Mac didn’t learn about Will’s childhood until her trip to Missouri. It was a three-day weekend and his sisters had convinced him to take the trip home and to bring the woman he had been besotted with. He was reluctant, making Mac more self-conscious and insecure when she stepped out of the rented black Ford on a dusty Friday morning. She swayed on her feet awkwardly and watched as two grown women leaped from the screen door and ran excitedly towards their big brother. She smiled to herself as Will blushed at the attention and the women fussed over him. “Look at you Mr New York City!” A curly haired blonde had laughed as she messed with his leather jacket. Charlotte, the youngest of all the McAvoys. “Those shoes won’t stay clean long you know!” A straight-haired red head smirked in a lower pitch, kicking dirt towards Will’s boots. Anna, the eldest daughter. “Oh my God is this her?” The younger blonde turned and pounced on Mackenzie before Will even had a chance to introduce her. Both sisters wrapped her up in hugs, cooing over how pretty she was, that she needed fattening up and how in hell had he managed to bag her? Mackenzie remembered feeling embarrassed at all the attention, she remembered feeling overwhelmed by how quick they were to accept her. Most importantly, she remembered looking over at Will and feeling a warm flutter in her heart at the way he looked at her with his sisters. She would later learn it was the first time he began to consider coming home more often, if Mac was by his side. He was looking at her with more love he thought possible, because by simply standing there, she made home feel safe again.

will doesn’t like kids. honestly, he doesn't. he thinks they're loud and annoying and entitled and... he doesn't like them. unless, of course, they're related to him. he spoils every nephew and niece he has and oh my god his siblings i don't even know where to start with that.

mac tells will she cheated before she tells him she’s pregnant, because she doesn’t want him to stay out of guilt.

i... don't know what mac would do with her kid while she’s serving, but if he lives at the military base with her than jim is largely the one that watches charlie (that’s the kid’s name i have no idea if that makes sense)

charlie is insanely blunt and funny and so unbelievably sweet. will has no idea how to do kids, in general, but he comes into this knowing that this could have been his son in like, two days of difference. he loves him immediately. the kid is FUNNY, is the thing. a lot of kids rub will the wrong way because they’re grubby and annoying and weird, but charlie is a quiet, hilarious kid. he doesn’t see brian in him in all.

mac shows up at northwestern and she’s holding the hand of a toddler, so will doesn’t even think about. and then it’s her, and then she's everywhere, and then he starts his show by waving to charlie and smiling at him through the glass. and then he’s falling in love again, with the old mac and the new mac, mackenzie who’s a mom and who loves her son fiercely.

EDIT: If you're still having problems, it might help to switch from "Save/Save as" to "Export (as a) Single Layer". Just. Make SURE the box labeled "Expression Color" is set to RGB. I've been messing with this all day, and it looks like this combination of settings will allow exported PNGs to maintain their colors perfectly. To you. So far both Discord and Toyhouse still only display desaturated images and I cannot for the life of me figure out why

I see posts go by periodically about how modern audiences are impatient or unwilling to trust the creator. And I agree that that's true. What the posts almost never mention, though, is that this didn't happen in a vacuum. Audiences have had their patience and trust beaten out of them by the popular media of the past few decades.

J J Abrams is famous for making stories that raise questions he never figures out how to answer. He's also the guy with some weird story about a present he never opened and how that's better than presents you open--failing to see that there's a difference between choosing not to open a present and being forbidden from opening one.

You've got lengthy media franchises where installments undo character development or satisfying resolutions from previous installments. Worse, there are media franchises with "trilogies" that are weird slap fights between the makers of each installment.

You've got wildly popular TV shows that end so poorly and unsatisfyingly that no one speaks of them again.

On top of that, a lot of the media actively punishes people for engaging thoughtfully with it. Creators panic and change their stories if the audience properly reacts to foreshadowing. Emotional parts of storytelling are trampled by jokes. Shocking the audience has become the go to, rather than providing a solid story.

Of course audiences have gotten cynical and untrusting! Of course they're unwilling to form their own expectations of what's coming! Of course they make the worst assumptions based on what's in front of them! The media they've been consuming has trained them well.

“Ready for bed?” Will asked, crouched down beside him. Daniel shook his head with an emotionless face. “No? why not?” Will queried. “I want a story.” He yawned, pointing over towards the shelves where a book was propped up proudly. Will followed the boys outstretched arm and saw the book’s cover looming down at them. A cheery astronaut was prancing across the moon with aliens and stars hiding behind him. Will geared up his creaky knees and hauled himself back to standing.

“Man on the Moon. A day in the life of Bob.” Will read aloud as he considered the book. “He’s an astronaut.” Daniel informed him, eyes still very heavy. “Is he now?” Will took the book and considered his options. Daniel looked ready to fall asleep any moment now. Could he tell him no? Refuse him and tell him it was time to sleep. “Please?” Daniel tried. Will chuckled in surrender. He would probably be asleep after three pages anyway. “Okay, but if your mom asks, I put you straight to bed. Deal?” Daniel nodded and scooted over, giving Will room to settled on the bed beside him. As he lowered himself onto the bed, his knee gave a loud click. Wincing, Will hauled his leg onto the bed. Daniel watched Will getting comfortable and smiled happily, shuffling closer to lean against Will’s side.
