Book 7, Chapter 7, Episode 103
Malleus made a zombieland lmao
Ok so remember last episode that mom mentioned that Ortho has a time limit of 20 minutes? Yeah, Malleus' magic is so complicated that it takes a super computer like Ortho 17 minutes to gather data. He's pressed on time, so he gets to work... UNTIL
???: "My my... And I was wondering what anomaly might be happening in my domain..."
Malleus: "You... Your appearance has changed, but you are the Littler Shroud, are you not?"
Ortho: "Malleus Draconia..! I knew it... So you did overblot."
Doggy 1: "GRRRR..."
Malleus wonders what Ortho was doing there, because he was quite sure the boy's sleeping soundly at Diasomnia. Ortho explains that it's too bad for Malleus because that body's already empty. He's escaped through the school's wireless LAN.
Ortho: "I'm just a self-driven AI program data... But even if I say that, you wouldn't really understand right."
Malleus: "In other words, your consciousness is that of a ghost that left its body to settle into another vessel... Did I get that right?"
Ortho: "Oh~! So that's how fairies would interpret data transmission!"
(HELP? WHAT KIND OF CONVERSATION IS THIS)
Ortho confirms that yeaaaah, that's basically how it works. So he can move through electronic waves to basically anywhere, even outer space! He also explains that he probed through underwater cables too, but everything was blocked by magic... but through his desperation he realized that wireless waves were accessible to him because
"Magic is the power of one's imagination. You need to understand something to conjure it... So naturally, you can't do something about things "you don't know about"."
Ortho found Malleus' weakness and exploited it! Malleus knows what cables are, but he doesn't know about the concept of wifi. He got outsmarted because of his ignorance omfg.
Ortho: "Aren't your cybersecurity awareness a bit dull? I recommend setting up a UTM in your magic domain."
LITTLE BOY'S DISSING THE OLD MAN OMFG!! FUCKING BURNED SDAKNJSDAKLAS
Malleus: "Yuuteeehm... Is that some sort of abbreviation for a technique?"
(He's actually talking to him in a civil manner??? Malleus is surprisingly in control of the clarity of his intellect...)
Ortho: "Ehh~ you don't know what that is? That's why you're getting tricked by a junior like me. You're one of the top 5 mages in the realm and a master of unknown ancient magic but... It doesn't matter."
HE'S SO MEAN??
"I WON'T FALL ASLEEP UNDER YOUR SPELL!"
Malleus: "Hm... I see. Well, then..."
Malleus: "An unsleeping, noisy mechanical doll can be silenced by shattering it to pieces."
HE'S SUDDENLY SO MORBID
Ortho: "If you try to do that, then... "I'll show you STYX's... Humanity's greatest technological power!"
Ortho notes to himself that Malleus seems to be ignoring the data-collecting machines he's brought with him. He has 13 minutes left before the data gathering completes, so he MUST buy time until then!
Malleus: "May I ask all uninvited guests to leave at once."
#The goal is to survive again#There's no way to beat malleus because he heals 60000 a turn#twisted wonderland#ventique rambles#twst book 7 spoilers#ortho shroud#malleus draconia

AstroAnt (2025) by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Castrol. The AstroAnt payload will not now see the light of the lunar day as the Athena lander that arrived at the south polar region of the Moon on March 6, 2025 is now "declared dead", unable to recharge its batteries. This micro-rover would not explore the lunar surface, but is instead designed to rove across the surface of the Lunar Outpost MAPP rover, collecting thermal data. The lone AstroAnt is a technology demonstrator, and in future swarms of such ants could be used to monitor spacecraft operations. "The robot will be operating on the top surface of the Lunar Outpost MAPP-1 rover, equipped with a thermopile on its bottom surface for contact-less temperature measurements of the MAPP-1 rover radiator. With mobility in the Lunar gravity environment, the robot can measure temperature from different positions on the radiator and help with monitoring the performance of the thermal system, which is one of the most crucial systems of the rover. Leveraging magnetic wheels, the robot can attach to and move along the top rover surface. Both the robot and central station are equipped with Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) capability for wireless data transfer. The AstroAnt will be the first-ever miniature robotic mission on the Lunar surface, gathering data that will inform NASA's Artemis III crewed mission and demonstrating cutting-edge robotic swarms technology for planetary and deep-space exploration."
“Great fleas have little fleas upon their backs to bite 'em, And little fleas have lesser fleas, and so ad infinitum. And the great fleas themselves, in turn, have greater fleas to go on; While these again have greater still, and greater still, and so on.” - A Budget of Paradoxes by Augustus De Morgan (1872).

As disabled people around the world and as disabled diasporic Asian queers, we have been grieving heavily and finding as many ways we can to be in solidarity with Palestinians during the last 80 days of the genocide against Palestinian people.
We want to get money and resources directly to Palestinians in Gaza, however, as many people know, the blockade has made it almost impossible to get cash and resources into Gaza. One way that is possible is getting people eSims.
The Israeli Occupation Forces have attacked wifi and cellular service over and over again, which stops people from being able to get information, be in touch with their families to let them know they’re alive, and for people to get the word out about bombings and conditions in Gaza. The several times that Israel/the IOF cut off all wireless and cellular service have been chilling and also provided sites where harsh damage, murder and atrocities could occur without media coverage, period, and by the heroic young citizen journalists whose social media accounts are some of the only ways that accurate, up-to-date news has been getting out of Gaza.
On October 29th, 2023, Egyptian writer and activist Mirna El Helbawi founded #ConnectingGaza to get eSims directly to people in Gaza, with updated information about which carrier is most needed. A few weeks later, poet and organizer Jane Shi decided to sell her remaining “Immunocompromised people are worth protecting” stickers to raise funds for eSims as well as for Palestinian Youth Movement Toronto’s Community Defense Fund after her friend Divya Kaur (@soft.kaur) suggested fundraising for eSims with art and after her friend Vivian Ly and co-organizer at Masks4EastVan linked Mirna’s instructions in a group chat. Doing so was quick and easy, as her stickers were already listed on her Big Cartel page from when they were previously sold to fundraise for fires and floods impacting predominantly Indigenous families in so-called British Columbia.
Like many others across her social media feed, Jane was floored when she saw that one of the eSims she purchased, which lasts 20 days and has unlimited data, was activated, meaning that it is currently being used to connect Palestinians in Gaza to the Internet. She excitedly sent the screenshot of the activated eSim to a bunch of her friends and community members, hoping to offer some respite against the high stress of protests, social media posts, and ongoing organizing.
Amidst the onslaught of violence, criminalization of protest, egregious censorship, and grief, including for the assassination of English professor and poet Refaat Alareer, the small blue “Active” offered a glimmer of hope, however small, however inadequate.
Poet Rasha Abdulhadi, a disabled, queer Palestinian Southerner, invites us to do everything in our power to refuse the genocide against Palestinian people and in so doing, encourages us to make connections between our struggles and theirs. In their bio in The Offing and elsewhere, they share, “Wherever you are, whatever sand you can throw on the gears of genocide, do it now. If it’s a handful, throw it. If it’s a fingernail full, scrape it out and throw. Get in the way however you can. The elimination of the Palestinian people is not inevitable. We can refuse with our every breath and action. We must.” As disabled people we owe our disabled kin in Gaza to get in the way.
In the spirit of many disability justice crowdfunds, like Stacey Park Milbern’s collective fundraiser to buy the Disability Justice Culture Club in 2019, we are organizing this disabled (and ally) crowdfund to buy a shit ton of eSims.
Anything you can contribute helps. There is power in numbers. We know that as disabled/ sick/ ND/Deaf people we are often poor or broke, but we can pool our money to collectively make a big difference. We also know that there is a rich tradition of poor and working class people donating more than middle class and rich people in general, and of poor and working class disabled people sharing what we have as a form of collective access and solidarity. We also call on people with access to money and/or wealth to contribute as you can.
We are also looking for disabled orgs and collectives to connect with and move money and resources to as asked—we have listed some below. We also recognize that everyone in Gaza is now disabled due to the massive number of deaths, new disabilities, life-threatening illnesses and destruction of medical facilities going on. Such destruction also debilitates the land, water, and air, which will impact Palestinians and all surrounding life for generations to come. We owe our kin in Palestine to throw sand on the gears of genocide with our every breath.

UNITED STATES CONGRESS PASSES SERIES OF ANTI-DEMOCRATIC AND PRO-WAR BILLS DESPITE PUBLIC OPPOSITION
The United States Congress and Senate passed a series of bills, including three controversial anti-democratic and pro-war bills, two of which were tied together, on Saturday, bypassing public opinion and popular opposition to the profligate, pro-war, globalist, Neolib/Neocon agenda currently driving United States domestic and foreign policy.
Included in the bills passed was a bill to force TikTok to divest from its connections with China at risk of being banned immediately, which naturally was tied to a Foreign aid bill.
However, as even Republican Senator Rand Paul mentioned in an opinion piece in Reason Magazine, the Bill is almost certain to lead to more power for American political elites and their administrations to pressure companies like Apple and Google to further ban apps and sites that offer contradictory opinions to that of the invented narratives of the American Political class.
Before long, Americans, many of whom are already poorly informed, and heavily misinformed by their mainstream media, could lose access to critical information that contradicts the narratives of the United States government and corporate elites.
Horrifically, this only the start. The US Congress also extended the newly revised FISA spy laws, which gives the United States government the power to spy on the electronic communications of foreigners, while also conveniently sweeping up the conversations of millions of Americans, as we learned years ago thanks to the sacrifices of whistle blowers and journalists like Edward Snowden, Chelsea Manning and Julian Assange.
The new FISA Law goes further than this, however, granting US Intelligence agencies the power to spy on the wireless communications of Americans in completely new ways.
A recent Jacobin article describes these new powers as a, "radical expansion of government surveillance that would be ripe for abuse by a future authoritarian leader", or it could just be used by the authoritarian leadership we have right now, and have had for decades.
In fact, when one commentator described the new powers as "Stasi-like," Edward Snowden himself replied with a long post in which he remarked, "invocation of "Stasi-like" is not only a fair characterization of Himes' amendment, it's probably generous. The Stasi dared not even dream of what the Himes amendment provides."
The amendment in question just "tweaks" the current law's definition of an "electronic communication provider," which is being changed to "any service provider," something extremely likely to be abused by the government to force anyone with a business, a modem and people using their broadband to collect the electronic communications of those people, while also forcing their victims into silence.
The government could essentially force Americans to spy on other people and remain silent about it. Cafe's, restaurants, hotels, business landlords, shared workspaces all could get swept up into the investigations of the Intelligence agencies.
Worse still, because picking out the communications of a single user would be next to impossible, all of their victim's data would end up being surrendered to the authorities.
Sadly, the assault on Americans by their own political elites didn't end there, to top this historic day in Congress, at time when the United States public debt is growing at an astounding rate of $1 trillion every 100 days, US lawmakers also passed a series of pro-war aid packages to American allies (vassals) totalling some $95 billion.
Included in the foreign aid bill are aid packages totalling $61 billion for the Ukraine scam, $26 billion for Israel's special genocide operation in the Gaza Strip, and $8 billion to the Indo-Pacific to provoke WWIII with China, at the same time we're also provoking a nuclear holocaust with the Russian Federation.
Also buried in these aid packages is the authorization for the United States government to outright steal the oversees investments of the Russian Federation, and thereby the Russian taxpayers.
Astonishingly, and in direct opposition to the wishes of their own voters, Republican support was won without the possibility of conditioning the aid to any kind of border security, this despite the issue being among the top biggest concerns of Republican voters.
Although much of the money is to be used replenishing the heavily depleted stocks of America's weapons and munitions, it remains unclear where the munitions are expected to come from, as US defense production has remained sluggish and slow to expand despite heavy investments and demand in recent years, despite the rapid urgency with which the policy elite describe the situation.
It bodes poorly for working Americans that only a relatively small handful of lawmakers opposed the bills, producing unlikely bedfellows like Senator Bernie Sanders and Senator Mike Lee in the Senate, opposing the FISA bill.
While in the House, the loudest opposition to the foreign aid bill mostly came from populist Republicans such as Marjorie Taylor Greene, Thomas Massie and Paul Goser. Only 58 Congresmembers voted against the Foreign Aid Bill in which the TikTok ban was tucked.
Not one word from American politicians about the need to raise the minimum wage, which hasn't been increased since 2009 despite considerable inflation, nor a word about America's endlessly growing homelessness crises, property crime increases, or the 40-year stagnation of American wages, the deterioration of infrastructure, and precious little was said besides complaints about border security over the immigration crises sparked by American Imperialist adventures and US sanctions.
What we've learned today is that we are highly unlikely to see any changes to the insane behavior of the US and its allies any time soon, neither with regards to the absolutely bonkers Neocon foreign policy leading us to the edge of abyss, nor the spending-for-the-rich/austerity-for-the-poor Neoliberal domestic policy of the last 45 years.

Elana Freeland's book explores theories that chemtrails (airplane trails laden with metals, polymers and pathogens) and HAARP (a program allegedly using high-frequency waves to heat the ionosphere) are part of a covert agenda to control the environment and humanity.
Chemtrails are claimed to contaminate soil, water and human bodies, potentially causing respiratory issues, neurological disorders and Morgellons – a condition linked to bioengineered nanoparticulates.
Freeland argues that HAARP and chemtrails work together to manipulate weather, disrupt communications and enable a global wireless Smart Grid for surveillance and data collection, aiming for "full spectrum dominance."
Whistleblowers and researchers face threats and suppression, suggesting a deliberate effort to conceal the true nature and dangers of these technologies from the public.
Freeland urges global awareness, transparency and resistance to protect environmental health, human freedom and the future of the planet, emphasizing the need to question mainstream narratives and seek truth.

Terms and definitions that you can maybe apply to your fan works
I don't know anything about computer or mechanical engineering (it's very funny to me that I am in the Transformers fandom and I don't even care about cars), but I do care about improving my writing. I have gathered a list of terms that sound very sciencey and applicable to mechs, some from Martha Wells's "Murderbot Diaries," some from fanfiction/fandom (shout-out to the Crime in Crystals series by Aard_Rinn and Baebeyza, they wrote Transformers better than any Transformers comic/TV show did), and a lot from just surfing through Google and going, "well, what the hell is this? Okay, but what the hell is THAT?".
Also, as I was writing this post, I ended up getting sucked into this article:
And this really bloated my already long list of terms. Very easy to read if you want to glance it over yourself.
It's not an exhaustive list and who knows if it will be useful to you - but maybe you can reblog with your own add-ons of terms and definitions you think make a Transformers fan work just that much better.
The list is below the cut:
100% CPU Load - CPU is fully occupied with too many processors/applications/drivers/operations - not necessarily synonymous with an overload.
Actuators* - A device that causes a machine or other device to operate (Ex: a computerized unit instructs the actuator how to move the tires on a vehicle); create linear and rotary movement (Ex: A hydraulic actuator on a valve will move that valve in response to a sensor/signal); Linear actuators "move a piston back and forth inside a cylinder to build pressure and 'actuate', or complete an action".
* Think of actuators as devices that help produce linear motion and motors as devices that help produce rotational movement. Hence, some consider actuators as a type of motor. But a motor is not a type of actuator (jhfoster.com).
Alternator - Converts mechanical energy to electrical energy with an alternating current. The stator and rotor inside the alternator work as magnets and rotate to generate the alternating current. Then the alternating current (AC) is transformed into a direct current (DC) that charges the battery.
Archive (Archive files) - used to collect multiple data files together into a single file for easier portability and storage, or simply to compress files to use less storage space.
Arithmetic Log Unit (ALU) - the part of a central processing unit that carries out arithmetic and logic operations on the operands in computer instruction words. In some processors, the ALU is divided into two units: an arithmetic unit (AU) and a logic unit (LU).
Augment - Make something greater; increase.
Auxiliary Battery - Designed to run as a backup to the starting battery and provide power to some essential equipment like engine start/stop and other systems that require power while the engine is off to put less strain on the main battery and alternator.
Bandwidth - A measurement indicating the maximum capacity of a wired or wireless communications link to transmit data over a network connection in a given amount of time.
Behavioral Coding - A term used in Martha Wells' Murderbot Diaries; essential, code for behaviors.
Branch Instructions - Use programming elements like if-statements, for-loops, and return-statements; used to interrupt the program execution and switch to a different part of the code.
Branch Predictors - Track the status of previous branches to learn whether or not an upcoming branch is likely to be taken or not.
Buffer - A region of memory used to store data temporarily while it is being moved from one place to another.
Cathodes vs Anodes - Cathodes are the positive electrode while the anode is the negative electrode; electrons flow from the anode to the cathode and this creates the flow of electric charge in a battery or electrochemical cell.
Catastrophic Failure - Complete, sudden and unexpected breakdown in a machine, indicating improper maintenance.
Central Processing Unit (CPU) - Primary component of a computer that acts as its "control center"; complex set of circuitry that runs the machine's operating systems and apps; the brains of the computer. * Components: Instruction Set Architecture (ISA), Control Unit (CU), Datapath, Instruction Cycle, Registers, Combinational Logic, the Arithmetic Logic Unit (ALU), etc...
Clock - Determines how many instructions a CPU can process per second; increasing its frequency through overclocking will make instructions run faster, but will increase power consumption and heat output.
Combustion Chambers - An enclosed space in which combustion takes place, such as an engine; jet engines also have combustion chambers.
Condition Codes - Extra bits kept by a processor that summarize the results of an operation and that affect the execution of later instructions.
Control Bus - Manages the communication between the computer's CPU and its other components.
Control Unit (CU) - Manages the execution of instructions and coordinates data flow within the CPU and between other computer components.
Cybermetal - Element native to Cybertron and Cybertron alone.
Datapath - The path where data flows as it is processed; receives input, processes it, and sends it out to the right place when done processing; datapaths are told how to operate by the CU; depending on instructions, a datapath can route signals to different components, turn on and off different parts of itself, and monitor the state of the CPU.
Diagnostic and Data Repair Sequence - Term used in Martha Wells' Murderbot Diaries; exactly what it sounds like.
Diode - A semiconductor device with two terminals (a cathode and an anode), typically allowing the flow of current in one direction only.
Discrete Circuit vs Integrated Circuit- Single device with a single function (ex: Transistor, diode) vs Devices with multiple functional elements on one chip (ex: Memories, microprocessor IC and Logic IC).
Drivers - A set of files that help software (digital components, such as Microsoft Office) interface/work with hardware (physical components, such as a keyboard); allows an operating system and a device to communicate.
Electromagnetic (EM) Field - A combination of invisible electric and magnetic fields of force; used in fandom by mechs to broadcast emotions to others.
Flags - A value that acts as a signal for a function or process. The value of the flag is used to determine the next step of a program; flags are often binary flags which contain a boolean value (true or false).
Full Authority Digital Engine Control (FADEC) - Consists of an electronic control unit (ECU) and related accessors that control aircraft engine performances.
Gestation Tank - Used in mech pregnancies, you can pry it from my cold, dead hands.
Heads Up Display (HUD) - A part of the user interface that visually conveys information to the player during gameplay.
Heat Spreader - Often used in computer processors to prevent them from overheating during operation; transfers energy as heat from a hotter source to a colder heat sink or heat exchanger.
HUB - A device that connects multiple computers and devices to a local area network (LAN).
Inductive Charging - How I imagine berths work; wireless power transfer (ex: Wireless charger or charging pad used for phones).
Instruction Cycle - Also known as fetch-decode-execute cycle; basic operation performed by a CPU to execute an instruction; consists of several steps, each of which performs a specific function in the execution of the instruction.
Instruction Set Architecture (ISA) - The figurative blueprint for how the CPU operates and how all the internal systems interact with each other (I think of it like a blueprint for the brain).
Irising - Term used in fanfiction (specifically the Crime in Crystals series) to describe the action of the of the spark chamber opening ("The Talk", chapter 6, my absolute favorite chapter out of the entire series). I just really liked how the word sounded in that context.
Life Codes - "For those of us who were forged, Primus, through Vector Sigma, generated a pulse wave. Each one a data-saturated life code faster than thought, brighter than light, racing across Cybertron, sowing sparks..." (~Tyrest/Solomus, Volume 5 of More Than Meets the Eye)
Memory Hierarchy - Represents the relationship between caches, RAM, and main storage; when a CPU receives a memory instruction for a piece of data that it doesn't yet have locally in its registers, it will go down the memory hierarchy until it finds it.
Levels: L1 cache (usually smallest and fastest), L2 cache, L3 cache, RAM, and then main storage (usually biggest and slowest); available space and latency (delay) increase from one level to the next
Depending on the multi-core (a core is usually synonymous with a CPU) system, each core will have its own private L1 cache, share an L2 with one other core, and share an L3 with more or more cores.
Motors* - Any power unit that generates motion; electric motors work by converting electrical energy into mechanical energy... when this happens within a magnetic field, a force is generated which causes shaft rotation.
Multitasking Operating System - Allows users to run multiple programs and tasks almost simultaneously without losing data; manage system resources (such as computer memory and input/output devices), allocate resources, enable multiple users, and eliminate long wait times for program execution.
Network - A set of computers sharing resources located on or provided by network nodes. Computers use common communication protocols over digital interconnections to communicate with each other.
Network Feed - The continuously updating stream of content that users encounter on networking platforms.
Neural Network - A type of machine learning process that uses interconnected nodes (like neurons) to teach computers to process data in a way similar to the human brain; a form of deep learning that can help computers learn from their mistakes and improve their time.
Nimbus - A luminous cloud or a halo surrounding a supernatural being or a saint; has been used in fanfiction synonymously or in junction with the corona of the spark.
Nodes - A connection point between devices that allows data to be sent and received between them.
Oil Sump/Oil Pan - Don't forget to change your mech's oil.
Out-Of-Order Execution - A paradigm used to minimize downtime while waiting for other instructions to finish; allows a CPU to choose the most timely instructions to execute out of an instruction queue.
Overload - Orgasm; an electrical overload occurs when too much electricity passes through a circuit, exceeding its capacity; an information overload is when a system receives more input than it can process, or a state of being overwhelmed by the amount of data presented for processing.
Pedes - Feet
Pipelining - A technique used in computer architecture that allows a processor to execute multiple instructions simultaneously, improving overall performance.
Processing Capacity - The ability and speed of a processor, and how many operations it can carry out in a given amount of time.
Program Counter - A special register in a computer processor that contains the memory address (location) of the next program instruction to be executed.
Programmable Nanobots/Nanites - Cybertronian microbots programmed to do work at the molecular level; used popularly for surface healing and pigment in mechs.
Protected Storage - Provides applications with an interface to store user data that must be kept secure or free from modification; a storage method; a function in mainframe hardware.
Protoform - Formed of an ultra-dense liquid metal and are extremely hard to damage; the most basic Cybertronian form of raw, free-flowing living metal; first stage of Cybertronian life cycle
To create a Cybertronian, you need the protoform, the life-giving spark, and alt-form information.
Register - A type of computer memory built directly into the processor or CPU that is used to store and manipulate data during the execution of instructions.
Ex: "When you run a .exe on Windows... the code for that program is moved into memory and the CPU is told what address the first instruction starts at. The CPU always maintains an internal register that holds the memory location of the next instruction to be executed [the Program Counter]"...
Resource Allocations - The process of identifying and assigning available resources to a task or project to support objectives.
Risk Assessment - Focus on identifying the threats facing your information systems, networks, and data and assessing the potential consequences should these adverse events occur.
Routine - A component of a software application that performs a specific task (ex: Saving a file).
Servomechanism - A powered mechanism producing motion or force at a higher level of energy than the input level (ex: In the brakes and steering of large motor vehicles) especially where feedback is employed to make the control automatic.
Servos - Hands
Shellcode - A small piece of executable code used as a payload, built to exploit vulnerabilities in a system or carry out malicious commands. The name comes from the fact that the shellcode usually starts a command shell which allows the attacker to control the compromised machine.
Semiconductor - A material used in electrical circuits and components that partially conduct electricity.
Semiconductor materials include silicon, germanium, and selenium.
Struts - Bones; A rod or bar forming part of a framework and designed to resist compression.
System/System Unit (in computers) - A setup that consists of both hardware and software components organized to perform complex operations/The core of your computer where all the processing happens.
Task Specific Accelerator - Circuits designed to perform one small task as fast as possible (ex: Encription, media encoding & machine learning).
Teek - Used in Transformers fandom in conjunction with EM Fields; when a mech "teeks" another mech's field, they are feeling the emotions that mech is broadcasting.
Transistor - Enables a computer to follow instructions to calculate, compare and copy data.
Universal Serial Bus (USB) - A standard plug-and-play interface that allows computers and peripheral devices to connect with each other, transfer data, and share a power source; allows data exchange and delivery of power between many types of electronics; plug-and-play interface is also a type of sexual activity used in fandom.
Warren - Used to refer to a group of minibots with their own social hierarchy and culture (Seriously, read the Crime in Crystals series, it's better than canon).

Ultrathin organic-inorganic device shows promise for wireless monitoring of biomarkers
In recent years, electronics engineers have developed a wide range of wearable and implantable devices that can detect and record biological signals. These devices can help to keep track of various physiological processes, such as heart rate, arterial pulse, sleep patterns or calories burned throughout the course of the day, which can be valuable for both sports and health care-related applications. Organic electrochemical transistors (OECTs), electronic components based on flexible organic materials that can amplify biological signals, have proven promising for developing wearable technologies that monitor subtler health related signals. For instance, these flexible transistors could pick up information about glucose, lactate, cortisol and pH levels, as well as neurotransmitters and metabolites, which could be highly beneficial for diagnosing or monitoring specific medical conditions. Despite the advantages of OECTs, the data they collect must then also be transmitted to external devices, which entails the use of wireless communication circuits. These circuits are typically based on inorganic and rigid materials, which can increase the size and thickness of devices, while reducing their mechanical flexibility.

Wanted to ask how mechanical you see the animatronics as! Like, do you imagine them being closer to robots (like collecting data through cameras, microphones, touch sensors and storing info as bytes, being able to make wired/wireless connections to other technology, etc) or if you tend to think of it more organically?
— @lemonbaloni
ough this is a tough question and honestly not something i’ve thought about in detail at all 😭
If we’re talking the SL animatronics which i tend to always focus the most on bc they’re my faves, I’d say they have a really good idea of how their own bodies work but not so much other tech.
as for the wired/wireless connection to other tech I don’t think Afton would’ve wanted them hooking up to other computers n shit anyway considering all the sketchy stuff he had going on, he wouldn’t want to risk anyone being able to access their programming codes or anything and see that they’re literally built to stealthily murder lone children 😭
HOWEVER that being said, considering it’s implied via the blueprints that Circus Baby is able to remotely control Funtime Foxy (remote floor anchor) and Ballora (Deter and Misdirect Remote Activation), I think they’d be able to send signals to each other to work as teams when hunting down their latest victims (especially considering funtime foxy and ballora have no way of storing said victims, it’s only circus baby and funtime freddy that have the storage tanks so they’d have to be able to get in touch with each other secretively to handle situations like that)
I think generally being given Literal Human Sapience via remnant has made them *want* to experience life more organically but unable to? they’re mechanical but feel a more “alive” than that. idk it’s complicated i guess loll, like THEY feel like it’s organic but it Isn’t because it Can’t Be because they’re Robots
when it comes to some animatronics like the glamrocks and how they’re just SUPER advanced self-aware AI I’d imagine things would be entirely more mechanical and that’s what they’d be comfortable with
this could be a source of conflict in the glamrock ennard au, ennard doesn’t really fit in with the glamrocks because their awareness isn’t from just being an advanced AI, it’s from remnant. they were spontaneously GIVEN life, not trained how to live

Skittering Data Harvesters
Keeping your data secure is tricky. Every time you send a message electronically there is a chance of digital eavesdropping. There is not such thing as total security— your goal is to minimize risk.
So you secure your home network— VPNs, encryption, not a single ‘smart’ appliance. Ad blocker on everything, chat only on closed platforms. You do your best to minimize and anonymize your digital shadow.
But. you’re still getting targeted ads? You get a loan offer for your exact credit debt?
And then you lift your wireless router while cleaning and see a metallic shimmer as something scurries off the back of the table.
Of course. You’ve got bugs.
Literal and Figurative Bugs
As more people install ad blocker and opt out of data collection what are advertisers going to do? Stop collecting every shred of data they can about you? That sure doesn’t sound like capitalism. Turning to shady data collection by legally separate 3rd parties? That sounds a bit more likely
So in come bugs, which are small, cheap data sniffers that crawl themselves into place, collect data until their storage is full, crawl back to a public network and upload your cache. Repeat
They come in hundreds of varieties— colors, features, specializations. Most look like some variation of beetle (a good design is a good design)
They get past digital security by crawling past physical security. They are not looking at what sites you visit— they are clinging to your laptop cloning your entire hard drive. It latched on to your purse when you set it down grabbing coffee, and now you can’t get them out your apartment. You smashed a few and keep seeing more, so you are certain they built a Queen (you found the remnants of your old phone— they must have stripped it for parts)
You also learned you can’t just stomp them and throw them away. You broke the shell but the data is still there. And turns out they don’t just clone their bodies— they clone their data. So they all have your data. And they are going to sell it.
How is this even grey area legal? Because it is anonymous. They don’t target, they infect. The data is random and disorganized. Overwhelming noise to signal ratio. They are supposed to scrub all identifying details, bank info, etc.
So the reality is that it is horrific and predatory but hugely beneficial to advertisers so regulation is minimal and the legal battles protracted.
Oh, and part of the reason it’s so hard to control is that it is an opensource project. The software is on github and parts off the shelf. The hundreds of varieties of the hundreds of competing companies, trying to out perform each other, trying to snipe data from each other.
But no one is sure who wrote the original program (the github author claims to have found it on a forum and the thread gets more tangled from there)

Navigating the Digital Marketplace: Finding the Right Tools and Treatments
In today's interconnected world, the convenience of online shopping has revolutionized how we acquire everything from essential business tools to personal health remedies. The vastness of the internet offers unparalleled access to a multitude of products, but it also necessitates careful consideration to ensure you're making informed decisions. Stereo Microphone Cable This article explores the process of searching for specific items online, highlighting the importance of research, understanding product specifications, and ultimately, finding reliable sources. We'll delve into the specifics of acquiring a buy online laser barcode scanner and the considerations when looking for the best capsule for piles, alongside other common online purchases like audio cables and charging cables.
When it comes to business efficiency, a laser barcode scanner is an indispensable tool for inventory management, point-of-sale operations, and various data collection tasks. The decision to buy online laser barcode scanner opens up a world of options, from handheld scanners to fixed-mount devices. Key factors to consider include the type of barcodes it can read (1D, 2D, QR codes), its scanning speed and accuracy, connectivity options (USB, Bluetooth, wireless), durability, and compatibility with your existing systems. Reading product descriptions thoroughly and looking for reviews from other buyers can provide valuable insights into real-world performance and reliability. Comparing prices across different online retailers is also crucial to ensure you're getting the best value for your investment.
On a more personal level, dealing with health concerns often leads individuals to seek solutions online. For those suffering from piles, finding thebest capsule for piles can offer much-needed relief. The online marketplace presents a wide array of herbal remedies, dietary supplements, and over-the-counter medications. It is absolutely paramount to approach this with caution and prioritize products that are backed by scientific evidence and manufactured by reputable companies. best capsule for piles Look for ingredients lists, dosage instructions, and potential side effects. While online reviews can be helpful, it's always advisable to consult with a healthcare professional before starting any new treatment, especially for a medical condition. They can provide personalized advice and ensure the chosen remedy is safe and appropriate for your individual needs.
Beyond specialized items, everyday necessities like cables are also frequently purchased online. Whether you're a musician needing a or simply require a reliable charging cable, understanding the specifications is key. For microphone cables, factors like length, shielding (to prevent interference), connector types (XLR, TRS), and cable gauge all impact audio quality. The quality of the materials used in the cable's construction directly affects its durability and performance. Similarly, when searching for The Best Micro-USB Cable, consider the cable's length, the quality of the connectors, and its charging speed capabilities. Not all Micro-USB cables are created equal, and a poorly made cable can lead to slow charging or even damage to your device. Reading product descriptions carefully, comparing specifications, and looking for certifications (like MFi for Apple products) can help you make an informed choice.
In conclusion, the internet offers unparalleled access to a vast range of products, from business tools like laser barcode scanners to personal health remedies and everyday essentials. The ability to buy online laser barcode scanner and find the are just two examples of how online shopping has transformed our lives. Have you ever been at Arkham? Some say, witches still live there, and ancient cults offer blasphemous sacrifices to nameless gods. There, near the eerie endless river, placed one of the most dobious educational institutions ever.
Miskatonic university is famous all over the world with its science, history and anthropology classes. As prestigious as Harvard, it is attractive point for talented and noble young people, whose minds passionately desire knowledge, sometimes even that which can be called «forbidden». In the poorly lit halls you may find groups of students, and you’d be stunned by the topics of their discussions, as well as their voices whispering terrifying things about the nature of things around them;
____________________________________________
It took a lot of efforts to bring it there, but in the laboratory building there was a fragment of a meteorite that fell on a farmer's garden a couple of days ago. Dr. Crawford Tillingast with his students were astounded by the peculiar spectrum of this rock. Instantly attracting the attention of the entire Physics Department, it was determined that one couldn’t be classified as anything than you can find on the Earth or the familiar cosmic spaces.
The sensational discovery resumed the debates between scientists and conspiracy theorists, frightened by extraterrestrial intervention. It was worth completing the final analyzes on the remains of the stone before it mysteriously evaporated, when newspapers were full of headlines about the next space aliens. For Danny it was such an entertainment to periodically intervene in debates between Dr. Wilmarth and Charles Fort, as well as he couldn’t stand pseudoscience speculation. Dan was a “tough guy”, but the university committee didn’t appreciate his fiery speeches towards his opponents, especially when sometimes they were a high-ranked men. It’s no wonder that such eccentric young lad was dr. Crawford’s protégé, and only this fact prevented Dan from being expelled from the university for his boldness. Whatever, his bad reputation originates from the rare mix of golden brain and disgusting impudence.
The second thing which Dan hates more than brainless sectarians, pseudoscientists, and hillbillies with the stories about flying monsters near the Vermont, was a guy from anthropology department. He saw Watson in person only few time, but it was enough to mark him as a total cretin.
____________________________________________
Being the son of German immigrants, Watson had a strongly visible accent, and definitely could be described as a spoiled noble child. He was never popular among classmates, and his sudden mental breakdown could remain unnoticed, if his symptoms wasn’t so familiar to Arkham Asylum’s doctors.
“….The patient has fragmented visions about different time periods and places, some of them aren’t located nor on the Earth, nor on the other noted planets. From the seizure to seizure, he always claims about his contact with alien race from the “far away in space and time”. The patient called it as “The Great Race of Yith”, or the “masters”, as he always refers to them. The aliens ran the program of mind transfer, or more particularly, the research area between neurology and wireless technologies. According to the statements from patient’s fits, the aliens collected the information from the different intellectual creatures around the space and time. They used something resembled to classical writing the data, which was obviously very fragile and short-lived option. Trying to avoid the loss of the data they started to search for another source which could contain the data for a long. As it was said, the Yithians was very familiar to the mind transfer, and conversion their writings to electromagnetic code of the brain was an idea how to send the message for distant miles and times, without someone else's interruption. Subsequently, theaim was to converted the knowledge they collected to one informantional carrier…”—the doctor reported.
As suddenly as he fainted, Watson came back to his normal mental state, as if nothing happened, he denied everything he said before. But something really changed, as well as he recalled something time to time. It was a big deal to go back to the university, especially with the fact that he suffers from permanent headaches, but he did a really good job at his new anthropology studies. After all, beside university doors he still being extremely attracted to art galleries, especially he enjoyed the works of one infamous artist from Boston, so Watson spent tons of money to redeem all the Richard U. Pickman’s art.

my dream mc modpack is i think
create and tinkers. disable slime islands.
massively nerf storage. the player's inventory and backpacks stay the same, but otherwise 1 m^2 is a max of 10 item types and 64 items total.
in exchange for that, it's easy to make multi block storage or to unify multiple storage blocks into one interface like ae2. By the early midgame "ah, I need more cobblestone, let me add another cobblestone warehouse" is easy.
you CANNOT void items. If an item would despawn, it places itself on the ground if it can. If it's not a block, it places a "refuse layer" that stack up and form piles. and if it can't find a valid placement location then the chunk starts dealing damage ticks to you because fuck you! don't try and cheat my system
whenever possible, gathering items should impact the world. mining requires leaving mines and spoil tips, forestry and farming require space, industrial processes are larger and get larger the higher tech they are. Solar power takes up actual space, no "tier 5 draconic solar panel" shit. (When possible this isn't just "10x10x10 multiblock" it's a series of machines that need to work together.)
uneven resource distribution, you have to go different places for different ores, i love when modpacks do this
There's an early item called the drafting table that lets you enter into spectator mode with copy/paste and worldedit features within a range around the drafting table. Inventories linked to the drafting table get used by construction bots to construct and deconstruct. Expanding the range and capabilities of your drafting table is an important part of the mod. To get you started it has an inventory the size of 10 double chests, but you can't place two drafting tables within range of one another.
Construction bots can mine natural blocks but they can't collect them, and produces a refuse item that has to be disposed of. to 1) encourage actual mining solutions and 2) let you build underground bases without creating literal mountains of spoil. only a large amount of it.
Chisel mod but more. Most decorative blocks are unified into 20 'structural base' blocks that can be stonecuttered into a variety of decorative blocks. So e.g. you automate 'wooden structure block' which can be stonecut (in the drafting table ui this is a radial menu or something) into logs, stripped, planks, slabs, various 'chisel' textures all at a 1-1 ratio. When mined, they drop as 'x structure block', preventing you from needing to micromanage which building blocks you have enough of. eg you don't say 'shit i need more mossy bricks', you say 'i need more stone structural blocks' which means bigger factory, not crafting montage.
easy and convenient wireless redstone and wireless storage info, but no ender chest stuff. data is easy to get from a to b, and materials require infrastructure.
thermal dynamics viaducts are the primary player transportation thing, bc i think they rule extremely hard. lategame transportation is the jump clone ichun mod. and/or getting fired out of artillery. you gotta water bucket clutch tho
none of that 'oh the endgame is making creative items with omega crafting' shit. you launch a rocket into the sun (the joke is that this is the only way to truly void items, so it is the Ultimate Tech) and the credits play. there can be 'postgame' stuff but i hate a modpack that overstays its welcome and makes 100%ing it the only 'winning'.

i am particularly enamored with mystery gifts distributed in real life locations over local wireless or physical link cables and stuff. i don't even know how to explain why? i mean they're cool on the basis of being exclusive collectibles and also cool on the basis of people working hard to document and preserve their data... but like. i think in general pokemon in real life really takes my interest since pokemon when i was younger was very much a lonely isolated thing that i did entirely on my own, i never had the social real life pokemon experience that was a core part of the series until adulthood, and so i think i'm just really wistful and feel very surreal about the idea of gathering in a room and having a real life person plug a cable into your gba sp to give you a mew and stuff like that. it makes the pokemon experience tangible i guess.
and while real life events were really inaccessible, and it sucked if you lived somewhere that either didn't get events at all or you were unable to travel, especially as a child, now in retrospect it's easier than ever to learn about these events online and get them yourself so many years after the fact. it's like a cool relic of the culture of the time before the internet Dominated Society. local pokemon events are rarer and smaller in scope now and i think that's too bad.
like sure shiny online mythicals are cool but my favorite event pokemon i own from the switch games is my pichu that my friend from korea had to go to a real life movie theater to get me, because how fucking cool is that? someone went somewhere in real life to get that code for me. a friend from across oceans. as much as mystery gifts represent exclusivity and FOMO they can also represent memories and people and i think that's really fucking cool. i think seeing them as a soulless way to keep people hooked on pokemon is overly cynical

Cell-site simulators mimic cell towers to intercept communications, indiscriminately collecting sensitive data such as call metadata, location information, and app traffic from all phones within their range. Their use has drawn widespread criticism from privacy advocates and activists, who argue that such technology can be exploited to covertly monitor protestors and suppress dissent.
The DNC convened amid widespread protests over Israel’s assault on Gaza. While credentialed influencers attended exclusive yacht parties and VIP events, thousands of demonstrators faced a heavy law enforcement presence, including officers from the US Capitol Police, Secret Service, Homeland Security Investigations, local sheriff’s offices, and Chicago police.
Concerns over potential surveillance prompted WIRED to conduct a first-of-its-kind wireless survey to investigate whether cell-site simulators were being deployed. Reporters, equipped with two rooted Android phones and Wi-Fi hotspots running detection software, used Rayhunter—a tool developed by the EFF [Electronic Frontier Foundation] to detect data anomalies associated with these devices. WIRED’s reporters monitored signals at protests and event locations across Chicago, collecting extensive data during the political convention.
...According to the EFF’s analysis, on August 18—the day before the convention officially began—a device carried by WIRED reporters en route a hotel housing Democratic delegates from states in the US Midwest abruptly switched to a new tower. That tower asked for the device’s IMSI and then immediately disconnected—a sequence consistent with the operation of a cell-site simulator.
“This is extremely suspicious behavior that normal towers do not exhibit,” Quintin [a senior technologist at the EFF] says. He notes that the EFF typically observed similar patterns only during simulated and controlled attacks. “This is not 100 percent incontrovertible truth, but it’s strong evidence suggesting a cell-site simulator was deployed. We don’t know who was responsible—it could have been the US government, foreign actors, or another entity.”
