Humanist Vampire Seeking Consenting Suicidal Person (Vampire humaniste cherche suicidaire consentant, dir. Ariane Louis-Seize) x VIFF 2023.
This is a surprisingly fresh take on teen vampires in the form of a low-key Quebecois coming-of-age indie comedy about trying to consume human blood and find victims ethically. Sara Montpetit and Félix-Antoine Bénard star as a 68-year-old undead woman in the body of a teenage girl and a depressed high schooler with suicidal tendencies. They form a sweet but strange bond as they try to earnestly help each other achieve their unconventional goals in life. Its exploration of the more mundane but annoying parts of vampiric life makes for an altogether humorous endeavour.
Screened at the 2023 Vancouver International Film Festival as part of the Altered States series and screening again at the VIFF Centre from Oct. 21–30.

Rouge the Prowler ^^ Idk much abt her but I need to share my vision with the world….
•Canadian/Québecois (She curses in french obviously 🙄🤭)
•She 100% loves Les trois accord and Les cowboys fringants (she bawled when the singer of Les cowboys fringants died…. Me too..)
•Huge scene queen back in the days (this is really mostly because of the hair but I just imagine her as an outgoing teenager) (she gets along really well with Nina too bc of that)
•Big snake lover. She would absolutely own a snake in the right conditions. The kinda small yellow ones yk…. I forgot the name
That is all folks sorry its kinda messy I don’t really know how to layout posts on here 🫡 I will now never post again

Angry Rant from a Sad Frenchie
I'd advise you read this entire thing before you comment, reblog or get any opinion on this. Just to make sure you have the full context.
Alright...
Recently I found this image
Tumblr media
It made me mad, for obvious reasons, as I am a québécois. And so I made a big rant about it in DMs with my anglo Irish boyfriend, who's always very happy to talk, and I love him very much-
ANYWAYS.
I realized that not everyone would understand my anger. Some people might even agree with this post.
But I think it's out of ignorance. Not out of anything else
And so, I will share the rant I did. Have fun

All and all, this may not sound like much, but pronouncing words in another language correctly is basic respect.
I think that if you don't care about the way you pronounce other languages' words, you just don't care about their culture or about respecting them. It's not hard to take that extra step and learn how to correctly say words.
When I say French, English, Spanish, Japanese- words, I'll always try to say them the right way. It's the least I can do to show respect.

I've been learning French for those that don't know! And Grypha and Quaker have been so supportive through the whole process. Even when I haven't felt so good about it. Idk if this will be anymore than a sketch. But I'm proud of it

As a francophone I enjoy checking out the French dubs of different shows. And my latest obsession (Hazbin hotel) has a really good French dub.
That said, I came to the realization that if the dub was quebecois french it would be elevated (or at least used quebecois swearing).
Now hear me out.
due to the history of the Catholic Church in Quebec and the control they had over the population ppl swear using church words.
The more common ones are osti, calice, tabarnak, chrisse, saint ciboire, sacrement, viarge, sacrifice (and more)
You can mix and match them up together and get real creative for some fun ways to cuss someone out. (Add french swears from France or English swears for some extra spice)
You can use them as verbs, nouns, and, adjectives.
Examples : déchrisse (fuck off), osti de con (idiot), osti d’calice de tabarnak (string of expletives), je m’en calice (I don’t give a fuck), va t’en calicer (screw/fuck off), t’es fucké (you’re fucked), tu m’ fait chier (you annoy me/you make me shit), etc…
You gotta admit a show that’s set in hell having characters swear using church words is iconic

Sultans Streets
I’m not a fan of rap so it might surprise you to find a couple of cds by The Streets on my shelf. I have original pirate material (2002) and a grand don’t come for free (2004). I bought them at time time when he was getting rave critical reviews for his fresh sound, smart samples & positive, uplifting lyrics. But like comedy lps I find the spoken-word loses its surprise after a couple of…

On t’aime Karl! Merci les Cowboys!

New Testament
I have started reading the Bible seriously a few months ago, with the New Testament a few days ago. I tried to replicate the model my mother graciously offered me as a child by reading a chapter or two everynight. (My mother had a wonderful children and illustrated Bible to read to us as a bedtime story.)
I have to say, navigating my Catholic faith by myself has been the most confusing when it came to reading the Bible. I didn't remember the Bible being so many events without much transition, if that makes sense. Afterall, we do witness Christ from various perspective. I started with the Evangelicals, but I noticed how much I missed: Judges, Simeon...
In any case, I'm okay with not following a linear path. I'm already quite the strange believer by default, a confusing path is nothing to be scared of. And nothing tells me I can't readit multiple times, haha!
I'm truly enjoying all of this, honestly.
