anyway jaskier is like. basically the human equivalent of those wild animals someone feeds who've lost all fear of people and now just break into houses to eat out of the trash and chill in the pool

he's been travelling with a witcher since he was 18. he has zero fear of any of them. he associates witchers with Having Things Done For Him and Being Provided For and Give Love. he has no reservations whatsoever about going up to any random witcher he happens to pass when geralt isn't around and asking them to help him with something or do something for him or just. trailing after them for a while because he knows if he whines perfectly on pitch they'll hunt his dinner and store his shit in their horse's saddlebags and keep him safe on the road, even if they're grumpy about it. at kaer morhen he is like the stray cat geralt fed one time and now everyone is just like "well he lives here now i guess". it just Does Not Occur to him that he might ever be in danger with a witcher around. this is a man who finds things lying around in the kaer morhen lab and just fucking. eats them

anyway. those "please do not feed the animals it teaches them to approach people" signs but. for jaskier and the oxenfurt students who start trying to imitate him and adopt a witcher

How was Jaskier supposed to know that the lovely woman he spent the night with had a husband? Let alone a husband in a big scary poacher gang? So Jaskier is hauling ass through the forest, only to get his leg caught in a beartrap. He faceplants (very daintily, prettily, and most certainly not with an embarrassing wail, thank you very much) and begins sobbing with the pain. Not to mention his cheap lute breaking into splinters. Great. Just great. What a LOVELY day he's having! A pure white werewolf with bright golden eyes suddenly prowls out of the bushes, growling at him, and Jaskier decides that today really is his worst day. No matter how majestic the beast is, this is cearly the end of Jaskier the bard. He sobs and begs to live, apologizing profusely, and the last thing he sees is the monstrous snout getting closer. Geralt, the werewolf, is stalking for food for his pack, only to come across one of those humans in their own traps. Except... This human isn't one of them. He's wearing brightly colored delicate clothing, and wasn't familiar with where their traps were. It's an innocent human. One that smells very nice, under all the stench of blood and fear. Wolf!Geralt creeps closer, and pries open the trap, intending on releasing the human back into the wild, but it just kind of stares at him in horror before passing out. Hm. Well, it appears it needs more care than he initially thought. So imagine the other witcher's surprise when he doesn't bring food back to the pack, but instead brings a human to patch up. The moon dips out of the sky, they all turn back into their witcher-human forms, and now they're all SCRAMBLING over what they're meant to do!? HOW DO YOU CARE FOR A HUMAN AGAIN??? FUCK- I DON'T KNOW! Geralt stop petting him, he doesn't like that, he's human, not a wolf! What do you mean he likes it? Oh shit- EVERYONE QUICK PET HIM! No wait- He doesn't like it any more- One at a time pet him! And uh- Fuck- What do normal people eat!?

♡!Optional addons!♡ • (ORIGINALLY A TAG) Is Aiden a werecat or also a werewolf? And if he is a werewolf (and/or a werecat I suppose), perhaps he's from a rival pack (against his will) and needs to be rescued by Lambert as a sideplot • Maybe the poachers find poor trapped Jaskier and Geralt has to fight them off first, or perhaps they come back later, intent on killing the White Wolf • Perhaps Geralt turns Jaskier into a werewolf (Either with his consent or without his consent ONLY if he has to do it to save his life, we don't fuck with forced bonds here, people)

Am I insane or was there something where Witcher Omegas had scents like metal sparks or something, and human omegas generally didn't, but then Jaskier! The only one the Wolves have met with the scent like an omega witcher.

A Soft Kind Of Home Part 1

The first year Jaskier stayed at the keep he learned quite a bit about the Witchers of Kaer Morhen.

He learned that Eskel likes to read out loud but was taught that it’s “childish” so he offers to read books for Jaskier. Eskel likes to read by the fire and he likes to hold Jaskier in his lap. Eskel likes to listen to music and loves Jaskier singing this and that, trying to figure out new songs. Eskel is very smart and can talk and talk for ages about almost everything. He loves talking about embroidery, sewing, spinning yarn, anything that has to do with making pretty things or art. He also loves talking to the viscount about food. He tells the bard about the disgusting things he's choked down on the path and how the food at home is so much better. Jaskier tells him that when he returns next year he'll bring along spices and herbs from Oxenford and recipes from Lettenhove.

Jaskier learned that Lambert is a big softy when he gets used to you. He learned that storms scare Lambert and he had a quite soft side to him. Lambert likes to cuddle and be close to Jaskier or the other witchers when it rains or storms. Lambert loves sitting in laps and loves being held. Lambert really just craves some form of affection and love. Lambert likes chewing on stuff especially his own hands.

He learned Geralt is the... Well there isn’t quite a word he can think of for what Geralt is. Eskel comes to Geralt when he doesn’t feel well or scared. Lambert is almost always hanging on Geralt when it’s stormy outside. And Geralt takes care of them.

Jaskier learned that there’s one room in the keep that all the wolves sleep in when they get lonely and sad. Geralt usually leads the other wolves by their hands to the room when sadness hangs too heavy over them.

Jaskier learned that all the wolves liked to nuzzle and snuggle when they sleep and he always ends up in the middle of a puppy pile. He learned Geralt can talk in such a low and gentle voice that it instantly calms the other two.

Jaskier learned a lot

Summary: He tried to look away but the cracking of bones breaking made it impossible with every passing second and he shivered again before he felt a hand on his shoulder. He spun around to see the little girl holding a skull in her hands. Jaskier took it from her and as he turned it around he let out a scream before dropping it, and watched the spiders crawl out of the eye sockets and scurry away as the skull was absorbed by the earth.

Rec: Now this is what I am talking about when I say HORROR. It is definitely the scariest thing we have on the list this round, but considering the theme it is wonderfully apropos.

The actual monster is not a surprise but written with a detailed and visceral presence on the page that it sets your heart racing. I was especially taken with the fact that we got to see the aftermath of the haunt and--I’m not going to spoil anything--but this fic leaves you with a little bit of something to take away and let your brain pick at long after you close the tab.

Don’t let horror tag scare you away though ( 😉) this fic is more spooky story than slasher film and the atmosphere and creativity worked into it make for a very satisfying read.
