The earth is a flat disc floating on water with heaven above it and the underworld below it.
If one takes a second look at the picture, you will notice that there are pillars or the foundation of the earth.
In conclusion, Mesopotamian mythology isn't the only one to depict a universe as being composed of three levels.
This appears to be the model assumed by the Biblical writers in many locations (Phil. 2:10; Job 22:14; 37:18; Psa. 104:5; 148:4; Isa. 40:22),
Tumblr media
Jewish people have their own culture. They would not be using Mesopotamian mythology as their yardstick.
so I thought it would be fascinating to tell that story within that worldview unknown to most modern westerners.
You mean a different concept or an idea can be interesting? What a mind boggling revelation!
If I didn't know any better, I’d believe Godawa when he said telling a story from another culture’s point of view would be “fascinating.”
Yet it is painfully obvious that if something doesn't conform to his beliefs, it must be a vile falsehood created by malevolent beings.
The purpose of the Bible is not to support scientific theories or models of the universe,
Actually, the Big Bang Theory does not conflict with the story of creation.
but to tell the story of God through ancient writers. Those writers were people of their times just as we are.
Which is why the absence of Jewish culture is jarring.
Especially since all the "good" characters are Calvinists.
I have also woven together Sumerian and other Mesopotamian mythology in with the Biblical story,
It is randomly inserted  (ex: Pazuz) or the deities are evil fallen angels who are destroying Family Values™ and Corrupting the Children™.
but with this caveat:
"Anything that doesn't conform to my worldviews must be the lies devised by Satan."
Like C.S. Lewis,
Did he compare himself to C.S. Lewis?
….
……….
…………………….
Tumblr media
It is like trying to compare M. Night Shyamalan to Alfred Hitchcock.
Even though one is a hack while the other one is a talented creator.
I believe the primary purpose of mythology is to embody the worldview and values of a culture.
Aside from helping people to understand the world around them and giving them answers to timeless questions such as: Is there life after death? Why does evil exist?
Mythology also provides a form of entertainment and ensures that certain traditions survive.
But all myths carry slivers of the truth and reflect some distorted vision of what really happened.
Tumblr media
This reeks of ethnocentrism!
Sumer’s Noah was Ziusudra, Babylon’s Noah was Utnapishtim, and Akkad’s was Atrahasis. The Bible’s Noah is my standard.
Tumblr media
I'll bring this up if anyone tries to claim that Noah Primeval isn't preachy and ethnocentric.
So my goal was to incorporate real examples of ANE history and myth in subjection to that standard in such a way that we see their “true origin.”
....
You know what?
If someone wrote a Wiccan based fantasy series that demonized Christianity, he would be outraged.
Godawa reiterates his "speculation" that the deities were fallen angels with superhuman abilities that once belonged to God's divine council.
See the appendix at the back for my defense of this interpretation from the Bible.
Tumblr media
I'm not in the mood to read a lengthy appendix that reads like you giving yourself a giant pat on the back. Perhaps that will be a future snark.
Lastly, I have permitted myself to use extra-Biblical Jewish literature from the Second Temple period as additional reference material for my story.
In other words...
He gave himself permission to steal and vandalize a different culture. Isn't that charming?
I use these ancient Jewish sources
I bet many people wished you hadn't.
not because I consider them completely factual or on par with the Bible,
"They are complete heresy. Instead, believe in the teachings of John Calvin."
but simply in an attempt to incarnate the soul of the ancient Hebrew imagination in conversation with the text of Scripture
Like the Yeti, the Hebrew imagination has yet to be found.
rather than imposing my own modern western one upon the text.
...
............
............................
Tumblr media
I am within the tradition of the Church on this since authors of the New Testament as well as early Church Fathers
Just "Church Fathers"?
Tumblr media
Christianity also had Church Mothers.
To name a few: Mary Magdalene, Phoebe, Junia, Lydia, Eudia, Thecla, Syntyche, and Prisca.
and other orthodox theologians in church history respected some of these ancient manuscripts as well.
While the author did the opposite.
Many of these texts from the Second Temple Period, such as Jubilees, Testaments of the Twelve Patriarchs or The Life of Adam and Eve, and others found in the Pseudepigrapha, were creative extrapolations of the Biblical text.
I guess the word of the day is "extrapolations".
Extrapolation is defined as "to predict by projecting past experience or known data" or " to infer from values within an already observed interval."
I find it rather disgusting to imply that the Midrash is a product of guesswork or estimates.
Which means whatever the author's personal beliefs are founded in facts.
Tumblr media
These were not intended to deceive or overturn the Bible,
Notice the word "intended".
It infers that the writers weren't deliberately telling lies.
It just happens that they were spreading falsehoods.
but rather to retell Biblical stories with theological amplification and creative speculation
Tumblr media
You see, humans are a curious species. We don't like unanswered questions.
Therefore, we come up with a possible answer or an explanation for a particular event.
The purpose of the Midrash is to provide explanations or to give a story details.
Ever wondered who was Cain's wife? According to Book of Jubilees, she was Cain's sister and her name is Awan.
while remaining true to their interpretation of the Scriptures.
Tumblr media
They weren't providing interpretations to Mesopotamian mythology.
In short, I am not writing Scripture.
Normally, I would believe this.
But subsequent interviews and podcasts along with the preachy messages written in the story belies this statement.
I am not even saying that I believe this is how the story might have actually happened.
Remember when I said to keep something in mind because it will be significant later on?
Well, now it is important.
This statement and the words "Inspired by True Events" are contradictory.
I am simply engaging in a time-honored tradition of the ancient Hebrew culture:
No, no, no!
Do not pass go. Do not collect $200!
I am retelling a Biblical story in a new way to underscore the theological truths within it.
Tumblr media
Godawa only wants to associate with ancient Hebrew culture when it elevates him as a writer and  his stories.
From his remarks, it is obvious that he regards the Midrashes as being subpar bodies of work that will mislead undiscerning readers.
That being said, that won't stop him using such texts in order to receive praise for his "creativity" and be commended  in scholarly circles for using Jewish texts.
This mentality is similar to Rick Riordan's.
In case anyone doesn't know...
Rick Riordan is best known for writing the Percy Jackson series which retold Greek mythology. He then wrote a series based on Norse mythology called Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard.
Both series were a hit and he greatly profited from these stories.
After sometime, Riordan made the following statements:
“I didn’t realize some people still worship the old Viking gods. Very strange, and a little scary…In my opinion, the more you learn about the mythology, the more impossible it is to take it seriously as a religion… after you’ve met Odin and Thor in the stories, who in their right mind would ever want to worship them?”
" I love Greek myths, but why anyone would want to worship the Greek pantheon is beyond me. "
"It’s strange to think anyone would still worship the Olympians seriously."
Early in the book, the character Chiron draws a clear distinction between God, capital-G, the creator of the universe, and the Greek gods (lower-case g). Chiron says he does not wish to delve into the metaphysical issue of God, but he has no qualms about discussing the Olympians because they are a “much smaller matter.”
Unsurprisingly, this offended many polytheists.
You might be wondering: what's my point?
To put it simply? Both writers profited from incorporating different mythologies into their stories.
One writer made disparaging remarks about individuals who believe in these deities after becoming a best selling author.
While the other barely concealed their disdain for the source material they used that garnered their popularity and praise from critics.
In conclusion?
Don't build your career on writing stories using different mythologies and deride the believers of said mythos or the very thing that puts money in your bank account.
Then wonder why some people think you are a horse's ass.
The Biblical theology that this story is founded upon is provided in several appendixes at the back of the book for those who are interested in going deeper.
First of all..
Stop peddling your friggin' appendixes.
We get it.
It has citations.
Which means it is supposed to be scholarly...
Therefore... It is deep and elevated literature.
The beauty of fiction
Um, no.
It is not all beautiful.
It can also be bland or terrible.
And in some cases, it is deeply disturbing.
is that we can make assumptions regarding uncertain theological and historical information
Yes, you can.
Up to a point.
The moment when you insist theses assumptions or personal beliefs are based in fact...
Writers like Philippa Gregory and Brian Godawa are born.
without having to prove them one way or another.
You know what also doesn't require proof?
Faith.
The story requires only that we establish continuity within the made up world,
Tumblr media
It is called the suspension of disbelief.
and accepting those assumptions for the sake of the story does not imply theological agreement.
Normally, yes.
But this series makes it abundantly clear that if you don't agree with the political and theological beliefs...
At best, you are country pumpkin. (Yes, he does equate them to being stupider than Ana Steele.)
At worst, you are not only a moron but a depraved degenerate as well.
So, sit back and
Reach for the booze because you are going to need it. Also, make sure that the vomit bucket is in front of you.
let your imagination explore the contours of this re-imagined journey
And before long, wishing that you never did and longing to depart for the Undying Lands.
of one of the most celebrated religious heroes across all times and cultures.
And by the end, you want:
To repeatedly punch the "good" characters in the throat and stab them in the groin. Especially Noah.
The villains to shut up and fuck off. Because they are what a thirteen years old boy would think is edgy.  Especially if said boy was also a Bible thumper.
