“I think we’re gonna have to tell everyone soon,” you told Daryl, as you slipped your night shirt over your head, turning back around to see his eyes already on you.

You both lay discussing your plans to go visit him and before you knew it you had flights booked to be with him when he arrived on the Wednesday, both of you knowing neither would able to last till the weekend.

I've been reflecting recently on why I love Bad Batch SOOOO much (no, seriously, I've been obsessed since the show first started airing and my obsession isn't fading anytime soon) while also still having some issues with the finale. And I think it's because the story reminds me so much of my own family. (Note: my ramblings in this post do get personal.)

I loved Clone Force 99 from the moment they were introduced in The Clone Wars. A band of clone misfits who are instantly recognized as different but also are close to each other and work together seamlessly with plenty of banter? Give me more! The amazingly resilient Echo is brought back and of course joins them? YES!!! So when it was announced that the Bad Batch would be getting their own show, I was thrilled! Yay for more crazy sibling shenanigans!

And then season 1 happened, with the squad almost immediately fracturing amidst all the changes occurring with the rise of the Empire. Ooof, hello reality.

I grew up in a large family with lots of siblings. We were all super close (and kinda crazy 😂) growing up; as we've become adults, however, personality differences have led some of my siblings to stop talking to each other which then bled over into them not talking to anyone else in the family. Not gonna lie, the past few years have been really hard, trying to figure out how best to navigate things so as to not push any of my siblings away but also give them their space.

Needless to say, I saw my family reflected in the Bad Batch. The Bad Batch were so close for so long, and then started falling apart. When Crosshair not only wouldn't go with his family in the season 1 finale but also seemed to be rejecting Hunter's statement that they could pursue different paths without being enemies, my heart broke even more. I know it will be a long time - if ever - that my own family members all reconcile with each other, so I really wanted this little clone family, at least, to get that chance. (Living out my hopes and dreams in fiction, I guess?)

Season 2 continued the season 1 trend of showing us both sides in such a sympathetic and nuanced way. I like to try keeping an open mind and seeing a situation from different angles/POV, both in real life and with fictional stories; so I think a big part of the reason why I adore this show is because it gave us the opportunity to consider both the main squad's AND Crosshair's perspectives, which honestly was a great exercise for me over the past few years in keeping an open mind regarding my own siblings' experiences and opinions (even if I don't always agree with them). And I was still holding out hope that this little clone family would have a chance to reconcile and be whole again.

And then Tech fell.

I'm crying right now just thinking about it.

(Tech was my favorite OG CF99 member since the moment he first stepped on screen, so his death would have been excruciatingly painful regardless; but the fact that he apparently died before the family could be fully reconciled... Well, I already know such a scenario - someone dying before reconciliation - is sadly possible with my own family, but having it happen to this fictional family just hit WAY too close to home, and I would have been equally devastated about this if any other Bad Batcher had died.)

Going into season 3, I knew there was a chance Tech wouldn't come back, much as I wanted him to. I LOVED watching Crosshair build a relationship with Omega, rejoin the family and reconcile with his other brothers, but... Tech is his brother too! With each passing episode, it was a struggle between hoping Tech would come back so the family would actually get their chance to be whole again, while also looking for any closure, any indication that Tech's memory and legacy would be acknowledged and honored by all the siblings he'd sacrificed himself for. I wanted Tech to be alive to get his own happy ending for his own sake, but if a comeback wasn't happening I wanted his life and sacrifice to clearly serve as an influence and motivation for his family. And for his siblings' sake (ESPECIALLY Crosshair's), if Tech was really dead and there wasn't going to be a full reunion, at least let the whole family heal from the loss, at least let the family honor the brother who gave everything to give them a chance to reunite.

The finale concluded, and I realized we got neither: there had been no full family reunion, and there had been no real closure/healing for the family regarding Tech's sacrifice either. (And I don't think it's at all unreasonable to have assumed the show would give us one or the other.)

Look, I'm one of those people who walked into Rogue One assuming it would have a happy ending. (Oh, those days when I was so young and naive...) So let me tell you, that ending traumatized me almost as badly as the ending of ASM2.

But, while other tragic/bittersweet endings have shaken me, it was the Bad Batch finale that literally left me feeling physically ill for days afterwards. Like, I was so relieved that everyone else lived? But it was so strange to be told it was a "happy ending" when, out of the entire family, only Omega kinda sorta maybe (if you squint) had a moment to honor their fallen brother? The family goes through all that trauma and loss and we end the show without actually resolving it, without the family actually healing? Tech's sacrifice made the Batch's eventual retirement possible, and the show won't even just say it? And to add insult to injury, after an entire season with the narrative teasing the possibility of Tech still being alive with CX2 being the forerunning explanation for it, it's all "well, we're still not going to provide any real closure on this plot point, but aren't you glad you can maybe assume Tech ISN'T CX2 since Hunter ran that sucker through without blinking an eye? Look, happy ending!"

I'm still stuck in "season 1" with my own family, so watching this story play out and ultimately conclude with this fictional family not getting full closure regarding one of their own siblings who had never been anything but supportive of all of them was... unsatisfying, to say the least. I LOVE that the clones, who were created by Palpatine to be discarded, managed to (unknowingly) strike a significant blow against Palpatine's plans. I LOVE that Omega and some of the other clones were able to choose to live peacefully on Pabu. I LOVE that Crosshair came back to his family. Still, I will never get over how Tech was handled - both the character himself and the characters he was closest to.

And I think this is part of the reason why I really hope the Bad Batch's on-screen appearances aren't completely over yet - and why, even without factoring in all the narrative ambiguity in season 3, I'm still rooting for Tech to return. Tech himself definitely deserved better, and his family deserved better too.

So there's my long-winded explanation for why there's not a single day that goes by that I don't think about this show 😅

Am I silly for being mad? And hurt?

Like, am I not justified in thinking it was cruel to string us Tech fans along only to have it lead to absolutely nothing?

It feels a bit like we’re the butt of a joke and they’re laughing in our faces. Like they cracked themselves up with every elusive comment, cryptic interview answer, and teasing tweet.

It’s not even the fact that Tech is actually dead. It’s the way it was handled, the way they cruelly led us on for over a year and dropped hints like candy just to keep their viewers and ratings up. That’s dirty to me. Dirty, dishonest, and leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

Plus the fact that none of the characters really mourned Tech for who he was to them, only what he could do for them. Like aww it’s a shame our smart brother is dead, we really could have used his brain right now. Oh well, guess we’ll have to figure it out.

PLUS that whole sequence mourning and honoring Mayday, a one episode character, but a ten-second side-eye for their brother after talking about how it will be hard to do something without him. Like did Tech even mean anything to them?

And the whole CX2 fake out. Don’t even get me started in that. I can’t. That was ridiculous.

Basically Tech’s death meant nothing other than, well someone had to die because evil empire and high stakes and shock value.

I feel like I’m going to be mad and hurt about this for a while and I probably won’t be watching season 3 again anytime soon. And the show will always be a bit tainted for me as a result.

In the meantime, I’ll console myself with my own mini-Tech in my class who eagerly showed me his picture of a hummingbird that he “trieded his best” to draw then proceeded to tell me how they can beat their wings over 80 times per second. He’s giving me life and healing my soul 🥹

I really don’t know what to say. I need time to recover. I don’t remember feeling like this watching another show.

Of course I was devastated with Rebels and The Clone Wars. But this is different.

Tech really meant something to me.

I’m writing this and I can’t stop sobbing.

I was so sure. So sure. I have been posting and writing hypothesis for over a year. I never believed he was gone. Never. Not even a single day.

I didn’t cry when the second season ended. How could I? I was so sure. I was convinced he was coming back.

Watching the trailer and then the episodes week after week… i knew it. CX-2 WAS TECH.

I cannot fucking believe it.

I didn’t cry then, but it finally hit me and I’m grieving.

Knowing that MANY characters in Star Wars returned back from the dead, I assumed it was going to be the same with Tech. I remember being so angry during Plan 99. I was thinking: “This scene is so good. The stakes were high and it’s understandable that there should be a sacrifice. But I’m angry with Star Wars cause a death is never a death. So I cannot take in the sacrifice cause Tech’s alive and well.”

Now that I know… I don’t think that I can rewatch that scene. I don’t think I can.

He died. And I never believed it. Not even for a second.

When season 3 started, a small part of me was ready to accept it. I needed a conversation between the Batch. A memorial. Something similar to Mayday’s. Anything.

We didn’t get that… so I kept on hoping.

And I was wrong. So wrong.

I read so many fics. So many.

I know many of you said that you were going to go back to AUs but I don’t think I’m ready.

How can I? When he is truly gone?

Maybe some of you don’t care. Some of you were right in calling us Delulu… but there were so many parallels this season.

So many.

I’m devastated.

This was my comfort show.

I don’t think I will be watching this anytime soon.

In this edition of ALIEN STAGE Magazine, we have an exclusive interview with fashion model and Round 10 contestant, Tov!

With the start of supersized Season 39 of ALIEN STAGE right around the corner, Tov sat down with us for her first ever interview and opened up about her life and her thoughts on the upcoming competition.

1) What have you been up to since your graduation from the Anakt Garden? How has your life and routine changed since then?

Tov: I’m a model full time now for my guardian’s fashion house, Cassiopeia. Mostly photo shoots for print or billboards, but occasionally I have the opportunity to walk in shows. I also sing in lounges sometimes for vocal practice.

Thankfully, my daily life hasn’t changed too much since graduating. It’s been an easy transition.

I’ve even been able to reconnect with one of my friends from Anakt Garden, Himei. She’ll be competing in this season of ALIEN STAGE too, though we’re in different brackets.

2) Have you noticed a shift in the public’s perception of you since the season was announced?

Tov: Somewhat, yes. People outside of the fashion industry have started to recognize me. Not a whole lot, but a few. It’s a nice feeling when they wish me good luck.

3) How do you feel about the start of the new ALIEN STAGE season? Does being on Side B take some of the pressure off?

Tov: Yes and no.

Yes because it gives me the chance to rehearse and refine my performance without having to rush.

No because there are so many strong performers in Side A that it will be a big challenge to follow up.

4) If you had the opportunity to sing a duet with any competitor from this season, regardless of bracket, who would it be?

Tov: My first answer would be someone I was close to in Anakt Garden, but I think any of us would say that.

Aside from them, I’d like to sing with Azure. He has very nice tone and smooth vocals. I could see our singing styles working well together.

5) What do you think is your charm?

Tov: It’s hard to say from the inside looking out. I’ve been told that people find the stars in my irises charming. Though Cassio insists it’s my smile.

6) Is there anything that you think sets you apart from your competitors?

Tov: I would say my voice. It tends to be deeper and a little more soulful than people expect when they first see me. I believe it adds to my strong stage presence.

7) Speaking of your voice, some of your competitors learned to play instruments as well as sing in their formative years.

If you could go back and do your time at Anakt Garden over again, would you pick up an instrument as well?

Tov: Possibly. I wasn’t really drawn to any particular instrument at the time, but if I had a do over, maybe I would try learning to play the harp.

8) What are your recent interests?

Tov: I’ve always had a strong interest in the stars, but lately I have been learning more about different galaxies and deep space. Luckily there is a lot of information and research to read about, so I don’t see myself getting bored anytime soon.

9) Has your guardian been involved in your preparation for ALIEN STAGE?

Tov: Very much so. Cassio has designed all of my outfits themself and they’re all custom made to fit my frame. Each of them is one of a kind and I am grateful for the work they have done for me.

They’ve also asked that I accompany them to work over the course of the first bracket so I can learn how my round will go from a production standpoint.

10) How are you preparing for your performance with Minori?

Tov: The same way I would prepare to perform with any of my classmates. I will do my best because I know she will do her best. It’s how Anakt Garden taught us.

11) Speaking of Minori, what do you think of her?

Tov: I remember her being very energetic back in Anakt Garden. She was always running around during playtime. I couldn’t run like she could because of my heart condition, but I enjoyed watching her race our classmates. She always won. Athleticism was her gift, but she was also good academically as well. I admire her varied talents.

12) Do you think you can win?

Tov: I hope the stars will align for me, but it is ultimately up to the audience which of us shines brighter. I will place my fate in their hands.

13) If you won ALIEN STAGE, what would you do after?

Tov: I’m not thinking that far ahead yet. I prefer to focus on each round as it comes and perform to the best of my abilities.

14) Do you have anything to say to your opponent?

Tov: I’m glad we will get to sing together one last time.

Had a friend sleep round and we decided to binge watch Blood of Zeus. Here are my thoughts:

Overall, it was good. The animation was a little weird at times (it was like realistic animation but with a touch of comedy movement thrown in every now and then that just didn't fit or their lips moved a little too stiffly when speaking) but it still had some great designs for the characters and creatures.

The story itself was a bit of hit and miss. I liked the general plot and most of the little character moments that happened in between but felt Heron was a pretty boring and unnecessary main character. I feel like we could have done the whole story with one of Zeus' canon sons being the lead (either a god or demi god, it could have worked either way). I also realized that a lot of the things I really didn't enjoy from the show was usually the Hollywood-Cliches/Tropes that were added on. Things clearly done to hype the drama but that either weren't needed or didn't fit with the characters. And I'm not sure if it's because I've read a lot of the Greek Myths and I'm mixing it with these characters but I often found myself siding more with the bad guys than the supposed heroes. Like yeah, Hera's totally psycho but at the same time, good for her telling Zeus to go eff himself!

Speaking of characters: Ares. Let me start by saying I don't actually mind changing up the stories and interpreting the characters in different ways. I think it makes it interesting and different. But it has to be for a good enough reason like a serious plot point or important character development. Ares, in this, is not only totally out of character (he's the one of the few God who was against any form of sexual assault) but he's annoyingly pointless. I literally described him to my friend as an "annoying bully jock" and then saw someone else on here also described him as a "typical jock". Throughout the show, he isn't there to do anything but be an asshole and give the "bastards" a hard time so we can see just how much better they are in comparrison. Again, I don't mind changing things up but it feels very much like people still just think: Ares=God of War, war=fighting, fighting=bad, bad=evil. That's such a juvenile thought process but it's all anyone ever does for him in media. (And you know what, on another moaning note. I hated Ares outfit. Not necessarily the outfit but certainly the color. Puting him in all black because, again, black=bad, just looked awful to me. It sucked and it's the one things in the show that really got on my nerves throughout.)

I will watch season 3 when it comes out, but I don't think it's a show I'll be eager to rewatch anytime soon.

And I'll add here: If anyone has any book/movie/TV show recs about Greek God's and Mythology, please recommend. I am still very much addicted to that subject right now.

Why I M O, Pokeshipping is dead. ( kinda hot take, sorry pokeshippers. ) So, pokeshipping. The very 1st ship in the Pokemon anime’s history. I personally am not a fan of it, I did watch the original anime, and I personally don’t like misty’s character. It was off putting to me.

Now as to what your here for, what killed pokeshipping. There are 3 main contributors to the death of pokeshipping.

1.) The length of time from when misty was replaced to now,

2.) Serena and Amourshipping

3.) The Pokémon sun and moon anime

The length of time from when misty was replaced to now. Now while this might not have been much of an issue if the other 2 bullet points didn’t exist, it has been over a decade at this point, since we last saw misty, meaning that we have a severe lack in character development, and that gives time for other potentially better ships to be created, which leads me to my next point,

Serena and Amourshipping. Possibly one of the biggest ships right now, (which at this point isn’t going to fizzle out anytime soon. ) With Amourshipping going so far, as to introduce a major plot point in ash’s story by having Serena be his childhood acquaintance, many other points that multiple poketubers like Catch ‘Em All Saul, bring up in their videos from years past, to the kiss, and even the writers basically confirming the darn thing.

So at this point, ( unless they throw all that away, which please. Don’t. ) there is next to no hope of pokeshipping to ever become cannon, which is only further proven by my last point,

The Pokémon sun and moon anime. Now, this is honestly the iceberg that sank the ship, because Brock and Misty returned twice in the Sun and Moon anime, which I’m pretty sure was for let’s go promotion. Now this is where all hope is lost for pokeshipping because even though they returned twice, Misty had literally zero emotional moments with ash whatsoever. No pokeshipping pandering, no flashbacks, nothing. Here’s another video explaining that further.

Now while the only good thing to come out of the re-return episodes was Brock possibly finally finding a girlfriend,

This was the point of no return for Misty and pokeshipping in general. Misty, even though she returned twice, in the most recent anime, had literally no development, and nothing to show how she grew as a character since her absence, her return seems pointless and devoid of substance, and with another ship still gaining popularity at an exponential rate, I’m sorry pokeshippers, but,

It’s time to pay your respects, and move on.

I love them your honor. Doesn't even have to be romantic, I just want to see them being obsessed about each other. I'm also a pretty big obianidala fan, hence why I added her too. (I'm a multishipper really. I have my otp but there's a lot of ships that I enjoy)

1. Obi-Wan Kenobi/Anakin Skywalker(/Padmé Amidala) (Star Wars)

When I first watched star wars (not that long ago, I only watched it because I wanted to see the sequels in theater lmao) I wasn't a big fan of the prequels so I mostly ignored them, but then a couple years ago I randomly rewatched them in the middle of the night and suddenly I was obsessed. I'm not even sure how I ended up on AO3 (did I go look for obikin? Did I stumble on it? Idk) but eventually I started reading Pining in Preschool, then realised that @palfriendpatine66 was on tumblr, I started interacting with more people around here, and now I'm (slowly) writing fics, and I'm having the time of my life here, so thanks Pal!

I don't think any if my past fandom brainrots reached my current level so I'm pretty sure I'm here for the long haul (at least it's not stopping anytime soon).

It's not super obvious here but I'm actually a huge Marvel fan (well, the MCU, I've never read a comic), and especially Captain America. Stucky is just, 🤌 so tasty (a lot of similarities with obikin actually imo). I'd like to talk to whoever thought "I'm with you 'til the end of the line" was a straight sentence to repeatedly say to your bro throughout an entire century though. Like?? I'm all for relationships that defy the boundaries of platonic and romantic, but still, that's kinda gay.

The first MCU movie I saw was actually captain america 2 (and not the first one lol) in theater, and I was instantly hooked, though since Endgame I've been less into it, since my fav is gone (and I have to agree with tumblr on that one: they're making too many movies and shows, I can't keep up 😩)

(And I'm still super salty about what they did to steve in canon, they should have killed him off instead of whatever the fuck that was, honestly)

I also added Peggy because she's great, and polyamory is so much better than love triangles or shipping wars. (I'm not polyamorous but I believe in their beliefs. I think it's because of the aromanticism)

Same as with obikin (and stucky too tbh) I don't really care how they love each other, I just care that they do. They're the most important person to each other, be it romantic, platonic, familial, idc.

3. John Watson/Sherlock Holmes (mostly BBC Sherlock, but from the RDJ movies and the books too)

I've obsessed over (non-existent) clues during the last season, and deluded myself into thinking they'd become canon, alas, it didn't happen.

I've translated a couple of fics in french for that ship, but I've never written for it (I thought about it tho), and I've read a lot. That's the fandom where I've read some of the best queerplatonic fics, and that's my favorite interpretation of the ship, especially sherlock being some flavor of aroace.

4. Aziraphale/Crowley (Good Omens)

I love them as a queerplatonic relationship, and I genuinely think that's what they are in canon, the haters can suck it, that's not queerbaiting even if they dont become a canon couple.

Okay, I'm starting to see a patern here. Am I really that predictable? You can just copy-past what I said above.

5. Elizabeth Bennet/Mr Darcy (Pride and Prejudice)

Not quite the same vibe as the others, but I've read sooo many fics and books (straight up published fics lol), I've watched a bunch of different adaptations (even the one with zombies)... The worst part is that I think I've only read the og book once, oops.

I actually inherited that fandom from the women in my family lmao. My mom, sister and sister-in-law are all obsessed with it, so I read it to see what all the fuss was about and, yeah, I get it.

And that's it! There are other fandoms I'm into, and other ships in those fandoms, but that's pretty much it (the main one that's missing is Dinluke, the others are mostly smaller ones).

I'm not super actively in those fandoms (apart from Star Wars obviously) but i come back to them now and then. Usually I re-watch it then binge-read a bunch of fics (while my main fandom stays in the main spot in my brain) then I let it go again until it comes back (while obikin still stays in the main spot).

Also Harry Potter used to be my main obsession but JKR kinda ruined that for me so I'm not really into it anymore (hence why I didn't list it even though I have written fics for it).
