Hello, I was wondering if you could explain what physical shifting is? I keep seeing the term around and I don't understand. Also the term "physical therian." Signed, confused critter!
So, despite their initially similar appearance, these two terms and communities have pretty different histories.
Physical shifting and its counterpart community, p-shifters, revolve around the belief that one can physically turn into their species, werewolf style, in the shared world (meaning that if they did it in front of you, you would see it. They generally believe that its as real as your kitchen table, to everyone.) Historically, p-shifters have been associated heavily with online cults and promises of being able to teach young therians to transform physically if they have the elusive shifting gene.
However, recently, physically identifying nonhumans have been having a bit of a Renaissance, with a few changes, and this is where the term "physical therian" started growing popularity. Physical therians, holotheres, and a few other terms now usually refer to those with beliefs and experiences ranging from "I am an animal and this is my body. Therefore, it is an animal's body", to transspeciesism, to clinical zoanthropes and those with other delusions that influence them to experience themselves as physically and animal. These individuals ask that you respect that physically being an animal is real to them and a part of their personal reality, but generally don't demand that you believe they can transform in the shared visible reality. They also don't generally try to spread their beliefs or impose on other's realities by trying to teach them how to shift or making sweeping generalizations about how everyone else's shifting has to work, a marked difference from the norm in older p-shifter communities.
As a disclaimer, the lines between these groups can be quite blurry, and this is all heavily simplified for brevity. Some p-shifters hold beliefs more similar to those of physical therians, and visa versa.

Terms and definitions that you can maybe apply to your fan works
I don't know anything about computer or mechanical engineering (it's very funny to me that I am in the Transformers fandom and I don't even care about cars), but I do care about improving my writing. I have gathered a list of terms that sound very sciencey and applicable to mechs, some from Martha Wells's "Murderbot Diaries," some from fanfiction/fandom (shout-out to the Crime in Crystals series by Aard_Rinn and Baebeyza, they wrote Transformers better than any Transformers comic/TV show did), and a lot from just surfing through Google and going, "well, what the hell is this? Okay, but what the hell is THAT?".
Also, as I was writing this post, I ended up getting sucked into this article:
And this really bloated my already long list of terms. Very easy to read if you want to glance it over yourself.
It's not an exhaustive list and who knows if it will be useful to you - but maybe you can reblog with your own add-ons of terms and definitions you think make a Transformers fan work just that much better.
The list is below the cut:
100% CPU Load - CPU is fully occupied with too many processors/applications/drivers/operations - not necessarily synonymous with an overload.
Actuators* - A device that causes a machine or other device to operate (Ex: a computerized unit instructs the actuator how to move the tires on a vehicle); create linear and rotary movement (Ex: A hydraulic actuator on a valve will move that valve in response to a sensor/signal); Linear actuators "move a piston back and forth inside a cylinder to build pressure and 'actuate', or complete an action".
* Think of actuators as devices that help produce linear motion and motors as devices that help produce rotational movement. Hence, some consider actuators as a type of motor. But a motor is not a type of actuator (jhfoster.com).
Alternator - Converts mechanical energy to electrical energy with an alternating current. The stator and rotor inside the alternator work as magnets and rotate to generate the alternating current. Then the alternating current (AC) is transformed into a direct current (DC) that charges the battery.
Archive (Archive files) - used to collect multiple data files together into a single file for easier portability and storage, or simply to compress files to use less storage space.
Arithmetic Log Unit (ALU) - the part of a central processing unit that carries out arithmetic and logic operations on the operands in computer instruction words. In some processors, the ALU is divided into two units: an arithmetic unit (AU) and a logic unit (LU).
Augment - Make something greater; increase.
Auxiliary Battery - Designed to run as a backup to the starting battery and provide power to some essential equipment like engine start/stop and other systems that require power while the engine is off to put less strain on the main battery and alternator.
Bandwidth - A measurement indicating the maximum capacity of a wired or wireless communications link to transmit data over a network connection in a given amount of time.
Behavioral Coding - A term used in Martha Wells' Murderbot Diaries; essential, code for behaviors.
Branch Instructions - Use programming elements like if-statements, for-loops, and return-statements; used to interrupt the program execution and switch to a different part of the code.
Branch Predictors - Track the status of previous branches to learn whether or not an upcoming branch is likely to be taken or not.
Buffer - A region of memory used to store data temporarily while it is being moved from one place to another.
Cathodes vs Anodes - Cathodes are the positive electrode while the anode is the negative electrode; electrons flow from the anode to the cathode and this creates the flow of electric charge in a battery or electrochemical cell.
Catastrophic Failure - Complete, sudden and unexpected breakdown in a machine, indicating improper maintenance.
Central Processing Unit (CPU) - Primary component of a computer that acts as its "control center"; complex set of circuitry that runs the machine's operating systems and apps; the brains of the computer. * Components: Instruction Set Architecture (ISA), Control Unit (CU), Datapath, Instruction Cycle, Registers, Combinational Logic, the Arithmetic Logic Unit (ALU), etc...
Clock - Determines how many instructions a CPU can process per second; increasing its frequency through overclocking will make instructions run faster, but will increase power consumption and heat output.
Combustion Chambers - An enclosed space in which combustion takes place, such as an engine; jet engines also have combustion chambers.
Condition Codes - Extra bits kept by a processor that summarize the results of an operation and that affect the execution of later instructions.
Control Bus - Manages the communication between the computer's CPU and its other components.
Control Unit (CU) - Manages the execution of instructions and coordinates data flow within the CPU and between other computer components.
Cybermetal - Element native to Cybertron and Cybertron alone.
Datapath - The path where data flows as it is processed; receives input, processes it, and sends it out to the right place when done processing; datapaths are told how to operate by the CU; depending on instructions, a datapath can route signals to different components, turn on and off different parts of itself, and monitor the state of the CPU.
Diagnostic and Data Repair Sequence - Term used in Martha Wells' Murderbot Diaries; exactly what it sounds like.
Diode - A semiconductor device with two terminals (a cathode and an anode), typically allowing the flow of current in one direction only.
Discrete Circuit vs Integrated Circuit- Single device with a single function (ex: Transistor, diode) vs Devices with multiple functional elements on one chip (ex: Memories, microprocessor IC and Logic IC).
Drivers - A set of files that help software (digital components, such as Microsoft Office) interface/work with hardware (physical components, such as a keyboard); allows an operating system and a device to communicate.
Electromagnetic (EM) Field - A combination of invisible electric and magnetic fields of force; used in fandom by mechs to broadcast emotions to others.
Flags - A value that acts as a signal for a function or process. The value of the flag is used to determine the next step of a program; flags are often binary flags which contain a boolean value (true or false).
Full Authority Digital Engine Control (FADEC) - Consists of an electronic control unit (ECU) and related accessors that control aircraft engine performances.
Gestation Tank - Used in mech pregnancies, you can pry it from my cold, dead hands.
Heads Up Display (HUD) - A part of the user interface that visually conveys information to the player during gameplay.
Heat Spreader - Often used in computer processors to prevent them from overheating during operation; transfers energy as heat from a hotter source to a colder heat sink or heat exchanger.
HUB - A device that connects multiple computers and devices to a local area network (LAN).
Inductive Charging - How I imagine berths work; wireless power transfer (ex: Wireless charger or charging pad used for phones).
Instruction Cycle - Also known as fetch-decode-execute cycle; basic operation performed by a CPU to execute an instruction; consists of several steps, each of which performs a specific function in the execution of the instruction.
Instruction Set Architecture (ISA) - The figurative blueprint for how the CPU operates and how all the internal systems interact with each other (I think of it like a blueprint for the brain).
Irising - Term used in fanfiction (specifically the Crime in Crystals series) to describe the action of the of the spark chamber opening ("The Talk", chapter 6, my absolute favorite chapter out of the entire series). I just really liked how the word sounded in that context.
Life Codes - "For those of us who were forged, Primus, through Vector Sigma, generated a pulse wave. Each one a data-saturated life code faster than thought, brighter than light, racing across Cybertron, sowing sparks..." (~Tyrest/Solomus, Volume 5 of More Than Meets the Eye)
Memory Hierarchy - Represents the relationship between caches, RAM, and main storage; when a CPU receives a memory instruction for a piece of data that it doesn't yet have locally in its registers, it will go down the memory hierarchy until it finds it.
Levels: L1 cache (usually smallest and fastest), L2 cache, L3 cache, RAM, and then main storage (usually biggest and slowest); available space and latency (delay) increase from one level to the next
Depending on the multi-core (a core is usually synonymous with a CPU) system, each core will have its own private L1 cache, share an L2 with one other core, and share an L3 with more or more cores.
Motors* - Any power unit that generates motion; electric motors work by converting electrical energy into mechanical energy... when this happens within a magnetic field, a force is generated which causes shaft rotation.
Multitasking Operating System - Allows users to run multiple programs and tasks almost simultaneously without losing data; manage system resources (such as computer memory and input/output devices), allocate resources, enable multiple users, and eliminate long wait times for program execution.
Network - A set of computers sharing resources located on or provided by network nodes. Computers use common communication protocols over digital interconnections to communicate with each other.
Network Feed - The continuously updating stream of content that users encounter on networking platforms.
Neural Network - A type of machine learning process that uses interconnected nodes (like neurons) to teach computers to process data in a way similar to the human brain; a form of deep learning that can help computers learn from their mistakes and improve their time.
Nimbus - A luminous cloud or a halo surrounding a supernatural being or a saint; has been used in fanfiction synonymously or in junction with the corona of the spark.
Nodes - A connection point between devices that allows data to be sent and received between them.
Oil Sump/Oil Pan - Don't forget to change your mech's oil.
Out-Of-Order Execution - A paradigm used to minimize downtime while waiting for other instructions to finish; allows a CPU to choose the most timely instructions to execute out of an instruction queue.
Overload - Orgasm; an electrical overload occurs when too much electricity passes through a circuit, exceeding its capacity; an information overload is when a system receives more input than it can process, or a state of being overwhelmed by the amount of data presented for processing.
Pedes - Feet
Pipelining - A technique used in computer architecture that allows a processor to execute multiple instructions simultaneously, improving overall performance.
Processing Capacity - The ability and speed of a processor, and how many operations it can carry out in a given amount of time.
Program Counter - A special register in a computer processor that contains the memory address (location) of the next program instruction to be executed.
Programmable Nanobots/Nanites - Cybertronian microbots programmed to do work at the molecular level; used popularly for surface healing and pigment in mechs.
Protected Storage - Provides applications with an interface to store user data that must be kept secure or free from modification; a storage method; a function in mainframe hardware.
Protoform - Formed of an ultra-dense liquid metal and are extremely hard to damage; the most basic Cybertronian form of raw, free-flowing living metal; first stage of Cybertronian life cycle
To create a Cybertronian, you need the protoform, the life-giving spark, and alt-form information.
Register - A type of computer memory built directly into the processor or CPU that is used to store and manipulate data during the execution of instructions.
Ex: "When you run a .exe on Windows... the code for that program is moved into memory and the CPU is told what address the first instruction starts at. The CPU always maintains an internal register that holds the memory location of the next instruction to be executed [the Program Counter]"...
Resource Allocations - The process of identifying and assigning available resources to a task or project to support objectives.
Risk Assessment - Focus on identifying the threats facing your information systems, networks, and data and assessing the potential consequences should these adverse events occur.
Routine - A component of a software application that performs a specific task (ex: Saving a file).
Servomechanism - A powered mechanism producing motion or force at a higher level of energy than the input level (ex: In the brakes and steering of large motor vehicles) especially where feedback is employed to make the control automatic.
Servos - Hands
Shellcode - A small piece of executable code used as a payload, built to exploit vulnerabilities in a system or carry out malicious commands. The name comes from the fact that the shellcode usually starts a command shell which allows the attacker to control the compromised machine.
Semiconductor - A material used in electrical circuits and components that partially conduct electricity.
Semiconductor materials include silicon, germanium, and selenium.
Struts - Bones; A rod or bar forming part of a framework and designed to resist compression.
System/System Unit (in computers) - A setup that consists of both hardware and software components organized to perform complex operations/The core of your computer where all the processing happens.
Task Specific Accelerator - Circuits designed to perform one small task as fast as possible (ex: Encription, media encoding & machine learning).
Teek - Used in Transformers fandom in conjunction with EM Fields; when a mech "teeks" another mech's field, they are feeling the emotions that mech is broadcasting.
Transistor - Enables a computer to follow instructions to calculate, compare and copy data.
Universal Serial Bus (USB) - A standard plug-and-play interface that allows computers and peripheral devices to connect with each other, transfer data, and share a power source; allows data exchange and delivery of power between many types of electronics; plug-and-play interface is also a type of sexual activity used in fandom.
Warren - Used to refer to a group of minibots with their own social hierarchy and culture (Seriously, read the Crime in Crystals series, it's better than canon).

Why use them in witchcraft?
These terms aren’t just vocabulary. They’re tools for understanding. Knowing what these words mean helps you build confidence, communicate clearly with other witches, and deepen your connection to your own practice. Whether you’re reading a book, watching a video, or writing in your grimoire, you’ll run into these concepts again and again.
Many of these terms come with layers of symbolism, history, and cultural significance. Learning them helps you approach your craft with more awareness and respect. They also help organize your thoughts, so instead of just “doing a thing,” you’ll understand why you’re doing it, what it’s called, and what it connects to energetically or traditionally.
Think of them like tools in a toolbox or ingredients in a kitchen. The more you know about what’s available to you, the more creative and intentional you can be in your craft.
Beginner Tips
Don’t stress about memorizing everything. It’s okay to look things up and learn as you go. Witchcraft is a journey, not a test.
Start with what interests you. If one category (like tools or moon phases) really calls to you, start there and branch out at your own pace.
Keep a glossary in your grimoire or Book of Shadows. It can be super helpful to write down terms in your own words as you learn them.
Ask questions. No one starts off knowing everything, and most experienced witches are happy to help or share insights. Like me!
Notice where terms come from. Some concepts come from specific traditions or cultures. Learning their roots can deepen your understanding and help you avoid misusing sacred practices.
Let the meanings evolve with your path. Some words may mean different things in different traditions or to different witches, and that’s okay. Your relationship with these terms can shift as your practice grows.
Cautions and Ethics
Respect cultural origins. Some terms or practices (like smudging or spirit work) have deep roots in closed or Indigenous traditions. Take time to learn where things come from and whether they’re appropriate for you to use.
Avoid gatekeeping, but do value accuracy. While everyone’s path is different, spreading misinformation or using terms incorrectly can cause confusion and disrespect traditions.
Be mindful of energy and consent. If your practice involves others (even energetically), make sure it’s ethical and consensual. For example, many witches choose not to cast spells that affect another person’s will without permission.
Don’t use tools or terms as a status symbol. It’s not about how fancy your altar is or how many buzzwords you know. It’s about intention and understanding.
Learn before you cast. Having a basic grasp of the terms related to your spell or ritual helps you stay focused and safe. It’s easy to get overwhelmed or confused if you’re not sure what each step means.
Watch for burnout. Trying to learn everything at once can feel exciting, but also exhausting. It’s okay to take breaks and absorb things over time.
How to incorporate them into your practice
Use them as a foundation. These terms give you a solid base for understanding the deeper aspects of witchcraft. As you explore rituals, spells, or tools, keep these concepts in mind. They’ll help you make sense of your experiences.
Build your practice around what feels right. For example, if you’re drawn to lunar energy, focus on lunar magic and moon phases. As you get comfortable with these terms, you’ll naturally weave them into your practice.
Reflect on their meanings. Spend time meditating on what each term means to you personally. How does the concept of “earth” feel in your body? What does “spirit” represent to you in your witchcraft?
Experiment with tools and rituals. You don’t need to start with a full altar or fancy tools. Use what you have. Even a simple candle or crystal can become an effective tool when you understand its correspondences and use it intentionally.
Let your practice evolve. Over time, your understanding of these terms will shift and grow with your journey. You might start with the basics and later dive into more complex meanings and practices.
Incorporate one term at a time. If you’re unsure where to start, focus on one category, like divination or ritual work, and explore it deeply. This will help you feel more grounded and connected to the terms and their purpose.
My Experience / Notes
As I’ve worked in my practice for 10 years now, I’ve found that these terms don’t just define aspects of witchcraft. They become living parts of my practice. Some of these concepts felt abstract at first, but over time, they began to feel more like guides or tools I could actually work with. For example, the idea of the circle felt like a nice, symbolic practice, but when I started actively casting circles before my rituals, it gave me a sense of focus and protection I hadn’t anticipated.
The tools (athame, wand, chalice, etc.) were things I didn’t always feel I needed at first. I wasn’t sure if I was “doing it right,” and I was hesitant about needing special items to practice. But when I started using tools like a simple candle or a crystal in rituals, I realized how much they enhanced the energy of the moment. It wasn’t about the items themselves, but the intention behind them and how they helped me channel focus.
Also, divination was something that felt a bit intimidating. The idea of using tarot or a pendulum for answers seemed like something I needed to be “expert” at. But once I let go of the pressure to have everything figured out, I realized that divination was more about trust in myself and in the process. It’s a tool for reflection, not an exact science. Starting small, using one card from a tarot deck, or learning how to feel energy through a pendulum, helped me build confidence over time.
Lastly, ethics is crucial. In my early days, I didn’t always understand the importance of ethical boundaries in magic. As I learned more, I found that working with energy responsibly and respectfully created much more fulfilling experiences. The more I understood the origins of practices and their personal power, the more respectful and intentional my practice became.

I feel so dum, but it may have to be because I'm so freeking new to the consept XD. Can you pleace explane the Whump part. What makes a story a Whump story? Are there anything new to the consept has to be aware of? I see this whamp-somthing alot and alwas wanted to be apart of them, but haven could find anything about what the whump part is all about *felling embarrassment here.
No need to be embarrassed! It's a common question.
Whump is when a character gets sick or hurt or goes through a painful experience. Sometimes they'll receive comfort through it, sometimes they won't. The character suffering is called the whumpee, an ally who helps them get through it is called the caretaker, and someone who's causing the pain is called a whumper. Whump can be anything from getting a common cold to being tortured. Just depends on the content and how extreme the creator wants it to be!

"Tormentlore" - ("torment" - pain, suffering, anguish, or a state of being deeply troubled.) and ("lore" - knowledge, especially traditional knowledge or wisdom passed down through generations.) It is a term to use in a fantasy novel, a dark poem, or even a philosophical essay exploring the nature of human suffering.
"Tormentlore" means:
The history or traditions of pain and hardship. This could involve stories, myths, and rituals related to suffering, both individual and collective.
The art of inflicting suffering. This could refer to a dark or cruel form of knowledge, perhaps used for manipulation or control.
Tormentlore important for writers detectives, thrillers, horror novels. Ways of torturing main character or victim can introduce the villain of the story, motives and why they must be stopped. Tormentlore collects knowledge and helps writers to make an memorable and cruel villain.
"Tormentlorist" - is a person who studies or collects the ways of causing suffering, inquisition and torture in order to potentially use it in fiction work.

Extremely dangerous how "grooming" in the context of child sexual abuse went from being a very specific pattern of isolation and trust-building with the aim of abusing someone to "telling children anything that contradicts their parents' ultra-conservative worldview is grooming" to "selling rainbow flags in a store is grooming" to "literally anyone I don't like is a groomer".
These days the word seems to most often be used by people who don't care about what it actually means and just want an easy "this person is irredeemably evil, kill them now" button.
#conservatives accusing people they don't like of being child abusers is not new to be clear#I'm just talking about how they're making this term much less useful by damaging its definition#100#1k#2k#3k#4k#5k#10k#15k#20k#25k#30k#40k

absolutely hilarious to me that agatha calls rio a bad boy when in reality rio is actually the rule following jock with infinite patience and care who brings you flowers on a first date.
agatha on the other hand is the snarky girl who gets into arguements with her teacher about the smallest details in the lecture and is constantly getting detention for cursing someone out. she's top of all her classes tho.
#she's the bad influence#rio is literally just along for the ride#this came to me because i was thinking about how rio follows the laws of the universe#and how agatha tries to defy them at every fucking term#like no agatha babe rio isnt the bad boy she's the golden boy you take home to your parents and your mom starts planning your wedding#there is fic potential in here but im not a writer so if anyone else wants to take a shot go ahead#agatha harkness#rio vidal#agatha x rio#agathario#agatha all along#kathryn hahn#aubrey plaza#rio definitely has a jealousy streak tho and she will get violent if threatened

I think it would be funny if Bruce found out about Danny Phantom-style ghosts and immediately started reading the leading scientific research on the topic, which of course comes from the Doctors Fenton. So he's got like, a basis of knowledge, and decides to bring in a magic expert. He asks Constantine what he knows about ectoplasm and the Ghost Zone, and Constantine just groans. He can tell you've been reading materials by those Fenton quacks, Bruce. It's called the Infinite Realms you dolt. "Ghost Zone" isn't just inaccurate it's borderline offensive. If you want to call the un-matter of the Infinite Realms "ectoplasm" then sure, go ahead, see how many ghosts want to talk to you. Don't internalize that dehumanizing slop.
So Bruce mentally notes all of that down, and when he finally meets a ghost he makes sure to use the right terminology for the Infinite Realms, and Danny is like, "haha, you mean the Ghost Zone?"
Constantine receives a very passive aggressive email.
#how are either of them to know that Bruce met the one ghost who would definitely be using Fenton terminology#in case it's not clear since the fentons never talked to any ghosts they just came up with their own terms and definitions#and since danny grew up with that of course he uses them#i think danylny does know the traditional words for GZ stuff but he doesn't use them exceot in formal settings#my rambles#dp x dc#dpxdc#danny phantom#dc#batfam

january month of yuugi
#yugioh#ygo dm#yugi mutou#idk what was in the water on 2025 opening but it really got me thinking hm. I will finally draw yuugi#ygo has been in my dna for like close to a decade at this point and yet. I have never attempted to draw anything for it#until now. my audacity has finally reached quota#wishshipping saved my ass this lunar new year and its not even an exaggeration. thank you kazuki takahashi for the boys. rest in peace#mutou yuugi I love u.... u r my son#not mentioned in this stack but dsod's decision to thin yuugi's choker is the funniest shittiest character design decision on earth#like as a detail its so nothing. when u zoom out it just looks like a shadow dropped wrong somewhere. I have come to terms with#the other fashion choice for him in that movie but the tiny ass choker I don't accept. that's stupid. big it#I rly like the vision of older yuugi being like. obnoxiously polite and cheerful#specifically in a way that's not like ceding space for everyone else. like it's clear at all time that he's Like That#and nobody will be able to stop him from being Like That#and also tbh I can never imagine him leaving domino for long (<- definitely not projecting my city slicker ass on him)#I think the game shop's been where he's safe to be himself for so long that he'd want to keep it running and extend#that shade to other kids in the city too. his loyal customers are so scared of disappointing him for no reason#.... typed huge wall of text abt jou leaving domino for tournaments etc frequently but always coming back to hang out with yuugi#I am actually ill abt them huh.... maybe ygo was the progenitor honestly maybe it started me on the two blokes who do fuckall ships#yuugi is so cute but I do know in my heart tho he does Not cook. that kid has never learned and will never manage#I know he doesnt even have water in his office whenever he works. scared of spilling#its a good thing hes got friends galore now people are blowing his phone up wasting their sms toll telling him to drink water#(slowly tipping into mania) I just think he's so neat. love that boy he's so cute

Part four of old GF sketches
The twin thing, Stan and Ford edition
#fanart#gravity falls#stanley pines#stanford pines#i saw a lot of posts pushing the big/little sibling titles on these two when I was drawing this#i won't say it's irrelevant to their characters#(though it comes up way less with Dipper and Mabel)#but as someone with a twin and other siblings very close in age#I've only used 'big/little' instead of 'older/younger' as a joke#other families definitely care more than us#so my opinion is that Ford cares very much about being the 'older' sibling that sets the example and has a respectable title#and Stan has never thought about Ford in these terms in his life#being in their late fifties/sixties just makes it worse for him
