Drink Responsibly: Chapter 2

Platonic!Alfred, Bruce x reader, Possessive! Batboys x reader
Warnings: Bad life choices, possessive behavior, a/b/o, they're vampires, loooong age gaps, no proofreading, we die like men, reverse harem. This is getting sexual. I’m sorry.
Writer's Note: I live, I die, I live again. I’m trying to keep an even pace when publishing, I promise. It’s just that finals week knocked me on my ass. I’ve basically got to prepare week 9 and 10 before it. Graduation is also right around the corner. Besides school and work though, this has also been my only focus. Also, sorry to everyone who reached out. I promise I’m not ignoring the kind messages and everything. I just keep forgetting. I’m so sorry. I’ll try to do better. Also got to write a bio and start publishing the other things I’ve been cooking up. This series is still a top priority though. I’m going to be more consistent from here on out.
When you finally make it back to the manor after a day of detours and horrible karaoke that makes your insides warm and fuzzy, Duke doesn’t let you open your own door. All the being nice was making you itch, and you kind of were missing being a strong independent person. It’s also not that you didn’t give it the good old college try, desperately jiggling the handle to open the door that he child locked as you look out the window in disbelief as he laughed his ass off outside your door.
To get back at him, the both of you ensued the pettiest game of unlocking and locking the doors. You, holding the door closed when he unlocked it and tried to pull it open, and scrambling to the driver’s seat to keep that door closed as well. Would it be bad if you admitted you liked the way his smug pretty face grew determined and slightly irritated? Never mind the dimples, the tick in his sharp jaw had your mind skipping a beat.
It was all fun and games until Alfred, who undoubtedly was watching you from the window, opened the other door just as you held yours shut and taunted Duke. “Can’t even open a wittle omega’s door?”
You’ll never forget the feral boyish smile he gave before sliding over the moving van’s hood and gently pushing Alfred out of the way.
His big frame wedged the door open letting wind into the cabin with enough pheromones to make your eyes water. In a panic you start trying to move away from him as far as possible. Cue, Alfred opening the other door your back was against, and you almost tumbling out.
“(L/N)? Just what on earth are you doing?”, Alfred questioned.
You stare up at the old Beta and your savior. His gloved hand on your back keeping your from tumbling out of the truck cab and busting your head on the gravel. Something all three men on the property were undoubtedly worried about as they watched you dangle too close to the ground. Not that you ever saw the curtain drawing closed from the third story. All you saw was help. Because surely Duke would knock it off with Alfred here.
“I’m poking the bear”, you tell him.
A large mitt, exactly like a bear’s, wraps around your ankle and tugs you out of Alfred’s hands and towards the open car door with a slightly pissed alpha waiting. Oh no. New employment be damned, you are not going out like this.
You scramble for purchase as your dragged across the leather seat. Your fingers digging into the crevice between the driver’s side and middle cushion for dear life. Desperately you try to shake Duke’s fingers off your one good ankle.
“(Y/N), get out of the car. You’re probably hurting yourself right now while doing this”, Duke warns.
There was an unspoken “Are you stupid?” that hung in the air. With Alfred here, the big, dimpled grin has disappeared, giving way to grim determination as Duke looked as though he was five seconds away from peeling the truck’s metal frame apart just to get at you better. You didn’t know what to do, it was better when you two were playing. The air was lighter, and you could breathe and believe he had best intentions at heart. Now you couldn’t keep playing, because he seems to be getting angrier every defiant second you spend clinging to cushions. Which made you want to burrow under the seats even more, away, and safe from the anger.
What you hadn’t noticed was how his anger started the second Alfred intervened. It’s not your fault, a lot has been happening and pissed-off Alphas take priority. The old man did though, and backed the adequate amount of steps away after ensuring you would not tumble out of the cab. If it wasn’t for the promise he made to Bruce to chaperone, and to you when he hired you, Alfred would have taken up the offer the others had given him. A nice vacation, the first he would have taken, just to give you and the rest space to figure each other out. Based on the messages from the family’s missing members, it would have been smart to leave Gotham. Or the continent.
“Don’t tell me what to do” you say.
“Get out of the truck”, Duke replies.
“No. Fuck off. I’m grown up, I can get out if I want.”
“I’m seriously running out of patience (y/n)”
“Good. Leave me alone Duke.”
“Terrible things are about to happen to you.”, Duke warns.
You squint at him and stick your tongue out at him. You know he’s just full of shit and would never do anything to actually hurt you. Nor would he allow you to be in any real danger. He’s got a trick up his sleeve and the muscles in your stretched leg were taut, waiting for release so you can roll and limp away to safety.
There was hardly anytime for you to plan your next step before Duke wrapped his hand around your ankle and starts untying your sneaker.
“Don’t”, you squeal.
He ignores you and gives you another bright smile full of sunshine and mischief. Dear God, he was going to kill you with that look on his face. Totally disarming and distracting as you barely register the shoe and sock getting tugged off.
“I mean it Duke! I give up! Look, see? I’m letting go!”, you beg.
You unclench your fingers and start waving your hands in his face. Trying like hell to sit up and defend yourself. Unfortunately, the hood on your hoodie was caught on the seatbelt latch in the cushion. Preventing you rolling farther away or sitting up and smushing his face away with your freed hands.
“I will never forgive you”, you solemnly vow.
“Yes, you will, look at your face, you’re smiling. You’ve already forgiven me.”
“They stink, I haven’t changed my socks in five days.”
“That’s another lie, I know for a fact that your laundry has been washed.”
“And that’s weird. We’re going to revisit that later though. Let my foot go. I also haven’t taken a shower yet; I ran a five K this morning.”
“In what? Your dreams? You know, I think we should go back to begging.”
You give an enraged shriek that devolves into panicked laugh as he starts torturing every available space on your foot. It was not an enjoyable experience. You were scrambling and flailing to get away but couldn’t since he seemed to have super strength. He also barely swatted your thick cast covered foot you tried to jam in his face. Tears start leaking out the corners of your eyes as you giggle and beg and plead for him to release you. Not that he listened to any of it. He seemed perfectly happy watching you writhe.
The merriment came to about as abrupt and end as it started as a sleek black muscle car growled into the driveway. Duke dropped your ankle and crawled into the truck cab with you. As defective an Omega as you were, you still picked up on the spike of adrenaline and what you thought was panic although it was smothered by anger. You scrunch your nose at the onslaught of pheromones that made you want to bump up and rub against him and soothe in any way you could. Because no. You’re not that kind of Omega.
“Duke?”, you ask.
He must have picked up on the nervous twitching from you. Or the tell-tale patter of your little heart trying to produce enough pheromones to get you out of this situation. Enough to tell the Alpha that’s laying on top of you, tantalizingly close, so close you could hear the clack that the wooden beads in his dreads made as he pressed flush against you. I’m in danger, help me. Is what should have been leaking out of every pore. Yet, you were broken.
“Shh, don’t let him see you.”, Duke says.
That didn’t help the matter. Especially when Duke used his freakishly long limbs to pull both sets of doors closed as quietly as possible. What was happening? Was someone trying to attack Bruce Wayne, billionaire-philanthropist and notorious Alpha who also seems to be in close contact with the most frightening infected Alpha in the country. Merely the thought of the shadow you often saw cast on buildings as dominance battles were fought all over in the different Gotham territories was enough to make you shake. You never saw Batman. No one whoever truly interacts with him lives to tell the tales. So just what is Bruce Wayne that he seems to be in an alliance with such a monster?
“Bruce! Get out here you chicken-shit piss-poor excuse of a sire”, a booming voice shout outside.
A seismic level shockwave rocked through you, and you couldn’t suppress the litany of whines that escaped as you dug your claws into duke’s yellow and black muscle shirt. It was embarrassing, you felt like a pup again.
In all your years you had never come anywhere close to that amount of dominance that was coming out in waves that even rattled the windows. Whoever this was, he was bad news. Even Duke knew it.
Duke’s eyes were flashing gold in the sudden darkness of the cab. You were once again struck by the oddity, but this world is full of strange things. To be fair, you were mostly preoccupied with other things, and you had a feeling that if you started digging into what was going on at the place you were hired then you would truly fall down the rabbit hole.
“Stop moving”, Duke whispers.
His hand wraps around one of your wrists that you had thrown up against his chest. Just for a little breathing room, rather than being pressed face first in a scent gland that would have you dry humping everything in sight. Despite the abject terror at the situation unfolding outside.
“Where do you get off siccing Dick on me in the middle of a meeting?”, the man demands.
You didn’t hear the heavy manor door creaking open. So you had no idea just who this man was talking to. During the struggle with Duke earlier and the tickle fight, you didn’t see Alfred. You doubt the man stuck around during the shenanigans. Which begs the question. Just who was he talking to?
“Really? The silent treatment. You really are too scared to face me huh?”, the unknown man says.
Oh no. That sounded right outside your moving truck. No, nonononononono. You could feel the anger coming off him as it made your teeth chatter.
Your worst fear came true as the driver’s side door, above your head, was ripped open. No. It was ripped off the truck cab in a screech of metal that had you cringing and trying to burrow farther into Duke away from it. You were still stuck on the damn seatbelt thing that was jammed into the back of your neck. All you could do was look up and try not to burst into tears.
Because the man who just opened your door was death. You were teetering between pissing yourself from fear, and trying to control the inappropriate lust that was starting to ride you hard. Because damn. That voice, that dominance, paired with that attitude and face. My God, it’s like he was made perfectly for you. Or any Omega really. A fact that was cemented when the stern bluish-grey eyes that stare down at you flash a crimson red. Sploosh. You seriously needed to get your head checked.
“(Y/N)?”, mystery man says.
“How do you know my name?”
“Bruce told us he got you. Shit. I thought he was just pulling his usual shit”, he swears.
You were about to question who he was and what all was going on, but Duke beat you to it.
“(Y/N) this is Jason. I’m sorry, I didn’t think he would ever come back home. Speaking of what are you doing here Jason?”, Duke says.
Jason straightens, his eyes flashing another dangerous candy apple red color that brought another bout of hot oozing warmth where it definitely didn’t need to be. Not that you needed to worry about it. Like you said, you were broken. Although you couldn’t help but wonder if being by lethal amounts of Alpha fueled testosterone would kick your damaged hardware into gear. Food for thought at a later time.
“I have just as much of a right to be here, if you checked your phone you would know what was going on. Bruce… interfered with a business interaction of mine when I refused to come back to the Manor.”
“So you decided to just go ahead and give him what he wants, really Jay?”
“No. I’m going to kill him. First though, get off of her.”
The callous way he mentioned killing your employer was chilling you to the bone. You bet he could do it to. From the heavily muscled frame that was subtly flexing, his old brown leather jacket creaking as it strained. He took to cracking his knuckles as he stared down at you both. Too make matters worse, there was a small scar that twisted the left side of his face in a permanent smirk as it ran up from the corner of his slips, across his high cheekbones, and disappeared above his ear and into that thick black hair. Hair that contained a curious white streak that made you want to take a closer look. Not that you would. You were smart. Everything about this man shouted danger.
While Duke was massive in his own right, Jason looked as though he could rip linebackers in half for funsies. You believe that those thick corded thighs that your eyes had zeroed in on, the ones that his frayed jeans were struggling to contain, those are rugby thighs. Once again, it’s not your fault, you were born to be this pervy to those of the Alpha secondary gender category. Just like Deltas were made for Betas. This is all evolution's fault that you wanted to climb a psycho killer like a tree and purr. Ooooh, maybe you could get Duke to wear a firema- nope. Annnnnd you’re done. You seriously need to focus if you’re going to somehow finesse your way out of this situation.
“What are you going to do? Make me?” Duke says.
You almost think he’s teasing Jason, then you hear the bite of a challenge to an invading Alpha. Dear God, it’s almost like you’re a kid on the playground again. This was so not fun nor was it sexy. Especially with you sitting so close to the crossfire.
“I said, get off.”, Jason start growling.
Oh good, now we’re slowly becoming dogs. This is great. Totally not borderline psychotic in any way.
“You didn’t want to come back, so you don’t get to have her. Back off Jay.”, Duke warns.
“No one here gets to judge me; you know the reason why the family is so broken is sitting up there. Plotting. If I had known- well- doesn’t matter. Get off before I rip you to pieces. I might till do it, send a fun little message to our psycho father by spreading his precious new pet’s blood all over the front steps.”
“Isn’t that what Dick said to you when you met?”
“Say his name again and I will make good on my promise.”
“Can I just say one thing?”, you ask.
The tension was getting so thick you could cut it with a cheap plastic spork. Honestly, you suspect they could’ve just kept going all night if they had to with the witty one-liners. You were getting tired though, and all this negativity was not good for your heart.
“Hon, not right now, I’m winning.”, Duke tries to shush you.
First of all, how dare he shush you. You had just as much of a right to talk as they did. Duke is different from most Alpha’s you’ve met. The silent prejudice was still hanging in that back of your mind though. Omegas are useless without Alphas. So be a good little one and sit there and be pretty. Don’t ever think of talking. You know he’s not like all the other assholes you’ve encountered. What he just said though started ringing those little alarms that told you he might be though.
“No, you’re not.”, you pause and notice the slight smirk across Jason’s scarred face, “Neither of you are. Can I please get up and get my boxes in while you two have your pissing match?”
Jason lets out a surprised bark, and you give him brownie points for keeping his mouth shut besides that.
“I’ll let you up, once he goes inside.”, Duke tells you.
“No. I want to get up now.”, you say.
Duke’s next response gets cut off as you watch Jason reach over you and grab Duke’s dreads. There was a slight struggle, but the comforting weight of Duke’s body between your thighs is gone within seconds. You almost miss it. You almost feel bad when you finally wrench your hoodie free and look out the truck door and see Duke on the ground with Jason’s hand around his throat. It was ok. You can tell no real weight was being put behind it. It was just one Alpha gently reminding a younger one to submit. You’ve seen this shit all the time.
You also weren’t going to lie; the dominance was definitely starting to rev your engines.
“Please don’t kill him, I need his help with the boxes and my wheelchair”, you call out.
Jason turns to look at you, the red in his eyes damning as he stares into you. Oooh. You can have a lot of fun with that. Maybe you can ask him to pretend to be your sleep paralysis demon that has his wicked way with yo- nope. No roleplaying. No playing with these Alphas in any sexual manner. You need money and a place to stay, and while sex is nice, everyone always moves on to more compelling Omegas that aren’t broken. Besides, you’re pretty sure these Alphas don’t know their strength. Nope, you’re good without all the heartbreak and hospital visits if you go down that route.
“Boxes?”, Jay asks.
“Yeah, I’m moving in, didn’t anyone tell you?”, you ask him.
“No. They just told me- nothing. I’ll help, you don’t need shit-for-brains”, Jay says.
He gets up, slightly pushing Duke’s face to the side and into the muddy wet gravel. You can’t help but wince and give Duke a sympathetic look. Not that he was paying you any mind. His lovely brown eyes were now a liquid gold that screamed revenge. You just pray that he can hold off long enough to get your wheelchair from the back.
“What- what happened to her?”, Jay asks.
“Motherfu- get my chair”, you boss.
“She got chewed on at one of Cobblepot’s clubs”, Duke tells him.
“Shit, none of the others know huh.”, Jason sighs.
He runs his hands through his hair, and you’re stuck looking at it again. It looked fluffy and silky. Of course, it would put you in a trance, the same as the wood beads in Duke’s dreads. You might actually have a thing for hair now that you thought about it.
“No, we’ll have a war when they do.”, Duke replies cheerfully.
“Why?”, you ask. You were genuinely confused as they kept talking circles around you.
“Don’t worry about it Hon. Let’s get you inside”, Duke groans as he gets up from the dirt.
Jason reaches in and lightly grabs your good wrist as he pulls you out. You willingly let him, marveling at that the body made from the gods. Would it be bad if you reached around and gently pinched his ass? It’s just curiosity. So much muscle, how much fat?
Duke looks slightly peeved when he grabs the chair from the back and notices you in Jason’s arms. You couldn’t help but give him a slight smug wave from the safety of King Kong’s arms.
“I like the bell, maybe we should find some streamers for the back too. There’s no way she’ll get lost.”
And just like that, you lost it as Giant 1 and 2 dissolved in a fit of giggles. I’m going to kill them. Hopefully before your hormones and pheromones killed you first. Because damn it, you did seize the opportunity to smack the ass of the jack ass.
That ass is not only iconic and slightly hard, but it jiggled a little too. This is going to be so much fun living here.

Datura Pt 4
Tumblr media
Summary: A little (ok it's not very little this is 4k words) Rhysand x Reader training under the mountain
Content Warnings: Some suggestive content, nothing explicit, Rhysand is a tease and so am I, will get to the actual smut eventually ;)
Pt 1, 2, 3
--------------------------------------------------------
There’s water dripping somewhere, the splash against the copper tub echoing across the room in a steady enough rhythm it drags you from sleep. You’ve never been a morning person, especially after the last couple days, it takes everything in you to prop your head up on your hand, open an eye and try to figure out where the noise is coming from. With your luck there’s a leak, even enough to flood. You fully expect to find your slightly furnished prison to be underwater, your bed floating up towards the ceiling. It’s definitely a more reasonable answer than the truth. A flood in this ancient tomb makes sense, who knows how long these pipes had been here? But the violet eyed male sitting on the edge of the tub when you’d never heard the door open? You have no explanation for that.
“The dead sleep lighter than you,” Rhys says by way of greeting.
You drag your gaze to the door. It’s still shut, as if he’d walked right through it.
You pull the pillow over your head, it’s too early for all this nonsense. “Go away, Rhysand.” Maybe you shouldn’t be so flippant with him after the power he’d displayed last night, but you’re too exhausted to care.
“Rhysand?” He says like you’d cursed at him. “I thought we were friends?”
Friends? He doesn’t give you away to his evil Mistress one time and suddenly you’re friends? He’s as delusional as he is powerful and you can’t stop yourself from sliding an arm out from under the sheets to give him the finger.
“You wound me.”
You close your eyes and let sleep try and claim you again, the blissful darkness quiet for the first time in days, no Calanmai visions to haunt you. For a few hours you’d been able to forget where you were, why you were here, why the male hovering at the edge of your bed is here. Perhaps if you go back to sleep it’ll all be a terrible dream.
“You stink,” he says as he yanks the sheets off you and tosses them across the room.
You’re more bare than you’d like to be, still wearing that mud stained shift, too tired the night before to even attempt to get clean, you’d just crawled into bed and cried yourself to sleep. Conscious of your lack of dress, and suddenly very aware of the male’s gaze on your nearly exposed ass, you grab the edge of the pillow and swing at him with all the strength you can muster.
It’s apparently not a lot because Rhys catches it before the blow can lend and wrenches it from your grip. “We have a lot of work to do.”
“Eat shit,” you snarl.
“Not a morning person I take it?”
“You’re the most infuriating male I’ve ever met in my life,” you hiss as you crawl off the mattress.
Rhys grins, eyes glinting playfully. He likes this, you realize.
“I promise you’ll never find another male quite like me, Darling,” he retorts.
You look away from him, at the steam curling off the water in the tub, filled almost to the brim. A bath would be nice… but there’s no door, and Rhys is hovering like a puppy just given a new owner. There is no trace of the male you saw last night, the monster that laid beneath his skin.
“I don’t… have any other clothes,” you mumble, forgetting what you were talking about before.
He holds out a hand and a set of perfectly folded clothes appears in his outstretched palm. “I’m not a monster, I wouldn’t have you walk around naked. At least not out there,” he says with a wink.
“It’s too early for this,” you grumble as you take the clothes from his hand. There’s a pair of pants, socks and a sweater, both black, and surprisingly soft. You carry them into the bathroom on instinct, only remembering at the last moment that there is no door to give your privacy and he’s now sitting on the edge of the bed.
“Will you leave now?”
“I’m in charge of training, remember? There’s no escaping me.”
“Is this training happening in the tub?”
His eyes gleam, “I can think of a few exercises.”
You pinch the bridge of your nose. This version of him is better, better than watching him rip people apart with nothing but his mind, but he’s getting on your last nerve. You can’t remember the last time you’d eaten. He’s going to push you too far and the morning is only just getting started.
“Rhysand-”
“Fine, I’ll turn around,” he does so as dramatically as possible, but his back is finally to you.
There’s little else to do but strip and climb in. The water is blissfully warm, easing your stiff muscles, swallowing the chill that feels like it’s carved it’s way into your bones. You groan as you settle against the side, eyes drifting shut for a few moments so you can savor it for as long as possible.
 You’re not sure how long Rhysand’s civility will hold out, so you don’t wait too long before you grab the cheap soap and start scrubbing the grime from your skin. Truth be told, you’d need a good couple of baths to be completely clean, but you make the most with what you have before scrambling out and into your new clothes. They fit like they were made for you, everything the perfect length and size, and they’re warm. After spending so long in your shift, the chill of the mountain is beginning to feel permanent. This takes the edge off, just a little.
Rhys’s turns as you leave the bathroom like he’s been listening to your footsteps, two pastries in hand this time, one half eaten. “Hungry?”
“Where do you keep pulling this stuff out of?” You ask.
He eats the other half in one bite as he holds the other one out. “I’ve got deep pockets.”
You’re too hungry to care.
“Or pocket realms, I should say,” he amends as you take a bite. It’s not warm, if anything it’s a little stale, but there’s something sweet, maybe honey in the center, and it’s filling, easing the ache that’s been steadily growing in your stomach for awhile now.
“Thanks,” you say around a mouthful of the pastry.
He stands and brushes a piece of it off the corner of your mouth with his thumb, like he just can’t help himself. He’s always finding an excuse to touch you. “Can’t have you starving to death before we’re done with you, now can we?”
You frown at that. “Right, that. And here I was thinking you cared about my well being.”
“I can multitask,” he says.
You scarf down the rest of the pastry, manners be damned, “Let’s get this over with then.”
With a wave of the hand, the door opens to him. “Right this way, M’lady.”
“Nope, you’re definitely not calling me that,” you counter, biting down the obvious surprise that he’s letting you out of the room. After last night, you’d expected to be locked in your room until Amarantha deemed you ready--whatever that was supposed to mean--the chance to get out and explore with fresh eyes is a promising start to the day, Rhys’s company be damned. He’s been pleasant thus far, but you’re wary of how long it’ll hold out, you can’t waste any opportunity to explore by worrying about what he’ll do on his next whim.
The halls are scarred from your claws on them last night. You trace their path forward, before they veer left, opposite the way Rhys is leading. You make a mental note of the paths: Left will eventually lead to the throne room, right will be something for training?
Rhys is less chatty in the halls, hands deep in his pocket as he strolls ahead. It looks like he’s trying to be leisurely, but his shoulders are stiff, muscles tight, even if his pace is slow.
The path goes right for a long while, then rounds into a downward spiral. The torches are few and far between here and there’s something beneath the rock scratching and hissing. At one point you’re sure you hear screaming.
“Where are we going?” You ask as you wrap your arms around yourself. This place is creepy, a giant dungeon filled with monsters.
“Some place where you can’t accidentally bring the mountain down on our heads,” Rhys says.
“You’re very confident I have powers you can use,” you reply.
Rhys continues on, but says over his shoulder, “Why are you so sure you don’t?”
“Because…” Because what little has manifested has always been an uncontrolled mess that had a tendency to disappear just as quickly as it would come. Because your uncle had always made it sound like these things weren’t a big deal, they were something everybody had and grew into overtime. Because two days ago you were a simple girl with a simple life and you had liked that, and now suddenly that wasn’t true, you weren’t simple at all and never would be again.
Rhys slows until you’re walking side by side with him. “You shouldn’t have to be scared of what you are,” he says softly, like he thinks the walls might hear him.
Maybe that was part of the problem: What even are you?
The path levels out and straightens back into another hall, the ground more rocky here. A soft breeze whistles through a crack in the wall, but there is still no light to be seen.
Rhys stops at a door covered in ancient markings and pushes it open. The old stone creeks like it hasn’t been opened in centuries, a bit of dirt from the ceiling falling on your heads as you enter. The space is pitch black, the air stale.
“Is this the part where you turn into some giant monster and swallow me whole?” You ask in the darkness. It’s so dark you can’t see your hand in front of your face, let alone him.
He chuckles from somewhere ahead of you as he lights one torch, then another. “If you’re a slow learner maybe.”
He uses the first torch to light two others, anchoring one in each corner of the large room. Like the throne room, the roof is held up by carved pillars, each one shaped like a warrior in battle. There’s a rack of old weapons against one wall, the wooden shelf holding it full of holes and sagging dangerously. A stack of training cushions has been stacked in the other, all coated heavily with dust. Some sort of old training room.
“I take it Amarantha doesn’t do much training,” you say as you step up to one of the carvings. Time and dust have worn down the face’s features, leaving one visible eye beneath what might have once been a helmet. The fae male had once been depicted with wings, but only one remains in tact, the other a pile of rubble collecting at it’s base.
“She doesn’t get many challengers,” Rhys says so low it’s almost a growl.
You turn to face him just in time to see the shadow that flashes across his face. He’s pretty good at hiding his emotions, but every once in awhile the mask slips enough for you to see something beneath. It’s anyone’s guess if it’s real or another one of his tricks to get you to let your guard down, but still, you find yourself asking, “Why not?”
“They’ll loose.”
“Why?” You shouldn’t be so open about your disdain in front of one of her subjects, but even after the little display last night, you’re not so totally afraid of her that you won’t ask questions.
He cocks his head like he’s thinking. “You don’t know do you?”
You walk to another pillar, a woman this time, half her body shaped like a giant snake. “That seems to be everybody’s favorite question to ask me.”
Rhys scratches at his chest, “She has the power of all Seven High Lords.”
Shit.
No one had ever given her a name, they’d always said she was a Blight on the Land and left it at that, as if they feared saying her name would summon her. There had been rumors about her, of course, whispered in taverns in the middle of the night, about a female who had ensnared the High Lords, a female who had snatched them all off their thrones. You hadn’t thought it was true. Tamlin was still in Spring.
“How?” It’s a nice story, but who could manage a feat like that? She was an intimidating force of course, but she hadn’t personally done that much. Everything had been done for her, she’d just been there overseeing.
“As I said,” he sits down in the middle of the floor and motions you to do the same. “She is what your father made her.”
You shiver and desperately need to steer the subject away from all things Hybern. You’ll cross that bridge in three months when he arrives. For now, getting out is the objective-- even if that means partnering with a monster to do it. “So why are you here?”
“Siphoning away our power isn’t a one time thing, since they’re regenerative, so she bound us to her so that she could tap into it continually.”
The information takes a moment to process.
“You’re a High Lord?”
He holds out a hand and lets a few tiny stars glitter from his palm, the glittering balls of light forming constellations and shapes before flying away. “Was,” he says sadly.
Not just any High Lord, there’s only one that can summon stars--something you realize now should have made it obvious from the get-go--Rhys was High Lord of the Night Court. And if memory served, the most powerful High Lord in Prythian’s history. Everybody feared him. And he was here, sitting in the dirt with you far beneath a bunch of rock.
Cauldron boil you, you’d told the High Lord of the Freaking Night Court you were going to rip out his throat!
You can’t look at him. What are you supposed to do with the knowledge that you’d kissed the High Lord of the Night Court? You wish the ground would open and swallow you, but Rhys just stares at his hands, like he’s thinking about all that he has lost.
“How long have you been here?” If this was true, if Amarantha had really managed to steal from and ensnare all the High Lords than Rhys was just as trapped here as you.
“Going on fifty years,” he says.
The room spins. “You’ve been trapped here for fifty years?”
“But who’s counting?” The grin he offers doesn’t reach his eyes.
Before you can ask more question, he rubs his hands together and says, “Now let’s work on those shields.”
Your mouth opens to get back to the previous topic, the next question on your lips, but he misreads it and says, “Yours are nonexistent, any half trained daemati could walk right in and turn your mind into mush.”
The image of that male last night, blood trickling from his eyes makes all questions die in your throat. You can’t suppress the shiver. Is that what he’d done? Gone in and turned his mind into soup?
“You have to picture your mind like a hallway,” he explains, “each thought is a doorway into your memories, and each door needs to be locked and guarded.”
You scratch absently at your head.
“Close your eyes,” he instructs. “Now picture a hallway.”
The first hallway your mind can conjure is the winding path you’d taken to get here, the dark, ancient stone cold and unyielding.
“Try again,” he says like he sees it. Maybe he can.
You give yourself a little shake and try again.
“Relax, you’re too stiff.”
“You’re too stiff,” you retort.
Rhys snorts, “You have to let go of the tension in your shoulders. Take a deep breath. You need to let go of the focus you have on the room and look inside yourself.”
How philosophical; you’d roll your eyes if you weren’t squeezing them shut.
“Right now, you don’t exist here in this room, you’re body is the only tether you have. Let your thoughts drift and form the hallway.”
This is probably a skill you need--maybe a skill you should have possessed a long time ago, as unsure of all of this as you are, you owe it to yourself to at try and master your powers. You know if you don’t that he is perfectly capable of reaching into your mind and taking over them for you. If Amarantha would kill a male just to scare you, it’s not beneath her to use her puppet lordling to reach right into your skull and wield your powers anyway she sees fit. You have to try to master them. This might be your only chance.
You let yourself drift, letting go of all the questions and concerns that tug at you, letting your mind relax. With a few calming breaths you start to think about the farmhouse and the little hallway that leads from the stairs to your bedroom, the walls lined with your bookshelves and the collections of things your uncle had found in his travels.
“Good,” as he speaks he slowly begins to appear in your mind’s eye. This mental version of him reaches out a hand and picks a book up off the bookshelf: Enemy Kiss. Of course the first book he’d pluck out of your memories was one of your smutty romance novels.
With a squeak, you reach out and snatch it out of his hand. “Ok no touching the books.”
His grin is wicked as he turns into nothing but shadow and drifts right past you to another shelf. “Seduced by the High Lord,” he reads, fingers grazing the collections. “My Werewolf Harem.”
Your embarrassment makes the walls rattle, when you toss out a hand to grab the book from him the shelves go flying, sending books in all directions.
“Quite the collection you’ve got here,” he teases. “What’s in here, I wonder?” The shelves had been separated by doors, more doors than had been in your actual house, and when he opens it, it’s not a room at all, but a memory, playing out before you like it’s somehow detached from the body you use to move through the hallway. It’s a strange feeling, knowing that physically your body is sitting on the floor, but mentally, you have a body that moves and walks and touches, while your own memory plays out like it’s attached to a third body. When Rhys steps through the door, he steps right into a memory from last year’s Calanmai.
It might have been any other night, were it not for the drums pounding outside the windows, his own voice an echo on a phantom wind. You watch, somehow separate, yet connected to the body laying on the bed in front of you. Moonlight streams down on you as you lay in bed, sweat clinging to your skin, the sheets kicked off. The drums rattle the windows, begging, pleading you to come out and play. Memory you gives a frustrated growl as you roll onto your stomach, pulling a pillow over your head.
A normal memory, much to your relief. You know there are other ones in here that are…
The room spins, a blur of colors and sounds.
“What’s happening?”
Rhys is in shadow form again, a blur of darkness among the flash of color as the memory morphs and settles. Again in your bedroom. Again with the drums and Rhys’s call inside your head. But this time… this time you’ve got your shift bunched up around your hips, legs spread, your hand between your legs.
With a shriek, you spin towards the door and slam it shut.
Rhys finally takes a corporeal form again, now leaning against the door frame, a wicked gleam in his eyes. “I’d praise your quick learning abilities, but I think we could have had more fun if you hadn’t slammed the door so quickly.”
Your cheeks heat, “No more touching the doors, Rhysand.”
Despite the fact that his physical body is across the room from yours, when he moves so that he’s standing ahead of you, your back now flush against the door to keep him out, you can still feel the heat of him. He braces one hand above your head, the other coming down to stroke across your cheek. “See, but you brought that memory up, not me, Darling. I walked into last year out of sheer curiosity, but you started thinking about another night, and brought it right to me.”
“I didn’t mean to,” you grumble. “It just happened.”
“It’s cute that you’re so scandalized by it,” he says as he leans in, lips brushing against your ear.
When you shiver, a door across from you flies open.
“I’ve seen a lot worse in people’s minds,” he continues. “You’d be surprised how often people are thinking about sex.”
He’s the last person you want to be talking about sex with, or at least, you’d like to tell yourself that, but over his shoulder you can see into the room you’d opened, and it’s very clear that memory is of how his hands had felt on you that night. How close you’d been to begging for him to touch you.
You concentrate your energy into slamming that door shut before he can turn and see it--if he hasn’t already-- imagining a lock on it, sliding it into place, no matter how bad it makes your brain pound in your skull.
He glances over his shoulder than, grinning. “Good girl.”
You’re not sure if he can feel the confusion while he’s in your head like this--and you pray to every god you can name that he can’t because than he’d also know that, despite all your attempts to deny it, being called a good girl makes your stomach do flips--or if it shows on this version of you’s face because he adds, “It takes some people years to be able to shut their memories out, let alone lock them away.”
He knocks a knuckle against the wood of the door you’re still barring him from. “It’ll need reinforcing, but you’re making good progress.”
Maybe it’s him, maybe it’s you, but the hallway fades away and you open your eyes, blinking as the lights suddenly feel too bright, dim as they are. There’s a dull throbbing in your head that has you reaching out to rub your temples.
“Is it always going to hurt?” You grumble.
“No, with enough practice you should be able to check and lock your shields without having to be in a meditative state to do it. Which is something you’ll need to master within a couple weeks.”
Hadn’t he just said it took people years? “Why?”
His eyes are dark again, dangerous. “Hybern is sending your cousins to evaluate you and Amarantha’s hold on the Courts.”
You’re sure that’s supposed to mean something to you, but it doesn’t.
“The twins are daemati, like me, but…” he flicks some dirt off his knee, the cobalt and ruby gems on his rings gleaming in the firelight. “I don’t enjoy going into people’s minds like this. It’s an intrusion, not just of your privacy, but of your consciousness. It… it makes me feel like I’m violating people.”
There’s something in his voice that makes you think he might be showing you what kind of male he is underneath all the layers of flirting and show boating, like there’s something haunted and damaged beneath.
“I do it because I have to,” he holds your gaze like he needs a lifeline, like he might beg you to understand why he’d done what he had yesterday. “But the twins aren’t like me and if you give them an inch, you will find yourself a slave to their every whim.”
You shiver.
“You’re shields have to be up at all times, Y/N, your survival depends on it.”
You find yourself nodding. This is a dangerous game you’re now involved in, monsters lurking on every side. As much as you want to pretend that you can go back to a simple life when you finally get out of here, you know, deep down that to get out, life may never be as simple as it had been again. To be free, you’re going to have to dig deep and figure out exactly what you are.
“Show me more,” you say, meeting his gaze. You’re not sure what lies beneath your skin, if Hybern wants it, it very well be a monster as bad as any of the ones that lurk beneath this mountain. But if it means getting out of here, if it is the key to your freedom, you’ll do it. And in the end, you’d rather be the one to awaken it, before anyone else dared try.

౨ৎ ⋆。˚ bonten!mikey x male!rockstar!reader , reader plays guitar in a band , reader dresses more grunge as that’s the bands theme , think nana osaki from nana bc she’s the inspo for the fic , very lighthearted, tryna let poor bonten!mikey catch a break , slight sexual references but nothing actually happens , bonten is a lil ooc bc they all act like family but it’s okay bc it’s bonten.
౨ৎ ⋆。˚ SLIGHT SPOILERS FOR BONTEN ARC, NOT REALLY BUT WARNING JUST IN CASE. (honestly it’s not spoilers at all bc it’s pretty fanon in comparison to the canon bonten timeline.)
Tumblr media
“cmon mikey, get outta the apartment for once in your life that isn’t to go to headquarters!” rindou pouts at his boss.
manjiro really didn’t know what he expected when he decided all the executives should move into a massive penthouse together. sure it was good for his health to be around others and not coop himself up in agony, but he didn’t exactly like the idea of being dragged out whenever his lackeys felt like it.
“not intrested, leave me alone.” manjiro says, attempting to make his way to his bedroom. to go see a band he rarely listened to? who goes to a concert when you don’t give a shit about them to begin with?
sure he’s heard all about the gorgous female lead singer and the hot as fuck guitarist. (Y/N), right? manjiro couldn’t remember nor did he really care to.
“but i bought us all front row tickets to see Black Rose so we could witness how hot Hiroko Asato issss” ran attempted to persuade the stubborn bonten leader.
it wasn’t working.
“i’m looking forward to seeing her outfits up close. from what i’ve heard, she wears pure designer.” kokonoi adds onto the conversation.
“cmon mikey, it’s only one night. if you hate it that much i can drive you back to the penthouse.” kakucho, ever the resolver, bargains with the pouting leader.
“…” manjiro stays silent. ‘it’s just one night i guess, plus it means that i’d have them off my ass for at least a month’ he reasons with himself.
“alright, let’s get going then.” he says, the rest of the executives silently fist bumping the air rn.
the wait to get into the stadium was a bitch, however with a little bit of force, the bonten executives managed to get inside ahead of time.
koko ordered the drinks, kakucho and mochi reserved the spots and the haitani brothers were chatting up some vip ladies in scandalous dresses. meanwhile mikey is . . .
umm . . .
wait.
“oh, hey! are you lost..?”
you do your best to keep cool with the fact that the leader of the biggest mafia syndicate in japan was in your personal changing room.
“the show doesn’t start for another 2 hours, can i help you to your seat? i wouldn’t mind.” you offer, keeping careful of how you talk.
the hotshots of bonten’s identities had been long revealed to the public, however people were too afraid to really report their whereabouts to authorities. many stories of people who had revealed their location that day were swiftly eliminated, even before the news of their position were made public.
and so, knowing that the tatoo on this rather depressed looking man’s neck was a bad sign, you decided to just adhere to whatever he might need.
you were already dressed, the iconic vivienne westwood jewellery hanging from every inch of your body. each member of your band had a significant brand to them, so it wasn’t uncommon for you to be seen decked out in the iconic space themed jewellery. you had always loved the style, and it seemed the mafia boss was equally as intrigued in your designer pieces. you even had their logo imprinted onto your guitar.
“no, i’m okay.” manjiro only replied, his eyes not leaving the necklace that rested gently on your chest.
he didn’t really know why he snuck into the private quarters of the band. perhaps it was to escape his ever-so-annoying underlings?
or perhaps, a little part of him wanted to catch a glimpse of you.
apart from the obvious favourite of the band, the lead singer AS well as the only girl in the band, you were a favourite among listeners.
you had women and men alike screaming your name and begging for skin-on autographs. despite being a dude yourself, you had other guys begging you to sign their tailbone (which you had to politely decline).
manjiro understood why, as you were definitely easy on the eyes. your amazing sense of fashion and your toned body didn’t help.
“uhm.. are you feeling okay? you seem a bit dazed.” you question. in reality, the man was just dead on staring into your soul, scaring the living shit outta you.
“yes, i’m alright.” he finally responds.
.
. .
. . .
“here, take a seat.” you finally break the silence. why was he here? you didn’t think that a guy like him would have time to sit around some flashy concert. sure, you were a big band but let’s be real, shouldn’t he be at his headquarters shooting peoples heads in?
alas, you knew better then to question it.
and so, you order in some glasses of alcohol and begin chatting. you spoke about your career, how your band came to be and about dreams.
you aren’t entirely sure why you were discussing this sort of shit with a random mafia leader who could probably give less then a shit about you, however he seemed almost enamoured with your conversation.
you felt bad for talking his ear off, especially since you now only had about 45 minutes till showtime and you STILL hadn’t tuned your guitar, however he didn’t seem to care.
everytime you stopped talking, manjiro almost.. glared? at you? as if he was offended that you stopped talking.
unbeknownst to you, manjiro loved listening to you talk. the way you worded things and your voice overall was heavenly to his ears.
the piercings that decorated your skin were appealing to the man. the chain from your ear to you lips especially looked so… attractive to him.
“(Y/N) C’MON, WE’RE ON IN 10” you could hear toru, your drummer, scream out to you.
“SHIT! MY GUITAR” you freaked. HOW did you forget your guitar??
“i’ll come visit after the show.” manjiro says, exiting the room.
“oh, oka-“ before you had the chance to finish your sentence, he vanished.
well, now you couldn’t WAIT for the show to finish!
after the show had ended, you packed up the rest of your gear. your manager had popped in and taken your stage clothes back to the studio before bidding farewell.
as you sat around in a pair of baggy jeans and a t-shirt (inspo - don’t feel like you have to imagine this.) , you paitently waited for the white haired mafia boss to sneak back into your private room.
why were you even waiting? he was probably bullshitting you anyways. why would someone as busy as manjiro sano give a fuck about what you were doi-
“yo.” a cheeky grin graces his face, looking back at you.
note to self : doubt gets you nowhere!
“hey manjiro, enjoy the show?” you ask the man, automatically getting comfortable in his presence. you didn’t exactly know why you felt so relaxed around him, considering his rather infamous reputation, but you just did.
“yeah, you’re certainly the best in your band though. could go solo and still be famous if you wanted.” he replies, automatically heating your face up.
“cmon (Y/N), let’s get going already. i’m tired.” he winged to you in a childlike manner.
“okay.. WAIT—HUH?? where am i going?” you shriek, having no idea that he actually PLANNED to leave this place with you in tow.
“back to my place. duh. i don’t just talk to anybody for fun unless i plan to shoot them in the head an hour later.” he responds in a nonchalant voice.
this boy is gonna be the death of you, literally or figuratively? only time will tell.
regardless of how much you declined the offer, the man ends up dragging you out to the expensive limo that was owned by bonten. not only were you dragged into the car, you were squished in between the boss and 2nd in command of the syndicate, haruchiyo sanzu.
not that you were complaining, the pink haired dude was hot as fuck.
there were many things that occurred that night :
• at 1am, you arrived at their shared headquarters, completely baffled that they all lived together. you decided that you would NOT mention anything that might offend anyone in the room right now.
• at 2am, you were drinking alcohol more pricey then your stage guitar. you weren’t by any means on the poor side, but these men lived a new version of luxury.
• at 3am, you were playing pool with the haitani brothers and sanzu. you lost. miserably.
• at 4am, you were half naked and making out with manjiro sano on his own bed. you didn’t expect the high and mighty manjiro sano to be so submissive in the bedroom.
wait…
“HUH??” WHY WERE YOU IN MANJIRO SANO’S BEDROOM?? WHY WERE YOU IN NOTHING BUT BOXERS?? WHY DID MANJIRO SANO HAVE BITE MARKS ALONG HIS NECK??
“relax dummy, nothing went beyond tongue action.” a mop of platinum hair grumbles beneath the duvet covers.
thank fuck.
‘wait. what time is it?’ you ponder, taking a look at the clock next to the bed. 3:45pm. just how much did you drink to wake up this late?
before you had anymore time to think about it, you feel a thin but strong arm yank you back under the covers,
and come face to face with a pouty mafia leader.
as if on instinct, you pull his head gently into your chest, cradling his head like he’s a porcelain doll. his arms wrap around you as he nuzzled into your body closer, seeking your warmth and comfort.
it doesn’t quite dawn on you that your cuddling a man you literally met yesterday. not because you’re naive or dense, but because it just felt right to be in each others arms.
it’s not until mochi wakes the both of you up for dinner that you reopen your eyes, realising you hadn’t moved since you got dragged down.
it’s an all out war getting manjiro to leave his bed, but when you’re swiftly abducted by the haitani brothers, he’s up and ready, chasing the idiots around claiming they ‘stole his baby.”
well, that’s one way to get a boyfriend!

Marry You
Summary: Garreth proclaims to anyone and everyone, including you, that he is going to marry you one day – despite the fact that you haven’t even agreed to court him (not that he's asked). Set during 5th year. It was supposed to be a bunch of short drabbles. One of them got out of hand (oops).
Garreth Weasley x Gryffindor F!MC
A/N: I added Garreth to DADA b/c in the game he only has like 2 classes with MC. It’s a crime that they didn’t give him the same schedule as Leander, honestly. You know those idiots would be besties and take all the same classes.
Warnings: none, pure fluff for a change, pining, *slight* Seb bashing if you squint but really he's just his moody self
Word Count: 6330
To Imelda
Garreth was elated when you handed him the fwooper feather. “Brilliant! This is going to take a moment to brew. You should get back to brewing your Edurus Potion, and I’ll tell you when this concoction’s finished.”
“Don’t keep me waiting too long,” you replied before leaving to work on your own potion. Garreth watched you walk away with stars in his eyes.
Imelda came up beside him. “Causing trouble again, Weasley?” she asked.
Garreth jumped at the girl suddenly so close to him. “Just getting started. I think I’ve got a partner in crime now,” he said.
“Oh?” she asked, raising an eyebrow. “Dragging that new fifth-year into your schemes, are you?”
He gave her a cheeky smile. “I may be dragging her into my schemes, but I’d let her drag me anywhere,” he said.
Imelda scrunched up her face in disgust at the mushy proclamation. “Ugh! Down boy,” she said. “You’ve only just met the poor girl.”
He sighed dreamily as he watched you work across the room. You seemed to have a knack for potions like he did. “Maybe, but I’m gonna marry her one day,” he said, imaging a future running a shop in Hogsmeade or Diagon Alley with you.
Imelda rolled her eyes at the dramatic boy. “Whatever you say, Gryffindor,” she said before walking off.
When his potion sparked out wild fireworks, he caught your eye in the chaos. You looked thoroughly amused, and he couldn’t help but feel that the potion had been a resounding success if it got you to smile that way. He did feel a bit guilty that he had gotten you in hot water with Sharp, but the ex-auror didn’t seem too fussed about things.
To Sebastian
Garreth was enamoured when you knocked Sebastian on his ass. Again. You were all duelling in Defense Against the Dark Arts class, and Professor Hecat seemed to enjoy seeing the Slytherin knocked down a peg as much as Leander did since she paired you and Sebastian together a second time. Garreth cheered even louder than Leander for you, and you gave the dorky pair a little salute.
Personally, though, Garreth had never had an issue with his fellow freckled classmate. He was friendly, had a good sense of humour, and enjoyed helping other students with their studies – or, at least, he used to before his sister was cursed. They had even teamed up on a prank here and there over the years. So, when Garreth saw the way the brunet looked at you, he had one thought as he smirked to himself: Game on.
You helped Sebastian back to his feet. “Nice job,” he said. “All your extra practice is paying off.”
You shrugged. “I suppose so,” you agreed. “You’ve been improving, as well, though.”
“I’d like a fair fight sometime. Get to use all my tricks,” he said. “Though, I could show you one or two beforehand if you’d like.”
You smiled slightly. “I might be interested,” you replied.
“I’ll be in touch, then,” Sebastian said with a smirk. He brushed himself off as he walked back to Ominis.
You walked back to your fellow Gryffindors. “Godric himself would be proud,” Leander said as Garreth gave you a congratulatory hug.
From across the room, Sebastian eyed the redhead as he embraced you. Garreth caught him watching and sent him a wink and a cheeky grin.
“That was bloody brilliant!” Garreth said as he let go of you.
“Thanks,” you said, beaming at him.
Leander resisted the urge to roll his eyes as his curly-haired friend seemed to dominate your attention and vice versa. He busied himself talking to Andrew. You and Garreth started talking about your recent encounter with a kneazle den out in the forest, barely noticing your friend’s absence. Soon, though, Professor Hecat stole you away to talk about an extra assignment.
Garreth took the opportunity to saunter over to the Slytherins. “You put up a good fight,” he said to Sebastian.
“Thanks,” he replied before cutting to the chase. “So, you and MC seem pretty cozy.” Sebastian had always been the jealous type.
“I should hope so,” Garreth replied. “I am going to marry her, after all.”
Sebastian raised an eyebrow at that. Weasleys were a known pure-blood family, but most of them weren’t those kinds of pure-bloods that had their children pledged to suitors from a young age.
Ominis gave the Gryffindor a pitying expression, though Garreth didn’t notice as Sebastian spoke up at the same time. “Didn’t realize your family was into that sort of thing. Arranged betrothals and whatnot,” he said.
“Oh, no, we’ll marry for love,” Garreth said confidently.
“Wait, so are you even engaged?” Ominis asked.
Garreth laughed. “No, of course not! We’re fifteen,” he replied. “Well, I’ll be sixteen next month.”
“So, are you courting?” Sebastian asked.
“Not yet,” Garreth said simply.
Sebastian narrowed his eyes at the ginger. “So, what you’re saying is, you have no actual claim to her,” he said.
Garreth shrugged, looking unbothered. “I may not have any official title yet, but I wanted to give you fair warning not to fall too hard for her.”
Sebastian laughed. “Yeah, thanks, mate,” he said sarcastically. “What makes you so certain she’d choose you, anyway?”
Garreth smirked at him. “I just am.”
He let that be his final word, as he saw you walking away from Professor Hecat. Sebastian just gaped at the overconfident boy as he left. “Gryffindors,” he grumbled.
“You do realize that includes MC,” Ominis pointed out.
Sebastian rolled his eyes. “Oh, shut it.”
To Leander
Garreth overheard you telling Professor Shah that you didn’t have a telescope. He was disappointed when she paired you with Amit before he could offer. He felt a pang of jealousy when Amit offered his old telescope to you. He tried to refocus on the stargazing he was supposed to be doing. Leander was struggling to find Sirius. He helped his best friend before they hurried downstairs, seeking the warmth of the castle.
On the way down, he overheard Amit asking you to go out to an astronomy table with him. The small pang of jealousy he felt earlier bloomed into anguish. Was Amit really trying to earn your affections? He expected to have to compete with Sallow, but he felt bad at the idea of stealing you away from the good-natured Ravenclaw. Not bad enough to back off, of course, but still.
He and Leander walked all the way back to the Gryffindor common room. Garreth flopped into an armchair with a huff.
Leander raised an eyebrow at him. “What’s got you so worked up?” he asked.
“Amit’s trying to flirt with my future wife,” Garreth grumbled.
“Oh, not this again,” Leander muttered to himself.
“Yes, this again,” Garreth replied firmly. “I’m serious, Lee. She’s the one.”
Leander just shook his head in amusement. “Yes, you’ve made that very clear,” he said. “And why is it you think Amit is trying to steal her affections?”
“You didn’t hear him?” Garreth practically yelled. He jumped to his feet and started pacing. “First, he was all, ‘Oh, let me adjust the telescope for you.’ Then he just gave her his old telescope. And then, he invited her out exploring the grounds to go find an astronomy table.”
“He might as well have proposed right then,” Leander replied nonchalantly, still reclining lazily on the couch and biting back a smirk.
“I know! I–” Garreth started, but he paused, spinning around to face Leander. He glared at the taller boy. “You’re mocking me.”
Leander let the smile break onto his face. “A bit,” he admitted. “Gar, Amit is just friendly. He’d give an Ashwinder the shirt off his back if they said they were cold. You’re reading too much into it.”
“Am I?” Garreth asked seriously, putting a hand on his hip as he eyed his friend.
“Yes,” Leander replied equally seriously. “And, with all due respect to your undying love, you barely know MC. What if you’re not compatible? What if she wants to move to Peru or something when she graduates? What if she doesn’t want kids?”
Garreth shrugged. “I don’t need kids,” he said.
Leander rolled his eyes. “Have you met your family?” he asked. “And you practically knocked me into the Black Lake jumping into my arms when you got the owl saying your brother and his wife are having a baby.”
Garreth blushed at the memory. “Okay, but they’re out snuggling up in the cold to go look at the stars,” he whined.
“Your brother and his pregnant wife?” Leander asked.
Garreth let out a frustrated groan. “No, MC and Amit! Keep up, Lee! There’s no chance he’s not trying to woo her in such a romantic setting. They’ll probably be out all night, knowing MC. They’ll cozy up as they watch the sunrise and kiss just as the sun peaks out over the horizon.”
“Ah, you’re back to the whole Amit thing,” Leander observed.
“He’s probably got his arms around her right now to ‘help’ her focus the telescope,” Garreth said. “Maybe I should go out there and–”
Garreth fell silent at the sound of the portrait creaking open. He was glad he did when he saw you stepping into the common room. “You’re home early!” he said. He had meant to say it in a cool, casual tone but ended up shouting it in excitement, instead.
“Am I?” you asked, giving him a confused look. “I didn’t know I had an appointment.”
“Well, I just heard Amit invite you out stargazing and figured you’d be gone a while,” Garreth blurted out. Leander smacked a hand over his face as he shook his head at his moronic friend.
“Oh,” you said. You shrugged. “The table was just on the castle wall. It didn’t take long to find.”
“Do you want kids?” Garreth asked, stunning both you and Leander.
You looked at him with wide eyes. “Right now?” you asked. “Because I’ll have to pass, thanks.”
Garreth’s face flamed with embarrassment. “Merlin, no, that’s not what I…Not now, just…in the future. Possibly. I mean, do you like kids?” he corrected.
“Oh. Yeah, one day. I love kids,” you replied.
“Great!” he said before he could stop himself. “Because, um, my brother is having a baby soon, and I’ll have to do a lot of babysitting. I might need a hand, and Lee here is useless with kids, so…”
Leander glared at him, and Garreth just gave him an apologetic smile.
“That sounds fun!” you replied.
Garreth’s eyes lit up. “Brilliant! I’ll reach out if I need assistance, then,” he said with a dopey grin.
“Sounds good,” you said as you made your way toward the stairs up to the girls’ dormitories. “Good night, you two.”
They both wished you a good night. Once your back was turned, Garreth smiled wildly at Leander and mouthed ‘I told you’ rather aggressively at him. Leander just rolled his eyes.
To Poppy
Garreth sprinted down the corridors to reach the faculty tower. He took the stairs up it three at a time, grabbing the handrail to whip sharply around the landings. His legs were on fire by the time he reached the infirmary. He was too out of breath to form a proper sentence when he’d met Nurse Blainey at the entrance.
“Where…How…MC?” he managed between pants as his lungs heaved to get the oxygen his body so desperately needed.
“She’s okay, so just take a moment–” she said, holding up her hands to try to get the boy to pause and catch his breath.
“I need to see her. Please,” he urged.
He looked as if he might burst into tears at any moment, and the mediwitch took pity on the boy. She led him to your bedside. “She’s stable but hasn’t woken up yet. I gave her a sedative so I could change the dressing over a rather painful wound on her leg. It should heal completely in time, though,” she explained as she walked him over.
She held the curtain around your bed back, so Garreth could step inside of it. He gasped when he saw the cuts and bruises on your face and arms. The rest of you was hidden under the blanket, and he could only imagine how much worse it got. Poppy was sitting in a chair on the far side of the bed. Garreth sat down opposite her, pulling the chair closer to the bed while turning it around so he could face the head of the it. He held your hand gently in both of his.
You were a force to be reckoned with, but right now you looked so…fragile.
“What happened?” he rasped, looking over to Poppy.
“We…It happened so fast,” she said, head bowed in shame. “We were fighting a camp of poachers, and a manticore sprang out of their tent. It had a collar of goblin metal they used to control it. It attached her, scratching her, and biting her leg.” She dropped her face into her hands. “Merlin, her scream.” Poppy winced at the memory.
“A manticore?” Garreth repeated in disbelief. “Godric’s heart, I’m glad it didn’t sting her!”
“It almost did, but I cast depulso and knocked it off of her,” she said. “I just wish I’d reacted sooner.”
“Hey,” Garreth said gently as he held a hand out to her across the bed. She sheepishly took it as she finally raised her eyes to look at him. “You saved her life. I can’t thank you enough for that.” He gave her hand a reassuring squeeze and smiled gently at her.
“O-oh. Are you two…? I mean, I didn’t realize you were more than friends,” she said, pulling her hand out of his grasp and linking it with the other one in her lap. She trained her gaze on her hands rather than the boy sat across from her.
“We’re not. Not yet, anyway,” Garreth said as he looked at you with a fond smile on his face. He turned back to Poppy with a devilish grin. “Make no mistake, though, I’m gonna make her my wife one day.”
“Wow. That’s, um, wonderful,” she said, giving him a pained smile.
Garreth chuckled. “I know everyone thinks I’m crazy for saying it, but I really do believe it. She’s captured my heart and soul, this one,” he said.
“She’s a lucky girl,” Poppy said sincerely.
“I hope so,” Garreth replied with a grateful smile. He looked back at you. “I know she hasn’t been here very long, but I don’t know what I’d do if I ever really lost her. I’d have to find a new supplier for all my potion ingredients and everything!” He spoke sincerely until the last sentence.
You let out a groan as you rubbed your head with the hand Garreth wasn’t holding. “I think I’m gonna have to close shop for a week or two,” you croaked out.
Garreth chuckled. “All the cute things I said, and you wake up for that part?” he teased.
You gave him an apologetic smile. “Sorry, Gar,” you said. “I’ll try to time it better next time.”
The sincerity in your voice nearly broke his heart. He reached a hand up to stroke your cheek. “Hey, no, I was just joking,” he said sweetly. “But there better not be a ‘next time,’ and I’m very serious about that. No more close calls like this.”
You nodded your head slowly. Your eyes were half closed. “That sounds good to me,” you said.
He managed a small smile. He’d been a nervous wreck when he heard you were in the infirmary with serious injuries. It was a relief just to talk to you. “Get some rest now, okay? We’ll be here,” he said.
“M’kay,” you agreed with a soft sigh. Your eyes were already closing again, heavy with exhaustion.
Garreth stroked the back of your hand as he carefully watched the bruises on your face fade. It was slow – barely noticeable as it happened – but after a few hours the dark, angry purple marks had shrunk with the remaining areas turned faded hues of yellow and green. He delicately brushed the hair back from your face. Your cuts were now thin lines of new flesh, pink and tender-looking. Garreth traced some of the lines on your arm carefully with his left index finger. His right hand continued to hold yours.
Curfew came before you roused again. Nurse Blainey came to dismiss the students still by your bedside. Poppy stood to leave, but Garreth requested to stay.
“I assure your she’s in capable hands, Mr. Weasley,” the mediwitch said. “I’m afraid visiting hours are over for today. You may come back when they begin tomorrow. After breakfast.”
He had skipped dinner, though he didn’t know how Nurse Blainey had known. The meal had just begun when he got the news of your injury.
Garreth trudged out alongside Poppy. “I’m glad she has someone who cares so deeply for her,” the mousy girl said as they left the hospital wing. “She’s my best friend – and only friend, really – and I want her to be happy.”
Garreth nodded with a pensive look on his face. “Thank you, Poppy,” he said. “I’m glad she’s got you to watch her back out there.”
She gave him a tight smile and a nod. She still felt responsible.
They parted once they left the faculty tower, heading to their separate common rooms. Garreth had a fitful night sleep before getting out of bed before the sun was up. He ate a rushed breakfast before returning to the hospital wing. You were sat up in the bed, eating your own breakfast from a tray set over your lap. You smiled when you saw him approaching.
“If it isn’t my favourite customer,” you said with a smirk.
Garreth rolled his eyes playfully. “How is it that was the only thing you got from my visit yesterday?” he asked.
You chuckled. “I was heavily medicated,” you replied with a shrug. You shifted to sit toward the left side of the bed, grimacing as you pulled your right leg over.
Garreth lunged forward to help when he saw your pained expression, but it was gone in an instant. You patted the newly open spot on the bed next to you. He carefully sat down, keeping an eye on your leg so he didn’t bump it.
“So, what else did you say when you came to visit?” you asked. “I have it on good authority it was quite cute.”
Garreth’s cheeks flushed. “Just, um, that I was very relieved you were okay and wouldn’t know what I’d do without you.”
“Yes, well, it would put a damper on our marriage if I was dead before it began,” you joked.
Garreth just gave you a shy smile.
You had known for a while how Garreth liked to tell people he was going to marry you one day. You thought it was funny and would join in on the joke from time to time. You took it as a compliment. He usually tied it to some praise of your skill, whether in combat, on a broom, or brewing potions. He had a flare for the dramatic, so you didn’t read too much into it. You’d heard him tell Leander he could kiss him when the taller boy had bought him a set of rare potion ingredients for his birthday.
Garreth was warm and affectionate, but he didn’t show signs that there was real weight to his jests. There were no intense stares or lingering touches like there were with a certain Slytherin. He was affectionate with you but not in an intimate way. He would give big bear hugs and would sometimes grab your wrist to drag you somewhere exciting. However, he never rested his hand on your lower back as he led you somewhere nor held your hand. Well, last night was an exception. You were fairly certain that when you had awoken last night, he had been holding your right hand, while Poppy had held your left.
Poppy. You two had become fast friends. She was the reason you wouldn’t entertain his affections even if you had thought them genuine. She had quite the crush on the kind-hearted ginger. She’d fallen for him shortly after you introduced them. She gushed about him constantly. You could never hurt her like it would if you started courting Garreth. She would be devastated.
“How are you feeling?” Garreth asked. His brow was furrowed with worry.
“As well as can be expected. The bastard took a nice chunk out of my calf,” you explained. “Human face but wicked sharp teeth, apparently.”
He looked at you with sad eyes. “Nurse Blainey said you’d recover fully. It that still true?”
You nodded. “Far as I know.”
“Good.” He bit his cheek as his hands fidgeted with the edge of the blanket. He put on a brave face before looking back at you. “And until you’re 100%, I’ll be by your side. Whatever you need.”
You couldn’t help but smile. He really was the sweetest boy you’d ever met. “I think I’ll be more than taken care of between you and Poppy,” you said fondly. “Speaking of, it’s cute that you two stayed with me together last night.”
Garreth gave you a puzzled look. “Cute?” he asked.
You gave a noncommittal shrug and forced your smile to broaden into a playful grin. “Yeah, I mean, I think it’s sweet. You two are just cute together.”
Garreth was really baffled now. Together? he thought. He and Poppy had hardly been ‘together.’ They sat on opposite sides of your bed, tending to you. Did you think he fancied Poppy? He was confused how you could. He thought he’d been rather obvious in his affections for you, while always trying to be respectful.
“Oh,” was all he managed to say.
You couldn’t tell if he didn’t like Poppy back or was just being shy about his feelings. So, you decided to probe a bit. “Have you ever thought about asking her out?” you said, attempting nonchalance.
“Erm, no. I can’t say I have,” he replied honestly. He swallowed a lump in his throat. He didn’t claim to know much about girls, but he was fairly certain they didn’t try to set up boys they fancied with their friends. “Do you…think I should?”
You blinked rapidly. You didn’t know what you thought. He and Poppy seemed a good fit. They were both so bubbly. You couldn’t imagine they’d be anything but happy together. But the imagine made you curiously sombre. “Well…” you started, unsure how you would finish the sentence.
Nurse Blainey pulled back the curtain. She scowled at Garreth sitting in your bed.
“Mr. Weasley,” she said sternly. “If you could step out, I need to examine my patient.”
He quickly did as told. Blainey changed your bandages on your leg, and he could tell two things from the stifled noises you made. The first was that you were in more pain than you let on. The second was that you were trying to hide it for his sake. That was only further confirmed when Blainey let him back in. You were smiling wide, but your knuckles blanched with how hard you were gripping the sheets.
“Has she had anything for pain today?” Garreth asked the mediwitch timidly.
“No, she’s refused the pain potion since she woke up,” Nurse Blainey replied.
He shot you a stern look. “She’s obviously in pain.”
She arched a brow at him. “She’s perfectly capable of requesting the potion herself.”
“I don’t like the potion. It makes me feel foggy,” you told him.
“So?” Garreth asked, a bit irritated by your stubbornness. “You’re recovering. And it’s Sunday. You should be resting, anyway.”
He looked to Blainey for support. “Are you in pain, dear?” she asked you kindly.
“Nothing I can’t handle,” you replied genially, though you gave Garreth a hard glare.
He crossed his arms over his chest. “If you grit your teeth any harder, you’ll shatter them,” he argued. “You’re being ridiculous.”
“I don’t want to sleep all day. I’d rather be able to hang out with you,” you said.
“Well, I don’t want to see you suffer!” he shot back, his voice cracking. He winced at his own volume.
“Mr. Weasley!” Nurse Blainey hissed. “I will not tolerate you yelling at my patient.”
“I’m sorry,” he said earnestly. He sank into the chair beside you, not wanting to draw further ire from Blainey by getting back in your bed. “Please, MC. I don’t like seeing you in pain. I’ll read to you or something while you rest.”
“You wouldn’t be bored?” you asked.
He rolled his eyes as a slight smirk came to his lips. “With you around? Never,” he replied.
“Could I maybe just do a half dose?” you said to Nurse Blainey. “My leg is starting to ache pretty badly.”
Garreth resisted the urge to insist you take a full dose. It was a start, at least.
The mediwitch nodded and fetched the potion.
“Thank you,” he murmured after you downed the liquid.
“Thank you,” you replied. “I should’ve taken it sooner. I was…being stubborn.”
He scoffed. “Yeah, you have a habit of that,” he teased.
You gave him a playful glare.
The sounds of hurried footsteps announced the arrival of a certain two Slytherins. “MC!” Sebastian said. “I just heard what happened. Are you all right?”
“I’m fine,” you assured him. “Blainey said I should make a full recovery.”
Garreth saw you wince as Sebastian wrapped you in a big hug. “Be careful!” the Gryffindor hissed.
Sebastian ignored him. He held your face in both of his hands when he pulled back. For a brief, terrifying moment, Garreth thought the Slytherin was about to kiss you. “No more taking on poachers alone,” the brunette ordered.
“I wasn’t alone,” you argued.
Sebastian side-eyed Garreth before looking back at you. “You still didn’t have proper help. You need to tell me when you’re going to do something dangerous,” he said, still holding your face. “Promise me.”
“Poppy is proper help,” you said defensively. “We’ve been fine every other time. Fought dozens of poachers. The manticore just caught us by surprise. I don’t need you to babysit me, Sebastian.”
Sebastian’s hands dropped to his sides. “You were with Poppy?” he asked.
You nodded.
“Well, I can still help keep you safe. Obviously these poachers are getting more dangerous animals,” he said. “Let me help you.”
“You can’t come running off with us every time. You’ve got Anne to think about. You should stay focused on helping her,” you argued.
Sebastian tensed. “Then stay and help me,” he asked.
You chewed your lip “I…I can’t just stop. Anne’s got you, but no one is stopping these poachers. Poppy and I are the only ones saving those creatures.”
Sebastian’s jaw clenched. “So, you care more about those beasts than Anne?” he growled.
“That’s not what I’m saying!” you insisted.
Sebastian scowled. “That seems like it’s exactly what you’re saying.” Without another word, he stormed out of the hospital wing.
“Sebastian!” Ominis called after him. He sighed when his friend didn’t stop. He rested a hand on your shoulder. “Feel better, MC.”
Ominis pressed a kiss to the top of your head before leaving, as well.
Garreth was seething until he saw the tears slipping down your cheeks and grief gripped him. “Hey,” he said gently, sliding into the bed next to you. He wrapped his arms around you in a gentle embrace. “He’s being an idiot. He’s probably just scared. I’m sure he didn’t mean it.”
You shook your head. “No, he did. He’s always getting upset with us about not doing more for Anne.” You sighed. “I mean, we’ve tried. I just…I don’t know what else to do.”
Garreth was shocked at the treatment from your supposed friend. He had half a mind to track the Slytherin down and try to shake some sense into him. But he knew it was better to stay with you, so he did. You leaned into him as the potion’s effects took hold and the drowsiness set in.
Garreth stayed with you the whole day. Poppy came by later that morning. Leander brought him lunch and a book to read to you. Natty and the other Gryffindors came to visit you in the afternoon. Even Imelda stopped by before dinner. Sebastian came back and apologized late in the evening. He seemed less than pleased to see Garreth cuddled up to you, but he didn’t comment on it.
Garreth helped rush visits along when you would start to get tired and drift off. Blainey was in and out of the curtained-off space throughout the day. She kicked Garreth out when she needed to do dressing changes. She didn’t say anything about Garreth sitting with you in your bed, though. Nor did she kick him out when you both fell asleep to him reading the book Leander had brought.
Blainey released you the next day. Garreth thought it was too soon, but you were eager to get out. He convinced the teachers to let him follow your schedule so he could carry your things for you.
“I could’ve levitated them,” you said.
“You shouldn’t exert your magic, either,” he argued. “Besides, I told you I’d be by your side until you’re all better.”
You blushed at the thought. You had always hoped to find a way to spend more time with him. This wasn’t exactly how you would have chosen to go about it, but you would take it.
To You
The manticore incident had brought you and Garreth closer than ever. Shortly after, Poppy told you she no longer had a crush on the outgoing Gryffindor. No longer holding yourself back, your own feelings for him bloomed. Frustratingly, you felt that you constantly got mixed signals from him. He still had a running joke where he would assert to others that he would marry you one day. However, he never asked you out. Though, on rare occasions, he did hold your hand – grabbing it to drag you off to see his newest brew or to comfort you when you were upset.
Unbeknownst to you, Garreth’s own feelings had grown similarly. He was head over heels for you. But he was scared. The stronger his feelings became, the more terrified he felt that you wouldn’t return them. Leander had to practically shake sense into him that he had better ask you out before someone else did. The taller boy even threatened to ask you out himself if Garreth didn’t soon. The threat almost started a brawl between the best friends until Leander explained that he wasn’t actually interested in you – just trying to motivate Garreth to get his head out of his arse.
So, Garreth came up with a plan. He went to Honeydukes on the next Hogsmeade trip, buying all your favourite sweets. He even added a bottle of his newly-perfected Fizzing Whizzbeer that you’d raved about after trying. He arranged it all in a decorative box and tied a nice ribbon around it.
He brought it to you at dinner. He hadn’t even sat down when he handed it over.
“Thank you,” you said, surprised and a bit confused as you took the present. You were elated, if a bit puzzled, when you saw the contents. “What’s all this for?”
Garreth cleared his throat. “Well, everyone knows we’re going to be married one day. And, mark my words, we will be,” he started. You rolled your eyes at his theatrics but couldn’t help smiling. Everyone else just nodded along, having heard his proclamation many times. Natty was the only one who looked shocked by the news.
“They are betrothed?” she whispered to Leander.
He rolled his eyes. “No, but it’s a long story,” he replied.
She just shrugged.
“So, I figured it was about time I started the formal process. I’d like to court you, MC, if you’ll have me,” Garreth said. He looked exceptionally nervous.
You set the box down on the bench before springing to your feet. You threw your arms around Garreth’s neck. “Of course!” you said.
“Really?” Garreth asked, dumbstruck.
“Definitely!” you assured him.
He wrapped his arms around your waist, lifting you up as he spun around. “Brilliant! Will you go to dinner with me this Saturday?”
You beamed at him as your feet returned to solid ground. “That sounds lovely.”
Natty gave Leander a confused look. “I thought they started courting months ago,” she said.
“Yeah, you would think, wouldn’t you?” he replied with a chuckle.
To Your Dad
Garreth shifted his weight from foot to foot nervously. He checked his hair in the glass of the tavern window for the eight time. It wasn’t the first time he was meeting your father. They first met three years ago when Garreth visited you over the summer between fifth and sixth years. When the door to the establishment opened and he spotted the familiar broad shoulders and greying hair, Garreth immediately stood up.
“Garreth, my boy, good to see you,” your father greeted genially.
Garreth shook his hand. “You, as well, sir,” he said. “I’m glad you were able to meet today.”
“So, what brings you out to my neck of the woods?” your father asked as he took his seat.
Garreth could feel the heat rising in his collar, and your dad had to hold back a smile. He had strong suspicions on why the young man had reached out.
“Well, sir, I wanted to discuss some things with you about the future,” he said. “Of course, I asked you to join me for dinner. I don’t want to get too bogged down in the details on empty stomachs.”
“Oh, nonsense,” your father replied, waving him off. “Let’s hear these plans.”
“Right,” Garreth said, a bit shellshocked. “Well, sir, I’ve just finished my apprenticeship with J. Pippin. I took a job with a potioneering company in London, where I intend to stay until I’ve saved enough to start my own shop. I’ve just purchased a home in Marylebone, where I hope to settle down, you see.”
“London’s a far way from Plymouth,” your father interjected gravely, unable to help himself.
Garreth swallowed thickly. “It is,” he agreed. “Though, it’s within floo range.”
“Quite right,” your dad agreed with a slight smile. “Sorry to interrupt, lad. You were saying about settling down.”
“Your daughter and I have been discussing our plans. We’d quite like to settle down together. That is to say, we intend to marry–”
“Do you, now?” you father interjected again. His brow was arched.
Garreth nodded, steeling his nerves. “I haven’t proposed yet, of course,” he continued, and your father visibly relaxed. “But, like I said, we’ve discussed it, and I feel quite certain she would say yes. I wanted to meet today to ask for your blessing.”
Your father smiled. “Yes, I thought that might be the case,” he said. “My daughter, my only child, is quite an exceptional young woman, as you’re aware.”
“I am,” Garreth agreed as worry began to set in.
“Not just for her rare magic. She has many talents. And she’s quite driven.” He levelled Garreth with a rather frighteningly intense gaze. “I have very high standards for the man with whom she endeavours to spend her life.”
“Of course, sir,” Garreth said, trying not to feel crestfallen.
“I dare say she’ll need a man of equal ambition to keep up with her,” he said. “Though, he must still put his family first. I would never condemn her to a marriage with someone less than madly in love with her. And, indeed, I would do everything I could to prevent such an unfit union. I assure you, I am not an adversary to be taken lightly.”
Garreth had prepared himself for the possibility that your father would not give his blessing, but he had not foreseen him actively trying to prevent your marriage.
“I don’t think any man fully capable of deserving my daughter, though I am aware that I am biased on the matter,” your dad continued without giving Garreth a chance to speak. “However, I don’t think I could have hand-picked a better partner for her than she has chosen for herself.”
“I’m sure I can’t fault you for feeling that way, sir. I–” Garreth broke off as the meaning of the sternly spoken words sunk in. He gaped at your father briefly before collecting himself.
A grin broke out on the older man’s face. “I’d be honoured to have you in the family, son.”
Garreth stood, shaking your father’s hand again. He pulled his future son-in-law into a hug. “Thank you, sir. I know it’ll mean a lot to MC to have your blessing,” Garreth said.
Your dad clapped a hand on his shoulder. “Well, it means a lot to me that you care for her so deeply,” he replied. “You’re a good man, Garreth. Even if you were a bit of a scamp at school.” He winked.
Garreth’s cheeks flushed. “Yes, well, I’ve come to have a certain respect for the rules these days.”
Your dad chuckled. “That’s good to hear,” he said. “I got into my fair share of trouble at Hogwarts back in my day. And I know my daughter took after me.”
Garreth laughed. “She certainly has an adventurous spirit.”
Your dad shared some stories about the hijinks he’d gotten up to in school as they shared a meal. Garreth was glad he’d gotten the asking done before eating, as his stomach settled considerably. He couldn’t wait to tell you that your dad gave his blessing. More than that, he couldn’t wait to propose. But, most of all, he couldn’t wait to finally make you his wife like he swore he would years ago.

Dare
So I got this idea from an ask I saw somewhere and now I’ve written this. I might have plans for a part two, we’ll see. I’m writing and posting on mobile so I’m sorry if there’s wierd formatting.
Disclaimer! This is very nsfw. Contains smut and smut only. Don’t read if you are underaged. Also, this is not real life. Use a condom and protect yourself.
Part 2
————————
”Have you heard of cockwarming?”
Your sudden question made Chishiya choke on an inhale as he opened the door to his room for you.
”You can’t just knock on my door and say..” He cleared his throat with a cough that might have been a bit more dramatic than he intended to ”… that.”
”Well, have you?”
”…yes.”
”Good, because I have a new dare.” You stepped through the door frame and grabbed him by the wrist to pull him along with you.
It had been quite a while since the two of you started to be in this wierd, competetive friends with benefits relationship, except no friends and only benefits. It all started out of hornyness and boredom and Chishiya took on the challenges just to spite you, even though he was just as bad at winning as you were. After a month of these games the awkwardness of figuring out the situation had stopped and now you could look up the other person purely out of lust. It didn’t really have to be a challenge behind it anymore, every reason to fuck was a good one. But you both loved a challenge so when one of you came up with one a no wasn’t on the table. Unless a yes meant that you’d lose.
You dragged him to the couch that sat in one corner of the small hotel room containing a bed, a couch and a shower that was now considered his. It was always neat and tidy. It barely looked like anyone lived there. The only sign of life was an occasional pair of shoes by the door. Once you reached the couch you pushed him down so that he was now sitting while you stayed standing in front of him, enjoying the opportunity to look down on him for once. His blonde hair framed his face which was glowing in the light coming from the window that covered most of the wall, and plastered with that infuriating ’I’ve already won this’-smirk that was all over it. As usual.
”And the dare is?” He cocked an eyebrow and waited for you to reveal this new grand scheme of yours. It was faily simple actually. You were quite proud of this idea.
You made your way on top of him, one leg on either side of his lap. His hands landed on your ass and he moved you so that you were sitting right on top of his crotch, right where he wanted you. This time it was your turn to give him a smirk when you leaned in over him, making sure that your chest, only covered by your bikini top, pressed firmly against his and your mouth barely grazing the side of his face.
”Your cock deep inside me. The first one to move lose.” It came out as only a whisper against his ear but it was enough to make his fingers dig into your thighs. You had him hooked. Just as you expected. This was the perfect challenge for him, the king of self control. Which meant that it was the perfect challenge for you to win so you could rub it in his stupid face whenever he deserved it in the future.
”You know that there’s no chance of you winning this, right?” Chishiya sounded like he had won already and you couldn’t wait to make him suffer.
”Oh, you might be suprised.”
”Any time limit?”
”My visa ends in three days so we’ve got time.”
”I guess we better get started then.”
You smiled against his ear and leaned back just enough to look down at his throat and shoulders. Maybe to sneak a glance at his face when he was busy looking elsewhere. Maybe.
He went straight to work, just like he said. His hand left your thigh and found it’s way to let a finger slide along the seams of your bikini before pulling them to the side. The cool air made you shiver and it didn’t go unnoticed.
”So eager already?” He whispered with that stupid grin of his that you wanted to smack right off his face. Or kiss away, you weren’t so sure these days. ”Do you still think you can win this or have you come back to reality yet?”
You felt him move under you while pulling his shorts down. He didn’t miss the opportunity to press his leg up into your center to earn a displeased grunt that was actually just covering up the moan that you forced quiet.
With some small manouvering it didn’t take long before he was buried inside you. He fit perfectly, warm and hard against your walls. You sighed, leaned back in against him and placed your head on his shoulder, letting his hair fall over your face.
”And now what?” He was impatient. You could hear it on his voice even though he was trying to hide it.
”Now we wait for you to lose.”
”You have high hopes for yourself y/n.”
”And you think that you have a magic dick if you think that just having it inside me is going to drive me crazy.”
”I can feel you twitching already.” He pointed it out by dragging a finger down your inner thigh. You retaliated by clenching around him, making him the one to twitch.
”Maybe my body is just trying to evict you.”
”Evict me?”
”You know what I mean.” You rolled your eyes even though he couldn’t see it. He knew you well enough by now to know that you did though, so you earned a small laugh as a response.
”Mhmm. Sure. You’re a lousy landlord.” He placed a soft kiss on your shoulder.
”Maybe you’re just a lousy tenant.”
Even though the stupidity of the situation you felt very at ease. Sitting on Chishiyas lap with your face buried in his hair and your hands resting on his shoulders was very comforting. He was holding you, rubbing your back and moving his lips wherever he could reach. It was almost sweet, if you didn’t know better. There was only one problem - him being inside you and none of you moving. Every breath he took made his lower stomach move ever so slightly against your clit and your thoughts were split between thinking about every unsexy thing you could come up with and pressing down harder on him to get some relief. You could feel his heart beat faster by the minute. The only indication that this was affecting him too.
”Hey, I have a question.” You whispered while you took a strand of his hair between your fingers and started to twirl it around.
”Do you want to give up?”
”No, and that is not a question.”
”Fair enough.”
”What does it feel like being inside someone, being inside me?”
You were genuine with your question, not trying to tease him. You were curious what it would feel like for someone with a dick and for some reason this felt like the right time to ask. An intimate question for an intimate moment. He wasn’t expecting that so it took a moment for him to figure out what to answer instead of just being sarcastic.
”Hmm… It’s warm. Soft. Wet.” He murmured as he moved his lips over your shoulder, barely touching you. ”It’s like you’re shaped after me. Hugging me like you don’t want to let me go.” He was kind of right, you didn’t want him to go.
”And when you are moving?” You punctuated your question by moving one of your fingers back and forth on his chest.
”All that. But every time I push into you I get to feel it all over again. It feels incredible. And the better you feel the tighter you clench around me. Sometimes it feels like you’re going to snap my dick in half.” You felt him twitch inside you again, which drew out a long sigh from you. You knew very well how good it felt at those moments. ”But then, right when you come, it turns into this soft pulsing around me. You get so wet. It feels incredible.”
”It sounds nice.”
”It is.”
”Much nicer than just having a dick inside you.”
”You know how to ruin a moment, don’t you?”
You smiled into the crook of his neck before placing a small kiss there.
”You feel good too. You’re warm. Somehow soft even though you’re hard. You feel so much better than the toys I have back home. They’re cold and hard and need to be bent into shapes and vibrating to get me off. I don’t need any of that with you.”
”Good to know that I feel better than plastic.”
”If you’re not nice I’ll go back to the plastic, so watch it.” Your threats meant nothing and you knew it.
”I’d be up for watching that actually.”
”I bet you would.”
———
”How long are we doing this for again?” Chishiya asked while he stretched his arms and wiggled his toes. You didn’t know how long you’d been sitting there like this. Too long. It was getting more maddening by the minute and you were silently begging that he would slip up and move. Even by accident. Would poking him in the waist be considered cheating? You were already aching with need and considering that he was still hard inside you he was just as turned on as you. How did people do this on a regular basis? You were impressed.
”I told you, I have three days.”
”You’ll die from dehydration before that.” he scoffed.
”So will you.”
You felt his hand move from your ass where it had been resting for a while now, down to your leg, swiping over your skin on your inner thigh, then let his thumb slid across where the two of you were connected. You couldn’t help but to let out a whimper.
”You’re so wet.” Chishiya lowered his voice when he said that. He sounded like he wanted to eat you alive. ”I can feel it running down my legs. You won’t last a day.”
You hated to admit it but you really were that wet. The feeling of him filling you up, the warmth of his body enveloping you and that husky voice he put on just for you were making your head spin. But you couldn’t lose, you couldn’t give him the satisfaction. There has to be something you could do to get some relief. And possible torture him a bit at the same time. And then it was like a lightbulb went on inside your head. How stupid were you to not have thought about this before?
”I just remembered something.” You said proudly. This was going to be fun.
”And what is that?” Calm and collected. You were definetely going to break him.
”I don’t need to move to come.”
You moved you upper body back so that you were looking at him again. His face was flushed, eyes deep and his lips parted slightly. Fuck, he looked good.
You let your hands wander from his shoulders down to the part of his chest that was exposed under his hoodie. You could feel his breath becoming faster under your touch and when you dragged the zipper down you could see goosebumps starting to form on his stomach. He was just as on edge as you were and you were loving it. Once the zipper was down you reached in to taste him. Starting on his collarbone, kissing, licking and biting your way from one side to the other. You let your hands explore his stomach. One thumb running across his happy trail while the other hand caressed the side of his waist and ribs. And even though you were aching for him you made sure that you didn’t move your hips an inch. You were winning this, wether you wanted to or not. What you did want was for him to flip you over and fuck you senseless. But that would have to wait.
”What was that about coming?” he asked breathlessly when you moved from one collarbone to the other.
”Ah, that. Watch this.”
You stopped your kissing spree on his chest and looked at him again. His stare was as intense as always, but there was some curiosity behind it. He was amused. Horny, curious and amused. A good combination. You let one of your hands travel down his body, all the way down until your fingers landed on your clit. And of course you were going to make a show out of it. As you moved your finger over it the first time you made sure to look him deep into his eyes, quietly moan and clench around him. The groan he let out was unlike anything you’ve heard from him before. It went straight to your core and lit your insides on fire.
”Fuck.” It was barely audible but you heard it leave his lips and you couldn’t help but to whine in response. He sounded so good. He barely ever made a sound but now that you knew how good he could sound, you had to do all you could to hear that from him again.
”That’s cheating y/n.” he almost choked on his words when you reacted to another press of your fingers.
”I’m not moving, am I? That was the only rule. That’s not cheating, that’s being smart.” Chishiya quietly groaned, displeased with the fact that he couldn’t argue with that logic.
You kept going, your fingers dancing over yourself and all your focus was on sitting still. It didn’t take long until your face was back in the crook of his neck, moans spilling out of your mouth and your body tightening around him. He was panting, leaning his head back to rest on the back of the couch and you could feel his thighs trembling underneath you. He was struggling. Your orgasm rushed through you, from the tip of your toes and out to your fingers, far too fast for you to really enjoy it but still much better than nothing at all. Somewhere in the midst of it you heard Chishiya swear again but it was drowned out by the sound of your own heartbeat. It was over before you knew it. And even though you got some release you were still far from satisfied.
”That’s unfair.” Chishiya sounded like he had just finished a marathon. His hands were grabbing onto your legs again, fingers digging into your flesh like you would lift off of him if he let go. Oh, you were definitely winning this.
”You’re welcome to come too, you know. Some people can come untouched, have you tried it? Or you can just give up and fuck me. I won’t mind.”
”You just came and you’re already asking me to fuck you?” His breathing had slowed down again and the grip of his hands were softening. Damn it.
”I’m not asking, I’m offering.”
”How nice of you.”
”I am nice, unlike you.”
Once your breathing was steady again you went back to letting your lips explore him. From his shoulders, along his throat, his jaw and right to the corner of his mouth before stopping. His lips were so close. They looked so soft. The corners were always turned upwards even when he wasn’t smiling and a small beauty mark was placed right beneath his lower lip. You wanted to taste it.
”Chishiya?” You kept your face close to his, and he let you. You could feel the warmth radiating from him and onto your face. You wanted to touch it. Let your fingers slide over his lower lip, watch him relax under them and then…
”Yes?”
”Why haven’t we kissed yet?” Because neither of you ever felt the need to do it. You knew the answer. But for some reason you didn’t like it.
”We haven’t had enough time for it.” He answered honestly and way to calm for your liking. ”My mouth is usually busy in other places anyway.” His smirk was back. Cocky bastard.
Your eyes never left his mouth but you could feel the intensity from his stare burning your already heated skin. You were almost afraid of looking up, afraid that you would get lost in that stare and feel things you didn’t want to feel.
”And you never stop talking, so there’s that too. I can’t get your mouth to stop moving long enough to catch it.” Well those things that you didn’t want to feel just flew out of the window.
”You really are an asshole, you know…” The smirk still hadn’t left his lips, but one of his hands were back to caressing your back so you knew that he didn’t take any offence. Then again, when did he ever? And when had you ever cared if he did?
Your thumb had ended up on his jawbone. You couldn’t remember moving it there. Yet the faint traces of his beard felt so nice against it. You wondered what it would feel like if he forgot to shave.
”You keep telling me that.” he whispered against your lips that somehow had ended up so close to his that there were barely any room between them. Fuck this, you could regret your choices tomorrow.
You leaned in, slowly to give him a chance to back away if he wanted to. Instead of doing that he put one hand in your hair and parted his lips. They were soft. Softer than you imagined. And damn did they feel good. Soft and warm moving against your own. You forgot to breathe for a moment, the intensity of it all was taking away all ability to focus on anything other than the feather soft touches against you. Every time you leaned in for another kiss you were met with the same desperation you were trying so hard to control. Your hands were all over him, just as his were on you. Your tounge was met with his, lips pulling at eachother, breaths warming up eachothers faces. You couldn’t get enough. You leaned into him, let him mold you, pressed yourself as close as you could and oh. Oh no.
In the midst of it you’d completely forgotten that he was in fact still inside you and you had insitinctively grinded your hips against him. You had moved. Fuck.
You slowly leaned back from his face just to be met with a smile bigger than any he’d ever given you before. God damnit, you were never going to hear the end of this.
”I told you that you would lose. I didn’t expect it to happen like that though.”
You didn’t even know how to respond. Annoyance with yourself for being so easily distracted washed over you but after a second of that you decided that, no, you weren’t going to give him any chance to gloat. So you did what you knew would shut him up. Before he had a chance to stop you, you started to ride him with urgency. You dragged your body up from his, creating the friction inside you that you needed so badly. Your hips moved by themselves, up and back down again, and you quickly found a rhytm that made everything around you disappear. All you felt was the delicious moving of his cock inside of you. This was what you needed.
You expected to hear some kind of protest from him, him mocking you or trying to tease you into being a sore loser. But he must have had it too because not only did he actually shut up for once, he started to fuck up into you with the same urgency as you had.
You fell forward onto him with his first thrust and then let him take over. His hands were gripping your waist so tight that you couldn’t move even if you wanted to. His pants against your neck sent shivers straight through you and every time he hit that right spot you couldn’t help but to beg him for more.
Your moans were filling the space between his groans and small sounds, and the slapping of skin from when your bodies connected sounded filthier than ever. There was nothing more there than the two of you chasing your highs together. Mouths searching for eachother, hands grasping and clawing on the others skin, his cock reaching as deep inside you as it could just to leave you and do it all again. Somewhere in the midst of it one of his fingers found your clit and it didn’t take long for you to finally fall over the edge, taking him with you. You saw white as your orgasm tore through you and you weren’t sure if you imagined it but you swore that you could hear Chishiya moan into your neck as he came inside you. You sure could feel him though, pressing into you like he wanted to stay forever. Like he couldn’t get deep enough no matter how hard he tried. Every press from him drew out another wave from you and you kept dragging out everything you could from eachother before eventually collapsing onto one another, gasping for air. Your whole body felt like jelly. Like all your muscles decided to leave your body all at once. You let it melt and draped yourself over him. And as lovely as always, instead of letting you cling on him, Chishiya pushed you down onto the couch while he himself stayed right where he was, lifting your trapped leg over his and putting a blanket over both of your midsections. How romantic.
For a while you both just stayed like that. Catching your breaths. Chishiyas fingers drew circles on your shin while he absent mindedly stared up into the ceiling. The sun had started to set and it left a soft glow over his face which made his eyelashes sparkle whenever he blinked. He was pretty. Not that you’d ever admit it to him.
”You have pretty good ideas, you know.” He closed his eyes completely and moved around a bit under your legs to get more comfortable.
”Wanna hear my next one? You not talking.” you muttered, pretending to be sulking. You wiggled your toes and pulled the blanket up a bit further over yourself. Chishiya didn’t answer but the corners of his lips curled a bit upwards. It would barely be noticable to others but you saw it as clear as day. You let the minutes pass by in silence, the only noise coming from outside where another pool party was going on. You wished you could find a pair of those noise cancelling head phones. Maybe there was a store nearby. You should go look tomorrow.
”So about those toys.”
Your thoughts were disturbed and you looked up at Chishiya who was happily glaring down at you with that infuriating smirk back on his face. You had made your mind up - you definetely wanted to slap it off, not kiss it. Jerk.
”If you plan on making one yourself I won’t let you come near me again. You’ll electrocute me. Vibrations are good, pure electricity is not, thank you very much.” You furrowed your brows just imagining it.
”You’re giving me ideas y/n.”
Wierdo. But of course you caved in.
”Find a toy, not one you made yourself, and I might use it. Might. There’s no promise there.” You sighed, displeased with how easy you were to talk into these things.
”Who said you’d be the one using it on yourself?”
”Do you even know how to use them?”
”I’m sure I’ll manage. Like you said before, it’s just a vibrating piece of plastic. How hard can it be?” You didn’t even have time to look up at him before rolling your eyes.
”You make it sound so sexy.”
”Does it matter, as long as it feels good?”

Oh Deer - Part Four
A/N: thank you again for all of the support!! I had to rewrite this one a couple of times because I just couldn’t decide, I hope you like it <3 I’m so excited to share my writings and I’m so astonished every time y’all leave nice comments I love them so much, thank you!! All of that said, enjoy!
Chapter Summery: Lilly is treated to a glamorous night out under the Vs’ roof, accompanied by a familiar demon, angst and tension ensues.
Masterlist | Part Five
——————————————————————————
I rolled my eyes, again, and waved away the idea. “No way, we both know Alastor fucking hates me, he just hates Lucifer more I guess.” Angel was positive that Alastor was sincere in his display earlier, I was not quite as delusional though. “He quite literally said he was fucking around.” I added. Even if I found myself fascinated with the demon, I wasn’t so naive to think that feeling went both ways.
“Maybe, or maybe he just wanted an excuse.” Angel paused and had a look of realization on his face as he broke out into a smile. “If you want some real attention though, y’know the Vs are throwing that big party if Velvette ain’t already dragging you to it you could be my plus one! Val usually keeps me pretty fucking busy all night, but they are actually pretty fun. Lots of cute demons and free booze if you know what I mean!” Angle said with a wink and laughed. That’s not a terrible idea actually, get out a little and have some fun. My streak hasn’t been so great recently so I could really use a win on that front.
“Y’know that actually does sound fun. Velvette hasn’t brought it up at all yet so she probably won’t need me there, but I also don’t have anything to wear for it, I’ll need something new. I could use some retail therapy anyway.” I said and rested my head on top of the pillow in my lap smiling. I can’t believe I didn’t think of that! Angel lit up at the sound of going shopping.
“Oh I will make sure you are the best dressed demon in the whole fucking party, don’t worry about that tuts! We want something that will show you you off!” He held up his fingers like he was mimicking a camera taking pictures of me. “You got it all babe! The tits, the ass, the smile! They are going to eat you up, especially once I’m done with you!” He ranted making me laugh. I don’t think in my whole before and afterlife I’ve ever heard someone describe me that way. “I’m serious! Al will see what he’s missing tomorrow night!” Angel teased very proud of his scheme.
“This has nothing to do with him, but I do like that idea. As soon as I get off work we need to hit the shops so we still have enough time.” I said trying to plan out the next night. Angel agreed and we worked out the time table to make sure we would stay on track. Work, then shop, then hotel to get ready, then back across town to the party. Excellent, tomorrow night will be all about what I want, it’s been a while since I could say that.
After a couple more hours of giggling and gossip, like hearing allllll about how Husk and Angel made eye contact today and it was riveting, we settle down to fall asleep while the purple lights twinkled above our heads. I tried to calm my mind, but it raced just thinking about tomorrow. This party is for high profile souls, overlords and wealthy demons in hell, hopefully I don’t stick out too much, but I like to think I’ve learned a good amount from my work. Maybe it will be enough to actually go a whole night without thinking about the radio demon, I can only hope.
The next morning there was a renewed joy in my step as I walked down to the kitchen to make my morning coffee. It didn’t matter that it was far too early to be awake, or that I was about to be yelled at for the next ten hours of my day, no, I would do it all with a smile because today I actually had something to look forward to. I cozied up in a chair in the lounge with my mug and breathed in the steam while I watched the fire in the fireplace dance.

I can’t help but wonder what makes him need to be up so early, what business could he have at 4am? He walked through the lounge and I tried to hide the fact that I was watching by playing on my phone. I couldn’t stop myself from taking in the sight of him with curious eyes, he was less put together than usual. His ears were tucked back and he wasn’t wearing his waistcoat. It was an odd sighting for him to not have it on. Without it you could see his sleeve garters which gave him an almost rugged look like he had been pouring over his desk for hours, and then you could see his little deer tail. He didn’t greet me and I was not going to be the first one of us to say anything so he passed through the room quietly. After he did, I took another sip of my coffee. Maybe his broadcast had given him some sort of trouble, or perhaps he had been returning to his M.O. from before his absence of torturing souls he saw fit on the air. I don’t care to listen to his broadcasts, when anything important happens I will know either from sinstigram or Velvette yelling about it the next day.
After a few more minutes of enjoying the peace and quiet of the early morning hotel I cleaned my mug out and made my way to work.
Upon arriving I could tell I was going to have a few extra duties today. They were already decorating the main event space elsewhere in the building, I could tell by the exorbitant number of tables and decor being moved around through the halls, and if there is one thing Velvette loves it is to micromanage how something looks. I go up to the studio and start collecting my clipboard and the ever growing list of what must get done today. Between keeping tv personalities well dressed, reshoots for the launch of Velvette’s fashion line, and now the party I think I’m going to need a second pair of arms. I guess that’s what we have the studio aids for.
“I need the Art Director for Velvette’s line in the studio, we need to confirm details and revisions.” I spoke into my earpiece and waited for confirmation before moving onto the next task and then the task after that. Finally some time later Velvette joined us in the studio and started barking her own orders as well. I joined the collection of demons flocking to her side for their morning abuse.
“Fucking finally, Lilly I need you to make sure everyone to set downstairs before you leave today. Make sure you have the vision plan and everything else I had them work up so you actually know what the fuck you’re supposed to be checking. If a single fucking chair is at the wrong angle it is your fault. Me and Vox have put too much fucking work into this party tonight for it not to look right I need perfection from you today. Even the seven bloody deadly sins are coming so if anything is not exactly the way I fucking pictured it, your leash will become very short.” She ordered and I nodded quietly. “Until then I need the stupid fucking art director for my line up here now!”
“Yes Ma’am. The Art Director is waiting for you with the concept photos for final approval.” I stated. She smiled, not exactly rare, but not exactly common especially while she was working.
“Finally you use that fucking brain of yours to get shit ready before I have to tell you to. How refreshing! In that case find the makeup artists, they keep running off to hell knows what and I’m this close to snapping one of them in half to set a fucking example, ungrateful little shits!” And with that she left to yell at the next soul she could find.
I spoke into my earpiece again, “Creative Director for Events, where are you? We need to check in immediately.” Upon confirmation that they were downstairs in the event space I headed there myself and we went over the binders of planning and inspiration the Vs had laid out. The event hall was really more like a grand ballroom, as hypermodern as the Vs were, it would seem they still found charm in some old world aesthetics. With massive crystal chandeliers hanging from the ceiling, white marble floors, and dramatically draped floor length windows, it nearly looked straight out of a period piece. The colors for the party were blue and black, sounds like Vox won that argument. The tables were being set up with black tablecloths and vibrant blue hydrangeas, I didn’t even know you could grow those in hell. There were demons running all around the space sweeping, bringing things in, decorating the stage, the bar, exchanging the drapes out to match the color scheme.
I checked every chair and table to make sure they were level, every centerpiece for dead flowers and leaves, the stage for splinters, the drapes for snugs in the fabric. “Do we have the staff apparel ready?” I asked the director. She was a short demon who was lizard like with one large eye in the center of her head.
“No, we hadn’t coordinated that yet.” Of course not. I mentally rolled my eyes, luckily costuming was my bread and butter.
“I’ll handle that then, how much staff will there be tonight?” I asked clicking my pen so I could jot in down. 100 serves, 10 bartenders, 5 bands, 45 miscellaneous staff on the floor, okay, doable. “Keep a handle on everything down here, I’ll track all of that down, do not let them fuck it up.” I said and she gave a polite nod. Awesome, 160 coordinated outfits, because that won’t take all day or anything.
I spent a good few hours tracking down various sizes of royal blue suit vests and dress pants, royal blue suit jackets, royal blue button up shirts and black ties, royal blue knee length skirts, shoes, but it was possible with the size of our costuming department. By the end of the day I had neatly organized racks of outfits for each position and each size with a skirt or pants option. Staff was just beginning to trickle in the door and I assigned a few studio aids to help make sure everyone had the clothes they required for the night. Before it was too late I did one last once over of the ballroom. Centerpieces were good, chairs good, all the ambient candles were lit, I could see the bartenders just beginning to organize the bars, the bands were setting up their equipment, I think I might have actually pulled this one off.
I breathe a sigh of relief and I finish triple checking my work. Everything is set in place which leaves only one more thing: myself. I handover to the Event Manager who has arrived for the evening and she thanks me for getting us here, something I’m not very used to hearing. I thank her and text Angel Dust that I’m on my way out the door at work and am heading out to pick out a dress. He immediately texts back that he is on his way to the front of the building as well and we will meet there. I gather myself and get there just as he is.
Angel is in good spirits as he links his lower arm with mine, which is still a bit tall for me, and we start wadding through shop after shop. We know we are on a time crunch, but Angel seems to have something very specific in mind. Finally after trying on at least two dozen dresses and probably half as many shops, when I step out of the dressing room his eyes light up and a big smile spreads across his face.
“Oh baby, that is the one!” He spins me toward the mirror and I can’t help but feel a little self conscious. “You are going to be turning heads all fucking night in this little number! We might need to hire security for you!” I laughed at the idea and attempted to pull the hem down just an inch more. It was a very short black, strapless dress with a wide square neckline and a low back. It came with a pair of matching black elbow length gloves and I could already imagine how I would pair it with accessories at home. He was right though, it looked stunning. It hugged every square inch of my body and admittedly had more cleavage than I was used to as it seemed to defy physics by still being supportive, it was beautiful.
“Angel, it might be too much, I don’t want to go overboard.” I said biting my lip, but I couldn’t stop turning in the mirror to see myself at every angle. Angel grabbed my shoulders and looked at me in the mirror.
“It’s perfect.” He assured. We bought it and took it home with just one hour left to get ready for the evening.
When he stepped out Angel was wearing a black version of his typical suit jacket and shorts, exchanging his pinkish red gloves for a baby pink pair and kept his thigh high boots, he looked incredible and I told him so, he nearly blushed for a second before lighting back up as we walked downstairs.
“Me? Fucking look at you! Little miss straight-laced, you look drop-double-dead-gorgeous tonight!” He beamed, this time it was my turn to blush. I had added a pair of dark tights and my royal blue Mary Jane shoes, with a delicate royal blue ribbon tied around my neck like a choker. I pulled my gloves up a little more to make sure they were all the way on before running a hand through my hair. I hope he is right.
“Thank you Angel, I try my best.” I said sheepishly. Angel instead upon stopping by the lounge where the rest of the group was gathered to say goodbye before we were off. We stepped into the room and I smiled awkwardly as Angel presented me, very proud of his work.
“I give to you, the new and improved Lilly!” He sang and motioned to me. Charlie looked surprised but happy, Vaggie was about the same, but had a hand on her girlfriend’s shoulder. Sir. Pentious had a light blush but reassured me that I looked very nice. Husk was trying to hide it, but absolutely eyeing Angel. Niffty squealed with joy and ram little figure eights around us manically giggling about how nice we looked. Alastor was nowhere to be found though. “Where’s the big guy? I said I needed everyone!” Angel frowned.
“Please excuse my tardiness, I too was getting ready for tonight!” Alastor chirped as he walked into the room. He was dressed very well, his suit looked new just for the occasion as it was a slightly deeper shade of red than his normal suit and it was more simple with a short tail coat and a chain across the chest and it had a very faint pinstripe pattern to it. He looked like he had gotten a fresh haircut and maybe it’s my imagination, but even his old cane looked a little fresher to match. As I finished drinking him in I realized his eyes were going over me in the very same way.
“Since when are you fucking going to a party that Vox is throwing?” Angel asked the demon who chuckled.
“Oh I wouldn’t dare miss it, so many important demons and souls there tonight. I couldn’t give Vox the chance to twist a narrative if left to his own devices! Plus,” he pulled a small paper from his breast pocket. “He invited me.” Alastor had a wicked smile on as he stuffed his invitation back into his pocket. Angel gave me a small look that told me this was news to him, as it was to me. I guess Alastor is an overlord and Vox does seem rather keen on him. Even if they are enemies, best to keep him close.
“Well, I guess we should all get going then.” I said and before I could turn towards the door shadows crushed over us and just as quickly as they appeared they dissipated and we were in front of the event room door.
As soon as I saw her in the lounge I couldn’t tear my eyes away. Her dress was the most revealing thing I’d even seen draped across her figure. The visual mixing with her timid posing made something within me tick. Every curve was on display, the dress hardly covered her ass as the hem just barely brushed the top of her soft thighs, it scarcely managed to contain her chest if she didn’t have perfect posture it could be quite the display, her exposed back left her looking delicate and accessible. An anger burned in me, traipsing through a gala in such a vulnerable position, she should be locked away from such prying eyes where only I can look upon her form like this, where I can revel in it. The gentle look in her eyes made my mind race. How dare she look like that and yet so innocent at the same time, I wanted to ruin that innocent look, I wanted her eyes to hold nothing but pleasure and lust as I did so. If a soul should so much as hover their eyes over her a moment too long I might have to restrain myself from slaughtering them. As we walked into the event room Angel was quickly called away but Valentino, who blew us a sarcastic kiss from across the busy room. My eyes stayed trained on her though, she would not be leaving my sight tonight whether she knew it or not.
Alastor seemed in no rush to find any friends as he walked behind me through the crowded space. Hundreds of demons and overlords and hellish elites mingled around me. I secretly enjoyed his company, but me and Angel had agreed that tonight was about me and as much as I was intregued by Alastor, I knew that went one way. “Alastor, if you are going to accompany me tonight,” I turned and flashed a smile at him. “Would you perhaps be able to hunt down a drink for me to sip on? It’s awfully warm.” I asked, anxiously adjusting my gloves again. He casted his eyes across the room before answering.
“Why don’t you join me, My Dear? We’ll find it together. Then I can brief you on who not to talk to.” He stressed the end of his sentence like it was very important I don’t meet certain souls in attendance tonight. He reached to place a hand on my shoulder blade to guide me forward but I stepped to the side.
“Please Alastor, I’ll find my way to somewhere quiet until you return, I’m a big girl.” I teased a little and batted my eyes at him. I don’t know what his deal was tonight, maybe he had more foes than friends in attendance, but still I know how to get out of a sticky situation when I find myself in one, especially here.
“I insist, I wouldn’t want to abandon a lady at an event like this, who knows what kind of unsavory figure could swoop in.” The static crackled off his voice at the beginning. I felt his hand meet my shoulder successfully. His eyes burned into mine and I felt there was danger that I wasn’t aware of. I gave in and slowed to allow him to guide me towards the bar. It was quite busy and in the crowd my back was nearly pressed against his chest as we walked. I could feel the heat coming off in him, he smelled like fresh rain in the woods. I kept my hands clasped in front of me and kept a polite smile on as we finally reached the edge of the crowd for my drink.
Alastor left my side by less than two steps to order me a drink, I took the chance to look around the room. There were hundreds of finely dressed demons in attendance, a part of me was very pleased to see everyone enjoying the space I had helped to create and so far not a hair out of place.
“For you, My Dear.” He said graciously as he handed me my glass, if I remember the menu correctly this is a mermaid mule, giving it a violently blue color. “Now I think it’s about time we start making the rounds to say hello, don’t you think?” He grinned and placed his hand back on my shoulder blade as we reentered the crowd. It wasn’t really a question that explain answer. I looked up at him from the corner of my eye, he was quite cautiously watching the crowd. I couldn’t tell if he was looking for anyone in particular or not, but his mind certainly had a goal it was focused on.
“Alastor, I appreciate the escort, but really I was hoping to be on my own tonight.” He did not bother to look at me, but he did seem to see someone he wished to talk to as we gently started heading a different way. “I fear you might not be the most suitable wing man.” I teased trying to smile at the taller demon.
“I’m afraid not, besides please allow me to introduce you to the darling Rosie, overlord of cannibal town!” He motioned to the women just a couple of feet ahead of us now. She was tall and remarkably pretty even with her hollowed out eyes and her sharp teeth she managed to look friendly and lively. “Rosie! A pleasure as always!” Alastor sang.
She turned and lit up upon seeing him, waving us over. “Alastor darling, it’s so good to see you! Who’s this little number you brought along tonight? You better keep a close eye on her. I could eat her right up!” Her smile reminded me of his, but it was more sincere. She spoke with a very old dialect, but it left me thinking she ought to be sipping tea on someone’s porch with a novel in her hand. I returned her smile and Alastor introduced us.
“This is Lilly, an associate of mine from Charlie’s hotel.” He said and Rosie gave a small applause.
“It is very nice to meet you Ma’am, I am very lucky to be a resident under the princess’ trust. I hope you are enjoying the evening, I helped put it together, so please feel free to let me know if there is anything at all you need. I am positive we can make it happen.” I offered and she giggled.
“Oh such a sweetheart, you are! What a very nice swaray this is turning out to be, thank you! I can’t imagine need anything not already provided!” She assured me and she and Alastor continued to talk for a few more minutes. I watched Alastor as he did, he seemed to genuinely enjoy her company, it was a nice look on him, but his ears would twitch every so often giving away that he was still on high alert.
Eventually Alastor excused us, in search of another overlord to greet. We repeated this pattern a few times, one even joked that if Alastor was going to keep such a close eye on me he needed to put me ‘under contract’, or he would. I felt Alastor’s claws ever so slightly press themselves a little harder into my skin and his laugh was clipped. Once we had a moment to ourselves again I scanned the room for Angel or Valentino, I hadn’t seen him since our arrival, but with no luck. I did however spot another V. I could see Vox chatting up an interesting looking demon, he was tall and owl like and dressed quite regally, I recognized him as Stolis, rumor had it he did love daytime dramas so I guess I can’t be too surprised.
“Alastor, maybe I should go find Angel, just to check in on him.” It almost felt futile, of course I enjoyed Alastor’s company, and the feeling of his hand sent electric currents through my skin, but it also felt hopeless to think that he was thinking what I was thinking. Thinking about how he had looked so delightfully disheveled this morning, how he might look beneath his well tailored clothes, how the heat of his body might fully wash over mine, how his hand might feel elsewhere. It wouldn’t take more than a couple skilled movement to have me out of a dress like this and I was sure he was skilled. I nearly blushed at just the passing thought.
It took all the strength I had to not sink my claws into her. Why did she want to walk away so badly, I have been nothing but the perfect gentleman all evening and still she is not content. I flicked my eyes back down to hers, I could smell a faint scent of attraction from her, how sweet it smelled. Maybe I could use that to keep her close. Clearly she wanted some kind of attention tonight, I could give her a little taste. “Do I bore you? I apologize if meeting so many people was overwhelming, but it would have been rude not to.” I grinned, I allowed my hand to drop to the bottom of her back, just above her dress. “I appreciate your cooperation, truthfully,” I walked us forward and bent down ever so slightly so I could whisper into her ear. I could smell the perfume of her attraction better here, her back was stiff and I could see her chest rise and fall with every deep breath she was taking. “I don’t trust a single soul here to be alone with you, My Dear.” I said, my tone was soft but I couldn’t help the static creeping into my voice. It was true after all, none of them deserved to even lay eyes on her.
She looked up at me with sweet wide eyes, “Is that why, Alastor, you’ve kept me on such a short leash tonight?” She asked. Oh I would love to put her on a leash. “Afraid I might find a new overlord to pester?” She smiled at her own jab. “Don’t worry, I was just hoping to find a little bit of, y’know, company tonight.” Her face flushed softly and felt that pit in my stomach grow.
She wanted some disgusting demon to see her like that, to touch her like that. The idea made me sick, and more so my anger grew. The image of her sprawled out, eyes so innocent and inviting, her hair like the halo she deserved on the pillow beneath her, for someone else? I had to control my anger or before I could explain myself we would be back in the hotel, back in my room, and I needed to be here tonight unfortunately.
And that reason was walking towards us now as my smile widened I was keenly aware of my hand moving to grip Lilly’s waist instead to keep her even closer to me.
Alastor’s grip was strong, I followed his eyes to see what he was looking at, surely what I said hadn’t upset him like this. Then it made sense, Vox. While they have been throwing punches from afar via broadcast this is the first time they will have seen each other face to face since Alastor’s return. Vox was in the same suit he always wore, but it at least looked a little better pressed today.
“Alastor! Has anyone ever told you it’s rude not to greet the host.” Vox remarked as he walked into range. “I didn’t think we were inviting just anyone tonight?” He laughed, Alastor produced his invitation from his pocket again.
“Why, you personally signed it. There was a kiss and a heart on my invitation just like you always did.” Alastor remarked, flipping it over between his fingers to prove it, making Vox scowl slightly. I held in a giggle. His annoyed eyes landed on me and I suddenly wanted Alastor’s shadows to whisk me away from here. Work is one thing, I tolerate whatever abuse the other two Vs wish to throw my way as politely as I can to keep Velvette happy, but I’m not working now, and my back is against the chest of the soul Vox might just hate the most in all of hell. The other part of me wants to stand tall, who says I can even rely on Alastor for defense here, he’s so hot and cold with me. “And Vel’s pet, what a combination! I must say Velvette has only had the pettiest complaints tonight so that is as close as a job well down can be for her, congratulations!” Vox held out a hand for me to shake. I wanted to look at Alastor for approval or an excuse, I really wanted to not have to shake his hand, but I did. An acute ringing appeared in my ears.
“Thank you, Mr. Vox.” I said plainly. There was tension in the air between the two, but they both remained polite. It would cause too much of a scene for them to duke it out here in public. I felt the anger pooling in Alastor’s muscles as it felt like he was entirely still, not even feeling the rise and fall of his chest as he breathed behind me anymore. I could feel his eyes bore into me, something I normally treasured, but now I couldn’t shake the animosity that was behind them even if that was not necessarily directed my way.
“I rather think red and black would have been a more flattering theme, but I guess blue is nice to some people.” Alastor quipped, adjusting his suit jacket proudly, Vox’s smile strained.
“It looks to me that someone prefers the blue.” Vox smirked and reached for the ribbon I wore around my neck, but before he could actually make contact Alastor moved us a step back. He held me with a force that threatened the delicate fabric of my dress.
“A gentleman would ask permission before reaching for a lady that way, and concede when she denies. Maybe you yourself are too modern for basic manners?” Alastor teased. His eyes burned bright red, contrasting his airy attitude and smile. I could feel his breath ticking the nape of my neck, under different circumstances I might let myself dwell on that feeling, I knew he was fired up. As bloodthirsty as Alastor may be, he has his values.
“You know I could introduce you to at least twenty demons here tonight who could show you a better time.” Vox couldn’t help but keep the irritation out of his voice as he stood with one hand on his hip, it almost sounded like a threat, I’m not sure if I wanted to know exactly what a good time entails for him. Vox played with Alastor’s protectiveness tonight. Ironically, here was someone who was basically offering me exactly what I claimed I wanted, but now that it’s in front of me and especially coming from him I had no interest. I was repulsed by the idea. I kept my back straight and tried to shake off Alastor’s grip a little, I don’t want to be intimidated by Vox right now. He doesn’t hold any direct power over me more than any other demon here. I’m sick of being pushed and pulled around so much.
“I’m plenty satisfied with my company. I’d like if you left us be now, I’m sure you can find time to taunt Alastor on any other day. We would like to enjoy the night.” I asserted. His plasma smile inverted. He looked like a petulant child being told play time was over.
“You’re welcome to reconsider, I’m sure Velvette would like-“
“Velvette does not care for my company, Mr. Vox.” I cut him off. I held back my shame thinking about her and forced myself to continue. “Goodnight, Sir.” He couldn’t hide his displeasure in my answer, clearly he had wanted to demean Alastor in some way by whisking away his date. He took two steps towards us, leaving just a foot of space in between. Baring his LED teeth he looked down at me.
“You ungrateful bi-”
“Be so kind as to let us get on with our evening wont you?” Alastor cut him off, static crackling off his words, he loomed behind me, his eyes practically begging Vox to push him further. He wouldn’t make the first move, but he wouldn’t step down once Vox did. Without looking past me Vox took a deep breath and straightened his tie returning to his dry smile.
“Enjoy the night. We’ll see you in the studio tomorrow.” Vox nodded in my direction with a glint in his eye. I stood in silence as he turned his back to us and rejoined the crowd.
I turned around to face Alastor. Part of me wanted to run away from here, be enveloped in his arms and just dissolve. Another part of me wanted his fingers to find somewhere else they could mercilessly sink into and to free me from my dress as we fell onto his bed. The part of me that won, however, was the part that looked at his angry eyes and smiled, requesting another drink. We could stay here if it meant he would keep holding onto me, if it meant he would continue to be just a step behind me no matter what, if it meant I was the center of his attention for a little bit longer. I knew I might have to pay for my disrespect in the morning, but that felt so far away at this moment. Right now I was safe, I was with Alastor, and that's all I wanted to think about. The ambient candle light danced in his eyes as he looked at me, and as much as he would hate to hear it, the contrast of the rich blue background only made his red hair and eyes look all that much more alluring.
He indulged my request and his grip on my waist was no longer lethal as he guided me to the closest bar in the event room. I ordered my drink and downed it to try to steady my head. Alastor gently hummed along to the band playing while leaning his back against the bar a little, he looked content and for a moment he almost looked like a regular person enjoying his night. If you wanted you could imagine him in life, whatever that had looked like, it was haunting.
“Alastor, would you dance with me?” I asked, unable to keep a smile off my face at his display. He stood up and took one of my hands in his and his grin grew as he gave me a small bow.
“Of course, My Dear, I’d be delighted.” He replied and we joined the dance floor not far away. I was, unfortunately, not a terribly skilled dancer, but Alastor led and I was able to follow. His arm snaked around my waist while the other kept my hand, my free hand rested on his shoulder. His eyes consumed me and I savored it. We had been close all night, but for the first time the proximity felt purposefully intimate. I nearly couldn’t bear the way he looked at me, half lidded eyes slowly raked over my figure before landing back on my own eyes. I wanted him to say something. Beside the fact that I was heavily focused on not tripping over my own feet, my heart raced and I’m not sure I could muster anything worth saying. This was the closest thing I could call a confirmation that he might be thinking what I’m thinking. Maybe he had been all night, maybe that was why he couldn’t let me out of his grip for more than thirty seconds. Or maybe he just liked putting on a show.
I was able to match his steps as we spun around the floor. He had a slightly softer smile playing on his lips. I hoped my nerves weren’t showing through in my smile, I felt like I had it under control, but as I held his gaze I wasn’t so sure my eyes were on my side. “You are a marvelous dancer, no need to worry, you are doing perfectly fine.” Alastor cooed, thinking that must be what’s caused my anxiety. I allowed myself I look past him for a moment to collect my thoughts. I wasn’t even an okay dancer, but it is sweet he would say so.
“I think you are the first dance partner of mine to say that. I stepped on many date’s toes unfortunately in life.” I admitted. Back in my dancing days I quickly fell down the rank of ladies at work to take out, I might be able to make you laugh but that’s about all I was good at on a date.
“Maybe the problem was more so with the partner.” Alastor said and twirled us around. “I seem to have no such problem.” He pulled me ever so slightly closer to him, my chest nearly against his. He was right, I hadn’t actually had much of a misstep at all. He was an excellent dance partner. He knew how to lead and to help me stay in time with him. Alastor gently guided my waist in the direction changes, or gave my hand a gentle squeeze. We were working in tandem quite gracefully.
The song came to an end and I wished it would last just a couple of minutes longer. Alastor released me and gave a slight bow, he was completely serious but I couldn’t help from giggling a little. Such a gentleman tonight. His hand returned to my shoulder blade and we melted into the crowd again. I thought about Alastor more, he is difficult, but it just makes me want more of him. I never know what I will get with him and as frustrating as it is it is also alluring. I pulled up the tops of my gloves a little, just to busy myself, as I caught my breath. I almost felt cold now without the heat of his body so close to mine, even though he was just a few inches further away than he had been it was enough for a chill to sweep through me. I hugged myself a little to compensate and blushed slightly when I realized how pronounced it made my chest. Almost immediately I felt a warm soft fabric cover my shoulders. I looked down at it as I pulled it closer to me and realized it was Alastor’s suit jacket before looking back at him.
“You looked cold, understandable given your attire, we wouldn’t want you to catch a chill now would we?” Alastor offered before I could even question him with a pleasant smile on his face. I smiled back.
“Thank you, though I paid good money for this dress, I ought to show it off. I don’t know when else I’ll ever get the excuse to.” I said and soothed the hem of my dress that just barely came down long enough. I moved to shake off the jacket, but his hand on my shoulder kept me from doing so.
His smile widened. “I think you look particularly lovely just like this!” His voice rang in my ears. Such a protective gentleman. I couldn’t help but to want to tease him.
I shrugged off his hand and his jacket, offering it back to him. “Please, Alastor, I insist.” He begrudgingly took it back and slipped the jacket back on, adjusting his cuffs. I looked up at him with shy eyes as I slowly traced my hands over my silhouette, seemingly to soothe my dress to anyone else. I watched as Alastor’s eyes followed my hands. “Thank you, I think I look rather nice, don’t you?” I asked sweetly. His eyes flicked back up to mine before I spun a little to give him a better look. His grip on his cane became tight. He looked at me like I was prey he was stalking in the forest, absolutely trained on me watching what I would do next. It burned into me and I loved it.
“You look very nice, My Dear. I think you know that.” He said, his voice was clipped, but not dangerous. I smiled. It was fun to get under his skin a little, especially given how he does it to me.
“Maybe, but I was just curious if you also thought so. You look quite handsome yourself, I rather like this suit on you.” I teased and adjusted his lapels a little. I could feel his breath again on the top of my head as I did so and when I looked at his eyes they were glowing a deep ruby color. His hand curled around my wrist, plucking it off of him. I could tell he was trying to decide exactly what to say, so I continued to press him. “Oh, does the touching only go one way? You’ve had your hands on me all night. I thought I might return the favor.” My heart was pounding in my chest as I looked at him. My vision darkened and for a moment all I could see was the glowing of his eyes and his crazed grin. When it lightened back up I knew I was back in the hotel, but in a room I had never seen before. My eyes found the forest that looked like it had been patched onto the room and I knew. This must be Alastor’s room.
The confidence I had held just seconds ago evaporated upon the realization. Alastor gently guided my chin so that my gaze was directed back at him. I knew my eyes were wide and my heart thudded against my ribs as I wasn’t sure if I should be terrified or thrilled, or both. His ears were flat against his head as his eyes drank me in one last time. “You have no idea what you’ve been doing to me tonight.” His voice came out low and no louder than a whisper. One of his arms wrapped around my waist like when we were dancing, but now his claws nearly pierced my skin through the delicate fabric of my dress. He held me close there, I had no answer.
Alastor used his other hand to slowly run the sharp edge of a claw along a path from my jaw, down my neck, over my shoulder, then across my back. My skin hissed at the sensation, it wasn’t even enough to truly break the skin but it sent shockwaves through my system. I stood perfectly still, I wasn’t even sure if I was breathing. I wanted him to just tell me, tell me if he craves me the way I crave him or not. I wanted more of his touch, but I was in no position to demand such a thing.
“As soon as I saw your little getup tonight,” He started to explain, deliberately fiddling with my dress’ fabric. “I wanted to whisk you up here, keep you away from any other soul who might see you in such a state.” I felt my face growing increasingly warm as he combed his free hand through my hair. “I didn’t think they deserved such a sight, but I didn’t want to upset you, My Dear, so I settled for keeping a close watch over you.” I melted into his touch as he held my cheek in his hand while he spoke. “I restrained myself then, but you have pushed me too far.” Alastor leaned his head in closer to mine, until our foreheads almost touched. His eyes were still a glowing deep red. “I’ll tell you a secret. All night I have been able to smell the lust pouring out of you, and right now is the strongest it’s ever been. You smell so sweet.” his neck dips even lower and his lips threaten to brush against my neck, the promise of sweet kisses tantalizing close. I could hear the sound of my blood pumping through my veins, I was hyper aware of every inch of my body that Alastor was touching, my muscles screamed for me to do something. Either run away or grab him and never let him go, waiting was torture. “You have to go.”
My mind raced. Alastor wanted me to leave? We were still tangled together, he made no real move to let me leave. My body ached for more of his touch, I desperately wanted more. I didn’t want to leave this moment. “Please, let me stay.” I begged, my voice breathy almost as if I was gasping for air. I didn’t need air, I needed Alastor. He slowly straightened back up and released his grasp on my waist. My skin hissed at the lack of his heat, the dewy scent of him retreating as he took a step back. He did not raise his eyes to meet mine though, instead his voice was low and gravely, charged with static and energy as he commanded me again.
“Leave.” It was not a question. I held myself back from arguing with him and backed away towards the door behind me. His shadows pooled around him on the floor. Some seemed to deliberately run in my direction as if to grab me and pull me back but any time one headed my way another would smack it back. I watched Alastor while my back was still waiting to find the wall. He was not his normal composed self, no this was raw. He almost looked ashamed, yet angry, searching for something to take that out on. I would pray for whatever creature he takes that out on if I thought it would help. The heavy rise and fall of his chest gave away just how agitated he had become.
Finally my back pressed against the wall while my hand began to search for the doorknob. I couldn’t look away, I couldn’t speak, I could barely move. Did I do something wrong? Can I fix it? I don’t want to push him too hard, but it gnawed on me, if I’d caused this outburst I want to make it right. I opened my mouth to call out his name, but before the first letter could fully form a shadow shot out to me, wrapping itself around my throat and jaw. I froze, I’ve been in the position before and did not want to make him more angry. Alastor slowly turned towards me, his breathing was labored and as he lifted his head I could see a gruesome grin on his face.
“I. Said. Out.”
I was forced backwards by the force of his shadow and only was able to disconcert the sound of his door slamming back shut as I realized I was now on the other side of it. I had fallen back from the force and found myself just staring up at his door. I suddenly felt small and alone here. Just a minute ago I had been the center of Alastor’s universe as we danced and now I was thrown aside and shut out. I wracked my brain for what had set him off so terribly.
I remembered his words, he had confessed to being attracted to me, and knowing I was attracted to him, it felt humiliating. I had felt so exposed and vulnerable in that moment, he hadn’t technically rejected me, but it sure felt like he had. My confidence had crashed. I wanted to curl up and die. I also wanted to march back in Alastor’s room and scream at him for making me feel this way, for building me up just to crush me in the end. Hot tears stung the corners of my eyes, but I forced them away. I don’t want to break down, instead I redirected the energy. You want me to leave? I’ll leave alright.
I slowly pulled myself back up and dusted off my dress, fixing myself and taking a long deep breath for comfort.. I cast one last hurt glance back at Alastor’s door and headed downstairs.
Shame, humiliation, and confusion swirled in my mind, perhaps distorting my decision making capabilities. I debated my next move, but I wasn’t in the headspace to think wisely. My feet carried me forward as if the speed of my steps could out pace these feelings. Soon my heels were clicking down the grand staircase outside the front door while my nails dug into my palm, my gloves didn’t protect me. I wasn’t sure exactly where I was walking, but I eventually found myself down an all too familiar path.
I could see the massive glowing light of the Vs’ studio signage even though I was still a solid mile away. It was as daunting as it always was, the blue neon looked like a bruise on the hellish red sky. It was fitting. The place that I looked forward to leaving everyday was suddenly a constant I could cling onto. I knew exactly where I stood here, I knew what to expect, what to do, how to act, who to be. I was thankful for that role, thankful for the rock it gave me to sink my nails into in order to hold onto something, anything, that made me feel better. Here I didn’t have to be myself and everything that entailed, I could simply be Velvette’s errandgirl, someone who did not care what that deer demon was doing back at the hotel right now. Someone who didn’t dwell on whether or not she would be able to bring herself to look into his deep ruby eyes the next time they met. Someone who didn’t miss the way he looked at her back in the ballroom with a playful possessiveness as the candle light danced behind them. No. I would be too busy for any of that.
I straightened out my back when the building came into focus drawing on a polite shy smile.
Quietly, I rejoined the event space. The party had of course continued in my absence, none the wiser to my personal angst. I cast my eyes about the room in search of Angel, unlikely as it was I couldn’t help myself. A friendly face would be nice right now, but no such luck. So I took a step forward, ever still conscious of my looks and of the crowd, and made my way back towards the bar. Alone this time, but the night was just beginning.

Showing up early to work wasn’t out of character for Dr. Carrick, but showing up at 7:00 AM when his shift began at noon could only mean one thing...  he couldn’t sleep. When his good friend, Sasha, realized he was already there at this early hour, she headed to Caffe Bene and purchased two cups of matcha latte. It was her hope that frothy green beverages would be part of a celebration and not something to lift his spirits, but to play it safe, she added his favorite honey bread to her order, just in case comfort food was required. She smiled when she stepped into his office, assuming her worry was for naught when she found him in such good spirits.
“Hey,” she smiled. “I got our favorite!”
“Awesome!” Tobias grinned. “That’s a big improvement over the Lipton tea bag I was about to brew.”
“You’re in a good mood so early in the day,” Sasha noted. “Is there a reason?”
“Sure is! I’ve got a big date on Saturday.”
“Really!” She squealed. “YES! You and Casey finally got your shit together! Now, give me the details! Where are you taking her? It better be someplace nice!”
Tobias took a long sip of his tea and slouched back in his Italian leather chair.
“Who said anything about Casey?”
“You said date... so I assumed... if not Casey... who?”
“Sophia,” he smiled to his friend’s consternation.
“Sophia? Who the fuck is Sophia?”
“I guess I hadn’t mentioned her. I treated her sister in the ER a couple months back...remember the gymnast from BU?”
“I don’t recall.”
“Her sister broke her leg during practice, and Sophia made it abundantly clear that she wanted to show her appreciation. I never called her because... well... I just didn’t. But last night, I figured, what the hell. Now... Saturday night, it is.”
“Jesus,” Sasha groaned, grabbing a slice of honey bread for herself. “You’ve spent the past eight months talking my ear off about Casey. Why the change up?”
“Because eight months is a long time, and Casey’s made it clear that she doesn’t want me that way. So, I’m done acting like some pathetic, lovesick schoolgirl. I don’t know what came over me to begin with.”
“Oh, that’s easy,” Sasha insisted. “Love, you idiot. Love came over you.”
“Exactly!” He snapped his fingers. “Something I’ve always done my best to avoid, and it’s time I get back to that.”
“Tobias...” Sasha groaned.
“Tobias, nothing. This isn’t fun, Sash. All this time hoping for something that will never be, just to get my heart ripped out? Nuh-uh. I want to have fun again, and Sophia... she’s a sight to see. She’s up for partner at WilmerHale, and she’s sexy as hell. Old Tobias would have jumped on that months ago, and new Tobias is lucky dragging his ass didn’t ruin his chances.”
“So you’d rather be with Sophia than Casey?”
“Look... I don’t love Sophia, and I don’t want to. I want to kick back and have fun. Eight months pining over Casey – longest goddamn dry spell of my adult life – nope. I’m done.”
“T,”  Sasha cringed. “I don’t need to know every detail of your life.”
“Trust me, I wish I didn’t know that little stat either! It’s time to get back in the game.”
“Did you even give Casey a chance to explain what you saw?”
“I know what I saw.”
“But it doesn’t sound like Casey at all. And... even if she was on a date... you two weren’t a couple. Tell her how you feel, and I guarantee she’ll forget about this other dude in a nanosecond.”
He pushed back from his desk, the bravado he was trying so hard to portray beginning to crack.
“Sorry, but after all the time we spent together, all the kisses and her ‘I’m just not ready yet’ professions....”
“Wait! The what?”
“Irrelevant!” He snapped. “If she’d rather be with some mid-white-bread radiologist from Edenbrook, she can have him.”
“Tobias, would you listen to yourself!”
A knock on the door distracted them, and Aurora entered the room, to Sasha’s delight. Feeling the tension, Aurora looked nervously between the two friends and colleagues.
“What’s going on here?”
“Nothing work-related,” Tobias grumbled. “Sasha was just leaving.”
“Tobias, you’re such an idiot!” Sasha turned to Aurora. “Perhaps you can reinforce that after I leave?”
“Uh...he is my boss.”
“And I’m in hospital administration. I can have you transferred to another attending tomorrow.”
“Really?” Aurora grinned. “We may have to talk.”
“Hey!” Tobias yelled. “She’s my best resident! Emery, sit down! You’re not going anywhere. Goodbye, Sasha.”
After reviewing their morning cases, Aurora silently looked over her notes as Tobias grew increasingly restless. He tapped his pen against his desk incessantly before blurting, “What?”
Aurora looked around in confusion. “What, what?”
“Why don’t you just say what you’re thinking and get it over with.”
“Because I have nothing to say. But if you plan on asking me about Casey, don’t. I’m jumping off the Tobias & Casey train.”
“What’s that supposed to mean?”
“It means I’m not discussing her with you, nor talking about you with her. You two could drive the sanest person crazy, and I’m done.”
“Fine!”
“Fine.”
But Tobias was anything but fine. No matter how hard he tried to focus he turned to Aurora again after a few minutes of typing jibberish.
“Was Casey all right last night?” he asked out of nowhere. Aurora didn’t even look up from her laptop.
“If you’re so curious, I suggest you call her and ask.”
“I don’t want to talk to her. I just want to know if she’s OK.”
“Then it seems you have a problem. Because, as I said, I got off that train. Especially since you’ve got a date with someone else this Saturday.”
Tobias looked up, stunned. “How... how did you know....”
“Your voice carries Dr. Carrick,” Aurora said, shutting her laptop with a thud. “I could hear you and Sasha talking halfway down the hall.”
“All right, so I have a date. I’m single; what’s wrong with that?”
“Nothing,” Aurora agreed.
“Then, why the attitude?”
“Because I don’t get you. You’re one of the most intelligent people I know, a brilliant doctor, but when it comes to Casey, you act like a twelve-year-old. I understand this is probably predicated on fear and past issues, but if you don’t talk soon, you’ll both live to regret it.”
“There’s nothing to say; we’re just friends.”
“Fine,” Aurora rose to her feet. “Then don’t ask me about her. I like and respect you, Tobias, but mention Casey again and I’ll be talking to Sasha about that transfer.”
“You wouldn’t,” he challenged as Aurora reached the door.
“Oh no? Try me!”
~~~~~
Saturday night at eight o’clock, Casey was home from work and was eager for her own big plans: sweatpants, the couch, a pint of Haagen Dazs ice cream, and a spoon. Her friends would be there, too, she reminded herself, so it wasn’t that pathetic.
How the past week had dragged at a snail's pace yet also went by in a flash remained a mystery to her. But not communicating with Tobias since Sunday likely inspired the former. This was the longest they had gone without contact since the attack, and while she put on a brave face, it was eating her alive. Seeing his jovial posts on Instagram didn’t help. She took them as reinforcement of what she believed to be true. He didn’t want her. At least not the way she wanted him, and he probably never did. If heartbreak wasn't enough to cope with, feeling like a fool just added insult to injury.
“I really think he’s merely protecting himself,” Sienna stated as the friends tried to agree on a movie. “He’s probably as scared as you are. We all know he cared about you.”
“Cared,” Casey repeated, bringing another spoon of ice cream to her mouth. “Past tense.”
“But that’s not true,” Bryce jumped in. “I ran into him just before he went to Donahue’s. He was heading there to tell you how he felt. I didn’t say anything sooner because you were so upset, but you should know.”
“Really? Then why the 180? He wanted to tell me how much he cared but saw me sitting across the table from Jake and did an about-face? Then he didn’t care as much as he believed.”
“In fairness, you were holding the guy’s hand,” Sienna noted.
“Barely!” Casey snapped. “Besides! He should have known better.”
“Oh, for fucks sake!” Aurora groaned as all turned her way. “Casey, stop it. I swore I wouldn’t reenter the Tobias/Casey drama, but I can’t take this anymore. You’re not exactly innocent either.”
“Excuse me?”
“Maybe Tobias jumped to conclusions because you had been giving him the cold shoulder for a week before he saw you with Jake. He probably surmised that was the reason why!”
“But she only did that because of Audrey’s post,” Sienna defended.
“Yes!” Aurora acknowledged. “Because Casey thought he was on a date with Audrey, but guess what? He wasn’t. But you were quick to believe the worst and wouldn’t give him a chance to explain. Does that sound familiar?”
“I was going to ask him about Audrey's post when we had lunch the next day... but he canceled.”
“You were going to ask him a week later? Casey, I know you’re both scared, but you’re so afraid of getting hurt that you are hurt when you don’t have to be!”
“But he didn’t even let me finish a sentence. Every time I tried to explain, he shut me down!”
“And how many of his texts did you ignore after Audrey’s post?” Bryce asked. “You need to talk to him, Case, before you guys blow this for good.”
“Exactly!” Aurora agreed. “All these games, and now he’s on a real date, and who knows...” she froze mid-sentence, her eyes wide when she realized what she just said.
“A what?” Casey stammered. “A real date? With... with who?”
“OK,” Aurora lamented, rubbing her temples. “I don’t know with whom, but if you refuse to talk to him, you have no reason to be upset if he moves on. If you don’t want him to... talk to him!”
The pain in Casey’s eyes was visible as she jumped from the couch and retreated to her room... insisting no one follow her. She wasn’t sure why she ran there, though collapsing into bed for a good cry sounded appropriate. She got into position to do just that, but the tears never came. Her emotions were a roller coaster ride she hadn’t been prepared to take. Regret, sadness, anger, and despair shifted inside her by the second, leaving her lost and out of control. The only certainty was another sleepless night ahead, and she couldn’t afford that. Reaching for a Tylenol PM on her nightstand, anger took control once again. She looked at the clock, 11:00. It was early enough. She jumped out of bed and threw on the first clothes she could find, rushing out the door to stealthily evade her friends. Tobias Carrick might be on a date, but when he came home? He was going to have to answer to her.
~~~~~
Tobias looked himself over in his bedroom mirror before heading out for the night. He had to admit... in his black silk long-sleeved Brunello Cucinelli t-shirt and matching chalk stripe trousers, he looked damn good. He slipped on his Burberry overcoat and sprayed one more pump of Oud Wood cologne for good measure, a grin spreading across his face. He still had it, and as he headed out the door for his first date in longer than he cared to admit, that old Carrick confidence was falling into place again.
Sophia insisted on meeting him at Contessa, strongly suggesting that their separate arrivals didn’t dictate how they’d depart if dinner went well. When she arrived, Tobias was already seated at their table, and he had to give her credit; the woman knew how to make an entrance. Her smile lit up the room as she sauntered his way in a spaghetti-strapped burgundy cowl-necked dress that hugged every curve and directed the eye to her most impressive assets. Her dark brown curls framed her face and spilled down over her bare shoulders, and as she got closer, Tobias felt his apprehensions melting away. Perhaps this night wouldn't be so hard after all.
“Tobias,” Sophia smiled as he rose to greet her. Taking his hands in hers, she leaned over and placed a kiss on his cheek. “You look wonderful tonight.”
“Me,” he simpered. “I lost any chance of being the hottest person in this room the second you walked in.”
“That’s OK. I’m fine being on a date with a man who comes in a very close second in that category,” she winked. “Can you handle that, Dr. Carrick?”
“Oh,” he grinned, motioning for the waiter to begin pouring the Volpaia Chianti Classico. “I can handle that and a lot more.”
“Good,” she smirked. “Then let the evening commence.”
Sophia was beautiful and captivating in every way. Her enthusiasm when discussing her quest to make partner at her firm or her little sister’s gymnastic career was endearing. And when Tobias spoke, she listened so intently he felt like the only person in the world. Things were going great... so why couldn’t he shake the sinking feeling in the pit of his stomach? At any other time, he would have thought this date was off to a perfect start, but there was one big difference between this date and all the others in his storied career: this one took place after he had met Casey MacTavish.
Sophia looked over her shoulder when Tobias’s eyes lit up, and he waved at someone seated at the bar.
“I’m so sorry,” he apologized. “That’s a board member from Kenmore. He and I have been playing phone tag for over a week, and I need to touch base with him regarding a grant we’ve been working on. Would you mind if I stepped over to speak with him? I promise I won’t be more than a couple of minutes.”
“Of course not!” Sophia replied. “Trust me, if I see one of the partners that will decide if I’m joining their ranks soon, I’ll ask you to return the favor.”
“Thank you,” he smiled. “I’ll be right back.”
Sophia took a sip of wine and decided to check emails on her phone while she waited. When she reached for her phone, a text came in on Tobias’s, which he left face up on the table. While she wasn’t proud, Sophia did manage to sneak a peek. A local politician’s robotext asking for campaign donations. Benign enough! But her thoughts on the date took a turn when something else she saw piqued her interest.
Tobias returned quickly as promised, apologizing profusely for the interruption. But, ever the attorney, Sophia wasn’t wasting time getting to the point.
“Tobias, I have to ask... are you married?”
“What?” He choked, placing his wine glass back on the table with a shudder. “God, no!”
“Then do you have a girlfriend? Because if you do, I don’t play those games.”
“Sophia, I’m single as can be...trust me. Where is this coming from?”
Knowing honesty was her only option, she tapped a well-manicured nail on his phone.
“A text came in when you were gone, and I saw the beautiful blonde on your screensaver. Who is she? And please, don’t tell me she’s your sister. I won’t believe you, and that would be creepy as hell.”
A line appeared between his brows as he clicked on his phone, and there it was.
Tumblr media
It had been his screensaver for some time, and he never thought to change it. But staring at it now, he was transported to another time as he recalled that day.
It wasn’t long after the chemical attack, and Casey had been having an especially tough day. Even a ride with a promise of ice cream from Honeycomb Creamery in Cambridge couldn't pull her from the darkness she found herself buried in. As they sat in his front seat licking their cones, he told her she could select his new screensaver. Her face lit up in an instant as she grabbed the phone from his hands, playfully sticking her tongue out as she posed. She was delighted with the blurry, off-centered, silly-faced photo and immediately set it as his screensaver.
Tobias loved that picture. Not only did he think she was stunning, but she was happy. For a moment in time, when gloom surrounded her, she found a moment of joy. She was happy... and that’s all he ever wanted for her. In the months that followed, Casey often told him he could change the screensaver, but he had no intention of doing so. Unbeknownst to her, he had made himself a promise. That screensaver would stay in place until it could be replaced by a picture of the two of them... once she was finally his. He didn’t care if it took a year or a decade; he would see it through.
“I guess I should have changed this,” he muttered. “I’m really sorry... I honestly forgot it was still there.”
But it was Sophia’s job to pay attention, and there was no way she could misinterpret his reaction.
“Is she your girlfriend? Or... an ex?”
“No,” he said sadly. “But I wanted her to be with all my heart.”
He looked up at Sophia, sincerity in his eyes. “We were just friends, close friends... I guess I always hoped we’d become more, but it wasn’t to be.”
“Oh, I see.”
“Even so... I just realized I'm not even close to being over her. I’m really sorry I dragged you into this, but... I need to get over Casey before I can move on with anyone else. I hope you’ll forgive me.”
“At least you’re honest,” Sophia shrugged. “It’s not like you screwed me and ghosted me when regret set in the next morning. So, I have to give you some credit.”
“I’d never do that,” he said emphatically. But Sophia responded with a smirk.
“Seriously?”
“All right, I would never have wanted to do that,” he grinned. “Well, now that I’ve ruined our date, do you want to call it a night? I wouldn’t blame you if you did.”
“Oh, hell no! You’re still treating me to dinner, Carrick! That’s the very least you can do!”
Tobias handed her a menu with a smile. “That’s more than fair, and please, feel free to order the most expensive items on the menu.”
“I assumed that was a given!” she smiled, reaching over the table to take his hand. “Why don’t we go the friend's route, Tobias. But... if time goes on, and this woman is too foolish to come to her senses and seal the deal with you, let me know when you’re ready. If I’m still on the market, I may give you a second chance.”
“Being friends sounds good,” he replied. “Though you’re quite a catch, I’m sure someone will snap you up before I come around.”
“Well, it will still be nice to have another friend,” she said with a squeeze of his hand.
Tobias looked at their entwined fingers just as they parted. The vision of Casey holding Jake’s hand popped into his mind... and he realized he had been a total fool.
~~~~~
Tobias had walked Sophia home hours before, but the thought of returning to his empty townhome wasn’t remotely appealing. He decided a long walk was in order; it might help with all the thinking he had to do. His mind was in a fog as he meandered down Boston’s gaslit streets, too overwhelmed to notice the dropping temperatures.
Every so often, something pulled him out of his fugue: a honking horn, music from a passing car, or a police siren whooshing by. Those he could handle, but it was the laughter of a couple passing by that sent him reeling. Their arms were wrapped around each other as they whispered sweet nothings into each other’s ears, leaving Tobias frozen in place.
How did things go so wrong? The past few months with Casey had him believing he had grown up, but when it came to matters of the heart, he still had plenty to learn. He didn’t know what the future held for him and Casey, but he knew the time of hiding had come to end. He needed to talk to her, to tell her the truth. No more treading water... it was time to move on, one way or another. He took his phone out of his pocket; it was already 11:30. Too late to start that conversation tonight, but he vowed to call her as soon as he woke up tomorrow. It was time.
He pulled his coat closer as he turned onto his street, his clarity of thought finally making him aware of the cold; he was grateful he only had a half block to go. But as he neared his home, he squinted, trying to make out the blurry figure on his steps. His heart skipped a beat when she came into focus... wearing no more than a sweater and a pair of tights, Casey sat shivering on his front steps. Head buried in her hands, she didn’t see him approach, and she was startled at his words.
“Casey?” He blurted. “What are you doing here?”
“What am I doing here?” she said, jumping to her feet in a visibly emotional state. “I was about to ask you the same thing!”
“Uh... I live here,” he said with confusion.
“I know that!” she snapped. “But you’re not supposed to be here! Or at least, you’re not supposed to be here alone!”
“Casey,” he huffed. “What are you talking about?”
She marched up to him, pounding her hand against his chest. “You had a date!” she fumed. “A freaking date!” Tears welled in her eyes as she continued. “How the hell could you have been on a real date tonight?”
“How did you even know... Aurora...” he grumbled.
“How I know is unimportant! What’s important is that you were on a date!” She struggled to hold back a sob as she continued. “So, how was it? I’m your good friend Casey, right? So you can tell me! Was it fun? Where’d you go? Did you take her anyplace we’ve ever gone together?”
“Casey, stop!” he exclaimed, reaching for her arm. But Casey jolted away as if his touch would sear her.
“No!” She hollered. “Answer me! Who was she? Is she pretty? Did you sleep with her?” She turned on her heel and began to pace, her hands flailing about. “Well, that’s a stupid question!” She spat. “Of course you slept with her! You’re Tobias Carrick!”
“What? What the hell is that supposed to mean?” he chided, with a flash of anger in his eyes.
“You have a reputation, T! Everyone knows you’ve banged anyone you’ve ever dated – and god knows how many you didn’t even bother to date! Oh, everyone except for me, that is! I guess that makes me special, huh? You hear that, Boston?” She declared. “It’s me! I’m the one person Tobias Carrick dated and didn’t fuck! I’m more rare than a goddamn unicorn!”
“Casey, stop it!” He exclaimed. “Yes, I had a date tonight. But it ended before it began and, no... I didn’t sleep with her!”
“You... you didn’t,” she whimpered.
“No! I didn’t!” He said, frustration mounting. But frustration or not, all he wanted to do was scoop Casey up in his arms and never let her go, and it took everything in him not to see that through. He may have been able to ignore his desires, but he couldn’t ignore how her body trembled in the cold. He began to remove his coat, “Casey, you’re shivering; please take....”
“I don’t want your coat!”
“Then... then come inside and warm up a bit. It’s freezing out here.”
“No! I don’t want to!”
Exasperated, he threw his head back with a groan. “Then what do you want? Why did you come here? To scream at me? Insult me? Because if that’s all you want, I’ll call an Uber to get you home."
“I came here tonight because you were on a date!” She cried. “I was sure you’d bring her home, and I needed to see it with my own eyes.”
“What? Why? Why would you want to do that?”
“Because I love you!” She yelled, the shocked look on her face making it clear she was as surprised by her words as he was.
“You... you... what?”
She wanted to run, but there was no place to go now that the cat was out of the bag. She wiped her nose with her sleeve and summoned the courage to continue.
“I love you, Tobias. I love you.” She said through tears. “And if you don’t love me, then I need to know so I can move on. Because... I love you. I’m sorry I told you like this,” she rambled. “I never wanted to tell you like this, and maybe I shouldn’t have told you at all, but it’s too late now. I... I love you. I’ve loved you for....”
Maybe it was the shock, or perhaps because he moved with the speed of a gazelle, but Casey never saw him coming. Before she knew it, his arms encircled her, their lips came crashing together, and they gave in to the burning passion that had been ignited in them for so long. Neither wanted to let. Letting go might prove that this was just another dream. But this time, the bright smiles on their faces confirmed... they were very much awake. Tobias let out a grunt as their lips came together again, lifting Casey off her feet, she giggled t as he spun her around, placing her back down again against his gate.
“You... you love me?” he gushed, joy radiating from his face.
“I do!” Casey beamed. “I love you so very much.”
“Thank God,” he gasped, pressing his forehead against hers. “Because I love you Casey... I love you so much I swear, it hurts!”
She reached up and caressed his cheek, then his jawbone, gazing into his crystal blue eyes as if she were seeing them for the very first time.
“Love’s not supposed to hurt,” she smiled.
“Then let’s make a deal, from this moment on, you and me... we’re all about love without the hurt. Can we do that?”
“I’m in... I’m in if you are,” she grinned.
“I am SO in! Casey, my date earlier today ended practically before it began because the truth is, I want you and only you.  Today, tomorrow, for the rest of my days.  I want you, Casey Mactavish. I love you... and you have no idea how great it feels to finally say those words out loud.”
“I love you, too,” she cried, pulling him into a fiery kiss that melted the winter’s cold.
Tobias began to chuckle as his hands dropped to Casey's waist. Mid-kiss, Casey pulled back with a smirk.
“Why are you laughing about?”
“If I tell you... you have to promise to not get mad.”
Casey raised a brow and gave him a teasing look. “Oh, you’ve got my attention... you have to tell me now.”
“Having you in my arms... it feels like a dream... but....”
“But?”
“Can I grab your ass, Casey? Because God knows, I’ve been dying to grab your ass. I’ve dreamt about it, and if you’re OK with it....”
“Fine! Fine, fine, fine,” she laughed. “You can grab my ass, Tobias!.”
Without hesitation, he lowered a hand to her left butt cheek and gave a generous squeeze. Casey couldn't help but giggle as a grin spread across his face.
“There! Was that everything you imagined it would be?"
“Everything and more,” he growled.
“So,” she said, after another kiss. “Is that all you/ve been imagining doing with me... or is there more?”
“Oh, hell no,” he laughed. “I have a very active imagination, and that’s just the tip of the iceberg.”
“Well, then,” she cooed, running her fingers down his lapel. “If the offer still stands... can we go inside? Maybe you could show me some of those... other things?”
Casey was right earlier that night—sleep was not to be had—but this time, neither she nor Tobias minded one bit.
Just before the crack of dawn, they lay together in his bed, Casey blissfully sleeping under his protective arm. Careful not to disturb her, Tobias reached for his phone to check the time, and there it was staring back at him... Casey’s goofy screensaver.
He held his sleeping girlfriend closer. No, they hadn’t had that conversation yet, but it was the first thing he planned to do when they woke. But he was confident—Casey was his girlfriend. He pulled her closer and snapped a quick selfie of them, immediately making it his new screensaver—a promise had been kept.
Placing the phone at his side, he rolled over and spooned behind his love, kissing the top of her head, he whispered.
“Good night, my love."
His love. At long last, Casey was his. He was hers. And he fell asleep soundly at her side, knowing that their new life had just begun.
So sorry that people don't properly read your rules! It must be kinda annoying when they come in waves
Anyways i had a prompt thjngies
Awkwardly saying you like or love a person in a situation. This isn't really one from your list so i hope you don't mind that and it can be any character you choose, I just thought it would be cute.
And then prompt thingy 2
https://www.tumblr.com/bullet-prooflove/737313967685386240/donnas-thursday-radio-show-prompt-list-dance
^17 from that list for either a Chicago Med (cause you have quite a few in your list and I like most of them but maybe Connor? I miss him) or Tim from The Rookie.
I hope this is not to much, you can choose either one of the two prompts or none at all! Whatever makes you feel beter! Happy holidays! 🥂 🎊
Tumblr media
So I went with Connor because I miss writing him so much. I'm trying to get back in to writing Med. Also feel free to submit a bunch of prompts I honestly don't mind so long as it doesn't get into double figures.
You always sleep on the left side of the bed, that’s the first thing Connor learns when the two of you start spending the night together. The other thing is how much he loves waking up next to you. You fit against him perfectly, his arms wrapping around your sleeping form as he buries his face into the curve of your throat. Your fingers thread through his, guiding his hand to the place where your heart resides in your chest. He can feel it beating underneath the tips of his fingers as he graces your skin with light, teasing kisses.
“I didn’t hear you come in last night.” He murmurs into your ear.
“You were dead to the world.” You mumble as you snuggle in a little closer.
You’re wearing one of his t-shirts, it rides up your bare thighs as he shifts against you, his hardening cock pressing against your ass. He moans as the sensitive head brushes over the fabric, his grip on you tightening just a little.
“Fuck you feel good.” He whispers, his teeth grazing your earlobe as he grinds against you slowly. “Missed you these past few nights.”
“I’ve missed you too.” You breathe as he guides you onto your back.
His lips brush over yours, it’s soft and tender as his body presses against yours with an urgency you feel in your core. It’s only been a couple of days but already you need him so badly.  Your fingertips trace over the muscles in his back, nails scratching just lightly, and he makes that sound, the one that you just love to hear.
“Let me give you a proper wake up call.” He whispers against your skin, his fingers hooking on the hem of the t-shirt and dragging it up. “I want to remind you why you should be in my bed every night.”
time for a brainrot!💭 - blue lock edition (2)
Tumblr media
i’ve been messing around with a random prompt generator once again and once again i am suffering so im dragging yall with me again
but this time instead for my beloved egoist isagi yoichi, @sonder-paradise has me brainrotting for blue lock’s beloved princess chigiri hyoma,, so ariel, i blame you
imagine being a florist! reader meeting chigiri at the flower shop you work in because his sister sent him of all people to go buy flowers to brighten up her new apartment
the long haired football player doesn’t notice you at first but you do the moment he walks in and you’re smitten
bc how can someone look that pretty??
well it’s certainly possible bc the evidence is right in front of you
wait.
he’s right in front of you?!
you yelp slightly taken back by chigiri’s sudden presence right in front of you, but he’s unfazed and simply asks for what would match with his sister’s aesthetic
you blush and you blink but your at first averting eyes suddenly start to gleam taking chigiri by surprise
you spiral into a rant about possible flower combos even adding comments on their meanings and origins and chigiri is taken back because one, he wasn’t expecting that and two, why were you kinda cute
while at first chigiri was unwilling to do his sister’s task and had wanted to get out as soon as possible, he doesn’t stop you and lets you go off on a tangent nodding and letting out hums hear and there to show that he was listening (well at least trying to; it was kind of hard to keep up with you)
but then all of sudden you just stop and chigiri blinks as he watches your face erupt in a furious blush and then you tangent on about being sorry for rambling in the first place, taking up too much of his time, not doing your job, and again he found it hard to keep up with you
you dashed off saying something about making his bouquet and while confused he couldn’t help but smile
it isn’t often that he was the one left in the dust after all
im currently obsessing over a now smitten! chigiri who comes back every week after that with the excuse of buying more flowers for his sister
can’t stop thinking about a smitten! chigiri who as much as possible tries to avoid having to tell his sister why all of a sudden, while appreciated, keeps bringing her flowers for her apartment, trying to dissect the reason as to why his cheeks are a little pink when she asks
can’t stop thinking about a smitten! chigiri who manages to turn small talk blossom into an eventual friendship
can’t stop thinking about a smitten! chigiri who watches as you lead him through the store talking about new displays of flowers you made for the day taking in how your eyes sparkle, how your hair seems to shine in the sun, and how you just seem to glow
can’t stop thinking about a smitten! chigiri who takes extra time in taking care of his hair and how his styles it the days he goes to see you after a smitten! you accidentally slipped you liked his hair one time (more than one time, but for your sake he’ll pretend it was only once; after all he can tease you when you’re finally his)
can’t stop thinking about a smitten! chigiri, while definitely one of the more quieter ones among his friend group, still has a big ass ego just like them and revels when your face is as red as his hair, especially when he’s the cause
can’t stop thinking about a smitten! chigiri who is maybe a little lovesick but is also as smug as ever and smirks always thinking about the one time he pulled a fast one while helping you cut and prepare a display of roses, slips one onto your ear, enjoying your face explode into color
can’t stop thinking about a smitten! chigiri who finally finally decides it’s time to tell you how he feels and what better way than to tell you in a language you’re quite fluent in??
can’t stop thinking about a smitten! chigiri who steals your breath away walking in one day with a beautiful bouquet filled with carnations, peonies, and different flowers in different colors all of which point to romance or love or adoration
can’t stop thinking about a smitten! chirigi who smiles gently when you flush as your eyes zero in on the red roses; a symbol of love and passion.
can’t stop thinking about a smitten! chigiri who’s face also begins to turn pink when you shyly bring out a flower crown, a lovely flower crown you undoubtedly made just for him to put in his hair, no one else’s
a lovely flower crown made just for him that’s also full of flowers that point to wanting more than the friendship the two of you have grown and cultivated for a few weeks now
can’t stop thinking about a smitten! chigiri who once again takes in your beauty in the natural sun and the look in your eyes as you carefully place the crown on his head making sure to not tangle his hair, the bouquet he made for you on the side
can’t stop thinking about a now bf! chigiri who visits his sister the next day thanking her for sending him to buy flowers when she just moved in having a knowing smile as she looks at him confusedly
can’t stop thinking about bf! chigiri who has his lock screen as the selfie the two of you took only yesterday, flower crown on his head, bouquet in your hands, a gleeful smile on your face and a soft and affectionate one on his
can’t stop thinking about bf! chigiri who hopes your relationship will bloom into something just as beautiful as the flowers you put on display
so yeah can’t stop thinking about a florist! reader and a smitten! turned bf! chigiri
YALL I LITERALLY COULD NOT STOP WRITING FOR THIS ONE I HAVE NO SELF CONTROL😭
Something Sinful Happening on Sunday
A Beau “Cyclone” Simpson x OC (Ryan Reagan) story. #3 in the series
Warnings: slight smut (dry humping)
6 weeks, 42 days, 1008 hours, that's how much time had passed since Ryan and Beau’s first date. In that time the two had been together as much as they possibly could- between life as a police officer and Navy admiral that looked a little different for them than most couples.
 True to his word, Beau had been nothing but a gentleman and they had taken things slow and not rushed into having sex. Sure there had been lots of cuddling and making out like teenagers but there had also been many hours just spent talking until the wee hours of the morning.
Ryan’s work schedule was not normal and made it hard to plan normal dates since one week she may be off on Wednesday and Thursday while the next she may be off Friday and Saturday . Beau didn’t mind, he understood better than most what crazy schedules were like and was willing to meet up whenever Ryan was available. That meant the two met for lunch (almost everyday in fact) and a few evenings a week Beau drove to Ryan’s house to spend an hour or two with her after her shift. This week Beau had invited Ryan over on her Sunday off-he wanted to impress her with his culinary skills.
As Ryan pulled her 1970 black and gold El Camino into the driveway of Beau’s 2 story bungalow she felt the weight of the work week lift away. Work had been extra grueling this week and she was having a hard time shaking it. An evening with Beau was just what she needed though and she couldn't wait to get inside and be in his calming presence.
“Honey I’m home” Ryan said as she walked in the front door without knocking and closed it behind her.  “I’m in the kitchen '' Beau hollers in response. Ryan kicked her shoes off, placing them neatly under the bench in the entryway before heading towards the kitchen at the back of the house. Everything in Beau’s house had a place and Ryan tried to respect that when she was there.
“Smells heavenly in here” Ryan said, walking up behind Beau and wrapping her arms around his waist.  He turned around in her embrace kissing her softly on the lips before taking in her appearance. The circles under her eyes were dark and her small smile wasn’t quite as bright as it normally was when she said “try to ignore the fact that I look like a hot mess.  I had every intention of wearing something cute tonight but couldn’t find the energy to do more than throw my hair up and change into these old sweats.”
“Sweets you take my breath away no matter what you have on. Did you get your errands done this morning like you wanted?”
“No, not at all, I had every intention of getting up when my alarm went off and pretending to be a productive member of society but instead I slept until noon and then binged The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. I didn’t move off my couch until it was time to drag my lazy ass over here.”
“ I think you’re allowed to have a lazy day after the week you had. I know you're tired and stressed out.  Did you end up saying anything to Sgt Hollon about your concerns for Officer Roberts not being cut out for patrol?”
“I’m not sure she wanted to hear what I had to say but yeah I talked to her. I get that his dad is a big wig on the city council, but that shouldn’t matter when the kid continues to make big mistakes. I asked him twice last night if he had searched the suspect we were getting ready to transport to the jail. He told me twice that he had and yet when I searched the guy I found 2 crack rocks in the toe of his sock. Not to mention the fact that twice this week he failed to do an inspection of our squad car before our shift started….I’ve taught him to do this not only to CYA (Cover Your Ass) but for officer safety.  Luckily I didn’t trust that it had been done and went ahead to check the back seats. I’m glad I did too because someone had ditched a knife under the bench seat. It’s bordering on an officer safety issue. Not to mention the fact that he sucks at building rapport, can’t write a report to save his life and instead of de-escalating situations has a way of making them worse.  Last night  I thought about leaving my gear in the driveway and telling command to just come get it cause I quit.  Shit I’m sorry for just throwing that all at you.”
“Don’t apologize, that’s what I’m here for. Sometimes it helps to just get that stuff off your chest even if it just comes barreling out in a jumbled mess. ”Beau said while running his hands up and down Ryan's back.  I’m just sorry your week has been so stressful and that the department seems to be showing so much favoritism because this douchebag's dad is on the city council. Maybe…..”Beau started to say before being interrupted by Ryan’s mouth covering his own in a kiss that was meant to stop him from talking.
“I don’t really wanna talk about work anymore tonight” she said before kissing Beau again quickly.
He chuckled saying “what DO you wanna do then?”
“Well…..first I wanna eat whatever yummy goodness you’ve got in the oven and then I wanna cuddle up on the couch with you…….and maybe make out like horny teenagers”.
“It’s chicken parmigiana and garlic bread and you definitely make me feel like a horny teenager. I’ve taken more cold showers in the last month and a half than I care to admit” Beau said while fixing a plate of food and handing it to Ryan.
“I’d apologize but I’m really not sorry” Ryan said, smacking Beau’s ass before taking the food and sitting at the small table in the kitchen.  “How was golf with Solomon?” She asked.
“It was alright, like usual he kicked my ass. I’m honestly not sure why I keep agreeing to play with him. Sol wants to have you and I over for dinner with him and Muriel one night soon. I told him I’d talk with you and see what your next nights off looked like.”
The conversation continued to flow while they ate dinner and once the dinner mess had been cleaned up they settled in the living room. Beau turned the TV on changing it to the NFL RedZone channel saying “Chargers are playing the Steelers tonight, mind if we watch for a bit?”
“Nope, I don’t mind” the two spent the next half hour sitting side by side on Beau’s couch watching football. Ryan was absent-mindedly running her fingernails up and down Beau’s thigh. Twice Beau’s breath hitched as Ryan’s hand got dangerously high. Ryan shifted closer to Beau on the couch, his arm behind her back and his hand caressing the side of her breast. Silently Ryan turned and straddled Beau’s lap. Her hands went to his hair as she whispered “I’m gonna need you to kiss me.”
“I think I can handle that.” Beau said, his voice thick with lust. His hand that was  tangled in Ryan’s hair  pulled her head down so that their noses were touching, their lips seeking each other out in the most sensual kiss. It was as if their tongues were dancing the tango. The kiss was slow, but intense. Beau’s other hand was kneading Ryan’s firm ass. The sensation caused her to rock her hips back and forth. There was no denying how turned on they both were. Ryan could feel Beau’s impossibly hard erection underneath her as she continued to rock her clothed hips back and forth over Beau’s. Kissing down his chin and neck  Ryan moaned “God Beau I’m gonna cum.”
“Do it baby, you've got me close too” he said as the hand that had been on her ass came around and started palming her covered pussy. His thumb stroked her clit causing Ryan to rock her hips in a frenzied manner, Beau's own hips jerked up the faster that Ryan went bucking up one last time as he climaxed while Ryan leaned back slightly squeezing her covered breasts as she rode out her own high. Ryan slumped over Beau’s shoulder, tucking her head into the side of his neck chuckling. “What’s so funny?” Beau asked.
“Oh just the fact that it’s been long enough since I’ve had sex that you barely touched me and I came like it was my first time. Can you imagine how good it’s gonna be when we do this with our clothes off? God it’s almost sinful the way you make me feel.”
“Honey I think about it all the time. Now if you’ll excuse me I need to go clean myself up and change my pants because you aren’t the only one that came like it was your first time.” Beau said, rising up from the couch.
“Don’t take too long Admiral, the football game is almost over and then it’s my turn to pick a show.” Ryan said, pinching Beau’s ass as he walked off towards his bedroom. “Aye aye ma’am” he said, giving her a mock salute.
Ryan settled back on the couch chuckling to herself “we are such horny teenagers.”
Bloodsucker Pt. 2 (Vampire!Frenchie x GN!Reader)
Takes place post-season 1, pre-season 2 once again!
Pairing: Vampire!Frenchie x GN!Reader
Word Count: 3.8k
Warnings: Blood, death, detailed violence, vampire feeding, fluff???, they’re goofy your honour
((Oh my god I’m SO sorry for how long I’ve been gone, writer's block hit me like a mf but I’M FINALLY BACK!! Back with pt 2 of the vampire!Frenchie fic B). I took some liberties on the mechanics/weaknesses of vampires in this part (i.e. they can go out in the sun (but are prone to sunburns), how they act when they haven’t been able to feed in a while, etc), which I hope doesn’t screw up anything too much. If anyone would like an explanation of how vampires work in this AU, lmk and I’ll make a more detailed post about it. Also this came out a lot more platonic than i intended I’m so sorry lol. ALSO ALSO i probably wont write a part 3 unless it’s explicitly asked for, and if you guys do want a pt 3, let me know what you’d like to see in it and maybe i'll get around to it :D anyway, enjoy!))
To say you were now incredibly worried was an understatement.
Over the few days since the whole vampire accusation, things had only looked worse and worse for Frenchie. The opportunities to feed on bodies after raids were practically nonexistent because of the newly implemented rules and the crew had gotten annoyingly creative in their attempts to “ward off” the suspected vampire among them. You were afraid you were never going to be able to get the smell of garlic out of your nose after this all blew over since they had been hanging up bulbs and cloves everywhere you could imagine; you had even found a bulb stashed away in the storage closet you usually napped in, which you were quick to throw out of the nearest porthole.
Despite the crew’s valiant efforts, Frenchie had informed you that garlic didn’t actually repel vampires, but it did cause what you chalked up to be a minor allergic reaction in them. This was good news since Jim had forced every person on the ship to eat a raw clove shortly after the initial incident. You were never fond of garlic, so the experience was less than pleasant, but having to deal with a bleary-eyed and runny-nosed Frenchie afterward might’ve been worse.
But what really had you worried was the raids. Blackbeard’s strict schedule of at least one raid per day didn’t let up in the slightest with the discovery of a vampire on board, and as time went on, you noticed Frenchie acting… weirder than normal.
The exhaustion came first, which was one of the symptoms you expected from him not being able to feed. It started with him getting more tired than usual as the day went on, and then taking longer to wake up in the mornings. Next thing you knew, he started joining you on your cat naps in the closet, where you’d have to practically drag him out while he was still half asleep to avoid getting caught. Now, even in the middle of the day, he fought to keep his eyes open, and you had often caught him falling asleep standing up while leaning against a post.
Then there was the weakness. You had never been a particularly strong person before being forced into Blackbeard’s crew, but you knew Frenchie was at least a bit stronger than you due to his height. He had always been able to handle larger crates of treasure easily with the help of Jim, but now he could hardly keep himself on two feet, let alone transport cargo. There were several times when you’d send Frenchie down with a crate, you’d hear a loud clunk shortly after, and when you rushed down to check on him, the crate would be tipped over on the floor with Frenchie standing out of breath next to it and complaining that his arms hurt. It was even easier to tackle and drag him around now since he had little strength to pull away.
This didn’t prove useful in raids, both for his well-being and your mental health.
You had practically adopted the role of his bodyguard, having to save his ass from combatants on multiple occasions. In one particular instance, the raid had started fine. Sure, Frenchie was a bit drowsy, but it was nothing too concerning to you at the time. A few minutes later you were desperately trying to yank an enraged man off of Frenchie, who was pinned underneath him and screaming for you to do something. Jim eventually stomped over and repeatedly stabbed the attacker in the back, causing him to crumple over right on top of Frenchie. After Jim quickly returned to their combat, you then spent another minute trying to haul the now dead man off of Frenchie, who could barely lift the body an inch off of his chest.
Today, you decided to keep a keener eye on your companion as you boarded a new ship. While Blackbeard did his usual drawn-out and dramatic entrance, you were already watching Frenchie out of the corner of your eye, who was standing beside you. Well, standing the best he could. He was swaying slightly in place, his eyes repeatedly fluttering shut and jolting open again once he realized they had closed. You bit your cheek and turned your attention back to Blackbeard. He was fucked.
It wasn’t long before Blackbeard finished his spiel and the crew leapt into action, eager to slaughter any adversary they could get their hands on. You took a breath to try and calm your nerves before lightly slapping Frenchie on the back in an attempt to wake him up a bit more, rushing forward to join your crewmates soon after. He jumped at the contact and swivelled his head to see who had hit him, when he very suddenly realized that they were, in fact, in the middle of raiding a ship. He cursed under his breath before sluggishly following after you, clumsily setting up his “claws” in his hands.
As blood started to spill, you saw Frenchie perk up, whirling around to stare at a man who had just recently been felled by Fang. What he failed to notice was another man coming up behind him, sword drawn and ready to strike. You were quick to cross the deck towards the two, slicing a gash into the man’s chest without hesitation before turning to Frenchie. He was about to lunge for the body when you caught the scruff of his jacket, yanking him back. “Are you fuckin’ mental?” You hissed, struggling to keep Frenchie in place.
“Wh-huh? No, no, I’m good,” he slurred, his eyes locked onto the body as his tongue darted out to wet his lips. You groaned, slapping his face lightly. That caught his attention and his head snapped back to look at you with a glare. You paid the nasty look no mind, pulling Frenchie slightly closer to you as your face darkened with annoyance.
“Behave,” you growled before letting go of his jacket to twirl around and deflect an oncoming sword with your own. Frenchie rolled his eyes, mumbling something about how he wasn’t a dog and that he could control himself, gracelessly lunging at another poor sailor soon after.
You had just knocked the sword out of your opponent's hand when you heard the tear of flesh and the choked scream that could only be accredited to Frenchie’s handy work. When you turned around to check on him, he was salivating above the bleeding man with wide, unfocused eyes. He almost got a bite in had you not immediately abandoned your own scuffle to drag him away from the dying man once again.
The raid turned into one big game of keep away between you and Frenchie, much to your dismay. You’d turn your back on him for a second to focus on not being killed, and when you looked back at him a moment later, he’d be hovering over another dead or dying body that you inevitably had to yank him back from, and the process would repeat. You were starting to worry that it looked far too suspicious to be normal, but not much was normal about the crew anyway with the way they ripped apart seamen and pirates alike.
Speaking of, the crew had torn this ship’s crew to shreds in record time, and soon everyone was standing in piles of blood, guts, and gore of their own making. Not a single soul was left alive aboard that ship.
You stopped your fretting over Frenchie for a second as you took in the sight of both the countless bodies that littered the bloodied deck, and the numb faces of your crewmates. Your heart sunk in your chest for a brief moment; the crew couldn’t keep doing this for much longer. The heavy footsteps of Blackbeard spurred you from your grief, instinctively yanking Frenchie back to your side after he had tried (and failed) to sneak over to another body.
Blackbeard’s cold gaze studied the crew, tilting his head slightly before speaking: “Alright, collect the plunder and let’s move on, lads.” His nonchalant voice cut through the melancholy mood of the crew like a hot knife, everyone flinching slightly before being quickly propelled into action. You huffed as you watched Blackbeard retreat to the confines of the Revenge, slowly turning to look at Frenchie with an agitated glare. He faltered under your gaze, taking on the expression and posture of a kicked puppy.
“You owe me big time,” you grumbled, poking an accusing finger into Frenchie’s chest. Before he could get a single apology or excuse in, you practically dragged Frenchie–who had started frequently stumbling as he walked–off of the raided ship and onto the Revenge. Despite your annoyance, you were quick to offer your support to him, letting him lean on you as the two of you trudged off that damned ship. He had protested, saying that you two had to haul treasure, but you knew he’d drop it anyway and kept walking.
It was hard to stay mad at Frenchie, it really was. The longer you walked in silence, the more guilty you felt about the whole situation.
You brought him down to his room and sat him on the bed, eying him warily as he flopped over onto the mattress and groggily blinked up at the ceiling. “So what exactly happens if you don’t drink blood for a long time?” You started, nervously wringing your hands out as you sat on the other end of the bed.
“Umm, I d-don’t know for sure,” he muttered, his head lolling from side to side as he struggled to keep himself awake, “I th-think I dry up and die or something.” You weren’t sure about the dying part, but you had noticed his cheeks becoming increasingly hollow over the past couple of days.
Again, you couldn’t help but feel like this was your fault. If you had just ignored that stupid gap in the wall, the crew never would have found out. You sighed, bouncing your knee nervously as you thought of what to do.
…Well, you did have an idea in mind, but you weren’t sure about going through with it.
Your mouth started moving on its own before you could really think the idea through: “What if I…” you paused, biting your lip with uncertainty. When Frenchie looked up at you with big eyes and that stupid pout, you knew you’d lost.
“What if I let you… feed on me?” You mumbled, your words hardly above a whisper, but Frenchie heard them loud and clear. He nearly jumped you, actually, taking hold of your shoulders and leaning forward with dizzying speed.
“Really? Like right now?” He exclaimed suddenly, sounding more energetic than he had in days. You grimaced, averting your gaze before sighing in defeat.
“I suppose. Can’t have my napping buddy shrivelling up on me now, can I?” You joked nervously, but it went right over Frenchie’s head as he grinned brightly.
“Oh my God, you’re the best!” He praised, engulfing you in a tight embrace. You wheezed, patting his back with a strained smile on your face.
“Yep. No problem,” you huffed, struggling to breathe, “just, uh, give me a sec to gather myself, yeah?” Frenchie nodded, willing to go along with anything to let him feed on you at this point. You sighed heavily, scooting backwards on the bed and leaning up against the wall, unbuttoning a few of your shirt’s top buttons to expose more of your shoulder.
“N-nothing too obvious, okay? Below the neck, preferably,” you stammered, watching warily as Frenchie practically foamed at the mouth. You straightened your back slightly, your fingers digging nervously into the tattered sheets of Frenchie’s bed as he slowly crawled on after you. It was… extremely creepy, with the way his eyes were blown wide and his lethargic movements mimicking that of a cat stalking its prey.
“Yeah, yep, ‘course,” he replied mindlessly, drawing closer and closer to you. He positioned himself dangerously close to the junction between your neck and shoulder, his warm breath fanning against your skin sending a shiver up your spine.
“How much do you think this is gonna hurt?” You questioned to give yourself a distraction, unable to stop yourself from shaking as Frenchie grabbed your shoulders to keep you still. You figured the answer was obvious, but maybe you were overestimating how painful it would be in your mind.
“A lot,” Frenchie stated bluntly before suddenly sinking his fangs into the flesh between your neck and shoulder.
You were not overestimating it.
If anything, you were severely underestimating how much it would hurt, and Frenchie’s blunt statement did nothing to describe the pain you felt.
You had to stop yourself from screaming, quickly slapping your hand over your mouth after a sharp inhale. It felt like two giant needles had just been stabbed into your shoulder, stinging like hell and almost making you queasy enough to pass out. Despite that, you clung to your consciousness, fighting to keep yourself quiet as Frenchie started to drink your blood properly. A cold creeping feeling crawled its way down your spine from your shoulder: it was excruciatingly painful and uncomfortable as you got colder and colder, but you held out for Frenchie’s sake.
Speaking of Frenchie, you couldn’t help but notice how incredibly… intimate this seemed on his part. Forget the location of the bite, Frenchie was making some questionable noises and hums as he continued to feed on you, pushing his body against yours and feverishly grasping at the other side of your neck. You could’ve sworn you saw his eyes roll back, but it was difficult to tell from this angle.
Before you could ponder that thought any longer, you started to get woozy, feeling unnaturally cold. “Frenchie,” you whined weakly, attempting to gently nudge him away. He didn’t budge, pressing himself against you further. You sighed, and with the little strength you had left, pushed against him with all your might. “Frenchie, get off!” You hissed, finally spurring him out of his daze as his fangs withdrew from your flesh. He stumbled backwards from the force, but managed to land on his feet as he was shoved off of the bed.
His breathing was heavy as he stared at you for a few seconds, his mouth parted slightly and his pupils still blown wide. It took a moment for him to process your sorry state before his skittish demeanor returned, gulping in what seemed like awe as he dragged his hands down the back of his neck to try and ground himself. He wasn’t really sure what to do now; usually his “meals” were already dead or dying. Not sure if he should move closer to you again, he could only quietly apologize: “S-sorry, sorry. God, that was…”
“Good?” You heaved, bracing yourself with your hands against your knees while your head was bowed in exhaustion. You stared up at Frenchie through bleary eyes, who had your blood smeared all over his face, looking very pleased with himself because of it.
“Oh, better than good. I haven’t had fresh blood in ages, and yours tasted heavenly.” Frenchie marveled, freezing after his unintentional hushed statement as he stared at you with wide eyes. You did unfortunately hear him, raising a brow at his mortified expression while your lips quirked into a small, teasing smile. His face flushed but he didn’t comment any further on the notion, looking away as his tongue darted out to nervously lick away some of the blood still left on his lips.
Before you could unpack all of that, a splitting migraine invaded your skull, causing your vision to go blurry as you made a strained sound of pain. You tried to hold yourself upright, but you could feel yourself quickly tipping forward from the sudden wave of dizziness that hit you.
Before you could fall far, Frenchie had swiftly caught you in his arms with a concerned cry of your name. “Oh Jesus fucking Christ, I haven’t killed you, have I?” You could faintly hear as you clung to your consciousness, trying your best to right yourself to no avail. You could feel yourself being gently picked up and moved slightly, and then placed back down on a soft surface.
“Fuck, fuck, I’ve killed them. What am I gonna tell the crew? Where am I gonna hide the body?” You could hear Frenchie fretting, the guilt finally kicking in for him. You groaned hearing his outlandish thoughts spoken aloud, weakly reaching your hand in his direction.
“I’m not dead, you fucker,” you croaked, trying to blink your heavy eyelids open.
You could hear Frenchie gasp, and a sound that vaguely sounded like something falling to the floor beside you. “I’m so sorry! I don’t know what came over me! I-I got carried away,” he apologized profusely, taking one of your hands in both of his own like you were on your deathbed. You snorted softly, a wobbly smile spreading across your face at the action.
“Relax. I don’t think you could kill me if you tried,” you teased in a weak voice, finally managing to get your eyes open to give him a look. You had expected him to be standing above you, but after a second of your eyes searching the room, you found that he had kneeled down on the floor next to the bed. You had to stop yourself from bursting into laughter at the sight.
Frenchie’s face scrunched up in confusion at your comment before a look of confusion and slight offence overtook it. “What the fuck’s that s’posed to mean? And why are you… giggling?” You managed to laugh weakly at his reaction as you turned your head away, bringing a small smile to Frenchie’s face in the process.
“N-nothing, it’s-” you cut yourself off with more hushed laughter as you looked at him again, bringing your free hand up to cover your mouth in an attempt to stifle your outburst.
“Is it because I’m kneeling? Because I’m worried that I killed my closest friend?” Frenchie taunted, though it was obvious that his words were all playful by the huge grin that spread across his face. You couldn’t stop laughing as he continued to speak, turning away from him to try and hide your face. You had no coherent answer for him, and that only encouraged Frenchie’s teasing.
“Wow. I just… this is unbelievable. I never thought you’d stoop so low, laughing at my… my concern for you,” he snarked, putting a hand on his chest in mock offence.
“Stop, stop! God, it hurts,” you exclaimed through strained giggles, clutching your stomach in pain with a wide grin on your face as your constant laughter started to give you a cramp.
Frenchie hadn’t taken your exclamation the right way initially, thinking that he actually did something to hurt you. His expression dropped almost immediately, trying to figure out what he had done as he started to withdraw his hand from yours. “O-oh, I-”
You were just as quick to snatch his hand back up when you noticed that he had started to pull away, nearly gasping as you did so. “N-no, no! You’re fine, Frenchie. It just hurts to laugh so much,” you explained hastily with a warm smile, easing his concerns.
It had been so long since you’d laughed that hard.
Frenchie’s face lit up with relief, and then quickly turned red with embarrassment. He smiled sheepishly, quite thankful that you had kept his hand in yours as he gave yours a soft squeeze. “Ah, right…”
A comfortable silence fell over the two of you as you laid on his bed, your eyes drifting down to where your hands interlocked. You had taken to idly running your thumb over Frenchie’s knuckles, a soothing gesture that you were focused on.
“B-but seriously; thank you. I, uhm… I needed that.” He mumbled, watching you run your thumbs over his knuckles with a soft expression.
“Yeah, clearly. I mean, fuck, do I even need to mention what just took place during the raid?” You ragged, playfully rolling your eyes as the lightheadedness slowly dissipated from your body. You sat up slowly with Frenchie’s help, hissing quietly as the puncture wounds on between your neck and shoulder were jostled.
Frenchie scoffed exasperatedly, slapping your arm lightly as a light blush spread across his face again. “Will you shut up? It wasn’t that bad.”
You gave Frenchie an unimpressed look, raising your eyebrows. You opened your mouth to rebuke him, but he was quick to shush you before a single sound could come from you.
“I don’t need you to recount it, thank you.”
You laughed again, hesitantly cupping one side of Frenchie’s face with your hand, who was still kneeling on the floor. “You're welcome,” you smiled, pressing a quick kiss to Frenchie’s forehead. He blinked in surprise, inhaling sharply at the soft gesture of affection. A conflicted expression crossed his face as he looked up at you with wide eyes.
”Why… why are you doing this for me, anyways?” He questioned quietly, pouting slightly. You pursed your lips, not exactly sure why you were going to such lengths for him in the first place; you had barely known him for more than a few months, and yet here you were, risking your life for him.
”…Because you’re my friend, and that’s what friends do,” you answered hesitantly, still not totally confident in your reasoning.
Frenchie seemed to catch onto this, looking amused as he raised a brow at you: “Yeah, because normal people are always letting their vampire friends feed on them.”
You groaned, dragging a hand down your face. “Shut up. I just care about you, okay? Is that illegal now? Am I going to be arrested?” You argued playfully, rolling your eyes.
Frenchie chuckled, still not quite content with your answer. “You care about a vampire? A monster?”
”I do. Shoot me,” you snapped sarcastically, choosing not to comment on his monster classification just yet. That seemed like a completely different problem to unpack, and you were too exhausted—both physically and mentally—to properly address it just yet.
Frenchie barked out another laugh, finally dragging himself off of the floor to sit next to you on the bed. “Okay, whatever you say, you weirdo,” he finally caved, dropping the subject for now. You snorted at his name calling, shaking your head with a smile.
Frenchie’s eyes drifted back to the puncture wounds at the base of your neck, wincing at how deep they were. They weren’t bleeding, but there was blood smeared around the area from how hurriedly he was feeding. Heat rose to his face again at the thought, but he quickly tried to distract himself from it by getting up to get a rag and some bandages.
”Let’s get you patched up, yeah?” He smiled bashfully at you, nervously wiping at his mouth again in case there was any blood left behind. You chuckled at the gesture, bringing your legs up onto the bed to sit criss crossed.
”That’d be appreciated, yes.”
Thanks for the tags @shrekgogurt, @blackberrysummerblog, & @ic3-que3n ❤️❤️
Today in updates no one asked for, I’ve been picking at two long projects and start/stopping so many others… writing hasn’t been a huge priority for me right now and I haven’t been pushing myself to share but it makes me so happy to see y’all out here creating & thriving, even when I’m silent.
Long project #1 is my Drag Queen Baz fic, All I Ever Wanted was the World, which lives rent-free in my head. At any given point in a day, I’m thinking about this fic. I’m so so so close to the good part but for some reason I’m dragging my feet on the way there. Longfics are such a labor of love and I’m really enjoying the process.
Here’s a well-timed bit:
Niamh gives me an approving nod when she sees I’ve prepared fish tacos. “Nice timing,” she says, grabbing a plate.
It takes me a second to realise she’s referencing the Wanker’s daily theme and not the fact I’ve brought food on one of the days she works a double. I show her my nails, painted in varying shades of oranges, pinks, and red. “Not a coincidence.”
(Like I’d forget it’s Women Loving Wednesdays.)
Happy Women Loving Wednesdays! I spent a lot of time plotting out the Wanker’s daily specials when I was blocked on writing the fic, and it’s paid off.
Long project #2 is a ZimBits they-didn’t-kiss-at-graduation AU, which is one of my fav tropes, and it’s Christmas-themed so it’s helping me get in the spirit. I also wanted to get back in the flow of writing third person in case I ever try original writing again.
Here, have one of my favorite stupid puns:
Bitty was certain Jack would slip under the pressure of NHL life with an ever increasing delay in replies to Bitty’s phone calls and texts.
But if anything they’re closer for the distance. Jack’s the only one of Bitty’s friends who’ve made the trek down to Madison twice: first, that summer after graduation.
“I feared if I didn’t come in person, you wouldn’t stop sending apolo-pies for missing my graduation.”
“They’re a-pie-logies,” Bitty sniffed into Jack’s shoulder, wrapped in a tight hug neither of them seemed likely to break anytime soon, despite the July heat.
“Whatever you say, Bits.”
Side note: I’m seeking a beta if you read ZimBits/Check Please because this fic is kicking my ass.
Love Sea Ep 3 Thoughts
I just had the kind of day that makes you fall back in love with life a little bit. So what better time to watch Love Sea than right now? I will say I have been warned that certain parts of this episode will make me angry. So odds are, if you like the show, you won’t like my thoughts. But I’ll go in with an open mind. Episode 2 was fine. Right? Right. Anyway, just in case, if you click the read more and you don’t like what I say…that’s on you. You were warned. So let’s do this thing. Episode 3 time.
This time the movie I watched before this show didn’t have literally the best sound mixing I’ve ever heard in my entire life. So I think my ears are safe this time. It won’t be good but at least I’m not going from the best to…this.
IQIYI translate texts challenge 2k24. I said it last time and I’ll say it again. I am very skilled. I have many talents. Reading Thai is not one of them. What’s the point of paying for this streaming service if they’re only gonna half ass the subs? Anyway. Give the translators a raise and hire more of them. Or face my wrath in the form of one tiny little post under a read more on the internet that you will never see. But you should feel my scorn. Feel it!
Rak better keep his glasses. I swear if Rak loses his glasses….
It is raining in the show so I feel the need to tell y’all that I bought two umbrellas today! They were both on clearance. Isn’t that great? My collection grows.
Oh also IQIYI translate the fucking spoken words too challenge??? Girl what is going on.
Tumblr media
I have no context for this line. Zero. Why are they talking about her boobs? What is happening in the rest of the conversation. Cause I also can’t speak Thai. I wish I could. That language is simply not in my wheelhouse.
I could be watching the Stray Kid’s cover of Sherlock for the millionth time but instead I’m listening to a Thai phone call that means nothing to me. All I know is she mentioned her boobs.
Noisy drunk street people go home challenge. Go home and stop conversatin right outside my apartment. Do that elsewhere. You have now left the bar cause it’s closed. My apartment is not open for business so I don’t know why you’re loitering outside it. Time to blast some kpop real quick. That typically works. Oh they left before I got to play any music. They must have a sixth sense.
Thank god I got this conversation fully subbed. The fuck is up with his dad? Actually. You know what? I don’t want to know. Whatever it is, it’s bad. And I don’t want that. I don’t trust MAME to do trauma actually. Well. I trust MAME will do trauma but I don’t trust her to do it well.
I STILL CAN’T READ THAI.
I did not gain that skill in the last 15 minutes. Why are they doing this to me specifically?
I am enjoying this song a whole lot.
Why are we getting flashbacks in every episode? MAME is a better writer than this. Why is she relying so heavily on flashbacks? I’m so confused.
Rak, do not go to a secondary location with that man. Dear Mut, what the fuck? He has said no. That is a complete sentence. And believe it or not, he does not need to explain it to you. He was being generous by telling you why he said no. But you are going to force him to go somewhere else? Have you considered I hate you and will kick you right in the balls?
The music is trying to convince me this is romantic but honestly I’m just confused.
THEY DIDN’T EVEN WEAR HELMETS. And then my soul was launched from my body straight into the sun and I feel nothing anymore.
Oh to be stargazing on a beach while laying next to a hot boy and having deep conversations about life. Oh if only that were me. Hey real quick, anyone want to go stargazing with me? I’ve never been stargazing and I think I should do it.
I’ve only been watching this episode for 23 minutes. I thought it was almost over. This shit is dragging. The directing in this show needs significant work. There is not enough movement on screen in far too many scenes. Even when We Are had two characters (Tan and Fang) just standing and talking, it wasn’t difficult to watch because they were both constantly moving. Well, mostly Tan. But Fang did too. There was something for the eye to catch. Something to watch. With Love Sea, they have Rak and Mut just stand and talk, or sit and talk, or lay down and talk, and there is not nearly enough movement. They need to be doing something. I am moving more just sitting on my ass on my couch (shoveling cake in my mouth) while I watch than these two are doing on screen and that is a directorial problem. Imagine working with an established actor pair who are known partially for their chemistry together and just…having them lay there. I was prepared to go into this show mad at it for the typical MAME reasons but honestly, I’m mostly mad that the show elements are bad. The writing is not up to MAME’s usual standard and the directing is ass. The music is par for the course and I’m more objective about it this week at least.
FINALLY. Some movement. God that took forever.
It must be nice to be able to read Thai and know what the fuck is being said.
People stop reading over Rak’s shoulder. Let him have some privacy. The fuck?
If someone forcibly made me cover up like that on a hot day, I would pull a gun outta my ass and shoot them. It is HOT. I am SWEATY. Let me BREATHE.
MUT. NO DOES ME NO. BUT NOT WHEN YOU’RE TRYING TO OVERRIDE SOMEONE’S AUTONOMY. LET RAK’S TITS BREATHE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD. LET THEM BREATHE.
Save Mook. Seriously. Save her.
Horny boys.
This scene would have far more emotional impact if we had any more time with these characters. Literally we started the episode with Rak refusing to go somewhere with Mut and being forced to go. And now he’s willing to stay? Doesn’t he believe love is a figment of the imagination? Did that fucking change? Did we see that change? Was it in one of the texts I couldn’t read?
I’m not…angry at this show. I mean Mut is never gonna be my favorite and neither is Rak, but MAME has had far worse cough cough PrapaiSky cough cough This show’s problem is actually the worst problem a show can have: it’s boring. I’m bored. The writing is lazy, the directing is abysmal, and honestly the sound mixing thinks it’s doing something and utterly failing. Those are the only three things I feel I’m knowledgeable enough to comment on but I’m sure the rest isn’t great either. I’m upset that I can’t even be mad at the characters. Cause it’s all so boring. When did I go back in time to get a BL that was so poorly written as to be a joke? It’s 2024. I refuse to believe this is what they put together. For all its faults, LITA was at least entertaining. At least it didn’t ruin my lovely day. I am gonna go get ready for bed now because unfortunately, I have to work in the morning. Oh to have a summer off. Oh to go to the sea and stargaze at the beach. I can’t believe this show managed to make even that boring.
A Shocking Twist pt 2
Previous
Summary: after her father, who was supposed to have died when she was a child, reappears suddenly one day, Arella looks to uncover the truth of the matter.
A/N: not me actually following through with a part two and finishing a fic… even though it’s been months since I posted part one…
・・・〆・・・
That night Arella dreams of the last day she saw her father alive.
“But you work so hard- are you absolutely sure you don’t want to just spend the day at home, Trevor?” Arella’s mother asks as she watches her husband prepare to leave for the park with their two small children.
“Of course,” Trevor smiles brightly as he helps Arella tie her shoes while his youngest sits on his lap, “I spend all day outside building houses and even more time inside planning the layouts. That leaves me almost no time to spend with the kids. Taking them out to the park would do all three of us some good, I think. You know how restless they get.”
“Still, Miles has just barely begun to walk- a playground will do him no good.” Arella’s mother sighs. “But I suppose I’ll never convince you otherwise.”
“Bingo!” His smiles beams, “You know me so well.”
“Stubborn as an ass, you are.” She chuckles while shaking her head, grabbing two small jackets from the coat rack. “Arella, come here please.”
“Yes Mummy?” She looks up at her mother.
“You behave for your father. When he says its time to come home, I don’t want to hear that you’ve thrown another fit.” Her mother warns as she slips the coat on the five-year-old. “If I do, you’ll have no dessert. Am I understood?”
“Yes.”
“That’s my girl.” her mother smiles as she kisses her forehead.
Ready, Relly?” Trevor asks as his daughter cheers and heads for the car.
“It’s supposed to storm later so be careful, Dear.” Arella’s mother calls out to the trio. “I love you. Be safe.”
Trevor only gives a wave before he loads the children in the car and pulls off.
・・・〆・・・
“Daddy, why didn’t you tell Mummy you loved her back?” Arella asks as her father pushes her and her brother on the swings.
“Well, I- I- uhh …” Trevor flounders for a moment, “I always tell her I love her all the time, so I figure she doesn’t always need to hear it to know it.”
“But you always to tell me you love me back every time I say it to you.” She stares at him with curious green eyes not buying her father’s excuse.
“Well I’ve known your Mummy for a super long time and I’ve told her I love her thousands of times. I promise she doesn’t need to hear it to know it, Poppet.” Arella’s father stops the swings as he spots an acquaintance of his- and the real reason he’d brought the kids out to the park- out of the corner of his eye. “Here, why don’t you two go play on the jungle gym? Daddy has some business to take care of really quick.
The five-year-blinks as she hops down from the swing and takes her brother by the hand, leading him off to the playscape.
Her curiosity gets the better of her though as the two adults talk. Leaving Miles alone, Arella sneaks over to eavesdrop on their conversation.
“You have the perfect life, Trevor.” The stranger says in a hushed whisper. “A booming architecture business, property worth millions, a beautiful wife and two wonderful children- I can’t understand why you’d want to leave it all behind by doing something so drastic.”
Why does that voice sound so familiar?
“Because it’s not me, Solomon.” Trevor frowns, “This life, it’s not what I want- I’m not happy and forcing myself to live in the closet just to protect my reputation is only making me more miserable the longer it goes on.”
“But don’t you think a divorce and moving out of the country would be far easier than faking your own death? At least then you’d be able to remain a part of your children’s lives.”
“Esther would get everything in the divorce, mate; my money, the kids- everything. And if she ever found out I was in a relationship with my business partner? She’d drag both our names through the mud- demonize me to my own children. Things are just better if they think I’m dead.”
“If you’re really sure, then.” Solomon hands Trevor three necklaces. “Those necklaces will protect you and the children from any injuries sustained in the crash. Yours is also enchanted with a teleportation charm. After you’ve called emergency services for your children, rub your thumb over the pendant and you’ll be transported to anywhere you want to go.”
“Thank you, my friend. You’ve done me a great charity.”
“For your sake,” Solomon frowns, “I hope it all works out.”
Arella’s dream fades away as she wakes with a start. She looks over at the nightstand beside her bed where the business card resides and takes it along with her DDD.
Her father has some real explaining to do but first, she needs to get a hold of that sneaky sorcerer.
・・・〆・・・
“Mark my words, Solomon, I’m going to find a way to kill you.” Those are the words Arella chooses to greet her former teacher with when he picks up his phone.
“And a good morning to you as well, Arella.” the silver-haired immortal chuckles nervously, “What- if I may inquire- did I do?”
“Why did you help my father fake his death?”
“I’m… sorry?” Solomon quirks a brow, “Who are we talking about?”
“My father…” the human lets out a frustrated sigh, “Trevor Thompson. Really tall guy, tan skin, green eyes, black hair, freckles all over his face. He was a prominent architect and contractor here in England in the late 90’s/early 2000’s. You gave him three necklaces on the day he decided to crash his car dead on into a tree going 180 kilometers per hour. Does any of that ring a bell?”
“That’s… oddly specific- how do you know all that?” He’s a little off put as it all starts to come back to him.
“Not important right now. You could have told me that he’s been alive this entire time…”
“Arella, I didn’t even know that was your father.” Solomon chuckles as he takes a sip of his tea. “I mean I’ve never once seen a picture of your family so how could I have put two and two together? Anyway, how did you come to find out he was alive?”
“He just waltzed in the front door like he owns the bloody place- like he didn’t just abandon his wife and children for his own comfort. How am I meant to react to something like that?”
“I wonder how indeed. Perhaps this is something the two of you should hash out on your own- I really have no business-”
“You helped him fake his death so now it is your business. Look, I’m going to meet him for lunch today and I want you there to play mediator in case things get too out of hand- for all that you are, you’ve always helped me keep a level head in situations like this.”
“Surely, your husband would be better suited to something like this or Thirteen even.”
“We’re talking about the same demon and reaper, right?” Arella deadpans. “As much as I love them, Mammon, Thirteen and I all feed off each other’s emotions. If I’m upset, they’ll be just as bad and that will get us nowhere.”
“Yeah,” Solomon sighs, “now that I think more about it maybe they’re not the best people to turn to for something like this… Unfortunately, I have prior commitments today. Do keep me updated though...”
“I see… well, I’ll just go it alone and hope for the best. Thanks, Solomon...” Arella hangs up as Azalea pops her head into the kitchen.
“You goin’ somewhere?” The half-demon asks having heard only the last bit of her mother’s phone conversation.
“I’m having at meeting with your grandfather for lunch if you’d like to join us.”
“Actually, I’d just come to tell you I’d be out for lunch. I met this pretty little witch in town yesterday when I was out, and we agreed to meet for lunch- good luck though.”
“Good for you.” Arella smiles, “Be safe while you’re gone and don’t stay out too late.”
“I will,” Azalea calls out as she heads back up the stairs.
・・・〆・・・
The phone rings and rings before Arella’s father picks up.
He answers with a quick hello- the tell-tale sign that he was knee deep in floor plans.
“You know, for a man who seemed so anxious to talk to me yesterday, you’d think you’d be quicker to pick up your phone.”
“Arella!” Trevor’s voice is surprised. “I- sorry. I didn’t expect you to actually call…”
“Well, I did.” Arella huffs, “You wanted to talk, so we’re meeting at Sandwitches Cafe at noon. This will be your only opportunity to speak with me, so I’d best not blow it if I were you.”
She hangs up without so much as waiting for a response from her father and sets her phone down.
The kettle is whistling on the stove next to her, so she pulls it off and fixes herself a cup of tea.
“Three hours to go.”
・・・〆・・・
The tension is thick in the air as pair sit down to lunch. It doesn’t take long for a waitress to take their order.
“Why did you fake your death?” Arella frowns once the waitress takes her leave.
And Trevor looks like a deer in headlights. Where does he even begin to start with all this?
“I’m sure you must feel very hurt by the revelation that I’m still alive…” he begins clearing his throat. “But there’s a lot that you don’t know.”
“You’re right…” her voice is cold, “so why don’t you enlighten me.” A tension descends over the whole table as Arella rests her chin on her hands. “Well, go on. I’m waiting.”
“It’s…” Trevor looks around the table nervously, almost as if he were afraid revealing his true motives for faking his death might cause the world to explode. “I left because I was afraid of what would happen if I came out. Back then… being gay wasn’t as readily accepted as it is today. Relly, I was miserable in my marriage to your mother and forcing myself to live inauthentically was not helping. After faking my death and moving away to the states with my now-husband, I was the happiest version of myself I’d ever been.”
“So you ran away instead? Like a selfish coward?” Arella frowns. “You know, I’ve always held onto the notion that my father was one of the bravest, caring, most selfless men I had ever known. That was what I’d always told Myles when he asked about what you were like. Guess I was dead wrong.”
“You were,” the black-haired man frowns. “I’ve never been this amazing, outstanding man you thought I was. I am a coward. I was terrified of losing my business, my reputation, you and your brother, so I thought if I just faked my death, nothing would be ruined, and I could find a way to reconnect with you two when you were adults and able to understand better.”
Arella doesn’t say anything back, letting her gaze drop to the table as she contemplates her next thoughts. She doesn’t even acknowledge when the waitress sets her food down in front of her.
“Well, this is unfortunate…” she sighs eventually, green eyes meeting her father’s once more. “Because that’s just what happened. Your death ruined our family. It sent Mum spiraling further into her depression. She became an abusive drunk. She singled me out and Myles became her favorite. Do you know how much she made me hate myself? How much she made me wish it was me and not you?”
“I-”
“I’m not done.” The black-haired woman spits, “She would throw me down the stairs, beat me with ladles, starve me. One time she even bought a cigar and lit it just so she could put it out on my arms while I was tied down to the table. Hell, I almost died from anaphylactic shock more times that I can count. And do you know the reason she did all that?”
Wordlessly, Trevor shakes his head.
“She wanted me to suffer for ‘taking you away.’ Your mother is the only reason I’m still alive today- the only reason I’m here to tell you all of this!”
As she finishes unloading on her father, Arella fists her hands in the tablecloth trying to control the wrath that’s festering up within her soul at the moment. She knows she needs to calm down if the vibration of the phone in her pocket and the burning of the pact mark she shares with Satan is anything to go off.
“I am so sorry all of that happened to you.” There’s genuine sorrow that drenches Trevors voice, horrified at all the struggles his only daughter has had to face in the wake of his departure from her life.
For the first time since formulating his plan to fake his death, the black-haired man regrets what he’s done. If he’d known that his wife would have gone off the deep end like that, he would have taken his children with him in a heartbeat.
“I can’t even begin to tell you how sorry I am. I know that I could never begin to make up for what you had to go through but please, allow me to try by being a part of your life now.”
“I’m sorry too…” the black-haired woman frowns deeply, “but I can’t do that. It could take you a thousand lifetimes of you trying to atone for this and you’d never be able to do it.”
Arella rises from the table, her meal forgotten as she shoulders her purse.
“Go back to your family in America and forget about me, Trevor, because I’m not your daughter anymore.”
She leaves him sitting there at the restaurant.
・・・〆・・・
“So that’s what was going on.” Satan says in relief as Arella explained about the meeting with her father. He’d dropped in on the human out of concern after she failed to answer his calls in a timely manner. “I’ll say, when Mammon had mentioned your father had reappeared suddenly the other day, I’d have never guessed he’d draw this type of anger out of you…”
“What could you expect though?” Arella asks with an exhausted sigh. “Here I was thinking my father was this virtuous, wonderful person and it turns out that he’s the complete opposite. You’d rage too, wouldn’t you?” She fixes them two cups of tea.
“Mmm… I’d be irritated for sure, but I don’t think I’d rage over something like that… at least not any more.” the blonde hums as he leans against the kitchen counter. “How do you feel about it now?”
“Better.” She smiles, “Like I’ve let go of something that’s been weighing me down for nearly my entire life.”
Arella hands Satan his teacup as he hums in approval. They chat for a while more, catching up on the goings-on of life.
・・・〆・・・
