pete on the tuna for toast podcast 3.2.23
link
he tries to play golf once a week.
pete and the host talk about golf for a bit (they lost me here)
talks about the album title: "the parentheses being around the "for"- there is a little bit of "so much stardust"- i think about it in the way like- and it's like the dumbest thing, but everybody is stardust- everyone's these different molecules and carbon, former stars, and i think about that when i think about how different everybody on the planet is. we're all kind of the same still. and there's some relief in that."
pete: "love from the other side going number one after 17 years of our first appearance on the chart is like, the most fall out boy way to do it of all time. couldn't have done it way more than the way we did do it."
pete mostly writes lyrics on paper and on the notes app. sometimes if he's driving he'll have whoever's the passenger write it down for him. he doesn't do voice notes because he doesn't "think in those terms".
when they were writing smfsd, they had friends telling them that they should just release swgd 2.0, that it was the perfect time for it, but pete thought that was wrong and that it was "exactly not the time for it". he didn't want to do a retread, and he feels that when artists try to recapture the early magic it's just not possible. he thinks about when fob/mcr/patd first got big, green day felt like the position fob is in now, how GD had been a band for 20 years and they made a record that pete felt was adjacent to what they were doing & reminded people why green day was so big & why they loved them, and thats what they were channelling during the writing of lftos/smfsd- how it can be adjacent to all the stuff that's happening, but it shouldnt be a retread and it shouldnt be chasing what is happening right now
pete's been watching the last of us :)
"with srar and mania, we were just surviving! there was a pop culture landscape not super friendly to bands [...] and now this is a chance where everything's cyclical, and we have a chance to lean in to being the band we were in a futuristic way."
talks about the early days of fob and how their dreams were always "one size too big" and how pete always has that and it "drives patrick a little crazy" but they "fuel each other in that regard"
interviewer: "is it healthy to still have that state of mind [despite fob's achievements and success]?" pete: "hmmm... what would my therapist say..........." girl..
pete's been trying to enjoy the journey more: "[the band] has been hanging out way more than we [used to], we've been going out to dinner, exploring cities together and i think it helped this record."
patrick doesnt live in LA anymore!
"this is the first record in a while that we were in the same room together, we hashed things out, we passed notebooks back and forth. [...] we're a band where we get into it with each other but we're also siloed off from each other, this was the first time in a while where there was no silos"
"any feelings of doing a throwback is a little stomach-churning for me" so true pete
pete retells the panic origin story of ryan making fun of fob lol
talks about taking panic under their wing and how there were only a couple of bands that took fob under their wing when they first started like less than jake and punchline, and how he always liked the spirit of that.. talks about the communal spirit & culture surrounding hiphop music: "why couldnt we do that?"
"to me, [decaydance] was like seinfeld, like, you never knew who was going to show up at the apartment on seinfeld- they all lived in the same building... and i always thought 'why couldn't there be a record label like that?'" that tweet thats like. why gabe saporta da bus driver 😭

What do you think the master detectives music tastes are? I see Yuma listening to pop rock but what do you think? (You can include the train detectives if you want lol)
HMMMM GOOD QUESTION!!!
yuma: doesn't really know music well enough to be picky. every now and again a song will play on the radio and he'll say "oh this is a nice song" and desuhiko or whoever will groan and say "REALLY? this is the most generic vanilla pop song ever" and yuma will say "i dunno... i thought it was pretty good" ...he doesn't like explicit lyrics though.
desuhiko: keeps up with the latest coolest pop hits and is always trying to learn the choreography. it doesn't count as a good song if it doesn't have choreography! he likes boy bands and girl groups and uplifting power anthems.
fubuki: she knows the tunes to classic hits but somehow it's always the wrong lyrics. one day yakou puts on lola by the kinks and she sings along very loudly to "Y-O-D-A YODAAAAA" how she learned it we'll never know but she always sings from the heart.
halara: claims to dislike music, especially music with singing because the lyrics are distracting. smooth jazz is passable as background music... techno is okay sometimes... the embarrassing truth is their favorite songs are funny little songs about kitty cats. or songs that have been featured in popular pet video memes.
vivia: similar to his tastes in books, he doesn't actually prefer any specific genre of music as long as the lyrics are interesting. it's like poetry with a melody... he loves songs that tell stories - or even better, whole albums. but most of the time it's easier to read the stories (visual learner feels)... so he's also just content to listen to whatever someone else puts on.
yakou: is not a master detective but I'M ANSWERING FOR HIM ANYWAY #1 DAD ROCK LIKER. he gets mad when desuhiko calls his music taste "butt rock." to his chagrin, halara was able to pinpoint his exact age based on his favorite classic albums ("b-but i thought you didn't even like music!!!" "i don't have to like something to gather information about it.") he's not great at singing or dancing so he only does so when he thinks he's alone. yuma has caught him in the act before. (vivia also has but will never tell a soul.)
....i will have to think about the train crew some more bc other than pucci liking classical music (based) i'm not really sure... feel free to drop ideas in the replies. or drop examples of songs you think anyone would like haha

AN: the Met Gala chapter was annoying me so I scrapped it and did one based on his interview with Angie Martinez
Requested? No
Warnings: out of pocket paparazzi, but other than that it's mostly fluff aka Jack gushing about Miriam and how he can't believe he bagged her
Word Count:
Tumblr media
"You always have white stuff spilling out of your mouth, Miriam." Jack teased Miriam as she finished the last of her tiramisu.
"Oh shush." She mumbled, scooping up the last bit of the mascarpone whipped cream.
They were in New York enjoying a lowkey dinner at an Italian restaurant before heading out to a Rangers game. Miriam had some scenes from the movie she was filming there because her character and Rudy Pankow's character had met in NYU. Jack was there to do some interviews to promote his album that was coming out that weekend.
Their phones simultaneously went off. Miriam leaned to an empty chair where she put her jacket and pulled out her phone. It was a text from Beto, who was outside with Jack's bodyguard, saying that there was paparazzi outside the restaurant.
Since the news broke out about the two of them dating, surprisingly, they haven't been papped together. The closest they've gotten to being sighted was from a fan posting a recording them from a distance with the location hours later. They both hated dealing with paparazzi. Mostly because they always got the most out of pocket shit asked.
She heard Jack curse as she replied to Beto.
"Did–"
"Yeah." He nodded, knowing she was gonna ask him if knew about the paps. "There's no back street is there?"
"No." Miriam shook her head.
"Fuck," he sighed. He ran a hand over his curls. "Let's just go, the longer we wait, the more time we give them."
Miriam nodded, motioning their server to bring over the check. They came by and set the check on the table. Jack smacked Miriam's hand away before she could grab for it. He reached for his wallet, pulling out a few bills and slipped them in the folder. They grabbed their things and made their way to the entrance.
"So my dress is kinda short, could you use my jacket as a shield when I get in the car?" Miriam asked. She wore a cream Vivienne Westwood corseted, knit mini dress. She paired the dress with her ACNE Studios chocolate brown leather jacket with brown shearling inside and matching Stuart Weitzman leather platform boots.
"Yeah, we can't have people seeing our goods." He said, taking the jacket.
"Our?" She asked.
"I said what I said."
The hostess thanked them for dining at the restaurant as they exited. Miriam looked down, hiding her face with her curls, and quickly climbed in the SUV. Jack followed closely behind her, covering her so they wouldn’t get a glimpse of her ass.
"C'mon Jack don't be greedy, let us see her ass." Someone yelled as he climbed in.
One thing Jack won't let slide was someone objectifying Miriam, especially in front of him. But Beto closed the door before he could pop out and curse out whoever said that. He sat next to her angry at himself for not defending her.
"Jack, I'm sorry." She said quietly. She felt guilty. Had she worn something less revealing, then the person wouldn't have yelled that at Jack and he wouldn't be mad.
"Miriam, you didn't do anything wrong." He said in a reassuring tone. "And don't try to justify it. You were simply existing and some creep yelled that shit unprovoked. Okay?"
"Yeah," she nodded.
It was comforting that Jack told her that. Miriam's past partners have always said the opposite and made it seem like it was her fault whenever she'd get catcalled. It didn't matter if it was a college party or just in the streets, they always pinned it on her and what she wore. She felt very fortunate to have Jack. Words can't describe how safe he makes her feel.
"I love you." She found herself telling him.
It caught Jack off guard, but he didn't waste a second to say it back.
The drive to Madison Square Garden wasn't long. Delta hooked up Jack with some VIP tickets and they came with access to a different entrance from those that had general admission tickets. They followed an usher that brought them to the Delta lounge. There they explained all the amenities that came with their tickets and how they could stay in the lounge and watch the game from there or they could get escorted down to the rink. Jack and Miriam agreed that they would rather watch the game in the rink. They were also given custom jerseys with their names on the back and letterman jackets.
They made a pit stop at concessions. Miriam wanted a pretzel and a drink. Jack also got some water and popcorn for himself. They thanked the security who escorted them to their seats.
Miriam took a picture of the rink for her Instagram Stories, adding 'Elle Kennedy prepared me for this.'
"Who's Elle Kennedy?" Jack asked her, reading over her shoulder.
"She's an author who wrote like two hockey series, so all my knowledge on hockey is coming from that" She said.
"Damn, I don't know shit either." He said.
"Your mom told me you dated the captain of your high school's hockey team." She furrowed her eyebrows in confusion.
"She played field hockey and we never discussed it because we mostly spent our time in the back of her mom's minivan." He said coyly.
"A simple 'she played field hockey' would have been a fine response."
During warmups Jack and Miriam were shown on the jumbotron along with other celebrities. Miriam was shown first. “Here we have Miriam Dominguez, fashion icon and actress. She is known for her roles in ‘In the Heights' and ‘What We Saw’. Her movie ‘The Lies We Vow To’ that she’s starring alongside Oscar Isaac, comes out June 18th, but will be shown at Cannes later this month.” The announcer said with her verse on ‘96,000’ from ‘In the Heights’ playing in the background.
The jumbotron panned out to her. She gave them a shy smile and turned so that Jack could get full attention as the announcer listed all his accomplishments and how his album was dropping that week. She smiled as he took in the cameras. He was in his own world, dancing along to Nail Tech as it played.
The couple was in their own little world laughing and talking while watching the game. Miriam’s whole body was turned to Jack. She held onto his arm while his hand rested on her thigh. Suddenly cheers and whistles filled the arena, making the couple look up at the jumbotron.
Cameras were pointed at them for the kiss cam, they ruined their moment. Miriam pulled away and sat straight. Jack waved at the kiss cam to move away from them. It moved onto another couple who happily took in the cameras.
During one of the breaks, Jack and Miriam went back to the VIP lounge to watch the last of the game so they could avoid the crowd when it ended. Miriam excused herself to use the restroom, leaving Jack to entertain himself. He saw a post of him and Miriam waiting in line at concessions on Twitter. The tweet itself made him snort when he read it: “Why is Miriam always eating up Jack with her outfits?” He decided to retweet it with, “that’s because i’m always eating her out 🤝🏻 balance”.
***
The following morning Miriam flew out to LA while Jack stayed back in New York. They were going to meet in Louisville for the Derby. Jack still had to do some radio interviews. Luckily he was at his last interview with Angie Martinez.
"This is the type of shit that would make a girlfriend jealous." Angie pointed out as she and Jack discussed how he's a friendly person by nature but people take it as him being flirty. "Wait, you do have a girlfriend, right?"
Jack felt his cheeks warm up. He scratched the back of his neck. "Yeah, I'm spoken for." He smiled shyly.
"Can I ask about you guys?" The radio host asked.
"You can ask, but…" he trailed off.
"We'll see if I get an answer." She finished for him
"Exactly." He nodded, making her laugh.
"I'm just curious how you two met." She continued.
"Because Miriam is way out of my league?" He asked, in a playful tone.
"It's not even about that. It's just that you've been seen, associated with a range of women that no one really knew the type of woman you'd go for."
"I mean I like all women. But I gravitate towards women with confidence; someone who's smart that can carry a conversation with me without it feeling forced. I really like sweethearts and not the type that infantilize themselves to seem innocent. I don't like any jerky or toxic energy. Miriam has all those qualities and more. We balance and compliment each other really well. She is that person who's pretty closed off until she lets you get to know her. Then you see her personality shine through."
Angie stayed quiet, trying to figure out her response but Jack continued. "To answer your initial question, we met last January at a soccer game in LA. Her dad is one of my favorite soccer players growing up, still is. He's a phenomenal athlete. That day LA Galaxy was playing Chelsea, my favorite team and the team her dad played for, and they happened to be sitting in the same section as I was. I made conversation with Miriam because her dad went to meet up with friends, but we stayed behind. That same night a friend of a friend was hosting some dinner and invited me. She was there with her sister. We talked some more there then I slid in her dms as a friend."
"How do you slide in someone's dms as a friend?" She asked him.
"I can't reveal too much about that. Just know, what I did worked." He said coyly.
"I'm assuming, you guys have been together for a few months." She said.
Jack nodded. "It'll be a year in July."
"Oh wow, I was thinking it was brand new."
"Nah, we've been together for a while."
"How were you able to keep your relationship hidden for so long?"
"We didn't keep our relationship hidden, we kept it private." He corrected her. "We told those who we want to know and who we trusted to respect our relationship and our privacy. Honestly, I could have just told you 'yes I'm dating someone' and moved on when you asked me. But I trust you, I trust that you won't manipulate what I tell you about me and my partner to make it seem that my relationship with her is something completely different from what I told you. You know."
"From the bottom of my heart I really appreciate that. I hope that I didn't cross any boundaries." She told him sincerely.
From there they talked some more about the singles of his album, how he featured Young Miami in the Nail Tech music video, briefly mentioning Miriam's unplanned cameo. They discussed his trip to Turks and Caicos with Drake then veered off to the album's features and how Jack was able to bring them to the album.
"Are any of the songs in your new album about her?" Angie asked, cautiously.
Jack tilted from side to side, contemplating. He adjusted his mic wnf spoken into it. "She'll know if they are."

ANNN IT'S FRIDAY AND i am a sucker for linguistics so please from the sexual tension prompts: "[ LANGUAGE ] : sender begins to speak seductively and fluently with the receiver in another language." with whoever you want!!!!
Here's some modern!Thedas Zevran/Surana for @dadrunkwriting! I sort of played around with the prompt, but I hope this still fills the brief!
"If I wished to seduce you, Bran Surana, I would not use the Ferelden language to do it," Zevran declared airily with a toss of his head. Bran rolled his eyes and bent down to pick up another cardboard box full of paperbacks. Shelving was monotonous work. Easy work, really, though it was physically taxing. But Bran liked to take the time to pop in his earbuds, listen to music, and think as he worked. Of course, Zevran (annoyingly charming and persistent Zevran) dropped by to keep him company (what did the man even do for a living?), so the earbuds remained in a tangled knot in his apron pocket, and The Screeching Void's latest album remained unheard.
If it had been someone else Bran might have been annoyed. But this was Zevran, and Zevran was different in ways Bran couldn't quite quantify yet. Unknown factors. Solve for 'X.' Show your work. Zevran ought to have been annoying. He was an incorrigible flirt who dropped into his life for the sole purpose of confusing Bran. He was glamorous and intimidating and impossible to explain, but Zevran would drink Morrigan's dreadful coffee and endure her nastiest glares just to spend time with him during his lunch break. And why him in the first place?
Probably because he was entertaining to annoy. Leliana told him his ears went cherry red when he was particularly incensed, and Zevran seemed to take great delight in teasing him. But sometimes, when they sat quietly and ate lunch, Bran would catch Zevran looking at him as if he was the greater mystery between them. But then he returned to his teasing, and Bran returned to rolling his eyes in turn.
"Nothing wrong with how us Ferelden's talk," Bran finally said, and if he deliberately leaned into his own Bannorn accent even harder... well, Zevran wasn't the only one who was capable of teasing.
"It's flat," Zevran retorted. "No drama, no flair! A dull drone from beginning to end."
"Rude," Bran replied. "If you really were trying to seduce me with those pastries you've failed spectacularly by insulting my language." Not that he was insulted, really, but when he had the opportunity to unsettle Zevran he had to take it. Turnabout was fair play, or so said Leliana.
"You have a pleasant manner of speech, my dear bookseller. Utterly charming. It suits you. But the language itself-" Zevran shuddered dramatically. "Truly. Orlesian is too flowery, but Antivan..."
"Antivan, of course," Bran rolled his eyes, and he reached down to pick another book out of the cardboard box. "Go on, then."
"Oh?" Though he couldn't see Zevran's expression, Bran heard the smile in that single, short exclamation. Bran snorted and placed the book on the shelf.
"Seduce me in Antivan, if you're so certain it will work," Bran ordered. "Though you are working at a disadvantage, my knowledge of the language is slim-"
Zevran's hand joined his, wrapping around the spine of the book. Zevran's pinkie softly touched Bran's index finger before he retreated. Bran glanced over at Zevran, who looked at him with a solemn expression in his amber brown eyes.
He spoke, the words almost musical, and Bran tried to pick out at least one word he recognized- there was a "you" in there, and something that might have been... flower? But it was less the words he said and more the earnestness in Zevran's face, the gentle timbre of his voice, the rise and fall of the way he spoke- Bran flushed and shoved the book into its place on the shelf.
"That's... effective," Bran grumbled. "I'll give you that. What... what were you saying?"
"Hmm," Zevran hummed, the mischevous light returning to his eyes as he let the silence hang between them. "Perhaps you should learn Antivan instead. It doesn't work as well in your tongue." With a cheeky grin on his face Zevran stepped back and held the pastry he had bought out to Bran.
"I believe I won our little game, my dear bookseller, but I am ever gracious in victory," he teased. "A consolation prize?"
"... fine. Just this once," Bran muttered, his face hot and his mind whirling- Zevran and his unknown factors only kept growing every day. Bran made a note to find a language learning book (maybe even an app) after his shift.
(Author's Note: Zevran quoted Pablo Neruda ("Quiero hacer contigo lo que la primavera hace con lose cerezos." or "I want to do to you what spring does with cherry trees."). Bran would be rather baffled by his choice once he figures out the quote.)

Seamless song splices, starring: Horton Hears A Who, and Prince of Egypt
Because if there's one thing I can't stand, it's random pops, clicks, and stutters between my music tracks, and after downloading and listening to at least five different releases of these albums to find that a whole entire none of them were actually seamless, I took it upon myself to do some quick(ish) audio editing. Here are the fruits of my labors!
I'll start with Horton Hears A Who, because John Powell is a musical superwizard and it is a Fucking Crime what they did to his work. (Seriously, look at this shit. That is the actual official soundtrack. Who approved this and where do I go to slap them?)
First, what I've titled as Opening Suite, which includes 'Fall From Tree', 'Cave of Destiny', and 'Jungle of Nool'. Because for some reason, as you can see from the soundtrack listing, whoever put the album together thought that splitting a two and a half minute song into three separate tiny chunks was a good idea. Now, I think we can all agree that they were abhorrently wrong, but rest assured that I have taken the time to correct that wrong.
Speaking of (far more horrific) wrongs, they also decided to chop this epic climactic masterpiece into four pieces! I have courteously rectified their music crimes, and titled the result as 'We Are Here!', given the whole story's theme and all (not to mention how those are the only words in the entire piece). This song includes 'Roping and Caging', 'We Are Here', 'Symphonophone', and 'Jojo Saves The Day'.
A similar wrong comes next, although it's at least somewhat more reasonable this time around. I've titled it A Big Ending, partially because it's the official title of the last of the three included songs, but also because...well, put all together, it is a really big ending. The first song is 'Hall of Mayors' (which briefly has How to Train Your Dragon vibes, in my opinion), while the middle and veritable bulk is taken up by 'Horton Suite' (i.e. the ending credits song - hence why it's so fucking long). 'Horton Suite' clocks in at nearly seven whole minutes, and is comprised of some very Suessical music that is worth every last second, and I don't care what anyone else says about that, I am Objectively Correct here.
With Horton Hears A Who out of the way, we come next to Prince of Egypt, which was similarly but at least less egregiously butchered. (Cuz I mean...at least 'Deliver Us' didn't get snipped up, right?)
First, Rally and The Plagues. I really only did this one because I wanted to listen to 'The Plagues', but hated how it didn't start cleanly. So, nothing much else to say about this one. Instead, I will take the time here to say that all four of the splices so far were easy-peasy - just a quick copy-paste and a cut of empty air between the waveforms of each file. The last one, though...
The last, and most important is When You Believe and The Red Sea, because 'When You Believe' just cuts off at the end, mid-note no less, which is clearly unacceptable to anyone with both ears and good taste. This splice...was significantly harder. It actively refused to splice clean in the same way as the prior works, up until I finally said 'fuck it', selected more than just empty air, made sure that the selection's ends were on the zero-crossing, and chopped away. BOOM. Clean splice, and - to my ear, at least - undetectable. I'm pretty pleased with it! If nothing else, I can finally listen to it without wincing at the very brief stutter between songs. (Granted, I'm not too jazzed about 'The Red Sea', but it does have some cool parts, and if nothing else, it ends nice and clean~)
Also, yes, I made those last two splices instead of sleeping, and then proceeded to make this post about all my audio editing nonsense instead of sleeping. Clearly, sharing the fruits of my labor is more important, both to me and hopefully to the other audiophiles out there who listened to these albums and also hated what was done to them. :)
(By the way, have a clean splice of 'The End.' and 'Dead!' by My Chemical Romance, too. Just for funzies.)
GOOD NIGHT!!!

on that post about music and your tag about most of it being tiktok appeal bites 🥶 💯
by default, i frown heavily at 2-minute songs (esp when its the majority of the length of songs on an album) like what the actual frick
as someone who is barely holding on, music has been one of like maybe 3 things i can think of that still makes me feel alive
i feel it's such a disgrace to have something called a 'song' when it's more appropriate to describe it as an interlude (1-min length) or short glimpses of a song (2-min trademark length that's so on trend now)
yes, i'm bitter and blue. but this makes me truly appreciate good music more than ever now
ーand when i say 'good music' i don't mean a specific genre because music is very personal and subjective to whoever enjoys it. what i do mean is when i feel the artist is making it themselves with a part of themselves and it means something to them and it means something to me for whatever reason
this is a super late reply, i’m so sorry!! life has been a little busy lately :/ but yeah, the tiktokification of pop music paired with the stream-appeal many artists go for nowadays (short songs so that people might put them on loop) is really something that is turning me off a lot of popular music (don’t get me wrong there are people i listen to that fall in this category but the categoryas a whole is very meh to me rn). i have always been a mainstream pop girlie, but lately i have been listening to so much more indie (pop) and alternative (including folky stuff) than whatever stuff they currently play on the radio. it doesn’t really appeal to me??? they’re fine to listen to but i’d never seek them out because they do Nothing for me. and i feel like that used to be different. maybe my taste changed idk. also not to be very lame but capitalism really will suck the lifeblood out of everything—including art.

BPP, Indigo is so majestic. I have no words. I all feels.
Joon did so so well. I want to give him the biggest hug.
Are you as emotional as well? I need like 7 business days to process Indigo.
What a privelege to listen to Joon's music.
*
Ask 2: Anonymous asked:
Hello bpp ! Can i request a album review for Indigo? I think it is getting very very good reviews even non armys love it !!! I love Wild flower, Closer and All day ! Namjoons lyrics hurt me but in a good way like releasing old feelings. Im very happy !
*
Ask 3: Anonymous asked:
BPP, did Indigo pass muster for you? 😊
*
Ask 4: Anonymous asked:
I'm the anon that asked about Indigo. Do you think BTS are overdoing it talking about their struggle with fame all the time? Like we get it it's hard but you guys are millionaires, You know what I mean BPP?
***
Hi @rantingravingliving and anons!
The first time I listened to Indigo I hated it. The album met my expectations, but like I said for Jack in the Box, it's not that the album took time to grow on me, it's that at first it felt too much like an album he had to put out. But I was wrong, emotional and silly. Indigo is way better than that. Indigo is the most polished album any of the BTS members have put out so far, which isn't surprising given Joon likely had more time to work on it than Hobi had for his (though how Joon recreated Wild Flower in practically no time after losing it all in 2021 is amazing). The way Joon highlights his collaborators on all the tracks makes the songs feel like duets rather than features - we have two reasons to love each song: Joon and whoever is on the track because they all kill it.
For lyrics and references for all the songs, please consider checking out Doolset's notes linked here. I agree with her most of the time about BTS's lyrical references, so consider everything I'm writing in this post incremental to her notes.
My favourite parts of some songs:
Yun: Joon channels Biggie in this song which is so fitting for a song that has Ms. Badu on it. The soundscape on Yun is luscious. And the lyrics? People, stop what you're doing now and read the English translation here. His cadence is reminiscent of Asheru's on the Boondocks theme at a slower tempo. Joon's mastery of this sound is so good I almost blacked out listening to it the first time. Oh, and Erykah Badu is a goddess. This is Quincy Jones lounge music at its finest.
youtube
*
Still Life: I'm a sucker for a prominent bass so the way the song starts is perfect. The beat change at 1:44 to 2:00 is so fucking sick. That "Oh shit" from Anderson at 2:05 was felt.
youtube
*
Forg_tful: I love Joon's voice and singing on this song. His vocals, the scarce processing on his vocals, the whistling, Kim Sawol, it all fits so well.
youtube
*
Closer: 90s/00s R&B and slow afrobeats perfection. That run at 1:42 is mental like are you crazy?
youtube
*
Change Pt 2: All that static is the perfect break for the flow of the album. Like, even its placement is perfect. The schizophrenic breakdown at 0:47 makes up for the almost boring sequence before it. And the magic that is 1:01 to 1:50 is a masterclass in storytelling.
youtube
*
Lonely: The fusion of mood pop and rock is kinda unexpected for Namjoon but now that we've heard him try it out, I think it's fair to say RM can absolutely pull off a mainstream cross-over.
youtube
*
Wild Flower: My friend sent me this comment: "He says Flower work instead of fire work because he doesn't want to be up among the stars and burn and be gone. He wants to be on the ground like a field of flowers, a flower work and be grounded, flourish, and last. Namjoon be deep in the feels jesus christ." Lol. Joon is a bit superstitious and you hear it in Wild Flower. But this is my shit. Youjeen's piercing bright voice contrasts Joon's perfectly. At timestamp 3:13 to 4:10 she completely steals the show. Like this is very much her song as well and it shows Joon's awareness in arranging music. He knows exactly what he is doing. Because no matter what you might think of him, Youjeen is too good to ignore.

I'd rate the whole album a 9/10. He didn't disappoint and this is why I'm seated. His style reminds me of Nas' songwriting, Common's too, and bit like Hov with almost no Ye.
About BTS/Namjoon talking about their fame or their struggle with it all the time, and it being old and overdone, I get what you mean. But like, what else do you expect them to talk about? They are seven men in their 20s from one of the most status-conscious countries in the world, from middle-class families at best, now some of the biggest stars in the world. BTS are Michael Jackson famous and I don't say that lightly. It's mad. Attention like that fucks everybody up. I doubt they're excessively doing drugs to cope and keep perspective, so they need an outlet. They will speak about their experiences and their desires and their fame will factor in at some point. The loss of that fame will also become a touch point in their music as they mature. Going to the military will completely reset their outlook and that too will be reflected in their songs. As they age, get married and have kids. As they lose relevancy for a sub-set of the current fandom. Expect to hear every member reference it at some point in their music. My two cents.

ALAMAT PAGSULONG ALBUM MADE ME CRAZY.
*Pardon my english*
So it's been 5 months since ALAMAT (a Filipino pop group) released their mini album called "PAGSULONG". quick background about ALAMAT, they are a 6-member boy group under the viva Artist agency from the Philippines. they consist of Taneo, Mo, Alas, Tomas, Rji and Jao.
This Pagsulong album just made me crazy as sht. Like bro, the songs, the beat, and the lyrics are all bop. Plus Alamat are getting better at anything. let me give you a little trip to their PAGSULONG album.
Disclaimer: these are all my opinion, please be kind and correct me if there's something wrong. Love yah <3
!. SAY YOU LOVE ME
For me, this song was a total vibe. it's an RnB, which is really rare to hear from a Ppop group and the lyrics is about questioning the love from your lover if they still like you or nah,
It gives the vibe : ako pa ba o may iba na? (is it still me or you like someone else already?)
Tumblr media
2. ILI ILI
This song is a gem. It talks about our beloved OFW (overseas Filipino Worker) who constantly sacrifice everything just to give what their love wants. Very touching and really made me miss my sister from abroad.
Tumblr media
3. Aswang
Okay, so my interpretation of this song is kinda weird. when I read the lyrics, it gives me the vibe : mahal kita kahit sino ka man(I like you whoever you are) . The song is really catchy though, I'm still singing it till now.
Tumblr media
4. Maharani
I think this is the Fans' favorite, they are all over Twitter when the mv came up. I can't blame them, the song was fricking good that I almost memories the dance step. OMG. and you know what? this gives me the vibe of a very popular phrase in the Philippines socmedia : kung ako yun di kita gaganunin (if it was me,) if you know, you know ><
Tumblr media
5. Gayuma
So farrr, this is my favorite mv in Pagsulong Album. Gosh this is so INTENSEEEE!!!. Like, they are all sexy, daring and GORG!!!. I love itttt
Tumblr media
6. HALA
This is my favorite song of alamat. I love how they incorporate the "sitsiritsit alibabang" song (correct me if im wrong) everything is perfect in this song. boogsh
Tumblr media
Go check them out and You wont regret it,

jen i don’t know if you saw but a week or so ago louis said in an interview (to bbc if i’m not mistaken) that he would love some commercial success on this new record. i thought it was really interesting that he openly said it like that bc it’s not usually something we see from 1D member is it? but my question is, do you think it is possible for louis/fitf to be commercially successful?
Mannn, do I wish people would read the full article/watch full clips, because that's not what he said, if this is the interview you're talking about! He says:
Given that his early experiments in dance-pop remain Tomlinson's biggest-selling songs, could these two new tracks signpost his way back to the mainstream?
"Listen, I would love some commercial success on this record, don't get me wrong," he says.
"Will it get played on radio? I have no idea. But if it doesn't it won't be the end...
"I love my tour bus, I love my fans, I love travelling the world."
....as for "is it possible," I personally don't care, I feel like he's had INCREDIBLE success to date, and I also feel like it's a pointless thing to worry about as a fan, especially today. I haven't heard this album yet, so I have no idea if it matches well with all the markers of success, which is what, tiktok plays? streams? radio play? charts? specific sales? You can move those goalposts all day long and call whoever you're judging a winner or a loser, and it's honestly one of the most boring, depressing things about any fandom, I genuinely do not care what "success" looks like for rich white millionaires, they already made it, bb, and good for them! The fact that he enjoys touring so much--and will make an incredible amount of money doing so--means he's got success on several important fronts locked down, we can all relax, let Jesus take the wheel

I am and will continue to be your resident Gaylor follower, popping up at an album release, hi!👋🏻 Here with a scroll as they did in ye olden days lmao
Yeah tons of people are upset at the album prologue, many of them have received hate and threats online, getting doxxed and outed on top of that. Funnily enough they receive those threats from people that only want to see Taylor married off with kids and the whole picket fence spiel. Which is kinda funny. In an ironic way.
Anyway, I just wanted to say, there are shitty fans on both the Swiftie and the Gaylor side. You have one side trying to figure out when she lost her virginity and to whom, and another trying to figure out if one of the dance moves she does on stage is her subconsciously moving her hand in the same way you'd finger someone. So it's obvious that theorizing like that would make her uncomfortable. And those are just surface level, I'm not even gonna try going deeper and explaining every mental gymnastics moves each group makes to come to those conclusions.
You also have infighting inside each of those groups, which is just like, ridiculous? It feels just like the L and G attacking the B in LGBTQ+, like, c'mon?
My point being, this is just a regular release cycle ever since Taylor decided to become the sheriff of Pride Trailer Town back in 2019, with bi flag colored hair and all (it's called You Need to Calm Down lmao), after she liked a +18 wlw gif on this very platform, talked about "dating him or dating her" in an interview, saying "Gay pride makes me, me" and talking about decorating her girlfriend's apartment because she was too busy to do so herself. Just a small collection off the top of my head that's kinda difficult to misinterpret, and there is tons more, without ever going into lyric analysis and the sheer amount of queer flagging, but I digress.
The goal of this long-ass ask isn't really to defend, because I've seen first hand how many shitty people are there on each side. I know it's really fun to make fun of them, I've done it myself, even though I consider myself to be a part of this group of people. I straight up made crack pairings and figured out ways to connect lyrics to those pairings to show how silly some theories sound. But I'll reiterate, only one group has seen its members doxxed and outed which put these kids (yes many of them are kids) in very dangerous situations as it wasn't safe for them to be out. And that's something I'll always hold over the head of regular Swifties, because it's a life threatening act that members of the group have done. Meanwhile their strongest "ammo" is secret Kaylor baby (I strongly don't recommend THAT rabbit hole) which has very socially negative ideas interwoven in the theory, depending on who's your source of info, but has never physically put anyone in harms way.
Sorry for putting this block of text in your ask, it's been a long release day and while it's super easy for me because I'm in a way, a closeted Gaylor and remain anonymous online, some of my friends that received threats and insults today don't have my privilege. Lastly, whoever reads this, please do not fall down the rabbit hole of the monetized Gaylor theories if you ever do decide to look into it. They pretty much take old (and some new) theories people spent time putting together (because it's a really fun time) and put those behind a paywall. Also they don't have "sources", just give it a minute and think, who would provide information to a literal random fan? On tumblr of all places?
Ty for coming to my ted talk, it's now for me to get some shut eye! <3
Einstein was wrong, rpf isnt fine

AGTG MUSIC HEAD CANONS
Disclaimer: all of these music recs are from the mid 2000s and before as aftg is based in 2006-2007
Andrew- rage punk kick the shit out of you music. Platform stompers and anti-government yelling. Pretty pretentious. Hard rock/ art rock (tool, deftones, system of a down, queens of the Stone Age, sonic youth, mcr). Fist pumping and lighters waving at concerts with pits (but he doesn’t go into them cause of touching). He’s a headphones kinda guy, doesn’t like playing his music out loud, but will turn it up loud in his car. rolls his eyes at mainstream pop punk but usually knows the most popular songs (I see you saying p!atd sucks and knowing every lyrics to I write sins) Listens to Nicky/Erik’s soft German folk music in secret (taken to his GRAVE) to relax, along with shoegaze prolly.
Neil- casual listener, never used to listen to music when on the run cause it was a distraction and you always gotta be vigilant but Matt gets him into 2000s alt music. He listens on the treadmill usually. He prolly likes the killers. Anything with killers vibes. Prolly likes older 70s rock as well (I saw someone say he would like the song American girl and I liked that). Likes headphones, never has strong opinions on music. Thinks Andrew’s is too loud on most occasions (and Andrew scoffs at him for it)
Matt- mostly likes rock/ pop punk and rap! He likes heavy pit concerts he can slam around in, loud music to run to etc etc. his taste in rap and pop punk is pretty good (prolly like the all-American rejects, OutKast, etc). ALSO. has a not-so-secret love for girl pop because of the upperclassman girls. He DOES know all the lyrics to Britney spears most popular songs and fergalicious. Him and Allison jam out. Likes to play his music out loud and LOVES having the aux cord. Good at people pleasing when it comes to music and can play what everyone likes (as best he can)
Allison- GIRL POP ALL THE WAYYY. Will throw it back to any popular girl artists of the early 2000s (Rihanna, lady gaga, Miley Cyrus, Britney, fergie, kesha, Gwen stefani,) and knows allllll the lyrics. Has no shame plays all her music out loud. Does not care what the crowds want. Will dance with whoever is closest (usually Renee, Matt, or Dan, and sometimes the unsuspecting Neil who ends up being grinded on by someone at least 5 inches taller than him)
Kevin - classical music, the insufferable history nerd (I love you kev). Instrumentals because the foxes are loud and talk enough for him not to need words. Prolly knows the popular radio songs to stay caught up in pop culture if he’s ever asked his favourite song in an interview (cater to the masses). Listens to Jean’s favourite French artists when nostalgic. Charles Aznavour. Doesn’t really listen to music in public and rolls his eyes whenever the foxes turn anything on even if he enjoys it. Will yell at the foxes when they get distracted by a pop song during practice.
Renee- Says she listens to anything because she doesn’t wanna sound rude or start any musical opinion arguments. Usually listens to whatever is on BUT her secret favourite is something like “Lamp”. Favours the softer songs in albums. Sparring to ‘For Lovers’ type thing. Down to listen to Andrew’s heavy shit or Allison’s pop. Always open to listening to new artists but never found a specific favourite. Probably has a playlist dedicated to Disney soundtracks but no one has to know that, nor will they ever.
Aaron- on a s**cide mission listening almost exclusively to rap music. Most definitely got decked for it at least once by Andrew, simply because he was being pretentious and annoying, ended with a smashed CD player after it was thrown out the window. Despises headphones because “they can harm your eardrums” so Katelyn cries everytime he plays his music out loud. + Aaron would start singing along to the rap songs and gets 90% of the lyrics wrong. But also, he has a major soft spot for mcr, and when Katelyn gets into Taylor he listens with her “this is bad” *secretly likes it*
Nicky- Drug of choice: Britney Spears. Absolutely screams toxic, goes feral when Allison dresses up in Britney’s “baby one more time” school girl fit for Halloween. Adores dance music, is never hesitant to show everyone he’s got the moves of a god. EDM and club music reminds him of his time as a bartender at Eden’s but also 80s pop will always get him going. When he’s sad he listens to German folk music Erik has shown him, but it just makes him miss Erik more LMAO. Whenever anyone hears folk music in the dorms, they know Nicky’s moping and needs space. Will often listen to music out loud, but when strolling through campus he’ll have headphones on
Dan- Likes the club songs she used to dance to at the club, reminds her of her friends from home, and will often dance to them with Matt (create better memories). Beyoncé fan, sings her songs in the shower. Prolly gets Nicky obsessed as well. Often listens to whatever Matt likes as well, sometimes listens to songs Allison has shown her. Not really dedicated to a genre, likes everything, but mostly pop/ pop punk. Is very easy to please and can dance to anything especially if Matt is with her (or Allison/Renee)
Jean- French music exclusively.
Jeremy- surfer music LMAO
Wymack- classic rock (pretentious about it too)
Abby- radio music

Britt's music things (deluxe edition)
Up All Night
○ Artist: One Direction
○ Release date: May 25th, 2012
○ Duration: 1 hour and 3 minutes
○ Overall rating: 6.2/10
○ Bubblegum pop and sad ballads
What Makes You Beautiful: 10/10
Listen. I don’t care what anyone says. This song is a banger and I refuse to hear anything else.
Are the lyrics questionable? Yes.
“You’re insecure” Thanks? Very nice
“Everyone else in the room can see it / Everyone else but you”
 Gotta Be You: 2/10
Oh god these lyrics.
They’re confessing to breaking the girls heart, and then ask for another chance?
Aaaah manipulation. “And if you walk away, I know I’ll fade / Cause there is nobody else.”
“Now, Girl, I hear it in your voice and how it trembles” sir… that- that is not a good thing.
THIS SONG IS WRONG ON SO MANY LEVELS HAHAHAHA WHAT IS THIS.
Can’t deny that it’s a banger tho.
 One Thing: 10/10
A bop.
If you don’t dance to this song while drunk, are you really drunk?
I would bet my left knee that 99% of the world population knows at least half of the lyrics to this song.
“I need that one thing, and you’ve got, that one thing.”
The guitars at the start are iconic, and when the drums start you just know what’s about to happen.
 More Than This: 5/10
Aaaand back to the sad songs we go.
None of the songs on this album are written by the boys, but whoever wrote them had just gone through a big heartbreak.
“If I’m louder, would you see me?” this line does hurt a little bit
The chorus is a bop, but the lyrics are too sad
 Up All Night: 9/10
This song makes me want to jump on a table and dance.
Classic party song.
I do like the way this album is ordered: happy, sad, happy, sad, happy
“I wanna stay up all night / And jump around until we see the sun / I wanna stay up all night / And find a girl and tell her she’s the one.”
 I Wish: 7/10
We keep the change in theme going.
Sad lyrics, melody is a bop!
“Oh how I wish that was me” but as they sing this all I want to do is dance around the room?
“Whenever you kiss him / I’m breaking” this line has no right being as big of a bop as it is.
The ending is so sad but the vibes of this song are great.
 Tell Me a Lie: 9/10
“Tell me I’m a screwed up mess / That I never listen, listen. / Tell me you don’t want my kiss / that you need your distance, distance / tell me anything but don’t say he’s what you’re missing, baby / if he’s the reason that you’re leaving me tonight / spare me what you think, and / Tell me a lie”
This chorus is such great one. It is sad, but very upbeat and I love it.
The bridge. Zayn’s voice. That’s it. That’s the review.
 Taken: 2/10
Ugh.
No.
I hate this song so much.
The only reason it gets a 2 is because it’s catchy and I can’t help but sing along.
 I Want: 10/10
Lyrics are, once again, very questionable.
It is a fucking bop tho….
Once again, Zayn and his vocals during the bridge are *chef’s kiss*
Also can we just take a second to appreciate louis basically carrying this song with his backing vocals?
 Everything About You: 5/10
Bubblegum pop to the max
The chorus is catchy and literally the only reason this song gets a 5/10
 Same Mistakes: 3.6/10
Very repetitive.
Putting this song on the album was a mistake.
I’m trying really hard to think of something positive to say but my mind is very empty.
 Save You Tonight: 6/10
This is a bop, but it’s also a skip.
I said what I said.
 Stole My Heart: 6.1/10
Every song in 2012 ever made sounds like this.
The chorus do be catchy.
Yeah no, I get why I liked this album when I was younger, but it’s not doing anything for me now.
 Stand Up: 4/10
The rating is mainly because of the emotional attachment I have regarding this album.
I don’t like this song, but I used to love it.
It would literally break 2012 Britt if I rated this any lower.
 Moments: 9/10
Did I really just rate this 9/10 solely because of the chorus? Yes. Yes, I did.
I couldn’t care less about this song if it wasn’t for the chorus. It is genuinely the saving grace.
Also, Louis sounds so young in this. They all do, but Louis’ voice just…. Gah.
Another World: 1/10
I hate this song.
It’s catchy, but the first verse just annoys me so much.
I am aware this is a controversial opinion, but this album sucks so much
NEXT
 Na Na Na: 10/10
Now this is a great song to end with.
It’s super original in the chorus
“We go na, na, na / Then we’re like yeah, yeah, yeah / Always like na, na, na / Then we’re like yeah, yeah, yeah”
So inspiring, much wow
I Should Have Kissed You: 3/10
No. no you should not have kissed her.
Let the girl move on
Urgh
-------------------------------------------------------
Summary: bubblegum-pop and teenage heartbreak
God. I used to love this album when I was younger. It has some bops still, but my god. No. This is not an album I'd put on to just listen to because I like it.

tagged by @charlottan for 6 albums ive been listening to recently ^-^ thanks!!!
1. gangpol und mit - the hopelessly sad story of the hideous end of the world (bitpop / glitch pop)
thanks baxter for making me aware of this one. very very charming and catchy and unique!! love the cute quirky bleeps n bloops and robovocals contrasted with the kinda dark story. very surreal katamari-esque vibe to me. not always in the mood to listen to this one but i've been replaying it a lot lately. (...i wish i could find a copy of this album art that isn't JPEG'd to hell, but regardless.) favorite song: the only sure thing about luck is that it will change
2. radiation 4 - wonderland (mathcore / avant-garde metal)
found this one a bit ago from doing one of the "5 obscure bands" hyhtb posts. not really doing anything that other mathcore bands haven't, but still has found a special place in my heart. i just can't help but love obscure myspace-era bands with little/no high-quality footage. and they dressed in labcoats onstage! - how can you not love that!!!!!!! one of the few Very Loud And Screamy albums that i am somehow always in the mood for despite generally not liking that sound (along with tub ring - zoo hypothesis). favorite song: love through tapeworm hooks
3. humming urban stereo - very very nice! and short cake (lounge)
found through one of tumblr user kitschke's daily reviews. her thoughts ended up being about the same as mine - it's nice lounge with some eccentric sounds/samples. except i'm not as put off about scully doesn't know being on the album 3 times because that's my favorite song on it :p not much to say, i just like it! relaxing favorite song: scully doesn't know (korean version)
4. general patton vs. the x-ecutioners self-titled (experimental hip-hop)
wait, this album isn't called joint special operations task force? shit ive had it tagged wrong this entire time. anyway, i've been revisiting this one lately... not a hiphop buff so im not sure how to describe it but i love the glitchy scratchy parts and loads of sample usage and the little shining parts of Actual Song (we'll paint this town / wake me up in heaven / fire in the hole / etc) to grasp onto before it goes right back to being a mess of samples and glitchiness. basically the spasmodic nature of fantomas except its hiphop. whats not to love favorite song: "we'll paint this town" -- throat and phonograph fire support coordination measures (TPFSCM)
5. portishead - dummy (trip hop)
listened to as part of an album exchange thingy in char's server (thanks eve!). i looove the atmosphere, so much that i dont mind that the album as a whole feels kinda samey to me? its got this kinda dark and gloomy feel to it but its also so dreamy and vibey and... yeah! beats are good vocals are great. just let it wash over u favorite song: sour times
6. high castle teleorkestra - the egg that never opened (avant-prog)
obviously not a recent discovery, but i'm never Not listening to it. in case you somehow have been following me without knowing what this band is, it shares 3 members with estradasphere and is one of the best things ive ever damn heard (EXTREMELY biased). i'll try not to gush about it too much here but its so complex and beautiful and simultaneously retro and innovative and i love the scifi themes and yeah!!!!!!!!! HCT SECOND ALBUM PLEASE I NEED IT. favorite song: the days of blue jeans were gone
whoever wants to do this do it!!!! i have tagged you in spirit. go forth

S.E.S. - I'm Your Girl
It’s amazing that Wikipedia labels this album as “dance-pop” because it really isn’t. Or maybe I’m just frustrated at how many– actually let’s count. 5 songs definitely aren’t dance pop, 5 you could consider dance pop. So at max it’s half dance pop, and more likely it’s 3 or 4. Oof. Anyway, I’m kind of bored; this album really bored me by the end. But Unnamed Male Rapper was super present in this album, that’s interesting. I probably won’t save a single song from this album – average of 6.2. I’ll let that speak for itself. Maybe my expectations are still raised by Pink Tape.
Anyway, that’s the original project done with: I’ve listened to a full album by every SM girl group ever, all 10 of them. So what now?
I’m still not totally satisfied. The jump from The Grace to Oh! feels really jarring, so I think I’ll check out SNSD’s debut release. I also want to revisit Perfect Velvet, a bit more aespa, check out f(x)’s debut release, 4 Walls, maybe GOT the Beat too. I also might listen to another S.E.S. album or two, and maybe another Sugar album, maybe The Grace.
Usually I don’t include any songs that I already know, but I’ll make an exception this time around because 1) I make the rules here and 2) Not including the literal title track would be a bit odd.
(‘Cause) I’m Your Girl
Intro is moody and synthy
Yep, here’s the beat with the signature unnamed male rapper
Honestly I have nothing to type, I know this song really well
8/10, it’s a good song, it’s a jam, I listen to this when it comes on
Oh, My Love
More r&b than CIYG, bassy
Cute little harmonies for most of the chorus
The “oh yeahhh” is fun
Random guitar interjection
Seo Taiji moment lol
That’s it? Just one guitar moment?
6/10, it’s alright, I want more
Nonsense
That intro lol
Much more upbeat, the “ba da ba” is super fun
Why do I feel like I’m hearing seagulls?
More random male rapper(s)?
Really weird, distorted chorus(?) if that was the chorus anyway
Nice guitar here actually, this works well
(Dreams come true isn’t the only weird rap I guess)
Okay wait seriously what is going on here
Honestly though this is a bop, the synths in my left ear are fun
(Still despise stereo audio tbh)
The guitar in the chorus(?) really brings this song together, like if it wasn’t there then this song would feel so wrong
8/10, honestly that was really fun, campy
Dejavu
Ballad time?
Lol they got me
Horns are fun, bass is fun
Actually is that the first non-ballad fake-out we’ve had? I think so
More unnamed male rapper
This bass synth though is neat
Back to the horns I guess, the percussion in this section is great
7/10, could’ve done more in the verses
Good-Bye
Slow jam time
More unnamed dude, except this time he’s just muttering under his breath like he thinks this is Haru Haru
Haru Haru is the only acceptable emo muttering under your breath in music
I’m typing about Haru Haru because this song is slow and boring
Oh he does get proper rap lines, whoever he is
Dude his voice is low, and quiet, and mixed low too, I can hardly hear him
That kinda worked though
This guitar solo is fun at least
6/10 for the rap and the guitar
Reason Why I’m Perfect
Well that’s an egotistical title
More slow jam
Random rap break wtf
Now that’s a proper Nmixx change up
Oh also, random unnamed rapper reappears
This song is alright but it does basically nothing for me
5/10
Friend
I think we’re due a fun song
Oh no I’m scared by this intro
Well either this is a ballad or it’s a slow jam and I’m worried
Dude why do they always use the exact same snare sample?
Can I just skip this? Is that allowed?
5/10
Rock’n Country
Well I guess this is that fun song I wanted
Yep, fun beat
Lots of vocal samples in the background – not just in this song but the other fast ones too
Did I say fun beat? I think I should’ve said “gets old really fast” beat haha
Lol the lalala’s and the ha’s are funny
There’s no rock anywhere in this song
More unnamed male rapper
This bass is killing me
The growl lol
6/10, it was fun but REally annoying
After Today
This intro feels like some fantasy shit
But like, early 2000’s computer graphics fantasy game
More unnamed male rapper
Honestly this song makes me kind of uncomfortable
I feel like I’m supposed to like this song but
5/10
Thy Fragrance
Oh no
Fake ending, and then “come along baby”
Seriously who is the unnamed rapper guy
Wikipedia says it’s Eric Mun, but who does the other songs?
6/10 purely for the vocal flexing lol

and the winner is... ~ eminem
word count: 1784
request?: yes!
“hey, love your writing sm ❤️ I really like the concept where the reader is a young actress with Eminem, so can I request one where they go to Marshall’s award show for the first time publicly, they try to keep it low key but the reader presents an award and when Em wins they share a warm moment on stage and the media loses it? thanks in advance”
description: in which they say they’re going to be lowkey for their first public appearance as a couple, and then he wins the award she’s presenting
pairing: eminem x female!reader
warnings: swearing
masterlist (one, two)
Tumblr media
It was hard to keep my hands off of Marshall as we walked down the red carpet. It was our first public outing as a couple, but Marshall wasn’t very into PDA so we had decided to keep it somewhat lowkey. It seemed like a good idea in theory, until Marshall did the unthinkable and showed up dressed in a suit. How am I supposed to not jump his bones when he looks damn fine in a suit?
Every time I so much as glanced at him the paparazzi would go crazy. So many flashing lights that eventually I was seeing spots. It was hard to keep smiling when I couldn’t even see ahead of me.
Marshall put an arm around my waist - which of course led to more flashing lights - and walked me off the red carpet into the venue. The minute I walked through the doors into the dimly lit room, it really was like I couldn’t see. I had to take a minute to let my eyes adjust to the sudden light change.
“Weird how quickly I go from basically a nobody on a red carpet to a hot commodity just because I have attractive arm candy,” I joked.
A half smile tugged at Marshall’s lips. “You were never a nobody. Not to me anyways.”
“Awe, that’s so sweet it’s kind of gross,” I teased.
This earned me an actual laugh as Marshall pulled me in for a kiss. Without any prying eyes around, we felt free to actually be a couple.
We engaged with some others in the industry, including those Marshall considered to be close friends of his. I felt out of place at this music award show as an actress who was still trying to become more than just a side character in the movies she starred in. I was grateful to have Marshall there to help me through it.
When we took our seats as the show was starting, Marshall reached over to take my hand. “Are you okay?”
I shrugged. “Nervous I think. Which I shouldn’t be because it’s just me announcing an award, but it’s my first time on an award show stage for any reason, and it’s a pretty big award.”
“And it’s one I’m nominated for.”
I looked over at Marshall with wide eyes. “What?!”
“You didn’t know?”
I shook my head. Now I felt so much more nervous. What if I pulled a Steve Harvey and said the wrong name because I wanted Marshall to win? Or what if he actually did win but everyone thought I said he did because we were dating? I tried to focus on the stage ahead of me but my heart was beating so fast that my vision was starting to get blurry. I felt warm, like I was sweating, which made me worry that my makeup was starting to run. I was going to look disgusting with my makeup running on live television.
Sensing my new found nervousness, Marshall gave my hand a reassuring squeeze.
“Hey, look at me.” I glanced over to meet his gaze. “It’s going to be okay. You’ve rehearsed this speech so much that you can say it without the teleprompter. It’s not going to be any different just because I’m nominated. If I win, you give me the award and I do a speech. If I don’t win, you give the award to whoever does and they make a speech. It’s not a big deal, (Y/N), don’t worry too much about it.”
I wished I could’ve just let my fear rush from my body, but it was still there. Before I could say anything else, the lights went down and the show officially started.
I tried to just sit and enjoy the show but it was hard when I had my upcoming presenter role looming over me. Of course, it was one of the last awards of the show, so I had to sit there and let my nerves build as the suspense for the winner of the award grew as well.
Every now and then Marshall would give my hand another squeeze and I would calm down for that split second. Having him by my side helped a lot, but every time I remembered that he might be the recipient of the award I became nervous again.
Finally, it was my time to take the stage. They passed me the envelope with the name of the winner and motioned for me to take the stage. I plastered a smile on my face as my name was called and I walked onto the stage. I hoped the cameras couldn’t pick up my shaking, and I really hoped my shaking wouldn’t make my voice sound as bad as I feared it would.
“This award can only go to the best of the best,” I started, glancing at the prompter in front of me to make sure I was saying the words correctly. “The person who worked the hardest and had the best payoff with their release. The competition this year is fierce, and it was hard to narrow it down to just these five artists, as there have been so many amazing works of art released this past year. It has been an even harder choice to pick who of them all is the best, although I might be bias in saying I’ve already chosen my favorite.”
The audience chuckled at my improved addition to the speech.
“Ladies and gentlemen, here are your nominees.”
I watched the video that played of the nominated artists. My heart skipped a beat when Marshall came up, a few clips from the music videos he had filmed playing in a short montage. He had worked so hard on his latest album, every part of me hoped that he would be the winner I was announcing.
As the video came to an end, I turned back to face the audience (and the cameras) to announce the winner.
“And the award goes to...”
I tried not to let my slight fear show as I fumbled with the envelope for a moment. I started to worry that I wouldn’t even be able to open it and completely embarrass myself on live TV. I tried not to sigh with relief when the seal perfectly popped open and I was able to pull the card out. The smile on my face had to have given away the winner before the words were even out of my mouth.
“Eminem!”
The crowd cheered and stood from their seats. A camera found Marshall, who was standing from his seat and hugging Paul and Denaun before making his way to the stage. I couldn’t help but smile proudly at him as I extended the award I was holding - his award - to him.
I was taken by surprise when he wrapped an arm around my waist and pulled me in for a kiss. It was brief since he had an award to accept, but it was enough to make my head spin, the way his kisses usually did.
When he pulled away I was still so stunned that I almost forgot to give him his award. I could see him trying to hold back a laugh as he took it from my hands and turned to the microphone.
“Thank you,” he said to the still cheering audience. For a minute I forgot there was anyone else in the room, and realizing so many people had watched that kiss made my cheeks heat up. “I’d like to thank my manager, Paul, who for some reason still backs me with everything I do and produce even when it pushes the boundaries a little too much. I also want to thank the good Doctor, who has been supporting me since day one and who has always believed in me and gave me this platform to make music and to push the boundaries that Paul has to deal with. My daughters, my biggest inspirations. And of course, I’d like to thank the beautiful lady who presented this award to me tonight. I may not show it publicly but I am my happiest when I’m with you and I cannot thank you enough for that.”
I blinked away the tears forming in my eyes as I clapped along with the audience. The music started playing as Marshall offered me his arm to walk me off the stage. I felt like I was floating on cloud nine as we walked down the stairs and backstage, away from the cameras and the thousands of people watching us, both in person and on TV.
We were greeted backstage by other presenters and winners who were still mingling and celebrating their wins. Marshall was congratulated and a few of the other presenters told me how well I did with my presentation. I was proud of myself for getting through it, but I was more proud that I didn’t go completely airheaded after Marshall kissed me.
When we finally got away from the large amount of people, Marshall pulled me in for another kiss.
“So much for keeping it lowkey, huh?” I teased when I pulled away.
“I was caught up in the moment,” he said with a shrug, but I wasn’t completely convinced.
“That speech was uncharacteristically sweet,” I said. “For your public persona anyways. I figured you’d keep it short and sweet and maybe get the show into a little bit of trouble with an unplanned curse word.”
He chuckled. “Well normally that would be how things go. But I meant what I said during my speech: you make me the happiest I’ve ever been. When you said my name I just couldn’t help but feel this unfamiliar surge of happiness and excitement at winning. You know I don’t care about these types of award shows, but the fact that you presented this award to me made me care for just a second. I know I’ll be the talking point for the next few days because of this, but right now I don’t care all that much.”
Tears were welling in my eyes again as I pulled him back to me. “Shut up, you’re gonna ruin my makeup.”
His laugh filled my ears as he pulled me for another kiss. The happiness he said he felt coursed through my veins too. I couldn’t imagine being with anyone else in a moment like this.
When he pulled away he put his arm around me again and started to walk towards the door. “Let’s get out of here. I think I wanna celebrate my win with the most beautiful girl I’ve ever met.”
I smiled brightly at him. “I like the sound of that.”
