Humanist Vampire Seeking Consenting Suicidal Person (Vampire humaniste cherche suicidaire consentant, dir. Ariane Louis-Seize) x VIFF 2023.

This is a surprisingly fresh take on teen vampires in the form of a low-key Quebecois coming-of-age indie comedy about trying to consume human blood and find victims ethically. Sara Montpetit and Félix-Antoine Bénard star as a 68-year-old undead woman in the body of a teenage girl and a depressed high schooler with suicidal tendencies. They form a sweet but strange bond as they try to earnestly help each other achieve their unconventional goals in life. Its exploration of the more mundane but annoying parts of vampiric life makes for an altogether humorous endeavour.

Screened at the 2023 Vancouver International Film Festival as part of the Altered States series and screening again at the VIFF Centre from Oct. 21–30.

Well @poetry-protest-pornography has headed off to begin her journey home so this weekend's edition of Rachael and Mia's Show Watching Agenda has officially drawn to a close as well as Rachael and Mia's Concert Agenda. Hopefully there'll be more soon, either over headset, or in person around Thanksgiving (the latter one on both Agenda Fronts 👀👀)

It's funny, we've been friends since we were teenagers but we didn't go to any concerts together until last year? And now we've been to five, despite living roughly 11 hours apart from each other. The wonders of shared special interests I guess 🤣

Aaron Donald leaves a legacy of greatness

What can you say that hasn’t already been said about Aaron Donald? Defensive Rookie of the Year. Pro Bowler. All-Pro. Team leader. Super Bowl champion.  With Donald, one superlative triumphs another. That’s how great he was as a player in the National Football League (NFL). With his announcement that came via the social media platform “X” (formerly known as Twitter), that he has decided to hang up his cleats for good, Donald leaves behind some big shoes for the Los Angeles Rams to fill.

He is truly one of one and epitomizes everything that’s right about sports. I will forever cherish the memories we’ve made and will always be grateful for how he poured everything into this game and into our team. He’s meant a lot to me personally and to my family,” McVay added.  Donald started his career with the Rams when the team was known as the St. Louis Rams. That lasted two years before the former Orange County-based franchise relocated to Southern California and became the Los Angeles Rams.  It didn’t matter where the Rams played, No. 99 was always going to be present, always going to be the dominant force that has made him a future Hall of Famer. When Donald played, you knew that he was giving every ounce of dripping sweat to try to win a football game.

Donald did much of that during his amazing 10-year career in the NFL.  During a decade-long career of playing grit and grind football, Donald became enemy No. 1 for opposing quarterbacks. At the time he announced his retirement, Donald wrapped up his career with 111 sacks.  Considering the number of times that he was often doubled-teamed and triple-teamed throughout his career, Donald became football’s version of “The Equalizer.” Whenever the Rams' defense encountered some difficulty, Donald was always the solution. Just ask Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals.  It was Donald who sealed the deal for the Rams to win Super Bowl LVI when he brought the heat to Burrow and forced the Cincinnati quarterback into a harmless incomplete throw on 4th-and-1 with seconds remaining in the game.  “We are so grateful for Aaron’s dedication to greatness and for leading our franchise on and off the field for the past decade,” said Rams Owner/Chairman E. Stanley Kroenke.  “He has left his mark on generations of football fans and his accomplishments, coupled with his work ethic and passion, continue to inspire his teammates, coaches and athletes across the globe. It is a privilege to have witnessed one of the greatest players of all time and we are proud that Aaron Donald will forever be part of NFL history as a member of the Rams,” Kroenke added.  The moment was never too big for Donald. Perhaps more impressive than Donald’s ferocity in which he played is the fact he was there. Despite the relentless physical punishment he absorbed over the years by just being in the trenches, Donald was almost always present and ready to go on game day.

During that period, Donald became the chief disruptor, claiming double-digits in sacks in six seasons, including registering 20.5 quarterback takedowns in 2018.  Hyperbole and numbers don’t fully tell the impact of Donald in the middle of the Rams defensive front over the years.  He was voted All-Pro eight times. He was named to the Pro Bowl 10 times. And there is the matter of Donald being tapped to win the Associated Press Defensive Player of the Year award three times (2017, 2018, 2020).  You just don’t replace Aaron Donald. But the Rams are now tasked to do just that as the team prepares for the 2024 NFL season. That’s one gaping hole to fill. Julie Rousse Her work is diverse and expressed through several different experimental music projects based on improvisation : live performances, sound installations, electroacoustic compositions, music scores for dance, performance, films, visual artists and photo documentaries.

Passionate phonographer and noise lover, she is always looking for new sonic sources in her worldwide travels, exploring the possibilities of sound capturing in specifically chosen contexts, working with different recording devices. She oscillates between the purity of the recordings and a special attraction for archaic, lo-fi machines. She uses that sonic collection - in an experimental process - as her raw material, an infinite source of rhythms and colors which she shapes with a real time sound treatment software - real time being the essential element of her spontaneous and chaotic approach. She digs in the sound - intruding in the detail - exploring in search of new textures of raw sounds.

In 2015, she was Laureate of the Institut Français programme Hors les Murs, for a3 months stay for a research around the musical culture of the Mapuche people autochtones from the south of Chile.

With Félicie d’Estienne d’Orves, they created the monumental audiovisual installation EXO - Spatio-Temporal Archeology, inviting the audience to turn towards the sky and contemplate while listening to the multiphonics spatialized compositions the Julie created for each objects pointed by Felicie's lasers.

Since 2018 she is living in Marseille. In 2020 she integrates the Collective Les Ateliers Jeanne Barret where she will have her studio as associated artist.

Pierce Warnecke is a multidisciplinary digital artist at the interection of experimental music, digital arts and video art. He has presented his work in the form of performances, concerts and installations at Rewire, Mutek, ZKM, ManiFeste (IRCAM), CTM, Elektra, KW Institut, La Biennale Nemo, Sonic Acts, Martin Gropius Bau, MAC Montreal, Gray Area SF, Scopitone, LEV Festival, SXSW, FILE, etc.

He co-curates emittermicro label and festival with Kris Limbach and Seiji Morimoto in Berlin since 2011, in addition tp co-curating Le Signal Festival in France with Louis Laurain since 2020.

Between 2017 and 2019 he composed several audiovisual works for the Institute for Sound and Music's Hexadome project in Berlin, San Francisco, Montreal and more. Pierce collaborates often and has worked with Frank Bretschneider, Matthew Biederman, Myriam Bleau, Keith Fullerton Whitman, Louis Laurain, Rodolphe Loubatière, Clémént Edouard and more.

His music has been published on raster (DE), Room40 (AU) and Contour Editions (US). He is represented by Disk Agency in Berlin.

This is a list of people who I find inspiration from that are people of color. Many of the people I have included are also Queer (but not all) and the intersessions of their identities are at the forefront of their work. Music/ Lyricists

Kendrick Lamar (B: Compton CA, 17 June 1987 – ): He is a rapper, poet, and songwriter. His works are reflections of life as a Black man growing up in LA and the social pressures that surround his community and identity. He is regarded as one of the most influential artists of our generation. His latest album

SZA (B: St. Louis MO, 8 November 1989-): SZA (Aka Solána Imani Rowe) is a black fem American singer and songwrtier. Her lyrics depict the soft and sometimes disheartening parts of love. As of 2/28/2023, her 2022 album SOS has been No. 1 on the Billboards 200 list for the last 10 weeks.

Mike "Dream" Francisco (B: ?- D: Oakland CA, 17 Feb. 2000) Dream was a Filipino American aerosol artist from the East Bay. He was one of the founders of a group of artists known as the TDK collective. His aerosol art was a reflection of the political and social movements of the 80s and 90s in the East Bay. His writing and calligraphy style was influenced by Hip-Hop books he would read. There are still preserved pieces of his work in East Oakland, Encinal High School in Alameda, and in part of the city ( San Fransisco). In honor of Dream's work, the city of Oakland created Dream day which is a celebration on Feb. 17th of each year.

James Baldwin (B: Harlem NY, 2 August 1942 – D: Saint Paul de Vence France, 22 August 1987): He was an influential author and writer during the civil rights era. He worked side by side with leader with MLK, Malcomb X, Bobby Seale, and many other. He was a gay man who wrote critical pieces on America's treatment of its citizens.

Gloria Anzaldúa (B: Harlingen TX, 26 September 1942 – D: Santa Cruz CA, 15 May 2004): She was a queer Chicana woman who taught at UC Santa Cruz. She was a distinguished feminist poet and writer. Her most famous book, Borderlands/La Frontera: The New Mestiza (1987), talks about the intersections of being a queer first-generation Mexican-American woman in America. She officially coined the word Mestiza which historically was a word that most Latine folk previously used to describe their mixed ancestry, despite the creation of the word being used by Spanish colonialists. She taught generations of Latine and Chicano/a/e/x folks about the importance of reinventing identities and how to take back those identities to empower one another.

Ibram X. Kendi (B: Jamaica NY, New York 1982 –): Kendi wrote the book "How to Be an Antiracist" in 2019. He is a researcher and professor at Boston University.

Community Leaders

Huey P Newton (B: Monroe CA, 19 June 1942 – D: Oakland CA, 22 August 1989): He was the Co-founder of the Black Panther Party with Bobby Seale. Newton was an African American Political Revolutionary who helped create mutual aid and community support from within the Black Panters. He was assassinated in 1989 and is buried at the East Oakland cemetery next to the former private women's institution "Mills College".

Bobby Seale (B: Liberty TX, 22 Oct. 1936– ): He was the Co-founder of the Black Panther Party. Mr. Seale is an African American Political Revolutionary who created the party's 10-point program and helped to create massive reform within California and nationally with grass-roots community activism. He is also an engineer, a professor at Merrit college in Oakland, and still an active community activist.

I'm still a Larrie but I've given myself a deadline of Feb 2023. By then Louis' tour which we assume is his final obligation to Sony will be done and dusted and dwd and mp promo ended (as Harry told Stern it was due out Oct/Nov time).

If by February Olivia and Eleanor are still around I'm gone because the constant yoyo-ing is starting to affect my mental health. A 17 yr old English Champions League football player just came out as gay, Lil Nas X and so many others are out and proud so there's no need for such extreme bearding by L and H. I mean, Louis even pretends he lives with O and shares dogs with her. It's overkill esp now Louis is with bmg.

I sympathize, anon. I really do. This is not how I expected the solo era to play out. I don't know about Harry and Olivia, but I think Eleanor is here to stay. Harry and Louis can navigate their lives as they see fit. I'm not hopeful about a coming out taking place any time soon - which is understandable. But I'm also not going to pretend it's normal to "fake date" people for over a decade without ever coming up for air. I think Larries are correct about bits and pieces of this story. But it's all become increasingly convoluted and I don't think much makes sense in 2022. Maybe things will be clearer in retrospect.

But I encourage you to take a break from fandom whenever you need to. It doesn't have to be permanent. It doesn't even have to be lengthy. I took a massive step back in 2017 and didn't really get involved again until summer 2021. Do you know what I missed? Not very much. Louis is still with Eleanor. Harry had some girlfriends. Same shit different day. You can always catch up on the drama retroactively. My only regret is missing out on Harry's small venue tour. But I really feel like fandom should be fun and enjoyable. If the Larry drama is causing you stress, maybe just focus on the music and Harry and/or Louis as individuals.
