"Why is my spell failing?"
There are many reasons why your spellwork may not work. Here we will explore six of them.
1. Details are missing.
When you miss out important information, such as the time span that you want your spell to work in, the spell may be delayed in working, or the way it works may be different to how you wanted it to.
2. Minimal mundane efforts.
Even though magick is good for assisting you, you should still make other efforts to fulfill your goals alongside your spells. For example, if you cast a spell to help you get a job, but you are not making any applications to companies, you are not going to get a job. It's not the spells' fault, it's made to assist you, not to do all the work.
3. Minimal energy.
If you rush through a spell, missing seemingly unimportant steps and not spending much time raising your energy, you won't have enough energy to successfully cast a spell that works well. Try casting it again, spending time on raising your energy and following each step.
4. Frame of mind.
If you are not in the right frame of mind when casting the spell (you are unfocused, overtired or anxious for example), you may list concentration and not correctly cast the spell.
5. Barriers.
When you are CONSENTUALLY casting a spell for another person they need to temporarily lower any barriers or wards they keep up so that your spell can actually work for them. Without this, they won't feel any effects. Note: never cast a working on someone without asking permission, unless it is a baneful working, such as a hex, curse or jinx.
6. Skimping on the essentials.
Not every ingredient can be substituted (I'm looking at YOU, rosemary and clear quartz!). However much these two "catch all" components can be helpful when you're missing an ingredient, they shouldn't be overused. Too much generic substitution can weaken the energy and efficacy of the spellwork.
Tumblr media
I hope this helps anyone who needs to troubleshoot their spellwork! Have a good day :D

Using tarot to read on magical events in your own practice: quick theory, new card meanings, and spread ideas
this post is OC based on my personal tarot practice; the examples given are hypothetical for the sake of this post.
Tumblr media
Well-meaning guy: "If you think that event was a bad omen, why not read tarot to clarify?"
Person who learned tarot from popular online resources and introspection-focused art decks: "I drew the 6/Cups, so I guess my ward falling off the wall is about my inner child?"
Tumblr media
Tarot meanings change and evolve over time. Historical meanings are often not the same, or even contrary to, modern meanings. (Consider, 6/Pentacles: the French present moment was misinterpreted to mean presents, gifts).
By acknowledging that many modern meanings available for tarot cards are modern interpretations for modern concerns, many of which have fuckall to do with witchcraft, we can also acknowledge that we can apply our own sets of meanings to tarot to achieve personal interpretations in pursuit of personal goals.
I call this concept symbol sets, and you can apply your own symbol sets to certain tarot readings in order to rapidly obtain information about magical events in your life.
Tumblr media
Symbol sets can be swapped out for each reading. You can intend to operate on your "normal meanings" for a typical reading, and then intend to operate with "magical omen meanings" for another reading.
There are no such things as universal tarot card meanings; there are some traditional meanings, some historical meanings, and many modern meanings. Adjust what each card means to you to your heart's delight.
The more symbol sets I've developed and practiced with, the more versatile and accurate my tarot reading has become. Working with custom symbol sets might be the single biggest leap in my reading ability in 16 years of practice. At least, it feels that way!
Tumblr media
Quick n' Dirty Symbol Set for Magical Omens, Appropriate for Everyday Use
1. Apply general portents to each suit which matches your magical practice.
Here is one set that could be suitable to troubleshooting potentially magic events:
Swords, or Air: Misfortune, betrayal, malefica, ill-intent, adversity, due to harmful (even if unintentional) spirit action, pointless or wasted effort. Sometimes, banishing, binding and hexes.
Wands, or Fire: A lot of power, excessive power, due to your own actions, uncontained energy, something you did was very much overdone. Sometimes, protection and empowerment.
Pentacles, or Earth: Mundane, physical and normal reasons, an everyday occurrence, mundane but natural growth and change. Sometimes, unlocking and unblocking.
Cups, or Water: Blessings, magic working as intended (even if unexpectedly), the normal course of magical events, magical growth and change. Sometimes, cleansing and purifying.
Major Arcana: Guiding spirits and gods; their behaviors, guidance, or messages.
A spirit worker might like to add an additional layer of complexity, which modifies the prior set:
Court Cards: The actions of another being, such as a practitioner, god, or spirit, whether they acted intentionally to bring about the event or not.
(Further breakdown, as an example: Swords courts are beings intentionally acting badly; Wands courts are the most important spirits of your path; Pentacles courts are mundane folk or spirits unrelated to your path; Water courts are other practitioners, or spirits related to your path without being in your "inner court.")
Interpret any card drawn within these principles. Here are a few random examples. Let's say, a money spell has failed to produce results, and we'd like to know why.
5/Cups [disappointment, failure]: This is the normal course of magical events; the spell wasn't cast well, and so nothing is happening.
9/Wands [determination, boundaries]: A lot of energy was raised, but incorrectly targeted or released; the energy is cooped up.
Judgment [judgment]: An important spirit in your path wants you to deal with what you have been avoiding, and will interfere with your magic until you face them.
Tumblr media
Spread Ideas
"What's going on with that thing?" | 3 cards
Card 1: The source or cause
Card 2: The current state of affairs
Card 3: Suggested action
Example; the money jar doesn't work: Card 1, King/Swords: The source of failure was the person in the discord server who promised to curse you for not feeling the same way about Destiel as they did. Card 2, Page/Pentacles: The current state of affairs is that as a symptom of the curse, an unaware person or spirit is blocking the prosperity you seek. Card 3, Queen/Cups: Ask a benevolent spirit or helpful practitioner friend to assist you in unblocking the situation.
Determining responsibility | 2 cards
Card 1: Why this thing happened
Card 2: Why it didn't happen; one thing that wasn't the cause at all
Example; the ward fell off the wall: Card 1, 10/Pentacles: This happened because of random happenstance in the home; it was not a magical event. Card 2, Ace/Swords: This action was unrelated to malefica or bad spirits or things like that.
Foresight Before Acting | 4 cards
Card 1: The current state of affairs
Card 2: The outcome of your intended plan of action
Card 3: Recommended plan of action
Card 4: The outcome of the recommended plan
Example; the spirits did not seem to appear during a spirit petition spell: Card 1, 3/Wands: Sufficient energy was raised to attract the attention of spirits, but they may not have been properly called to action. Card 2, 6/Swords: Your plan to call the spirits back and re-cast the spell is a fruitless attempt at a transition into a new plan. Card 3, Empress: Communicate with your primary goddess or powerful spirit of the earth and obtain input and guidance. Card 4, Magician: This plan will result in obtaining important magical information about this type of summoning spell you are trying to achieve.

Hogwarts Legacy Low Fatal Error Fix
Tumblr media
The world of Harry Potter has always been a source of wonder and fascination for fans all over the globe. From the magical spells to the enchanted beasts, the universe created by J.K. Rowling has captivated audiences for decades. It comes as no surprise, then, that the announcement of Hogwarts Legacy, an open-world RPG set in the Wizarding World, was met with excitement and anticipation. Developed by Avalanche Software and published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment under their Portkey Games label, Hogwarts Legacy allows players to attend Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry as a student in the late 1800s. With a vast open world to explore, a variety of spells to cast, and an intriguing storyline to follow, the game promises to be a treat for fans of the Harry Potter franchise.
Tumblr media
However, the game's release has not been without its fair share of issues. Many players have reported experiencing frequent game stutters and crashes, along with the dreaded "LowLevelFatalError." This error occurs when the game tries to launch but crashes as soon as it loads into the open world, resulting in a pop-up appearing on the screen.
Hogwarts Legacy Low Fatal Error Fix
The good news is that there are a few possible solutions to this problem, and today's guide will go over how to deal with the "LowLevelFatalError" in Hogwarts Legacy. Updating Your GPU Drivers One of the most common reasons for the "LowLevelFatalError" in any game is outdated GPU drivers. Both Nvidia and AMD have their own desktop software that will automatically allow you to detect and download the latest updates. Driver issues are some of the biggest culprits behind the "LowLevelFatalError," and Hogwarts Legacy is no exception to this rule. Updating your GPU drivers to the most recent patch should be the first step in troubleshooting the problem. Checking for File Integrity Another possible reason behind the error could be the existence of corrupt files in the installation directory. Corrupted files will frequently cause game crashes and other performance issues. To fix this problem, you will need to verify the integrity of the game files. To do so, follow these steps: - Open the Steam client - Right-click on the game - Select Properties - Click on Local Files - Select Verify Integrity of Game Files - The Steam client will automatically go through all the files in the Hogwarts Legacy installation directory and replace any that may have been damaged. Disabling Game Optimization If you heavily rely on Nvidia's GeForce Experience and use its game optimization feature often, you may need to turn it off for Hogwarts Legacy. To do so, follow these steps: - Click on the Gear icon in the top-right corner of the client - Select the game - Remove the checkmark beside Automatically Optimize - Re-Installing the Game If the above steps fail, re-installing the RPG may be the next best bet. This will likely weed out other performance errors along with the "LowLevelFatalError." Waiting for a Patch Avalanche Software is likely aware of all the performance issues that PC users are facing with Hogwarts Legacy. Hence, the company is likely to fix most of them with a day-one patch along with other updates in the coming weeks. Also read: Find Diricawl In Hogwarts Legacy Conclusion Despite the issues that some players are facing with Hogwarts Legacy, the game remains a charming and captivating experience for most. If you are experiencing the "LowLevelFatalError" or other performance issues, try the above solutions to troubleshoot the problem. With a bit of patience and effort, you should be able to enjoy the magical world of Hogwarts without any hindrances. Read the full article

Spell Troubleshooting
Tumblr media
This is not an exhaustive list so please be encouraged to add onto this post.
So your spell didn’t work?
Did you cast a circle? If not cast one and try the spell again. If you are new to casting circles you may have done it incorrectly. Do more research and try again.
Did you ground yourself? If you did not ground yourself before attempting the spell your magic may not have flowed correctly. Additionally, you may have opened yourself up to negative spirits that may have interfered with your spell.
Did you make substitutions? Maybe you didn’t have the right ingredients so you made a substitution. Try getting your hands on the ingredients the spell calls for and try again.
Was the spell from a reliable source? Maybe the spell was not written for the purpose of witchcraft and is not effective for magic.
Have you been slacking on your offerings? If part of your magical path is working with deities, spirits, or other entities, offerings are an important part of that relationship. If you have not given offerings recently, your magical guides may not be as interested in helping your spells come to fruition.
Is something interfering with your spell? Have you noticed signs of a spirit or possibly the fae around your home? If so, do your research to find out whats interfering and how you can appease them.
Were you at a good energy level when you attempted it? Casting spells takes physical, mental, and spiritual energy. If you are lacking energy, especially spiritual energy, spells will not work. Try again when you’re feeling better. You can also increase your spiritual energy through meditation.

Hello, I’ve recently made a bunch of protection spells for the people I love. And my boyfriends spell jar is crystallized around the rim. And I don’t really understand why that is. Please understand I’m new at witchcraft, but I’m trying my best
I’d say rule out anything mundane first - have you put anything inside the jar that might cause crystallization, or in the sealing materials? Is your boyfriend’s spell jar placed somewhere different than the other jars, which may cause the top to crystallize? Once you’ve eliminated all the possibilities (plugging it all into Google should do the trick), you can likely reliably use divination to figure out whether your spell jar has misfired, somehow. (My gut feeling, though, is that it might be one of the above nonmagical reasons!) Good luck!

trying to follow ur mirror jar moon water post… do i need to set the paint with like a varnish? cause it seems to wash away in water
I think you’re referring to my Mirror Mirror post? I couldn’t find my post about charging moon water in reflection pools and surface so…I’ll assume this is the one you’re talking about lol
There shouldn’t be an issue with it washing away especially since it should be painted on the outside of the jar. If the surface is cleaned from debris with the rubbing alcohol and let to dry before applying any coats of the mirror finish, it should be fine.
Let the mirror coat dry completely (directions on the paint will usually say 10-15 minutees between application, but up to 24 hours for full curing of the paint).
Unless there’s something off going on with the paint that should do the trick, but if you have a varnish, or even a can of black paint to seal it in (optional step 6 in the post) then go for it. That should do the trick if nothing else will.
Also, just food for thought, if the majority of the surface is mirrored but there are gaps, and you’re using it for moon water, that may actually work to your advantage because it allows moonlight to go through the container and bounce off in multiple directions?
It should be water proof as a lot of people use this paint for creating vases for flowers, but maybe take a deeper look into the brand. I know in the mirror mirror post i specify painting the exterior, but usual application for glass projects would be interior so it should work either way.
Hope it works out alright!

Sorry for the odd question but when you divine for results of baneful spell work do you want a negative card or would you want something positive? I can't really decide what would be better because positive could = you get good results or the spell didn't work because the outcome is happy? And negative could be = intended results or everything went to shit? Idk do you get what I mean?
No, this is a great question! And you've given me an excuse to talk about my favorite thing in tarot, which is deriving answers from sources other than card meanings!
In all cases of troubleshooting vagueness, try to discover the stumbling block. You've already done this - it's hard to determine the portent of the card because we don't know who the card is referring to.
The problem here isn't interpreting the card, per se; the problem is the framework within which the card is placed. "Outcome" is a broken bridge of meaning because we don't know if it's leading us to our island, or our target's island. You've recognized that one bridge can't carry you to both places, so you're trying to figure out which island you're walking to.
The solution isn't to interpret the card harder, but rather to design new questions or spreads that have better frameworks to organize the information you seek.
Reading tarot isn't just the interpretation or memorization of a card, but also includes developing meta-structures to help frame and interpret the cards.
Those 'meta-structures' are the skills of learning how to phrase questions, how to build and modify spreads, and how to think about the flow of information itself so that you can build bridges from desired goal ("I want to know the outcome of this hex") to obtainable results ("I will clearly define that the outcome refers to the target and not to myself.")
As with many things in witchcraft, the solution in tarot is often to know exactly where you'd like to go.
So, to answer your question! (Finally, lol)
If I was trying to read on the spell's outcome for the target, I'd probably want to see a negative or dreary card; if I was reading on the spell's outcome for me, I'd like to see a very positive or triumphant card.
Troubleshooting ideas for when the portent of the card is unknown because it's not clear who the subject is:
Create new spreads that differentiates between you and the subject.
Use the question to clarify whom the card is referring to.
Anchor intent by using signifiers to demonstrate whom the subject is.

How to Clear Your Home of Ghosts and Spirits, by Debi Chestnut
Tumblr media
As everyone may or may not remember, I am constantly trying to get a better handle on spirit work, because I do not understand it and it freaks me out. I snagged this one from the library without thinking, and was fully expecting a really weird read. Despite the kitsch title, funky cover, and general vibe, this book actually manages to be a really sensitive portrayal of ghosts and interactions with them. I was surprised.
The first couple sections are dedicated to very practical “check this out before knowing for REAL if it’s a ghost” troubleshooting approach, and then “how do you know if this ghost actually has to be gotten rid of? They’re just hanging out” type of interactions. It’s way more in touch than the other books I’ve tried to read on this topic. (And their flame throwers.)There’s also a lot of great advice on how to handle spirits who are in your house. I myself will always agree with rosemary, seasalt, and olive oil. The advice on the differences between hiring a paranormal team versus hiring a medium is also really helpful as well; having never felt the need to hire a team, I found that highlighting the differences in their approaches would have definitely changed my opinion on hiring either one. Like, I’ve seen ghost movies, but I would not have remembered how deeply personal the questions would be from a paranormal team.
But, you know... demons. I feel like the fearmongering about them is really weird. Demons don’t tend to actually be in many places. I think that she is using “demons” are a shorthand for aggressive non-human spirits, which is common, but not helpful? It’s reductive; instead of identifying individual malicious spirits, the author uses an incorrect blanket label and provides blanket advice. Likewise, I’m more of a “ouija boards are tools” and not “ouija boards are portal” type of witch. There were a few other touches, on the prayers used as examples and mistaking a pentagram for a pentacle... And why would a non-Jewish family need a mezuzah? No book is perfect. This is no exception to the rule.
And, being about ghosts, it’s not quite as at risk of cultural appropriation in the same way as other witchcraft books may be. The author identifies mainly as a medium, not a witch, so the nuances of the author’s spiritual culture is slightly different. Rating on cultural insensitivity: 2/5 for a “Native American burial ground” comment and an insistence on “smudging” with sage and sweetgrass. Both were unnecessary. Either all burial grounds or none. Do you think no one else keeps the place for their dead sacred? Without that, it would have read cleanly.
I definitely recommend this book if you are looking to get new perspectives or looking more into ghosts and other departed spirits. But, like all witchcraft books, I’ll recommend taking the advice with a grain of salt.
Blessings!
Like these book reviews? I take tips! :)

And ugh, thanks for the reminder about why i blocked NH even though my mind has changed on reality shifting. Quit trying to police communities you know fucking nothing about jackass
NH is... They’re good at doing research, yeah. And if a spell goes wrong they’re pretty good at troubleshooting. And they’re good if you’re thieving book recommendations to read later. But every take they’ve ever had towards fiction or any sort of new age spirituality is so utterly shit it’s not even funny.
Like, someone jokingly said they reality-shifted to a universe of NH’s novel (Amber Skies, haven’t read it) and NH took really badly to it. Had someone done that to me, I’d go “good help me and my mate write this thing”. They cannot understand, for whatever reason, that fiction and reality aren’t so cut and dry. Which is frankly ridiculous considering how I’ve always found mortal magic to work.
That and the rampant misogyny they keep spewing out. I doubt they realize it, but when you’re advocating for minorities, you shouldn’t shit on slightly-less-oppressed minorities while you’re at it. They shit on the Snapewives so much just for being weird when it’s really, really obvious that they did what they did because the culture at the time did not allow them to have control over any part of their sex lives. You know, a major reason why fic is so prevalent and why AO3 exists.
But the Snapewives were never doing anything wrong. They were just weird. Which I think makes NH’s balls stronger than fucking steel to be criticizing them the way they do. Like, we get it, you enjoy jacking off to making fun of women being weird while claiming to be an ally.
They also shit on otherkin and fictionkin a lot, not always in words but the implication is obvious. If they really wanted, I could clear that up, but you know, why bother doing research if it isn’t an anon telling you you’re wrong? (They also shit on DID systems until they were screamed at by their followers, because reading anything about it is too hard. They’ll read Agrippa and all sorts of occult books and not bother to read some intro psychiatry articles, I guess?)
Actually, that brings us back to starseeds. Starseeds are ‘clearly’ only existent as a concept because parents couldn’t handle neurodivergent kids, but DID systems are all make-believe? Talk about balls of steel.
Every time someone brings up indigo children and starseeds, I think back to that one poor sap who wasn’t actually the Native American (forgive me I don’t remember which tribe) W-creature-that-I-won’t-name but was actually the bastardized version of it in media and didn’t know what to call it. They weren’t a true W-creature, they were the sensationalized version. Almost every single starseed / indigo child I’ve ever met was basically that. The concept of both were hippie-parents not dealing with their neurodivergent kids (and I don’t want to get into hippies because honestly I only know the negative stereotypes, but the concept seems cool enough?), but that doesn’t mean people can’t honestly identify deeply and inherently with the concepts.
There was also the opinion NH shared about being an empath and they were very bluntly “That’s a trauma response, I won’t spiritualize that” and while that’s cool to have as a personal opinion, it is deeply fucking rude to tell an empath that they can’t spiritualize their own empath capabilities. I mean, it seems to me that if you are an empath doing witchcraft, you should be figuring out what that means for you in your practice specifically because it’s a magnet for energy and you have to know how to account for that. My ADHD-adjacent mess (as I’m still not sure exactly what it is) is probably the only thing that made me capable of understanding the Chaotic hivemind I spent several years in. It may not have stemmed from spirituality, but it’s sure as hell a part of it.
NH is very insistent on things being clear-cut and in boxes, unable to mix. And as someone who sees things in a thousand shades of gray and colours, that is so bullshit it’s not even funny.
I’ll follow them to steal book recommendations, and when they shit on otherkin I’ll correct them in the notes knowing they’ll never see it, but someone browsing the notes might. I don’t expect to change their mind, and I don’t care to. But I will admit, having opinions around that I disagree with so vehemently makes my own opinions stronger and easier to defend, because I understand them that much better.

Millennial host who uses her customer service voice on her Yeerk to trick it into doing what she wants.
Yeerk: This blasted dracon beam isn’t working correctly!
Host: I understand your frustration. Let’s do some troubleshooting and see if we can’t get it working properly again. Have you tried turning it off and on again?
Yeerk: Of course I have! This little light just keeps blinking at me!

A Witch's Guide to Spellcraft
Tumblr media
While there is more to witchcraft than casting spells, it's hard to deny that spellcraft still plays a key part and is often how many of us start out in the magickal arts. Lighting a thousand candles and reciting just as many beautifully rhyming words will not, in themselves, get the job done. It takes concerted and consistent effort to develop, hone, and maintain the skills and abilities that are necessary to make the magick go.
Yet the ability to work effective magick is there for us all, and by making simple changes in your approach, you can create deep and lasting changes within your life.
If you would do the work to be effective...
- explore the mechanics of spellcraft with a focus on results
- learn how to determine the magickal correspondence of any object
- troubleshoot failed spells so you can be more effective with your magick
- become a stronger witch through active spell casting and find direction for your personal practice
- dissolve the separation between magick and the mundane so you can create real and lasting change in your life
Through eight lessons aligned to the lunar cycle, you will develop a deeper understanding of the art of spellcraft so you can devise an effective plan of action for your magickal goals. Each week you will dig into a facet of spellcraft mechanics, and to begin seeing stronger results within your magickal practice.
